Bleib jetzt wahrscheinlich dran ^^

Fuck this game.
its basicly GRIND THE GAME.
every aspect of this game is only Grind to get money for better ships to get better at grinding.
you need to watch dozends of Tutorials and use half a dozend tools outside of the game to Proper progress. otherwise you only tread water. yet Hours/days of grind can be taken away in mere seconds.
only redeming aspect of the game is the exploring aspect, which is also pure grind, but at least you get to look at Pretty thinks and dont relay on 3 different Third party tools to Progress, you only need one for this.
but since the last update its not only looks worse than before... it also runs like shit.
before Odessey? 60 Frames on Ultra. with odessey? 15 Frames on low.
for what?
Fuck this shit.

Ohne Youtube keine Chance ^^

.. Miner Rohstoffe in Asteroidengürtel abbauen.

If you know the X series of games and had the struggle to get in to them you will love this game.
It's is basically the same except it does not have a huge learning curve involved into it.
The graphics are excellent and the amount of stars/planets/hubs you can travel to are huge.
The gameplay is also very nice to use even with mouse+keyboard.
If you like space exploration games this one is for you.
The only downside I see is the lack of more ships.

Gute Arbeit Frontier. So kann man auch Leute abzocken!

//EDIT

Es kommt immer drauf an, was jeder einzelne daraus macht.

Einzigartiges und ungewöhnliches Open World Space-Simulator.

+ Du kannst tun was Du am liebsten machst
+ Nicht zu viele Menüs
+ Multiplayer, Single Player oder Private Sitzungen, einfach alles Da
+ Super Community die einem Hilft
+ Nur 1 DLC namens Horizon (Landung auf Planeten usw...)
+ Im Co-op oder ganzen Geschwader geniales erlebniss
+ Im VR Modus der absolute Knaller, fast kein Motion Sickness
+ Sehr Gut Spielbar mit Maus&Tastatur, GamePad oder Natürlich Joystick's (Tanzmatte würd ich nicht nehmen :)
+ 400 Milliarden Sternensysteme (kein Witz)

Viel Spass

Egal was ihr macht.

Played the game a TON on Xbox. Absolutely enjoyed it. Got it on PC to play with friends. Waiting and waiting for Odyssey on console because that's where all my progress is only for FDev to kill development for the game entirely on console. Profile transfers from console to PC ONLY transfer credits, which doesn't include time spent grinding materials, ranks, modules, powerplay, etc, which is worth far more than the measly credits that they offer. Until they offer FULL profile transfer, negative review.

Elite: Dangerous is a good game to play whilst listening to a podcast or watching YouTube on another screen.

However given the woeful state of FDEV and their attitude towards the game, you cannot expect any features to be expanded or bugs to be fixed. Therefore I can only recommend buying this game when its on a 75% discount.

Do not, repeat DO NOT buy the Odyssey DLC. It is poorly optimised and the content it does have is underdeveloped or flat out vestigial.

Well, I tried, I gave it 100 hours of playtime and instead of it growing on me, it was the opposite, I saw how shallow a game this is. I tried a little of everything:

Combat is a case of swirling around until your weapons can get a bead on the target, then pressing mouse 1 or 2, then doing it some more.. and some more.. and some more. If you're really unlucky, the target will speed away and you'll have to go hunting so you can do it all over again.

Trading is finding something cheap and flying to somewhere where it sells for a lot. Or you can do the missions which is the same thing with a guaranteed payment at the end. Or you can mix the two if you have enough cargo space. So you load up the ship, fly somewhere, unload the ship, load up the ship, fly somewhere, unload the ship, watching money increase.

Exploring I was hoping would be an improvement, fly out into the great unknown and find mysterious locations and attractive vistas. But no, it's just fly somewhere, get a slightly different sky map to look at, and uncover another mass of planets that look exactly like the last load of planets you've flown past. I went to clouds and nebula, but the sky map really didn't change much, perhaps a slightly different colour, nothing which will make you say 'wow'.

Hundreds of jumps from one sector to another, all with the same animation as you 'warp speed' across the galaxy. Arrive and fly close to the sun you arrive at to refuel, then line up the next jump point and do the same again. Hours of watching the same animation and doing the same repetitive task.

And that's the biggest issue with Elite Dangerous, it's all repetitive tasks with absolutely no depth, masquerading as a game. I'm really not sure who this would appeal to, perhaps those who like looking at spreadsheets or trainspotting. It takes a specific type of mind to enjoy this sort of thing. I mean, I've done repetitive tasks, I played EverQuest at release for years, but at least there was some point to that. This doesn't really seem to have a point, it's a case of get more money, buy bigger ship, so you can get more money, to buy a bigger ship, until you have the biggest ship and then get more money to... I don't know? There aren't even that many ships to save up for.

If you don't like playing games where you don't really do anything except watch the game play itself, then I'd avoid this.

The game is absolutely gorgeous and the combat is quite fun if you have a knack for it. Personally I think it's worth playing just to explore the universe and visit the more unique locations. Buy it if its on sale.

This game can be any thing you make it, The choices are all yours.
From transporting goods, to bounty hunting, and all out wars on an alien race.
The grind is real with this game though, and learning all the keys to fly can be challenging.
In the end its a good game.

