Felix The Reaper has sprung from a fascination with the sprawling, humorous and grotesque art history of Death. The history contains both The Dance of Death or Danse Macabre and Death And The Maiden as two central themes going through it. We sort of mashed those two together in Felix The Reaper.

For the character himself and the world around him the inspiration was more diverse: in that aspect, the game contains inspiration from the ancient tv-show The Twilight Zone, medieval painters like Bruegel and Bosch and the cartoon characters of Adventure Time and Hayao Miyazaki.

Another important inspiration for Felix The Reaper were the amazing artistic collaborators in the production. We've worked with dancers, a long list of music artists and historian scholars.

The Dance

Several dancers have been around throughout the production, and eventually Gunilla Lind and Rapha?l Ferdinand Eder-Kastling improvised the final moves, that ended up in the game.

Here's Gunilla doing a dance move for Felix:

And here's Raphael doing another:

The Music

Of course a game with a dancing protagonist needs great music - why else would he be dancing? We designed the game in a way that lets the music artists be themselves. We wanted them to add to the game through their personal artistic expression, rather than ask them to be what we want them to be. That makes for a varied and strange combination of music. But since the gameplay is a non-stressful puzzler, you actually have time to appreciate and enjoy the weirdness while playing.

The Art History

The idea for the game itself stems from art history. We actually started with The Danse Macabre and Death and The Maiden as a basis and then asked ourselves: how can we make a game about this? Eventually and through several different prototypes, we ended up here.

Parallel to the production a historical scholar has dived into the art history of Death across more than 10 centuries for a book manuscript he is working on, and every time he hit upon something interesting he told us, and we tried to put it in the game, if it fit. There's five different articles by this historian S?ren Hein Rasmussen within the game, that you can unlock as you progress.">

Dancing in the Shadows

I only played through the first 3 levels but that's because I personally didn't enjoy the game enough to keep going. Don't get me wrong its not a bad game in the slightest i'm just not a particular fan of these type of logic-based puzzles, hence why I got it for free and I didn't buy it.. However if you do like difficult, logic-based puzzles then this game is a great buy, the soundtrack is really good regardless and the graphics are really nice to look at.

Have good character design, good animations and good music (mostly) but the gameplay its really repetitive. After some levels you keep doing the same thing again and again. If you really love the puzzle genre, give it a chance otherwise is a no.

I will recommend it because it was fun although, just like with your mom, there's a big but.

- Scenery can't be hidden or made transparent. Extremely annoying in a puzzle game.
- Camera is locked. On any given level bigger than my toenail I will be unable to properly scout.
- Targeting is unreliable. Some games use fade-out or similar, this game uses pixelperfect, instant and very narrow drag&drop options. Which wouldn't be an issue if it weren't for timed levels. You can throw any timed level straight out the window if your inputs aren't clear enough. Right now it's obviously doable and I have done it but I hated it. I shouldn't hate a game while playing.
- Your character is slow. Like, 90-year old on a bottle of Valium slow. Anything is slower than it could be, really. I know you would have to adapt timed challenges but by god his speed is ridiculous. The fun in puzzle games is solving the puzzle, not waiting for a metaphorical loading screen.
- Speaking of timed challenges, don't show me the victory screen when I fail them. That's insulting.

Generally speaking though I love the art style, puzzles were simple enough if you aren't going for achievements and difficult enough if you are. It's very sweet and the story felt cute. There's also a few nice easter eggs and additional information.

But please, please, please improve actual gameplay. Especially user input. I shouldn't hate a game while playing it.

Annoying puzzles.
Very long-winded, yet incapable of saving progress upon interruptions. The game doesn't respect players' time.

Additionally, the controls are weak and irritating. Objects keep being put at the wrong place. Aiming is rather difficult indeed. Rotation is available, as well as a degree of zoom, but no scrolling, no way to look further. As a result, it's hard to get a full picture of the task at hand, and it's also hard to spot certain objects that happen to be paramount.

