leider eins der schwächeren BS. Steuerung, Grafik und Storylinie ist irgendwie total vermurkst. Kein vergleich zu den anderen Teilen. Ich hoffe das 5er wird mir wieder Spaß machen.

Nach den ersten drei Teilen ist dieser Teil grafisch ja mal eine wirkliche Katastrophe. Rätsel sind gelungen und die Geschichte ist jetzt auch nicht ganz so schlimm. Aber der 3D Sprung ist diesem Spiel echt nicht gelungen. Gut, dass das Entwicklerstudio im fünften Teil wieder die Kurve gekriegt hat. Von diesem Teil kann man aber ruhig die Finger lassen.

Finde die Kritik gegenüber des Spieles nicht gerecht, es ist vielleicht nicht so angenehm teilweise zu Spielen durch den Kamerawinkel und die Rätsel sind teilweise sehr knifflig, wo man schon mal gut über weite Ecken dese Spieles nachdenken muss. Alles in allem war ich jedoch Positiv überrascht in anbetracht der Bewertung mit diesem Teil. Habe den 5 allerdings schon durch und freue mich nun auf den kommenden 6 Teil. :)

Wie schon bei den Vorgängern eine gute Geschichte. Gutes Point & Click Adventure mit Humor und guten Rätseln. Die Steuerung ist hier und da etwas merkwürdig und gewöhnungsbedürftig... und das Ende ist sehr abrupt und kurz... eher unbefriedigend.

Insgesamt aber immer noch solide.

Nach ettlichen abstürzen und ganzen sequenzen ohne Sprachausgabe und von der bescheidenen Steuerung
gar nicht zu sprechen......ein entschiedenes NEIN...... Spiele sollen Spaß machen und nicht nerven !!!!!!

This game is an utter abomination as Broken Sword game.

When compared to the originals it:

* lacks the atmosphere
* lacks the humour
* has truly awful voice acting
* IS. JUST. PLAIN. BORING.

the developers obviously were trying for a more serious and a more realistic looking game, but in doing so they sucked the life and soul out of what makes Broken Sword what it is.

It was so bad I couldn't even finish the game, truly a disappointing effort.

3/10 and that's been kind.

Game gives black screen after pressing ALT+TAB.
Go to Task Manager -> End Task, game still open in background.
Restart PC -> game prevents restart.
Still restart -> game still prevents restart to the point where I have to hold the power button.
Restart PC -> open game -> progress lost.

Controls are atrocious and almost make the game unplayable. This time we can use the mouse, but it winds up being a nuisance at times because you have to keep clicking over and over to keep characters moving. I'm hoping the fifth game improves on this. The 3D graphics don't suit this game either. Bring back the candy-colored cartoon graphics we know and love from the first two games!

This game doesn't have the split second reflex tasks that constantly killed you and made BS3 so awful. However, it DOES have a series of stupid hacking puzzles that make zero sense when explained to George, but are reasonably easy to get past. UNTIL the developers decide to throw in a timed hacking puzzle that is probably the biggest complaint about this game. You are supposed to find a double sided mirror piece and it looks identical to the rest of the pieces. The game-makers don't seem to grasp the balance between challenging puzzles and puzzles that make people abandon the game for good.

Voice acting was great as usual EXCEPT for Anna-Maria. She was awful and I think may have been the same actress who played Gina in the Runaway games. She was terrible in that and she doesn't disappoint in this either. We are on the fourth actress playing Nico and this one is a bit over-dramatic and really overdoes the French accent. Probably the weakest of the four. The best part of the game is the actor who plays the drunken bum Archie. He is laugh out loud funny. He should be given his own game! His British bumbling accent is incredibly entertaining and so is his way of constantly forgetting George's name.

All in all, probably third weakest of the first four BS games. The third one remains the worst of all the games.

TLDR : Ce jeu sent le foin. Jouez au 1

Le précédent était déjà une torture qui m'a littéralement fait baver de rage devant mon écran à force de casse-têtes fastidieux, de contrôles du personnage totalement aux fraises et d'une qualité technique bancale du logiciel mise en valeur par l'absence de sauvegardes automatiques. Je m'étais malgré tout forcé à terminer Broken Sword 3 par principe afin de constater que la médiocrité était constante de bout en bout. Je ne réitérerais pas l'exploit ici, la leçon est rentrée.

