Über das Spiel

Planetbase ist ein Strategiespiel, in dem du eine Gruppe Weltraumsiedler anführst, die einen Außenposten auf einem fernen Planeten errichten will.

Im Spiel übernimmstdu du die Rolle des Basisarchitekten und -verwalters und bist dafür zuständig, den Kolonisten zu sagen, wo sie die Strukturen bauen sollen, die ihr Überleben gewährleisten. Du musst sicherstellen, dass sie ständig mit Sauerstoff, Nahrung und Wasser versorgt sind, damit sie überleben.

Sie werden Nahrungsmittel anbauen, Strom produzieren, Mineralien abbauen, Bots herstellen und eine selbstständige Kolonie aufbauen.

Auch wenn das Spiel nicht als Simulation geplant ist, so sind die Funktionsweisen eingängig und basieren auf den Herausforderungen, die der Bau einer solchen Kolonie auf einem neuen Planten mit sich bringen würde.

Besonderheiten:
  • Drei verschiedene Planeten mit unterschiedlichen Lebensbedingungen und steigendem Schwierigkeitsgrad.
  • Nutze Solar- und Windenergie (sofern vorhanden), um die Strukturen der Basis mit Energie zu versorgen.
  • Pflanze Gemüse in Hydrokulturen an und synthetisiere Retortenfleisch, um deine Bevölkerung zu ernähren.
  • Baue Rohstoffe ab oder produziere sie, verarbeite sie weiter und stelle dann damit Waren her, um eine Herstellungskette aufzubauen.
  • Reguliere die Immigration von Kolonisten mit Bedacht, damit du die Leute mit den richtigen Fähigkeiten hast.
  • Überstehe Katastrophen wie Meteoreinschläge, Sandstürme oder Sonneneruptionen und verteidige deine Basis gegen Eindringlinge.
  • Automatisiere deine Basis, indem du deine eigenen Bots erstellst, die dir bei den mühsameren Aufgaben helfen.
  • Lasse deine Kolonie von einigen ersten Pionieren zu einer lebhaften Planetenbasis mit hunderten von Kolonisten anwachsen.

Hart aber fair beschreibt das Spiel am besten. Wer auf Aufbausimulationen, Ressourcen-Management und Herausforderungen in Form von regelmäßigen Rückschlägen steht, sollte sich das Spiel kaufen. Es dauert etwas bis man das System hinter dem Spiel durchschaut. Aber wenn es mal gut läuft in der eigenen Basis...dann macht es auch Spaß.

Das Spiel macht einfach keinen Spass. Das Balancing ist schlecht, v.a. was die Versorgung mit Bioplastik angeht, welche nicht sinnvoll gewährleistet werden kann. Man kann zwar Räumen eine höhere Priorität geben, das heißt aber nicht, dass sich daran gehalten wird. Ein langfristiger Spielspass ist aufgrund der auf Mangelverwaltung ausgelegten Mechanik nicht gegeben. Hat man sich halbwegs an die Umwelt angepasst kommt z.B. ein Haufen Bewaffneter ohne jeglichen Zusammenhang, einfach so und erschießt alle. Warum? Offensichtlich weil es geht und damit der Spieler auch ja Wachen anheuert.
Ein weiterer Punkt, dass, zumindest für mcih, nicht ersichtlich war, welcher Händler wie viel von welcher Ressource ankauft und was er dafür verkauft.

Bei Planetbase landen wir mit einer kleinen Raumkapsel auf einem fremden Planeten. Ziel ist die Kolonialisierung. Es gibt verschiedene Planeten zur Auswahl, die unterschiedliche Bedingungen aufweisen. Unsere Raumkapsel beinhaltet das Nötigste um unsere Kolonie ans laufen zu bringen, darunter ein paar Arbeiter, Roboter und Rohstoffe. Die grafische Benutzeroberfläche ist einfach und übersichtlich gestaltet. Man findet sich schnell zurecht. Die verschiedenen animierten Objekte und Gebäude sind schön anzusehen und es macht Spaß zu bauen und einzurichten. Wenn man nach ein paar Stunden die recht schwierige Anfangsphase überwunden hat, kann man sich auf eine lebhafte Kolonie freuen, die ihre Waren selbst herstellt und sogar Besucher von anderen Planeten bekommt. Durch fehlende Aufgaben und wenige Gebäudetypen gibt es keine wirkliche Langzeitmotivation.

