Wirklich sehr Empfehlenswert richtig Top!

Why am I reviewing a game that you can't buy on Steam anymore? I don't know! The new sprites take some getting used to but the extra classes are fun, although I don't care for the bonus dungeon. All in all the game's still a blast, I love how Final Fantasy V doesn't take itself too seriously.

Now Square-Enix, bring Final Fantasy Tactics (War of the Lions) to Steam so I can finish my collection!

Im saying no only because this game does not work. It won't launch unless you rename some files. It also doesn't have controller support, you'll have to change some file names here too.
Also, this isn't available to purchase anymore because SE wants all attention on their precious new/old remasters because they love selling us the same games over and over again. So that's a bummer, nothing an emulator can't fix though, considering SE likes to delist games whenever they want.

This review is sort of pointless since Square Enix left the game and everyone who purchased this version in the dirt so kind of weird honestly to not even offer any kind of way to upgrade to the pixel remaster version but what can you do at this point so I'm just going to review the game itself for the sake of putting my thoughts on it somewhere.

It's not the most interesting Final Fantasy to play, story is generic and I hardly managed to get attached to any character it's not bad but it follows the line of what its predecessors would do with crystals protected by chosen heroes and the antagonist trying to steal/destroy them to become the most powerful being and so on. I had some moments that I just wanted to put the game down because a bland story doesn't take you very far before your eyes glaze over and you start skipping dialog altogether. Thankfully after a while the gameplay started to grow on me and the customisation got me interested so I managed to finish and enjoy the game more because of that, I'd say it's the kind of game where if you can't get into the character progression and gameplay overall it's going to be rather hard to have much fun with it. The game has a job system much like Final Fantasy 3 but slightly better, the part of it that felt fun was how whenever you max a job the freelancer job will receive some bonuses like stats and abilities later down the line making it the best job in the game when a lot of jobs are mastered. It's possible to master every job on every character and the further the story is progression the more jobs are unlocked letting you experiment with new stuff. I don't have much to talk about it because at this point I've played every Final Fantasy games except 1,2 and 15 so I've seen it all and this one comes out as generic, I enjoy generic sometimes but I'll also probably forget about it very quickly because nothing really stood out for me that I haven't seen before.

All of that nonsense to say that it's a game where the story isn't very interesting to follow, it's acceptable and has rare moments but overall when considering playing this game it's more important to know if you are the kind of person that is interested in getting into the job system because that's the best part of the game as much as I am a story first kind of person with Final Fantasy games that's just how it is for this one. 7/10 it took me some time to get into it but when I did I had fun building my own party.

As you can tell by the amount of hours logged into this game, the job system is very engrossing and makes this game enjoyable to play, and gives it endless replay value. If you like mixing and matching different skills and abilities to turn some of the trickier hard-hitting bosses into an absolute joke, Final Fantasy V is the game for you. Pick it up while you still can, before the Pixel Remastered version hits later this year!

Final Fantasy V is 2D Active Time Battle game. Similar to the traditional turn based games, however, it adds timing for each command. An ATB gauge tracks when party members are going to act. When the gauge is full, members perform an action. After the action is executed, the ATB gauge is depleted and must recharge. Personally, I would have preferred the traditional turn-based system, however, the game is still very enjoyable for its story and a fun semi-turn-based feature.

Also, I managed to run Final Fantasy V on a 4K display at 120fps, which is truly great.

This game has been abandoned by Square Enix who has chosen to not release a single patch to fix it's numerous issues.

If you really want to play Final Fantasy V you should wait for the Pixel Remaster of play one of the many console releases.

I believe that this is still a good way to play FFV, but at this point in time i can only recommend it to game collectors.

The rumour is that the upcoming Pixel Remasters won't contain the added GBA content which is present here - the extra Jobs & Endgame dungeon etc. Given this is being removed from steam - i'd recommend picking this up if you're at all interested. (This version leaving steam on July 27th 2021)

This version of the game uses a fairly lackluster and unimpressive artstyle for the most part, but I must commend the battle sprites - they are really quite good, much more detailed than the originals (look up Bahamut for example). Plus this version is feature complete and has a decent translation - if some modders were to give this version of FFV a visual overhaul I could see it becoming the definitive fan version personally.

