In Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc schlüpfen PlayStation Vita-Besitzer in die Haut des absoluten Durchschnittsstudenten Makoto Naegi. Es gelingt ihm irgendwie, auf der prestigeträchtigen Hope’s Peak Academy aufgenommen zu werden, die für gewöhnlich nur den ultimativsten und klügsten Köpfen des Landes vorbehalten bleibt. Als Makoto und die anderen Studenten eintreffen, müssen sie plötzlich feststellen, dass sie von der Außenwelt abgekapselt und den Launen eines mörderischen kleinen Bären namens Monokuma ausgesetzt sind. Der hinterhältige Bär hetzt die Studenten gegeneinander auf und verspricht demjenigen die Freiheit, der einen seiner Kameraden ermordet. Es ist am Spieler, herauszufinden, wer Monokuma wirklich ist, warum Makoto aus seiner gewohnten Welt gerissen wurde und letztendlich das Geheimnis der Schule aufzudecken.

Wettstreit um die Beliebtheit: Studentenkameraden müssen auf die Seite des Spieler-Charakters gezogen und es müssen ihnen Informationen entlockt werden, um herauszufinden, wer ein Täter ist. Hierbei kann der Druck auf Verdächtige durch Timing- und reflexbasierte Spielmechaniken erhöht werden. So rettet man die eigene Haut und deckt außerdem die Wahrheit auf.

Anime war Top, das Spiel ist noch viel besser!

A very mixed bag but still ultimately a solid game. The first few chapters may throw a few people off, but the later chapters make up for it. The class trial is easily the best part of the game and be challenging during some moments which makes for splendid gameplay. However, the Closing Argument of the class trial is SUPER flawed as it becomes an absolute chore to figure out where the circles go in the respective places. Both the panels and circles provide barely any info in some trials making this part confusing. Final Strike can also hurt players eyes during the later chapters as the white dots can move pretty fast.

Free Time is also a mixed bag as all characters have different lengths of report cards, making some take a while to do over others; but this isn't sooo much of a problem in the games secret mode. You also HAVE to give them a present if you even want to max out their report card.

The secret mode is a neat concept but poorly executed and results in it being very boring but this mode is the only chance to max out all reports cards for every character. It is also pretty strange that you have to spend coins in order to unlock Extras (CGs, music tracks, artwork, etc.), forcing you to replay Class Trials several times making this a slow process for anyone wanting to achieve 100%.

As I said earlier, the first 3 chapters (personally) are dull and uninteresting, which can make some drop the game entirely. A specific character that I won't mention is completely ruined for the most outrageous motivation in their case. Most of the characters that die in the first few chapters are boring and lack any depth, but I will admit that the culprits executions are very well done. However, the game takes a HUGE leap from dullness and goes into astounding territory at around the second half of the game. Despite some being a tad predictable, the twists are much better and the motivations make a lot more sense. The atmosphere gets a lot more intense and almost all characters are given great amounts of depth during this part of the game.

Other than that, the art style is spectacular and the soundtrack fits the games atmosphere. The game obviously leaves on a cliffhanger and am intrigued on what V2 brings me. I would ultimately give this review a MIXED rating but there isn't an option for that and I believe the second half of the game plus the other pros makes up for it not giving me a negative review.

After playing sequels, I truly realised that this game is one-time experience. Characters, atmosphere, music - it can't be recreated again, only imitated wuth varied success. So, when you start your first playthrough, try to enjoy every second of it

one of my favorite games ever
Has amazing story, characters, writing, music and pretty much everything
It was a very emotional experience that was perfect for how observant i am in games, looking for clues, hints and questions
it had a bunch of amazing plot twists and the series in general is great and id really recommend it
also it made me cry in the shower one time but we dont talk about that

Hmmmm.

I must say - this was a very good game. A lot of reading as the class trails are the only things mostly voiced but it has Yakuza-esque noises when people speak at the start (though they speak words in this and not grunts and grumbles like in Yakuza).

Kyoko best girl. Yasuhiro best lad.

9/10 game. Loads of plot twists. I couldn't even keep up sometimes due to the plot twists. My mind was just as boggled as the characters. Been a long time since a game had me on the edge of my seat like this.

Ending was a little anti-climatic though for my personally. I mean, it wasn't bad, but I just expected a little more and for anybody who's finished the game, they'd probably know what I'm talking about.

Never thought I would enjoy visual novels but this series was one of the first that I played. I enjoyed the story and love the mystery for each act/chapter in the game. I wont spoil what the game is about but you are in for one heck of a ride when playing this game going in blind. Have fun!