Es könnte ein gutes Spiel sein aber leider hat man bisher versäumt, das es sinnvoller wäre, wenn man Arbeiter manuell einem Arbeitsplatz zuweisen kann, zudem kommt noch das man nur sehr wenig Informationen bekommt, was das Wohlbefinden der Siedler betrifft. Mann bekommt eine Nachricht, wenn Rohstoffe fehlen. Aber, wenn ein Arbeiter verletzt wird nicht. Mann sollte unter Infos einen Button haben wo man JEDEN einzelnen Arbeiter sehen kann und ihn auch auswählen kann, um dann Detail Infos zu bekommen. Ich hoffe das da noch nachgeholt wird.

I don't mind the game but some time you end up wasting hours just because of bad balancing and path-finding.
Also the sound it makes when you run out of energy is the most annoying ever and IT NEVER STOPS.

I don't know what the deal is with this game. You're building your base, expanding your facilities, and all of a sudden everyone just stops working. They stop mining, they stop producing parts or materials, and they stop repairing or building because they have no supplies. Then everyone just dies. Even if you prioritize the production of the materials you need, nobody works on them. I give up.

This game is one I've gone back to over and over. The gameplay mechanics and designs are simple compared to others in this genre category, so it's easy to understand what's needed for your colony to survive instead of having to worry about tons of resource distribution like other games similar to this one. It builds on itself in difficulty for the four worlds you choose from, so once you master the first world, you can easily decide to choose the next and test your skill at the existing game knowledge you already have. I like this genre type because it doesn't require me to be at my computer at all times, but be wary of the mechanics like storms and intruders that might leave you struggling upon your return. Overall I give it an 85/100

AI is garbage and would rather eat chicken nuggets (or whatever the space alternative is) than fix the wind turbines keeping them alive. I had so many unfixable logistics problems is was unreal. There was no way I could tell my stupid colonists to not be complete idiots as you can't force people to do things. Devs don't seem to care about this at all.

Game is a joke it seems to be designed so that the biologists are last to get a meal therefore they die first and as they are the only ones who can produce food the cycle goes on and on until they all dead and you have to start again. Even with a high amount of biologists set to arrive via ships.

This game is awful and genuinely plays like a 45% finished promo game. Many of the missing feature have a toggle but simply do not do anything. This game has been out long enough to patch a lot of issues away so i can not imagine what this was like at start. Supporting garbage like this is why so many game feel like unfinished nonsense.

I like the idea of the game, and the game play, but the moronic colonists have NO sense of self preservation. If they are unhappy, they will gladly sit on their hands and starve to death or asphyxiate because they won't do ANY work, even if VITAL SYSTEMS are failing. That is both unrealistic and extremely annoying and makes it almost impossible to reach a viable colony threshold.

I don't like this game because once your base gets up and running, the people barely do the work they are supposed to do. The robots are mostly idle. The specialist barely do their jobs and things you try to get done, you can't get done. You can't even manipulate the people to do what you need them to do, like work. smh

Planetbase is a older game, it is a great starting point for any other space sim out there. The game runs smooth, is inexpensive and provides a great base with chalenges that will keep the fun going for hours. Totally Blockhead APPROVED!!!

I suspect why colonists don't bring the vegetables and meat to the meal maker by themselves (even though there are many of it in bio-domes), so they're going to died. Is it bugs? Or something that I haven't know to solve this thing. Help me pls

Its more of a stress simulator then a game, you have to spend your whole time balancing everything or everyone dies and even if you get a reasonable size colony a random event occurs and everyone dies. Then you need you colonists to prioritize something or they die, they will just die because prioritize does not seem to work. Save your money buy Surviving Mars.

I'm not sure why this game has such poor reviews, it's a simple yet fun sci-fi city builder style game, and it doesn't make it overly easy where it basically plays itself, it's challenging but not overly so, a fun way to kill some time.

The AI is so stupid it has me wanting to yell at the computer. For example, I had a Biodome that had stacks of vegetables that just needed to be put into the food processor in the canteen right next to it. But the starving colonist would rather check the canteen at the whole other side of the base instead (Which was a far way as I had a large base at the time), and starved to death walking over there. Its just hard to watch these stupid AI's starving to death at the same time there is plenty of food RIGHT THERE!

