Buddy haut den Lukas!

Als Kind der 80er Jahre habe ich Bud Spencer und Terence Hill-Filme quasi mit der Muttermilch aufgesogen. Ob nun Banana Joe, Sie nannten ihn Mücke, Zwei wie Pech und Schwefel, Linke und Rechte Hand des Teufels, Der Supercop – und wie sie alle heißen – ich liebe die Filme, ich liebe die Figuren und ich liebe die Musik.

An Bud Spencer & Terence Hill – Slaps and Beans hat mich zuerst verwundert, dass es sich hierbei tatsächlich um die erste Spieleversoftung der beiden Kultfiguren überhaupt zu handeln scheint – wer hätte das gedacht? Entwickelt wurde das Spiel von Trinity Team, die passenderweise Italiener sind, produziert und ins Leben gerufen allerdings von Buddy Productions, einer deutschen Firma, die zum Teil auch von Bud Spencers Nachkommen besetzt ist. Das Ganze ist also ein offizielles Produkt, von Spencer höchstpersönlich (und noch vor seinem Tod) abgesegnet. Finanziert wurde das Spiel via Kickstarter mit deutlich über 200 000 Euro. Das ermöglichte dann unter anderem auch die Lizenzierung von Teilen der Original-Musik.

Nun zum Spiel: Das Gameplay entspricht einem ganz normalen Sidescroller Beat em up / Brawler, wie man es gerne in den 80ern Jahren mit Golden Axe, Double Dragon, Final Fight und vielen anderen Vertretern seiner Zunft gespielt hat. Ebenso wie das Spiel eine Hommage an die beiden Hauptprotagonisten ist, so es auch eine an das Retro-Gaming jener Zeit, denn Slap and Beans ist in nahezu jedem Punkt in den 80ern hängen geblieben: Das betrifft das Gameplay, das tatsächlich aus nicht viel mehr als das Verdreschen von Dutzenden von Gegnern besteht, als auch die Minispielchen, die meist mittelprächtig umgesetzt sind. Und es betrifft die Optik, die in feinsten 16-Bit-Pixeln in Szene gesetzt wurden.

In mehreren Szenarien, die sich thematisch an den Filmen orientieren (Wilder Westen, Miami, Buggy-Rennen, Tropische Insel) prügeln wir uns also von links nach rechts durch unzählige Gegner-Horden und bezwingen den einen oder anderen Endboss. Gespielt werden kann dabei entweder Spencer oder Hill – wobei die jeweils andere Figur dann von der KI übernommen wird. Besser allerdings ist es, man hat einen zweiten Mitspieler zur Hand, dann macht das Verteilen der Schellen deutlich mehr Spaß. Aufgelockert wird das Spielgeschehen von einigen Story-Fetzen, dummen Sprüchen und Minigames. Letztere sind mehr oder weniger originell umgesetzt, spielerisch aber meist auf niedrigem Niveau.

Unterm Strich möchte ich das Spiel lieben. Ich mag die 16 Bit-Optik, die bis auf die etwas hakeligen Animationen echt hübsch ist. Ich mag die Musik, die bei mir Gänsehaut erzeugt. Und natürlich mag ich es, wenn Buddy den Lukas haut und mittels Dampframme und Schelle (inklusive der dazu passenden Geräuschkulisse) seine Gegner verdrischt. Doch es gibt halt auch eine Schattenseite der Medaille: Zum Beispiel das, was die Filme nämlich neben den beiden Figuren, der Musik und der Schlägerei ausgemacht hat -- die kultigen Sprüche. Die blinzeln zwar manchmal durch, aber der Großteil des Textes und der Dialoge ist so öde (und in Bezug auf Terence Hill auch übertrieben schwanzgesteuert), dass ich gerne und oft die Turbotaste drücke, um den Großteil der Gespräche schneller zu beenden.