La première chose que l'on remarque au lancement c'est l'allure de diaporama de cet opus dont le moteur asthmatique daigne nous lâcher une image de temps à autre, le mini-jeu d'introduction à Broken Sword 4 sera donc de remédier à ce problème. Heureusement, à cet unique souci existe une dizaine de solutions différentes sur les forums, ce qui est toujours bon signe (non).
De mon côté, même si j'ai pu pallier ceci et rendre le jeu jouable, il continuera de saccader pendant toute ma partie.

Le deuxième point gonflant du jeu après ses performances est selon moi la maniabilité du personnage. Comme dans le jeu précédent, notre ennemi sera le changement de caméra. Pour une raison que j'ignore mais qui sent le bug laissé à l’abandon, lorsque vous déplacez Georges et que la caméra change de place en plein mouvement, la direction dans laquelle il avance ne sera pas ajusté pour correspondre à votre nouvel angle de vue, résultant en un déplacement perçu ne correspondant pas aux touches que vous utilisez. Je ne sais pas si je suis clair, mais en bref c'est nul et il faut souvent réappuyer sur les touches ZQSD après un mouvement de caméra.

Les modèles 3D sont plutôt jolis mais ils bénéficient peut-être de la comparaison avec la laideur de Broken Sword 3, et de toute manière ça ne rattrape pas le florilège de décors moches et vides que l'on traverse accompagné d'animations purement fonctionnelles et inexpressives. Pourquoi s'entêter à faire de la 3D creuse et inorganique quand on peut faire de la 2D avec de beaux décors, des animations mieux maîtrisées et des tableaux riches en détails et plus interactifs ?

Les dialogues et les personnages n’ont rien de notable, ni bons ni mauvais, ils servent l’histoire qui semble être une énième chasse au trésor à la suite d’une découverte de relique, rien de nouveau sous le soleil. Ce n’est donc pas eux qui vont sauver le gameplay qui fait lentement bouillir la cocotte. Je ne sais pas si l’humour est là, je ne crois pas, j’ai cru comprendre que certains s’amusaient des répliques, moi elles ne me font pas rire et le fait qu’elles coupent la moitié du temps avant la fin pour laisser les personnages agiter leur mâchoire dans le vide comme des poissons moribonds y est probablement pour quelque chose.

Les énigmes ne sont pas bien compliquées et le manque d’interactivité de l’environnement fait qu’on a vite trouvé la solution par hasard en cas de difficulté. Sur mon temps de jeu j’ai eu l’occasion de voir passer deux itérations d’un même mini-jeu qui n’a pas opposé beaucoup de résistance non plus.

Broken Sword 4 est légèrement au dessus de son prédécesseur mais ça ne vole pas haut pour autant, il aura au moins l’avantage de ne pas comporter des énigmes idiotes avec des caisses. Je l’ai arrêté avant la fin par agacement, fatigué de supporter des mécaniques frustrantes même pas compensées par une écriture intéressante. Dans mes souvenirs le 1 était excellent, le 2 honorable et le 5 sympathique, la licence peut s’arrêter à ça. Étonnamment les deux moutons noirs sont les deux opus en 3D, pas étonnants qu’ils aient arrêté après celui-ci pour revenir aux sources.

Very average compared to all the other broken swords, worst of them all. Similar gameplay style to BS3. Lacking the beauty, charm and flare the others did somehow. The Puzzles and story sequence are repetitive and tedious, seems to be repeating the same things in different places, lacking a lot of originality and mystery the other games offered... Character development and styles seem bland too. Not worth the time or money. If your really keen on the BS franchise then give it a go but dont expect anything, if not dont waste your time.

Broken Sword 4 is not completely terrible, but controls and graphics are poor. Some puzzles were good and the story was alright, but overall this one I cannot recommend.

I was told this was the worst in the Broken Sword series. I had played throught the last three games, so before jumping into 5, I felt obligated to play through the fourth game at least once. And I can say for sure that I will never come back to this game.

But to play devil's advocate I will say they do improve a few things from the last game. They got rid of the Keyboard controls thankfully, and added a run button so I didn't have to George take an hour to walk across a room. I even liked a few characters like Mark the Priest and Archie the Hermit. But everyone else from here I think I'm probably going to forget after writing this review. Anne Maria in particular borders on annoying to forgettable herself. Especially considering she's fills in for Nico for half of the game which thankfully returns to help you out with the rest of it. But even then she only gets about one level to herself and does little else in the game.