This game sparked my love of Danganronpa and it is without a doubt one of my favorite games. I guess I could go so far as to say it -is- my favorite game. I've put 152 hours into the game, I've completed all the achievements. I've been through every game in the game universe. There is Danganronpa 2, Danganronpa Another Episode, Danganronpa V3 and then the anime. I've collected different things from this game. I can't recommend it more. It's hard to define but

This is a murder mystery game. It's deep, chilling and brutal at times. You have to collect evidence and then present it at the class trial, convicting one of your classmates and the trial is rife with things you need to do in order to succeed. You have a trust meter. If it runs out, your classmates no longer believe anything you have to say. I highly...HIGHLY encourage you try it. This one game I bought on a whim, captured my heart. So yeah, of course I'm going to give it a massively positive review!

Great game. I liked the story and I'm so glad I gave it a try. It took me a while because I wasn't sure how to feel about it but I'm glad I gave it a chance and I wish I had way sooner.

I just beat this game a week ago and, WOW. It was amazing. From the mystery to the crazy situations that happen around Hope's Peak, this game does it all for me. The only problem I have with it is I wish they gave you more free time, So I didn't have to spend all that time in school mode. Other than that this is one of the best games I have ever played.

I never wanted to stop playing this game. I was always at the edge of my seat so interested in seeing what happens next, and was always pleasantly surprised.
Except for the first death, that was just a disappointment. Lets ignore that one.

To answer the most important question right off the bat, did I enjoy my time with this game? Yes, tremendously. If you're at all into anime style, story heavy games (such as the Ace Attorney or Persona series) then don't read any more reviews, buy this game, lock yourself in a secure location to avoid spoilers and don't come out until you've finished it. This is absolutely one of those games which can only be enjoyed to it's full potential on a completely blind playthrough.

If you're still not convinced this is for you, I'll go a little further. (A warning that this will go into light spoilers for the overall structure of the plot)

One of the main draws here is a fast paced, well crafted mystery story, presented in a visual novel format and accompanied by mini-game sections called 'class trials' where you put all the pieces of the puzzle together and try to solve a series of murders (in my opinion these immensely satisfying, mystery solving, gameplay sections are where Danganronpa truly shines). Much of the excitement comes from the premise of the story: a killing game where the students must murder one another and avoid being found out to escape being stuck in an eternal prison. Typically, I find gimmicky narrative hooks like this are often exciting at first but may end up having a disappointing conclusion or a weak 'evil mastermind' reveal at the end. Thankfully, this didn't seem to be the case here. The pace doesn't drop one bit near the end and I found the answers to all the mysteries the game had presented to be satisfying and well thought out. In fact, all of the murder cases here were extremely clever and fun to solve bit by bit. There was only one instance where I felt a clue gave too much away and killed the hype a little by making it obvious who the culprit was. However, even that case had more to it than I initially suspected, keeping it fresh and exciting regardless.

I found the music as well as the overall presentation and visual style to be a pleasant surprise too. The game had some very dark moments but was saved from falling into the trap of becoming too 'edgy' by elements of silliness in the tone which were mostly thanks to the executioner being a murderous talking teddy bear who was easily one of my favourite parts of the game. The story also benefited greatly from having a vibrant and diverse cast of characters, few of whom I really disliked. Even those I did had very little negative effect on my enjoyment of the game. The different personalities and hidden backstories to uncover kept me guessing throughout as to who could be the next killer and who would be their victim. Each time a character you like dies, it's heartbreaking and each time your favourite turns out to be a killer it feels like a terrible betrayal. It's fantastic stuff.

Yes, the game isn't without it's flaws. It suffers heavily from overused flashback syndrome and a few generic anime tropes (we came frighteningly close to a bathhouse peeping scene) but even these did nothing to significantly change how consistently fun and engaging the game was. I beat it over the course of just three days because I didn't want to play anything else, the story was so good. I'm looking forward to checking out the bonus mode which, from what I understand, contains numerous collectables and extra scenes to unlock with all the great characters I've come to know over the course of the story. I'm glad it's there but honestly the main game alone is well worth it, even at full price. I can't wait to try out the other games in the series!