I love base building games but found this one impossible to enjoy. I've tried to start it up a few times, most recently I gave it about a three hour run over a couple days.

The game itself is a fun concept, but there are several issues:
- You cannot modify existing buildings to increase their size as you get more colonists
- If you delete a building you cannot build in the spot where the building was deleted
- The above two issues lead to sprawling bases that take your colonists forever to move across, which is exacerbated by the poor AI

Overall I would not recommend.

A relatively simple base building game where you find yourself starting a colony on a far-flung rock, and are forced to carefully balance growth, spacing, and the needs of the colony.

I enjoyed the game for it's simplicity, but it definitely struggles a bit with death spirals if you find your colony unbalanced. At the same time, it's hard to make a simulation game that isn't too easy but also allows for players to learn during each play through.

Definitely worth picking up on a sale.

Planetbase is obviously the precursor to Dawn of Man, so if you've tried that game and didn't enjoy the mechanics you can safely skip Planetbase. The resource system is simpler and there are fewer manufacturing limits to manage, but Planetbase is much less forgiving due to production lead times and various processes competing for the same material inputs. Worker specialization (e.g. a biologist cannot become an engineer or worker) and concerns about power/water/oxygen also limit your options and make it harder to react to any developing problem. Weather and various disasters are always a concern too, so planning ahead really matters. If DoM is mostly about not over-harvesting or wasting workers/storage on resources you have too much of, Planetbase is the exact opposite (mostly about dealing with scarcity). It lacks some polish and they really missed the opportunity to add more planet types, but mods offer a lot of interesting scenarios to keep things interesting. Worth a look if you can find it on sale.

The AI of the colonists is absolutely ridiculous. I had one day without wind power which led to a crop shortage, but my biologists were too hungry to grow new ones, which led to everyone starving. The colonists don't know how to take care of themselves and you can't do anything to guide them except prioritize certain buildings, which they ignore anyways.

Over all I do think its a good game, but the AI really needs some work, there have been too many times my colony had tons of food, but the colonists just didn't eat. its an upsetting way to end a play-through

A simple and challenging game of colonization. I like games of starting from scratch and building up and this fits the bill. You start off with a lander and resources and have to reach survival level before your people die.

Everything in this game is basic and that works. You don't have to micromanage much as the people do all the work. The graphics are simple, but still pretty. The gameplay is challenging but not frustrating. I've played hundreds of hours of Planetbase on GOG.com, but it has no community or downloadable stuff so I bought it on Steam.

No control over the crew and robots. They just run up and down the corridors even when specific priorities are inputted. They mine the high priority ore, but the the ore is left at the mine and not taken the to the metal processor to make the high priority metal ( similar problem moving starch to bio-plastic processor ). You get the stupid hint about saving resources, but metal and bio-plastic are not in the resources management control page. You would think that the crew AI would be more rational given that their lives are about to end?

I haven't been a big gamer. I am 63 years old, and wanted to learn how to play PC games so that I can share fun time with my Grandsons.

If anyone has some tips and reasons why this game has this paradox that I just can not figure out please let me know.

I've played this for 12 hours at this point. I feel like I saw everything the game had to offer in the first 20 minutes but didn't actually realize that until i was about 2 and a half hours in. The next 10 hours were spent mostly in disbelief as I tried to squeeze some fun out the game and get my money's worth.

The base building is extremely shallow in terms of tactics and your long term success has more to do with the randomly generated layout of the map than your actual gameplay, my most successful colony was ended by mountains blocking further building rather than an actual problem.
There is no research tree or sense of progression, you start with numbers in every resource/stat you will have in a session and the most you can do is make them go up or down
The pathing and AI in general is serviceable at best, settlers routinely died because they refused to come back inside the base for reasons I don't believe they or their gods could explain to me. I feel in control of this game the way I feel in control of the fish in a fish tank.
Graphically this is really just very okay. I don't think games need to always be pushing the boundaries of graphics or art or whatever but this does nothing. Visually the best this game has to offer is its menus.