Und da wäre natürlich das repetitive Gameplay: Das Spiel macht 30 Minuten Spaß. Vielleicht auch eine Stunde. Und dazwischen Minigames zweifelhafter Qualität. Und dann fragt man sich schon: Geht’s jetzt immer so weiter? Und damit komme ich zu meinem Eingangs erwähnten Retro-Style zurück: Diese Art Spiel hat schon vor über 30 Jahren schnell gelangweilt, nur waren die anderen Spiele eben genauso gestrickt und man kannte es nicht besser.

So bleibt als Fazit, dass das Spiel von der Nostalgie zu seinen Protagonisten, der Musik, der SFX, der hübschen Optik lebt. Deshalb gibt’s von mir als Fanboy einen Daumen nach oben. Wer aber mit Vier Fäuste für ein Halleluja nichts anfangen kann, ist hier gänzlich falsch aufgehoben.

Also jeder der was für die alten Bud Spencer und Terence Hill Filme übrig hat wird auch das Spiel hier mögen :D
Ein Solides 2D Beat em up was man bei lust und laune auch noch im coop spielen kann :D
Das Spiel ist recht geschmeidig auf 100% zu Spielen ohne verpassbare Erfolge (Level auswahl vorhanden).
Zeit bis 100% grob 8h, Schwierigkeit 5/10

Ich habe das spiel in 2 stunden durchgespielt und in 2 stunden hatte ich noch nie so viel nostalagie auf einmal (außer ich spiele die alten hitman games oder half life :D) Ich bin zwar nicht so alt aber ich kenne Bud spencer & Terence Hill schon und feier ihre filme und persönlichkeit. Ich würde trozdem auf ein sale warten da 20E doch etwas viel sind wobei ich es verstehe da das kleine entwickler team warscheinlich sehr viel für die lizens von dem originalen songs geblecht hat. und ja es ist die originale musik wie in den filmen. Wie z.B Dune Buggy der im film ''Zwei wie Pech und Schwefel'' zu hören ist. Eif genial!

Was für ein Hammerspiel. Ich bin großer Bud und Terence Fan. Die Musik, die Szenen und das Gespiele macht einfach Happy. Kann ich jeden empfehlen, vorallem allen die Bud und Terence Fans sind. Das muss man einfach haben.

geiles game, es hat bud, es hat teremce, es hat die musik und es hat die bohnen. da wird das eher mittelmässige gameplay glatt zur nebensache. :D

Mach Platz, ich bin der Landvogt! :) . Jeder echte Fan der auch gamer ist träumte seid dem ersten Film genau von diesem Spiel. Gänsehaut Garantie. Da steckt viel wahre Leidenschaft drin. Zudem wurden zusätzliche blöde Bemerkungen hinzugefügt :). Schon im ersten Part sieht man nur bekannte Gesichter einfach alle sind dabei. Nur die Steuerung sollte etwas mehr Optionen bieten aber da gewöhnt man sich dran. Die Grafik sollte man aber Bitte auf keinen Fall verbessern denn sie gibt einem genau das Gefühl aus dieser Generation.

Ein herrliches und kurzweiliges Beat 'Em Up !
Nicht nur für Fans der zwei Legenden.

Jetzt wo ich das Spiel auf 100 % gebracht und alle Errungenschaften freigeschaltet habe, möchte ich mal ein paar Worte zu dem Spiel verlieren. Die Entwickler haben hier meiner Meinung nach eine echte Perle in die Gamerwelt gesetzt.

Slaps and Beans ist ein Beat 'Em Up, welches das Herz von Bud Spencer und Terence Hill Fans höher schlagen lassen dürfte. Aber auch alle anderen, die etwas mit diesem Genre anfangen können, dürften positiv überrascht von dem Spiel sein, denn es macht einfach pure Laune die Fäuste zu schwingen und Schellen zu verteilen.

Die Grafik des Spiels ist aus meiner Sicht glücklicherweise in ein 2D Pixelgewand gepackt worden und strotzt dennoch nur so vor Details. Wer die alten NeoGeo Beat 'Em Up Klassiker kennt oder auch Capcom's Final Fight usw. wird begeistert sein. Es sind so viele Kleinigkeiten und Details bei näherem betrachten zu sehen, dass es einfach eine Freude ist, dieses Game zu spielen. Fans der Filme werden unzählige Schauplätze und Hinweise wiedererkennen. Auch die beiden Helden sind unschwer wiederzuerkennen inklusive der ganzen Animationen.