Elite Dangerous might be said not to be an MMO is the truest sense of the term. It has three main play formats: Open Play which allows you instance with other players for the big open world collaborative and competitive play experience, Private Group which allows you to instance with select players for a more collaborative play style with friends and members of your squadron, and then there's Solo Play which allows for private instancing. This makes the game feel more like a flight simulator with multiplayer capabilities.

Unfortunately, Elite Dangerous *is* an MMO in all the worst ways possible. The grind is incredibly painful and that doesn't even cover the steep learning curve to the game. So much of the play experience is running out of this resource or that and having to spend inordinate amounts of time farming bullshit locations with fickle mechanics that only work sometimes to allow you to make short(er) work of the farming. Elite Dangerous does not lock anything behind levels, but instead you're confined by how much in-game money you have and how easily you can bring in more. Furthermore, ships can be modified with the help of special NPCs called engineers who each have specialty (engines, weapons, shields, power, etc) and these engineers require--you guessed it--more resources called materials. I don't know if anyone genuinely enjoys hunting down these resources, but I sure as hell didn't.

This game is designed to make you spend incredibly long periods of travel and farming with minimal gains to show for it. I tried so hard to enjoy it and I find myself inclined to keep trying, but I know better. This game can't get better because it is fundamentally flawed. It has all the worst aspects of an MMO: neverending grind, steep learning curve, hostile design that penalizes players, and game breaking bugs/exploits that make even some of the more fun things about the game unbearable. If I wanted to be this miserable while playing a game, I recommend just playing EVE Online. At least there you can do whatever the fuck you want while you're miserable.

Due to my age, 70, it took some time getting used to the controls, but I think I have almost mastered them. The game is quite exciting and requires thought of what you are doing. Do not try to rush and you will enjoy the game and receive much pleasure.

Well, I can't because I get past the launcher with email verification process. I spent almost an hour trying to do so. Don't waste your time like I did. Game maker requiring customers to do this to use a product they purchased legally is a form of intrusion! This is only my second review ever and I was annoyed enough to post this one!

Look, I'm pretty old and not a huge gamer although I've had my fun. My son got me into ED and holy crow, pretty steep learning curve but once you get the hang of it, well, I love it! Elite Dangerous is a great game and a hell of a sandbox to play in... Odyssey has some issues but hell, it's so damned big! And fun. And crazy. And mind boggling. And... well, you get the idea. Get in here!

This is the best space game. Because it has lots of space. And it has our space. Star Citizen has space but it's too small, and Eve Onilne has huge space but not as big as the Milky Way, and you aren't actually flying but clicking on stuff. Elite Dangerous is you in our future with amazing ships you captain for real with a HOTAS controller if you are smart. Get the cheap T.Flight. It's perfect for this game. Then do what you would do if you were in a future with beautiful ships. Find a job. Be a bounty hunter or an explorer or trader or cargo expert. Your call. You can do it in Elite. Because it's the best space game.

I've played 3200 hours at the time of writing. The game is not without flaws, but most complaints people have with the game have been addressed at this point, the game has been out for 6 years and is still receiving new content, and for 60 dollars you won't find more depth of entertainment, especially if you get into a squadron and have people to help you through the more grindy portions of the game. I fly because I love it, not because I'm trying to accomplish anything or unlock anything at this poit. Odyssey has been a breath of fresh air and is something the game needed, but I still love being in the cockpit and squaring off against a wing of enemies or an alien space craft that could easily wipe me out.

The most complicated game i've ever seen, 20 hours in yet only completed one BEGINNER mission so far, one mission i honestly worked for 8h to do it, searched it on youtube, reddit, forums and then i give up.

Has the BEST community, i was out of fuel in middle of the endlesss galaxy, i was looking for what to do when you were out of fuel and some 2015 reddit post told me to go to some very very old irc group called Fuel Rats, it was 5 a.m. and some random dude from that irc channel asked me questions, made me disable some modules so i can live a little bit longer, after 25min he found me in the galaxy and supplied fuel to me (this thing does not benefit him at all). Weird. SUPER WEIRD. but it happened.

I've logged over 1000 hours in this game, more time invested in a single game than any other. That in itself is an indicator of why this game is good. It isn't perfect, but I guarantee you, you will never play a game so vast in scale. In an imperfect universe, at least with Elite you can explore any part of it, do anything, be anyone. It's a sandbox space sim, with no box to keep the sand in. I've explored most things in the game, turns out I'm terrible at combat. I still enjoy it. I like exploring. I still have a great deal of places still to go, many more hours of play left.

If you don't want to have to invest time in a game, want quick results, this isn't the game for you. But if you want the freedom to explore the galaxy, to fulfil your bounty hunter dreams, battle giant alien ships, solve mysteries, this game might be the one for you.

There is a ship to suit anyones style of play, and a gameplay mode to match. Sometimes the game is dull, sometimes incredibly exciting. All of the time beautiful. And nothing. Nothing beats the feeling of discovering an Earth like planet that no-one else has ever seen, or walking on some far flung planet at sunrise, knowing that no-one else has ever stepped foot there before. Or finally, bringing down that massive acid spitting alien ship for the first time, even though your cockpit canopy has blown and you are slowly running out of oxygen in the void. Only question on that last experience- will you make it back to the station...

