Beat Hazard hat mich von Anfang an beeindruckt aufgrund seiner visuellen Effekte.
Mit der entsprechenden Musik kommt man sich manschmal vor als ob man auf dem Dancefloor einer Discothek ein Shoot'em Up Game spielt.

Good things:

This game is a great shoot ‘em up and I never would have think that listening to my favorite music and bands would be so great when combined with all the gameplay. And yes there are tracks that come with the game for you to play but it is even better that the game allows you to upload any music you like. That way I was able to listen to my favorite bands while they tried to murder me in game!

It is also important that there are many perks you can buy and upgrade in game and you can choose which ones you want to start with so you can decide when you need more points and what perks will help with that and when you need more killing power and when you just need more lives.

I also loved that there is also an option to just play many tracks back to back during boss rush mode while trying to survive as long as you can while new boss spawns or the chill out mode where you can just play more slowly to just take your mind off things. There are also many difficulties you can put to change how many enemies will spawn on each track.

Bad things:

There's is a photosensitive seizure warning included at the start of the game and I never saw a game that the warning was really more true than this game. With all the bright flashing colors and neons and explosions this game should display this warning 10 times before letting you to burn your own eyes out. I had big problems to play this game without a DLC that let me put visual feedback to 50% as that was the only way for me to play the game without hurting my eyes and head.

Conclusion

A good mix of music and shoot ‘em up game that will burn your eyes out.

Do NOT get this game if you have photo-sensitivity problems. This is one of the very few games with this warning that actually means it. Even on the lowest settings, this game is brutal with flashing lights. This is the kind of game that the warnings were made for.

The sequel is much less intense on the eyes, I would 100% recommend that over this.

It used to be a lot of fun on Xbox 360. But the latest version is so flashy; there is so much light that everything looks exactly the same! It's impossible to distinguish your shots from theirs, from your ships to theirs. It's too bright, too much color, and completely ruined from what it used to be.

And what's happening on the screen doesn't seem to have any relation to the music either. I was listening to a mild remix of Raptor: Call of the Shadows, but everything moved faster than the beat was giving off.

I don't know, on one hand there is nothing wrong with it, on the other it kills eye balls and it's not very good.
Fun gameplay for a couple of minutes, more than that it's repetitive, not challenging, even boring.
Gameplay wise it's a very weak side scroller shooter.
I got to give them that the music gimmick is amazing, I hope more games had this feature, use our own music.

Beat crapzard

Beat hazard is a terrible twin-stick, rhythm, shooter which becomes boring after couple of hours. I'll keep this short.

You have a ship, only one ship, and shoot alien ships which appear on the screen while music is playing. You can choose whichever music track you like from your own music library. At first I thought the music affects the gameplay but it barely does anything. The quieter the music the less damage you do and enemies move slower and vice versa. It's not a rhythm game, you can just turn off the sound and play spotify and have the same experience. Music does nothing. Every song is the same, same enemies, appearing at similar time, there are patterns when a certain enemies appear, after playing for 10 songs you know how the level will start and how it will end, you know which waves of enemies will come now and so on. They even appear in same formations, from the same angles, like I know there will be one ship coming from that side, then two more appear above, 5 on the right, 2 from the bottom will follow. It's THAT predictable. Absolutely pointless and boring. Oh there's only one level so you repeat it again and again, combine it with scripted gameplay and...yeah...it's bad.
Oh there's survival mode. It's a bit more difficult but follows same patterns basically only with more ships or maybe they appear quicker.

Game asks you to bind buttons for your weapons and shields. Only one of four buttons work - the superbomb. Neither shield or anything else works. Probably locked behind a paywall.

Gameplay is extremely challenging (doesn't matter which song is playing, the gameplay is scripted) and the constantly flashing screen makes it even harder. You can barely see what is happening on the screen, it's just colors flashing.

The are two bosses in the game and I think 3 types of other enemies and asteroids.
You can upgrade your ship to get higher multiplier or unlock more difficult modes (I can't see how is this a ship upgrade) and other pretty pointless stuff. Ships are not customizable and there's only one to choose from.
Gameplay content is locked behind dlc, like choosing a ship, customizing your ship, downloading ships from workshop, boss rush mode. This feels like a paid demo.

Visuals are...i don't know, flashy? There's flashing in all kind of colors. Flashing to the degree when you die because you lost where you are and where the enemies are. Especially annoying when bosses shoot their beams, very hard to notice them.