I keep telling myself that I'll come back to finish it, because I like the art, but I never do, because the game is, in fact, boring.

all around nice game 3D puzzles being the main focus with a little story development.
Felix is one hellova lovely memorable character with all that sway.
But in the end it's just another puzzle game.
i thought dancing/music was some sort of core gameplay element from the trailer. But it's not.
Its really not that interesting to pick up some rock and place them somewhere else over and over again.
i hate myself for not recommending this but the gameplay really needs to be a bit more variations.

Imagine Baby Driver, but his name is Felix and he's a reaper who doesn't have a drivers license.

Perhaps I've stretched that a bit too much. In a nutshell Felix The Reaper is a solid puzzle game - good tunes, charming visuals and a simple plot which honestly has the potential for a TV show or comic - that and there's even a small didactic section where you get to learn the portrayal of death throughout time.

Unfortunately the biggest problem I have with the game is the gameplay - everything feels a bit too forced after beating it. Levels become monotonous, specially if you want to collect all the coins and skulls - you either memorise them or watch a guide. The novelty becomes repetitive and I don't know to what extent I'd carry on if it weren't for the visuals and the entire concept behind. To be fair, they do try to bring in the variety multiple times with slightly different modes but... disappointingly I don't think it was enough.

Regardless, it's still fun for a while. Felix The Reaper left me the lasting impression that it'd shine more on a TV screen rather than as a game.

Felix the Reaper is a puzzle game that has great dedication to aesthetic and personality, but that ends up also being its greatest weakness.

Pros:
-Neat level design, I enjoyed the mechanic and depth of turning the camera to manipulate shadows, as well as the added elements in later levels.
-There is an active goal in each level that adds into a story, its not just puzzles for the sake of puzzles.
-The bonus levels add more game for those who aren't satisfied with the main story.
-Lots of personality; Your character is always dancing fluidly, fun narration, unique and interesting story, and cool references to art history.

Cons:
-The environment, while nice to look at, lacks clarity. There were multiple times where I didn't notice that necessary objects were interact-able and not just part of the decor. It can also be difficult to gauge how long the shadows will be without trial and error.
-The character designs are certainly... unique? I appreciate the stylization but I did not find it appealing and it turned me off from the game a bit.
-The gameplay can be quite clunky. While Felix's dancing is a nice bit of polish, it also makes each move and step take 3 times as long and not feel as sharp as they could.
-The medals for normal levels are wack. They all basically come down to redoing the level quickly with no mistakes after you've figured out the solution. Unlike the bonus levels they don't challenge you in any additional way.

Ultimately I think that this is a decent puzzle game that has a lot of love and creativity put in, but is bogged down by design choices that favor aesthetic over clarity and fun. I think some simple UI changes/options like highlighting/outlining interact-able objects and having the option to streamline movement would greatly improve the experience and turn it from a tiring slog into a hidden gem of a game.

Good to hear Patrick narrating this game, but the budget for the actor's voice must have been pricey, because you only hear him on the final levels. The puzzles are hard and frustrating, with little feeling of reward. I did fall in love with Felix, but I wanted to murder every barrel I saw. Watch a gameplay video to get the idea of the game. I certainly wasn't able to finish the game without a walkthrough.

It was an alright game, but I got bored pretty fast and didn't really want to start playing again once I stopped. The game is really well made and looks super pretty, and I like the funky dances that he does. I really wish there was a neutral review option, because it definitely wasn't a bad game, it just wasn't fun for me. So yes, I do recommend this game if you're okay with a difficult puzzle game that is tedious at times. It is definitely not worth $25, and if I had payed full price, then this review would be negative for sure. At the current price of $2.99 I don't feel like I wasted my money, but I do feel like I could have spent it better.

I wanted to like this game, but could not wrap my head around it. I think I'm not going to finish it, not even using a walkthrough. I don't like giving up on things halfway through, and I do like puzzle games and I thought a dancing reaper sounded fun. But...

I finished the first chapter by myself, after months I sat down to continue playing, but I just can't do it. I can't enjoy it. I've finished the second chapter. It just feels like a work you have to do but you really don't want to do it and keep delaying it. Maybe I just find the puzzles too hard or taking too much time to figure it out? And I just don't feel the pull to keep working on the solutions and play with this game.