After playing this game for over 1400 hours, I can definately say that 'As wide as an ocean, but only 1 inch deep' is a perfect description of this game.

I've browsed through some of the other negative reviews, and they outline perfectly well what my concerns are as well, so I will spare you the wall of text.

Bottom-line is: This game is best described as a tech demo with a very narrow 'good-weather' scenario, but all else is just let-down after let-down.

It's like buying an oldtimer Alfa Romeo or Lada; as long as you simply want to amaze yourself by the beauty of the car, the story behind it, but are not interested at all in the actual performance, reliability and fun of the ride, you're good.

Elite Dangerous is a relic of something that could have been great, but has never been as great as the potential it had. And lessons learned from the past tell us that it will forever remain a relic.

I recommend this game in the state Horizons is currently in. I do not recommend it for the state Odyssey is currently in. Although I feel the benefits outweigh the downsides when it comes to the game overall, and since Odyssey is not a free expansion, the positive review takes majority here for obvious reasons.

Elite Dangerous is an incredible space trading / combat / mining / exploration game. You can do so many different things to fit your own playstyle. One word pretty well summarizes basically any activity you do in this game though: GRIND! Oh yeah, it is a grinding game. Be ready for it. Take advantage of the many YouTube tutorials to get started & learn the basics before getting too deep into anything. It can be a lot of information at first.

500 hours in on Horizons I feel happy with the game and the time I've spent playing it. I can confidently say that I will not play Odyssey until it is in a better state than it is currently. I could go on for far too long regarding what's wrong with it. Frontier (the developers) appear to be making efforts to improve it, I just hope that it does come true and doesn't turn out to be false promises / hopes.

After holding on to hope that eventually things might change with how Frontier is run, putting up with countless bugs that I have zero indication or idea if they're being worked on, and seeing the community managers flat out ignore or lie to the community at large, I can no longer stand to play this game.

I tried so very very very hard to love it. 2899 hours hard...(plus a few months while Horizons launcher wasn't compatible with Steam!!) For a while I could. There's a lot of things you can love. But the pile of things you cannot love is thrice bigger and much more invasive and visible to the player. In the end even before Odyssey, Elite felt like a ton of work to play. I can't really recall any time that was just simply enjoyable without having to work for it. So...

So long, and thanks for all the... bugs?

edit:

@Frontier_Ikaros
Thank you for taking time to respond and suggest the bug tracker. I have used it! But there seems to be a hard limit of 6 issues you can report and you cannot report more until one of those which you have already reported are marked complete or invalid. They count against you even if they are any in any other status.

New expansion broke the game so badly that even if you don't own it all aspects of the game are made worse by the myriad of bugs, convoluted ui features and poorly implemented changes and features to the over all generation of planets.

Frontier essentially charged full price for an expansion that they must have known was entirely broken, or failed completely at the entire testing process every step of the way. Again this won't just affect you if you own the newest expansion -
(which only just recently at the time of this review fixed doing land missions with friends - one of the MAIN features that was advertised prior to the expansions launch)
-but the sheer lack of effort or malicious milking of the long term fans for one final cash grab negatively impacts all players and while it might not ruin the otherwise amazing (base) game, it's hard to ignore both the negative implications for the game as it stands, but for the game in the future (if it has one, feeling like the latest expansion was a rushed final cash grab before they abandon the game)

Elite: Dangerous is a free-form career game set in space. It is the latest in the series of games that started in 1984, that started with the original Elite and was followed by Elite II: Frontier and Frontier: First Encounters. I have played each game in the series, especially the original, on the BBC Micro computer, Amstrad CPC 464 and Commodore Amiga.

Elite: Dangerous goes above and beyond the scope of the previous games. Taking place in a incredibly vast playing area, you can choose from a variety of professions without being pinned down to just one or two career choices. You can be an explorer, outer space miner, trader, mercenary, pirate, bounty hunter, courier, privateer, search & rescue or operate a passenger liner. It is up to you who you work for and what morality you prefer.

The galaxy you get to play in is truly gargantuan. There are an incredible number of planets that are in just one sector alone. Zooming out and seeing the rest of the galaxy, that is beyond the current human colonised systems, shows just how vast the game is.

Graphically the game is absolutely fantastic. Everything has a professional, classy and believable look to it. The interface, the different ships, the cockpits, and space stations all look stylish and convincing. I loved the original Elite but never really liked the two sequels. I think that those two games were too far before their time and the home computers (and PC technology) of the day just couldn't match the ambition. Therefore, there were many things that ended up looking tacky and amateurish. For E:D, this couldn't be further from those days. It still follows the original designs of the ships and space stations. If you are familiar with the old wireframe vector designs you can still see and appreciate the shape of the modernised versions. It's also nice to see all the old favourites back, along with their names of different snakes.

Audio is another major accomplishment. Everything sounds incredible! Inside or outside of your ship, it all seamlessly combines with the graphical prowess. Everything has a satisfying beep and click to it as you perform an action inside your ship. Weapons sound excellent, as do the engines of your ship and others flying past you. The hyperspace and supercruise drive system always sounds great as it builds up. Voice work is amazing and really adds to the atmosphere (and thankfully is truly professional, unlike the camp speech used in Frontier: First Encounters, when Full Motion Video was all the rage on PC in the mid 1990s). Your ship's status has voice detail which adds to the overall sci-fi atmosphere (and can be customised. I was surprised when I heard the familiar voice of Norman Lovett, who plays Holly in Red Dwarf). Communications from the space stations are of similar merit. I like how the station operator will address you by phonetic alphabet, based on your chosen ship ID tag.

