I grew up with Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z Anime and Manga.
This game is awesome. The fights and the small clips are really close to the story.

You can run and fly through a cute detailed Dragon Ball World and reach some known places, like Grandpa's Gohan's house, Gods/Dendes Temple, The KAME-house or battle areas where Son Goku fought against Vegeta etc.
You have to train to get better and learn new Power Attack like the Super-Masenko for Son-Gohan or Transformations like Kaioken etc. to be prepared for big fights and strong enemies like Freezer...

What I am a bit missing is the combo kicks or punch moves which one could do in other PC, Nintendo games.

A really nice addition is the Dragon Ball Card game and that you can get support from additional KI fighter like Yamchu, Krillin or Piccolo.

I deeply recommend this game for all Dragon Ball fans but also people who don't know Dragon Ball since this game starts really from the beginning of Dragon Ball Z.

Have fun!!

Wirklich gutes DBZ Spiel.

Sonstige Elemente (Kochen & Minigames):

Was soll ich sagen. Alles was ich wollte....

Man

the game is visually incredible, but mechanically uninspired from almost every angle. Combat is single-note and already felt monotonous by the time I reached Raditz, the open world serves no purpose except to pad out the length of the game by forcing you to traverse between story events, and am I the only one who's getting real damn tired of just playing through Dragonball Z's story in every game? The cutscenes look incredible, these famous scenes have never been rendered so faithfully in 3D before, and it is exciting, but if I wanted to watch the anime, I'd just watch the goddamn anime.

Ultimately I wouldn't mind replaying the story beats of the anime if the gameplay was satisfying, but it REALLY isn't. It feels a lot like Dragonball Legends. Mash a button until your enemy falls over or you have enough meter to use a super. Repeat until cutscene tells you who was really supposed to win the fight. Dash through an empty open world and collect floating colorful orbs(?!?!?!?!), occasionally get attacked by some nameless trash mobs who only exist to waste your time and pad out the game. repeat.

buy it on sale or preferably not at all.

This game is great for Dragon Ball fans or fans looking to get into the franchise.

While it is not revolutionary or game changing from anything we have seen before, it does exactly what you want it to do. Flashy fights, the retelling of Goku's story from DBZ anime, and so on.

I only have a few gripes such as the open world feels a bit empty after you figure out all the stuff you can do, you actually don't need to grind to level up as just playing the story does enough to keep you progressing, and the side stories get dull after a while.

This game might not be for everyone but if you're a Dragon Ball fan or aspiring fan, you'll get your time's worth off of the fights alone!

Fan service done right. In this game you get to experience the whole Dragon Ball Z story. You get to play with different characters where each one of them has a unique set of attacks. To complete all the achievements, you are not required to purchase the DLCs. I recommend this game to those that are fans of the franchise or to people that would like to experience the Dragon Ball Z story without reading the manga or watching the anime. It would be nice if Bandai would release a similar game for the original Dragon Ball (kid Goku) as well.

The game is beautiful but the combat is shallow and repetitive. Also, lots of pointless flying around and random encounters which drag out the game and therefore hurting the pacing of the game. Nostalgia isn't enough to carry the game. you're better off just re-watching the series. it would be more entertaining.

this game is okay, but it was sorta underwhelming. its probably the best way to relive dbz by far but the open world they promised us kinda sucked balls. the fighting in this game also got pretty boring after a while. the visuals are most def the best part about this game. those pre rendered anims are just so GOOOOOOD. but then u get the majority of the cutscenes where its literally just characters talking to each other with the talking animations being looped and shit like that which look garbage. ill recommend this to any dbz fan out there, but someone looking to just play this to get into the series, dont get this. just go watch dbz itself and then maybe get this lol.

3/5 woozye point

Its sloppily thrown together. the character progression hits a wall at the end of the game. which is unfortunate. i finished the game around level 74 and the next mission was at level 200+. the side missions are nothing more than irrelevant fetch quests. never thought a dbz could be bad but this one definitely is.