My first thought was to recommend it anyway, since I wouldn't say it's a bad game, if you like dark humour and puzzles. The game seems to be well put together. You might like it. However I tend to dislike the idea to ever play it again so much that I couldn't bring myself to recommend it wholeheartedly. : (

I'm still playing, so it's possible that I may change my review. (I have games open in the background a lot, so my hour count is not accurate) The puzzles are fun enough but sometimes it's really unclear what the objective to a level is. Perhaps that's supposed to be part of the puzzle.

I also find some of it to be more cruel than funny. I don't care about the gore, but it seems like some of the puzzles are just torturing the animals/people, and that has turned me off this game a lot.

It's a good puzzle game. Quite hard overall, though I found that the levels are all over the place in terms of difficulty, with some normal levels being significantly more difficult than the hardcore versions. There are a couple of milestones to reach for each level, each one giving you a skull out of three, plus a hardcore version for an additional skull for a total of four/level. Getting skulls unlocks additional timed challenges and achievements. These bonus levels are cancer and they made my neurons hand in their resignations.

The game plays well with a grid based level with snap points for movement and object manipulation. The controls won't get in your way, however, when trying to complete the milestones and speed is required I found the snap points require accuracy and precision or camera rotation in order to register properly which is a bit of a hassle and can get annoying. It ran perfectly and I never experienced any kind of stability issues or bugs.

There's not much in the way of story, enough to make it mildly interesting. The way you go about killing people and the death scenes are quite funny, in a dark and twisted way, and there's a bit of real life history about death in art and literature which I found very interesting. The visual style is quite nice, with a minimalist aesthetic to it, and the menu and loading screen art is excellent. The soundtrack is also very good, a kind of experimental electronica, although I have to say it is not for dancing. Something a little more upbeat, like the trailer showed, would've been even better in my opinion.

In conclusion, the game is well made, polished enough, entertaining and it pushed my monke brain to its limits. Recommended!

Concept and backstory is neat, at least from what I could see from finishing the first chapter but after 2437834 crashes I gave up.

Seriously constant crash-fest, glad I got it for snack price. Might give it another go if it gets updated in the future.

It felt great for the first hour. Felix is animated wonderfully, music is great, naration is done by Sir Patrick. But all of that starts to fade away the longer you play - Patrick is not used much after the start, music starts repeating, puzzles get nonsensical and there's no pause button, so if you do want to chase achievements, you better start over (the time just ticks away).
But, it is enjoyable couple of hours (can be beat in 2 hours, but I took my time) and I got it for $1.

A love story about death told by Sir Patrick Stewart.

Felix The Reaper is oddly charming for a game that's all about murder. It has a unique art style and a funky concept. The game is drastically harder than I expected so I'm not acting as an achievement hunter for this one.

This game a great polish (beautiful art) but... the problem is that puzzles are quite hard and at the same time not very appealing. You have to make efforts to progress in the game, but i saw no point in making those efforts... it actually feels like a loss of time, thinking about all the great games out there that are just waiting to be played.
Some people may like it though, but it didn't work for me.

Got this through Humble Bundle Choice.
Thought the art was fantastic however didn't care for the style of puzzle. It was just too complex at times (especially the hardcore puzzles). Probably wouldn't recommend this especially not for the absurd amount of $25. Go spend your money on any other puzzle game and you could probably have more fun.

Also have to agree with others that the music is repetitive and rather annoying. Had to turn it off and turn Spotify on instead.

First off, I really wanted to love this game. The artwork is great, and the whole thing is pretty much peak British humor. The core design of the puzzles is unique but gets repetitive quickly. However what really tips the scales is the music, or rather the stunning lack of it-- Look at Felix go, he's breaking it down to... uh... some very chill atmospheric tracks. Pick it up on sale and enjoy it for a bit, perhaps. I feel like I played it for just long enough................................................

Neat concept and style, but this game is not for me. Felix is too slow, the music is pretty repetitive, and the puzzles can have really obscure solutions. And on that last point, the game can also get very hand-holdy, but when it's not doing that, you're entirely left without direction. Was overall quite frustrating for me to play.

I normally like these kind of games but something just didn't click for me. The loading times are long, the gameplay gets pretty stale without the addition of new elements, and there is a lack of any real difficulty curve. I did like the art, cutscenes, and music, but it felt like a real slog to get to the end (there is a reason only 3.4% of players have completed the standard campaign).