It is thanks to the graphics and sound that I never get bored of coming in for landing at a station. Stations will have sequential lights on their landing pads that reminds me of the movie, Outland. The larger stations spin like in the film, 2001: A Space Odyssey as you approach and just like that film and the original Elite, the classical tune, The Blue Danube plays. You can freely look around your cockpit and outside the windows, watching other ships move around as you touch down on your assigned landing pad. It all gives you a sense of scale and makes you feel part of something larger.

In the original Elite, you could only fly one ship, the Cobra Mk. III. The sequels allowed you to fly other designs. E:D is no exception. You start off in the tiny Sidewinder and depending on your choice of career, and available cash, can pick the Cobra later on or choose something else entirely. I'm glad the Fer-de-Lance is back in the game and available to you. There is also plenty of customisation when it comes to weapons and loadout. In addition, if you desire to spend real money you can customise the bodywork of your ship, add things to the cockpit or change the outfit your pilot wears. This is purely cosmetic and optional. I don't mind micro-transactions like this because they are up to you whether you want them, don't create a pay-to-win situation and you know exactly what you are buying as you get to see previews beforehand. There is still a little customisation without these purchases and your pilot is fully customisable in appearance and gender without any paywall.

E:D has an online manual. It is a good idea to read it as the tutorial alone is not enough. Even the manual itself is not enough. There is a learning curve with certain things that aren't quite explained. It is worth looking up guides or tips online to get an idea on how things work (e.g. you need to understand how supercruise works, what to set your throttle at and when to slow down when approaching your destination). You might get fined and not know why (or feel it was too harsh for what occurred) or even worse, fail to understand why you got attacked or had a bounty put on you.

A joystick is, in my view, essential. Even better would be a throttle. E:D has a lot of commands (like flight sims). It is highly configurable so you will spend time setting up things the way you want and even then will still need to use the keyboard. I can't imagine what it is like with just a mouse or gamepad.

It can be repetitive doing things, even if you enjoy them. A lot of playtime will be travelling from one place to the next and there are times when those distances are long, with non-eventful journeys. You can be in supercruise and doing nothing except waiting for the time and distance to count down. Some of the journeys are famous for their travel time. You can't jump closer to your destination and you can't go any faster. It is worth having something else to do while you are waiting, such as counting the threads in the carpet or reading something quick and light like The Lord of the Rings or War and Peace. It is the one part of the game I would be happy to see change. I know space is vast and this conveys that well but I think that the game might be more enjoyable if your ship didn't start to slow down in supercruise so early, when there are gravity wells and masses.

While very stable, there is the occasional bug when taking off, that I've noticed. When using the auto-launch feature, I've seen my ship try to go straight forward towards the exit, instead of gaining altitude first. This will come as a surprise to both you and whoever is working in the control tower in front of your landing pad. It is rare but it pays to either take off manually or just be ready to take over from the autopilot.

All in all however, Elite: Dangerous is a fantastic sequel and one that is worthy of the legacy created by the original all those years ago. You are in the galaxy with other people as well as AI-controlled ships. You can play solo, with others in a wing or fly together as part of a crew in a larger ship. The game is being added to all the time. The Horizons expansion added the ability to land on planets and explore them by vehicle. The Odyssey expansion allows you to move around on foot.

Finally, this game gave me the experience of how good a community can be. There is a group of Commanders who are known as the Fuel Rats. They are ready to help you out if you ever run out of fuel without any chance of getting to a station or fleet carrier. I'm normally careful but a longer journey left me stranded. The Fuel Rats came to my aid after I contacted them. It really was a selfless act and they required nothing in return. They help out others all the time and are well known by their reputation. They certainly impressed me with their efficiency and good deeds!

fun for a while, while there is still new stuff to learn. But after about a week or two, after you've done grinding for money and rep and engineers, have several of the best ships (out of the 5 or so good ships worth owning), bought a carrier, seen a blackhole, you'll realize that there is absolutely no content in the game. Every planet is the same rock, every space station is the same, every system is the same chore. Just pick it up on sale like I did if you wanna fly around in empty space for a week.

Elite Dangerous is quite a technical game - so much so that casual players might find the setup required to even get into it to be quite offputting.

That being said, it's a great sandbox that really lets you get out and do you own thing. The gameplay mechanics are more fun than a grind like eve online, and unlike star citizen this game actually exists.

With planetside landing, and a 1st person component coming up with Odyssey it's clear Frontier are putting in the effort to continually update their game.

Improvements? It's sometimes a little hard to get a feeling for the game world given everything is presented in a rather dry format. Some kind of storyline for single players to take part in to introduce various mechanics and give some perspective would be great.

A minor gripe is that whilst the galaxy really is there in near 1:1 scale, the types of star systems are a little limited and for the astronomy nuts amongst you it's sometimes disappointing to travel to a system only to realize it's procedural content and not updated to reflect bleeding-edge knowledge about our universe. I supppose E:D isn't really touted as a galaxy explorer, but as a subcomponent of the game it'd still be wonderful to have more accurate systems in there.

