You should buy this for story mode. If you want gameplay, go for BBCF - the latest installment.

a great introduction to the BlazBlue series as well as fighting games as a whole. the plot is expansive with unique storylines for each character that get tied together in the finale, as well as a condensed retelling of the first game's story so as not to alienate newcomers. the voice acting is top notch and really brings the characters and their universe to life. the gameplay is easy to learn but still provides a challenge for fighting game veterans on the harder difficulty modes. i've played later installments in the series and enjoyed them well enough, but Continuum Shift will always hold a special place in my heart for being the first traditional 2D fighter to really draw me in with its cast of likable characters and unique setting.

BlazBlue Continuum Shift Extend

A 2D Fighter mixed with a visual novel. Having played the previous one calamity trigger I thought i would give Continuum Shift a shot. Have to say that i had a blast with it. Along with a beautiful and awesome sound track this game kicks ass. It has a very long story to it and there are several different modes to play if that's your thing. The story was a bit confusing at first but after seeing all the different story arks it all come together in the end. However if you are not a visual novel fan you may not end up caring for this for most of the story is played in that way. Also the english voice over's for the game is pretty damn good too.

Blazblue story is pants on head stupid but I love it. If you don't care about the story though you should buy Central Fiction instead.

The only thing to complain about is that the controls are wack (to fix, go to controls in options, use WASD and space bar to delete second keyboard, then use the arrow keys to fix the first keyboard's controls,, I made it similar to Calamity Trigger), Relius is a bum to his family, and Hazama can rot but is hot in his gag scene. Story thickens a lot compared to the first game and the new characters are fun to play as. This is one of those series that you need to play the games in order to understand the character's goals and purposes.

BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend is an old game and frankly speaking, doesn't really compare to its later iterations - Chronophantasma Extend and Centralfiction.
While it does have a good amount of content included; in the later titles, the gameplay mechanics, roster, soundtrack and content are better in terms of quality and quantity - especially Chronophantasma Extend.
Therefore, if you're diving into the series to get acquainted with BlazBlue as (primarily) a fighting game, the later titles in the series are generally better options.

However, being a BlazBlue title, it's also very likely you may want to purchase this for its story elements.
If that's the case, Continuum Shift Extend is definitely worth the buy for its VN aspects.
It includes a retelling of the story in Calamity Trigger (the beginning in the series), so you can skip out on that one - I've had technical issues with Calamity Trigger personally so I wouldn't recommend it.

Overall, it's a good package and given it's very low price point when on offer, I do highly recommend it if you're interested in a VN game that has a compelling storyline and fighting game that has depth (and technicality).
However, if you're more interested in BlazBlue as an anime fighter, I'd suggest skipping on this one entirely and go for its later iterations - the latest being Centralfiction which has the largest roster size and newest mechanics.

Tl;dr Get it if you want to read the story of BlazBlue, get CF if you want to play the fighting game.
I would recommend this game for people that want to get into the story of blazblue. With the Extend edition having a recap/retelling of the true ending of Calamity trigger it will allow you to get most of that games story while also having it's own story in close to the same style as Calamity trigger.
When it comes to the fighting game itself there is little reason to buy this over Central Fiction, the online player base is also pretty much dead.

The fact that Calamity Trigger Reconstruction is in the story mode is another very good reason to skip Calamity Trigger as a game and just start here.

This game will probably get overlooked considering it's at first glance a less content filled version of BBCF.

However this game feels like it's far closer to Guilty Gear in terms of how it plays. There are no overdrives which means no exceed accels. Ragna has Blood Kain which works exactly like Dragon Install but with a constant health drain that's counteracted by increased health regen on D attacks. Combo's are also far longer and far more flexible compared to BBCF which is nice because it means you can be far more creative in how to construct them.

Character interactions are more prominent and look way cooler with the english dubbing actually being of incredibly high quality. Patrick Seitz and Erik Davies do a spectacular job as Ragna and Hazama respectively. So much so that I honestly prefer their voices to the japanese takes.

It lacks a lot of characters that feature in later titles but in some way it feels like it somewhat benefits from it. The characters here all play incredibly well and don't feel like their left out of the story or are inconsequential. The music is also superior to later games but that's somewhat meaningless since you can unlock the tracks in this game for use in the later titles anyway. (Old Nightmare Fiction and Endless Despair are infinitely better than their remakes don't even try to argue with me on this.)

Overall it's really damn good and cheap as all hell on sale. While I personally prefer BBCF since it plays less like Guilty Gear and feels more distinct. (After all if I want to play Guilty Gear then I'll boot up Xrd.) This game is still really damn good. Give it a try I guess. It's like $3. You're not really losing anything to be honest.

Well, here it is. The second chapter in the Blaz Blue series.

+ Decent net code.
+ Enjoyable story mode, with endearing characters, and well written dialogue.
+ Fairly balanced, even the low tier characters can be viable if you understand the gameplay mechanics.
+ Abyss and Unlimited Mars modes are both fun for casual and hardcore play, if you're looking for some single player action outside of Arcade and Story mode.
+ Lots of content.

- Price tag. I can see why people who already own this game wouldn't pick it up for $25 - $30.
- Unlimited Mu-12 is a cheap bitch.
- Watered down acheivements. Seriously, where's all the character specific acheivements at?

If you haven't played this game yet and enjoy a good fighting game, a dungeon crawling experience masked in a fighting game, or some good old fashioned visual novel storytelling, than do yourself a favor and pick this up.

Pretty good port, netcode is much better than USF4.

Its not BBCP, but its a start of getting more games here on steam (looking at you GGXRD).

Would recommend if you're into fighting games.
