Sehr Gutes Simulation! Man muss allerdings viel Zeit investieren.

Einfach perfekt!

This game is awesome, simple as that. Yes, it takes a lot of time to learn an aircraft on top of the insane price tag of the modules, but it's so awesomely worth it. The learning and memorization process goes from frustrating to understanding in about a week, and the satisfaction after a successful operation is better than sex... but not like I'd know since all I do is play this game, but I assume so. 100% get this game.

The most detailed military flight simulation I have ever seen!

Don't panic if you do not have a pro HOTAS joystick. The button configuration in this game is really advanced that you can even fly the most difficult air craft with just mouse!

I personally use Logitech 3D Extreme and it is easily providing enough features for both helicopters and jets. Pedals are not needed if you have something like 3D Extreme.

The laymans introduction to DCS World:

DCS can be a lot of fun if youre interested in high fidelity air combat simulation, but requires a lot of investment to get the fun out of it, both time & money, though the more you invest the more you get back from the game.

For starters, you need a good PC, the game is very demanding if you want it looking nice and running smooth, which for me is a 3080 ti to run on the max preset graphic settings @ 4k, which gets me a just over the 60fps line generally.

You will also likely need a decent SSD to run the game from, its not super mandatory, but the game is huge and the highly detailed vehicles are also huge files, so the game leans on your storage device a lot, and loading from a HDD is painfully slow.

Next is controls: KB&M are not going to cut it, a gamepad is barely enough to play, ideally though you will at least have just a flight stick, but the game will become more rewarding as you add more hardware to it, so a throttle, rudder pedals, head tracking, at which point you could probably stop, but there are also other peripherals that companies like Logitech offer (or more specialty companies), so you can keep going if you really want, but its quite expensive for even, what most people would probably call, an entry level setup.

Personally, I have what I would consider an incomplete entry level setup in the x56 stick & throttle combo from Logi, which is a nice basic HOTAS setup which works and is fun without breaking the bank, and while I dont mind toughing it out without a rudder, lacking head tracking is painful.

Now you can at least play the game, you realise the base game doesnt give you much to fly, just 2 planes, the SU25T and a WW2 fighter, which the SU25T is actually quite a good plane, its fully simulated, which isnt true for all planes, some are very basic which you can tell from their price, but the SU25T is a good attack plane that is easy to fly and easy to learn how to use its weapons, with several tutorials to learn from.

The Flaming Cliffs DLC will give you a handful of simpler planes to fly, ones that dont have the same level of detail and interactability or simulation as the more expensive vehicles, along with tutorials and missions to use them on, so its likely the first thing to look at buying, and be careful not to rebuy the same planes separately, which you can do.

You will also need to by the maps to play on, though the game does give you 2 very highly detailed (Im fairly sure its 2 free maps) which are better looking than some older premium maps, but if you want a different setting, like the middle east or central USA, its going to cost you.

Sales though are reasonably regular, you can generally get what you want on discount eventually, though if its new you might be waiting a while.

Its obvious and already been said, but its worth specifically saying again, DCS is a sim, so its not about instant action, though theres always something that requires your attention, out side of ofc a lengthy flight to or from the action, but missions tend to be crafted so that travel time is minimal, MP is its on beast obviously, but either way, dont expect simple controls or instant action.

You'll need to spend time to learn the basics of flying in the game, most of the time each specific vehicle requires its own dedication of time to learn it specifically, then you need to learn weapons, and how they are specifically used on particular vehicles, which can generally be quite simple, but generally even the simplest plane has more advanced fire control systems available, let alone coming to grips with gunner AI control menus in difficult to fly helicopters.

There are plenty of user made missions and other mods available to download, which can add a lot to the game that you can definitely play solo, or even co op in a single vehicle if its supported, though MP is the core of the game, the AI scripting seems quite basic, essentially static, all manual scripting, no base level AI aside from point and shoot.

Its definitely worth trying if you have any interest in highly immersive gameplay, simulator games, air combat, or flying planes and helicopters in a sim.

This sim is always my go-to when I want to chill out, spend time with friends, and have a good laugh. I've always had a knack for military planes, so being able to fly these awesome planes with such attention to every little small detail is why I spend so much damn time on this game. I could play this sim for thousands hours and not get bored, which is what I'm going to do.
This sim has a very steep learning curve but it plateaus quite quickly. Every module not only has great training documentation from the developer, but they have thousands of videos online that are extremely detailed and easy to follow. The community for this game is just as great; from milsim squadrons to free-roam servers, you'll find a ton of like-minded people who, if you befriend, will love to spend hundreds of hours flying with you, and passing on their knowledge to help you get better.
I don't regret a single second or dollar I've spent on this sim, and I promise you won't either.