Musikalisch ist das Spiel ein absoluter Hammer! Viele Songs aus den Filmen kommen hier zum Einsatz und es macht durch die Vertrautheit der Musik gleich noch einmal so viel Spass sich durch die levels zu Prügeln. Auch die Soundkulisse der Prügelein sind sehr gut gelungen, denn z.b. Bud's Dampfhammer klingt auch so. Oder wenn Terence seine blitzschnellen Ohrschellen verteilt, klingt es wie das reinste Backpfeiffengewitter. Was auch absolut lobenswert ist, dass es in den Optionen eine Musicbox gibt, in der man sich alle Songs anhören kann. Herrlich!

Kommen wir noch zum Kernstück des Spiels und zwar das Genretypische Prügeln. Man sollte von diesem Spiel bzw. von der Kampfmechanik keine Combos und Komplexität eines Streets of Rage 4 erwarten. Aber das hat dieses Spiel auch garnicht nötig, denn Bud und Terence haben einen ganz anderen Kampfstil und dennoch ist das austeilen von Schlägen auf unterschiedliche Art und Weise möglich, wenn man herausgefunden hat wie es funktioniert.

Neben den normalen Schlägen gibt es Bud's Dampfhammer oder auch einen beidhändigen Paukenschlag auf die Ohren. Aus dem Blocken herraus kann Bud die Faust des Gegners packen und eine Konterattacke ausführen. Bud kann rennen und gezielt mehrere Gegner niederrempeln, während Terence dies mit einem Tritt aus dem laufen herraus tut. Terence kann neben normalen Schlägen auch seine blitzschnellen Backpfeiffen verteilen, oder auch über erschöpfte Gegner hüpfen. Es lässt sich also allerhand anstellen.

Dann gibt es neben den Prügelein noch etwas Abwechslung durch das berühmte Buggyrennen, einer weiteren Autofahrt und man wird sogar auf Pferde gesetzt. Was die Story des Spiels angeht ist sie Genretypisch eher flach, aber dennoch witzig. Die Levelübergänge machen Sinn und es gibt eine Karte, auf der man nach Bedarf in die verschiedenen Level einsteigen kann, was nützlich ist, wenn man die Errungenschaften freischalten möchte.

Ich würde mich riesig über einen Nachfolger freuen, denn mir hat das Spiel sehr viel Spass bereitet und ich habe mehrmals meine Lachmuskeln benutzen müssen.

Das Spiel erhält eine Klare Kaufempfehlung von mir.

Ein absolutes Muss für alle Bud Spencer und Terence Hill Fans. Das Spiel ist grafisch im klassischen Point-n-Click-Design der 80er gehalten und macht richtig Laune. Mit Bud und Terence (im 1 oder 2-Spieler-Modus) kämpft man sich durch viele maximal liebevoll gestaltete, den Filmen nachempfundene Level und vermöbelt ordentliche Horden an Gegnern. Auch Klassiker wie ein Buggy-Rennen oder ein Bier und Würstchen Wettessen fehlen nicht. Absolut genialer Bonus/Pluspunkt: Die Original Filmmusik ist im Spiel vorhanden. Absolut genial.

Gets boring quite quickly due to the repetitiveness of the brawls and the more tedious than exciting mini games.

I finished the game in local co-op mode with my buddy in about 4.5 hours.

If you are not a die-hard BS & TH fan, avoid this game. Otherwise, wait for a deep discount - or better watch one of their movies ;-)

Das Game ist einfach mega lustig! Absolute Empfehlung. Es macht mega Spaß, vor allem im Koop.. man haben wir uns kaputt gelacht xD Viel zu gut! Ich verlange einen Nachfolger :D

Hab´s im Sale gekauft, da es doch recht kurzweilig ist, eine gute Entscheidung. Aber gut, alleine der ingame OST ist sein Geld wert.