Danganronpa Trigger Happy Havoc, a visual novel about a funny bear trapping students in a life or death game. It's a rather disturbing experience, as you progress the plot thickens and most stuff starts making sense. You can get attached to some characters so it makes it hard to see them die. And the atmosphere really makes it clear about how horribly bizarre things are, the class trial gameplay is easily the best part of the game, you read a lot of weird/funny dialogue with a really good soundtrack and distinguish cast of characters with solid voice acting. Investigating is very interesting (except for chapter 1... quite stupid case) and overall and an interesting plot to unfold.
Although, again interesting story, it has his issues. Like sometimes the logic doesnt make sense or does not clarify everything, like the ending or some details in the chapters, and ffs the protagonist is a fucking dumbass, sometimes he acts dumb and then all poetic and sometimes outright forced by the storyline to take dumb decisions. Hopefully those missing details gets resolved in the sequel but other than that it was fun to watch. But you know what's not fun to watch, controls being fucky, like everytime getting into help because the menu is F1 not Esc. key, and Bullet Time Battles can be frustrating to play. Also what is up with the audio balance again good soundtrack and all but sometimes the music was louder than the voices, even if you lower it at the settings it felt like it didn't change.
Kind of annoying faults however it was a hell of a ride to play this and i hope the sequel can clear things out... and the bear is funny.

I recommend not to search any character or even the name of the game to avoid spoilers.

Basic:
Danganronpa Trigger Happy Havoc is a murder-mystery game with a focus on deep Story.
There are 3 main games and 1 spin-off game. This is the First one to start with.
You can expect about 40 to 50 hours in this game (depending on how fast you can read and think)
I recommend reading all dialogue and not skipping any cutscenes.
The overall gameplay is simple and hard at the same time, but I bet everybody could play it.

Story: (Spoilerfree/no spoiler)
The game is about a bunch of Students who were being dragged into a Killing Game.
The only way to escape is by killing another Student and getting away with it.
You'll learn more about it while playing, there are a bunch of unsolved questions in the beginning.

Gameplay:
The gameplay is mostly divided into 2 different Parts: typical visual novel gameplay
(freetime use and social interaction) and the Class Trials. In these class trials
you have to solve some Minigames but mostly try to discover the Murderer (or imposter if you played Among us).
The class trials are definitely the best Part of the game and you can be hyped about each of them.
Before each class trial you have to do some Investigation about the Murder and during that time you can
theorize who it was and how they've done it.

Characters:
The characters in this Game are as different as they can be. I bet you'll have different favourite ones.
All I can say is that you'll learn to love each and everyone on their own way.

Buy Recommendation:
Do I recommend everybody to buy this Game? No. If you are getting bored because you mostly
only play Shooters and MOBA's, I dont think you will enjoy this Game even if I did. But to everybody else
who enjoys mystery games like Ace Attorney or even mystery/detective shows I highly recommend buying this game
and try it out. You'll enjoy it!

As I said try to avoid any spoilers. So dont look in the Steam Workshops etc.

Base game was very enjoyable despite the fact it made my brain feel like it was running on Windows 98 half of the time. I would give this game a solid 8/10 until I found one minor, no, major mistake Spike c0cksoft made when developing the game. They lived up to their name and made my c0ck soft when they did not add Junko to the school mode. I've never felt a more painful sensation of blue balls in my entire life. Honestly you can start calling me papa smurf at this point. I think I may need a testicle transplant. Or two. 5/10 game.

Great game, amazing story and characters. Have fun crying over your favorite character dying, I know I did! Here's a cake recipe to help you feel better.

1 package white cake mix (regular size)
1-1/4 cups water
1/3 cup canola oil
3 large egg whites
1 cup coarsely crushed Oreo cookies (about 8)

FROSTING:
1/2 cup shortening
4 to 4-1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
1/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Whole and crushed Oreo cookies, optional

In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, water, oil and egg whites; beat on low speed for 30 seconds. Beat on high for 2 minutes. Gently fold in crushed cookies.

Pour into two greased and floured 9-in. round baking pans. Bake at 350° for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pans to wire racks to cool completely.

For frosting, beat the shortening, sugar, milk and vanilla in another large bowl until smooth. Spread frosting between layers and over top and sides of cake. If desired, decorate the top with whole cookies and the sides with crushed cookies.

A classic and great visual novel, Danganronpa combines sometimes dated or janky looking yet still eye catching and gruesome visuals, a very well written storyline and a great OST. By the end of the game many of the dialogue will feel iconic, and almost all of the characters will be very well fleshed out and enjoyable. This leads to the class trials, which is the bulk of the action you're getting all being very enjoyable and making you feel emotionally attached to the outcome and invested in the mystery.