Port & Version details aside, FFV is a fantastic game - probably my personal favourite of the early series entries due to the likeable characters, a more fun take on the 4 crystals story, a great old-school antagonist (imo) and finally the considerable depth available in its gameplay systems thanks to the expansive Job system.

Final Fantasy V is probably my favorite Final Fantasy, But it doesn't need to be for this version to be a huge disappointment.

The art direction is one thing, it's not everyone's cup of tea and it definitely isn't mine. The fact that it's an extremely lazily done port of the mobile phone version of this game means that on your monitor the menus are ugly looking too. But I could easily look past it if the game's visuals were *competently* done. Unfortunately, this game looks terrible in motion. Even the floor tiles don't fit together properly, and when the screen scrolls it's extremely noticeable. After about 20-30 minutes of playing this, I was getting a splitting headache because of the way this game looks when you move on the overworld, and I had to refund it.

Please play any version of Final Fantasy V except this one. Hell, this version probably even looks passable on your phone.

No offense but this version is absolute shit. I LOVED the original and got excited for this. I can over look the fact that the art for the characters look NOTHING like their models, meaning color and outfit and so on do not match AT ALL, or the fact they look like cardboard blobs, but it's a critical failure in my opinion.

The massive failure in this is the game play. For some reason they decided to have an AI of some sort automatically place the cursor to what the devs thought would be the best action in certain situations. This actually lead me to lose an ally on several occasions. I thought maybe the cursor memory setting was an issue, which if it is on it can make it ten times worse, but it's something they threw in with no way of turning off. You can't just grind and speed run it smashing A to attack relentlessly anymore. Sometimes you'll randomly defend, change row, use a skill you don't want or even really NEED to. It forces you to pay extra attention when you don't really need to or have time to if you're just doing a quick grind for GIL or XP. Also every battle no matter how many enemies you face so far give 1 AP which I don't remember having an issue of. In the original by the time I got to the ship graveyard I had thief maxed and was working on black mage. This time I was at level 2 for thief knight white mage and still 1 on monk.

Very weird and poorly put together. It's not a remaster, its a disgrace to the original.

Great game, terrible port.

Ported from iOS/Android and it shows. I can look past the weird changes in the art assets, but the absolute bare bones (or lack thereof) support for keyboard and controller ruined the experience for me. Couldn't get half of the controls to even work on keyboard or controller, and the setup utility crashed every time I tried to change the bindings. I wanted to enjoy this classic, but the Steam version is just unplayable for me.

Great game. Lots of job classes to learn and master. Interesting plot and characters. It's a fun game overall.

The biggest gripe I have is how bug ridden this game is. For example, to open the game successfully you cannot have your controller plugged in. You have to wait until after the main screen to plug in your controller, which isn't a huge deal, but is different from other games. Also some controls don't work. Later in the game there is an aspect where you need to fly the airship higher, but you can't do that with your game controller, you have to use your keyboard.

“Final Fantasy V” is one of the franchises more-overlooked entries, with most western players not having experienced it until re-releases on other consoles. Now more accessible than ever after its GBA and Steam release, many fans will get to finally play the game for the first time. While the game’s innovations are relatively few compared to other entries, it does differ in several significant ways.

The main innovation comes with its job system. Bringing this mechanic back from “Final Fantasy III,” it has been upgraded and expanded to not only include a slew of new jobs, but new abilities with said jobs. Every job has a primary skill, along with at least one extra, equippable passive skill that jobs can gain through ABP leveling. These passive skills can be equipped to any other job, so your Bard can cast magic like a Black Mage, or your Geomancer can control enemies and fight with them like the Beastmaster. Passives may have uses either in battle or on the overworld map, like finding hidden passageways to treasures or avoiding pitfall traps.

Jobs also level up at different rates; some have several levels, others have only a few. While it would have been nice to have certain characters level up certain jobs more quickly, I can understand why it wasn’t necessarily thought of here. Fully leveling a job “masters” it, and your freelancer job gains the highest stat increases from all your mastered jobs for that character. This means in the endgame, where you started from becomes your strongest asset. Complete with two passive skills that can be equipped, the freelancer allows for some incredible customization in your party. Job leveling essentially replaces EXP leveling in terms of benefits.