Combat can feel a little samey and playing in full online mode suffers from the same problems and strengths other MMO's do... but that's OK since if you find dealing with other humans annoying, you can just drop into solo play at any time.

Played for 48 hours years ago.
My attempt at a return has been met with the need for linked accounts, to which after jumping through the hoops, has led to my key being denied. MY KEY FROM STEAM!
Simple solution right? contact support right? NO
Support will not let you create a ticket unless you have an epic account. (didnt buy through epic games)
You must also have your error code. (havnt gotten far enough through the launcher to generate one)
Your launcher version. The one code I have.
A blood sample from your third cousins second born child. (already gave to blizzard for their account recovery)
So......wtf am I suppose to do? To late for a refund.
None of the accounts I have will accept the key, even the original.
Cannot contact support since they want me to do their jobs for them and get info I dont have access to.

I have had a better time recovering a blizzard account than I have with frontier and thats saying something.

The game may be good. Ill never know.

(UPDATE: less than 24h and the dev has responded so I will certainly be willing to update my review in the future as my perception of the game progresses.)

This game does so many things exceptionally well and makes a really great immersive experience. I really don't want to give it a bad review, but there is an aspect of the game that totally ruins it for me. As soon as you leave the starting area you will realize that a HUGE part of this game (maybe even the majority of your game time) is spent traveling. Specifically in what the game calls super cruise. You might accept a quest to kill some pirates, but those pirates are around a space station that might take 5 literal minutes to travel to. 5 minutes actually isn't even that bad, there are places that take much longer to get too. There is a 'rite of passage' in which fans of the game take an hour and a half journey to a space station to get a mug. It might be okay if super cruise had any mechanics to it what-so-ever, but it is literally just point your ship at the thing and watch a timer tick down. Players of the game defend by saying its a simulator, but this game is pure science fiction. The developers made the design decision to make roughly half of the game watching paint dry.

That said a lot of people like this game, and it might be up your alley. If you are looking for something to do while you listen to podcasts or watch a show then this might be for you, If you are looking to actually play something then it probably is not.

I picked up Elite Dangerous on one of those 75% off sales on Steam. Loaded it up the next day, started re-mapping controls, ran a few training missions, then admitted the complexity and learning curve were steeper than I wanted to dive into.

But it's that complexity that drew me back and keeps me logging in. It reminded me of the original Star Wars Galaxies that had a myriad of complex systems, that allowed the player a high degree of customization and a very wide range of choices. I've played for a couple weeks now and have only barely scratched the surface.

This one's worth taking the chance, but don't skip over the complexity and very steep learning curve. Read some reviews, watch some youtube guides, then watch some more. Be prepared to spend time configuring your controls, adjusting, then adjusting again. Then look me up when you hit launch.

This game is very binary in terms of enjoyment. Either you'll completely hate the forced grind, the skill cap, and the pace of the game, and drop it within a couple hours, or it will fit your autism so perfectly it will completely ensnare you and forcing your wife to reconsider your commitment to your marriage.

I put in 400 hours in 4 weeks, during the pandemic while working full time from home. Grinding fetch quests, then mining asteroids, then gathering engineering materials to upgrade and tune my ship; I was completely enthralled, poring over half decade old youtube instructional guides and figuring out ideal builds. My wife began to complain that I was not spending any time with her, and was instead always just in space, and more than once she went to bed alone while I was killing NPC pirate Anacondas in VR, completely oblivious to my worldly duties. I had to force myself to stop playing and attend to my wife. I would argue that Elite Dangerous taught me a valuable lesson not just about myself but also about how I should ideally assign priorities in my life.

tl;dr - If you like space, and are on the spectrum, great game. Wife may complain.

The #1 thing to keep in mind about this game is that it is a Space Simulator. There is a definitely learning curve as controls are numerous and realistic, and simulation is often tedious and unforgiving. You can choose from various unglamorous career roles - trader, bounty hunter, pirate, explorer, miner - but there is little fanfare for your achievements. You're not the main character in a story, and the game isn't giving you many instructions. You write your own story, but in a to-scale galaxy where you are largely insignificant.

That said, Elite Dangerous offers a ton of activities to keep you busy and make a mark on its background simulator. Some of the game progression - engineering/rank/technology unlocks - are tedious, but many happen naturally as you explore all elements of the game. The sound design is top-notch, and though a bit dated now, the graphics are still satisfying. Frontier continues to expand gameplay and build the universe, and I find myself returning to Elite again and again. The next expansion, Odyssey, is just another example of this.

The game truly shines in VR. With head tracking, accessing ship controls and tracking targets become second nature. Pair this with a nice pair of headphones and the virtual presence is very convincing - a must try.

This game is a carrot on a stick.

Want a medium or large ship? Grind.
Want to engineer your modules? Grind.
Want to gain rank in a faction? Grind.
Want to investigate what that strange glow is 12,600 LY away? Jump Grind.

None of these grinds are enjoyable, they are very repetitive and take a small portion of the player's soul.

The player is tricked into thinking when they finally get somewhere, there will be a whole new world that opens up. It never happens. Fdev won't let it happen, we are stuck in a galaxy that barely changes with superpowers that mean nothing. When players try to push change in the game, it is met with strong resistance too (just see the Gnosis ship cone sector incident).