Best combat sim, hands down. Most realistic, and the LEAST RESOURCE HEAVY!! which matters when you wanna play VR. I can run it just fine on my XPS 8700 - I7-4790 3.6ghz, 16gb DDR3 Ram, 1650GTX GFX card. Honestly this setup cannot play most of the good PCVR titles like Elite Dangerous, or NMS. but DCS, and IL-2 play Real well, and others, like fallout 4, play well enough to play.
They pay attention to detail, but it's not a necessity. if you just wanna have sum fun, hop into a low fidelity craft like the flaming cliffs f-15C. Though if you're looking for REALISM, then they have that too, just buy and hop into MANY fully detailed and interactive aircraft, it's simple as that. Controls are many, but that's how sims are lol Great selection of performance tweaking capabilities also. Again, real easy on resources!!

Highly recommended combat sim, this is NOT an arcade game, it is for entertainment or study purposes, but it will require you to understand and study manuals for each individual aircraft, the sim is constantly evolving, the last big update was the new clouds in 2.7, and it was a huge visual change. As for now, you have two free terrain, maps (Caucasus and Marianas island), two free aircraft (Su-25T low fidelity and P-51D Mustang high fidelity without armament) and many free air, naval and ground targets including some WW2 units for free too. It is very important you use a track device, VR or any other method to move your head in clickable full fidelity cockpits especially in analog aircraft (WW2 or Cold War) because you will need to have visual contact and at the same time to operate the aircraft, is also very highly advisable to have a joystick and for helicopter to have rudder pedals, this is an expensive hobby but for me and many other people is worth it, start with the basics and if you see you like it then upgrade to something better. You can play the game in steam or in the standalone launcher, I stopped using steam because you can't use free trials, these are 14 days periods which you can try every module of DCS (except for missions) for FREE, you can start the trial again after 6 months, so you can be trying different modules for long period of time, however, I still buy the modules in Steam because that way I can write reviews and because I want to have the option to play in Steam or Standalone, as for now, you can transfer your modules from steam to standalone but not vice versa, prices between standalone and steam will be very similar, even some like the last I bought (AH-64D) was some cents cheaper in steam, but you get in standalone a discount of 50% in your first purchase (Note: You get the discount not only for one module but for the all basket in your first purchase), they also give you points for each purchase that you can then spend for getting discounts and they have more sales.

To sum up, DCS is a great sim, you will never get bored, ton of content and things to learn, visuals and immersion are incredible, very accessible for new players (for the nature of this hobby) because you have the free trials, planes, terrain and targets to play with so give it a shot, is free.

Edit: I forgot to mention that there are amazing quality mods that you can download and play for free, to mention a few:

A-4 Skyhawk
T-45 Goshawk
A-29B Super Tucano
C-130 Hercules

Step 2: Play 1 hour of it and bash your head against a wall trying to learn it
Step 3: Give up, Uninstall :'(
Step 4: Redownload it 2 years later
Step 5: Spend 60 hours learning the basics while bashing your head against your monitor
Step 6: LEARN LEARN LEARN!!!
STEP 7: Get a Boggy Dope from your GCI and acquire a 2 Ship at Angels 33 using TWS track in the F-18 and launch 2 lofted AIM-120C at Angels 38 @Mach 0.98 while notching the enemy F-14's phoenix missiles all while maintaining your TWS track until your AIM-120C goes pitbull and watch the enemy planes turn into fire crackers.

Step 8 (optional): Ejaculate :')

Step 9: Be proud you actually learned something and conquered the initially intimidating complexity of DCS :)

I love this flight Simulator, yes DLCs are quite a bit expensive but believe me, it is Worth buying some of the modules playing the game spatially with some good friends.
I've came across some really friendly, warm and welcoming people in this community, who are patient about their hobby.

I will recommend you play this great combat Simulator for onece spatially if you have a Joystick or a HOTAS.

This is the best combat flight sim hands down!

You might say it is just to expensive compared to IL2 Sturmovik, but what you get is a much more complex sim, the physics of flying is much better and you can klick every button in the cockpit, and that is what you need to do to start the airplanes.

Not saying IL2 is a bad game, but it is more focused on action, this is a real sim!

0->70 hours in A10-C: Struggles for days, legit hate for the tutorials, huge struggles in gameplay
70->75 hours in A10-C: Tutorials are helpful for stuff you forgot, fun gameplay
75->99 hours in A10-C: Dodging SAM's left right and center, EZ GAEM, realization that the tutorials were very well made.

