Eine der besten Mods die es damals für CS gab. Auch die Retail Fassung waren super. Aber nichts geht über die Source Version. Ich hoffe ja noch immer, das mit der neuen Source Engine auch eine neue DoD Version erscheinen wird.

Day of Defeat ist eigentlich wie Team Fortress 2 nur als WWII Spiel.
Wäre sehr cool, würde Valve das Spiel mit verbesserter Grafik noch mal neu raus bringen oder updaten.
Ist einem Grafik nicht so wichtig, kann man es mal ausprobieren.

Buy this game, when you can accept, some simple rules:

1. Play by the server-rules
2. Cap the flags
3. Be friendly to other players

If this is too hard for you, then you should stay away.

Also... if you are a older player and you want to feel young again... BUY IT NOW!

DoD2 still has a much better WW2-atmosphere than any newer game (i look at you, BATTLEFIELD 5).

Auch im Jahr 2019 ungeschlagen der Beste WW2 shooter (und womöglich allgemein shooter)

Grafisch gut gealtert, atmosphäre so wie Gunplay auf höchstem level, lediglich sind die server etwas weniger geworden (wird immer noch aktiv gespielt).

kauft es und habt spaß, ich hab keinen cent bisher bereut.

Insanely underrated game and for the entire time i played it was a great time. It's pretty much the original Day of Defeat but ported into the Source Engine which doesn't sound special but the custom levels/content people make in this game makes it really addicting and alot of fun to go through as the custom maps can have alot of unique and interesting ideas that support the gameplay of all the classes you play as. I really wish this game had official Steam Workshop support though as i believe that would be enough to keep it living and it's a real shame, missed opportunity that Valve hasn't done it and i don't believe ever will due to how their workplace is like sadly.

Day of Defeat was one of my favorite Half-Life mods back in the day. I wish Source still got updated and modernized. I've been playing CoD Vanguard, and while I am having a lot of fun with that game, its making me think of DoD Source and how much I miss that game and its community.

Bit dated but fun with a team of friends on a closed server, the online community these days is a bit patchy and seems to be certain demographics that make it a bit hard to communicate with on my behalf, I prefer the Battlefield 19XX series when it comes to WW2 multiplayer FPS games.

For the Australians out there. Do not bother with this game.
There is one server, controlled by racist, knuckle dragging admins who are extremely rude and assertive.
It's disappointing that the community is in their hands.

If you want a good WW2 with better communication and respect. Play Hell Let Loose.

This game is a ww2 classic and I recommend it. For a game from 2005 it's very good and the graphics are still not feeling outdated. This game aged like a good wine!

Probably one of the most fun games I've played. Sadly not a lot of people play it. I wish they would. I loved the 32 minutes I played this game. Super chill community and players. I never really rate a game this quick but Day of Defeat Source is a hidden gem. Love this game.

I honestly got into DOD due to my Father, Hes a big gamer, hence where i got it from, All i have its nothing but amazing memories and met some amazing people whilst i was playing this , even though i was young, the WAD server my dad played on had a JR section for all the older blokes kids that wanted to play, which was sick. I miss it, some of my best memories. Im always going cherish those days always

Basically WW2 counter strike with a mix of TF2. It's actually a pretty decent game if you manage to find a server that isn't some crappy modded gun game server, or a server that doesn't have bullshit rules with 30 year old tryhards playing the game like if their life depends on it.

As far as things go in team deathmatches, classes will always be best. Having six guys with snipers doing spin moves like I used to see in MW2 can be kinda stupid. The maps are well thought-out, with the only problem being that capture-the-flag is the only real gamemode. The weapons are nice and realistic, even if the graphics seem rather cartoonish in this day and age. I daresay this is a true tactical shooter.

Gameplay is fun but other than that this goes down rather quickly.
Barely any servers, playerbase is endangered and is almost completely gone, custom models and maps refuse to download, therefore, if I join any server with a custom model / map, it will kick me if I don't have it.

Absolute terrible noodle code, valve please fucking fix.

Love this game. Been playing since I was 6 or 7 years old. You meet some very nice people who want to keep the DOD:S community alive. There's only about 200 servers still up, less than half of them are still active. I sometimes get bored of the game and leave for a bit but It's always a nice game to go back to if you're ever bored. Play it before it dies!

So it only makes sense that Valve would port this popular game over to its flashy new Source engine as it did with Counter-Strike. Played this game for years. Kept me going during the first part of my enlistment. We would spend all our time at the cybercafe playing Day of Defeat (especially once we found out how to reboot around the payment system). It is very intimate squad based combat and the beauty of it is you really can't play this game like a one man army. You will get stomped. That being said, dropping 5 people in a row with the K98 then getting a stab kill as you go down feels immeasurably good.