I definitely didn't buy it just because my name is Felix

In the hands of more competent developers, this could have been a neat little puzzle game. It's clear they put a lot of work into this. Unfortunately, they put in all the wrong work in all the wrong places, resulting in a baffling, mediocre, and bafflingly mediocre game that has no idea what it wants to be.

* Poor UI all around
* Awkard control scheme and clunky movement. Why does the character move so damn slow? Why can't I just control him directly like any other sokoban-adjacent puzzler? Why can he pathfind when I tell him where to move, but not when I tell him where to place an object? etc. It feels like all the control- and camera-related code was pulled in verbatim from a different game in a completely unrelated genre!
* An obnoxious aesthetic and story that have literally nothing whatsoever to do with the essense of the gameplay. Feels like gameplay and art were done completely independently and then slapped together at the end with no thought as to how they'd mix.
* A gameplay metrics system that is completely pointless and clashes fundamentally with the genre of the game.
* Bad music in a game with an aesthetic built entirely around music.
* The usual artifacts of relying too much on off-the-shelf tech. Loading screens that are just a bit too long to be reasonable for how little they're actually loading. Cascaded shadow mapping with a very ugly hard cutoff, even though the levels are small and floating in space, so they could have easily just had a single high-res shadow map fitted perfectly to the size of the level! This could be a small nitpick in another game, but not when the gameplay is based around shadows so you're constantly scrutinizing them!

Instead of blindly trying to slap a thin veneer of High Production Value™®© over what is at its core a simple puzzle game, put that effort into making the core game as good as possible. The people who would be interested in the gameplay of this game will appreciate that a lot more than they will appreciate any amount of crude slapstick cutscenes, dancing animations, or snarky voiceover.

In less than 30 min you fell that there is something fishy with this one.

Mainly the lack of logical purpose of what we are doing.
You will be ask to do something but you don't know why, only a cut scene will explain.
And the controls are not very good, the puzzle solving is so tedious with this light and shadow thing.

Less than 30% have finished the first chapter...

But at least one person is having fun on this one... Felix

It's a very fun and challenging puzzle game wherein you'll need a lot of spatial awareness, or maybe a lot of trial and errors to fully complete a level. The controls take some time getting used to. They're actually quite simple, but I tend to forget that I shouldn't turn the sun just yet, or else Felix will be caught out in the light, making me restart levels a few more times than I should. And speaking of Felix, his idle animations alone will entertain you. The music's also quite catchy and nice, so I understand why Felix is dancing all the time. The game also includes interesting history regarding the depiction of Death throughout the ages. Overall, it's a very challenging game, one that might take you a lot of time to get through depending on how good you are. I have a no commentary full playthrough (well, mostly the full campaign) here if you wish to see it: https://youtu.be/vJxPlH2RAHU

This is a self-impressed game that pulls you in with it's quirky style, smooth moves, and dulcet tones. I picked it as one of this months Humble-Choice thinking those things alone would keep me entertained.

After an excruciating intro, tutorial, chapter one, and start to chapter two, i can say this game is not as advertised. Why was it excruciating? Well, the narration, albeit from Patrick Stewart was boring, loading times are absurd for a puzzle game, puzzles are repetitive, and the things you think will give you joy about this game are absolute window-dressing.

Rife with glitches and hints that are completely out of sequence. Examples: I got a hint that I could hover the sun dial after three puzzles and being graded for getting caught in the sun on said puzzles, and clicked on a barrel that disappeared only to reappear frustratingly after several sun dial pushes. Should I keep playing just to get the achievements and cards for this? Someone play it for me as I watch paint dry instead please...

At 80% off if you really like puzzle games then go ahead, it's probably still better than watching something on Netflix, but miss me at it's price tag otherwise.

Patrick Stewart narrates ... but wow is it ever wasted on this game.

The game is boring. I'm not sure how it manages such a good Steam rating but I think the achievements show the truth more clearly than anything I could say:
70% of players finish the tutorial
33% of players finish the first chapter (of 5)
12% of players finish the second chapter

If 6 friends play the all of the tutorial, 3 will make it to the end of the first chapter and only 1 will stick it out to the end of the second... and that's not even half way through the game.
That final friend has more sticking power than me because I'm done after 1 chapter.

