Über das Spiel

Mars, 2044. The UN establishes MARSCORP (Martian Security and Economics Committee) under the leadership of Samuel Longwood. In the years that follow, the UN gradually loses control of MARSCORP, mainly due to the non-transparent licence policy of its director. Longwood uses his autonomous status to create vassal relations between the corporations and MARSCORP. The unshakable power position of MARSCORP is supported by the companies and thus they acquire additional rights and licenses. Longwood and his consortium become extremely wealthy from this arrangement. However, dissenting voices in MARSCORP begin to challenge Samuel Longwood's authoritarian policy. They demand his dismissal as director and a complete redistribution of the mining rights.
But Samuel Longwood keeps an ace up his sleeve for occasions like this?
Chaser awakens on board the spaceship H.M.S. Majestic. He doesn't know who he is, what he's doing here, why he is being sought by men in black uniforms and what they will do to him when they find him?
The player's goal is to find out who Chaser really is and why he is being hunted. The story leads the player from the H.M.S. Majestic to Montack City on Earth, then on to Siberia and finally to Mars, where the trail ends and hopefully the truth can be found.

Key features:

 • Based on Cauldron's cloakNT engine. Boasts state of the art graphical features and is perfectly suited for rendering large environments.
 • Authentic weapons: Nearly all the weapons in the game are modelled on real-life equivalents. The developers placed a great deal of emphasis on building detailed replicas.
 • Engaging storyline: In the search for his identity, Chaser becomes involved in a plot full of twists and turns.
 • Highly developed A.I.
 • Multiplayer support via GameSpy as well as dedicated servers.
 • Numerous multiplayer modes including teamplay modes in the style of Counter-Strike and Team Fortress as well as deathmatch and capture the flag.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2082120293

Lange Rede kurzer Sinn:

Was änderte meine Meinung es diesmal durchzustehen?

Thank god it's over. This is easily one of the most boring fps games I've ever played, AND IT'S SOOOO LONG. Like, this game should have ended 5-6 hours ago because dear god every second I was playing it I was wanting it to end but it just kept going and going gray corridor after gray corridor, awful cutscene after awful cutscene, it's torture. Don't play this game even if you're a fan of FPS games it really isn't worth it, this game is like a poor man's Red Faction but if it was developed in like 2 months.

chaser sucks

This game isn't just difficult, it's cheap and left to chance. I enjoyed it for a bit but getting instantly annihilated by enemies that just spawn in behind you is utterly absurd.

Plenty of potential; this could've been a really fun shooter, but achieves only misery.

Recommended for killing time in a long play, to say that being from the year 2003, it has potential and some unique items you dont find in other FPS of the similar kind, lots of features have been taken from other games like Half-Life, NOLF, 007, Aquanox and Unreal as being unreal in some parts so as from the movie 'Total Recall' but less in variety. However, it made a point and so it still is online and goes with good critics on this site though. There are several different and unique locations and some are real interesting while others are stretching out into the boring eternity, the architecture is good as long the levels are short but it goes only the lonely in levels where it does repeat and often you can get lost easily. The difficultly is tuff so thanks for the time compressing adrenaline option even tough it makes you more vulnerable too. Some parts arent real nor fair and you might tend to cheat when playing above the easy set. IE- having a boss which is shooting on you with a rail RPG, along with 6 sentries and spawning Ubersoldiers, you could lose your temptation to continue, not only for once. Anyway, I played it for 21 hours and seen all, good and bad, its not an overall highlight but got some good parts, so a must for cult FPS player but more for the old style edition.

I suppose there's a reason if nobody remembers this game anymore.

While it looks decent for its time (but let's not forget 2003 was just a year before Half-Life 2 and Doom 3), and there's a hint of Far Cry in the weapons and shooting feel, the game overall is about as bad as you'd imagine. From what I've seen, the story is what would happen if Deus Ex met Total Recall, but also forgot that things have to make sense. Levels are labyrinths made of rooms that all look the same, which reminds me of Wolfenstein 3D really. Enemies can tear you apart in seconds, and compensate their terrible aim and laughable AI by often spawning in your blind spots or outside the walkable areas. Also one mission had me use a sniper rifle to protect the slowest moving truck ever.

What's more, I can't even say it's so bad that it becomes good, because it doesn't quite reach that point. Rather, it's so mediocre that it becomes bad. There are far better shooter from its time. Check it out if you wish, but don't expect much.

