Der langersehnte Nachfolger des hochgefeierten Spiels - Act of War: Direct Action macht dort weiter, wo der Techno-Thriller aufhörte. Am Abend der U.S. Präsidentschaftswahlen greifen gleichzeitig mehrere Terroristen beide Kandidaten an. Hinweise deuten auf eine Verwicklung korrupter Elemente des U.S. Militärs in die Anschläge, jedoch führt die Spur auch zu einer schattenhaften Organisation bekannt als das Konsortium.
Sie übernehmen die Rolle des U.S. Army Brigade Generals Jason Richter, Karrieresoldat und ehemaliger Kommandant der 1. Spezialeinheit (Delta Force), der die Verantwortung über eine neue Elite-Anti-Terroreinheit übernommen hat: Task Force TALON. Von massiven feindlichen Angriffen bis hin zu delikaten Geiselbefreiungen, von geheimen Spionageaktionen bis hin zu gezielten Spezialangriffen steht die 'Task Force TALON' bereit den Feind in Schach zu halten und um die ganze Welt zu verfolgen. Soooooo schade. Ich hatte einige Stunden großen Spaß mit dem Titel. Aber seit einigen Tagen ruckelt das Spiel derbe. Manchen dürften die Probleme mit der Maus wohl bekannt sein und denen die es noch nicht wissen, möchte ich sagen, bitte lasst die Finger von der Fassung. Sobald man die Maus bewegt stockt das Spiel. Mittlerweile sogar im Menü. Hab verschiedene Methoden versucht. Finde den Fehler leider nicht. Es wäre schön wenn jemand ne Lösung hätte. Ich mag das Spiel eigentlich sehr. Würde mich freuen wenn es wieder läuft. Umtausch geht leider nicht mehr auf Grund der Spielzeit. Wäre es am Anfang aufgetreten, hätte ich es gleich zurück gegeben. Leider muss ich somit einen Daumen runter geben. Ansonsten ein super Spiel. Aktualisierung: Heute Morgen lief es wieder perfekt. Stand: 31.01.2020

Das Addon zu Act of War Direct Action ist auch ein Sehr guter Titel geworden, leider wurde hierbei auf das Echtzeit senario verzichtet genau wie auf die Deutsche Audio Ausgabe Schade dafür

Aber trotzdem Gut gelungen

Back in the day, it wasn't unusual for expansions to RTS games to increase the difficulty of their solo campaign so I wasn't completely shocked when High Treason started kicking my ass from the start. It took me a while to realize why, however. The AI for friendly units is completely borked. Without direct instructions units seem, as often as not, to become entirely passive. Indeed this sometimes happens to the enemy AI, as well. I've seen countless instances where the two were simply standing next to each, motionless. Mostly, its your units that suffer from this mindless behavior, however, guaranteeing that they get slaughtered unless you've forced them to target an enemy. It's so bad I'm guessing its due to an interaction with either Windows 10 or the multiple cores of my CPU. None of the reviews from when the game was released mention anything about it.
Whatever the cause, High Treason is pretty hard to recommend in 2022. Too bad, because Direct Action is terrific. Buy that one instead.

This is a very underrated series. However this game is broke. unplayable game lag when mouse is moved. Game should no longer be sold until its fixed.

Awesome game
if you love command and conquer then youll love this

For some reason load times started to get longer and longer after 4th mission. There is a bug that causes sounds to loop endlessly(Even in the main menu) and afterwards CTD.After encountering those bugs,on the sea warfare mission naval units don't move.You can't protect your main units because of that. Passed those missions and got incredibly unstable and can CTD for just loading a saved game and lose sound completely. For those reasons I don't suggest buying it. I couldn't even finish it because of how unstable it is.

This game is actually so amazing if you used to play generals zero hour :D mod the shit outta this bois worth the money i would pay more tbh

EDIT: I want people to play this game so badly the first ten people who comments add me as a friend on steam send me a message letting me know why you added me and i will personally buy those ten people the game so they may play at their leisure!

A great expansion pack giving not just a new campaign but also several new units for each faction, actual modern naval combat simulation and a couple of fun new multiplayer modes with great quality of life fixes and modern screen resolution support. The campaign while being more interesting both story wise and mission variety wise is brutally difficult and unfair. More then once are you not given access to defensive turrets or even a field hospital/Intel Center/POW camp earn money as your forced to get from oil fields/banks/ammo bunkers as the AI even on Standard difficulty wants to completely annihilate you with constant, costly attacks in ridiculous odds. Cutscenes are no longer live action but entirely CGI which is alright they're still well made. Naval combat is amazing with a nice selection of ship types including a submarine each and ships with their own aircraft as well as amphibious assault teams. Though despite such an amazing new gameplay mechanic Naval combat isn't supported for AI skirmish mode sadly like a couple of other gametypes. The new units help make factions each better equipped but also more specialized with the new Mercenaries to help fill in the gap provided you have the money. A bit better graphics and modern screen resolution help a good deal for this aging game plus there's more unique dialogue for each unit now which is great. In summery a great expansion pack with a lot of content and much needed fixes just don't stress yourself out with the campaign mode, seriously.

If you liked C&C Generals, but:
- It doesn't work on your PC anymore
- You cba to go and get the disk / can't find it / it's so old it's scratched to s***.
- You don't want to buy it electronically on Origin
- You don't want to install Origin
- You don't want to give Origin your monies
- You don't like EA / Origin
- EA / Origin

Then buy this instead. Very similar, a few years newer, and more realistic.

+ Good graphics.
+ Challenging AI.
+ No redundant units.
+ Does not require the original Direct Action to play.

- Campaign not as good as Direct Action.
- Online multiplayer requires 3rd-party software (Hamachi or GameRanger)
- AI does not support all game modes.

The Good
We'll start with the graphics: very good considering this game came out in 2006. The stock maps just as detailed as Direct Action, but with far more variety - Aside from the usual desert and urban maps, you can now play on more forest and jungle theatres.

Infantry play a prominent role right up until the late game. Act of War focuses less on tank rushing and requires the player to think a bit more. Well placed infantry, for example, can ambush a tank convoy from trees/tall grass and gain a x2 damage bonus. Likewise, artillery could be used to clear out forests and potential ambush zones. It's nice to play an RTS where infantry are more than just cannon fodder.

There are some very interesting game mechanics here too. While oil is your main source of income, it is still a finite resource and will run dry eventually. You can take and hold banks to acquire funds, or you can even take wounded enemies as hostages for ransom.

The expansion also adds naval warfare, which actually works rather well once you get the knack for it. Each faction has it's own unique variety of ships with different play styles.

Another interesting mechanic introduced to High Treason is the addition of mercenary units. These are expensive, but very effective specialist units that excel in what they do. For example, you can hire a specialist team of medics to provide a heal radius around wounded infantry - or call in the Rawhide artillery team and level an enemy base with rockets from afar.

The Bad
The AI does not work in naval warfare, which means you're up against humans whether you like it or not. Only a minor complaint, but sometimes it's nice to practice against the AI and hone your skills.

The campaign is brutally hard compared to Direct Action. Some veteran players might be okay with the tougher AI, but I personally struggled. Also the lack of live-action cut-scenes was also a disappointment.

The Ugly
Compatibility issues lie with Windows Vista, Win7 and Win8. There is a Win7 compatibility patch on ModDB which works perfectly - you can get it here

Final Thoughts
Despite the initial compatibility issues, this game has proven to be a very underrated RTS. It's what C&C Generals should have been.

VERDICT: Highly recommended.