Overall a game full of dedicated people who like to go hard or be casual all together and play missions and are not shy to help when you have questions. Very steep learning curve but once you get on top or halfway there, the fun begins :)

Are you interested in military aviation? Do you like hyper realistic simulators where you have to learn a lot but will get rewarded heavily when you learn? Do you want to go mach 2 in an F14B while Danger Zone plays? Do you want to get into intense dogfights or Beyond Visual Range engagements? Then this game is for you. There is a steep learning curve for each aircraft but once you get the hang of it there's no stopping you. Have fun, fly safe!

This game is the definition of bragging rights. I now know how to fly specific aircraft and Jared from across the street does not, therefore I am way higher in the class system and more valuable than Jared's miserable baby brain that doesn't have any idea of how to fly any aircraft. He may have more money than me now but not the knowledge. I am truly ascended above others and my goals are beyond their understanding.

As someone who has been interested in flight simulators since the days when I was playing Jane's WWII Fighters and Jane's F-15 on a PC with a Pentium II processor, I can happily say that DCS World is the best flight simulator that I have ever played.

DCS World is a flight simulator featuring beautiful graphics that complement the fun and rewarding gameplay, designed for players that are willing to take the time to learn to operate the many aircraft this sim has to offer. Be advised if you have never played a real flight sim and are used to casual flight games like the Ace Combat series, or maybe just enjoy taking it to the skies in games that are not focused on flight like Arma III or GTA V. Than learning to fly in DCS World will take a lot more time and will be a lot more demanding. Don’t let that intimidate you if you’re interested in trying something different, flying in DCS World feels highly satisfying when you get the hang of it!

The only downside is that unless you are willing to spend the yearly budget of the U.S. Air Force, you are not going to get to try all the aircraft, maps and scenarios that DCS World has to offer right away. All joking aside even the cost is not a big issue, because Eagle Dynamics offers their content on sale quite often and just one of the paid aircraft modules here can provide you with plenty of flight hours. DCS World also included two older airplanes
(an Su-25T and a TF-51) as well as a map set in the Caucasus region. All of which are available right away free of charge if you just want to try playing DCS World without spending any money up front.

One more suggestion for any future DCS World ace pilots. If you want to experience DCS World the way it was meant to be played, do yourself a favour and invest in a HOTAS joystick (I use an X52 Pro). While flying only using a keyboard and mouse is possible it is just not all that fun and detracts from the experience of flying in what I think is the best flight simulator available on PC.

I thought I was only addicted to black coffee, but it looks like I might be addicted to DCS, as well. I got to have some every day. Sometimes more than some, more like a lot some days.

Here's some aircraft I'd suggest with a coffee addiction as a frame of reference:

Mi-8 Hip>>I know there has to be a switch to start brewing coffee somewhere in all these dials and switches?

MiG-15bis>>climb vertically, sweetheart! That F-86's got coffee and we've 20mm and 37mm to get it.

MiG-21bis>>I still can't turn worth sh*t even on caffeine..

Su-27>>Caffeinated Cobra and Espresso Helmet mode..

A-10>>Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrt on caffeine is more effective. Seriously!

M2000C Mirage>>Delicious French roasted delta wing

AV-8B Harrier>>jump jet, more like jumpy jet with too much black mud in the bloodstream..

F-14A/B>>There goes Jester again ejecting prematurely, probably too much caffeine this morning.

Ka-50 Black (Coffee) Shark>>The Shkval takes coffee orders, and is delivered in under 10 seconds with the Vikhrs...

UH-1H Huey>>
SA342 Gazelle>>
F-15>>
F-16>>
F/A-18>>

Yes, black coffee (or whatever combination and concoction you make your mud) and DCS go ever so well together as complementary addictions, you should give it a go. There's so many cool (and expensive) aircraft, but well worth the investment if you got the love, the cash, the time, and of course, the coffee.

You'll notice that a majority of bad reviews are from people with merely a few hours on the sim, and that is for good reason. Simply put, the sim is not made for them. This simulator (and I stress it is a sim not a game) is for someone who is willing to put time into something they love. The people who just hop into it without researching beforehand are going to be both confused and likely disappointed. If you want a game in which you can just log on and instantly understand everything, DCS is not for you. However, if you are the type to want to be challenged and rewarded for those challenges, DCS is one of the most incredible things you could possibly have on your hard drive. It is a gorgeous, detailed, and fantastic sim for the hardcore, and I haven't even come close to mastering what this product has to offer. You will not regret getting DCS world, and when your wallet is crying because you bought an F-16, you won't hear it because you'll be busy enjoying it. From both the bottom of my heart and my bank account, I give DCS my highest praise.