Play this game back in 2003 or 2004 and lost my cd, couldnt find it until recentley just saw it in steam and was on a special, so obviously bought it to have in my collection. Had a lot of problems the game but I still enjoy that old fps games that you just have to save like every 2 min because at the corner your enemy respawn and kill you or you're stuck on the ground. Play it in hard and I got killed a lot. But in all is a good old game.

This game is fucking hell. You require sheer strength and iron will to beat this game on hard. If you fucking manage that like how i have you deserve a goddamn medal of honor. I never want to buy or see or hear about this fucking game ever again. I thought it was funny watching Inside Gaming beat it back in the day. It wasn't worth playing through myself. 10/10 i would absolutely recommend

Released in 2003, this is very much a classical FPS. For those that cannot look past dated graphics and old-style gameplay (for example grenades being considered weapons rather than a hotkey), this game is not for you. It is also a fairly long game- taking me almost 13 hours to complete on Normal difficulty

The plot of the game is… difficult to understand. You play as an amnesiac whom, after escaping to Earth, discovers that they are the legendary rebel John Chaser. Beyond that, and despite playing attention to every infrequent cutscene, I did not understand much of what was going on. John Chaser has little agency and spends most of the game being commanded by various criminal bosses. Whilst there are frequent betrayals during the story, they kind of happen out of nowhere during a cutscene. The lack of any explanation and agency resulted in me neither knowing nor caring about why Chaser was killing these people.

Gameplay is the best part of the game. Like many of the same genre, your character is a proverbial arsenal of weapons. The guns sound great and, at least in the earlier missions, create an impression of impact. Whilst not particularly futuristic considering the setting, there are several memorable guns that I enjoyed using. For some reason Chaser also possesses a slow-time ability. I do not quite know how that factors into the game’s lore but whatever. If you played this game, you would be forgiven for not realising that such an ability existed since the game never gives any indication that Chaser can bend space-time. In the later missions this ability is imperative to survive even a single encounter so one would think that the game would at least suggest it is there. While this ability is a standard time slow, whenever you use it, you get blinded for two seconds. It also recharges very slowly- a problem in the later missions.

A mark is its age is the game’s refusal to ascribe to modern gaming conventions like ‘fairness’ and ‘logic’. Difficulty in the game frequently flickers from easy to impossible at will. Sometimes the AI is brain-dead. Enemies would stand still not reacting as I shot them. If they react, their aim resembled the aim of a Stormtrooper as they fail to hit a stationary target from two metres away. On the other hand, the AI occasionally can be likened to a CSGO hacker. It is often that you will be one-shot by an enemy from across the map firing a machine-gun of grenades. I also encountered the occasional glitched invisible enemy. The level-design compounds this difficulty. The AI will almost always get the advantage of surprise over you as they snipe you from the most obscure angles. This results in levels basically being Chaser travelling from one ambush to another. You will die a lot, some of it will be your fault, a lot of deaths will not. For this reason, you must save constantly. Literally after every fight. Sometimes during.

Most levels follow the same format. Be commanded to go to a place. Kill everything in that place. While repetitive, this is fine as it is where the game is at its best. Infrequently, there are parts which deviate from this formula. Most… suck. Of special mention is the underwater section. That was hell to go through. During that level you must go from one tiny light to another whilst ignoring or killing hundreds of underwater turrets firing at you. The lights must be found in order and are often located far enough away from each other that it takes you ages to find. I would have just called this section boring if not for the fact that I had to take breaks because of how nauseous I felt. You are thus stuck trying to find a small light in the most illogical of places whilst fighting off turrets and sickness.

It should be said that there are some good levels. The Yakuza mission was great and, others such as the Mars assault, were very memorable. Despite being quite linear in nature, the maps gave the impression of being much larger. This is not a good thing. It is remarkably easy to get lost in the map and often the way to progress is completely illogical. Whilst I would not usually bemoan a lack of map, this game desperately needed one as none of the exits were signposted. You spend a good 20 minutes in every level running into doors until one finally opens.

Despite being quite critical of the game, I recommend it. While my 12 hours of gameplay were filled with frustrations, I must admit that I enjoyed myself. As horribly broken as the game was, it had a certain charm that I came to appreciate. As it was on sale, I got it for £1.12 and to get 12 hours of somewhat fun for that price is, in my opinion, a steal. I honestly and wholeheartedly recommend this game.