While the UI and some of the assets show the age of the game, they do not really hold the game back. They're more than good enough, and do not hold back the player. And while some of the class trial minigames can be painful, they're packaged with a fantastic OST which makes them far more enjoyable than they might be without them. The OST in general does a lot of the atmospheric heavy lifting, providing gruesome tunes, exciting beats and anxiety inducing background music when it's needed. The executions are also all thrilling and one of the best parts of the game.

The main story of Danganronpa is mostly linear, but there are many side conversations which are all very enjoyable and provide much more details about the characters, sometimes even making it possible to predict things and making the player feel much more emotionally attached to the characters. The cast is enjoyable, and their connections and relations grow as the game goes on. The story itself, both in the trials and in the bigger picture of Danganronpa storyline feels cohesive and while shrouded in mystery after mystery eventually manages to successfully explain most if not all things.

Overall I wholeheartedly enjoyed this game and as the first game in the series fully recommend playing it first if you're interested in the games, as experiencing the games after is much more enjoyable with the prior knowledge and worldbuilding. While janky at times, the visuals and sounds do not fail, and the story is quite the ride.

this game ruined my life. i bought it in february, as a joke. it’s not a joke anymore. i have spent over one hundred hours on this game. one hundred hours of my life watching a murder bear cause problems for teenagers who have done nothing wrong. one hundred hours of my life trying to get chihiro to love me. i had no idea what was going on the entire time. but somehow, for some reason, i played the whole game and i can’t stop thinking about it. if you want to play this godforsaken game for some reason, please for the love of god do NOT look anything up. overall experience with danganronpa trigger happy havoc was 10/10 would recommend <3 chihiro fujisaki <3

Danganronpa,

Event though this game already more than 10 years old, this typical Mystery Solving Visual Novel is always be my favorite ever since I started playing it. Even me myself always get bored easily playing other title VN, Danganronpa : Trigger Happy Havoc has it's unique experience. It's feel different and make you interested to know more.

Without any more spoiler, I recommended everyone to play it because this series is one of the starting point of god tier VN i ever played b4. Trust me you won't regret joining adventure.

I don't think I can say anything that hasn't already been said about Dangonronpa but I like to write reviews for games I really enjoyed so here goes. Danganronpa gets everything right. The characters, the story, the music, and most importantly, the twists. The class trials have to be my favorite part of the game and during the trials, I take everything I've collected during investigation time, piece it together, and make my guess for who I think the killer is. Just when I think I'm right *boom* they hit me with another twist. The characters aren't so one-dimensional as they all have their own concerns and reasons for wanting out of Hopes Peak Academy. As a murder-mystery and visual novel enthusiast I absolutely loved this game and will definitely be picking up the other titles after this one. Maybe even give the anime adaptation a watch too.

Word of advice: don't get too attached to the characters unless you like pain.

Introduced me to visual novels, which have the benefits of a long-term text story, a visual style, and severe personal trauma since you're a character. I became cripplingly addicted to Japanese media and visual novels after this game. Please play it.

Whatever you do, do NOT search anything up about this game if you are planning to go into it for the first time.
There's a guarantee that you will get spoiled and that'll suck the fun out of the story and the game.
So if you are planning to go into Danganronpa, stay clear of the internet and don't search anything up.

Danganronpa has great characters, a creepy setting, and an interesting story with some great twists and turns along the way. You'll go through the game constantly wondering who'll die next, hoping it isn't your favorite character. The game is divided into two sections per chapter, daily life and deadly life. In daily life, you'll go around, interacting with the other characters, giving them gifts and getting to know more about them. After a character is found dead, deadly life starts. Deadly life has an investigation, and the main part of the gameplay, the class trial. In the investigation, you go around the school looking for clues that can help you in the class trial. In the class trial, you play a series of logic minigames, each one bringing you closer to finding out who the culprit is.

The entire series has been such an amazing adventure to take on. I love visual novels and I fell in love with danganronpa for many reasons, it's a series that makes me feel at peace and if i'm ever in a bad mood I listen to the sound tracks and feel instant relief a lot of the time. As someone who has extreme anxiety problems I play games and watch anime as my peace at mind. I appreciate this series so much and i'm sure you will too. I don't mean to get emotional I just am being honest how much I love these games. Maybe i'm just a big softy for everything but trust me you won't be disappointed.

Yeah, so, the characters aren't realistic at all haha, and they shouldn't be, that is precisely what makes this game so worth it.
They may be trope-y at times, but it works! The setting is unique and it's super engaging with all the characters being this weird, it naturally leads to all sorts of interesting scenarios/cases.

