You play as a washed up gumshoe just trying to get by when one of your clients is found dead. The police believe it was suicide, but as you dig deeper you realize that far more is at play. As you follow the case you will be introduced to many different individuals. Decide wisely how you interact with them. It could be the difference of a bullet to the head or a long passionate night with a beautiful lady.

Depraved Awakening is a story focused adult visual novel. The choices you make, whether they are big or small will have impact on how the adventure will unfold. With each choice leading to a myriad of different endings. Do, you play as the righteous detective just trying to find the truth, or do you let your inner demons take over.

As you dig into your investigation you will come across a wide array of characters, each with their own personalities and backgrounds for you to explore. Some may be willing allies, others tricking you with deceit. Best to tread carefully.

With hours of content on a single playthrough and multiple branching paths there is much to explore.

This is an intriguing game/novel with a few twists and turns to it's plot.
The sexual scene are well done and to a high graphical standard.
I fully enjoyed playing this, and think most people who like these types of Games/Novels will too.
I can't wait for a follow up.

My favourite adult games on Steam are now, in order: Cockwork Industries, Being a DIK, Depraved Awakening, Breeders of the Nephelym, Lust Epidemic, The Sims 4 with Wicked Whims. This is a very good visual novel though, Being a DIK sucks story-wise, DA doesn't, but the former just had more, hotter, and more dynamic scenes, so it barely wins out.

I think Steam has this cognitive dissonance about being an American (=>prudish) company and having porn games in their catalogue. I'm constantly getting temporary screenshot upload bans because they're so racy and the community guidelines do say 'no porn'. I don't get why people who feel offended view (or even can view?) my content and report it.

One of the best Adult VN without any doubt.
Of course it's an Adult VN, so expect explicit scenes, though, not the average ones as the rest of the Adult VN than can be found around Steam. They are spicy, full of erotically arousing dialogues and the visuals follow suit, many different options lead to different scenes and sequences, the quality is great and the character are varied in personality, body type, age and looks.
Once said the obvious reason why we buy these type of VN, let's get into detail of the amazing features that make this Adult VN outstand from the rest.
The story is gripping from the very beginning, falling for every single female character becomes habitual, up to a point that you don't know which one you prefer to end up with, therefore, multiple plays are in order to fulfil all the desired possibilities. Thanks to the Scene Collection option, you are able to rekindle every scene you have unlock.
At some point, I was surprised when I found myself caught up with the story instead of the typical skimming through dialogues toward explicit scenes. The story itself guides you toward them and they have a natural occurrence.
Your choice matters, different endings, different scenes, different development of the plot.
Undoubtedly I recommend this Adult VN, you'll play it over and over.

scenes are good but the game is unfinished, had it fully completed with every achievement in 10 hours. most of the characters are not worth remembering, story is kinda dark and depressing. It also leaves you hanging when all is said and done. cannot recommend until it is finished which it seems it never will be. Devs have already abandoned it and moved onto other projects. Do not buy unless on massive discount

At first, I had a hard time getting into this game, not going to lie. But as I progressed further through the story I found myself entangled emotionally with all the characters as well as the story. In short, I loved the game. I will definitely make an effort to play through it several times over to get all of the endings. Well done Phillygames.

Super sexy with a great story. Like its pretty much porn except the story line is actually captivating and creative. At first I was bummed that there are no voices. But.... then I figured out its great fun to have my wife role play the female roles while I role play the male roles. It becomes sorta like an interactive movie. ... and with the sexy stuff in this game.... trust me ... your going to love hearing your lady read these lines out loud......and I bet her saying them out loud gets her all worked up...... works for me at least. ;)

Very good visual novel with animations. Amazing graphics and story, worthy the price. You should really try this one it's very similarly to Acting Lessons or Being a DIK and these were amazing aswell.

tl;dr
Adult Visual Novel. Great story. I expected an average story at best, but MIND BLOWN. Choices matter, great visuals.
Achievements require multiple playthroughs and some „try and error“.

Story
In Depraved Awakening, you are a private eye. One of your clients happens to die. You start investigating and come across the suspicion it was no suicide. If it really was or not will be revealed after playing a bit, but the story develops furthermore and is written very well.
Due to the different possibilities and outcomes, you may want to play the game multiple times.

Gameplay
Since it is a visual novel without any combat encounter, only the mouse is needed to play. Click to skip text if necessary, use the mousewheel to scroll back and re-read or make a different decision if you have missclicked.
Your choices influence your stats with npcs. There are stats like score and lust and depending on the stats, you might get different/additional options. This is also explained ingame.