I was looking for something to play when I spotted this in my games list and realized after playing it for 12 hours I had not only forgotten that I owned it but that I had even ever played it or knew what it was and now that I have the only thought I'm really left with besides what I've left above is that I regret buying it

There's not enough game here. If you're looking for a casual base building game this is gonna leave you frustrated, if you're looking for a strategic space management sim you're going to be very bored and if you're looking for a good game you're gonna regret the money you spent on this.

If you gotta get it grab it on sale, its not the worst thing I've ever played but its a serious contender for blandest

This game has been on my wishlist for i don't know how many years, it being one of the games that got me into gaming through youtube. I held off on buying it due to alot of negative reviews about the A.I (I will get to that as well), and because i thought: ''Well its an old game i don't think i will still enjoy it''. Let me tell you, i love it. It was a big mistake of me to not buy it earlier. It is a very simple, but challenging and unforgiving colony simulator which i would defenitly rank as one of the better ones, as i have played alot.

HOWEVER, there are some things wrong with it, and let me get to the A.I thing first as there are lots of negative reviews about it. The A.I is indeed incredibly stupid as you cannot manually command colonists, However i have personally not ran into any problems because of this; it is actually quite enjoyable as it makes the game a little bit harder in terms of micromanagement. If you are holding off on buying it because of the negative reviews about this, i would say: Ignore them.

Another issue i have found is the way you get colonists. You need to keep the stats of your colonists high (food, water, happines etc.) Which counts towards a welfare meter. If this is high enough you will get new colonists frequently. While i understand this system, it may sometimes make the game unplayable. For example:
I started up a base, beautifull spot and the run went incredibly. Then suddenly 1 meteor strikes my bio dome killing every single one of my biologists (9 of them). Because of this no more food was being produced, which reduced the ''hunger'' stat of every colonist i had, thus decreasing the welfare rating to ''very poor''. Due to this i had no biologists and was not able to get a single other one because i could not get in anymore colonists. This essentially ment everybody starved and game was over.
I get it, and i get the system but i feel like it could have been designed better,

All in all, i would recommend this game, especially because they reduced the price and you can get it cheap in almost every sale. One of my favourite colony sims up there with rimworld.

The game is solid, but a lot of mechanics are not tested or polished. Like attackers dropping on your base when you get couple of bigger pads... they will drop all the time, and kill your guys and have fights with your guards. I have a suspicion that when guard dies with his weapon, weapon also gets lost. And you cannot take weapons of enemies.
I also built bot repair room, but bots would not go there for repairs and then break down permanently.
Later it is almost impossible to set priorities, and reports on what is bad are usually coming late when bad things are happening.

Solid 5/10, game has potential but it is often frustrating to play.

The game would probably be more fun if your workers weren't so god damn dumb. They are just itching to kill themselves. Workers just sit idle even when the priorities are set high with enough resources to work them. I'm constantly running out of spare parts because the engineers won't make them.

Not much depth in the gameplay. Once you understand how the systems work, there's no challenge left. The colony becomes fairly self managing after you get your initial production going. After about 50 pop/starport it just becomes a boring slog as you wait for traders to show up with the next 'tech' to buy. The tech progresssion seems pointless. You get bigger buildings, but there is no change in game play once you get those initial production lines stable.

Of the 8 hours I played I think 3-4 were just me sitting around with the game at 4x speed waiting for the next thing to do. It's a shame because it is an interesting concept and a few things showed promise.

I haven't played for very long, but I built a colony and achieved 5 milestones, and it feels like there's not much more to do than get the other milestones. The problem is that I have no motivation to achieve the other milestones. There's no reward; there's no point. There's no campaign to win, there's no mission in jeopardy if I don't get the milestones. It's just grinding.

This game no Surviving Mars, in which I have HUNDREDS of hours of gameplay.

I got this game on deep discount, and if you need to kill a few hours... buy it on sale. Otherwise, I would pass.

A Simplistic and Straightforward colony building sim.

The main menu's wallpaper is gorgeous. Game play mechanics are simple to understand and learn. The game is rather harsh on mistakes you make especially with poor resource management, and rushed buildings, can be hard to escape once you are too far gone. Remember to save often! Reloading saves is a very common practice.

Game is medium length, the price is worth the time if its on offer. Achievements are easily achievable.