I also recommend that you keep a guide handy whilst playing because a good 40% of this game is getting lost.

A candidate for one of the most broken games of all time, with probably the most retarded level design I've ever seen. Chaser is a masterpiece of old shitty FPS games, the best one out there. I highly recommend this experience, it's one unlike any other.

So what makes Chaser stand out? Firstly, the AI can be described as a CSGO hacker that doesn't know to play the game. Enemies will know where you are before you even get there, they will frequently manage to hit you even when they're not aiming at you, they will crowd in front of doors and corners, surrounding you at all times, almost never missing a shot. Yet, they will still do the stupidest things imaginable. This includes, running into walls, glitching through the floor, aiming at the ceiling, firing a grenade launcher right into the wall in front of them, running to the closest point of cover, etc. Makes the game feel pretty cozy!

This is complimented splendidly by the game's poor gunplay. The guns in this game are all terrible! They are the worst guns you could ever use in any game, including real life. :) And even though this is a game set in the future, most of the guns are just your average real life guns, except shitty. Combine that with the worst crosshair and mouse sensitivity of all time, you will struggle to hit anything in this game. Even if you do, because the guns are so bad, you will take a lot more time to kill your enemy than you should, while they kill you much faster. The ammo drops are alright, but the armour and health drops just barely allow you to finish the levels. It gets super frustrating, so you have to quicksave after nearly every kill you get. Have fun!

There is a slow motion mode, which I call (from my memory of Inside Gaming's playthrough); Chaser mode. It's a slow-mo mode found in many shooters, except this one is distinct from the other ones by being useless. It shines a light on your screen that is equivalent to a flashbang effect, which blinds you for a good two-three seconds every time you use it. May I add, this does not help you aim at all. It just slows down time while the enemies comically stare you down, while shooting you from the most obscure of angles. Pretty good, eh?

Chaser is a very monotonous game. This is due to the reasons mentioned above, but also due to the mixture of three aspects; it's atrocious level design, constant glitches and bugs, and a very obnoxious (though kinda funny) soundtrack. The levels start off alright, there are some genuinely good ones in this game, like the Yakuza level. But they all follow the same formula. Go to a place, shoot everyone in sight, get lost for half an hour, shoot more enemies, get lost again, mission complete. In many levels, everything looks the same. The lighting is depressing, the environment looks like a simulator of a Slavic country or a crime ridden city in America such as Detroit or Baltimore. Otherwise, it looks like a futuristic toilet, some sort of square shapes with hammers and sickles on it, a scrapyard, a homeless shelter, an abandoned mine, a gulag, etc.

The graphics attribute to the fault of the level design. While this game looks pretty decent for the time, supporting 144hz and above for some reason, it also looks kinda shitty. Everything is grey, brown, red, black. Looks terrible! Another cool thing is that you can shoot your guns underwater, with no differences in the sound effects nor the visual effects. Very nice!

The animations in this game are pretty funny. In cutscenes, characters constantly move their eyebrows up and down, while phoning in their dialogue all the way from Sakhalin Island. A good example of how annoying the lighting can be in this game is the Mars prison level. Where everything is red and brown, all the while, the brightest, most shiny lights penetrate your vision constantly so that you can't even begin to tell where the enemies are.

To mention some of the worst levels in this game, I don't know where to begin. There is a level where you have to go through a great amount of homeless people at a port, after which you climb up unto the roof of a shack. Above that roof, lies a balcony. In real life, you would just use your upper body to lift yourself up and move on with your life. But seeing as we are playing a heavily disabled man named John Chaser, simple things don't come easy. Instead, we go all the way around. Then we go up this half destroyed set of catwalks and ladders, after which we slide down a vent, which leads to a set of stairs that takes us down, so that we could take the lift up to the roof.

After this are the worst parts of the entire game. You have to spend around half an hour escorting the slowest truck driven by Ivan Ivanovich the 99999999999th, watching him through this black and white scope, while he drives his truck and gets shot by the tinniest of enemies in this boring ass factory/city combination. Chaser then decides to jetpack himself into the ocean. Obligatory underwater level is the worst! You are constantly turned around or put upside down, all the while you're chasing the smallest orange orbs of light whilst being shot at by spiky underwater turret bots. This is split into three sections! For no fucking reason! It was a living hell to get through.