The issue with this is that level grinding for jobs is tediously long. There are some ways to expedite the process, mostly through abusing Level 5 Death magic, and the auto-battle mechanic can similarly speed it up. Unfortunately, this can mean spending a lot of time in a single room and mindlessly grinding ABP. Most enemies barely give you any ABP until the final dungeon of the game, so a sizable portion of your grinding will come in the final push. Plus, many of the passives are simply not worth the effort to grind. Staring at the 999 ABP to finish the Red Mage’s last level made me groan, as did the Mime. Certain job skills and passives are also flat-out better than others. Blue Magic can get ridiculous, with enemy level manipulation and the 0 MP-cost Goblin Punch making some strong foes a joke. On my playthrough, there were several jobs that I fully mastered but never actively used, if at all. While it could be argued that the job system complements all sorts of play styles, some of the exploration seemed less a reward and more a chore.

The battle system itself continues the ATB started in “Final Fantasy IV,” but with a couple of small changes. Most notable is the absence of a casting time; when you used magic in the previous game, there was a required wait before the spell went off, leading to an inherent riskiness with spellcasting. This riskiness does not exist with “Final Fantasy V.” Your strongest spells and summons will go off as soon as you target, assuming it’s your character’s turn. Whether this is a good change or not is a matter of taste. I don’t mind it so much, but it should be pointed out.

The story steps away from the serious tone of “Final Fantasy IV,” much to its detriment. Trying far harder to be comedic and light-hearted, it tries far too hard to do so. That’s not to say that it can’t have comedic moments; most RPGs have times like that. But too much of the story gets dominated by comedy that I didn’t find funny. I grew to hate not only it, but also the often-accompanied “What!?” piece on the soundtrack. Especially given some of the game’s emphasis on darker imagery, like Exdeath’s castle made of flesh, a tonal dissonance exists that makes for an unpleasant time. Comedy aside, the characters do not grow or mature in distinguishable fashion, making their own personal journeys uninspired. The Faris twist and Galuf in the Guardian Tree landed with a thud, even keeping in mind that this story is about 30 years old.

The presentation is a mixed bag. While the bridge track, overworld theme, and especially the chocobo themes are great, most of the soundtrack is merely passable. Both main battle themes failed to leave an impression. On the other hand, the enemy designs are fantastic! I particularly liked the one where the head’s tongue is ripping off its own face and some of the mechanical enemies. Reskins are kept to a minimum, which contributes to the variety. The creativity also factors into the boss fights, which present some interesting challenges and preparation. Unlike with “Final Fantasy III,” none of the bosses felt as though a particular job was required for the fight.

The game’s difficulty comes less from getting game overs and more your personal aesthetic tolerance. The Steam version continues to draw frustration for its presentation, but a character portrait mod exists to partially rectify this. If a comedic story is your cup of tea, then perhaps you’ll like the game more than I did. It is not an incompetently-made game, but “Final Fantasy V’s” job system and overall presentation is not enough to compel me to play it a second time, even if as a supposedly-better port. If you want to experience it for yourself, I suggest waiting until it’s on sale.

FFV is the best Final Fantasy of the older titles in my honest opinion, the story if you pay attention to it is very gripping, the characters are lovable in so many ways, the game is an emotional one, Bartz is full blown awesome! Take your time with this one it deserves every minute and hour you can pour into it.

Final Fantasy V is kind of the redheaded stepchild of the classic Final Fantasy games, especially since it didn't originally see a Western release. The plot is standard fare: crystals and magic and castles and chosen warriors. Its job system, however, is relatively complex, and there's room to make your party members ridiculous ultra-customized powerhouses if you don't mind a bit of a grind.

This version has pluses and minuses. The pixel art is the remastered version, and I would have liked the option to use the original SNES sprites. On the other hand, it also has some balance tweaks, a handful of extra Jobs to master, and a bevy of postgame superbosses that I have yet to tackle.

