Actually, I would want to give this a neutral, if steam let me.

If you want to pass a short time without much of a challenge, you will be happy with this game.

But all in all, it gets repetetive quite fast. Buy wares cheap, sell them expensive, have a trader to help you with the price. And well, extend your caravan and level up your heroes, in between follow the main questline, which is really unimaginative. After a while, the game ends.

You will not feel commited to this game, it's short and repetetive. Recommend to buy on advertisement if you really want to give it a try.

Story an.

Mal. Start und go.

Really overall a very addicting game, for the first seven hour or so. And then I began to find this game repetitive and it really could be shorter, In my opinion the fourth chapter is the least fun since the routes began to expand and made travel time longer for no reason. I'd recommend this game for those who have played games of similar kind, the game could really be shorter though...

The story is good and worth following, I had a lot of fun in traveling from city to city trading goods. Unfortunately the market is limited in individual actual value as the goods fall under a few categories on whether the city demands for them are high or low. Fortunately the market does change from time to time, so I wasn't to bothered and still had fun.
If you like playing games where the idea in an open free market where you sell high and buy low based on demand then you will enjoy this game.

(edited)

Okay in regards to combat fights and haggling, I would state the AI is more set to being random and not what would be in its best favor.
So no, the AI was not programmed to be very bright.

Someone had mentioned not knowing the NPC stats. For those of you who are going to attempt to haggle, there is a rank that appears around the NPC merchant, just don't attempt if your rank is below the NPC. This does not apply in events where you are attacked or choose to attack bandits, which I can appreciate as you are supposedly taking a gamble crossing the desert.

YANOGA REVIEW

GRAPHICS - ★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆
On the graphical side ''Caravan'' is quite mediocre. The backgrounds are cool and the atmossphere of a dune/desert is very refreshing. Sadly their are little animations and you should not expect a 'AAA- or even a AA'- Game.

MUSIC - ★ ★ ☆ ☆ ☆
Only one ''song'' which is playing in loop. Good for the first hour but outraging when you play this longer than that.

STORY - ★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆
Your hometown is buried under a sandstorm and you need to travel southern arabia to discover the reason for that. Not really what I would call a good story but I respect the idea.

GAMEPLAY - ★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆
Travelling and expanding your ''Caravan'' while buying items in citys to sell them in other citys for a higher price. Also you'll need to look for your water-reserves and survive/handle different random events. I like the unique idea of this game and it really got this ''One-more-Round''-Feeling for a couple of hours. Sadly their is no difficulty because you can see which city offers what for your items. Also the random events repeat themselves after 1-2 Hours. This downgrades an otherwise great idea.
Nonetheless does this game a few things very good (Battle-Mini-Game, Skills etc.)

WORTH BUYING - ★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆
If you want a merchant game in which you really need to plan your playstyle than ''Caravan'' will be too easy for you. I've played it while listening to some podcasts and doing some brainless trading. In this aspect ''Caravan'' could be an enjoyable experience. But wait for a Sale! Highest price you pay should be around 3€

LENGTH : 6-7 Hours

BUGS : None

PRICE : Paid 2€

DIFFICULTY : Brainless-Easy

FINAL:

71 / 100

Game mechs are quite simple if not shallow but I did like it all in all. Following main quest brings most money and experience, no need to spend much time on random encounters. Trading isn't very entertaining due to traders' scarce resources and small variety of helpful items for purchase but helps to raise funds for heroes upgrade.

This is an example of a game that just falls over the thin line to a positive review. It is a relaxing simple game. But it is also an example of a game where one plays until the end, but then realizes that one cannot finish it because of failing to do something early in the game, unknown at the time. I suppose one could then replay it and do what should have been done, but that would be another 10 hours sunk. The events are limited and become predictable by mid-game. Get it on a steep discount (USD1/1Euro). 60/100

Caravan, yep that's what it is I guess. A long haul through the desert.
There's a story in it. I think it's about the story, probably.
You trade some stuff, hire some folks.
Combat minigame, haggle minigame... kinda but not really.
Feels like this review, longer than it should be with a bunch of filler.
It's slow, it's a chill, relaxville situation.
It's a long haul through the desert.

Buy it on sale if you want to merchant about whilst you putter through the day listening to podcasts and tinkering with stuff.

Relaxing game, pleasant graphics, 10-15 hours story-driven adventure that will let you explore oriental desert.
You will manage your caravan, your character and 5 companions that can each get up to 6 auxiliaries, will let you control a huge group, travelling in a long queue of peoples and annimals.
It is very a basic but efficient gameplay, buy cheap, sell high you will travel, fight, negociate, accomplish quests and encouter various random event during your journey, it has no replayability once finished, and will end up being extremly repetitive after a will, but i personaly doesn't think it is as slow as explained in other review.
I ended up enjoying the game till i get all succes, good find for a little price.