The puzzles are also the lazies I've seen in the series. Not since the last Puzzle in Broken Sword have I seen problems built just make sure this game is stretched as long as it can be. Which is suprising since you have a handy dandy manuscript with you to help you solve most of the puzzles. They also included a pipe game where you have hack into stuff, which is fairly simple to just annoying. Which is a good summation of the whole game.

After playing through the last three games, whatever gripes I had about the last two pale in comparison to this entry. It offers nothing fun, the enviroments are boring and on top of that I didn't even laugh at anything in this game. Except maybe the health inspector bit. But really just skip this game, even if you are a fan like me, its not worth the time. If your still curious. Just go watch it on Youtube.

During one of the earlier puzzles you are required to burn an item in order to create smoke. I chose to burn a paper map. The game gave no indication that I should have used a different item and the puzzle completed successfully. Jump forward to the penultimate puzzle in the game. After much futile clicking, I decide to read a guide. Turns out I needed the map that I had burned to ashes about 10 hours prior! So there I was, stuck on the penultimate puzzle with no way to progress and no way to complete the game.

I was willing to look past the poor writing, nonsensical puzzles and overall jankiness but that pissed me off enough to leave my first ever negative review. Skip this one and play BS5 instead.

P.S. About 4 or 5 of my sessions with this game ended with me falling asleep in front of my monitor. That probably isn't a good sign either...

Don't buy this. Don't get it. Not even for free. It's an insult to Broken Sword saga and all videogames. Broken Sword 3 is bad, but this is nasty.
Puzzles are completely illogical.
In the first 30 minutes of the game, you have to stop an elevator door using a golf-club...in a room full of crates and cabinets.
And after, you have to create a bridge between 2 very close edges, closing a door, and knocking it down with your shoulder.
I can't understand how people can suggest this game with a positive review.
1/10 for me.

Definitely the worst game in the series. Controls and camera are clunky and frustrating. The game crashed multiple times so if you do end up playing make sure to save VERY often. The character also got stuck multiple times throughout the game and I needed to look up fixes to the game just to progress. The story wasn't as compelling as other games and Nico is replaced as the female protagonist by Anna Maria. Which might of been my least favorite part of the whole game. If you are a fan and want to play it to say you played the whole series - I get it. That's the only reason I made it through the whole game. But I would highly recommend playing another game.

Be warned - spoilers are ahead: Anna Maria is selfish and poorly written. Nico appears about part way through the game and she is also poorly written compared to the other games in the series. Extremely disappointed!

Poorly aged, but still retained that Broken Sword vibe

Broken Sword 4 is a continuation of one the best adventure game series of all time. Again you embark on an adventure with lots of things to uncover, solving puzzles and of course saving the world.

The story is really nice, maybe not on par with first two games but it's pretty damn solid. Lots of locations to explore and dangers to avoid. Using you braing will be required as always, but this is not one those games where puzzles are impossible. Mostly they're fun, but it adopted some strange design choices. Some puzzles or gameplay mechanics might feel out of place and of course the whole 3D aspect of the game is a huge let down. But still in the end it's a quite enjoyable adventure.

Graphically the game looks like absolute trash now. It didn't even looked good when it came out. 3D adventure games shouldn't be a thing. First because of aging graphics year after year. Second because of stupid controls. I'm glad with Broken Sword 5 they went back to old style and it worked perfectly. And third because these games are niche and usually have small budgets, so developers just can't afford making the graphics look good.

Get this one if you're a fan of Broken Sword series, you should still enjoy it with all its downsides. But i wouldn't recommend this game for others. It's just too dated, controls are bad and some puzzles doesn't belong the game.

My reccomendation is yes/no!

Even though Broken Sword is one of my favorite Point & Click series, Broken Sword 4 is the one I did not like at all. It is so slow compared to the first three ones and the puzzles sometimes made me crazy! Maybe that is why it is one of the less famous BS out there. Also the fact that it has two different naming (Secrets of the Ark: A Broken Sword Game) and it did not come out for any console, makes it less popular ( I guess ). Anyway, if you love the series as much as me, play it with the knowledge that it is really not the best Broken Sword. If you are not a big fan, just watch some let's play and skip it!
