Features:
 • Über 60 handgemalte, detailreiche Umgebungen, inspiriert von transsilvanischer Architektur und Natur;
 • Fließende traditionelle 2D-Animation mit einem Disney-ähnlichen Stil;
 • Zwei Protagonisten und eine sprechende Kat... Okay, drei. Drei Protagonisten;
 • Mehr als 70 vollständig synchronisierte, verrückte Charaktere;
 • Besonderer Gastauftritt von Doug Cockle, Stimme von The Witcher;
 • Enthält den authentischsten transsilvanischen Akzent in Spielen und generell Medien aller Zeiten;
 • Über 4 Stunden langer Original-Soundtrack mit Live-Instrumenten;
 • Eine lange cineastische Geschichte, die sich über Kontinente und mehr erstreckt;
 • Humorvolle Momente, düstere Rahmenhandlung;
 • Dynamische Beleuchtung, Echtzeitreflexionen und Wettersystem;
 • Integriertes Hinweissystem, das hilft, wenn man nicht weiterkommt;
 • Vollständig animierte Cartoon-Zwischensequenzen, die wichtige Handlungsstränge unterstreichen;
 • Über 12.000 eingesprochene Dialogzeilen;
 • Individuelle synchronisierte Antworten auf all die verrückten Kombinationen, die man sich nur vorstellen kann;
 • Liebevoll entwickelt in der Nähe des Geburtsortes von Vlad dem Pfähler;
 • Keine Verniedlichung oder Verspottung der Alten, sondern eine Lobpreisung ihrer dunklen Namen;

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/stuckinattic/near-mage?ref=section-homepage-view-more-recommendations-p1

Fazit:
Ein quietschbuntes Comic-Adventure-Vergnügen, was in keiner gut sortierten Adventure-Sammlung fehlen sollte.

Was kann da schon schief gehen?

Über zynische Katze, Schuhlose Detektive und einem Bibliothekar

Gibbous- A Cthulhu Adventure ist ein ganz klassisches Point and Click, das sich in der von H. P. Lovecraft erschafften Welt ansiedelt. Es erschien 2019.

Pro und Con (Details danach)
Pro:
- Story ist ganz gut
-schöne Hintergründe
-Rätsel sind ok
-Synchro ist ok
-gute Übersetzung

Con:
-uninteresannte Hauptcharaktere

Gibbous has been sitting in my unplayed inventory for over a year. I recently needed a break from stealth and survival, so I decided to give it a whirl. It was just what the doctor ordered and brought back memories from the golden years of adventuring.

In the tradition of such classics as Monkey Island and Broken Sword, Gibbous is an animated point-and-click game with diverse characters, great voice-overs, silly inventory, and very clever dialog. While not a horror game, it uses elements from H.P. Lovecraft (which were familiar to me, having played Call of Cthuhlu).

The game is very dialog-heavy and I admit that I resorted to clicking through in ‘speed read’ mode. I also had to peek at a walkthrough a couple of times to figure out how to proceed. This, however, is part of the charm of this style of adventure (that is, inventory solutions that border on nonsensical). Where the game really shone for me was the dialog. There are cultural references, plays on words, rap lyrics, and self-deprecating comments about adventure gaming in general and Gibbous, in specific. I smiled often and laughed out loud on more than one occasion!

There is an automatic save but it is advisable to use the manual save in each chapter so that you will have a place to back up to if needed for missed achievements. Completionists are likely to require a guide, as most achievements are missable and several involve specific repetitive actions.

Gibbous is very entertaining and I recommend it to those who enjoy the point-and-click genre and take joy in puzzling their way to a surprise ending.

I can't believe I'm writing this down, despite giving a thumbs up, but this was a really tedious experience. I would have watched this game as a short animated series, for the style was good and jokes abundant. I couldn't get into the characters though, and the puzzles weren't challenging or rewarding. Kitteh the cat carried the story all on her own, I say. Or whatever was left of it the closer to the end I got.
There's a mixed feeling about all this. I want to like Gibbous. But the storytelling made it so hard to.
I'll recommend the game for its unique catch and looks. It's like a weird bedtime horror story. You can speed through it all, but if you want to, like me, click and test everything, it'll drain you.

This was one of the funniest games I've played in a while, and it's refreshing to see a relatively new point-and-click game with pop culture references and, surprisingly, made by people from my own country. Wish the devs would make a sequel. I wanna see what happens after the [unexpected] end. :)

Art and voice acting are great, dialogue is pretty funny, story is alright. If you want to waste a few hours and have a little fun, buying this game (on sale) isn't the worst decision.