Definitely a one of the better classic JRPGs. I totally recommend it, but as of 2021 it's $16 for a 29 year old game. Nab it if you can catch it on sale.

Despite liking the JRPG genre I never played any game from the Final Fantasy series, which is usually known as the one responsible for popularizing them in the west. I still liked learning about the lore and such and as I started looking up suggestions about where to start, Final Fantasy V was not a game that people would recommend for the first time: not because it was bad but rather due to not being as easy-going as other entries. Despite that, I ended up buying it when the money was right, played it through and fully completed it, and I can say the following: this game is great. It’s hard to review the game and not repeat points many have already made so I’ll instead focus more on some personal impressions I got from it.

Considering one of the things I came to know about Final Fantasy as years went on was how convoluted the plots could get, specially in later entries, I was pleased to begin with a story that was more laid-back and comedic: it helped keep my interest through it all. Along with that, I found the characters to be very likeable: the main cast is charming and entertaining, making me care for their journey, and do I even need to get into the legend that is Gilgamesh?

Now, considering the story wasn’t as much of a big deal as in other installments, one might expect the gameplay to cover up for it and it sure does: the game uses the Active Time Battle (ATB for short) system, which I don’t really like as much as the traditional turn based one, but it’s something I managed to adapt to rather quickly once I got into it and experienced combat a few times. I may still like turns more but this alternative is fine enough. Along with that, the meaty pool of jobs from which the characters can choose from ensured experimentation and variety ruled supreme through the whole thing. It got me to experience everything it had, something I wouldn’t normally do in other games once I knew one character’s build and/or stats made them better for some roles over others and thus I optimized them to work as efficiently as possible: however, with how much you can customize your party, everyone was a jack of all trades, and if you put the effort in, everyone could become a master of all trades, which felt great.

I might as well address something while I talk about the combat: when I mentioned the game not being as easy-going as others, it was mostly because of the combat. Final Fantasy V can be hard at times and cheap at points: it can require some trial and error to overcome certain fights, but it’s more about figuring out how to work around what the enemies throw at you with strategy rather than just grinding to level up (not to mention that, while both are important, I believe the level of your jobs is more important than the characters’ levels). If that’s something you’re not down with, as many have said, this shouldn’t be your first Final Fantasy game.

Presentation can be a mixed bag depending on what I tackle. The music was great and left me with some standout tracks, 2 of my favourites being Mambo de Chocobo! and Battle on the Big Bridge: I may not know about the soundtrack from other games to compare, for example, the main battle theme, but it doesn’t matter as the game still delivered in spades. Now, for the visuals: yes, this is a port of the mobile phone version of the game and that may already be a sour spot to many. Yes, it could be better or offer filter options for those interested but it could also be worse: despite that, there are a few things I wish were improved, how the User Interface (UI for short) is positioned, organized and how much space it takes (I’d rather see it at the bottom than the right side) and more consistency between how the main characters’ dialogue portraits and their sprites look being the two big ones as those are things you’ll be seeing frequently.

Now, regarding completion, the game can be tricky at first sight: it may have close to 100 achievements but it’s not all that bad, with most of them being either for story progression that you’ll automatically receive the more you advance, and others awarded from obvious albeit a tad tedious goals such as fully levelling up all your characters and all their jobs. Despite this, if you intend to 100% this game (and in a single file), you’re going to need a guide and follow it carefully to not mess up by accident and screw yourself over: missing an enemy or a chest is something that can easily happen and will cost a complete bestiary or being able to open all the treasure chests if one doesn’t pay attention. The game will specifically demand all the chests and enemies for a couple of achievements so be careful with that.