I think the game would fare better if was developed with more features and customization!

I played through the tutorial and then a quick new game, but that's all I needed to determine that I didn't like this game. It feels like an early-access title and has nowhere near the polish that it needs to. Simple and basic stuff such as being unable to access the controls from anywhere but the main menu (the tutorial even recommends that you look at the controls at any time), not being able to rotate structures, the limited space in which you can build (minimum and maximum distance, elevation, etc), too restrictive on what buildings can be connected to what, not being able to freely place things within a structure (snap-to grid inside buildings, no rotation), etc. My first base failed because apparently I built in an area with too many elevations and buildings could no longer be placed anymore due to above restrictions. Second base failed because I accidentally removed the airlock to reposition it and the construction bots got locked inside and couldn't do anything. The developers of this game need to take a look at how other city builders do things and take notes. This formula has great potential but it's totally squandered in this game.

I would not recommend this for the following reasons:

-This game has been abandoned for Dawn of Man
-The AI issues on the forums have not been addressed
-Can't complete the game not due to difficulty but due to lack of control, poor UI, and AI bugs that make large colonies die off
-The community largely attributes these issues to user error when the game has some serious issues, leading to bickering instead of productive discussions in the forums
-Insane frustration spending hours on a colony only to watch it death spiral due to the stupid AI

I would recommend it if you consider these challenges rather than game breaking. I like this game I just wish the larger colony sizes were easier to stabilize rather than always having a colony completely die off past a certain point. The final tier items are difficult to attain without a whole lot of reward.

Not sure why this game got the number of good reviews it has. It has lots of potential but the AI, the way that new colonists arrive and the randomness of stuff like wind are just broken. Feels like some of the auto managed stuff is still in a BETA state.

And no planet gets that many meteors!

Nice colony building game with various challenges to surmount. I like the differences between the worlds, seems like things move a bit slower as you progress through these levels which brings a new difficulty to each world. Only thing I would improve it with i thing is terraforming.

Priorities seem misguided. When Meds are needed medics will not break off other duties to make the meds or will even stand around. Turns out the bioplastic needs get diverted to all other things before making meds. Prorities do not make sense and you have to cancel all building / manufacturing to get bioplastics to the lab. By then half the workers are injured. It is a frustrating path. While there are ways to figure out how to do it, it seems counter to how a real colony would be run. So, it is a game, but not a sim in my book. My 2c

It has some potential and it is very interesting, but as soon as your population gets big enough, it gets extremely unstable. I overproduce everything and as soon as I have a few construction projects on the other side of the base, everyone walks across the map and starts to starve. Once this starts, it is impossible to stop. You'll lose at LEAST a third of your colonists, if not half. Sometimes literally everyone will die. Once enough people die, the workers are extremely inefficient and will not focus on the most important tasks, and you won't have enough biologists to maintain all the crops. They will go from dead plant to dead plant and not make much food. If you turn off that biodome, they'll still work on the dead plants.

For me, this is one of the very few games that is just too unbalanced to be fun. It just doesn't make sense. I will not return to it.

A lot of the problems with this game revolve around the fact you cannot assign colonist to task. You end up with a medic running supplies rather than making medical supplies or healing people. This lack of management in the game makes it difficult to play and enjoy the game. Dawn of humanity handles this better with tasking groups of villagers. Another issue is the inability to build without having the module you want to build being connected to an existing building. This makes little to no sense one should be able to spawn build a new extension without having to be tethered to a base.
To need features and I do mean needed, colonist management assign sleeping quarters and job location, yes both that way you can build living around jobs. Assigning to jobs makes it easier and is more realistic, but you have priorities which do not work worth a damn since the AI is braindead. These features would greatly improve game play and enjoyability.

Disappointing compared to other space colonization games I have played. Does not seem to be any ability to prioritize construction or manually assign workers to certain production facilities. No ability to make underground structures which is rather stupid considering the environmental pressures placed on the colony. Also the number of connections various structures can have is very limited. Also limiting is the ability (or inability) to place certain structures which at times makes no sense. The only good thing I have to say is that I got this game on sale so did not lose as much money as I could have.

