Crazy Machines 3 is probably one of the most whacky physics simulation puzzle games in existence.

This is for people believing the goat simulator too dumb and stuff like bridge simulator being too boring. And then it's also for pretty much literally everyone else, because it's just fun to make crazy things work.

The existence of Steam Workshop is basically providing nigh infinite content for this game.

Still playing through this game for achievements, but started using walk throughs around chapter 3 because god this game is awful. Was gonna go into more detail but Steam caps reviews to 2000 characters. So! TL_DR:

-Boring puzzle designs with often obvious solutions
-Selecting and placing objects is more difficult than it needs to be.
-Obnoxiously large snap grid, to the point that more complicated puzzles can’t be made.
-Made worse by ridiculously oversized collision boxes on objects.
-Finicky(but at least consistent) physics that make trial and error more common than it should be.
-Example of finicky; sometimes objects go into the Z-axis. I dont know why. But at least its consistent.
-Mini games are clunky and play like ass. I’ve made Unity tests that control better than them.
-Personally think the game is ugly. Also don’t make puzzles take place outside if they involve solar panels and light bulbs. I can literally see the reflection of the sun in them /s
-Paid game on PC, still has interaction reminder pop ups. This isn’t Google Play; don’t ask me to review your game and follow you on Facebook.

A couple positives cause why not:
-I chuckled sometimes at the level clear animations
-Acceptable amount of variety for tools available to make puzzles with.

Edit: Reviewed too early, it actually got worse. No wonder the base game doesn't have you rotating objects, the fishertechnik campaign has some of the worst UI, camera and selection management I have ever seen. Doesn't help that I never played with fishertechnik toys(?) and this game seems to assume you know how their connectors work. No effort was made to explain the UI for the connectors.