This is not for the lazy, if you buy a advanced module be prepared, its not a walk in the park learning these aircraft. Be ready to struggle and be frustrated, but once you get it down it will feel like second nature and the feeling of dropping 8 JSOWs from 20 miles from your target at 28,000 feet and having all 8 hit their targets precisely will make it all worth it.

DCS is DLC Hell. I got on board with DCS way back with BlackShark. They released a new version rather than update the original. I refused to get on their wagon then. At some point I completely lost access to my original Black Shark and cannot play it now. Their business model is designed to keep you buying modules, paying nearly as much for a module as you would for a full blown game title. They have increased prices before Steam Sales. They responded to one such incident saying it was to absorb some of the cost of the DCS World, I believe, which is free. So they are gonna tell you DCS World is free, but then charge you for it somewhere else ? You got my money in the past. Won't get it again.

I would recommend this game, but there are certainly some strings attached. If you're considering this game, you need to know some things first: This is a very deeply researched, and accurate simulator. I'm a GA pilot in real life, and the flight models are insanely accurate. The WWII planes make me feel like I should never touch a tail-dragger.

But, you get what you pay for, and that is the biggest hurdle. My circle of friends have resorted to a 'gift system' because justifying the $60 planes and maps is getting difficult. It feels better buying it for someone else; which brings us to point number two!

If you're playing online with friends, they need to buy their own planes, they need to own the same map, and god-forbid you play with a WWII asset pack because that's $60 too. Oh, and as far as what you're gonna do? Well, you had better get used to using the in-game mission maker, because missions are another $60 DLC.

Getting a new plane in this game is followed by about three days of youtube tutorials and reading manuals like homework. After all of that, you find yourself flying your new plane and mastering it; I played with the A-10, an excellent bird, and a lot of fun to fly. What happened? I spent 90 real minutes flying to catch up with my friends in F-14s and F-16s, just in time for them to run out of fuel.

So, if you do buy this game, just know that these challenges are the caveats you have to reckon with before you can start to jump into the action. Again, this is a fun experience, and it never gets old, but you will pay: with your money, and with your time, in order to fully enjoy DCS.

I love you DCS, and thats why i'm leaving a negative review.

As great a sim as you are, the VR performance is just abysmal. Considering i can't be bothered playing any other way, it's a deal breaker to me. Ontop of that, i also feel too much developer attention is on very expensive paid modules that remain unfinished for years. The core experience generally needs way more love.

I'll be happy to change my review once VR is improved.

Ok where to start. I have played so many games in my life but this one is the HARDEST games I have ever played + the most realistic game. Man I feel like I am in the airplane I feel when you master your airplane here you can easily go and start flying in real life. This is one of the games where it's hard to learn even harder to master.

I wish there is a detailed training before training lol (there is a training but even that is hard). Just kidding you MUST try this, you will get 1 plane free to try.

See you in the sky :)

P.S Couple days ago my father had a guest and he was a pilot I felt so cool being able to have conversation with him about planes, modes, rockets, different defensive maneuver etc... my family was looking at me and they were like wtf how he knows all of that shit. ahhaha

The best most easily accessible modern combat flight simulator on a study level, but not without its caveats.

Lately (2018-2020) the devs have been more interested in announcing/cranking out modules while simultaneously reducing the quality of the actual game by introducing more issues than they quash with every patch.

if they go back and address the clunky, poorly performing, and underdeveloped areas of this wonderful game I would gladly change my review to positive.

Completely reworking Combined Arms and making it available to every player would be a good start.

After 670 hours, I start to master this game a little. I started playing the free SU25T in the beginning. This plane already has countless hours of fun and challange. The learning curve is steep but very rewarding. Then i made the big mistake of lending a VR headset from someone. If you do not intend buying one of those, do not try one. After the VR experience the game will never be the same and you will buy one. And then you will start to upgrade your PC to get the best VR experience. And then you will buy a even better VR set. And then you will start to account what you have spend on you PC............. And then you will decide to never tell your wife. But you will not regret it. Some say that the DLC`s are quite expensive and they are right. The thing is that an aircraft DLC will take you countless hours to truly master. So if you buy 1 you`re set. However choose wisely. Some aircraft DLC are early acces and not completely functional, like the F16 DCL. Don`t worry. By the time you have mastered the plane and its functions an update comes and there`s new functions to discover. I recommend this game to everyone and their mothers. Enjoy

Alright after more than 200 hours I finally feel confident to review this. DCS is a great simulation, it's probably the best combat flight simulator out there. It's super immersive and yes some planes can be quite complex, but that's part of the fun.
Start out with the FREE SU-25, just to see how the game runs, but I would suggest to buy the F-15 as soon as possible (can get it on sale for around 5 EUR). The SU-25 is a great plane and has loads of options, but I believe you'll only appreciate it after having some experience with the sim. If you want more after and want to get serious, then it's time to invest in one of detailed models, like the F-18 and F-16. I personally love the F-14 the most, the systems are very simple (as pilot), but the flying is more complicated than the F-18 for example as there is no fly-by-wire and it has less Air-to-ground options than the others.