I grew up watching DBZ every morning before school. After watching everything until the end of DBZ there was a big gap in terms of DBZ content so I kind of grew up into an adult and forgot about it... However coming back to DBZ after all these years and playing Kakarot lit an old ember within my heart and I'm proud to say it made me purchase the anime on blu-ray just to re-watch it all again. I haven't completed the title but from what I have experienced so far I am really enjoying the refresher and I really enjoy how everything ties in together and makes sense. Anyways, back to playing!

Dragon Ball Z Kakarot is an amazing game, I got more action, adventure, and fun than I thought I would get. Actions is just Amazing. it has everything, all the transformations, potora earings, fusion, super saiyan 1, 2, 3, super saiyan god, super saiyen blue, I mean ALL transformations. has a lot of stuff from the show and has all the characters - Frieza, Piccalo, King Kia, Goku and Vegeta of course, Yamcha, Boo, Mr. Saitan, you name it. Sounds good? Check
Musics good? Check
Can you smash your head through a mountain? Check
Dialogue good? Check
Got good DLCs? Check (The one bad DLC is the tao pia pia pillar DLC, there are some mixed reviews though. Everthing else is good.)
Has many tiny tiny details? Check

50 hours in, still not even close to finished with the game.

Ever since I was a kid I dreamed of an open world DBZ themed fighting/rpg, and this is 99% of what I imagined. Fantastic game overall.

I recommend buying the Deluxe edition while it's on sale. I installed the Bruce Faulconer Cutscene and BGM music mods and you may want to as well if you grew up with DBZ in the late 90s and early 2000s. It makes the game just 10x more epic!

Short review, if you grew up watching the DBZ series on Cartoon Network or anywhere else, this game does a great job of telling the story of Adult Goku and Son Gohan through the fighting of Saiyans Vegeta and Kappa, all the way to Frieza and beyond. Some minor repetitive quirks, but overall the experience of playing the game is fun. Also the game is BEST played with a controller, it can be a pain with KB+M, but it's still manageable. The overall combat is great! I am not even close to being done with finishing the game yet.

Game is a solid 8 out of 10 for me.

Story:
If you want to play a game that goes through the main story of Dragon Ball Z then this is the game. It does a good job taking you through each of the major arcs and makes you feel stronger with each mission completion. Although there is a weird emphasis placed on Gohan even though the game is called Dragon Ball Kakarot. I went in expecting to play as mainly Goku but was surprised to see that I was playing as Gohan for the majority of it. That isn't a bad thing but it is a little misleading for the people that dive into the game without knowing that. The main story of the game takes you from the Saiyan Saga all the way to the end of the Majin Buu story. Personally though I think the game really picks up around the Android/Cell saga because that's when you are able to take more events and threats. (Also because my favorite arc in Dragon Ball Z was that arc).

Graphics:
The graphics are amazing and some of the best I've seen in a Dragon Ball game. It was a trip down memory lane for me when I was seeing all of the cut scenes and they are gorgeous. They were so well animated that I had to take screenshots as I progressed through the story just to look back on. Every major event and fight was done beautifully and breathed new life into the old anime that I watched as a child.

Gameplay:
This game is an RPG so everything is revolved around a leveling system. The leveling mechanic is good because it makes you want to do the side quests as they give you a healthy amount of XP. A lot of the side stories in this game fill in missing gaps within the story that you didn't get with the anime and shows how the characters are affected by what is going on at the moment. Overall the core gameplay isn't complex and there isn't really a combo system; there are basic attacks, vanish step, ki blasts, ki blast supers and transformations. A lot of the game can be played with minimal effort because of how simple the combat system is. I think this is because the developers wanted the players to focus more on the story rather than the gameplay. The one thing that bothers me about this game isn't so much enough to give it a bad score but can be slightly annoying after noticing it. Whenever you charge ki while Super Saiyan, it is blue instead of the yellow like it is in the anime. Like I said it isn't a major thing to get upset about but it does sometimes make my eye twitch because I am so used to it being yellow. The other gripe I had with the game were the collecting missions. There were times where you had to gather a certain type of meat or fish and the RNG Gods were just not with me. It was very frustrating to sit there sweeping the same area for the same loot that I should've gotten the first couple of times. Not a real concern because I feel like that was a personal problem but it was still a gripe either way.