But if you're looking for a Lucas-Arts-like, funny point-n-click game with challenging puzzles an big worlds to explore (like I did), you'll end up disappointed. Game play is very straight-forward, most puzzles are very easy to solve (with maybe 2-3 exceptions, but those aren't too hard, either). There are no memorable side-characters. Main characters are well-written though. The game is split in chapters, each of them taking place in a pretty small area with about 7 different screens at most.

I have played for ten hours without using of a walkthrough. Taking to account that i left the game running while doing other stuff like cooking, I'd say one can finish the game in about 4-6 hours if familiar with the genre.

Oh, and you can't switch between characters manually, they just take turns as the story goes.

The game had a lot of potential. If devs would have combined the chapters to a bigger world and created bit more creative puzzles and characters, this could have been a great game.

As an H.P. Lovecraft Fan, and having read nearly everything from that author, I was quite interested in this game.

Unfortunately the game could not deliver on its promise of being a “Cthulhu Adventure”.
And unfortunately the game could not deliver other things as well.

The puzzles are not real puzzles as there is (again) only “bring item A to place B” and rarely any combinations required. Everything is so obvious.
There are not many items in the game and you come across them anyway.

In some places I expected a puzzle but it was not there. So many missed opportunities.
Each level has only one or two of these puzzles, which renders the game (again) as an easy/relaxed one.

However everything around is just lacking.
Many, many remarks and cross-reference to other games or pop-culture. This became tedious quickly. The main character lacks humour or it is too shallow for me. The detective character was much more interesting, although the gag about him running around in socks the whole time was wearing off quickly (why does he do it in rain?).
The best option for a unique character was overseen or failed miserably; the cat. It was just boring overall. The interaction between cat and other characters was shallow and lacked humour.

The story was so diffuse that it was not easy to follow and moreover, the later turns of the story made the reasoning behind that somewhat unbelievable.
Example:
The star cult was the main storyline with its crystal (from outer space?). Then once the crystal is “lost” the Fish cult was the main storyline. However later the Star cult is there again – as a supporting role to the real villain. But how is the Star cult still relevant when they have lost the crystal? And why don't they need the crystal anymore?
The Fish cult – even seeing large groups pursuing a ritual in the back – are just cast aside in the final scenes when the real villain takes over. Barely any connection.
Another example:
The room before the final scene had so many things the main character could talk about, but there is no interaction required AT ALL. No puzzle, nothing to decide, story-wise not really required as many things were hinted at before.
Another puzzle/story element that was just lame:
Tentacle monster from another dimension are trapped in prison cells (!), during a puzzle you release many of them and sprinkle one with liquid nitrogen and all go away. What? Why? There are more then one? Wouldn't just another monster attack instead all flee in panic? And why are they not back later? They are “monsters from another dimension”, i.e. evil, dangerous, not easy to handle and... *sigh*
The story ends in such a quick turn with so illogical results: Why are the other characters suddenly here and why are you and them all trapped? Why is the cat there again, it was trapped before?
This felt rushed and overall very disappointing.

Menu and miniscule item handling is OK and works flawlessly, the character can run fast which is OK for three-screen-“levels”.

Drawn graphics are nice and comic-like. Sounds and voices are great.

Graphics – 8/10
Animations – 8/10
Sound – 8/10
Voices – 10/10
Story – 1/10
Puzzles – 1/10

Result:
Interesting concept but failed to put it into practice.

This is a very charming old school point and click adventure game, and yes, like everyone says, it has the aesthetics and humor of early Lucasarts titles mixed with the existential dread of Lovecraft's writings. The game has a distinctive eastern European flavor not just because it's set in Transylvania, but the development studio itself is in Transylvania.

Mechanically, the puzzles are pretty simple and you should never be stuck for long. This helps keep the game moving at a good pace. Most players should beat this in 10 hours or less, which is the perfect length for this particular story; just long enough to play through once, but not so long you start to get tired of it.

There's not much more I can say without spoiling the story, so I'll leave it at that. This is a title worth full price, and a must buy on sale.

It's ok, I guess.

In contrast with all other adventure games, I quickly learned NOT to 'examine all'; the descriptions are boring and unfunny, and many of the hot-spots have no real function. Solutions to the puzzles are generally mundane and unsurprising, and the fact that you have a cat on hand is seldom used, mainly used to
fetch things that would be out of reach otherwise
. Oh, and the film-noir-like private investigator talk feels forced and fake.

But the animations are great and for some reason the story kept me interested throughout. Admittedly, at the end the story went bonkers and slightly unsatisfying, but that was to be expected, given the source material. The rapping scene (you'll know it when you see it) is totally out of place, but has terrific writing and performance.

In all, technically well-made, with well-signposted puzzles, quite easy for the most part, but could have done with better writing overall.