With all of that said, this is my conclusion: I enjoyed Final Fantasy V a lot and I don’t regret this being my first game in the franchise. It may not be the easiest to play or to sell others on yet remains a wonderful time. Just know beforehand you may be challenged during the playthrough and to apply strategy when needed so everything works out in your favour. Lastly, I would suggest that you pick it up while it's on offer: the game may be a blast but close to 15€ is a bit much when considering what's on offer, so I'd consider it a safe purchase if it goes on sale for around 10€ or lower.

if you can get over the blurry sprites and hideous UI this is a really really enjoyable game with a great character customization system, probably my favourite FF so far gameplay-wise. loved it from start to finish. the story isn't as serious or prominent as other games but it's very lighthearted and silly and funny and it feels like playing a cartoon which was kind of a relaxing departure from the other games' cutscene-heavy serious stories for a single game :) highly recommend

Having played nearly every entry in the series, FFV swiftly managed to become on of my all time favourites. The class system keeps you thinking, the music is an absolute pleasure, the story is surprisingly full of depth and consistency for this time in FF history. Really can't recommend this game enough, it is in my top 3 FF games, and it has aged incredibly well, against the odds. Anyone who likes strategy, good music, and a charming but deep story should love Final Fantasy V.

It's a fun final fantasy, the systems are a lot more interesting than previous iterations and although the story is still pretty boring, it's not as boring as in FF3 (but not as cinematic as in 4).

All in all, it's a solid chill game to play after work for an hour or two.

forgot how difficult this game can be, which is not the bad thing about it. I love this game and if I still had a working controller for my ps2 I would've never bought this port. This port is terrible and its been years and they haven't fixed anything. There's still no cloud saving, controller still don't work officially and even with the fix you can do it still barely works, keybinds seem to reset themselves randomly, and my quicksaves just disappeared sometimes.

If you can avoid this port, do it. If that's not an option i guess get this on sale.

Well this game has been out for half a decade, it's clear squarenix will not be fixing any of the issues.
First this game does NOT support cloud saves, it only saves the config file and not your save data. SE has made it pretty clear that at this point they will not fix the issue.
Secondly it is riddled with crashes and bugs, being totally unplayable on some of my systems.
Finally, it's just a lazy and extremely ugly port.
I would not recommend buying this, just play the GBA version. SE doesn't deserve your money.

Really liked the story and I have to note that this game definately has a lot of humour!! I laughed way to hard at many scenes! I really loved the interactions between the party members and even though the story has a serious nature the comedy element didnt feel like it was out of place! Also the job system was pretty flexible and it allowed you to work around many things. For sure an enjoyable experience and im looking forward to play the next one! See you there!!! This one gets a 4/5 - Memorable and enjoyable!

I love this game a lot and has become one of my favorite final fantasy games. The battle system in this game is probably my favorite out of every rpg I have played thus far. The variety of Jobs you can choose from allow so many different team combinations to be possible and it also help that every character has around the same stats with them leaning slightly in one direction or another.

Just because I gave FF15 thumbs down does not mean that I consider FF5 a superior game. You just can’t put a retro game from 1992 and AAA game from 2016 on the same set of scales.

That being said, any Final Fantasy game or JRPG in general is expected to provide 3 things aside from sophisticated combat system: a good story, memorable characters (with character development) and interesting sidequests. While FF5’s presentation and concepts are certainly dated by today’s standards, it still checks all those boxes. My only complaint is that every party member aside from MC is royalty, but such cliché gets a pass in JRPG from 1992.

I am not recommending this game for casual players since it lacks quality of life from more modern FF games and has a bit of difficulty spike. But if you are a retro gamer or a seasoned veteran looking for a little bit of challenge, by all means, give this game a try.

The traditional ATB that was so good it created a spin off by itself in Bravely Default.

This is probably my favorite Final Fantasy, the combat is fun, I like mixing and matching job and job abilities, the story is nice where the villain isn't just trying to own the world but is actually trying to erase the very idea of existence by having the void consume it all. Optimistic cast instead of crying emo boy, with Bartz being optimistic with a good supporting cast.

It's older now, but I'd still recommend it for a good idea of what defined a good class system with active time battles instead of turn based.

its such a fun and underrated game, it looks even better on the steam version, but there are some slight issues i will express, the commands seem a bit annoying at times compared to the gba version, and unfortunately, unlike the gba version or original, its almost impossible to run into omega on accident. and if you do, you even have to hit a button to initiate combat, just a personal pet peeve of mine. other than that, great game. very grindy and difficult especially for first timers.