You know how North Korea has those fake grocery stores that are used as propaganda to trick the rest of the world into thinking that their country has abundance? Think of that with Elite Dangerous. All these things that seem interesting end up being cardboard facades, with no depth or purpose other than to sacrifice time on to get ships.

400 billion stars in the Milky way? Only around 2,000 of those stars are inhabited by mankind, the rest are either empty or have primitive life forms. You can admire the art on the cardboard, but you can't interact with it, it's just a paper facade with art printed on it. The game looks very beautiful at times yet that is all it can be. Sure you can find some planetary extreme or discover anomalies in space, but they do *nothing* other than just increasing a number in your player stats. Exploration is only fun if you are ok with spending countless hours not discovering anything new.

Combat is the only thing that is enjoyable in this game, yet if you want a particular ship with particular loadout and engineering, the player may need to sacrifice many hours of dull in-game means of moneymaking just to be able to have that ship and have fun with it.

The ships are really fun to fly and customize, but is the grind to get these ships the way the player wants them worth it? For all that hard work a player has to do to earn the ship, they can't even walk around on board that ship. You are just locked to a seat at all times.

The thing is, the game has so much potential. It could have easily been given a lot of love from fdev to make it this massive intriguing experience, but instead they chose to underdeliver. Most of us are very critical of this game yet we still want to see it get better, clinging on to some hope that it will. Odyssey expansion is on the horizon, but a lot doubt it will be worth it and will just be more variations of the grind.

If you want a really beautiful game that has awesome space mechanics, but don't care about anything thing else then this game may be for you. If you want compelling gameplay, mission arcs, balanced space combat, space piracy, meaningful exploration that ties into story or mission arcs, then go elsewhere. The base game is a huge waste of grind, the community has create third party websites and apps to allow you to reduce the grind to 20-50% of your time after a few weeks of mining practice so you can purchase whatever ships you are interested in. That doesn't cover the grindy grind to unlock faction specific ships, and don't even get me started on engineering.

Bottom line is that at some time during the making of this game the focus was lost. Now the team is slowly but surely being drawn into the event horizon of the black hole they have crafted.

My advice is to refocus the development on utilizing the awesome underlying game mechanics to create compelling story driven game play that drives player characters together. Listen to your player base, they have awesome suggestions. Hire the third party developers and bring the most relevant tool sets into the game. I am done with it, what a waste of time...

I used to love this game. I spent more than one thousand hours playing on the PS4. It was the reason I bought a HOTAS. It was the reason I learned how to repair a HOTAS that was drifting. I liked it enough to buy it AGAIN on the PC and transfer my account to PC.

Then I noticed something about this game. I had enough credits in my account to buy two of those carriers everyone was talking about a while ago. But there was no point to it because there was nothing for me to do with the things. I was currently on my way up the Imperial Navy ranks so that I could buy my Cutter again when I noticed that if felt like I was working rather than playing a game.

This game is awful! PVE combat is boring with how stupid the AI is. PVP combat is unreacheabe until you've spent weeks, maybe months in a soul crushing grind until your prefered ship is combat ready. Otherwise it is suicide. Everything is geared towards multiplayer and it should be criminal that this game is marked as single player. From trading to combat, you either have an enourmous ship that is a flying coffin as soon as you find another player or you fly with your friends for protection. Exploration is boring! along the way they included a mini-game of sorts that just drags the process and in the end you are repeatedly doing the same over and over, finding the same things over and over again. Finding something new and exciting is so rare you can spend thousands of hours on it and you won't ever.

And now they're adding an expensive expansion with 'walking around in planets'. Basically, they'll be adding a basic shooter to an already shallow game. What the hell? How about letting me hiring NPC crew to sit on those stupid empty chairs in my ship's cockpit? I can't! Those are meant to be used by people in multiplayer. But if I was playing with other people, I'd rather they be on their OWN SHIPS helping me blow shit up, and not controlling turrets I don't need them to in my ship!

Well I've spent the last 5 years on the fence as to whether or not I'd recommend Elite Dangerous. After recently spending some time back in the game after a leave of absence I thought it was time to deliver my long overdue verdict.
Warning... this game won't be everybody's cup of tea and those looking for a shoot em up style of game should probably look elsewhere. The game is more of a slow burn experience where you do some Bounty Hunting, Trading, Mining, Exploring, Planetary mapping, Pirating, Infiltration missions and can choose to take part in a Powerplay campaign or maybe join a Wing of Commanders and take on super tough missions together. It has it all, but it's not instant. You have to work at this game and what you put in is ultimately what you get out of it.
Bear in mind that there is a heck of a steep learning curve with the game, which is something a lot of newer Gamers may not be used to. However if you want a game that you can spend hours learning and years playing then this should be on your shortlist.
In closing at this time (Dec 2020) I do recommend Elite Dangerous as it stands now that they have included the Horizons expansion in the base game. The forthcoming Odyssey expansion will only add more to the Elite experience. Right on Commander!

If you've always wanted to explore the stars yourself.
If you love customization, optimization, and fine-tuning your spaceship of choice for the task at hand.
If you're a fan of absolutely superb sound design.
If you're ready to create your own story in an ever-changing and dynamic galaxy.

Then this game just might be for you.