I was so excited about this game but it was really disappointing. It seems like a lot of effort was put into programming and art style however everything else was not very good. The puzzles were extremely easy. The theme wasn't engaging at all and was very hard to follow. I played this through just to finish it and the end left little to be desired. All the homages sprinkled throughout the game to other games of this style only serve to illustrate how much this falls short. This wasn't a game it was a chore. All the components were there but it just missed in so many ways.

Nice graphic adventure, good story with good puzzles (mostly easy ones but a couple that make you take a moment to think).
The only thing a I didn't like was the multi-inspect, I just want to inspect something once and be done with it.
The ending is a bit anticlimatic but it could be because it ends in a cliffhanger.
As all the graphic adventures of late, there are too much cameos, was fun the first time but it seems that you can't do a graphic adventure without doing a reference to something from Lucasart at some point (or through out the game)

Loving the artwork and animation, the design of the backgrounds. Works flawlessly at 4K res and looks incredible. The sound work is also top-notch, and I love the voice acting.

Gibbous reminds me of the old Monkey Island franchises with a little Discworld mixed it. I am ranking this one up there with those, along with the Bertram Fiddle duology (so far).

I am just speechless that only 3 people made this game. What a hidden gem.

Put on your gumshoes and take a walk around Darkham. With its tongue-in-cheek relation with the Cthulhu mythos, it's not nearly as dark as the subject matter would suggest, but it's still quirky enough and funny enough to hold my attention. The voice acting is really well done, and I love the characters, especially the snarky cat.

More!! More!!

Gibbous is a snarky, funny, beautifully drawn point-and-click style adventure game. If you enjoy that type of game then I can't recommend Gibbous enough. I am only about half-way through the game but so far the puzzles have been interesting if not overly taxing. The game is pretty good at giving you hints, if you pay attention. And click on everything. Multiple times. Game play is pretty standard for point-and-click, but the engine is well designed with little lag and reasonably good hit detection (except for stuff near the bottom of the screen when you have your inventory bar open).
The big selling point for this game though is definitely the story. It is well worth the price for that alone. I'm definitely looking forward to finishing this one, and looking forward to Stuck In Attic's next game, Near-Mage.
Again if you're into point-and-click adventure games, you should definitely pick this one up.

Obviously created by people who are madly in love with the vividly animated, beautifully drawn adventure games of the late 90s. Thanks to this fact Gibbous looks gorgeous and plays remarkably well.

The ending section may be a bit of a letdown, at least for me it was. Anyway, I guess the journey to your personal Cthulhu is more important than the actual destination, and the journey part of Gibbous delivers.

Recommended, will be looking forward to trying out the dev’s next title.

Pleasant art and outstanding animation (one of the best).

However bland characters, dialogues and story. Not pleasant at all to spend the time in this game for an adventurer. Nothing original, absence of it's own idea, or a core. As if AI took all hot topics and tags, and generated game's script based on it. Could not finish the game, just meh.

There's a lot of talking in Gibbous , but most of it feels like filler. Some of the dialogues go on and on and on, which is really a problem when you have nothing interesting to say. The script is the downfall of the game. It is not funny, the story is pointlessly convoluted and mixing it with horror just doesn't work. The uninspired voice cast just makes everything worse. Compare the voice acting with what you can find in the games from Wadjet Eye, another tiny game maker of point & click adventures, and you'll see what I mean. The one character I truly enjoyed was an NPC is Transylvania that spoke only in Romanian. This made me wonder if the game could have turned differently if the writer was a native English speaker.
When it comes to the puzzle parts, best I can say is that they exist and are not annoying. In the final chapter and in a certain castle, I was left with the impression that the developers ran out of time, money and/or ideas, because there are almost no puzzles. This leads to another issue, which is that at certain points the story just jumps illogically forward.
One redeeming part of the game is the background artwork, which is detailed, coherent, colorful and it just pops off. For the characters, the animations could be improved. At some points they are really lifeless, lacking good idle animations, or they are lacking animations for custom actions. I must say, the design of Buzz is one of the blandest I’ve ever seen. He looks very basic, like a character from some cheap flash game.
In spite of all this, I congratulate the developers for releasing their first game. Making games is not easy. Although I didn’t like it, I can see that a lot of work was put into it. Their next game, Near-Mage, looks very promising and I hope they’ll manage to fulfill their vision.

9/10 point and click adventure.
This is a humorous / comedic take on the cthulhu universe.
Artstyle, dialouges, music and especially the voice acting are all great.
Overall story is unique on the one side and just what you'd expect from a cthulhu game on the other.

There are just two reasons I deducted one point from the overall score.
First. The ending doesn't make much sense in a few ways, feels like a cliffhanger(or is) and just wasn't satisfying in my book. The second reason: The game could have used some more puzzles like the one with the books for example.

Still completely recommended. Especially if youre a lovecraft fan.

