Windjammers 2
01.03.21 17:00 Community Announcements
Greetings Jammers,

Windjammers community is like a big international family that welcomes anybody feeling the need to jam the wind, learn basics, all mechanics, and tricks to become a true champion.

Today we'd like to introduce you to Jack also known as Vashbell, a beach stage aficionados.

Q: Can you introduce yourself in a few words?

V: I'm Vashbell. Or Jack. Whichever is easier. I like long walks on beach. Just the stage.

Q: When was the first time you played Windjammers and with who?

V: I actually discovered Windjammers for the first time somewhere in 2016 with a couple of friends in a discord (shout outs to DNOpls and Nktakumi, both whom are still amazing players). They introduced me to it and I saw the appeal immediately upon playing.

Q: What was your first reaction?

V: I adored the simplicity and instant gratification with the game. I was losing hard, but I still enjoyed it. Any time I scored a point, it filled me with joy. =

Q: How did you react when you heard that WJ2 was in development?

V: I was taken completely off guard. A game from the 90s that I hadn't heard of until 2016 was getting a sequel? My friends and I were super excited for it.

Q: Do you think Windjammers is a competitive game? If yes, why?

V: It's about reactions. It's about being a step ahead. It's about execution. It's about control. It has all the elements that are needed for a competitive game with a perfect mix of simplicity and complexity.

Q: How's your relationship with the Windjammers community?

V: I'm still fairly involved with the Windjammers community. I still play in any online tournaments these days and I try to get in practice whenever I can with the Windjammers discord members. I'm glad to be as close as I am with them. It's genuinely the best community I've ever been a part of.

Q: What type of WJ player are you? Mostly defensive-based, attacking-based, and/or all-round player?

V: I try to switch to what I think is best for the current situation. If my opponent is playing close to the goal, I try to be more aggro. If they're too close to the net, I'll try to get closer to my goal and lob it to make them retreat. It all depends on what situation I'm in.

Q: What are the key requirements to win a match when you're playing on the competitive scene of Windjammers?

V: You have to keep up with your opponent mentally and consider what position you should be in for the next possible move.

Q: Any advice for players who discover Windjammers for the first time?

V: To any newcomers, join community discords that involve Windjammers to get some friends and get some practice. You can learn a lot of helpful skills and techniques just from playing Windjammers that can translate to Windjammers 2. Also, PRACTICE YOUR CURVES! But the most important thing I can tell you is to have fun.

Q: Would you like to see Windjammers 2 on the biggest international competitive scene? If yes, why?

V: Absolutely. I want other people to see this game and enjoy it. That kind of exposure will bring in more people, and expanding the player base. That's what I want.

Q: What are your favorite characters and courts?

V: I have devoted myself to playing Gary Scott. When I first saw the Windjammers character roster, I looked at the bottom left and saw the cool buff American and said "Yeah, this is my character." As for my favorite stage, I say beach. Yeah, I get hated for it, but it's nice and compact. It gives me shorter distances to get to the disc before it goes past me. When I have to pull a hail mary, I pick a bumper stage, my favorite being concrete.

Q: Which former WJ character would you like to see in WJ2?

V: B. Yoo. Yeah, I know he's just Steve Miller's clone, but that doesn't make him any less cool.

Q: Do you think that Windjammers 2 is easy to learn? If yes, why?

V: With the new mechanics, yeah, it is harder than the original, but it's still easy to learn in my opinion. You can get pretty far with the same tactics from Windjammers 1. Easy to learn, but hard to master. The new mechanics add a lot of depth.

Q: Anything else to say to the Windjammer Community? (veterans and/or newcomers)

V: To the newcomers, I hope to see you guys as we all play and enjoy Windjammers 2 when it is released. As for the veterans, you all better watch out, because I'm aiming for the top!