In all fairness, the learning curve is steep, and third-party tools are your second-best friends out there in the black.
Websites such as inara.cz, eddb.io, and coriolis.io are extremely helpful when it comes to learning about the galaxy and planning out your activities in the stars. Community radio stations and podcasts such as Lave Radio and Sagittarius Eye are great productions that discuss the most recent news and happenings in the Elite: Dangerous universe, and are also quite handy on lengthy hyperspace journeys.

Also!
For all the new players out there, if you ever find yourself stranded without fuel, don't panic! The Fuel Rats are here to help!
As a player-run organization of rescue pilots, the Fuel Rats have rescued over 80,000 commanders over the group's history, and can be contacted at their website fuelrats.com.

Fly safe commanders...
But if you can't do that, fly Dangerous. :)

Game is a good long grind. I enjoyed it because i enjoy long boring grinds - most people do not. There is very little meaningful action - so I'm not sure why so many screenshots on the steam page are action focused. There is VERY LITTLE action, just repeating for those in the back.

The game is mostly about exploring procedurally genereated systems and planets. This leads to a MOSTLY stale and boring experiance - as opposed to handcrafted worlds. It's a tad more boring/uninteresting compared to no mans sky, because it tries to be a bit more grounded in realisim - thus less variation.

Anyway, despite being boring, if you like a good grind, this is the game for you. I'm not negatively reviwing a game for being grindy, but I am going to drive that point home, it's grindy, thats it. lol

In the beginning, this is an amazing game as you flying through the stars, do some bounty hunting or trading, exploring etc. as you continue it starts to be come a grind. Hours and hours to get an engineering blueprint for your ship or you want a new combat ship or even for materials. In the end it loses it fun aspect and needs more. They have carefully added some features that help like landing and driving on the surface of planets but the need drastically to have first person movement and interaction within and without your ship, on space stations and bases, including npc interactions and some life in the universe. Elite is a good solid game with a high learning curve that will lose out to the likes of Star Citizen in the future if they don't develop it further, faster. Its price point is ok and worth a buy, if its on a special don't miss it.

Well, to be honest, you need to put quite some effort into understanding how the game and mechanics work. But when you get it, it is really fun and there are lots of things to do from exploration to smuggling. You can choose if you want to be a good or bad guy or both. I'd highly recommend it if you're into space games.

I got this game a few weeks ago and had a blast. Then last night Frontier released a patch that broke commodities, trading, and mining, by making stations demand universal across all players instead of per-player. When they did this, they did not adjust the numbers to account for the fact that demand is now shared, its still balanced around being instanced per-player, so you just. Can't sell stuff. Anyone could have told them that changing it to include all players would require rebalancing and increasing demand, but they didn't do it.

This was not in the patch notes, and they haven't acknowledged it yet at all despite listing a number of issues with that patch. Hopefully it was a bug, but right now its a mess. My ship is now filled with useless cargo that I either jettison, or lug around forever getting chased by pirates.

I don't mind diamonds spawn rates getting nerfed, but this is just bad and unfun. Half of system chat is people talking about ditching their fleet carriers they grinded for because they no longer want to deal with upkeep, how is this good design?

Lets go through this Review Point by Point since this game does have quite a bit to it

Combat: while being combat centric is certainly a viable way to play Elite Dangerous, it certainly isn't ideal for players who are new to the game and just new to Space sims in General, as for the Former its going to be really difficult to make any real money so you can get the good upgrades and the good ships, in the case of the latter, you are going to find engaging in combat difficult, since the AI doesn't really HAVE an easy mode and I seriously cannot recommend Solo play hard enough, you don't wanna take a risk against some griefers.

Exploration: Dear sweet Merciful Baby jesus does this game Have exploration out the fucking ass. No Man's Sky once Proclaimed that Every star system would be unique and have its own unique features. Elite Dangerous Makes no such Claim, however it does have a completley realistic re creation of OUR Milky Way Galaxy. Meaning literally over 100 Billion Stars to Explore, each and every one could hold a simple journey or an exciting new Adventure.

Progression: Ok here's where things get a bit Nitty Gritty, Progression in this game is... an odd duck to say the least, you don't exactly have a specific LEVEL, so much as you have several different Faction and General reputation bars, things like Your Trade experience, your Combat Proficiency, stuff like that, and there is THEORETICALLY dozens of ways to make money and get better ships, however in more Realistic terms the best way to make money is Mining. Mine the Right ores and you can make an absolute KILLING selling those ores and minerals, and if you can, get a Squadron together and all mine together, because Each Asteroid's Capacity is Client side, however the Loot each person drops is both Client AND server side, meaning that you can Triple your Output with a good group of 3

All in all Elite Dangerous does have something for everyone, it can just take a while to get to some places (for those who do get into the Mining Ventures, Hyades Sector DB-x 1-112 has Painite, one of the most valuble minerals)

I came very close to giving up on this game after the first 30 minutes. It does not put it's best foot forward, which you can tell just by reading other reviews. The 3rd party launcher + 3rd party account requirement is terrible...

BUT! It is a rewarding experience if you stick with it. It's a beautiful, relaxing game if you want it to be. Or it's an intense dog-fighter if you choose so otherwise. It's reminiscent of EVE, with a worse questing/market experience but with a WAY better dogfighting/flying experience and no paid subscription, which is a net-positive for me.