Felix the Reaper is a top-down grid-based puzzle game about being a trainee reaper, setting up cruel and unusual deaths for people.

The core gameplay is pretty simple. As a reaper, you can only move in the shadows. There are four primary ways to manipulate shadows:

1) You can shift the direction of the shadows by 90 degrees.
2) You can pick up and move boxes, barrels, and similar items to cast shadows.
3) You can throw levers to move objects around in the environment.
4) You can stand on buttons (or place objects on buttons) to move objects around in the environment.

These very simple mechanics combine with level layouts to create complex puzzles, many of which require lateral thinking in order to acquire the objects you need and move them through the level to reach your objectives.

All of the levels are ultimately solved either by throwing a hard-to-reach switch or by moving some object to a destination to cause some sort of mayhem, like moving a goat in front of a dog so it bites its tail.

There are 5 sets of 4-5 levels, each with its own little theme, as you set up some horrible death for some character; half of them are set in medieval times and half in the 1980s, but there’s no meaningful mechanical differentiation between the eras, it is purely cosmetic. The levels are not generally too difficult to complete (though some are tricky), and there is an in-game hint system if you are stuck.

If you want an additional layer of challenge, you can try and complete optional objectives – completing the levels in a minimal number of moves, or minimal shifts of the sun, or within a certain time limit, or only moving a limited distance, or taking minimimal actions. These vary from level to level, but while they took some practice, none were overly onerous – though some of the action limits do require you to exploit the levels efficiently to avoid unnecessary movements.

There are also “hardcore reaper trainee” levels, which are remixes of the main levels, but often with heavily altered arrangements, resulting in a significantly more difficult solution – at least in theory. In practice, while they’re ostensibly harder than the mainline levels, if you are trying to get the skulls on the mainline levels, they’re not really much different in terms of the time they’ll take to beat.

Overall, the game will probably take you about 5 hours to beat if you are just trying to get through all the levels ASAP, and probably about 10-15 hours if you are trying to 100% it.

But I guess I haven’t really answered the central question: is the game good?

I think it’s fairly decent. It’s not the best puzzle game I’ve ever played, but a bit of clever lateral thinking is required to solve many of the puzzles, especially efficiently. The overall quirky nature of the game is also fun, with a dancing reaper swaying to the music. On the downside, the strictly linear nature of the game means that if you are struck on a puzzle, you have to keep beating against it until you beat it – though all the mainline levels can be solved with the help of the hint system.

If you’re a fan of puzzle games, this is a reasonable enough example, but if you are looking for something more action-oriented, this is not the game for you.

I played 3 chapters before calling it good enough. Most reviews and most of the marketing surrounds the 'dancing' and music which is disappointing because the novelty of those items wears off quick. This leaves you with just the game play... which there isn't much off. There's only three mechanics: carry items around, change the sun from left to right, don't walk in sun. There is only so much you can do with those and maybe some people will appreciate how far the developers took them but like everything else in this game, it got old quick.

I really don't know why people are recommending this game based off the dancing or quirkiness - it barely plays into anything and doesn't have an affect on anything substantial. Spend your money and time elsewhere.

After the first hour:

This is a puzzle game where the player has to create situations that cause target's deaths at least that’s the stated purpose. In reality much of Felix the reaper is about moving certain objects to goal locations, and in that way, it’s a solid puzzle game.

The story is that Felix the Reaper is in love with Betty, a Maiden of Life, I don’t know if puzzle games need stories. But something is endearing with the story of Felix the Reaper. However, I do have to call out there’s very suggestive imagery here. It’s not awful but this game is pretty much geared towards adults.

The fact that Felix is dancing the entire time on the screen is also really funny, and I love how he moves. Rather than having a set of standard walk cycles, Felix seems to boogie all over the board and the game shouts out famous lyrics when you do something right. Like I said this game can be charming.

Much of the game is moving the sun back and forth between two locations and trying to build a bridge in the shade to various targets, usually moving the target object from one location to another. It’s a simple concept but there’s a good challenge in almost every level here.