Day Of Defeat - A Wonderful Throwback

Back in the early/mid 2000s when Call Of Duty was a major player in the FPS scene it offered brilliant, fun and entertaining shooter set in WW2. These were very fun but included no multiplayer and the ones that did... well the servers are far from alive to say the least. So what if you want a WW2 shooter with graphics and sound effects reek of those simpler times, one where the multiplayer is alive and offers hours of fun. Well, look no further than Day Of Defeat.

Day Of Defeat is a WW2 FPS Shooter with no story but a massive multiplayer scene which has plenty of servers for you to play on. On standard servers you either play as America or Germany and have to take control of 5 different points to win a game. Alternatively you can play a bomb mode in which your team and the enemy team has 2 bombsites in which you have to stop the enemy team from coming onto and planting said bomb. You can do this with a variety of classes which boast their own weaponry and skills meaning there's always something new to try if the previous wasn't working for you. If none of this sounds remotely interesting to you then why not try a modded server instead? DOD has many servers made by the community offering alternate game modes, classes and maps!

The graphics still hold up quite well in my opinion but maybe that's because I'm a dork for this early 2000s/ late 90s graphic style that the game throws at you but it's not ugly to look at and buildings, guns character models and everything look great! In fact, it's quite aesthetically pleasing. Oh and a last note, the rag-doll physics in this game are absolutely hilarious.

Sounds in this game are phenomenal! Guns blazing left, right and centre, explosions as you charge up to capture a point, footsteps and even more are all just fantastic and a super high quality I cannot express how much I love these.

But with all that sad there are some cons. Some games contain a lot of BOTS, the recoil on these guns is absolutely insane and takes a long while to master, you have less health than somebody on life support it's like you have 1HP and on the majority of servers it's impossible to heal.

To conclude Day Of Defeat satisfies the WW2 style multiplayer shooter many of us crave but if that's not what you want/crave it's still a very good fps and I highly recommend it despite it's few drawbacks.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy playing the game, but I really wouldn't recommend buying it. The shooting in this game has a very large learning curve and the actually WWII maps are limited. This game has not had any Valve attention or tender love and care in over a decade and then some. Sad really, there was potential, just wasn't tended too.

bruh its not even lag, but my ping raises up like a fucking sun. IM NOT EVEN LAGGING, and you'll get kicked if you exceed the fucking ping limit. YES, THERE IS A PING LIMIT WHICH IS SUCKS. Its just not worth it.

Back in 2005 this game was amazingly the sh**t, 3 years later (2008) my GF left me cause of this game.
Although today in 2020 this may not appeal to the younger generation it is still a great game and i highly recommend it.

A true classic. If you're curious about the popularity before buying this, it does still have a decent amount of servers that are constantly full, so people do still play. The best part about it is the community. You'll generally find older, more mature people playing and working together, so it's always a good time.

DoD:S is old, and lightweight and when I first got the game, I thought it would be like a couple of days before I leave it for good (All thanks to my pathetic aiming skills, and how skilled the other players were).

But the game was beautiful. The graphics held up, the classes were so good and balanced, and [strike]the maps[/strike] the map Donner...ooo-la-la. The gameplay is realistic and simple, you are more likely to find yourself taking cover while an exchange of grenades ensue rather than rush (which is most certainly going to lead to inevitable death).
The guns feel authentic and real, recoil feels frustratingly real. The number of active servers are less, but they are there, keep a lookout for them.
Game is based on WW2, has good maps, has good gameplay, has good guns and has good people wielding the guns. What's stopping you from joining?

This title is honestly one of the better WWII shooter games I've had the pleasure of playing. Even though the game is nearing 15 years old, its gameplay still holds up today. The graphics, eh, not too much, but they are good for 2005 technology.

I really like how the class system is set up, with examples such as being a regular infantryman, a sniper, or a support gunner. This variety really can be useful when figuring out your playstyle - you can be a nervous wreck of a private or an insane lunatic with a machine gun.

Some of the mechanics (most notably, aiming down sights) do tend to be a bit wonky - furthermore, the speed at which you move when scoped in with the Sniper Rifle (Kar98k or Springfield) is ridiculously low: I'm aware that it's probably a balancing feature, but it still is hard to work with.

But what I really think shines through is the communication that you see in most Valve multiplayers. I especially like the audio callouts you can do, where your soldier will shout it out after pressing the key. It's certainly a useful feature.

At the end of the day, though, the core gameplay, capturing objectives, and getting some frags are what makes this game worth it.

Despite reading quite a few negative reviews in which case i normally refrain from buying a game, this game turned out to be quite nice. You play as either Allies or Axis in a Counter Strike Source style game except the goal is to capture as many control points and get hold of them before the timer runs out. There are quite a few live servers up to this day and other servers contain pretty good functional bots to compensate for missing players. The game runs even on the most dated hardware all thanks to the unique Source Engine which allows great graphics and smooth performance. Have a look at some Youtube videos and see if this one is for you.

Hecking awesome. A game that is nearly 20 years old and it's still hella fun to play today. No thousand dollar weapon sknins, no 99999k graphics, nothing that isn't essential. Just the basics of a FPS: Guns and tons of fun