So what's not to like about it? Well, it's a great sim, but maybe not a great game by itself. It misses a dynamic campaign generator. Now you have a big sandbox sim where you can create your own missions or download missions others have created, but this gets boring pretty soon. You can go online and there is a huge online community, playing from air-quake and capture the flag to super realistic missions. Most people though are single player gamers or just want to fly with their buddies. As Eagle Dynamic has not come up with a dynamic campaign system yet, the community has created something really amazing: DCS Liberation (google it), this is basically an external tool/game that turns DCS in a turn based strategy game, where you have to buy air/ground units and defenses. Set orders for them then load up DCS and fly/drive a dynamically generated mission. DCS Liberation is what makes it really come alive. You can even play it with your buddies as you can tell the tool how many client (player) slots to generate.

Thanks to DCS Liberation I can really recommend DCS anybody who is even remotely interested in it.

DCS - Teaching people everywhere that TOPGUN would be less beach volleyball and more textbooks.

This is definitely one of those games where you have a fair idea whether it's for you or not based on the premise alone. Do you want seemingly infinite complexity with something approximating a learning wall instead of a learning curve? If yes, then you have come to the right place. As much as I enjoy playing, I wouldn't exactly call DCS 'fun' - it's more satisfying. This is because nearly everything is pretty difficult to do - so after crashing into the sea or the back of the carrier for the 30th time you do feel as though you have accomplished something the first time you make a wobbly landing and catch a wire.

There will be the times when your laser guided bomb wont work because you forgot one of the half-dozen switches you need to have in the right place. So you will spend time making numerous physical and mental checklists and watching YouTube demos for the tenth time. Also, the number of times I have suddenly exploded because I didn't have early warning settings in the correct place and became the victim of an unseen enemy isn't worth even going into.

You do get rewarded for practicing and refining (I don't want to say 'skills' but it's basically the only word) skills and remembering the correct procedure for every facet of flying your chosen plane. If you read that and think it sounds painfully dull then you have your answer. If you have time to spare then give it a bash.

Must-have if you own a VR and decent HOTAS. Once you get bored with XPlane, MSFS and AeroFly, you'll realize you have wasted you time until now. Nothing can touch this.

DCS's biggest problem is accessiblity - nobody tells you what to do, and that the included mission editor is where the real game is. Oh, and you'll need a decent plane. If you came here graduating from XPlane, get a complex plane straight away, or just for the heck of it, get the Eagle and Flanker (low-complexity) and play the hell out of this game. The Flaming Cliffs 3 Bundle is a very good deal that get you a bunch of lo-complexity planes for a reasonable price). Fly until your Throttle needs a replacement.

Then get the complex Hog (the C variant), and find out just how much fun a frustrating learning curve can be. A 100+-Step Startup procedure? Check. A Maverick delivery system that only a mother can love? Double-check. Brrrrt? Oh *hell* yeah.

And once you get too comfortable with the (incredibly beautiful in VR) Caucasus region, get Syria.

If you are looking for a way to ruin your marriage, spend all your remaining money and time - you've just found it.

I flew small single engine aircraft for several years and did aerobatics for a few years. The realism of the P-51 simulator is stunning. If you want to fly a fighter or other aircraft this is remarkably realistic down to the smallest detail.

The most expensive game i have ever played, but you get what you pay for. started with the flaming cliffs pack (6 planes) and once i got comfortable i grabbed the F14, the super carrier and AJS-37. then i wanted more maps to play in and more servers to choose from so i grabbed PERSIAN GULF and SYRIA.Then i wanted to get ready for the upcoming apache and cobra heli sdo i grabbed the KA-50 lol.
i am using an x52 HOTAS and TRACK IR. not to mention i play this game in 4k almost every setting at max. i recommend this game if you're serious about flight sims, and yes i have MSF2020.