Bud Spencer & Terence Hill – das Kult-Duo meiner Fernsehjugend! Um die 30 Jahre mag es her sein, dass ich jeden ihrer Filme mehrfach gesehen habe. Heute bin ich älter, reifer und der Filmgeschmack ist einfach ein anderer als früher. Aber der Test zu Slaps and Beans auf GG hat mich angefixt, nachdem ich die Kickstarter-Kampagne irgendwie verpasst habe. Die Wertung war nicht berauschend, aber hier ging es für mich nicht um Gameplay und Grafik, sondern einfach um Atmosphäre und Nostalgie.

Ich habe also zugeschlagen (im doppelten Sinne) und mich durch Unmengen von tumben Schlägern gekämpft – untermalt von der herrlichen Original-Filmmusik und den so typischen Kampfgeräuschen. Herausforderung und Abwechslung hielten sich erwartungsgemäß in Grenzen. Die Einstreuung der gelungenen Bosskämpfe und der (manchmal zu anspruchslosen) Minispiele (zum Beispiel einfache Schalter-Rätsel, Autorennen) tut dem Spiel auf jeden Fall gut; ohne diese wäre es wohl sehr monoton.

Kritikpunkte sind für mich die zu wenigen Speicherpunkte (auch auf leicht), die manchmal zu träge Steuerung und das fehlende Voice-Acting. Wenn man wenigstens an ein paar Stellen Original-Samples von Bud & Terence einspielen würde, würde das bestimmt schon einiges ausmachen in Sachen Atmosphäre. Die Musik hingegen ist total mitreißend und macht schlicht gute Laune. Auch die Pixelgrafik gefällt mir gut und passt einfach zu einem solchen Sidescroller. Unter dem Strich hatte ich meinen (kurzen) Spaß mit Slaps and Beans. Allerdings hätte man mehr machen können aus der sehr guten Vorlage, die die beiden Kult-Prügler bieten.

Jeder Bud & Terence Fan da draußen, der auch nur irgendwie ansatzweise einen PC anschalten kann, muss unbedingt dieses Spiel spielen.
Es ist einfach nur herrlich die Kindheitserinnerungen noch einmal Revue passieren zu lassen und sämtliche Schauplätze zu sehen.

Eindeutig von Fans für Fans gemacht. Ich kann mich nicht erinnern, wann ich das letzte mal bei einem Spiel so laut gelacht habe.

Super nettes Beat'em'Up im SideScroller-Stil

und das beste: durch die Musik und die witzigen, leider nur als Text verfügbaren Dialoge bekommt man - sofern man die guten Bud Spencer und Terence Hill Filme als Kind gesehen hat - total den Nostalgieflash! Super witzig!

Und Achtung: für alle Mac User - das spiel funktioniert SEHR WOHL unter MacOS Catalina! Es lässt sich anfangs nur nicht direkt aus steam heraus starten. Einfach Rechtsklick drauf -> Verwalten -> Lokale Dateien durchsuchen und die App direkt starten. Das klappt im Übrigen auch bei vielen anderen Games, die Steam fälschlicherweise als inkompatibel bezeichnet (oder auch bei Games, bei denen Steam das nicht tut, aber es sich dennoch nicht starten lässt).
Und noch was: das Game benötigt zugriff auf die Tastatur, damit es auch ohne GamePad funktioniert - das muss man evtl. manuell in den Einstellungen von Catalina eintragen.

Sonst funktioniert das super!

Gespielt werden kann dabei entweder Spencer oder Hill – wobei die jeweils andere Figur dann von der KI übernommen wird. Besser allerdings ist es, man hat einen zweiten Mitspieler zur Hand, dann macht das Verteilen der Schellen deutlich mehr Spaß. Aufgelockert wird das Spielgeschehen von einigen Story-Fetzen, dummen Sprüchen und Minigames. Letztere sind mehr oder weniger originell umgesetzt, spielerisch aber meist auf niedrigem Niveau.