But best of all is the mastermind, Monokuma, always goading them on to do these things. He's a twisted, maniacal, sadistic jerk [spoiler]who won't give the characters even a few free days before unloading another motive on them and I LOVE IT![/spoiler]

Like what Eric Cartman is to South Park, if that's a fair comparison. Basically the constant stirring of new sh*t to overwhelm the main characters. Conflict is essential to a good story [spoiler]and Monokuma's the very embodiment of it![/spoiler]

Anyway, I really, really enjoyed this game. Definitely recommend it!

(Should've tbh played it sooner, it definitely deserves its critical acclaim. But anyway, 2020's Covid crisis has given me and seemingly many other new fans the perfect opportunity to, finally, and I'm glad for that.

WARNING: if you want to play this game, do not look up ANYTHING. It's hard to separate any element of this game, including the story, characters, and setting, from spoiler territory. Do not so much as put a character's name into Google, as it will likely reveal key information about the plot that will ruin certain twists.

That aside, let me attempt to highlight some of the reasons why this game is excellent without delving into anything spoiler-y. First, the audio/visual elements: both the soundtrack and character designs are done with a palpable sense of inspiration. This is apparent from the very first bizarre and cryptic cutscene, which establishes the intriguing balance of absurd and horrific ideas the game maintains from this point onward. Each environment and song is drenched in the sort of playfully-dismal atmosphere that you just have to experience to get, and each is used in perfect beat with the plot's progression. Without revealing too much, there were several moments at which musical and environmental changes prompted strong emotional reactions in me, all before even revealing whatever twist the game had in store. In addition, each character is given a distinct identity that allows the ensemble dynamic to remain consistently engaging + emotionally-involving. The dialogue will have you rolling, on edge, and intrigued all at the same time. Everything about how the game feels teeters somewhere in the middle of a carnival-turned-moratorium, including the game's distinctive art style. This unified aesthetic sensibility does wonders to help immerse the audience in the plot as it unfolds.

And speaking of the plot,
JESUS. I mean, that's about all I can say without revealing anything that would be much better experienced for yourself, but I will say that this is easily the most thought-provoking, attention-grabbing, and heart-engaging story I've played in a LONG while - if you're an analytical person like me, you'll be good hands from start to finish. That's all I'll get into.

Seriously, this is a game that must be played blind, in my opinion. If you're interested in a visual novel-style game built around mystery, puzzle-solving, strong characters, and arresting atmospheres, you've come to the right place. Could not give a stronger recommendation.

Really enjoyable experience!
This game is for people who enjoy visual novels, as this includes a lot of reading. Sometimes segments will drag on pretty long but the stories are really interesting and it's fun to figure out what happens. I find myself often getting surprised by the various twists, and the characters are wonderfully written, each having their own explored stories. Have been hooked from this first game and I'll definitely be purchasing the rest.
Also, this game gives a lot of playtime, mine took about 22 hours, around 30 including the School Mode.
You should note that this game isn't very replayable- it will just be the same story.

One of the most captivating games in my life XD
I love almost everything in it, but it took a lot of hours to went trough all the way, so I don't want to play again in order to check other endings - it will last forever :) But actually I want to try other parts of Danganronpa now!

The perfect game. There was basically nothing that changes my thinking on that statement. The 23 hours of story were definitely the most fun I've ever had with a game, ever! It requires you to set yourself in the shoes of Makoto, and experience what he experiences. The amount of emotions I've felt have never been achieved by anything. Thought provoking and entrancing, this game is the greatest game I've ever laid my eyes upon. The one tiny thing that bugs me is the fact it is extremely linear, but that's why the game is so wonderful for people stumbling into it without knowing much. Due to the amount of story, it makes its linear model a lot more replayable than other games. For the price of $20 you will experience an amazing game that requires you to think hard.

Wasn't too sure what to expect when I bought this, all I knew was that it was an anime story game. The whole way through it is pretty consistent and straightforward, mainly just focusing on the story but that's probably the best part. The story gets really engaging as you move forward and figuring out what happens piece by piece is actually pretty satisfying. You have absolutely 100% have to avoid any kind of spoilers when playing this game because it can very well ruin or damage your experience.

This being my first time playing a danganronpa game it exceeded my expectations and was well worth the purchase.