DCS can be the best and the worst game at the same time. Sometimes you will be so immersed that 6 hours will pass in the span of just one. Other times bugs, glitches and shit performance won't even allow for 5 minutes of uninterrupted, enjoyable gameplay. It's hit or miss really. Modules can be hit or miss as well. Anytime you select an aircraft and click play its like a surprise box. Is the radar gonna work? will the engine sounds work? is the flight model gonna be busted? Anyhow I don't wanna be here all day. Should you get it? Well the base game giving you access to 2 modules is free so in my opinion yes. Keep in mind though that just like any other flight sim it's a black hole that will constantly suck your money. In my humble opinion download this game from the ED store instead of steam. I've been an avid steam user since 2013 but DCS is one of the games that if you download from a secondary party ( steam ) you miss on stuff like, sales or updates.

Flawed and overpriced perfection

Few words first. This review is for people who never played a flight or played only a little. If you're a fan of hardcore flight sims you should either know about DCS already and if not then just download it.

So what is DCS? It translates as digital combat simulator. An extremely realistic flight simulator with military aircraft.
There's so much to talk, positive and negative.
Well the base game is free. It comes with one map (Caucasia) and couple of low fidelity planes. There good guys (western world, NATO) and bad guys (soviets, terrorists) so you pick a side and fight. It's enough to get a basic idea what this game is but far from what you get by purchasing DLC. Low fidelity planes means no interactable cockpit. Flight dynamics are pretty good on these models but most other stuff is automated or non existent. It's still a challenge to fly and staying alive. I suggest for new people to buy one cheap DLC like F-15 or Flaming cliffs 3 which includes several planes and a campaign. This is the best starting point for newcomers. Get these on sale only because no DLC is worth the full price. If you want more depth and a steep learning curve buy a high fidelity plane (these are the expensive ones). If you're new it could take even 100 hours or more to learn it. Depending on the plane of course. I played flight sims before but I still barely know anything about my F-18 after more than 30 hours in it.

But don't go on a spending spree. Many DLC are early access, yes early access DLC and they're in development for years, early access could last a few years. Buy only if 50% off or lower (it never gets lower). At that price some of the DLC is worth it. The depth of high fidelity planes is amazing. Every switch, every system works and it's a challenge to fly these beasts.

There's no game mode so you'll need HOTAS to play this and a headtracking device or VR. Some people play with xbox controller but it must be a pain.
I wish it had a game mode. That would attract more people which means more money for developers. It wouldn't hurt anybody and some of those people would turn it off in the end. It's a game, it's not real. In some way real flying is easier because you have all the forces affecting you and your field of view is much better. I'm not saying it's harder to fly the game, obviously it's not but not having these forces makes it harder and easier in some situations.

There's also map DLC. They're so overpriced. Again not worth the full price. 50% off at best but even then some are not worth even that price. You get a map and that's it. No missions, no campaigns it's only a map.

Which brings us to content. There's a lack of content. While the maps are decent and look from average to good and planes are of great quality you can't say that about missions or campaigns. You have three ways to get these into the game:
1. Create it yourself. The mission/campaign editor is very complex but it allows you to create what you want. Again it has a steep learning curve and it's quite difficult to work with it but it's possible.
2. Buy campaigns. Yep. Buy a plane, buy a map, buy a campaign for that plane and that map. Campaigns are tied to DLC maps and planes.
3. Download user created missions/campaigns from ED (developer) website. Some of them are great, some are ok and some are terrible. Well like any other user generated content for any other game.

I only have experience playing single player, multiplayer doesn't interest me so can't say anything about it. But single player is average experience. Of course it feels rewarding when you succeed but the enemy AI is either completely dumb or insanely good. Your AI wingman are too. There are bugs, inconsistencies and so on. One day you can have an amazing experience and next day it's awful.
ATC is not very good. It's better than nothing but it should be improved.
There's no dynamic campaign. It should be a priority number one. What's the point of all the high quality planes when there's not enough content?

Pricing. It's terrible. Developers just raised the prices. They doubled it in some countries, the poorest countries. So for those people the old full price is now a 50% sale price. And I always consider a 50% off a real full price for these DLC. Seriously do not buy anything if it's not at least 50% off.

Graphics is hit and miss. At times the game looks beautiful. Plane models are nearly perfect. Cockpits and exterior, it's amazing. But maps and scenery are only ok. At certain lighting conditions it looks stunning and sometimes it looks like default X-plane 11 scenery which is ugly. They charge insane amount of money for the maps, they could do better.

Performance is decent. Like every other flight sim it has problems but overall performance is not too bad. I'm getting 40-115fps on 3440x1440 depending on the scenery and AI units on the map. I have 7700k, 2070s, 32GB ram, m2 ssd. The game a graphics engine overhaul.
Sounds are fine in my opinion. Well I don't know how the real jet sounds, never seen one up close never been in the cockpit.