The final level was also complete nonsense. It took me a good 2 hours to complete. I was completely lost almost the entire time, which is strange, considering how linear this game is. In this level, you have to constantly glitch yourself through invisible textures (not for the first time either), and go into the most obscure corners that you didn't even notice. After all that, you have to do the impossible task of climbing up a ledge. I think it took me a good 20 minutes to do this. I managed to do it once within the first 5-10 minutes, but I was immediately killed. I had no idea how to repeat it for a while. But somehow, I managed it. Then a small number of 50 enemies will 360 no scope you with laser accurate grenade launchers. You just want the game to be finished by this point. This brings us to the story.

WTF is the story exactly? I don't know how to explain exactly what happened. The cutscenes are few and far between, most of them are just funny, and don't really explain much about the plot itself, nor the lore of the world of Chaser. John Chaser's voice acting is pretty good, if you are an invalid of some sort. But otherwise, it's just funny. I had a hard time taking any of it seriously. However, considering how abhorrent the level design is, you will be eager to watch one of these cutscenes. They're a break from the depressing and absurd existence of Chaser's gameplay. Chaser goes through a series of misfortunes due to his lost identity, with a series of betrayals and collateral damage along the way. He tries to find out who he is, and to defeat Mars Corp's head Longwood. After all of that getting shot at, he is told by Longwood that he is supposedly a man named Stone, whilst the real Chaser was dead all along. Some other guy tries to convince him otherwise. Chaser sticks to his guns, aiming one at Longwood. Both he and the other guy get shot. We don't know our hero's fate. If this was supposed to make us question identity, it failed. But it was pretty funny!

Overall, Chaser is a perfect game. It does what it set out to do. It is stupid, annoying, boring, frustrating, illogical, retarded, full of glitches and bugs, barely functions, is poorly balanced, has shitty level design, bad weaponry. But it is because of these issues that the game is worth playing. You don't get these kind of games anymore, where despite it being so bad that you wouldn't play this sort of game usually, it manages to be fun and enjoyable just because of how unbelievably busted the entire experience is. I had so much fun playing this game, that I missed it immediately after it ended. RIP John Chaser, I hope we have a sequel someday.

I give this game a 10 out of 9. If you can hold a gun, you're not dead!

For a game that came out in 2003, this is a very good looking game.

The weapon selection is cool but that doesn't stop it from being a extremely generic shooter.

I'd say it's quite a good old school FPS.

Pros:
 • Futuristic setting
 • Night sky
 • Ambient music
 • Realistic weapon models

Cons:
 • Somewhat monotonous gameplay and tasks
 • Enemy behaviour could've been smarter

I managed to beat the game in 20 hours on medium difficulty. Overall it's a great game with a few minor flaws. The questionable level design can make the game frustrating sometimes. I still had fun playing it. Steam should add more early 2000s FPS games.

This game did not age well unfortunately. Hordes of enemies attacking you without any explanation who they are and how they got there, weird mixture of real life and sci-fi weapons. The story makes you go from one end of a very big map to the other all the time, the world is not interactive, due to game mechanics and artificial limitations you can't get to places that look easily within one jump's reach. I was excited about it when it came out, but never had a chance to play it then, by now there's just too many way better games to spend time on. It's just not fun.

This game is dogshit trash. It's old and pretty busted. It's my junk food, but I don't recommend it to anyone. It's a complete rip-off of Total Recall, but with a much more confusing plot, much less recognizable characters, and the most abysmal pacing I have ever experienced. There are long periods of the game where you basically just sit and watch vehicles lumber around. I'm confused. I'm angry. I'm tired. I had an absolute blast, and I think there is something deeply wrong with me.

Bugs, chaotic controls (jumping) Lack of choice, disapointment all over. Good start but afetr missions changed from action game to soem bloody nonsense labyrinths in the middle of the game it bacame just suferring. And to what means? Story arc reflects the time this was created, but actual mindfuck doesnt happen. There is only one secret that remains now. WWhy the hell I spent so much time trying to finish this.

Old low-budget FPS game. Its not good, but not horrible either. For some reason I had some nostalgic feelings about and decided to play it again, why not?

It's 2020, and I just played and finished Chaser for the first time, despite its 2003 release date.

The first thing I should mention is that it works surprising well on Windows 10. However, you may hit a black screen bug during the intro logos, but all you have to do to avoid this is hit the Escape key enough times to get to the main menu. From here, everything else in the game worked fine for me.