I will admit, I was a person who really did not have ANY interest in danganronpa whatsoever because the fanbase is actually dog piss. I was convinced by a friend to try it out I was pleasantly surprised of how it engaged me and got my brain thinking and how the story unfolds. I find this game to be more enjoyable to than Ace attorney. All you do in that game is select the right evidence and press but in this one it's almost like presenting evidence and getting certain things right leads to different choices, not just automated text. The murder cases also had lots of meaning behind them and emotions to figure out that one of your classmates or some character you really liked killed another, you had an attachment. In ace attorney, it's just random cases for the most part that you stumble across one way or another.

I know I was comparing a lot to Ace Attorney in my review but I did it for a reason, to show it was kind of like ace attorney but done more anime and interactively. I had a hard time putting down this game because I got so invested in it that I'd play for several hours at a time.

The only things this game doesn't do too well is the art style and the styling of the game. it looks ok when you're just facing at characters but the cardboard cutout look doesn't look too well with a 3D enviornment in my opinion. Though, the character designs are really well done and everyone has a diverse personality. Another issue since this game is like 10 years old is that when turning on some graphic settings like anti aliasing makes the game screen tear (with my 144hz monitor) and the V-Sync doesn't work. As well as when setting the game to 1440p, it doesn't stretch far enough on the screen so you're left with black boarders. Fine on a 1080p screen though.

final thoughs: If you like visual novels, anime stuff, interesting and mind boggling despair driven story you should play it if you haven't already.

This is the starting entry to my favorite series of all time, worth the money for sure, but for the best experience, you have to do a few things:
1: Try to theorize about what's going to happen next. It's best to not only guess killers, guess what happened and how, it gets you really immersed in the whole thing. I will say that the first case is very easy due to a translation thing as there's something that gives away the killer that is much less obvious to a native Japanese speaker, which was the target audience. There are still things that you probably won't guess right off the bat, focus on the method a lot more in this case.
2. PLAY THE FREE TIME EVENTS!!! I know the long amounts of text that don't seem to be going anywhere can get a bit tedious and can make you want to skip them, but you get so much more attached to characters when you do them. My personal favorites are Sakura's, Mondo's, and Byakuya's, but they're all pretty decent at the very least.
3. Do not skip text. No matter how mundane it seems, it might came back to bite you if you do. A lot of seemingly small conversations can hint at very large plot points, or sometimes even be the key to solving a case.
I hope you enjoy these games as much as I do :)

Mind this.
A very good friend of mine gifted me this, and my first thought was ''oh nooo, a visual novel, i never play those!'' but i still ended up enjoying it.

Let's get to the point quickly.
The story.
Definetly something that will make you want to know how it will unravel, the soundtrack..well..it may have become one of my favorites, and the characters are really something interesting (to me at least).

The gameplay.
You sure are gonna use your brain in this game, since you need to get in ''debates'' with the other classmates and find good arguments against them and play those damn minigames..i don't wanna talk about those, you will find out for yourself..

Graphics.
Very simple, since it's a game from 2010.
It mixes 2D drawings with a 3D enviroment, but it doesn't kill your eyes for a start.

Little tip.
Play it on both ''Mean (Hard)'' difficulties to get the best out of the game and if you want a good way to test yourself.

Intro
Visual Novel game compounded with alot of mystery. and you as student in this academy, u must Investigate and solve all of those mystery or u will lose ur life.

The Story
As someone who don't play visual novel. This game is one of the best stories I heard in games. I didn't expect it will steal all my time and my focus. I really like the way the story told and the mystery behind every word they said. Everything has meaning, every cutscene will affect the story, and with time everything will be revealed and you will know the full truth behind every puzzle piece. the story telling starts very slowly (because that start, I delayed the game like 2 times) but with time it will go faster and excitement. and you will see the development of characters.

Gameplay (using Xbox controller)
the game divided into 2 types of gameplay, general and trial.
In general is very easy, just hearing the chat and move around the area, maybe you will face some problem with moving around since you can rotate and move with only one analog only but you will use your other hand by checking the map or fapping?? Idk...
For trial, it is good, but you will face some problem with aiming. You may miss some shot because even you are not fast or you didn't aim right. but in the end you will get it. But about fighting another character, 1st time was interesting, but with time you will discover it is really unnecessary. at least for me.

Graphic:
The graphic is combined between 2D characters in the 3D world. And I have no problem with that. it was really good graphic/art, but maybe you will see some pixel here and there if you play in high resolution (1080 or higher) since this game made for the PSP (PlayStation Portable).