Default music is terrible, some trance/dance club music or whatever crap is playing. The music you can't listen if you're not on drugs.

Overall a very boring and repetitive game where all the songs follow the same exact pattern without any variety. Music serves almost no purpose. Definitely has nothing to do with rhythm games.

A visual representation of how powerful music can be. If you have a huge music library on your computer you will get to experience all of your favorite tracks in a completely new way. I absolutely recommend Beat Hazard

What's better than plug-in the maroon 5 track into your car stereo and smash the accelerator and go for a long drive with your head stuck outta window in a moving car at 100mph, absorbing the emotions and vibrancy of the music and the background picturesque countryside into your soul, the sensation that makes you queen/king of the world for that brief pinnacle moment of the song..................Buy this twin-stick shooter music controlled game because playing just music with no screaming and no Seizures inducing glimmering lights is so old-school 20th centurish thing.

Also, My Pupil exploded puncturing my iris and my eye cornea walls and I completely lost my sight. I am blind now. Thank you Cold Beam Games. Though its quite dark in here, at least I can't see the miserable world anymore ))

How to max your enjoyment out of this game (and probability of blindness):

1) Max out your intensity
2) Play on Insane or Suicidal Difficulty
3) Play any of the Initial D soundtracks (Eurobeat)
4) Profit.

Seriously though, this game is very fun and there's a lot of options so anyone can play (you can minimize the intensity if it bothers your eyes too much). Just remember your mileage will vary based off what music you play with as with most other music games.

You can use your own music, you can change the settings on how flashy the things on screen are. There is no youtube integration, you need the music on your pc to be able to play the game basically.

It's got fun game-modes, my personal fave is 'boss rush' which is just boss rounds in which you gotta kill the bosses as fast as you possibly can.

Honestly not much to say, you like music and do you like music related games? This combines both. Listen to your fave music while shooting the hell out of enemies.

After playing a few other rhythm games with levels generated based on the music, my expectations for this game were very low. This is the first game I've seen that does it well. If you're prone to frequent seizures though, DO NOT BUY IT. There's an option to tone down the visuals, but it still might not be worth it.

One can point to ones music folders and select an album and or track.
When booting up it plays a random track it's played before.
One faces off against troops spawning to tracks beats.
I am the One... scoring points for time expired and troops slain.
I can destroy some ships listening to Power Electronics.
I could find an ally to wreck some stuff listening to Power Electronics or maybe some Speedcore.
My library has a lot of Power Electronics... And I can play that shit loud in game and go Pow! Pow! Pow pew-pew! Pow!
But i do listen to other loud and/or strange music too, some live examples bellow.

Okay, so this might work fine for some, but even with quiet music at what the game considers low intensity effects, the flashing lights actually made me feel queasy and gave me a headache – after less than a minute of playing, which is something I've never experienced before with any visual effects.

While the game concept is fine, and the way the graphics respond to the music while in the menus actually looks nice and would have made a nice mode on its own as an included visualiser on full screen (missed opportunity), I can't see tany need for the flashing lights being so intense. It would have been a far better (or, in my case, playable) game, if it hadn't been for what I consider a poor choice.

(WARNING: This game has a heavy amount of brightly coloured flashing lights. You are able to turn it down quite a bit, so do that if you are at risk for seizures)

This is one of the best shmups I've ever played. The gameplay is powered entirely by the music track you choose, from the power of your shots to the colossal swarms of enemies thrown at you.

While there are several tracks built into the game, you can import your own music library into the game and play those. There is also an option to use internet radio stations.

The game has 3 modes: the basic Single Track, which is self-explanatory; Survival Mode, where you keep playing through your library/radio station until you lose all lives, and boss rush, which is survival except with just the bosses, with a new one every 30 seconds or 5 after the screen is cleared.

Speaklng of the bosses, they are BIG. Some of them can pose a real threat, especially if you let them live until the next swarm comes along.

There are also 5 difficulty modes to choose from, with 3 at the beginning and 2 locked behind progression.

Go play this if you haven't already. Plug in your favourite song and experience music in a whole new way.

(SEIZURE WARNING AGAIN. Yes, this is so important that I'm book-ending the review with two warnings)

This is one of those games that stands the test of time. It certainly helps that Beat hazard has the best gaming soundtrack ever composed... since YOU get to choose what specific music the levels are generated for. Where I find other SHMUPS a bit dry sometimes, this one knocks it out of the park with the fast-paced action, the custom soundtrack, and the ever-increasing challenge of the maps.

This is certainly a game worth having in your library.