This game is a puzzle game in the sense that you are looking for what is allowed by its strange physics rather than actually solving a puzzle. Gears are placed in a grid which makes them really annoying to work with and collision makes no sense whatsoever. Things you'd expect to have collision don't have it and things you would absolutely not expect to have collision do have it.
First Impressions
It's been more than a decade ago, but in elementary school, I recall playing a game similar in general style to Crazy Machines 3 (CM3). Using various gadgets in conjunction with one another, the goal was to assemble complex gizmos, which were vastly over complicated ways of completing a simple task. My memory is quite incomplete, so I wouldn't know whether it was part of this same series or something else entirely, but there's something appealing about watching a chain of events take place. Putting that into a puzzle game where you have to make Rube Goldberg machines, where you have a hand in the complex designs is a fun idea, so I wanted to give CM3 a shot.
Gameplay
Although the machines that you'll construct can be pretty complicated, the gameplay itself is rather basic. There are 5 main campaigns, with a total of 117 contraptions to put together, and 1 other campaign made up of mini-games. The bulk of the puzzles are contained in the first pack, with 80 available. With how they're organized, it does a decent job of getting harder as you progress, though there were times where I could quickly figure out a higher difficulty puzzle, as it seemed pretty easy. This is probably in part due to how new gadgets are introduced, so there has to be a learning curve so you learn how it functions, such as the lasers. Aside from solving these puzzles or playing the mini-games, you'd have a sandbox available to build your own machines and create chain reactions with the range of items in CM3.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2326366247
Controls
Due to how the game is designed, it's controlled using the mouse, and by and large works as it should. I did have some issues though, as sometimes a gizmo or piece of it would be fickle and unresponsive. For instance, trying to select a gear so I could make an adjustment to where I placed it, or when trying to plug in an outlet. Also, it makes sense that there are pre-set objects which act as impediments to placing new objects, but sometimes this made it difficult to place something in the proper location because it had to be set up just right.
Story
Within the different themes for the puzzle packs, there's a simple narrative that works through the game. For instance, while solving the space puzzles, each one will focus on something related to outer space. Whatever the theme, you're assisting people who find themselves facing problems, from needing to find food, to wanting help transporting packages or trash. These are all explained with a few sentences as you load in each puzzle. There's not really much of a story in CM3, but this gives a small explanation for why you're trying to finish these incomplete oddities.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2326369110
Graphics
Aside from the clumsycorns and a few other basic figures, there aren't any characters or even living things in CM3. The people seeking your help are all off-screen, so the only things to display are the gizmos, gadgets, and devices used to make the machines. Everything looks alright, but the graphics aren't much of a focus in the game. They're clean enough to get the job done without looking horrible, and I don't see an issue with that. Additionally, the backgrounds are fairly simple, and can look so blurred that they're indistinct. Your focus won't often look that way though, as I only noticed when I looked at them for the review.
Sound Design
The soundtrack makes for good background music, as it's not overbearing or distracting. When I went out of my way to listen to it, I was surprised that the songs were lively with strong percussive elements. Some songs have a beep and boop sound to them, which suits the mad scientist (well, maybe grouchy) theme. There's not much for sound effects, but those that are needed sound fitting, such as the laser beams and explosives. When you speed up the action, some noises are kind of grating, but it's not that bad.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2326370895
Pros
???? It's really enjoyable when you can deduce what the intention of the puzzle is, how the pieces would theoretically go together, and with a bit of trial and error, work out the solution. Watching the machine do its thing is fun. These worked best when the system worked around a linear sequence. Sometimes though, I had no idea what the developers were driving at, and couldn't work out where to put the remaining items.
???? Some players made decent puzzles and contraptions in the workshop, but I'm not sure if it took off the way developers might have hoped for. When I tried playing around with making stuff, I found the controls kind of stiff and clunky since you had to work with them in three dimensions.
???? Speeding up and slowing down the mechanisms can help get you through the early parts you've already figured out and help you work out the physics or angles of more precise set-ups. Too bad there isn't a way to move it back and forth though.
Cons
❌ Although quite a few puzzles are well-designed, there were times that I solved a puzzle with leftover parts. I clearly didn't follow the developers' solution, but when that happened, I wasn't sure what they had in mind. There were issues in how intention was communicated to the player. However, playing earlier games in the series may have helped build a familiarity with the way these puzzles are meant to work.
❌ The mini-games could serve as a short time-killer, but they're not that enjoyable to play. It's a feature that would be more meaningful for someone who had very few games and wanted to get more playtime out of CM3. Otherwise, it's not something you'd spend time on.
Tips
???? Some parts will limit their placement based on their size or shape. A large laser beam will have to go in an open area, while an L-shaped pipe might fit snugly into an area with just enough clearance around it. Pay attention to anything that requires electricity or a plug-in, as that can also determine where they have to go.
???? I made an attempt at each puzzle, but I wasn't afraid to refer to a guide for the solution. Sometimes I just needed an idea of how something functioned, and then I could figure out the specifics myself.
???? Start each stage by hitting play just to see what happens by default. If pieces fall immediately to the ground, that's a good hint that they would either trigger something or need a platform to rest on.
Final Thoughts
If for no other reason, I wanted to play CM3 because I'd had it in my library for a few years, and knew that it wouldn't take too long to finish. I wasn't terribly surprised when I came across stumbling blocks that held me up from progressing, as methodical puzzles tend to be my undoing. However, a puzzle where you're able to move the pieces at your disposal with complete freedom, making slight tweaks and trying it multiple times was more engaging than I expected. Many puzzles keep you restrained in many ways, such as being unable to move freely or having to progress in a strict order, but it's not like that in CM3. Once you get to a puzzle pack, you can try them in any order you want, and being able to tinker with one area or a few gizmos at a time the way you want is refreshing. There are still parameters I have to work under, but it feels more natural picking up all the parts I have now, seeing how they interact, and making adjustments. For younger kids who show an interest in science, I could see this being a good choice, though I also enjoyed watching blocks fall over and balls following their guide rails. There's a few games in the series, but since they're all priced the same, I'd suggest going with this over its earlier iterations.

Crazy Machines is a very fun and creative physics puzzle game. You will build useless, but creative (what a surprise) machines. These machines are based on physical concepts and can be build with ropes, pistons, gloves, wood planks, etc. You can basically use every imaginable item.

There are plenty of prebuild levels which you can complete with the missing parts. You can also play workshop maps or build your own levels.

There is a lot to do. You will be entertained for a couple of hours.

A physics puzzle game where you assemble Rube Goldberg-esque contraptions. My issue is that it's grid-based and requires the right objects to be placed in the exact right location, and you're constantly fussing with how to snap things together into the arrangement the developers want you to snap them into, instead of just having fun throwing together weirdass contraptions. It'd be nice if it were a little more open and goofy instead of so strict.

Oh Crazy Machines how much i used to love you as a kid...

Sadly this game just is not fun at all.
I dont know if i am too old, or my taste in games has changed or what ever...

But i remember that puzzles in the Previous instances of the Game where actually difficult and had multiple ways to be solved. There where almost always extra parts, that where not needed for solving the riddles, but gave you options to find alternative ways.