Conclusion:
In all, this game is one of the best game I ever played, and I'm really happy that I have a collection of this game because soon I will start to play Danganronpa V2 and I hope its as good as this one. if you don't have a problem with reading ALOT of sentences (because in the end it is visual novel) you really must play this game. and I'm 99% sure you will not regret it. except the gameplay, it's not perfect, but acceptable.

Extra Note Before Playing the Game:
1- Dont watch the anime because the anime is game adoption. they just compress the 40+ hrs in 5hrs anime.
2- Dont play the game with someone who know the story, they will REALLY ANNOYING YOU.
3- try to not search about the game, or the anime.

It's addicting, this entire Danganronpa series. This is the first game. I'm autistic and I've had a hyperfixtation on this for over a year now. Don't play if you just want something light and easy- you'll get sucked in before you know it.

Looks pretty basic... don't expect eye candy, you will not find it. As far as substance and story, this is really one of the best series i've had the please to play. Elements seem to borrow from ace attorney, visual novel, and point and click styles. definitely worth the time and reading.

I must admit that I've always been cautious when it comes to Danganronpa. As an outsider, the extraordinary character design and their expressions did not appeal to me in the slightest. But I don't want to judge a game solely on its cover and I'm glad I didn't, because I had a good time playing the game. I am conflicted on how evidence is gathered and how little of a detective you actually are since everything is mandatory, but people have told me that's not the main appeal of the game. Instead, the actual trials themselves are the main appeal which are a joy to experience. They're fast-paced and full of twists that throw you off-guard. You might think you know everything about a case, but the trials may very well prove you wrong. Other characters have found evidence as well, and it's up to you to debunk their evidence and come to a conclusion together. Besides, I might have said earlier that evidence and all is mandatory, but that doesn't mean you can just blindly go into the trials; you do actually need to pay attention to what the evidence is, where is was found and how; the whodunnit as to say. The characters are good overall though there aren't really any favourites for me, but what I liked most about them are their internal struggles. They are amongst the most successful teens, being dubbed ''Ultimates'' even. Yet here in this school, they are all the same; humans trying to escape despair. And you can learn more about them through campaign dialogue, but also bonding scenes a la visual novel style. This is further explored in the ''school mode'' which is unlocked after the main campaign, but honestly that mode is only good for one run. If you want everyone's ending though... prepare to go at least 4 times. It's a brain-dead resource management mode and you do always need to pay attention unless you want even more playthroughs to happen. Fortunately this mode is just something extra for people who enjoyed the main game and want to bond more with characters, as the main campaign is good enough for anyone looking for a good Mystery Visual Novel.

Short Review: Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc is the 1st game in the franchise and the entry point for most current danganronpa fans. This highly interactive visual novel is about Naegi Makoto a student of Hope’s Peak Academy – a high school that recruits students that have amazing capabilities in a certain domain/skill; Makoto and other students are forced into killing each other to escape from this school. While forced to play this game Naegi gets to meet and spend time with other trapped students which he can get to know better by spending time with them and giving them gifts (similar to stardew valley like friendship mechanic). With a large variety of ultimate students comes a large variety of personalities and infinite possibilities of interactions between them. The gameplay consists of 3 phases: Free time, investigation, trial. During free time you spend time with students and get to know them, then a murder happens and you have to investigate clues about the murder, and during class-trial with the help of the students you use your thinking capabilities along with the clues to find out exactly how the murder happened and then find out the culprit and see the culprit’s brutal punishment. The main aspect of the game is the story and the characters, with a gameplay that is not boring however it is definitely not the main aspect of the game, but engaging enough to keep the player feeling that it is a game and not just an e book with images. Overall a very intriguing murder mystery game that is very enjoyable to play due to its colourful cast of characters.

Story: 8.5/10
The game is focused on an interesting premise where an academy recruits people with special talents/abilities that make them above the rest, the so called Ultimates. They come in all shapes, sizes, genders and personalities, which is probably the most enjoyable aspect of the games: getting to meet, understand and grow a bond with them through Makoto (the most ordinary person of them all). And due to some events the students are forced to play a killing game by a bear named Monokuma which tells the students “you wanna escape then kill someone” however after the body is found there will be a class trial where all the students vote for who the culprit is, if they guess right then the culprit will be punished. The punishment for getting caught is a gruesome execution. Now with the explanation of the plot out of the way, time to delve more in depth about the actual events of the game: the game is setup into 6 different chapters, with a prologue and an epilogue, and every single chapter is more interesting than the previous one because of the increasing complexity of the murders as well as the overall change and development of the characters. The overall plot behind the mystery why the students have to kill each other and the mystery of Hope’s Peak was also a bit unexpected but gave it a nice touch. The ever changing environment of the killing game makes it very engaging to observe and be a part of. Overall a pretty great and intriguing story with twists and turns that are not predictable and with some very interesting and complex murder cases.