Conclusion:
Dragon Ball Z Kakarot is an RPG that takes you through the anime basically. It is not inventing anything new but instead delivers an enjoyable experience that is very relaxed and memorable. There isn't really anything wrong with the game in my opinion and can serve as an introduction to the world of Dragon Ball for newcomers. Overall I think that this game is meant to scratch that nostalgic itch that many fans have and take them down on a trip down memory lane.

Verdict:
7/10 :)

Never watched DBZ and got this game on a whim. Absolutely recommend, with the best parts being:

- Fights are usually at least a mild challenge, and even when they weren't it was after 70hrs of grinding and you still feel like a badass
- Huge world with a ton to explore and collect
- Flying mechanics were suprisingly good
- Pre/During/post-fight animations made small pp become small hard pp
- Made me feel as if I had truly returned to monke

Overall 7/8 it's gr8 m8

Great Game in all honesty, What killed it for me is the Card Warriors. I spent $50 in game for the coins to purchase cool items not knowing there is a bug that makes it impossible for you to play the card warriors game anymore, it would of been nice if they knew this is a ongoing bug to either disable the purchases or have a warning screen when entering the store. So i lost out of $50 and can not play it at all now. Emailed them and waiting for a response, Until this is sorted or i receive a refund i will not be changing my rating. I will also be posting updates regularly with the pictures of my complaint and purchase AS WELL as what the support replies with. Thanks

Namek Saga :
Goku is recovering from his fight with Vegeta, and later, from Ginyu
- play primarily as Gohan and Vegeta
Android Saga :
Goku is still in space at the start, Goku gets the heart disease, Goku is recovering from said disease, and oh yeah, Goku dies
- Primarily play as Gohan with occasional Piccolo, Future Trunks and Vegeta gameplay.
Buu Saga -
Goku is literally dead and in Otherworld for most of this saga except for the very end and some sporadic parts during his 24 hour visit
- Play as...you guessed it, Gohan, feat. Piccolo, Vegeta, Gotenks, Vegito, and Goten.
Intermissions - Well technically you can play as anyone that's available depending on the story but Goku is out of the picture for most of these.
Newest DLC -
literally takes place in a timeline where Goku dies from the heart disease
10/10 would
be a deadbeat father to Gohan and force one of my former enemies to raise him again
While it doesn't have a complicated fighting, exploration, or quest system, there is just enough for it to be engaging and enjoyable. Now a days, I find modern open world RPG exploration games to have too much packed into it's world and over all content that I give up after a few hours of playing because of how overwhelming it can be.

I love Dragon Ball Z, but I have noticed as time goes by Bandai Namco gets lazier and lazier with their AAA titles. I have played all there is to play of this game. I've done my time and with that said this game is disappointing. There is just so much wrong with it. The main story is your classic DBZ game, every saga up to Majin Buu, unless you have the DLC. That aspect is fine, it's what we've grown to love about the franchise. However everything else about this game is a hot dumpster fire. The battle mechanics grow old quickly, getting new abilities and skills for your characters is an absolute hassle and is just another reason that DBZ and RPG mechanics don't go well together. On top of that, this game doesn't have anything to offer once you beat it, and it slowly grows to be more boring with time, and for the love of god don't get me started on the DLC. I have fallen asleep with more effort than it took for Bandai to make those DLC, which only serve the purpose of giving you two new transformations that are so dull that you might as well not even have them. By the time they're unlocked every single story boss battle is already a one-shot kill in your base form because Bandai created a lazy leveling system. so none of the story bosses get stronger, only random encounters with Frieza soldiers. Oh and both the DLCs are just you training with someone for the rest of the game with like maybe 10 minutes of actual interesting gameplay. And Namco, if you ever see this, stop making garbage updates for the stupid card game no one plays. I didn't buy a DBZ game to play Yu-Gi-Oh.