Looks
The game looks great, the ladies are gorgeous. The sex scenes are going from elegant to lewd. Only downside is that most of them are only pictures and when there is movement, it looks a bit weird. It still looks great, but it needs to be mentioned.
There is no voice acting, but the background sound provides a perfect atmosphere as you expect it for an adult private eye story.

Achievements
The achievements require multiple playthroughs and some „try and error“ unless you use a guide.

Conclusion
Depraved Awakening is an adult visual novel starring a private eye whose client dies just at the beginning of the story. As the story unfolds furthermore, a lot of things are going to happen.
Introduction of new characters feels balanced very well. There are not too much to make it confusing but also enough to keep it interesting.
The different possibilities and outcomes provide some replayability, which is also needed if you want to unlock all achievements.
When I started this game, I expected an average visual novel with nice looking scenes, but I was actually blown away by how great and engaging the story is.

Very recommendable if you want to play an adult visual novel with a great story!

Hilarious. Entertaining. honest and unapologetic, this game is good. it's a VN with multiple endings so have fun, if you want to be a dirty dirty woody allen, go ahead. if you dont, then dont. Also, every guy should show this to their gf, if they have one. The compulsion to bang bang like a drum is real, the drug is a hormone called testosterone. lol. just having fun.
Also fun are the negative reviewers. Oh my only choice was to have sex. (the heck you say?) they leave out the part where they only get off on blurred genitals, tentacles and rope bondage. Holy paladins, saints and hipsters dont buy this game. Everyone else, have fun.

I had to try this game after playing the more recent City of Broken Dreams.

Depraved Awakening feels like a good footstep to what City of Broken Dreams has become but the Depraved Awakening story feels slow at times and the flow can be off.

Also this part is just my preference but Depraved Awakening is very dark in disturbing ways that may not appeal to all audiences and did not appeal to me and made me feel uncomfortable during some moments.

If you want to get a feel of the first game that got this company started after playing City of Broken Dreams first then it may be worth a look if the price is right.

If you have not played City of Broken Dreams than I highly recommend looking into that game because City of Broken Dreams in my opinion is one of the best created in this genre.

Let me first state that I am very positively impressed what this creator can do by himself. second is that I played this game after 'city of Broken Dreamers', which is quite a lot better.

Now, the overall quality of this game is okay'ish: The 3d renders look smooth, the interactions feel natural, there is a pretty worked out plot...
but all that being said, when I finished the story, and I went through it a couple of times, it left me kinda neutral. If I had to name one issue with it, it's flow. It simply didn't had the same smooth flow that his cyberpunk game has. it resulted in a rather chaotic story with sex thrown in here and there.

I mean... it's fun, and for 8 euro or so, is it as fun as 4 beers? sure, but maybe there are some visual novels out there you might want to try before this one.

I had this game in my wish list for a while and was not sure about it...well took a chance and was not disappointed. A interesting private detective story, with good twist and turns. Lots of sexy girls and multiple paths make it replay able to try to get all the unlocks without being too boring. A few different endings keeps you interested also in replay. Graphics are good and the spicy scenes are excellent. I have a few hours in and still need to unlock a few scenes which is nice to know that you have to work a little to get all the goodies. I highly recommend this game to any one that enjoys a good adult VN at a good price. This from my past games like Being a DICK, Acting lessons and Man of the house.

coming from BEING A DIK / ACTING LESSONS. i can recommend this one, not the most interactive games out there, but the story is sure very interesting and there is many outcome depend on our choice, i could give 9/10 for story, but it's just not really interactive (music and sound need improvement, it should be there on entire game not just partly, also graphic should be more lively). it's 7.5/10 that can be improved to 8-10

If you are familiar with Dr PinkCake and his two VNs (Acting Lessons and Being a DIK) then you should feel right at home with Depraved Awakening. How so? The writer of DA has shamelessly ripped off the UI from PinkCake games, so every single time you play this game you will be reminded of how DA is only just a game trying to live up to the expectations of a master.

For those who have no idea what I'm talking about, Dr PinkCake is a writer who made those two VNs I noted above. Both have overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam and they very much deserve that rating. They are truly masterpieces, and calling them adult VNs is really harsh because, in reality, the adult portion of them is really not the whole point. They have beautifully crafted stories and characters that I've never felt so attached to before in any novel, show, or movie.

With all that being said, Depraved Awakening is this one writer's (let's call him Phil judging by his name listed on here) attempt at making a PinkCake VN. Does he do a good job of this? Kinda.