Gameplay: 7/10
The gameplay options depends on the stage of the game you are in: during free-time you are not restricted on your movement and intractability choices, it is also the time when you can use the monomo machine, which is an item dispense used to give gifts to students, during investigation you search for clues and testimonies from students, these are saved as truth bullets. During trial you use the truth bullets to reject certain affirmations by students to solve the case in a target style shooting minigame. There is also bullet time battle which is a rhythm based minigame where you have to shoot down a student’s speratic denial. Hangman’s gambit is a minigame where you have to shoot down the correct letters to find the right answer. And finally there is the closing argument where you piece together the exact order of events in a manga style comic. One of my personal favorite minigames since it gives you the feeling of putting the final puzzle piece, not to mention they are all animated and drawn. With every trial the game introduces new aspects to the existing minigames to make them more complicated. After completing the game, you get access to school mode where there are no killings and you can date all the characters to get a more intimate talk with them, to do so your class is required to gather resources, keep the school clean, and to construct robots from the resources gathered. Every character has mining and cleaning level that is carried forward next time you play school mode, so it gets easier the more you play. Although gameplay in danganronpa does not add much to the story, it is not boring or annoying. As a visual novel the school mode and class trials are pretty enjoyable in terms of gameplay options. However, during class trial there are moments where your idea is correct, you must choose the answer that the game thinks is correct, otherwise you get punished.
Visuals: 8/10
Although the art style needs some time to get used to, the design of all characters are great, and since you look at them for 80% of the game it really matters that they look nice. The overworld looks fine enough for the year of the game, not to mention the clever use of unorthodox design, color and lighting makes the school not feel plain and monotonous. All the closing argument panels look great and pleasing.
Sound: 10/10
this game has amazing soundtrack, I bow my head to Masafumi Takada since he did an excellent job for the soundtrack of this game, a lot of the tracks got onto my phone and I end up listening to them while walking. The soundtrack greatly enhances the gameplay because of how good it fits with the events on the screen. The sound effects for the game are also pretty good, they usually have a nice snap to them, the most famous one probably being the one of shattering the argument. Now time to talk about the voices, when starting the game, it will ask you if you want to play in Japanese or English, however the game fails to mention that it only affects audio aka what language the characters are speaking in, all the text and visuals remain exactly the same. I have played a tiny bit in English, but most of the game in Japanese, I also listened to the English voice actors on youtube and although the English voice acting is pretty good, I still think the Japanese one is better, they really can give away the emotions better: the best examples would be [spoiler] Genocide Jack and Junko [/spoiler] which have amazing Japanese voices. So at the end of the day it depends on your preference but I personally would say that the Japanese voice actors did a better job.

Overall score: 8.7/10
The game is extremely enjoyable and has a lot of enjoyable moments, it doesn’t add much in terms of gameplay however it honestly doesn’t need to since it has such an interesting cast of characters and very interesting story. Although 100%ing the game at times was a bit of a chore I still greatly enjoyed a lot of it, especially with school mode that allowed me to spend time with this wonderful cast of characters and build relationships with them. I am really thankful to my friends that recommended me to buy danganronpa when it was on sale since I had a blast. Also please do not just brush off the 1st game because there is an anime adaptation of it: it really doesn’t do the game justice.

This game was a fantastic experience. I highly recommend this game for its plot, characters, and game play. Also, it is best experienced blind!!!!

A beary wholesome game about high school students living out a happy communal life with their very cute teddy bear (with top koality bear puns) headmaster. Would bear through it again.

I loved this game from beginning to end, it is such an amazing and immersive visual novel with a great plot and amazing mystery elements, I know I ain't the best at writing reviews or anything but in short, if you like murder mysetries and visual novels, get this game, and don't get too attached to characters, it will only break your heart.

oh and if you like ace attorney, definetly get this!

This game is seriously one of the best games I've played this year. The story is always engaging and is really interesting too as you progress through the game. Investigating the crime scenes of the murder is super interesting as well. Some moments without a doubt will leave you in shock. Most of the characters are really cool, but some aren't all that great. If you're interested in getting in to the visual novel genre of video games, then this would be a great way to start from my experience.