I like Planetbase for its variety and the interactions in each different type of planet. Also enjoyed the challenges very much; they take you out of your rut and force you to think in new ways to accomplish the tasks. Most of the action is in the first half hour when you establish your base; from there on its strategy and planning. Waiting to produce metal from ore and bioplastic from starch is a drag, but you accept that it's necessary and work on prioritizing your next tasks. Don't try to build multiple structures all at once - your resources will be spread all over and nothing will be completed. Focus on one thing at a time, and keep an open mind about taking down a dome and rearranging your layout. Adjust your mix of colonists to match your needs - you can determine what kind of worker will come in the next ship. I've played a lot of hours and built a lot of bases, and am still not tired of this game. Recommended for planners and thinkers, not fighters and warmongers!

Unfortunately, with the amount of time I've spent with this game so far, I cannot recommend it.

Now maybe I'm just garbage, but I have tons of experience with sim games, and builder/management type games such as the ANNO franchise, tycoon and park managers, stuff like that. And I gotta say this one just frustrates me. You are reliant on the actions of your colonists and not given clear or effective ways to direct or command them. You basically give them a to-do list, prioritize whats most important, and then wait. Often watching as they do almost anything but what you need them to do, often at their own detriment.

Because of this, it feels almost like a Sims game, where you cannot tell your sims what to do, you can only give them basic guidelines and then they go about it in the most confusing and ineffective way possible.

Right now at 7hours of playtime, it's hard to believe how little I've progressed. This game in a waitfest of epic proportions where even at the game's 4x maximum speed, you are left waiting for material, for traders with patents, and for robots to get built.

What you won't wait for is robots to fail and be unrecoverable / unrepairable despite having 4 robot repair stations which for some unfathomable reason, don't visit the repair stations before becoming unrecoverable.

What is a shame is the that all this is at the begining of the game. Insufferable waiting. Don't do this to new players who are trying to learn your game. The tutorial doesn't hint of any of these things with the seemingly unlimited amount of material on your colony ship.

Currently at 47 people and I can see the game speeding up a bit, but not sure if I have the patience to outlast it.

EDIT: So I played through nearly 12 hours and now I have more robots / minerals / cash than I can shake a stick at and what I've found is the robot failure is just the first of many manufactured events that come at you - after these you get to enjoy intruders who kill your colonists regardless of how many security stations / pistols you have, and then meteors that start hitting the base more frequently even with multiple telescopes.

So if you like trying to do things with wrenches constantly being thrown at you to muck up the works with no real solution to preventing these wrenches, then you can enjoy this. But much like Banished, once you figure this game out, it really doesn't have much to offer IMO.

You'll start a colony, expand it, and then all of a sudden your colonists will refuse to prioritize the tasks that keep them alive, like growing food, and then everybody dies.

Interesting cute little time using game. It is fairly simple once you get power, water, oxygen, and get started. Once started with the basics and first tier then I up game speed to max to continue. The only thing missing is a means to level ground for construction and a quick start with tiers in common sense place once they are accomplished as an option. I would also prefer more interactive dependencies among buildings with a means to know how much of something you need to maintain or is getting low easily noted. The game will eat up time if you have it to spend.

As a fan of Sci-fi, construction, and sandbox games, I'm disappointed. It's not a learning curve, it's an expectation curve. Imagine playing skyrim, but the only way to not fight 20x max level insta-kill mages is to play the game exactly how Todd Howard plays it.
1st Death: Didn't plan the base and have it sprawled out in a minute, I'm so naive everyone suffocated!
2nd Death: DIdn't build a wind generator for the first night. dead!
3rd Death: Built too fast that there wasn't enough metal to continue.
4th Death: Woops! didn't have enough starch to continue, of course only 40% plants produce ANY sugars lol.
5th Death: On the second night there wasn't wind, KO!
6th Death: Everyone starved, with 3/16 internal base components being full biodomes, prioritized, and over 12 biologists doing nothing but exercising.
Edit: while some are not fatal conditions, it's what happens afterwards and the colonists that die during that leads to demise.
New game. New game. New game. New game. New game. Please avoid.

I really wanted to like this game. But the AI is horrendous. You don't fail in this game by lack of strategy, supplies or natural disasters. You die from the AI refusing to do anything. There is no way to force someone to do a task. You can set a high priority on something, but that just means that they might eventually get around to doing it. O2 generator broke? well give them a few days and then they will consider fixing the vital piece of equipment set to high priority with the repair supplies sitting next to it. yep, any day now they will get it up an running again..... any day now..........