Quick review: 3.5/5

Good, but not great.

======

If you're a fan of DBZ this game will be fairly satisfying. You get to play as Goku and select members of the main cast, but you won't be able to change your assigned main character for the majority of the game. It isn't particularly challenging save for the start of the game and the end of the game. Attacks are flashy and combat is fun, but the downside is it isn't very deep. My major gripe is the lack of replay value; there is no NG+, post-game content outside of DLC is very limited, and if you replay story missions via the post-game Time Machine you're locked into your current level so old fights will be a breeze rather than being intense.

If you're looking for something with lots of replay value, go for Xenoverse or Xenoverse 2. However if you want to truly play through the saga of DBZ, this is a better bet. Just be aware there's only enough here for one to three full playthroughs at most.

Rating: ★★★★☆

(4½ stars if half-stars were possible - even with its flaws, this is one of the best DBZ games around)

============

Review:

I'm not a hardcore fan of DBZ, but I have watched the anime - and this game is fairly faithful to the anime (it does skip some stuff and fast forward many things, but it works).

When I bought this game, I was expecting a fighting game with a little other stuff on the side - and I was really surprised.

It's not a fighting game - it's more like an open world RPG in the world of DBZ. Characters have levels and skill trees, and there's quests, items, crafting and stuff.

It sort of gives me Yakuza vibes, like the main story is great and all but it has all kinds of extra stuff for you to do as well. Though it also suffers from the same problem as Yakuza 0 - the side quests aren't voice acted.

It has all the typical things you'd expect from a DBZ game - you get to fly around the world at supersonic speeds, there's transformations, speedy fighting and energy attacks.

The game has captured the feeling of speed really well - if you just jog around it's slow, but if you RUN across the land it feels really fast.. and if you fly, it's so fast that you'll have trouble controlling the movement until you get used to it.

Graphics look nice and they're faithful to the anime. The world looks colorful and vibrant, and it's pleasant to look at.

Sounds are also faithful to the anime, but imo the music is not good, other than the legendary intro song.

You can choose between japanese and english voice actors, so why can't you choose between japanese and english music? Maybe some legal issues.. but I grew up with the Bruce Faulconer versions so it pisses me off a bit. Vegeta turning into a super saiyan without the piano of doom just feels wrong to me.

============

Controls take a moment to learn, but after that they feel quite natural. It's like the first times you're flying around, it's clunky.. but you learn and it becomes smooth and then you just fly from one location to the next in one perfect motion.

Combat is quite simple and I really like it that way. It's in a 3rd-person view, and you're locked into an enemy always. There's no difficult inputs to do, and it's really simple to pull off combos. The simplicity makes 1-on-1 fights pretty much the same always, same combos work against different enemies - though different characters have different moves, so it's not EXACTLY the same always and you need to adjust your style. But there can be multiple enemies at once in a fight, which breaks the pattern.

Regular enemies of the game are just boring. And unnecessary, they could be removed and just allow players to train with other characters to get xp. In my opinion they are annoying, useless speed bumps.

The villanous versions are fine, since you don't have to hunt down too many of them, and they show up on the map.

============

Overall, I think DBZ: Kakarot is an excellent game. I can recommend it even to people who haven't watched the anime - though of course it is more appealing for people who have done so.

If you could choose between the current music and the Bruce Faulconer versions, and if they removed the boring regular enemies, it would easily be a five-star game in my eyes.

But even like this, it's an excellent game and I recommend you to buy it, if you like DBZ or just any open world RPGs.