The downside of the game is that there’s not a ton of levels, though there are a couple of standard “challenges” such as moves, correctness, and timing. There’s also a Hard mode for every level in the game and each hard level is brutal, and then collectibles on those hard levels as well.

I wanted to like this game. The character/level design, in game lore, and music are totally my thing. But I got so bored and frustrated on the very first level. It just feels like a lot of clicking the sun back and forth, and picking up and placing objects. The worst crime of a puzzle game has to be boring repetitive game mechanics. That only works for match 3 games.

I was hoping for more strategy (like Final Fantasy Tactic, or Mario Vs Rabbids). There is a lot of love in the game from the devs, from the illustration to the animations. But I couldn't get into it. I tried playing it 2-3 more times with the same results. Too bad.

Funny little puzzle game. The difficulty is a bit off, often the hardcore levels are easier than the normal ones. Also some are really hard while others are comparatively easy despite being at the end of the game.

The only thing that bothers me is repetition. There are time challenges that simply end if the time runs out, so you have to repeat the first x steps over and over again just to try something out shortly before the time runs out again. Also there are disappearing tiles, so if you make 1 mistake, you have to restart the level (thank god, there aren't many of those levels).

The story is neat, but totally irrelevant, like patrick stewart's voice. I really wish we could see more about the department of death/life and Felix/Betty/narrator.

Graphically/Performance wise the game is good, the controls are ok (played it with keyboard/mouse), the camera work could be better (only zooming in/out, rotating, no free camera movement) but doesn't bother too much.

Overall a good game with about 10-20hours of playtime.

Came for the music, stayed for the dance moves.

Nice game mechanics, interesting levels. However, the story is very brief and not very rewarding. And the music is a bit of a letdown as I very quickly silenced the game and put on my own music because the effect sounds became too annoying.

Overall a humorous and demanding puzzle game, maybe a bit too expensive for the short time needed to finish it. Except if you're into collecting all the bonus goals which I did not bother with because they do not really augment the fun of playing Felix the Reaper .

I absolutely love Felix the Reaper. The way Felix dances around the map as you some the puzzles, is cute & a lot of fun to watch. Like all puzzle games, its starts off easy and gets harder as you go though the levels. And of course after you beat the game, you then can play the more difficult levels, which are just as fun but more challenging.
When it comes to the music, its catchy and quite enjoyable. The story is what really got me into playing the game & its really a good story.

I love puzzle games, and this one oozes with brilliance in its presentation: it has charming graphics, funny animations, catchy music and a wonderfully weird theme and characters. There are historical essays about Death in culture as well as developer commentary about the dancers that influenced how the main character moves. The game even has Sir Patrick Stewart providing voice-over!

But there's barely any game to go along with it. The entire thing is 23 levels long (or ~5 hours to complete, if you don't plan to redo the levels to get perfect runs). And you don't even get to be the Grim Reaper in most of these levels - majority of objectives are such exciting tasks as delivering barrels of beer or attaching rubber hoses to old cars. And for the most part, you will be doing it on the same five maps over and over again.

The mechanics itself are simple and don't really go nowhere after the basics are introduced. You get buttons and switches that move stuff, and you can stack stuff - but the levels don't really get harder, they just get bigger and longer. The solutions don't feel clever or rewarding, they feel tedious.

The interface is somewhat clunky. The main feature of the game is changing the light/shadow position, but the preview of the action is a pretty animation that is way too slow. Why isn't there a simple highlight appearing on mouse-over (and why there is no preview of movable objects' shadows whatsoever) is mind-bending. Hint system instead of being helpful is a puzzle of it's own.

Finally: theme - the game labels itself as a romantic comedy about death. But there's no romance. The object of the hero's desires is a trophy girl which with no characterization (or spoken lines) and what he displays towards her is only a creepy fascination of a Peeping Tom (with loading level sketches clearly portraying him as one). To make matters worse, there's hardly any comedy either - there are jabs at ministerial bureaucracy, characters have cartoonishly big butts and a couple of pious nuns die violently (but not as violently as you would expect after watching Happy Tree Friends). There's even barely any death - after the tutorial level, which promises a funny corpse-laden romp through a day of a Grim Reaper, the game feels more like Felix the Janitor, an overproduced short about stacking barrels.