This game is a classic, early 2000's FPS, so expect lots of medkits and armor pickups instead of any modern features like regenerating health. Saving is also handled manually, and quicksave is available.

As far as the guns go, many of the weapons in this game are guns that were popular in games of the time, like the German H&K G11 and the American OICW. You never really hear of these guns in real life nowadays, because neither went into active service in their respective countries. A lot of games in the late 90's and early 2000's used these.

As far as the gameplay goes, the majority of the game was a lot of fun, and was relatively well- balanced. The only rough spot was towards the end of the game, where enemies often wait around the corner with explosive ammo ready. I faced a lot of cheap deaths during the last parts of the game.

Overall, it was a great game for its time. You should give it a try if you just want something old, inexpensive, but still good to kill some time. For a linear FPS, it is incredibly long!

I haven't played the whole 14 hours the game was open, but even then I played a lot of it, the game is extremely long, playthroughs edited to not include getting lost, or deaths, last about 8 hours.

I managed to get to mars jail level and kinda gave up, the level design is horrendous, corridors stacked on corridors, stacked on corridors. Ever since the first level, you navigate copy pasted corridors till you begin to question your existence, although there are some exceptions with wider snowy valleys, empty city streets surrounding a building/compound, some basic garages or hangars, two different prisons, biggest ones for me are a japanese style roof garden, and an escape sequence in mars offices.

The game way too often felt tiring and unintuitive, I love when games like morrowind don't hold my hand too much, but walking in circles to find a small f*****ing button or a weirdly placed vent you need to crawl through, is a different thing, an especially annoying time waste is no way to see a difference between doors you can open, and those you can't, and with like a 2 second long doorknob animation before they open, it's all the more frustrating.

The shooting is very standard corridor peeking, I'd advise againt any difficulty higher than lowest, as it makes it all the more of a slog, you'd just peek more slowly and carefully, since the damage would just be higher, most likely making this long game eeeeeven longer.

I wouldn't have much of a problem with it if all those corridors and vents were much shorter, or movement speed much faster, the game is more of a tripe when you're hungry for FPS, rather than a delicious dessert.
There is also a lot of cutscenes, though the story is like a russian knock-off of a basic action movie.

I would summarize it with quantity over quality, there is a f*ck-load of fat to be trimmed, that would make the simple pleasures of mindlessly shooting baddies more enjoyable than tedious.

in all honesty, I have not beat this game yet. What I can tell you, is this feels like rush hour, 3035, but with a d list actors absolutely no one asked to be in showbiz. voice acting is horrible, the mechanics are a little clunky, the story is incredibly lacking, and the actual game itself is just non existent. This game has been the only game to make me hate games enough, I took a one year hiatus, and came back to it. still haven't beaten it, but I will update once I do. so far, not good.

Buy it cheap. Play on easy. Don't overthink it.
It's a somewhat broken but fun shooter. I say broken because the only way you're going to win in this game on hard difficulty is by savescumming since enemies shoot you with extreme accuracy and quick response times (poking your head for a millisecond will still get you shot).

Chaser is a really, really bad game. It almost seems to exist to show how awful and unpleasant an FPS can be when it's poorly designed. At a 16ish hour runtime (I haven't been able to bring myself to finish the game), you'll have a lot of time to thoroughly experience everything it does wrong.

Combat is extremely weak, with the only thing it has to stand on being the oddly large arsenal you have access to. Even this arsenal is subject to problems with some of its nonsensical bindings. The last assault rifle in the game is bound to 9, which is the same key used for the automatic grenade launcher. Damage output in general is ridiculously inconsistent, with enemies sometimes instantly killing you with a pistol and other times being unable to harm you with an assault rifle. They seem to be able to track you through walls and will ALWAYS hit you when you're within a certain distance. Healing is very rare, so have fun against the large armies of hitscanners in wide-open corridors.

Speaking of level design, it's weaker than that of Hunt Down the Freeman. Every level feels like either endless empty terrain or painfully long and empty corridors, often both in the latter half of the game. Most levels have no personality and nothing to distinguish them or make them interesting. You'll never have any battles more interesting than what you get in the first level. The game tries to mix it up with things like sniper missions (which last for an eternity) and underwater levels where you have pseudo-6dof, but these add very little in the long-run.