It is very obvious that this is Phil's first VN. The writing is amateurish, the narrative itself is good, but the actual dialogue and core components need serious tweaking. I wrote an in-depth spoiler review in the discussions of this game where I elaborate more on these subjects, but without giving spoilers, I'll just mention what is wrong with the story in this game:

-No well written protagonist and antagonist. They are defined, you can identify them, but there is only one very basic and elementary reason as to why they are against each other. You are obviously the protagonist, and the antagonist is your antagonist because the plot requires him to be. In reality, you and the antagonist should get along, but because we wouldn't have a story if you two did, you don't get along. This goes hand-in-hand with the overall theme of BDSM in Depraved Awakening, as it is the fundamental style of 99% of the adult scenes in this VN. Without telling you too much, both the protagonist and antagonist are into submission/domination type stuff, so the motivations and justifications for their actions are muddied and don't make sense.

-There is a lot of adult scenes in this game, which is good if you are only looking to get off and have not care about the story, but if you do actually want to get invested into the story, the sechs pretty much gets in the way of that. The problem isn't necessarily the quantity of sechs scenes, it's the purpose of the sechs scenes. In PinkCake VNs, sechs between two characters happened for a distinct narrative purpose, and it developed the character as well as progressing the story. Most, if not all sechs scenes in Depraved Awakening are purely there to get the player aroused, there's rarely any good narrative function sechs serves within the story. Again, this isn't objectively bad, maybe you do want to play this for the adult content, go right ahead, but as someone who is very passionate about writing, this is problematic for me.

-The pacing in the game is too fast. My first game lasted 4 hours, compared to 6-7 hours for Acting Lessons and 8-9 hours of Being a DIK. Note that Depraved Awakening has FAR MORE sechs scenes then the latter two, and they're pretty lengthy too, but we still end up with a shorter game. Even thought the mystery itself is pretty good, the story happens far too quickly, and there's almost no downtime at all. At all times, you are consistently moving through the main story without stopping. This leaves no room for character development outside of small chitchats, which is a shame because there was a lot of potential for me to grow attached to some characters, but I couldn't because I barely spent any time with them. Even in the dialogue leading up to sechs scenes, every character involved just forgets about the outside world and focuses on the sechs as if nothing else is happening. This ties to the previous point that the sechs is pointless on a narrative scale, all it does is fulfill the idea that this is an adult VN.

-Finally, just a quick note on show don't tell, a rule where you don't want to simply tell the audience about stuff, you want to show them stuff. This applies mostly in cinema where you can see things (duh), and because we are talking about a VISUAL novel, show don't tell applies. Phil has a problem with this, and often times we are left with characters just blurting out exposition as we stare at their blank expression and dialogue box. There is one really good example of Phil embracing show don't tell, but it is unfortunately only that one example, and nothing else. I can't explain it because that would mean spoilers.

In conclusion, this is a pretty good VN. If you're new to the genre, chances are you'll like it as long as you're comfortable with this BDSM style (Phil keeps it subtle at most times). If you've played a PinkCake VN, don't get your hopes up. The ending is nothing like Acting Lessons, and the characters aren't as likable as Being a DIK, but it is a good stopgap between now and whenever Being a DIK Season 2 comes out.

Alright...so to start this old dick/noire feel is great! The feel of solving a case and the unknown in this game is good too. Some of the plot twists were easy to see because the story telling was so good you could see in advance the people that would turn on you. Some of them I didn't see coming at all....

I am looking forward to see how many endings there may be and the number of girls that can be still with you. Over all i would recommend this game for anyone looking for a good thriller with a load of sex involved. Nothing like Acting lessons or being a dik but has loads of charm and animations that you will enjoy. the music really gets you in some of the seens to boot.

8.5/10 i look forward to more from this dev

First I want to start by saying that I have not completed the game... yet I guess.

So far all of the erotic scenes seem really forced and It does not feel like I have a choice in the matter, and I do not find the characters attractive at all.

I am familiar with PinkCakes work and I really like them, comparing this games to this PinkCake would definitely win, also there were no animated scenes so far in the game and I do not feel like that is going to change so that is another down for me.

I read in reviews on other VN games that this game Is good so I wanna give It a chance but so far I am fairly disappointed.

I do not want to give the game a thumbs down since there was a lot of effort put into it, maybe Its just not my type of VN.

I will update the review if I change my opinion.

My favorite 'adult' game in years!

The 3d models are a but rough and uncanny valley, but its a nice game. The girls and the setting are great (if a bit cliche, the ex-cop detective stumbles over a crime involving a set of women abut too eager for sex). But how much unique plot do you need in a game you play with one hand? Kudos to the developer!

An adult visual novel, this game reads as a noir crime drama. You are a private investigator, who through no fault of your own, gets pulled into a web of darkness when your most recent client dies from a multi-story fall. Since much of your payment was still pending at the time, you decide to look into it. And well… you open a can of worms that is quite large indeed.

