Also Fazit, Spielpass genial

After almost a decade a patch for modern operating systems, GG devs.
One of the most awesome RTS games ever made, just like the sequel High Treason.
Played the shit out of it, before it was on steam (you know, in the ancient times, where you bought games in real stores, in real boxes, was awesome)
With the updated .exe for Win7 and newer there is no excuse for not buying it.
Get it, now. And also grab the upcoming game Act of Aggression. 10 years later and finally a new installation of this series. What do you want more?

10/10, 'nuff said.

A fun little RTS with FMV cutscenes from the 2000s, but a little buggy on my Win 10 machine. Nothing major though: in game superweapon cutscenes didn't play out in the story missions, and if it's not going fullscreen disable your other monitors. It also locks up on exit most of the time; just force close it via task manager instead of trying.

Unfortunately you never play as the bad guys unless you do skirmish, but definitely worth $3.

Remember when developers tried to make entertaining games?

A surprisingly good RTS game that has aged very well.

Definitely worth the price of admission, even the badly acted FMV cut scenes are great, it's nice to have a story for a change as opposed to AI scripting and multiplayer.

i played this game when it was released and it's still awesome. This game was the first to bring back live action cutscene and it was good. Back in the day CG simply cannot replace real human actors. Another thing this game does particuarly well is the modelling of buildings and structures. Maps are just filled with beautiful and detailed structures, and they all can be occupied and turned into strongholds for your troops, troops can even enter a building through the roof top by helicopters. Another novel feature is that the enemy soldiers can be wounded, captured and imprisoned to generate resources.
Overall, for this low price, it's a must have for RTS gamers.

This is a good game at heart but trying to get it to run on modern hardware in the current year is a complete nightmare. Having played it, or attempted to, on multiple systems now it seems almost random whether it'll decide to run or not. It almost pains me to say it because when this game's running it's something of a hidden gem amongst RTS games, but it's hard to justify the crapshoot of whether it'll decide to work or not, so you're probably better off saving your money.

A superb, well detailed RTS where a varied army composition is needed and diverse strategies are key to victory as combat can end quickly and brutally. Gameplay is a great mix of casual and hardcore RTS with the usual base building and unit deployment except resources aren't found in deposits instead are earned either from POW's or finite oil fields/banks/ammo bunkers. Buildings also utilize realistic gameplay so you'll have to MedEvac injured troops to field hospitals or ferry a heavily damaged vehicle to a repair depot. Lastly buildings can be garrisoned on different levels when the building provides like on the roof or other visible floors to defend from not just within the structure. Infantry units can depending on the unit type go prone stance for camouflage and gain additional cover at the cost of speed as well as storm a garrisoned building with varying levels of success depending on unit type. Sometimes your units or the enemy's forces have a chance to survive a battle due to either heavy injuries or are part of a surviving vehicle crew unless captured, repatriate or healed they will eventually bleed to death or stay put for the enemy's gain. Killing POW's is useless unless to prevent them from exposing your stealth units so your better off getting them for more money. Vehicles like infantry aren't all around powerful units so you can't zerg in this RTS thankfully. Aircraft are treated as off-map support with varying aircraft for different sortie missions but all can be shot down if not properly deployed or if the Air Control Tower gets destroyed. WMD's are in-game too but whats unique as well is counter WMD defensive teach to prevent such disaster. As your units gain veterancy they will become generally more effective and even heal/repair when idle so its best to keep your army well supported in the long term. Each faction is unique with their own tech trees, abilities, strengths and weaknesses. The US Armed Forces has specialized firepower but needs electricity and descend their DEFCON alert level to access and maintain new tech. Task Force Talon is all about speed and flexability not needing electricity for a direct tech tree but doesn't have the punch of the other two factions. The Consortium lastly requires you to use all of your units to get the best out of them. The story and characters are set in a well made semi-futuristic Military Sci-Fi theme with an interesting cast and a simple but effective plot that's better, more interesting then most RTS stories especially if your a fan of Tom Clancy's style writing though the main antagonist doesn't have the same impact as say Kane of Nod is like. Cutscenes are made using a combination of real actors and CGI giving a nice cinematic feel for each missions all in a more realistic, gritty, serious take on the genre that's more engaging and enjoyable then just a simple briefing. Missions have great variety that makes you utilize different strategic skills without being unfair with great AI as you increase the difficulty. Multiplayer is available as well with optional AI enemies or allies in good number of maps and nice number of game modes though its not functional online as its GameSpy so you'll need 3rd party software like Hamachi or Game Ranger to do so. Graphics are dated and some animations too but it still has great detail with unit interactions, building functions, battlefield scarring and no unit limit help make it still impressive. Audio is passable with mostly similar unit dialogue and the soundtrack is good but limited. In summery a well made RTS despite its age for those wanting to find that niche for an in between casual and hardcore experience and more depth then to simply zerg.

Love this game. A good old RTS game. Played it a long time ago when I got it for free with some gaming magazine, but lost it later. It made me so happy when I rediscovered it on steam and for only 3EUR on discount. Got it immediatelly and I install it once in a while to relax. I just now found out that there was a sequel and it's only around 2USD in the country I live in now, so I'm getting that too :D
+Set in the present with good looking battlefields including cities and deserts (even going over trees and making them fall...)
+Easy controls, keyboard shortcuts, buttons to locate your available builders and more
+Graphics are a bit old, but it already looks okay and I'm happy enough with them
+Pretty good campaign with cinematics
+Civilian banks, which allow you to get extra cash while having to defend them is a great idea. I'd love that in all RTS games
-The unit AI is a little dumb sometimes. For example when they move, they can get stuck on each other just on the way anywhere. That can be pretty crucial and thus annoying sometimes.
-Not enough maps in skirmish

Act of War is well made, surprised I've never heard of it. This RTS has a compelling flow within the game and the objectives that pop up keep you on your toes. Resource management is slightly different from the earliest RTS like C&C where you have to gather minerals. In Act of War capturing enemy soldiers seems to provide resources ( thus far ). Sometimes being in the midst of captures lead to some sticky situations.

Gameplay wise, a nice mix of units that require some finesse in the army's composition or prepare to suffer heavy casualties. In Hard mode, there are also intermittent spawns by the enemy AI away from the actual main objectives. The battlefield layout itself is very dynamic and you can even land troops on top of buildings using certain Coppers. They even have medevac to base for critically injured. Discovering more and more nice touches of this sort.

My current gripe is the default method of unit selection and movement for fast paced battle is not intuitive. I had to customize it. My overall take is, for us RTS fans that don't get many RTS publishers or games these days, Act Of War is definitely worth a look. Having fun playing it and it's compelling enough that i want to know what happens next.