============

Summary:

The Good ????
+ Colorful and vibrant world
+ Good old DBZ story
+ Feeling of speed is very well done
+ Simple but fun combat
+ Massive amounts of stuff to do

The Bad ????
- No Bruce Faulconer music!
- Boring regular enemies
- Side-quests are not voice acted

Over sold and under delivered is the best way to sum up this game. Original story is fun and it is fun to relive and play through most of the game, but there are large chunks of the story cut out and lackluster new side stories. DLC is abysmal with no sign of them ever getting it right. If you want to play through the story, it can be a good time, just don't waste your money on any DLC. Also would recommend buying the game on sale, definitely not worth $60.

Any lover of the Dragonball Z series is going to absolutely fall in love with this game like I have. You're practically immersed in the world as though you're in the anime show yourself. The game is cram packed with things to do in the main story as well as side quests which are a lot of fun. The price is a little steep, yes... but I definitely think it's worth it considering how much game time you get out of it. I've been taking my time very carefully and have already put about 50+ hours in and I'm only on the Android saga. I really hope there will be more DLCs for this story, maybe including some of Super.

When I was 9 years old, I had a dream.
In that dream, I was able to fly, fight Cell and hang out with the Z Fighters. However, in this dream, it was a game I was playing; it was a game I wanted -- a game I wished existed but couldn't due to the limited technology at the time.

It's now the year 2020 (according to the people of that time, it's the future). I have Dragon Ball Z Kakarot. My dream has been fulfilled.

This game is EVERYTHING your younger self would have wanted in a Dragon Ball Z game. Compared to Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, this game is similar in terms of combat but different in the overall structure of gameplay.

XV2 plays like a Dragon Ball Z MMO. This plays more like a singleplayer GTA clone (think of the open world games from the early 2010's such as Saints Row).

How does this measure up to the top RPG's such as Skyrim and The WItcher 3? Honestly, it's not that great in comparison. The world feels fairly static but the residents still go about their days so it's not too bad in terms of immersion.

I give this Dragon Ball game a 9/10: I wish there were leaderboards so you could compare yourself to your friends.

it's been a long time since I've watched DBZ in it's entirety, around 12 years or so. Being able to relive each saga in a fresh way made completing this game an absolute blast. This is the kind of DBZ game I've always wanted since I was a kid. If you have regularly watched the show since it originally aired, you may not get as much enjoyment out of this as I did. There's a few issues I had with the game, but the positives far outweigh the negative.

The combat was both fun and repetitive. On one hand, there's a lot of really cool visuals going on during battles. But on the other, it's mostly just button mashing. Melee is only one button, and you can have four different abilities equipped at one time. While it's not very complex, I did find it very fun. The movement and momentum behind punches felt satisfying, and knowing when to stop attacking to dodge and counter with one of your abilities didn't ever really get old. What did get old however were the dozens and dozens of random encounters littered all over every map. The proximity in which enemies spawn is way too small.

The visuals are really nice to watch during combat and cutscenes, although they are capped at 30 fps unfortunately. The entire screen gets filled with destruction. While you're exploring however, I found the environments to be rather boring. There's a lot of pointless filler everywhere: catching animals and fish, finding ingredients and parts for very questionably included vehicles, and orbs EVERYWHERE. It took some effort to ignore the immersion breaking that is the hundreds of orbs on every map.

Sound is great, everything is original save for a few of the characters voices. Combat sounds very impactful, your abilities sound powerful, and the music is perfect. My one complaint with the voices were how often the character you're playing as repeats the same exact line. The character will say the same sentence describing how they should destroy this random enemy over and over every single time you pass by an enemy. You eventually tune it out, but it's annoying.

I really recommend this game to anyone wanting to experience the show in a different way, there's a ton of content here. There's around 80 side quests, and a lot of side activities that I ignored.

The gameplay for this is really awesome. Story was about 80% accurate, There are parts that were told completely different than what actually happened, but that is totally forgivable. I have to add though (as others did too) a controller is VERY MUCH recommended when playing this, i must say i found the controller mappings easy to get used to.