DCS is one of those love/hate relationships. Sometimes it's amazing and sometimes it's terrible. Deep and complex simulation, geart flight model, decent and immersive graphics, but no dynamic campaigns, career, lack of content, terrible prices, no bundles for DLC, no good sales, paid campaigns and overpriced maps coupled with ok'ish AI. Well it doesn't hurt to try it, don't like it just uninstall, no loss.

Pros
  • Very complex and realistic, but rewarding
  • Great flight dynamics
  • Extremely fun
  • Looks beautiful at times

Cons
  • Nickel and diming for everything
  • Overpriced DLC, remember that real full price should be 50% off
  • Bland maps
  • Lack of content (missions, campaigns)
  • Average performance
  • No dynamic campaigns
  • Lacks game mode for people who are not very good, newbies and casual gamers

If you want a game that is more similar to War Thunder or World of War Planes, then this game is not for you. If you are looking for a game that requires a learning curve and tactics rather than going straight at an enemy, then this game is for you. The only thing you have to keep in mind in DCS is that you only receive 2 aircraft for free and 1 doesn't even have weapons, you will have to buy planes if you want anything other than the SU-25T Frogfoot.

Nope this module does not exist in your account. You have to now spend X amount of hours RE-DOWNLOADING the client FROM their site and install that bull**** through there OR buy the ****ing module again. Thanks Guys, Thank you for wasting my time now I appreciate it.

Was about to really get into DCS (especially during lockdown), DCS/Eagle Dynamics decided to gouge us and have a 25% price increase. Now an individual module is 2-3 times more expensive than most games. No thanks, moving on ESPECIALLY with Microsoft Flight Sim 2020 around the corner, not smart. Moving on. Ciao.

OVERPRICED, good simulation, good graphics, good experience, but, U$78(413,99 in brazilian currency, my country) for a unique DLC? Is that a joke? twice more expensive than games like RDR2 or something else, it doesn't worth at all...

I'm not a hardcore sim player, actually not a sim player at all, but I'm in love in this game mechanics. Not flying in Steam version doh as most sales apply only when bought directly from publisher. Bought FC3 and F-16C module so far and I'm pretty happy about these. It's true, that to buy whole content one must spend over 1k $, BUT in this game you don't need all of it. Especially if you are a beginner - you need one plane for a quite longer time. Learning how to handle these beasts is a game on it's own.

What I don't like and that's why I cannot recommend this game is it's business sale model. What aircraft suits you best, what version of it? Youtube is your only friend here as you can't even take an aircraft for a spin before buy. With such price tag and no refunds policy is an utter bull****.

Ok, so you got your favorite model that you wanna learn, but again... only one map to fly, unless... You guessed it right. pay another AAA price tag for a terrain that in my humble opinion is not worth the money. It's not like you have a much variety to choose from either. Most terrain is desert and there is a lot of same models redundancy. This actually is ok with me - this ain't MS Flight Simulator 2020 where you can flight for the very sake of sightseeing. These maps should be more a place to put your missions and they are good at it. Just not for the price. It's not like you will get a completely new experience flying in Persian Gulf. It's nice for a while, but then it's still mostly the desert...

Also multiplayer forces enabling IPv6.

Choose wisely with your own wallet!

DCS is, make no mistake a simulator, not a game.

I've always had an interest in military aviation, every year im always at the Royal International Air Tattoo and museums, seeing all these magnificent aircraft, whether they're static or taking off full after burner.

DCS puts you in the cockpit of some of these, and although the game is free to play that's kind of misleading I'd say the 'free' aspect of it should be considered more of a demo, but very good allowing you to make your mind up.

I see lots of reviews criticising the cost etc, yet some people fail to realise, the mirage 2000 module for example, was used not too long ago by the Escadron De Chasse 2/5 Ile de France to help train pilots, stressing my initial point of it being a simulation not a game and although modules are not perfect and will never give you the sensation of forces acting on you, you still get the closest possible you can get whilst sat in your own home.

Everyone has different criteria on what makes this game enjoyable for them, for myself it's the aspect of donning a vr headset, looking around the cockpit for various buttons to start my aircraft from cold, to getting it up in the air, you really get a sense of accomplishment going through a start up procedure rather than pressing a single key and thinking yep its started now. I myself am still new to the game and have not touched multiplayer so I cannot give you any points on that sorry

The game is incredibly complex, but so is a multi million pound fighter jet? It always confuses me when people say this about DCS.

To really get the most of the game a VR headset is definitely recommended, you really get a sense of scale and actually feel the confines of the cockpit. Beefy computer specs as well is also important, regardless of using VR or not. I highly recommend not spending anything to start off with and just download the base game and see for yourself how well your pc can run it, I'm pretty sure they are always looking at ways to optimise the game (even though it can take a while)

I guess a basic summary would be:

A highly realistic yet rewarding combat aircraft simulation, where a aptitude to learn and interest in aviation will allow you to get the most out of this game

P.s youtube will be your best friend on knowing what to do with all the buttons and switches!