ED offers a lot.

Good stuff:
Missions, mining, trading, combat, the usual space stuff. Nothing special there.
Excellent stuff:
The true Newtonian gameplay alone offers excellent entertainment for the money. If you decide to spend time mastering to use Flight Assist off, it will provide way more than the usual vanilla flying. It offers a completely new view of the game, with lots of truly enjoyable possibilities (canyon runs, flying through installations, stations, asteroids), and those alone, are really fun. Aside the missions and the other stuff.

Horrible stuff: It is extremely grinding.
Go to X place (which takes a lot of time), collect 300 Y things (which takes anywhere between a small amout to a lot of time), go to Z place, collect 250 C things, repeat a few times, and voila, you have 1 useful item to be able to be effective (and not just ripped open) in Open (multiplayer) mode.

You need 15 items. For one ship build. There are 37 ships. See my point?

Dose the negative stuff. Dont get burned out. You will at one point. Game has no good concept.

Pros:
-Huge potential to compete with Star citizen.
-beautiful environments, atmosphere and flight controls.

Cons:
-Content drought. Over 3 years of no real content.
-Incompetent developers.
-Developers have no passion for the game. They see it as a $ making program.
-Deadlines and targets keep being pushed back endlessly. Some content are now years late.
-Completely out of touch with the community.
-Half baked mechanics/features implemented only to be removed and never seen again

-Game is getting stripped of features. Here's a list of whats gone:
=Interstellar Initiatives : gone
=Smuggling Missions : gone
=CQC : defunct
=Galnet : halted
=Story : stalled

-Paid horizons expansion and other dlc that have still not delivered any meaningful content. What did I pay $40 for an expansion for?
-FDev only focusing on creating and selling meaningless in game cosmetics on their store which serves no purpose except to make them $.

The game has been a sinking ship for a while now and with a dwindling player base the only way to save this game is for frontier developments to give up the IP and let someone else develop the game. Someone that actually cares about this game.

Most realistic and immersive space flight sim exploration sandbox available full stop. If you are looking for the raw feel of actually being the pilot of a ship in space, the feel of flight, the immenseness of space and the futuristic feel of space combat there is no other option. Other elements of the game are lacking though and can feel repetitive and grindy. I cannot overstate how genuine it feels to play this game in VR with a HOTAS, but like all sandboxes it heavily relies on a make-your-own-fun element.

FDev need to take an active interest to realise the potential that this game still has. Unfortunately they don't, as the only thing they maintain are the micro transactions through their shop. If you want any meaningful content I recommend NMS as they have successfully turned around the initial poor start they had with a well rounded game. They actively listened to the community and made a huge effort to right their initial major shortfalls and create so much more new content.

ED is still a shallow empty shell of a game with no active input from the developers, as they are all allocated to other projects..

I have in the past really enjoyed it for the sandbox that it is, but now that time is over. Maybe a better time will come again if they get off their asses and make some meaningful content rather than taking it away (Galnet).

Only time will tell.

400 hours of VR and I wouldn’t trade a minute back. This game is AMAZING in VR. There isn’t a lot of competition for clean space sim VR flight games… I’m very grateful that Elite is such a quality game that runs extremely well in VR. This game is really something special.

There is a learning curve and controls for PC take some setup if you configure something custom. I'm using a set of dual ThrustMaster T1600M joysticks (great control method for space thrusters and graceful maneuvering). Don’t expect to fly out of the station with your boosters on when you start… this game rewards those who take the time to develop their pilot skills. Don’t worry, everyone has run into the “mail slot” of a station a few times. Maneuvering will become more fluid and fun if you stick with it. VR lets you grasp the scale and distance more naturally and it’s a lot of fun maneuvering around.

I would absolutely recommend this game to anyone with a VR headset. It's an amazing experience and if you get into it, there's enough content and variety to keep you satisfied with lots of new experiences. This is a game that will give you experiences in VR… not just game play. That’s the only way I can think to describe it, it’s a breathtaking VR experience that keeps evolving with new content.

I’ve had too many amazing experiences to note them all… but I’ll share one of my first ones that really blew my mind. I was new to ship vs ship combat. The other ship took out my shields and they were starting to damage my sub systems. My cockpit started to crack… a little disconcerting. Then it failed and a huge chunk in the middle blew out! My audio changed to the sound of me breathing through a mask… sound was muffled from my ship. My normal heads up display information was present around the broken out cockpit glass and then GONE. I could see clear stars where the glass was broken. A timer for my emergency live support was ticking down in the upper right of my display. The fight was clearly over and I was looking up the closest station so I could lock on and travel there before I died. Navigation was tricky with a gaping whole in my heads up display information but I got to the station in time. At that point I didn’t even know you could target specific systems. That Pilot gave me a lesson and an experience I’ll never forget. I would have been impressed on PC, but in VR that experience was epic.

Good times, great commanders (players) and one hell of a game. A+

amazing game ..... it's like the dark souls game of space games :)))
however this is not a casual space game for you because of the hardcore gameplay and it's difficulty for flight controls - landing - combat and other stuff .
if you like a gud space RGP game to invest a lot of time in it then this is your game .
the only downer that i found within the game is the lack of good music for it which i solved using the steam music player .