Also Achievement hunters, this game is totally doable to get all of them, some take some work to get to, but its not super hard to get them all, which i did

This is the essential canon DBZ experience you dreamed about when you were watching DBZ on Toonami in 1999.
It is canon to the manga, meaning it is like playing Dragon Ball Z Kai as an AARPG.
Here's how you should play the game:
- Watch for and do all blue ! quests as soon as they appear, or you will miss them. (But you can use the time machine later)
- Don't waste your time on collecting/exploring/grinding.
- Don't bother grinding at all. Just do the story.
- Visit Beerus at the beginning of the game.
- Visit Beerus to level up.
- The main story ends around 75. The main training ends at 100.
- Visit Beerus to grind from 100 to 250.
- The vehicles are a completely optional side game and have no impact on anything whatsoever.
- Use Vegeta's big bang attack.

DRAGON BALL Z: KAKAROT

The game is pretty interesting and entertaining, very accurate with great graphics and a lot of other cool features. in a scale of one to ten i'd rate it eight.
then, what is the problem of the game and what so good about it?

The Good:

-The story:the story is very accurate and well prepared, you can find all the amazing moments from the anime including: Vegeta's galick gun clash with Goku's kamehameha (Saiyan saga),Goku's rage and transformation to a super saiyan(Namek saga),Gohan's anger and super saiyan 2 transformation(Cell games/android saga) and so on.they put a lot of effort and this game really reminds me the anime.

-The graphics:to be honest just from the photos this game looks amazing.

-The gameplay:well, not all of it and i'll explain when i will get to the bad side, but there are some great moments in the gameplay like the first time you trying super saiyan and the fighting mechanism.I also liked the way of unlocking thing, the party emblems boost idea and the rest of the side quests and little things this game has to offer.

The Bad:

-The gameplay:The gameplay is repeating itself, instead of having hundreds of moves and combos that can add only fun and require a little bit of skill, this game is very simple with only six attacks and if you are getting support in fighting maybe little bit more.It is basically the ki blast(That you barley going to use),strike(which you probably going to press and spam most of the time) and other 4 moves (that depends on the character you are playing with).

In conclusion, this game is very well made, with nice gameplay, good graphics and great memories.I enjoyed 99% of the time playing this game and not regretting buying it.If you never watched dragon ball so it might be a big spoiler for you and if you did don't waste your time and do yourself a favor by playing this game.

Any Dragon Ball Z fan will surely love this game!

Out of every Dragon Ball game before it, this game is truly the one that captures the story and overall essence of the anime.

+ Lots of content Frieza, Cell, Buu, you get the full story (roughly 30 hour main story, 40+ with side content)
+ Amazing Graphic Style that really looks and feels like the Anime
+ English Voiced-Over cutscenes along with any main-story missions
+ You get to play as multiple different characters which adds a lot of variety
+ The combat system is great. Out of previous games, this one seems to actually present a bit of a challenge, encouraging blocking, dodging, and timing. Even the first boss can prove to be somewhat difficult.
+ Very large open world to explore with lots of items and orbs to collect

- Sidequests are not voiced-over forcing you to read lousy dialogue (they are also mostly fetch quests)
- Those who have not watched or do not like the Anime will likely not understand or enjoy the game.

Overall, this game reminded me a lot of the old Budokai games from the PS2 which were my absolute favorite.

So this game is made on purpose to empty the wallets of nostalgic 90's kids.

-> I am a 90's kid
-> You know I'm gonna call this a masterpiece. Full stop.

If you've ever played any of the Naruto Storm games by Cyberconnect2 you are gonna find the combat in this game very familiar, the simple B button smash combos and fast dashes still remain and, when powered up, super attacks trigger cutscenes too. So overall a familiar feel to the combat, but in general Kakarot is its own beast.