Honestly, the dialog makes me cringe. The characters try way too hard to be funny and just end up being annoying, all the time. The references were fun but lacked subtlety. In general the voice actors sounds a bit amateurish, too, which doesn't help the (imo) bad script.

An hour and a bit in, I just can't be bothered to continue, it's that bad imho. Its a shame cuz I'm a huge fan of the Monkey Island series.

I could ask for a refund but I won't seeing as it's just not my kind of humor. Pay close attention to the trailers before deciding if this game is for you.

Let me try and say this succinctly.
The game starts off meh, I was confused a lot due to the story not being quite as solid yet. Then it perks up from around chapter 3. It has a disappointing ending sequence and story resolution, in my opinion.
The humour crosses the line into cheesy a few times, but in the end I could mostly deal with it. But that was a thing.
I like the varied game mechanics, I do think they added to the normal Point and Click genre experience.
I'd give this a good 8/10. Scratched the itch for a good LucasArts PnC.

After finishing it %100 in ~12 hours, all I can say is this game is amazing.

The game is splendid. The art is amazing and the animation is really impressive: stunning and smooth, it's a beauty to behold. All in all, the art and animations are the peak of this game. Remarkable.

The characters are overall pretty great, the cat is super fun with her snarky attitude and the whole cast is interesting enough. The story has up and downs: mostly great, with some very nice moments where you're really drawn into the mistery - but at times - rarely - feels a little rushed and a bit tacky (the Transylvanian castle part). But most of the times it works, it's compelling and you want to keep playing to see what's behind the corner.

Voice acting is a mixed bag. Some very good, other not that great and at times there are some volume discrepancies, but overall it's a decent job.

The puzzles. Well, the game is very easy. The puzzles are all logical to the point that it's really hard to end stuck somewhere in this game. I personally don't mind a low challenge in P&C games, but if you do, know that's it's really easy and not a challenge at all.

Overall: amazing game from a small studio. It's worth every penny even though it's not a discount period. Also it's incredible what they achieved with so few people and at their first gaming development experience. Wow what an amazing performance! This is how you should do P&C games. Can't wait to see their next projects.

A must buy for all P&C adventure fans.

Gibbous is a decent modern graphic adventure that mostly gets by on being unremittingly pleasant and very easy on the eyes and ears.
The story mostly follows the adventures of a private detective, a milquetoast millenial, and his talking cat as they unravel the mystery behind the Necronomicon, multiple cults chasing after it, fish-people, and some sort of prophecy.
The gameplay is standard fared for this sort of thing - you wander from location to location (rendered as 2d-backdrops which sometimes are larger than a single screen) which have loads of things to interact with, which offer three standard actions each (look at, use, or use special ability). You can also use any object you've picked up with any hotspot or other object in your inventory. You know, standard modern point 'n click stuff, but with all mod cons - double clicking to run or use an exit instantly, skipping dialog with a click, and showing all the hot spots by pressing the space bar. No pixel hunting here, thank goodness.
Despite being billed as a Lovecraftian adventure, the tone is more similar to a humorous globe-trotting adventure tale with heavy occult undertones; It just happens to incorporate some elements from the mythos. Which is fine! The mystery is interesting while it lasts, and once the secrets are revealed, the plot that emerges is actually surprisingly good. The writing is also solid throughout, though it's unfortunately much less funny than it thinks it is... humor being highly subjective, though, it may work for you. Just be prepared for references. Lots and lots of references and homages. And an extended nerd rap sequence. On the other hand, every single item has multiple descriptions, and will often have individual responses for each item you use on it; much respect.
The characters, like the humor, may be a bit of a hurdle. You spend most of your time controlling librarian Buzz Kerwan, who is a lovely guy, but bland as can be with no memorable characteristics except being very millenial. Especially when compared to his much more fun sassy cat companion and hard-boiled detective counterpart, or any number of side characters. The Puzzles aren't anything to write home about either; They're fine, on the whole maybe a bit too easy, but with some good ones sprinkled in, and some nasty difficulty spikes (keep your decryption nonsense out of my graphic adventures, please!) They mostly make sense, even when they lean into cartoon logic, and anyhow it keeps the number of interactive objects down so trying everything with everything is not too much of a pain.
The graphic side of the adventure is a beaut, with gorgeous cartoony backdrops and lots of bespoke animations. And there are tons of characters and locations.
This is a very generous and eager to please game- upbeat, pleasant and, yes, fun. Maybe not great, but certainly good enough.

A point and click adventure that reminds me of the old Lucas Arts games of the 90's. The game is overall enjoyable as it will take 6-10 hours to beat depending on how fast you move through everything. The puzzles are not that hard, with 1 or 2 being hard. The humor, characters, and voice acting are great! The rap battle of course is epic!