This is a good Merchant style game. Its not overly hard but it likely helped that i was just enjoying making money at the beginning rather than constantly following the story line. The story itself is fairly simple. the over all system for bartering and fighting takes a bit to get good at but that isn't bad. once you get it down you can stratagize to some extent. over all as long as you buy low and sell high you will likely make money

On the plus side: I like the art in the game.

Unfortunately, the game play is extremely repetitive. The story couldn't be more linear. The player isn't allowed to make any meaningful decisions that would impact the story. Worst of all, the game isn't even a good trading game.

You are in charge of a caravan, tasked with completing a series of fetch quests while keeping financially solvent. The game consists of clicking on a city on a map, watching your caravan slowly move to it, buying the goods that are cheap in that town, selling the goods that are expensive, repeat. The storyline is linear and requires no input on your behalf, it just tells you which city to go to next. The sole challenge of the game is in managing your water supply and maintaining a large enough buffer to handle the random encounters, which either give you some resource or take it away.

This could be the foundations of a great game -- after all, it doesn't sound too different from FTL -- but there's nothing beyond this. Combat consists of dice rolls, there are no conversation trees to explore, no puzzles to solve, making money requires nothing more than patience. And patience is a must for this game, as every time you enter a city or random encounter you have to watch your caravan trail in for about three seconds before you can do anything, and when you leave you have to watch it trail out. There are no way to skip or speed up these scenes. And seeing how you can expect to see all the random encounters within the first half an hour of the game, it gets old real fast.

I wanted to praise the setting, as we don't get enough games (or any media) in the Arabian setting, but it really doesn't add anything but visuals. There is nothing to explore, nothing to roleplay, so you're never immersed into the role.

Caravan is a simple trading game with an Arabian Night story line to make it more tolerable. The game is really short and there aren't many features to marvel over. You play the role of a Caravan master trust into the fire by your royal parents who have more to hide than the world surrounding you: Typical.

The game play is very simple in that you have to buy various goods at cheap prices and sell them at exorbitant tags. Goods are divided into 6 colored categories to make comparisons easier and in general the trading exercise is a simple one that is only plagued by an excessive drag and drop user experience.

Trading being the main feature, travelling is the essential second and this is where the game has failed for me. Travelling can be summarized by the amount of water you'll spend and the limited amount of negative, frustration based, events along the way to your destination. Unfortunately the experience is just wasted on obvious cheats and hacks in an attempt to balance the game into something that it'll never be: Difficult.

Finally, it is worth mentioning that in Caravan you'll regularly fight opponents using an hexagonal board with dices. The dice game is not that bad. I have to say that if it wasn't for the obvious fixing of some encounters, if it was truly random, which I don't believe at all, then it might have saved whatever is left to enjoy. That said the game story isn't more than 10 hours worth so the design evolved from a decent proof of concept to a polished beginning to finish on a ridiculously long grind just to level up so you can fight enemies that have triple your stats.

At the current pricing I think Caravan is fair, but with roughly 10 hours, only extended by an upward curve on grinding, I can't responsibly recommend it. The same game with a better story and at least double the features would have made it a great offering.

Almost finished now. It will take about 10 hours to complete.

Simple trading game that gets boring fast. Only the completionist in me forces me to grind the final chapter. Story is hi-hum and not inspired to see the ending.

Trading is basic, combats and haggling use a unique system which also gets tedious and boring after a few hours. Game outstayed it’s welcome. Constant random encounters also slow down the game and limited number of them means repeat repeat repeat. Bleh.

4/10. Below average. Not recommended.

I was expecting a casual trading game, and indeed this was nothing more. Buy cheap and sell high. Travel with random events along the road, both bad and good. Complete quests for more experience and money. But.
  • When encountering enemies, you never know how strong your opponents are.
  • There is seldom an option before the fight to avoid it. There is no option to flee the combat.
  • Hirelings die like flies. My first mercenary was killed by a jackal's first bite (easiest enemy in the game)
  • Healing is available only in some towns.
  • Once you make the first step on a road, there is no way to turn back.

I stopped playing when I had to defeat some ghouls, but they were too strong. So I decided to advance to level 4. But the guild masters didn't offer level-up anymore, despite I had the required experience points.

Never thought that such a simple game would keep me interested for hours. I bought this game yesterday and I couldn't stop playing. Very interesting concept, but with a few flaws:

- Small pool of random name generator. It's very confusing to have your slave, random bandits, NPC merchants, and enemy djinn to have the exact same name.
- No manual save? The only time you can save the game (and it's auto save) is when you arrive at a city. Very inconvenient.
- Animations are a bit too slow. You can cut half the playtime just staring at your screen waiting for your caravan to arrive at a city and be able to interact with NPCs in it.
- Repetitive random events. It gets boring very quickly.

There are some more minor flaws but they aren't bothering me that much.