This is a typical colony management sim - but a good one. Build and manage an outpost on a remote, unhospitable planet. Lead a team of colonists and robots who are on a mission to colonize the planet. Connect your buildings with each other and connect necessary ressource producing structures (energy, air, water,...) to the grid as well. As always (and quite logical when building an outpost far away from home) your ressources are limited and you have to be careful not to run out of something necessary, like food for your settlers.

Later planets become increasingly unfriendly for human settlements. Environmental hazards may destroy your base and its occupants, or pirates can attack you. Get vital ressources from space traders. Your outposts can become rather big, and you have to balance a lot of things. When building your base you don't only place your structures, you also have to put stuff inside, like tables, beds and a large TV. Once you are settled and everything works, just maintaining the vital parts of your colony is enough and it might become a bit boring.

Conclusion:
Good space colony builder.

One word to sum up this game - frustration!

Start a colony on a remote moon. Nail the base layout, get all the resources going nicely then boom! something happens to shift the balance - meteor impact, equipment breakdown, intruders, then the delicate balance goes off and your whole colony dies.

Take your time, don't expend quickly and you can eventually expand and grow. Every type of colonist is important so don't neglect a specific type, especially guards when your population hits 20. Robots help but take a lot of work to get built (colonists keep building spare parts instead of bots) and only have a limited lifespan. Start on a flat area where you have a large area to expand into. Have a good base layout with multiple airlocks near to storage and spaceports. Plant variety of food types to prevent malnutrition. Experiment and have fun!

Probably my favorite casual city builder to play when I’m listening to an audio book or lecture. If you’re trying to play it seriously the AI can get annoying, and a colony does get boring after a while and you have to make a fresh one; but overall very relaxing. I enjoy both the space colonization theme and the room mechanics. Quite unique for a city builder actually.

Being a SF fan, I enjoyed playing this game quite a lot for maybe 30 hours. Then I started to have a feeling that I've discovered all the mechanics and workings that the game has to offer. The other planets and challenges require you to find new ways of doing things, which is great, and it is fun indeed, but the lack of deeper mechanics limits replayability to me - I just think I had enough of it already. If that changes, or possibly after some time passes, I may play it again, but not any time soon.

Good nice game for casual playing, but does not go deep enough to keep you attracted for a long time. Which, however, may be actually an advantage ;). Thanks, enjoyed!

Your colonists are so impossibly stupid that you have to wonder if their shuttle craft was an attempt at cleaning out the shallow end of the gene pool.

Seriously. If they don't live/work close enough to a cafeteria, they'll spontaneously die of starvation. They'll complain about being short on metal alloy, yet ignore the raw ore in the store room because they decided to wander the halls and then go drink water instead of doing their job.

So basic and irritatingly benign, machines lack any automation and require constant maintenance even inside a dome human workers will not change occupations even to save it's life, i.e a engineer will starve to death rather than unload food from a trade ship.
Humans and robots will walk right into a sandstorm and take damage, no self preservation.
It looks like it's fun but it's an illusion, even on sale it's over priced, as a gift I would wonder why they (the giver) have so much animosity for you.

You will repeatedly fail because the colonist's AI is terrible. They'll try and restock the resource you have the most of instead of dealing with the critical, life-threatening shortage. They'll walk into a room, work on the critical, life-saving task... for all of thirty seconds, before deciding that they should get a drink of water. They'll straight-up ignore prioritized work to go wander around and move some random object from point A to point B.

In short, you'll fail often, because of the pseudo-RNG that apparently governs your colonist's decisions, and often only after you've put enough time in the colony for it to be frustrating.

Get it on Sale! -- I like these management type games; put a sci-fi spin on it and I'm sold. All in all I had fun. However, like others have posted it feels incomplete. There is only SO much to do. At first it seems daunting, but once you get the swing of how to survive it's cake from there. You end up doing things like making buildings and the base as a whole aesthetically pleasing. I wish there were more building, colonist, and interaction types. Some more specificity would go a long way. There's a lot of potential here and unfortunately I don't think it'll ever get fleshed out.