I have attached some gameplay above just so you can get a sense of the game. I highly recommend if you want to re-live the older Lucas Arts game like Day of the Tentacle or Sam and Max (the one from the 90's)

Gibbous is a really fun game. It reminds me a lot of some of the classic Sierra & LucasArts point and click games of the 90s - a lot of humour, some puzzles that are barely logical, and more than a little breaking of the fourth wall. There's a few grammatical errors in the writing, and the voice acting is a little ropey in places, but I would definitely recommend the game.

It's a solid adventure point and click, and I have to give credit to the team that put this together on such a small budget for building an interesting world and making reasonable puzzles that make you think without feeling cheap.

But the script is so cringe and unfunny unfortunately. There were moments that made me chuckle, but as a comedy game I feel like you have to really have that element there because it's so central to the experience you're trying to create. Don R. Ketype was always fun, Pearl was just kind of there, Corwin was ok, Kitteh was...kind of...not really worth it as a character.

Overall, I wouldn't recommend this game, but I look forward to seeing how this studio improves with future efforts. They have a lot of potential.

Actually a legit Lovecraftian story. There's a lot of monkey island humor but also a lot of badass storytelling that makes me hunger for a sequel - which the ending highly suggests.

Gameplay wise, the puzzles are pretty much perfect for a point and click. Never needed a walkthrough, but still had to pause and think. Obviously it depends on whether you like that mechanic or not, but if you do I don't see any problems. Sorta Lucasarts style; no risk of death, plenty of nudges in the right direction.

Production's solid. Great soundtrack, animation, and voice acting. Background art is insanely good. If I was giving scores up til now that part would be the one 10/10. The presentation is at least as good as something like Curse of Monkey Island.

Beautfiul graphics, great voice acting, top notch humor. I loved this game. I laughed out loud multiple times. One of the musical bits was so good I had to play it twice. Genius!

The puzzles were a bit easy and the ending felt a bit rushed. But not more as the ending in Monkey Island 3.

Played this in two sittings, it was that good.
If you like a nice story, fun characters and a clean and beautiful comic style - buy this.

This got easily in my top 10 of all time adventure games. And I am a huge LucasArts fan from back in the day. You can feel how much love went into this game.

tl;dr It's okay

Gibbous has decent art, simple game play, and a compelling though run-of-the-mill story. At times it wants to be serious and occult and others it wants to be humorous, making homage to the games that came before it. I made it all the way through but it felt like a chore at times. All-in-all it'd be better to play through a Monkey Island for humor, Grim Fandango for story, art, and music, or any other Lucas Arts adventure to see the masters of the genre at work.

Beautifully made traditional point’n’click with a messy story set in a Lovecraftian universe.

It’s difficult to describe what is exactly going on in “Gibbous”, and maybe, it’s easier to ask – what is NOT going on there? The story starts with PI, Don R. Ketype, heading into the library to find mysterious Necronomicon. While he’s chatting up local librarian Buzz, the library explodes, Don is being taken away, and Buzz suddenly comes into possession of highly sought-after book. Not being sure what the hell just happened, young librarian comes back home, checks out the book and promptly turns his cat, Kitteh, into a speaking wonder. From there on, Buzz is sort of trying to turn Kitteh back to normal (as she is extremely unhappy with an ability to talk) and is sort of trying to find out what happened with Don; who’s, on his end, trying to escape whatever basement he’s being held in by whomever has put him there. Perplexed yet? Good, because things will only turn more confusing from this point on.

While the story starts relatively simple, it ramps up in complexity tenfold on all levels possible. There will be a mystery of who and why hired Don, a mystery of creepy Innsmouth cult EOD, a mystery of…another cult with conflicting interests, a mystery of Butcher and Hunter and Dreamer who are these powerful beings no one knows about, and it’s really hard to say who’s after whom and, most importantly, why? Then, there’s a mystery of someone EVEN MORE ominous behind all the events and his allies. As well as the mystery of what exactly does it all have to do with Buzz. Or Voodoo. Or Transylvania… Whew! There’s just so much! And while some adventures can create this gigantic mishmash of events expertly unfolding it as the player goes along, “Gibbous” teeters on the edge of “what the hell” starting around 30% mark. The flow of storytelling would have been a lot smoother if the game simply cut all the unnecessary craziness and concentrated on developing an eerie cult story set in the wonderful world of H.P. Lovecraft. As it stands, events get messy, and the narration doesn’t really help.

