The game from the German development studio Crytek makes a wonderful impression for a game from 2007 in terms of graphics and self-determination in its doing and leaving.
The single player shooter is a lot of fun, especially with the well implemented idea of the nanosuit, while the story is characterized above all by the unexpected change of direction.
The relatively short employment time this game offers is not noticeable due to the other qualities of the game, which draws one under its spell.

I would suggest waiting for a deal though, just based on the age of the game and the current price,
which seems a bit ambitious. Despite being 13 years old (OMFG) it will run sweet & still look pretty with
today's standards. Enjoy folks :-)

Additionally, the devs tried REALLY hard from day one to kill the online for this. It is VERY dead, requiring extensive mods to play online at all due to developer negligence.

Yes apparently it can.
i5-8400
GTX 1060
8GB RAM.
A great fps from 2007 which holds up really well today 13 years later with some stunning graphics, accurate shooting and pretty ruthless enemy A.I.
Using the cool nano-suit powers makes you feel like the predator as you turn invisible, flank the enemy and then blow them all away before they even knew you were there. At times the enemy actually seemed to act like they were afraid as they ran to cover and shouted when their team mates were killed.
The way you interact with the world also feels great as everything reacts to physics including enemy vehicles, objects in the environment and debris from buildings as they explode around you. You can pick up a guy by the throat and throw him off a cliff so it earns extra points for that.
HOWEVER! I made it to the final boss in the game and saved in case i died and the game crashed. This was the only crash i experienced in my nearly 20 hours of playtime.
Now when i try to load the save the game crashes in the menu.
So i guess i beat the game.....yeah fuck it, i beat Crysis.
Well worth picking this up especially in a sale and i'm pretty sure most modern computers will run it well despite it having a reputation as a PC melter.

Crysis is an enthusiasts game and should be treated as such, to get the most out of it you are going to need to get into editing .cfg files and messing around in the engine, not for everyone but for those who enjoy that the possibilites are limitless. It is a shame the original Crymod website is no longer up but if you look for it there is a plethora of gameplay, graphics, ToD mods etc... I recommend Rygel textures, GoC(Gears of Crysis 3rd person mod) right off the bat, don't forget to enable Suit Shortcuts in gameplay settings.
Graphics can be customized to run on your PC, everything has tweakable variables in the .cfg files, sound files can be modded too. My favorite ToD is Real Lifesis 2(Reli 2) with my own custom tweaks. Check out Xzero's work on shaders, I advise against installing some mega shader pack as that can make the game look ridiculous in a weird way very fast, you need to understand what and why you're tweaking it first.
Crysis pioneered many graphics effects that have become the standard for modern video games, object motion blur, crepuscular rays, ambient occlusion, parallax occlusion mapping, subsurface scattering, volumetric clouds, depth of field, dense vegetation with physics, many games are still catching up, all of this in 2007. Don't listen to any fool who calls this game unoptimized, yes it does have performance issues but to criticize it's performance undermines the technical masterpiece it truly is. Crysis was designed for an alternate reality of future PCs where cpu clocks were around 8ghz+ instead of 3.2ghz with 16 cores, when it came out most people barely had dual cores. Obviously it is not perfectly optimized for your modern PC, you have to remember the engine graphics were absolutely revolutionary for the time, so revolutionary my high school class mates literally thought my screenshots of the game were fake and it was impossible for a game to have such amazing graphics let alone run on a PC, all on my single 8800gt :D WIth that said it is completely playable on an OC'd cpu, aim for 5ghz, Warhead runs at a solid 60+.
For me, Crysis died after the first, 2 and 3 are not fun in the same way, I don't recommend them.
The campaign is a blast, you can attach c4 to turtles and strength throw water melons at enemies heads, that's all you need to know.

1. Game crash when launching. You have to do a lot of thing is order to run it.
2. Does not support 1080p. You have to look online for the fix.
3. The first cutscene I get stuck in black screen then after fixing that I can only see white screen but I was able to move forward gaming.
4. Customers should not have to do any of the fix. If you are selling old games to modern machines make sure it's running properly.
5. It's installing old software like gamespy comrade which is difficult to uninstall btw.
If you're okay with tweaking just to play this game then go for it but prepare to be frustrated. It's hard to recommend this game.