Unterm Strich möchte ich das Spiel lieben. Ich mag die 16 Bit-Optik, die bis auf die etwas hakeligen Animationen echt hübsch ist. Ich mag die Musik, die bei mir Gänsehaut erzeugt. Und natürlich mag ich es, wenn Buddy den Lukas haut und mittels Dampframme und Schelle (inklusive der dazu passenden Geräuschkulisse) seine Gegner verdrischt. Doch es gibt halt auch eine Schattenseite der Medaille: Zum Beispiel das, was die Filme nämlich neben den beiden Figuren, der Musik und der Schlägerei ausgemacht hat -- die kultigen Sprüche. Die blinzeln zwar manchmal durch, aber der Großteil des Textes und der Dialoge ist so öde (und in Bezug auf Terence Hill auch übertrieben schwanzgesteuert), dass ich gerne und oft die Turbotaste drücke, um den Großteil der Gespräche schneller zu beenden.

Und da wäre natürlich das repetitive Gameplay: Das Spiel macht 30 Minuten Spaß. Vielleicht auch eine Stunde. Und dazwischen Minigames zweifelhafter Qualität. Und dann fragt man sich schon: Geht’s jetzt immer so weiter? Und damit komme ich zu meinem Eingangs erwähnten Retro-Style zurück: Diese Art Spiel hat schon vor über 30 Jahren schnell gelangweilt, nur waren die anderen Spiele eben genauso gestrickt und man kannte es nicht besser.

So bleibt als Fazit, dass das Spiel von der Nostalgie zu seinen Protagonisten, der Musik, der SFX, der hübschen Optik lebt. Deshalb gibt’s von mir als Fanboy einen Daumen nach oben. Wer aber mit Vier Fäuste für ein Halleluja nichts anfangen kann, ist hier gänzlich falsch aufgehoben.

Carlo und Mario - ich bin mit ihnen aufgewachsen. Den ersten Film sah ich in den Siebzigern im Kino. Dieses Spiel ist authentisch und mit viel Liebe zum Detail gemacht - natürlich retro - klasse! Die originalen Soundtracks runden perfekt ab. Ich hab das Spiel dieses Jahr zum Geburtstag bekommen. Seither spiele ich mehrmals die Woche und bin wieder Kind dabei - schön, diese Zeitreise.

Zu allererst : In Gedenken an Carlo Pedersoli/Bud Spencer (31.10.1929 - 27.6.2016). R.I.P. Held und Liebling ganzer Generationen. Er hätte dieses Spiel bestimmt genau so lustig gefunden wie ich.

Es gibt hier eine Menge Boing, Batsch und Rums, wie in den vielen Filmen, in denen Bud Spencer und Terence Hill ihre legendären Rollen gespielt haben. Es gibt hier sogar einen roten Strandbuggy mit gelbem Häubchen.
Das Spiel ist zwar noch im Early Access, macht aber jetzt schon richtig Spaß. Den bewusstlosen Gegner als Rammbock oder Wurfgeschoss einsetzen oder mit Buddis Rammattacke den Bildschirm von Gegnern freiräumen ist nur eine von vielen Möglichkeiten um ordentlich auszuteilen. Ein spaßiges Spiel, bei dem vor allem Fans der beiden, aber auch Gelegenheitsspieler auf ihre Kosten kommen können.

Einziger Kritikpunkt: Ein wenig zu kurz

Holt es euch, oder Buddi haut den Lukas und macht aus euren Ohren Wäschetrockner!

They say violence solves nothing, but put these two daredevils in the middle of the chaos and they'll solve it, but that doesn't mean it's without chunks and marks and other signs of raging combat!

Bud Spencer and Terrence Hill's Slaps and Beans is a great and humorous beat 'em up as if Double Dragon got a Hollywood contract!
The biggest share of the charms in this game lies less in the combat possibilities and more in the totality of what you see and hear,
just like the stunt objects in movies, everything here seems to crumble just as easily at the slightest bump,
the number of enemies that keep coming at you also equal the insane numbers that this duo could handle in their iconic stories.
Also a great asset to get into the right atmosphere is the music and sound effects that can dot the i's and cross the i's when it comes to hilarity.