It’s built on the cheesiest comedy possibly, and even if you like corny jokes – there will be moments when not even the world’s greatest pun lover would be able to hold a flinch he wanted to resist so stoically. Humor is personal, however, so while some might call it trite, some might enjoy it – the call would be after the player. All this chaos of a story is being told in corny pun-filled expressions of P.I., half lost “I’m not sure about anything” librarian Buzz (who is capable of long string of sentences that tell next to nothing) and entitled snark of Kitteh that has disdain for anything that isn’t … no, just for anything. It’s not a terrible combination as far as adventures go, it even works on occasion, but all this muddled storytelling desperately needs tidying up to have a coherent base. There’s definitely potential here, but the execution is all over the place.

The puzzles represent a classic point’n’click standard – inventory manipulations, fetch quests, and a few word/button puzzles to boot. Early in the game Don R. Ketype gains an ability that will allow him to use a special power while he’s dealing with his problems, and Buzz has Kitteh that has proven to be useful several times throughout the game. Changing POVs work well without disturbing the overall current of the game and provide for a variety of outlooks on the same items if both heroes visited the same location on separate occasions. The difficulty level, however, is “Easy” for a seasoned adventure player. Newcomers to the genre might get stumped here and there, but for everyone who played more than 5 adventure games – this will be a breeze. The puzzle element merely supports the overall story, and with a notebook that sometimes openly spells out the solution, brainteaser “Gibbous” is not. In some bizarre way, however, the convoluted story of the game combined with this easier puzzle element actually organically complete each other. With one being over-the-top, and the other hovering on the light side, it comes together just right. Weird.

What “Gibbous” succeeds on with the highest marks, though, is visuals and animations. It might be the biggest selling point of the game, and rightfully so. Wonderfully colored backgrounds combine darker tones with soft but prominent hues. Predominantly purples, reds and yellows make for “cozy” feel of every location, and even the ones that are supposed to be nightmarish come through as delightfully spooky instead. The animations are plentiful and well-done. Looking at the static screen you can notice shadows passing by, or a Blonde Lady fidgeting on the bench. Kitteh is pure motion, following every move of Buzz. Truly, the artistic side of “Gibbous” stands out prominently in the row of adventures released in the past few years. Memorable visuals immediately attract the eye and bring gameplay to a pause for an opportunity to explore newly entered screen.

The music element of the game is solidly middle-of-the-road. Smooth, somewhat unmemorable tracks always present and change with location. Sometimes they stand out – the soundtrack to Transylvania chapter had a layer of authenticity to it, sometimes they don’t match the picture on the screen in its chosen tempo, but largely – they are just there. Pleasant, supporting sounds that will not stick with you after the game, but will complement the journey nicely.

Voice-over is the whole other story. It is a mixed bag, to say the least. Absolute majority of it simply screams “budget indie”, and some voices just don’t cut it for the personality they portray. While one might argue whether a voice of one of the main heroes is “annoying”, or the quality of the recording is low – it’d be great for someone with an ear sensitive to such things watch a bit of gameplay that includes all main characters. Yes, it’s possible to hear the same voice actors behind several characters. Yes, when the VO hits the mark – it’s easy to notice a job well-done, because it stands out amongst the others. Yes, it is a budget voice-over, but as a silver lining – it is the kind of budget voice-over one might get used to as the time goes; embracing the characters might bring about embracing their voices. Not all games with voice-over troubles can say that, but this adventure surely can.

“Gibbous” can be compared to a candy bar everyone occasionally enjoys; even if they have their favorite desserts in much-loved places, even if their mom can win any bake-off challenge in the country, even if they know – candy bar isn’t particularly nutritious or tastes all that phenomenal. They are sweet, accessible, always remind of something, and hit the spot. Also, there is no such thing as “last candy bar”, there will always be another one – with a cup of coffee on the go.

This game is just like that when it comes to adventures. It’s beautiful and inviting, it has good premise and interesting setting. Sure, the story is unruly, puzzles might be on the easier side, and the sound component could use a quality level-up, but ultimately it delivers that sweet point’n’click punch, gives a warm feeling inside upon completion, and with all the potential shown – undoubtedly makes one look into further games from this developer. Sure, it’s not an end-all be-all to the genre, but Twix isn’t end-all be-all of candy making, and yet – who can say no to the famous snack?

Has a strong oldskool MonkeyIsland/LucasArts vibe. Puzzles are challenging.
Works in UltraWide. Looks gorgeous. Pretty funny and well voiced.

I did extensively use a walkthrough when I was stumped because I am a busy person, but made sure to enjoy the though put into it.

A lot of the story fits the Lovecraftian mythos (as it should!) and yeah, generally a good time!

???????????????????????????? - ???? ???????????????????????????? ????????????????????????????????????

+ Story is pretty good
+ funny medium level puzzles
+ nice characters
+ the art is very pretty
+ funny jokes and references

- sometimes the movement is a bit wonky (like walking from one side to the other)
- audio sometimes cuts off
- ending is a bit unsatisfying but okay all in all

An excellent adventure game with memorable characters, great voice acting, and a quirky story. The puzzles were relatively straightforward but, despite the fact that they were at the easier end of the scale, player engagement is maintained by a desire to keep finding out what happens next!