When Crysis released back in 2007, I did not know much about it, as I did not care about new releases at all. However, the strange, advanced looking suit on the box caught my eye, and I had to get it as soon as possible. It turned out that I could not even launch the game, as my graphic card was too weak. “But Can It Run Crysis?” was a popular joke among the community, but for me, it was a harsh reality. However, once I was able to play it, I immediately fell in love with its visual presentation, gripping campaign, and fascinating multiplayer. The question is if Crysis can still hold up to this day? It certainly can, but it has its shortcomings.
Story
An American team of archeologists discovers ancient alien machines on Linghsan Island. However, North Koreans capture them shortly after the discovery, and they cut off the islands from the rest of the world. You play as Nomad, a member of the dispatched Raptor Team, who wears a technologically advanced Nanosuit, which gives him superhuman abilities, such as invisibility or strength. Your task is to evacuate the archeologists and secure any valuable information. Once you get onto the island, you find out that some of these machines are still functional and not that happy with your presence, so they turn small skirmishes between Americans and Koreans into a massive slaughterhouse.
While the game’s plot is serviceable and a bit intriguing from the start, it does not have any interesting characters. The North Korean antagonist is forgettable, and your fellow team members are no better, as there is no depth or proper character development. And that is a shame as the game occasionally forces Nomad into interaction with them, yet I have not managed to care about them at all. The positive aspect is that the story does not pretend to be smarter than it actually is, and it does not interrupt you from gameplay. Its narrative is simply about a group of American soldiers fighting Koreans and Aliens, and that is enough for this kind of game.
Gameplay
To my surprise, I still enjoyed the twelve hours long campaign a lot. The game has several levels, and most of them are pretty open, which allows you to choose a path and style that suits you, as the game only shows you your objective on the map. There are occasional side objectives, which can either help you with your mission or give you additional information about the story. You will go through dense jungles, beautiful beaches, rocky mountains, vast plains, and several industrial complexes, so the levels are pretty varied. That variety is one of the reasons I enjoyed replaying the game so much, as each mission is different and offers something new and unique. There is not much time for sightseeing, though, as Koreans have a lot of military camps and patrols in the area, and they also can call for reinforcements.
You can use vehicles to travel through these open locations. Several civilian cars are drivable, as well as Humvees, military trucks, and even tanks. You are not limited only to ground vehicles, as you can use boats and even pilot a VTOL in one mission. All vehicles are easy to control, and using them against your enemies is both advantageous and enjoyable.
As mentioned before, you are wearing an advanced Nanosuit, which makes you more effective in combat. You have four Nanosuit modes to choose from: an armour, which makes you more resistant to damage; invisibility for stealthy approach; strength for higher jumps, bashing through the walls, and picking up and throwing heavy objects; and speed for your overall movement and weapon handling. Those abilities draw power from your suit’s energy, which recharges after a while. Switching suit’s mods often is essential, and changing your position in a blink of an eye while causing mayhem among Koreans is just entertaining.

Your weapon arsenal is pretty standard for this genre, as there are a few assault rifles, shotgun, submachine gun, as well as few interesting pieces, such as minigun or Gauss rifle. Lethal grenades, rocket launchers, or flashbangs and smoke grenades are present too. What makes Crysis a bit unique is its weapon customization, where you can add several attachments without pausing the game. That is a feature I wish was more common today. You can find weapon attachments at enemies or their camps.
As there are quite a lot of explosives, you might be asking if the environment is destructible. Well, partially. A lot of enemy towers, bunkers, and civilian shacks are destroyable, and their debris might hurt or kill your enemies. Unfortunately, some buildings might be destroyable only via a scripted event or not at all. However, grabbing poor Korean by the neck and throwing him against obstacles is satisfying enough to make it up for it.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2227912178
Your enemies consist mostly of Korean soldiers, who will use every abovementioned equipment and vehicles against you. I must say that I still had a lot of fun fighting them, as they are pretty aggressive and try to use the environment to their advantage a bit. Of course, their AI is a bit outdated for today’s standard, so you can sometimes confuse them if you spam explosives in their camp or shoot at them from hundreds of meters, even on the highest difficulty setting.
Another part of the game is fighting against the aliens. That is different than fighting with Koreans, as they have an octopus-like appearance, and their movement is pretty fast and a bit unpredictable. There are several types of aliens, from small ones who can jump several meters away, to bigger ones, which fly around the sky. There are also a few bosses. However, as much as I like that fighting them feels different and requires a different strategy than with Koreans, I do not like that the whole game becomes a lot more linear once aliens become regular enemies. While the first half of the game shows me all the possibilities and says: do whatever you want; the second half of the game strips that off and says: go straight and shoot. And while I still enjoyed missions with aliens, I cannot help but feel a bittersweet taste from playing it.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2227981328
This game also offers a sandbox editor, where you can create custom maps and scenarios pretty easily. As for the multiplayer, which I loved when the game was released, I have not managed to find populated servers. The best I could find was only with three players at the same time.
Audiovisuals & Performance
Crysis still offers pretty visuals, tons of small details, and beautiful sceneries. It is definitely a bit stunning compared to other games that were released back in 2007. The soundtrack can create an immersive atmosphere, but it is not something I would listen to regularly. An interesting addition is that Koreans speak in their native language on the highest difficulty setting.
The game was tested with an i5 8300H, GTX 1060 6GB, and 16GB RAM, running at high settings at 60 frames per second, at 1920x1080 resolution. There might be a problem with launching the game on Windows 10, so I advise to use this guide. Fixing this problem takes about two minutes.
Conclusion
Even after all these years, the first Crysis still manages to provide an enjoyable singleplayer experience with enough variety with each level. While it has its shortcomings, it is definitely a game first-person shooter fans should give a try if they have not yet.

In any other case, you're better off picking a different single player shooter. The game aged like milk. Any challenge is stripped away by the hilariously bad enemy AI. That only applies to human enemies however, as any other ones are just kinda fucking annoying.
Once the enjoyment that the game's few gimmicks provide wears off, you're left with what a pretty whatever shooter - the enemies are dumb and boring, and you can go invisible. Few other games allow you to see a chicken thrown at a wall, followed by a wrecked shack and an intact bird, though.
There is some dopamine in here. Maybe not that much, but enough.
Get it on a sale if you're either feeling nostalgic, or if you missed the era of Crysis being relevant.

The game is lags on modern PCs. You must install 5 more 10+ y. o. apps so that game can actually start. Will it really start? No, the next step is fixing black screen on loading screen and random crashes and trying to set the resolution to Full HD. Wanna more than Full HD? You gotta google even more

- Requires more thinking than a regular linear shooter. You have to plan each mission
- More difficult in Normal mode than other shooters I've played. Enemies are aggressive and relentless.
- Game changes a lot when you learn to use the cloak power effectively. I played without using it for quite some time and it felt a lot more difficult
- Learning to use the Suit cleverly is fun.
- Last part of the game is buggy and much more linear than first 70% of the game.
Overall, the game is one of the most fun and immersive shooters I've played. Looking forward to play the rest.