I can well imagine that the biggest fans of this game could (have been) are Bud Spencer & Terence Hill themselves, since you can view this game as a bit of an ode to this great duo, if someone had to make a game about start buttons then this would undoubtedly end up in my favorites too!

Now, I am very torn about this game. From one side it's an amazing tribute for the two legendary movie stars and the films they co-starred in. From the other side it's just not a very good beat em up. The game looks gorgeous, it's filled with some iconic music tracks, the animation is pretty good, but again gameplay wise it's tolerable at best.

Not sure what went wrong, but beating people up just isn't very fun. The basic attack doesn't feel good, there's only one heavy/special move, there are no combos (even though you can combo string hits between the two characters which is pretty cool), enemies don't really react that well to your hits. Like hitting them with the basic attack doesn't stun lock them so you end up exchanging hits with enemies with barely any tactics. There's a parry button, which is fun to watch the first few times you nailed it, but again there's only one move per character.

Thankfully there are plenty of mini-game and variety in the levels, so it never gets too boring. Trying to catch a train on horseback, having a race, having a hot dog contest, offer a much needed breath of fresh air just when the actual fighting starts getting stale and repetitive.

At the end of the day, I can only recommend it to fans of the two actors and their movies. If you want actual beat em ups, there way WAY better choices out there. But as a fun experience with Bud Spencer and Terence Hill, especially with a friend is not a bad way to spend a couple of hours.

Hopefully the sequel will be better.

The boys waited a really long time for their first game processing. Unfortunately, only Terence lived to see him, but fortunately he can fall asleep with a calm heart. Slaps and Beans pays tribute to the iconic couple and their legendary comedies in an adequate way - in the form of a 2D threshing machine. It blinks to countless scenes and lets you remember the good old days. But it doesn't offer much to players outside the fan circle.

It looks like 16-Bit game and has a great retro feel (Double Dragon style). I really wanted this to support the developer and the idea for a Terence and Bud game and keeping their memory fresh (Terence is 82 at the time of this review and Bud passed away). I grew up on these movies, with Crimebusters being my first :)

Fun game! It's like the Double Dragon (arcade game from the 80s) with some humour and cool fighting moves added to it. Totally worth it if purchasing on special but I will say this, I was not able to play two players with two matching controllers one person had to use the keyboard.

In the discussion thread belonging to this game somebody started to rage asking why oh why we have to accept such games when Street Rage 4 is already out. For the answer head over to the wiki for Carlo Pedersoli and Mario Girotti and check what they accomplished under the nicknames of Bud Spencer and Terence Hill. They had their own movies but the majority of the viewers like (and watch up to this date) the journeys they made as a duo.

Now, Slaps And Beans is an homage. Interestingly, it has its own story but each stage makes you recognise one or several of the duo's films. In a nutshell, our heroes participate in a movie shoot and when trying to pick up their money for the job they find themselves in the middle of a kidnapping. Terence is immediately concerned about the well-being of the kidnapped lady while Bud only agrees to the rescue as he firmly believes their money is, too, kidnapped.

It's a beat 'em up alright. You move from screen to screen and eliminate your foes. Our heroes execute basic and heavy attacks, run and can even defend themselves. The story requires the presence of both (due to the many dialogues) so even if you're alone your A.I. buddy will accompany you. It should be noted that your computer companion plays pretty well. The downside is that in case you're down he will not revive you. It is game over and you start over from the checkpoint. Playing with a friend is your best bet.

Slapping an enemy is most satisfying. You will recognise the sound effects from the movies and we haven't even discussed the soundtrack! The album is found in the main menu under jukebox which allows you to just listen to the score the guys re-recorded. In line with the films there are other activities you can do (minigames) at certain areas and every 2 or 3 levels end in a boss battle. The game is not as difficult as a typical beat 'em up is. Once you're done with the medium setting you can pick hard - it is, actually, an even more satisfying experience (not counting the endgame boss battle, though).