The only negative remarks I have about the game relate to its ending, where I find two small issues. First, the ending doesn't resolve the overarching mystery - in fact, raises many new questions are raised; this is not a problem in and of itself if the game is going to have a sequel, but I can find no information to give an indication about that one way or the other. Second, I feel like the ending was a little rushed and the final confrontation was a bit unsatisfying as I felt, as a player, more like a spectator than a participant in the action; I won't say any more for fear of spoiling the story, but I do feel like a bit more work could have gone into that final game location.

Overall, however? I fell in love with the characters, the game world, and the story. Would definitely recommend this game to fans of the adventure genre and it is my earnest hope that the studio makes a sequel.

Pretty good point and click, but I have two issues. 1 it ends on a cliffhanger which is bad game design especially for more story focused games like point and clicks, and the talking cat is not an interesting marketing thing as there's talking cats in plenty of TV, movies, books, and other video games

Wonderfully done, original quest done with good taste. Refernces to Lovecraft are to the point, good kind humour. Plot is not twisty, but it follows its own logic and that takes to. All in all, it was a pleasure to play it.

90s style adventure game that gets the nostalgia factor just right. Lots of details, things to click on, strange characters to interact with. The best scenes are in the towns filled with people and objects. The humor manages to be both varied and unexpected, without ever getting toxic. Nice details of Romanian culture and folklore too. It isn't too difficult, the answers are usually hidden in plain sight. Probably one of the most fun point and click games I've played in a while. Hopefully there will be a sequel.

Wow! If I took the negative reviews seriously and skipped this one I'd be one sad nerd. Fun point and click game set in an acclaimed but loosely followed Lovecraftian background. Unless you're a toddler, this is NOT a horror game. It's mainly a cute, humoured adventure with a few shoggoths, an epic rap battle and, of course, Bob Olmstein...

Fun and relaxed point'n click adventure set in a Lovecraftian world.

Liked it mostly for the story and characters. There's plenty of humor as well. While not the type that makes you laugh out loud, I was a real chuckle from start to finish.

Most of the puzzles were really easy to figure out. Maybe a bit too easy for some. Personally I quite liked it. The game is funny and lengthy enough as it is.

Graphics, sound and music are all very good although some details were a bit too dark to see and there's no option to adjust gamma. Using spacebar to show hotspots was necessary in some occasions.

What I had the most laughs with were the npc's and how much some of them would rattle on about certain subjects. There's a huge amount of spoken narrative, including a 15+ minutes long totally optional radio show of some guy with an hilarious Romanian accent.

This is one of the 2D point and click games with the highest production value that I have ever played. All the animations look so smooth and movements like picking something up, giving something, using something are really animated instead of just having the protagonist reaching out an arm as is so common. Heck, there's even an animation where one of the protagonists changes clothes and I couldn't help but be stunned. It often occurred to me that this should have been a Sunday morning cartoon. I would have loved this as a child. The backgrounds are wonderfully detailed and fantastically drawn. Unfortunately, in some locations you only stay for a short time, so the effort sometimes seems almost wasted. I'm looking in your direction epic castle. If you like Lovecraft's stories and humour, this is definitely a game for you. The only two shortcomings I noticed (besides the short visited areas) are the relatively short game length and the very simple puzzles. Whereby a shoutout to the Pentagram puzzle in Paris. That was fantastic. With most of the other puzzles, you usually just breeze through them. However, as I said, the art style, the atmosphere and the story are definitely worth it.

Been through a lot of Point and Click Adventure games, so I am starting to see deja-vu and repeating pattern in most of the recently published ones. But Gibbous here, although the game play sticks to the old school point and click (which is the best and most user friendly), they got themselves a great story with nice plots, and they really tell it in their own original way which makes this game pretty fresh and fun experience all the way from start till end.

It's been awhile since a game bring tears to my eyes. And this one really does bring both laughters and tears all the way through the journey in the game. Great job! Some might not like the ending but that may hint a sequel with more to come, so i am fine with it. Let's hope they continue to shine in their next game! Definitely looking forward to it!

Wowwwww.

I'm not going to be able to do the game justice with this review. That much is clear. Maybe I'll go for bullet points instead.
* REALLY BEAUTIFUL ART
I mean, I know the people behind this are artists themselves. BUT WOW.
* REALLY FUNNY
I definitely laughed out loud at a lot of the things that happen when you click or use the special third interaction on things.
* REALLY DETAILED
I can't believe how much work they put into things. I am a compulsive clicker, so that's what pushed my play time up - I didn't want to miss any humorous dialogue.
* GREAT SETTINGS
The story takes you to a few different places, each with a different feel to them - very cool.
* GREAT STORY
The story is not totally simple, but they still keep things fun and humorous. It's a skill.
* GREAT VOICE ACTING
Especially cool that the two main people behind it can be heard in the game. Such a labour of love.

