News Liste House Flipper 2
We’ve noticed that lately quite a few myths have been popping up about how we operate, what we’re working on, and sometimes even who we’re working with! Today, we want to take you behind the scenes and show you how House Flipper 2 and the other titles we’re involved in actually come to life.
First of all, let’s talk about what Frozen District really is:
Before anyone had even started thinking about House Flipper, there was just a small handful of us, and we were called Empyrean. You might recognize that name - it still pops up here and there from time to time. Then, for purely legal-accounting boring reasons, Empyrean just wasn’t enough, and that’s how Frozen District was born!
If we skip the formalities, though, it’s pretty simple: Empyrean and Frozen District are the same people, working in the same place, doing the exact same thing - developing games!
To make things a little more confusing, at one point, a group of ambitious folks from Frozen District created a parallel studio called Frozen Way.
They helped us create some of the content for House Flipper and began working on their own projects. They’re the team behind the latest HF1 DLCs (Pets, Farm, and Dine Out), as well as the upcoming HF Remaster. This allowed Frozen District to focus on House Flipper 2, while our original game still gets to receive the work, support, and updates its fans deserve.
They’re also helping us with the animals in the upcoming Pets DLC for HF2!
Fast forward to the present day, Frozen District has grown a bit, and as a game studio grows, so do the processes.
There are now almost 60 of us, compared to the original crew of about 10 who worked on HF1!
We went from working in one room, shouting ideas over each other, to learning how to collaborate in a much bigger team, spread across multiple rooms. It hasn’t always been easy, but we think we’ve managed to find a sweet spot between growing the team and not turning into a full-blown corporate machine.
We are very lucky to have talented teams of artists, designers, programmers, and more; their passion and desire to experiment is what led to the creation of House Flipper all those years ago. That desire still gets to live on and thrive through new ideas, new experiments, and, of course, we are in the lucky position that we are able to continue to test new waters.
This has led to titles such as Forgery Craft and Heart Flipper - in the hope that one day we might create something on the scale of HF1 again. These projects also give us tons of pure fun - and at the end of the day, that’s still the most important thing for us when it comes to making games!
Does this mean that the work stops on House Flipper 2 to make way for these side projects?
Not at all!
For those of you who like numbers, around 80% of the entire Frozen District team is currently working on House Flipper 2. That’s nearly 50 people! They’re the ones building new content updates and DLCs, implementing your suggestions from canny.io, and so much more.
Thanks to their work, every detail in HF2 is carefully crafted - dialogues, stories, missions, items, narrative, mechanics, you name it. When we think about how we started HF1 using ready-made assets, and compare it to where we are now - where every single element is created by ourselves - we’ve come a long way.
And in the end, a significant portion of this success is thanks to the supportive House Flipper community.