Definately the best thing about it is the amazing attention to detail from both manga and anime, I'll name a few of them:

-Power levels rise along with the story progression and are accurate in every event of the anime.
-Transforming strenghtens Saiyans ridiculously and makes other characters useless, just like in the anime.
-Meals make all the difference in battle, you don't want to leave without eating, just like in the anime.
-You go faster by flying. But you still use Nimbus. Because you know it's fun. Just like in the anime.
-You can race cars and ask Bulma for parts in her workshop, just like in the anime.
-Yes, you can properly collect Dragon Balls and spam Shenron wishes, just like in the anime.
-Korin gives you free Senzu beans overtime. Yes they are OP as they should, just like the anime.
-The end game Super Spirit Bomb is so huge it's rendered out of the frame, just like in the anime.
-Goku's hair is finally properly made in 3D, spikes look the same in all angles, just like in the anime.
-The cutscenes are... you know it. Just like the anime.

I could go on and on about every tiny detail there is, only noticed if you are a fan and care to look deeper, but it would be a long post, hopefully these few things I mentioned are enough to make you buy the game and get immersed in what I think it's the best DBZ universe experience ever made. Go feed your inner kid some happiness, and it starts with that opening.

Of all the adventure/rpg style DBZ games to come out since the NES, this is the absolute best i've ever played. The whole show is covered, the art is fantastic, and the game play is very enjoyable. My only complaint would be that the characters talk too much in intermissions.

Summary:
When you finish the game, ask yourself this question. How much did you really play as Goku?

One of the most beloved franchises in anime, bogged down by repetitive and rushed gameplay. The Dragon Ball franchise is one of my most favorite series, so the games are obviously very critical to me in their execution. Bandai brings elements from their previous entries and tries something new with an open world feature. Fly across the DB world and explore the regions within. The idea is an amazing image of the world, but it has many flaws that hurt the spirit of many fans. To start, what makes this game feel rushed is the fact that a good portion of the story is either told in a mediocre cut scene or just completely skipped entirely. A mediocre cutscene would be such as Goku coming back from yardrat and him explaining where he has been, only for the game to cut to a black screen and come back with the story told “behind” the scenes. This is heavy throughout the game. Yes, we all know the story and it has been told thousands of times, but that doesn’t stop the fans from buying the next title. And Bandai knows that. Many game companies push out half assed games these days and still gamers buy them, myself included. In my opinion, the last great DBZ game to bless us gamers was Budokai Tenkaichi 3. The roster and gameplay coupled with the environment were top notch.

Everyone loves free things. This is what the dragon balls are for right? Well yes, you get free things in the game. And you really don’t have to work hard at all to find them. YEP! The map shows you exactly where they are. The dragon balls are on a real world timer based off the last time you summoned Shenron. Once they reappear, you get a notification and the map shows which region and the radar shows you the exact location via an icon on the mini map. You could easily grind your way through the game via the dragon balls. But what fun is that really? The rewards all actually not all that worth it. The dragon balls should have been a little harder to find and actually require you to use the radar to find them.

This game brings you few playable characters, NPC support characters, and everything else is minor. The environment is not destructible, and the rank up system is brought to you by a means of HEAVY grinding for different color orbs scattered throughout the map that barely give enough points to gain a new skill. The repetitive nature of going back and forth between maps to gather orbs, and fight off enemies in the sky, just make it really boring and really frustrating. There is so much lost potential as with this type of game, you could have told Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT, Dragon Ball Super, and all the movies to make 1 epic title, even if they were released as DLC.

A good thing going for the game would definitely have to be the difficulty scaling. Enemies 10 levels higher then you can and will waste your time. You will hardly do damage and will probably give up before you actually kill them. This forces you to gain more experience and skills before fighting them. But then also falls back on the repetitive grind. Surprisingly though, the game is quite stable for its size, and I did not encounter any bugs or glitches.