One of my favorite Final Fantasy games (8/10) The only reason i wouldn't recommend this to someone is if they hate RPG's or something.
The class system is amazing in this game, and the story while a little slow to start is very good. Could have used a better main character default name but all in all one of the best RPG's in my collection. I wish Square - Enix could still operate at this level.

While I LOVE the Final Fantasy series (and have purchased them on multiple platforms), I can't warn against this game enough. I may show as 4 hours of play time, but I think that's 1 hour of actual play and at least 3 hours of the launcher being up while I try and fix issues (Resolution, OpenGL, Controller issues).

This is a terrible port. Please do not waste your money as I have.

------------------ UPDATE ---------------------------------

After spending more time troubleshooting I've finally been able to get the game to run... mostly.

1.) Fullscreen continues to give me grief, however playing in windowed works and allows me to more easily do something on a secondary screen

2.) If you're like me and you buttonmash during combat - DONT. There's a bug where it will move the cursor (no matter if you're set to Remember or Default) to someplace else if you're pressing a button before the menu is up. You'll find yourself defending or using items when you didn't mean to

3.) If you're moving AT ALL when you try and interact with something (a door, an NPC, exiting a ship, etc) you will get frustrated and think that the buttons aren't responding. Stop moving and then button press.

I still stand by this being an absolutely terrible port. However, once I've made it past the above issues, I'm enjoying the game itself. If you have the option to play the game ANYWHERE ELSE, do it.

Dear Squeenix: You should be ashamed. I'm a long time fan, having bought multiple copies of your FF and DQ games. And this is just... shameful.

TLDR:
I'd only ever recommend this port if it's on a steep discount and you have patience to spend time on technical issues and a terrible interface.

Probably the best character customization of all the Final Fantasy titles. Endless replayability. A classic which still plays as well as it did when it was first released. The extra endgame content and jobs add something for an old salt like me who has beaten this game plenty of times, starting from back when Bartz was Butz.

This game has a lot of flaws. It has big seemingly random spikes in difficulty. There are some dungeons that seem like they were designed specifically to make the player miserable.

That being said, the updated auto-quicksave feature really helps guard against the random wipes being too frustrating. And the boss battles are more exciting when there is so much variety in strategies for taking them down. (Not every boss is immune to all status effects like in most modern RPGs, which is really welcome in my opinion.)

Some of the Jobs are definitely much better than others, so it would've been nice to see some balancing tweaks there, but that would likely upset people who wanted it to be more like the original, so I get why it wasn't done.

The story is ridiculous, but the humorous dialogue makes it charming. This is definitely an oddball in the Final Fantasy series, but I dig it.

(100% achievement run has been done)

TL;DR

One of the best if not the best Final Fantasy gameplay-wise, but it is seriously lacking in terms of story and character depth. Not bad at all although FFV has no unique selling points other than the job system. The port sucks.

The most overlooked Final Fantasy

Final Fantasy V had a hard life. I is legendary for establishing the series, II was so bad in terms of game design that it is probably even worse than XIII, III and IV got 3D-Remakes that fixed a lot of mistakes and VI was released only one year later and has become one of the most beloved titles within the series. And we don‘t need to talk about the later entries, don’t we?

Yet still V has a beloved fan base that rarely claims it‘s the best Final Fantasy, but still being widely beloved.
So lets take a look why Final Fantasy V survived and how it managed to captivate players to this day.

Gameplay

Rarely I start talking about gameplay as the first bullet point, but FFV is by far the most refined one in the whole mainline series. To make it short: There are a lot of jobs with up to 6 unique abilities you get from leveling the job. Every job has one slot for their own unique skill and one additional slot for every already learned skill from another job. In short: There are almost infinite possibilities for combinations and trying new stuff out. And then there is the Freelancer job. It is your first job and has no skill on it’s own, but has two slots and keeps the highest stats you got from other jobs and their passive abilities as soon as you reached the highest job level. Now we reached infinite possibilities.
Nowadays FFV is one of the most replayable FF games as there as many approaches to fights as there are job combinations. Not all of them are equal, but most of them can work.
https://www.reddit.com/r/ff5fjf/
This subreddit is dedicated to speedrun the game in an annual charity event and it shows the pure dedication of the community towards this game.