Are you Italian? German or perhaps Hungarian? The guys were famous in several Western-European countries and they are quite well known in post-socialist countries, too. Change the language setting and hear those famous lines in your language, the ones that people tend to quote even today. And perhaps even US folks know them as they started in the spaghetti western genre (some time after the Leone & Eastwood trilogy) and several of their movies were shot in Florida. If you know these folks Slaps And Beans is a must. Otherwise stick to Street Rage.

*edit* I forgot to add that the co-op functionality only exists locally. However, Steam's Remote Play can help and remedy this issue. With a similar local co-op game myself and my buddy experienced stuttering when it comes to Slaps And Beans this feature worked flawlessly. Remote Play allows you to join your friend without launching (and, in fact, owning) the game itself. Say goodbye to progress and achievements - you have to do it in your own later own.

Must have if you are a fan of Bud Spencer & Terence Hill films!
This game can reproduce their atmosphere and fun pretty decently.

Update after having beaten the game: I confirm the strong recommendation to every Bud Spencer & Terence Hill fan but want to point out that the game is pretty short (it can be beaten in about 3.5 hours) and is affected by some glitches that may be frustrating. To me it happened twice to be stuck due to bugs and I had to restart that part. It didn't cost me so much time, so the impact on the gaming experience was not so important. However, this may be important for some potential buyers, since the developers don't look like maintaining this software any more.

Considering these two important points, one may want to look for a decent discount before buying the game, in case he or she doesn't plan to use co-op and go for the achievements. Otherwise I consider it as a fair price even despite the two mentioned weaknesses.

There are some few glitches here and there, especially minigames related, but overall it's a funny, precious, little game for whoever has fond memories of the unforgettable movies from those 2 legends.
The games itself is a pretty capable beat'em'up, with the aforementioned minigames to diversify the gameplay. Prepare for tons of citations from the movies throwed at you non stop. And original musics from movies, including the tracks made by Oliver Onions and La Bionda!

+ 16 bit arcade style graphics nicely done, it kinds of give a warm touch and never gets old to me
+ original soundtracks! I totally love all La Bionda's tracks
+ funny gameplay albeit can get boring
+ much better if played with a friend

CONS
- The minigames could receive some more polish.
- Minor bugs. Watch out for the goods lift that can be controlled by a player at the port warehouse, using it can get a player stuck indefinitely forcing a restart. In my experience this is the only one that can ruin your session.

The gameplay is a mix between retro beat'em up and minigames. Unfortunately the gameplay itself is nothing special, at times getting repetitive although never what you could call bad. Now I assume you are interested in the title because you know the protagonists and have watched the mayhem. If so you will find a gem of a retro game that will have you smiling and replaying the shows in your head.
On the chance you don't know who Bud Spencer and Terence Hill are, you owe yourself a favour to watch at least one of their movies before buying this. An amusing and outstanding homage to Bud and Terence wrapped up in an average retro-like shell.

I would have totally liked this game, I really do. I love Bud & Terence and I love the old beat ‘em ups. I should have been a perfect candidate for this game. But I discourage to buy it, even on sale (as I did).
Apart from the fact that the original price (20 euros) seems a bit too much. The game is almost nonexistent here. The base mechanics are way too easy and straightforward. No real combos, no real moves. You just go on with your character and press a button without any kind of tactics, strategy or effort. It’s sad to say, but beat ‘em ups of 30 years ago were way better.
The difficulty is ridiculous. For the 90% of time you will advance just by pressing a button. For the remaining 10%, the difficulty spikes in such a way that becomes a wall, and it’s really difficult to go on. This factor for me is a major annoyance.
The best thing about the game is the soundtrack for its nostalgia value. Even the graphics are not so good. Yes the pixel art and animation are fine, but there are only a few of them, and all of them are accessible since the beginning so you’ll become tired rapidly. The sprites are really small, making difficult to distinguish them and have a clear vision of the action.
This game only tries to capitalize on the brand with no effort. This is not the way to pay respect to such a historic piece of cinema.