This is gone in Crazy machines 3. There is always just one corecct solution, wich takes up all the available items.
The game is basically filling in blanks of a contraption that someone build before.
I remeber in the previous parts, there where levels wich just had one ball and a rocket on the other side, and the whole rest was up to get to work with your available ressources. This was actually creative and challenging. now its just mindless gap filling.

also whats up with the backgrounds?
You can never tell what is part of the level and what is just random backround clutter.
Very much liked the old games better, where everything on the screen was relevant to the level and not just pretty textures.

for me there is no more fun to have here, so i sadly have to dislike the game.

It's kinda tedious the way they want me to do precisely what they envisioned. It doesn't give me freedom to think or be creative - every object has a pre-determined place, and you can't put objects in any other way but the one game lets you.

You can't rotate the objects, leave out the part or put parts the way you want to (even slightly off)... You don't get to envision the solution by solving the level with some freedom. What's worse, objects are hard to click, everything is in the way, and you're basically just filling the missing pieces. This is not fun for me.

Creative game means you get to 'create' something, or make it different. Plugging in holes is not my definition of creative. The only thing that seems good is that you get to create your own levels by going into the 'Invent' feature of the game. Maybe some day in the future I'll give it another go :)

Its like a child fantasy as a kid when you wanted to line up different objects see what happens if you did this or if you did that except now you dont have to face consequences from your mom and get away with it :D

This is the best puzzle game I've played. The creativity that went into making this game is what really makes it stand out, and the puzzles are at the perfect level of difficulty. The music in the game took me by surprise. It's perfect background thinking music.

If you were the kind of child who has sat knee deep in Lego making spaceships and buildings or were found surrounded by the guts of a clock looking up at bewildered parents. Crazy Machines 3 will engage you for a long time to come, if for no other reason than so you can work out new and interesting ways to shoot pigs on skis into space!

Older The Incredible Machine were more rich in content and nicer to look at. This 3D thing does not go well for the game series. It's 2D physics afterall! Most puzzles are easy and some require not logic but placing object in very exact spaces with non-helpful grid, which is not fun. Parts roster is shorter and some parts are working clunky - esp. gears.
So maybe on mobiles this is okay, but for PCs - I'd recommend revisit original games: The Incredible Machine.

In theory, Crazy Machines 3 should be a lot like CounterAttack to me, nostalgic, and yet there’s something crucial missing from the game. While CounterAttack is an earnest encapsulation of the genre within an indie package, Crazy Machines 3 feels soulless. The graphics are ‘fine’, the physics engine is ‘mostly reliable’, and yet… it feels so empty, so sterile, so abstract… this feeling isn’t aided by the inclusion of crossover levels based on https://youtu.be/b_8hMoq05XU" target="_blank"> real Fischertechnik toys, or an awkward selection of minigames, half of which don’t even work right , and even those that do work properly aren’t fun by any means. It has so much going for it, a decent number of campaign puzzles, along with a robust level builder and plenty of workshop content, but there just isn’t anything, or at least nothing positive, that gives Crazy Machines 3 a sense of identity, which leaves it a hollow and indistinct entry in the genre. If you’re really into the genre, it’s ‘ok’, but regardless, I can’t earnestly recommend it.

I remember The Incredible Machine from way back in the day, and this is that concept but with better sound, music, physics, and graphics.

There are TONS of scenarios to solve, the solutions are not obvious, and I feel dumb as often as I feel smart while playing.

I love the challenge, but I especially enjoy finding solutions to puzzles which, at first glance, appeared impossible. Highly recommended.

Game is basically 'put the pieces in the EXACT spot the devs want'. You don't even get a rotate, there seems to be only one way to win each stage. I'd steer away from this, apparently the original is better.

If you can forgive the game for not having customizable keyboard/mouse mappings and the UI being a bit confusing at times, this sure is a fun puzzle game! For all those who liked The Incredible Machine in the 1990's, a proper contraption-doohickey-physics puzzle simulator. 4/5

Crazy Machines 3 is an outstanding thinking game that is funny and offers a lot of variety.

The worlds are clearly different, but if the choice is too small, you can create your own levels and even modules to place, there are hardly any limits to creativity.

Crazy Machines 3 has potential but feels very unpolished. It is not bad game at all but definitely misses better level design and progression system. I played main campaign and only few levels were great and challenging. Some levels felt so unrewarding eg I completed many just by coincidence or mistake because level design allowed it. In some you have to guess target position of items moving them by 1px just so the game is happy... Levels difficulty is another pain in the ass with so many filler levels. And you know there is some fundamental design issue when the last 10 levels are easier then half of the game.