Story

The story is mostly pretty forgettable. There is an evil existence and you want to save the world. While there are some twists, don’t expect anything special except some of the best laughs within the whole series. Gilgamesh gets introduced in this game though and he is my favorite character in all of Final Fantasy. So that is a plus, but also he is the only one with character development.

Music

There are some bangers but the OST is mostly pretty forgettable. But we all know which soundtrack deserves all the praise:
https://youtu.be/dghlAQDQneU
Clash on the Big Bridge is the on track that carries everything and is one of the best tracks in all of gaming. Despite that: Good, but not making an impression.

Visuals

I kinda like them, they are a lot better than FVI and the different costumes for every job are designed with an attention to detail. I enjoyed them, but this seems to be the unpopular opinion.
The enemy sprites hold up pretty well and have only been changed a little. All in all it is alright. Nothing spectacular yet still doing it’s job.

Let’s talk about the port

FFV is another game that has been ported from mobile to PC. And the port is at parts atrocious.
You want to go for 100%? You can scroll through your bestiary 2 entries at a time. The job abilities are not organized by jobs which means even more scrolling. There is no option to have default equipment for a job and changing your tactic for grinding or beating a boss can take up to 2 minutes because of even more scrolling for the right weapon. The grind for EXP can be very annoying and leveling every job becomes tedious pretty fast. In short: the port sucks. The GBA version is not much better, but there should be an improvement from a an almost 10 year old version of a game. I hate the UI with the essence of my being.

Conclusion

A pretty good game in terms of being entertaining and fun to play. Lacks in other departments and has some frustrating parts Square Enix seemingly did not want to fix. The port is one of the worst ones and is only surpassed by FFXIII-2 in terms of incompetence from Square Enix (and maybe Nier: Automata).

Hello friends,

Today i will write about the game final fantasy 5. This game has some improvements since the last version i have played this game. The version i last played is the ps1 version. The steam version includes better translations of enemies and characters, a new bonus dungeon, and 3 new job classes. It also includes new portrait illustrations of the characters, which some people like or hate, depending on their opinion about it. The job system found in this game makes it very versatile which skills and classes you pick to specific characters. It is quite good for example of making custom builds on characters with different skills from mastered classes. The downside is that you need to grind a long time to max out job classes to learn some of the best skills in the game. Anyways, here is my pro/con list:

PROS:

- Versatile job system to choose what skills and jobs you wish to learn
- 3 new classes compared to ps1 version
- Better translation of characters and storyline
- A new bonus dungeon after beating last boss

CONS:

- Grinding alot for specific skills on jobs is required, especially if you want to max them out and get the achievements.
- When i first started playing the game, i ran into a issue with the screenshots and steam overlay. The fix i found was to rename opengl32.dll to opengl32.dll.old . You can find information on this fix here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/382890/discussions/0/4698886342116766568/

Recommendation if you played the original english version on ps1 or even the game boy advanced version. Better translation, bonus dungeon and 3 new jobs make this game
enjoyable.

The ABSOLUTE worst port of a game I've EVER had the misfortune of attempting to play. I say attempting because there are so many problems that I could barely even play it.
I love the original, this steaming pile of trash is literally unplayable without having to use ludicrous work arounds. The worst part is this P.O.S is $15 bucks. It's just disgusting.

First thing's first - do yourself a favor and use a guide, whether it's one that someone wrote or someone who's shadowing you while playing. While the job system is the best part of the game, it has a few pitfalls in how the game is designed around it, and if you don't know what you're doing it's really easy to build yourself into a corner. Another thing I recommend is to turn down the battle speed by at least a notch. There were also a few irritations that I ran into that a viewer had confirmed was there because of the PC port. The story has an overwhelmingly positive feel, even though it was a bit weak in comparison to most other FFs, and is (probably deliberately) left a bit open ended. If you enjoy the party-building aspect of RPGs, this is definitely one for you.

FFV is one of my favorite jrpgs. I don't mind the sprites and I don't mind the translation. In the end though I can't recommend this port, because it's buggy. When contacting SquareEnix support they just say they don't support this game. So if they don't support the game than I say players shouldn't either.