This game can truly become amazing if only it were polished more and more features added. As we all know, there will most likely be another DBZ game released in the future, but hopefully we get one that tells it all. That can blow the fans minds in its flesh out story and battles. Epic moves and fights, warping the ground and buildings. Tearing of the clothes and battle scars. Really does make me miss Tenkaichi 3.

All in all, this is a decent game to the franchise despite its flaws. I’m just a fan picking apart his favorite team. Pick it up for the story and nostalgia. To any true DBZ die hard fan, get this game on discount, it will disappoint you a little unfortunately.

Some things I’d like to see in the future on titles or this game:
Redo the story and actually make it fleshed out and/or tell the story from the very beginning
Fix Voice sync
Bring the PLAYABLE roster of the likes of FighterZ or Tenkaichi 3
(For the PvP oriented) Bring multiplayer
Add a seperate mode to actually fight against AI like in the older games
Bring world tournament to acquire optional things (tie in cosmetics instead of a cash shop)
Go back to the first DBZ game and start from there in pulling elements from all the previous entries

This game captivates perfectly the show from it's story to it's map when you roam around earth with Goku & friends looking for Dragon Balls and completing side quests, with an added time travel mechanic and RPG elements you can't go wrong. It has a lot of content besides the main story, which is told perfectly through really flashy cinematics just like the show and more to come thru DLC, which is adding more to the story and refining a really intuitive combat, although they can flesh out a bit of the combos (which the DLC tries to) and tougher enemies are just a bigger health bar, but besides that if you like Dragon Ball Z it's a must buy.

It's fun if you treat it like just a fancier version of the Legacy of Goku series from the gameboy advance.

I regret buying this game but I still had quite a lot of fun with it. I got around halfway through the game and lost interest as the boss battles felt too easy and the combat felt spammy and repetitive. The hardest battles I faced were training ones by far and I do not have a problem with the bosses level of difficulty but I wish the difficulty was more consistent. Apart from the combat that eventually got boring, the side quests and side activities also got pretty boring. Fishing, cooking and hunting were there but they kinda felt like they provided no value to my progress and were there for nothing. The robots following me got annoying and there is no reason to grind in this game as it just puts you to the right level anyway. The only thing you should do is training for new moves and completing the skill tree. You don't really need to collect orbs as you can get lots pretty easily for boss battles. Before I bought this game the side quest looked like a lot of fun but they ended up just being simple battles against simple enemies or collecting stuff. The rewards the side quests provide are also pretty useless. There are more negatives I could talk about but I will talk about the positives. First of all the soundtracks for this game make me feel really good and the animation is very good. The main story aspect of it is very fun and addicting usually and the fact that you can play as multiple characters is a great feature aswell. I come from the perspective of knowing a bit of the DBZ story and for me it was a good way to learn the story up to where the game goes. I will probably soon come back and finish the main story of this game over the quarantine and I do recommend this game if you are interested in DBZ and only planning to focus on the main story. It may sound like I said a lot of negatives but that is just because I regret pre ordering this game for 50 quid. Now it is on sale for 34 quid so you can buy it for a bit less but honestly I think that there are cheaper games that you can have a better time with.

While I didn't hate it, it wasn't great. It has some of the worst cluttered environments with orbs breaking immersion and constant onslaught of random encounters that offer little challenge and even smaller pay off for fighting them. It becomes more of an annoyance to avoid getting dragged into them while trying to get from point A to B or gathering materials for whatever recipe or something you are working on. The main story is fairly spot on as a one to one comparison with the anime only a few small omissions probably for brevity's sake. The fighting system though...what a huge disappointment...this is probably the most basic fighting in a dbz game ever and that's saying something as its never been that complicated to begin with in past games. Not worth the full price but an ok game for big fans of the IP.

very fun game, i feel that using contoller would make the controls easier but thats my opinion. if u ever see a sub-mission, the blue mission side quests, you might wanna do them before going on with the story since they are only available for a specific part of the story and they give u xp which does help with the story.