Seems there is a very depraved sex ring going on in the city. With some influential backers, and some cops on the take. And a lot of women are caught up in this case. Many of which seem to like you for your… personality. Including your virgin step-daughter. There are a few routes to finish, a couple of them rather fatal for you. You could end up with one of these women… or two.

Decent enough for the price. And a lot of that seems to have gone into animation…

A little edgy with Adult content and graphics but a great game that grabs you and makes you want to play to the end and then have another try with different choices. Good story and graphics. If you like an adult game with adult themes and graphics then this is the one. No painful maps and cartoon characters, just a great game.

Depraved Awakening really managed to nail the noir private eye niche it was going for. From the music to some of the dialogue to the plot it was all well done in that regard. All that was missing was a lot more rain; liquor and the right voice for the role. The plot was entertaining and kept me interested. I wish the main villain had some more backstory to him. I also wish that the character of “The Dragon” had more time as she was my favourite. There is a good amount of choices to be made and I felt like I could take the story where I wanted to more or less. The music wasn’t just well done but fit the scenes it was used in well. There is a scene later in the game where it is cutting from a funeral to a police chase back and forth and it is intertwined nicely. Those who just want an erotic game will get their fill but those who want a bit more have something to be offered as well. The game could have used a bit more backstory on the organization you’re going up against.

I played Depraved Awakening on Linux. It never crashed on me. I didn’t notice any spelling errors. There was one incident where the dialogue was being attributed to my character but I know it was being said by another and that the name had been mixed up. The game opens on the wrong monitor but this is a bug with the Ren’Py engine not the game. It uses Ren’Py version 7.2.2.491 and I played version 1.0 of the game.

Good game.
This is an erotic visual novel for adults with a surprisingly thrilling story. The main character is a private investigator and decisions do not only influence the relations with the girls in the game, but also the story.
The girls are hot and the graphics are good. Most of the erotic scenes are rough with dirty talk, there could be be more variety.

It took me 6-7 hours to play the story & read everything.
3 hrs more to get 100% achievements & 3-4 hrs to unlock all 44 scenes.

This is the only other visual novel I've played besides Acting Lessions and Being a DIK.
Depraved Awakening is quite different in terms of subject matter: you taking you on the role of an investigator going down a dark path to expose the operations of a criminal organisation. I loved the theme and atmosphere the game presents and the writing is good enough that I started to care for the characters. Mostly the storytelling is good but some of the dialogue can seem quite juvenile and jarring pulling you out of the narrative.

The artwork and rendering is beautiful, however the few animations it has seem quite wooden. Almost as though they're lacking some frames, so they're far from smooth.

Overall it's nowhere near as polished as Acting Lessons or Being a DIK but I'd still recommend it if you enjoyed those.

Not as great as Acting Lessons, but man what ride. Some of the dialog is a bit off...but the story overall is definitely worth a play through.

This is the adventures of a private detective as a 3D art visual novel. There is action, drama, and explicit sex. The motivations are not always realistic, but that did not detract from my enjoyment. The 3D art is very well done.

Good plot with multiple endings. Animation is decent with detailed character models. Some amount of work went into actually making you care about the characters. Dark, gritty, sexually twisted. It was a pleasant surprise.

Took a chance on this visual novel, having not followed the Patreon or anything else by this author, and found myself pleasantly surprised. Writing is excellent and compelling, and the story manages to throw in a few surprises. H-scenes (uncensored) are plentiful and high-quality. Overall art, especially the women, is great. Dialogue has a few typos, but nothing major that breaks immersion. There are branching paths and replay value seems high, because a single playthrough managed to unlock only about 1/3 of scenes. A single playthrough took me about 4 hours, and I tend to click through the dialogue pretty quickly. Also, the music choices fit the scenes' moods surprisingly well. If this is on sale price, go for it; money well spent and entertaining for sure.

This is a great visual novel....er cough......for the right person.
Pros:
The writing and the artwork are both very good. Story mores along a a brisk pace, offers plenty of opportunity for sexual relations, while following a logical plot with logical motives. The story will lure you in ....you'll find yourself making questionable or downright depraved choices. Lots of moderate kinks in this gem. Finally, the creators take plenty of time to completely wrap the story up. The story kept going long after i expected it to stop......there were zero loose ends....I got invested in the story and this was a very nice payoff for me.
Cons:
My cons are not really cons per se. This is what it is and not what its not ....what it's not. It's not an open world game with animated scenes. There is a small amount of animation/movement in the sex acts....barely enough to aid .....er cough.....with immersion.
I recommend this and hope that this team puts out more products like this.

Just finished it....What a great game...Little dark is an understatement...The story was excellent ..I will replay this one.