Game is full of half finished features and runs like garbage even on modern hardware.

The devs instead of fixing the issues just release more unfinished content. The game's performance has been degrading with every update, multiplayer is borderline unplayable.

I have been playing this DCS World for years now with over 188 hours played. I am 64 years old and I had a previous stroke so the more complex SIM part of the game is too difficult so I only play GAME mode with labels to help me see friendly and enemy units. I use the auto start and auto stop when I'm stuck. The most played is the Black Shark 2 and UH -1H but I recently got the WW2 mods that I'm looking forward to play. I don't play online that much as most servers are for SIM mode making it too difficult to play. I would recommend this game to all seniors. I also enjoy playing Arma 3 and Silent Hunter 5.

As a thirty year pilot, there is no other sim out there that puts me back in my baby - the F/A-18C. The whole DCS environment is a blast. It cost a bit to enjoy the most detailed of aircraft models, but once you fly them, hear them, see the deck of the carrier in foul weather and land ILS, you'll know where the expense went! Worth it!!!!

If you already know what you're doing in the jet DCS is extremely easy to set up and fly.
Don't let people tell you that you can not fly with a keyboard, mouse, and xbox controller.
DCS makes it easy to make modifier button on the Xbox That makes a minimum of 36 possible button functions.
I also have one button to handle the Lalt+C free camera, clickable camera on the controller.
The keyboard, easily handles all the other little task. I have set up the NUM pad and arrow keys to mostly handle every task of the ICP in the F-16 and the mouse is for viewing and clicking....duh...
If you're just starting a 'study flight sim' DCS really makes it easy for you in the pause menu where you can setup controls on the fly,and a list of every command and its key, it is easy to navigate to what you need fast in the drop down/search bar.
Add in a auto start which will start the aircraft for you and spell it out for you in real time..then you should be able to get flying..

Highly recommend! I am a current airline pilot (typed in the Emb-170/190) and flight simulator enthusiast and find this to be one of the most realistic simulators on the market. Although I've never flown a fighter in real life, its stunning how complex the aircraft systems are to master and from what I can tell the flight dynamics for most of the aircraft seem very spot on. If you're looking for an arcade type combat simulator this is not for you, you will be very disappointed/bored/frustrated-as there is a steep learning curve right from the start. If you're willing to learn how to learn how to operate these planes down to the switch along with game settings and mission editor its amazing.

System specs seem to be fairly practical..I am running from a laptop I purchased end of 2019, HP Envy (non-gaming computer) on medium/low graphic settings, but honestly its still beautiful and am getting great fps. Graphics still beat my Xbox lol...

Downloaded: F-14, F-16, F/A-18...can't go wrong with any of them although F-16 seems to be my favorite so far, and F-14 is by far most complex but a beaut to fly!

Lastly, I've watched this simulator evolve over the years and it keeps getting better and better. Lots of updates/Betas/new aircraft added. Can't seem to get enough of this sim...you wont be disappointed!!

I love this game! BUT, I hate what I am seeing too. Simply and plainly, you need lots of money to enjoy this game. This game offers an extremely immersive and realistic experience in the cockpit, but at a heavy cost. You need VR or headtracking to be effective in a dogfight. This game was MADE for dogfighting. if you don't have either of those platforms/peripherals, you are toast. There are 80 dollar flight models on this game. I eventually did pay for one because it came in a bundle, and it IS my favorite airframe, however, that is well past the value of most complete simulator games. I bought another airframe for much less. It came with no training missions whatsoever.

So now I have some airframes that cost more than most games are worth after years. I am learning an airframe well, but there are no missions regarding arming that aircraft for a mission. Am I required to leave the game to learn how to do this? Do I have to ask around how to do this?

I want to do introductory missions in a single-player setting so I may properly learn how to play missions in this game, without the pressure of a random online peer coaxing me through it all. I see that there are campaigns. This is good, and only for 10 dollars...I grimace, but I think it may be worth it-HOLD UP, WAIT A MINUTE, what is this? In order to use the campaign-the only campaign you offer for this airframe...I have to buy another DLC. This terrain DLC is worth half of the cost of my airframe at 40 dollars. So now I am supposed to pay an additional 50 dollars for campaign setting, and learning the game effectively...egregious...I still haven't learned how to arm the bird for war. I have already paid about 100 dollars at this point...egregious...The peripherals can augment how you feel about it too, but that is on a case by case basis.