At the premium asking price this game is a huge disappointment.

I usually enjoy puzzle games but beating these puzzles doesn't give much satisfaction. Its a lot of picking up objects and working your way to another part of the level to put them down and doing this through out every level over and over again until you get it right. It doesn't feel fun just like a tedious chore.

A very enjoyable grid-based puzzler involving shadow mechanics as a means to dictate your possible routing for fulfilling your quest goals sparkled up with dark humor about death: this being you, the Grim Reaper in training.

I bought the game for 10€, which given the content, is a fair deal. I wouldn't buy it for the full prize though due to lack of content as far as levels go, even if counting the hardcore levels.

This game is so lovely and thoughtful. At first I wasn't sure how a reaper and dance go together, but each chapter has some historical trivia you can read and having done so, everything makes so much more sense! The dancing is not just a nice thing to look at, but it relates back to something and I found that you can find meaning in a lot of such details. It really makes me see how much love and effort the developers put into this game.

As for the puzzles, up to (including) chapter 3 I never felt frustrated or not challenged enough. There were some puzzles that took me longer to figure out while I got a grasp of others more quickly which made it all in all a very nice experience. Now, I do love puzzles so it might be more difficult for others, but the mechanics itself are rather easy so even if it takes some time, you will get there eventually. There is an option to get a hint for your next move if you are stuck or simply think about something the wrong way (like I admittedly did once).

The main story is simple and not really the main focus for what I have played so far, so not much I can say about that expect it makes sense (refering to the beginning of my review). Each death has its own little story though and the developers managed to surprise me in some way with every single one of them. The macabre humor is just the way I love it! I'm looking forward to the chapters I haven't played yet.

The graphics are fairly simple, but nice and fitting.
The music is great in my opinion, the sfx maybe even more so (the deer in ch.1 is hilarious!) and the voice-over is done by Sir Patrick Stewart. Need I say more?

In the end, there is only one negative thing I can say so far: While reading the historical trivia, it's not easy to tell the comma and full stop/period apart (at least in german, I haven't looked at other languages). It didn't bother me a lot, because you can often tell by the flow of the text, but I tripped over that a few times.
Other than that minor detail, I am fully enjoying myself!

Uhhhhh, LOVE this puzzler, it has a lot of headscratching, but once you get a feel for it, the rewards are the bomb.

Nice and even old school to a certain extend and bloody grim dark comedy in the cutscenes for sure.

And the god damn Death is dancing throughout the gameplay. He is in love with life apparently. Betty life is called.

Lean back! Don't be in a hurry, that makes it the more rewarding. You can always chase achievements, and fuzz about it if you want, but luckily it's not forced on you.

Ok, that was a bit all over, but I really love this experience, and I was in a hurry to do this review. I've never done one before.

Played till midway in chapter 2 now, and the game is evolving great, but I'm looking forward to those teleporters, right, I saw teleporters somewhere.

Go be Felix, he is lovely. And his music is wild, and sometimes crazy wild, but you can change the tune in the menu, which sometimes I had to tbh.

(But I also had the game just running, while doing other things, because the track I had landed on was sweet whistling stuff, I liked.)

I love puzzles but this game is too hard for me. The optimal time for a level will show 2 minutes and it'll take me 20. Love the art style and idea of the game but my brain is mush now.

The art is simply gorgeous, the sense of humor behind everything is fresh, and I love the concept of the game. Felix himself is wonderful, and I'd love to play the character more...
The gameplay on this is...unpleasant. I love riddles and puzzles, but by the second level this becomes tedious and maddening. There's no real gentle tutorial process, whereby the levels get progressively more difficult...the mechanics are introduced (mostly...some of them you figure out for yourself), then it's on full difficulty level.
I was looking forward to playing through the plot (the tagline is that it's a romantic comedy about the life of death)...and a plot would have given me a reason to go muddling through the frustration of the levels. The levels get maddening long before any story kicks in, so with no payoff in sight, I'm out of motivation to continue. Asking for a refund.