That brought back some fond memories of my childhood and motivated me to finally spend the money and acquire all of Bud Spencer & Terence Hill's movies. Thanks to the developers for this little gem, I enjoyed every single second of it! Please bear in mind that this is first and foremost a game for the fans of the motion pictures, if you consider yourself a fan, get it, by all means. If you don't know the movies at all, you'll likely miss all the references and and think this game makes no sense whatsoever.
One thing that wasn't working that well was the gamepad setup. It took me an hour to figure out that the game was trying to use my thrustmaster flight-stick, after unplugging that, my Xbox360 gamepad worked like a charm. I assume that's a Unity thing, but some kind of feedback about the input device used would have been helpful there. If you consider getting this game, I highly recommend you use a gamepad for the best experience.

After the first few levels I find this a charming, faithful and creative nod to Bud and Terence. The graphics are beautiful, the fighting is repetitive but fun, and the extra challenges are a nice way to add variability. HOWEVER this should be a co-op game to be able to enjoy fully and it isn't. The option is missing to map your keys for the controller so unless you have one the game auto detects, you are stuck with the keyboard controls. That may work for some, but I'd rather play this with two gamepads and I'm not willing to buy another Xbox controller because the developers don't fix this. Actually I'm a bit annoyed but since the love for Bud and Terence is something is share deeply with the developers I'm still giving the game a thumbs up. It's just a shame to let a wonderful contcept be dragged down by a sheer technicality.

Mixed feelings.
The graphics and the mini-games lead the retro/arcade feeling (but have some glitches). Music is good, the control is responsive. The nostalgia factor is OK.
The game is so short, too easy, and the second half is repetitive.

But my biggest problem is the nostalgic factor, it is just OK. I mean you can find same Easter eggs, items and locations from movies, but those are so superficial, not real part of the gameplay. Without knowing the movies this is a bad game.

This game had me filling a bucket with tears of nostalgia. It made me feel 20 years younger.

It's a huge love letter to the pair of our childhood heroes, which primarily engaged in fisticuffs galore in the 70's.
Longstanding fans will catch all the references to the movies and film crew.

And the music, oh my Lord, that sweet, sweet music that Bud Spencer & Terence Hill movies were famous for is all included.
Same goes for the many slapstick sounds brawling emits.
And the pixel art graphics only add to the charm, believe me.

It's not a particularly long game, but it left a very lovely impression on me and I would recommend it to any fan of this series out there.

A really fun, well made and true to the source material beat'em'up game.

The premise of the game is as simple as most beat'em'up games are - move through the stage and beat all enemies on the way. What makes this game stand out from that premise is the characters and the humor from their source material. Rather than take everything seriously, Slaps and Beans is full of humor, just like the BS&TH movies. Enemies are slapped around, have their feet stomped, get hit with their own fist and a lot more, all while funny sounds play with each hit. And not just in the fights, but also the story, which is also like their original movies - not taken too seriously and full of humor, specially the commentary from the protagonists.

Stages are also quite varied. While most stages are standard beat'em'up stages, there are also a good variety of different stages on the way like a race, a horse riding stage and more (not being overly specific here to avoid spoilers).

The soundtrack, like the sound design as well, is amazing and fits really well into the game's humor.

Each character has their own moves and even a few special moves as well. For instance, Bud Spencer can crouch when surrounded by enemies and then knock them all away. And when playing alone, a bot will control the second character. The bot is very competent, being able to handle enemies, perform necessary actions and use health items accordingly. In addition, the player can switch between characters at any moment as well.

My only problems with the game are the unbalanced difficulty and the last boss.

Certain areas of the game are so full of health items that you can't really die unless you try really hard to on purpose. Other areas, on the other hand, have a serious lack of healing items, which is a problem when you have to deal with stronger enemies that cause more damage. The last boss is also not really great, as he can keep the characters stunlocked with his attacks, making the fight a chore.

More enemy variety throughout the game and more bosses would have also been appreciated, though the game is so fun that I didn't even really notice it until writing this review.

Easy recommendation, even at full price.