The game does have a couple levels that are okay. The levels in Siberia are the most tolerable in the game, as you're actually given weapons that are suitable for the open environments. There's also a level where you battle your way up a lighthouse that isn't bad. However, all the bad levels stick out so much more. The first level in the game is so painfully boring that it feels like a mistake not to refund the game right there. You go to mars later in the game, and it is potentially the worst FPS experience I've ever had. There's a level where you have to run from hitscanners down open corridors, another where you have to defend a door and wait minutes on end for enemies to attack, and one last level that's just an overly massive stretch of terrain that you have to walk across.

The game mixes up the environments quite a bit, but it remains visually bland the overwhelming majority of the time. The sewer level early on in the game nearly gave me depression because of how bland it was. Even when it does mix things up, it's going to stay that way for a while. Siberia and Mars were nice changes of pace at first, but then they kept going on and on.

Audio is weak in general as well. Everything feels so oddly quiet most of the time. Even when there's music (which is really the most notable audio in the game) it feels lifeless in terms of sound. I know it sounds strange, but there's something about the music that gives this game a dream-like quality. The voice acting is bad on top of all of this. The protagonist himself has the weakest voice acting in the game for whatever reason. He sounds like a robot failing to pretend to be a human.

This game is such an oddity to me. I would want to call it shovelware, but it really isn't. It's too long and there's too much effort put into certain things for it to be shovelware. There's a gigantic arsenal of weapons that all have unique animations, models, and sometimes alt-fires. Effort was actually put into making this game feel like a bit of a long journey as well. I think the developers actually cared and wanted to make the next big hit FPS, they just weren't exactly very good at making games.

Overall, just don't buy this game. It has aged poorly and offers nothing particularly interesting or good. There's other cheap FPS games that'll give you an exponentially more enjoyable experience for your hard-earned 5 (or fewer) bucks.

Chaser is a Bad Game.

I really don't like this game. Actually I take that back, I Fu*king Hate this game. This is certainly the worst game I've ever played and I am not over exaggerating.

The Story is boring, the Gameplay is boring, the Environments are boring and Uninspired. Everything about this game is Boring, Tedious, Irritating, and Frustrating.

I've tried to enjoy this game for what it is, but every time I've tried the game takes a big sh*t in my mouth then kicks my dog.

I definitely cannot recommend this game.
There are certainly better generic fps games out there to play than this one.
Sorry to anyone that likes this game or has Nostalgia for it, I just don't like it.
Story is ok, but writing is bad.
Voice acting from everyone aside from Chaser is fine, but Chasers voice is horrible (and not even horrible enough to be funny, just regular horrible).
Graphics aren't anything special other then a few weird bugs where sometimes the terrain will unload while your running around in it and you get the flashing render buffer thing like when you noclip in quake.

The game leads you through a bunch of different environments which is nice, but it also puts these absurd parkour jumps on the main path which you cannot get around and they are horrifically buggy at times, there was one place where i had to jump into a vent with some collapsed rubble partially blocking it.
Not only was that jump totally unrecognisable as a valid path (i had to find a walkthrough) but it was also so glitchy i died upwards of 10 times because it kept ghosting me through the floor and i fall to my death under the map.

The game is dragged out and not enough variation, you kill the same 3 enemies all game, dudes, exoskeletons (essentially just strong dudes), and turrets (dudes that don't move) that only ever had a MG, sniper or rockets.

One place in the game has you literally ride a train for something like 5 minutes, baffling design.

Don't ask me why i finished this game, i guess i have a soft spot for old school 'story' shooters like Deus Ex (which is a billion times better than this)

It's not so bad that noone should ever play it, but generally speaking, there's better ways to spend your time.
So I'm going to give this a VERY generous thumb up.

Flashback to the early 2000's: I am with my family, in a thrift store and I see this gem sitting on a shelf. It was at the same store I would buy Sonic R and a couple other classic titles so I decided to try getting my mother to buy it. Bringing it home and popping it into the CD drive, I didn't have the patience to try getting through the wonderfully glitchy (note the tone of endearment) and weirdly written game at the time. Flashback to today and I am almost 9 hours into the game and feel like it's still revealing some of it's best parts. Does it have an annoying water level sequence that could have easily been taken out of the game without ruining the story? Yes, but it's the journey, not a poorly designed level (out of many surprisingly detailed levels), that dictates a game's merit.

Is it worth $2.00? Yes. Was that what my mother payed those many years ago? Probably not.