I bought this game while still feeling fatigued, but put it down again until I had all my energy. It's one of those sorts of games you want to give your full attention to - and have the energy to take your time, clicking on things, solving the puzzles yourself (nothing too tricky here, incidentally - just right, I would say), and enjoying the experience without wanting to plough through.

I gather there will be a sequel. Looking forward to it!

Story rich point and click (mouse) adventure with lovable characters, hand-drawn scenery, and cool storyline.

- Puzzles are challenging but not too difficult.
- Great story with adorable characters.
- Artwork is interesting hand drawn cartoon.
- Linear story that provides at least 20 hours of play.
-Awesome voice acting for all interactions, and subtitles are easy to read.
- Spacebar shows all hotspots (optional to use if you don't like to search for them manually)

If you like casual gameplay, humor, cats, cthulhu, cartoons, point and click adventures, you will enjoy Gibbous.
The only downside is low replay-ability because of the linear story not being a choose your own adventure.
Hoping for a sequel (could call it Cat-thulhu)

Brilliant modern point and click adventure game, with tons of little nods to gaming history and horror-related pop-culture as well, but in doing so, also never belittles its dark and lovecraftian themes.
It features astonishing hand-drawn animations, moody music, very talented voice acting and whitty writing.
Although I'm not really a fan of the ending, which seemed quite non-sensical to me, the overall presentation of this game is amazing and should be played by everyone enjoying adventure games or the work of good old H.P.Lovecraft.

It's also... a little on the EASY side of the puzzle spectrum.

It's a short game (If you're a power player like me) and you can get addicted....so don't play on a school or work night.
It's purely point and click for everything...and you might want to play on a lower screen setting. Higher ones tend to crash the game on start.
Good story.
Tons of Puns and references.
Nice music.

But pick it up on sale....$20 is a bit too much.... but if they make enough, there's definitely room for a sequel.

Gibbous - A Cthulhu Adventure is a point and click game in the style of the classics - you point at things, you click on them, yadda yadda yadda. Actually, it's more like click on everything, combine everything, use it on everything.

I found the game enjoyable, but there were a few elements that lowered my enjoyment overall. The voice acting is a little off. This is understandable - Gibbous was made by a tiny indie development team and voice acting is often the most difficult part of the audio to get right. The voice acting does pick up in later acts and there are standout performances, like Peace, Barnabas, and some minor characters. The main characters, however, overreact to their lines, especially the cat. I'm convinced that simply slowing down the audio track by 10% would increase the quality of the voice acting.

The story itself is fairly good, it's interesting and doesn't delve too far into the deep end, though the ending could have been a tad bit more coherent with some more expository clues in the build-up to the finale.

The puzzle design is standard for a game of this type.
The latin book puzzle for example,
is a well-designed puzzle, but the clues are too vague to be easily solvable. Sometimes this lack of detail spoils what would otherwise be an interesting mechanic. Another example of this is the
archway puzzle at Point Nemo
. This puzzle has an interesting mechanic, but the overarching region mechanic slows you down automatically through no fault of your own, leading to a frustrating experience. Most of the puzzles however, make sense and flow well with the pacing and story of the game.

I would recommend this game to people who love P&C, and I hope that the developers learn from the minor mistakes that come with publishing a game like this. Overall, a good effort.

8/10.

Great example of a game that carries on the tradition of the Point-and-Click adventure and adds its own twist to it. It has fun in-jokes for people who are familiar with the classics, but doesn't let them overwhelm it. It also references the Cthulhu mythos well, but again not in a way that you have to know anything about it to play. It has a few fun musical moments, and lovable characters, among them a cute kitteh.

The difficulty of the puzzles is not too high, so this is also a good starter adventure.

I rather enjoyed my time with Gibbous. It scratched that nostalgic itch of old LucasArts point-and-click adventures, and really reminded me of playing games in my childhood. The voice acting was rather charming, and the script amusing. Kitteh's VA really stole the show for me, and I was always looking forward to her sarcastic responses. As a fan of Lovecraft's works, I thought Gibbous had fun weaving the lore with it's humor and colorful cast, and ended up with something truly unique. I'd love another adventure with our half Romanian librarian and his talking cat, and look forward to the possible sequel.

I liked the games click mechanics with three options (look, interact, cat). And I loved the games way of breaking the fourth wall, and the story in the beginning.

But as the story progresses it becomes more straight forward and the interact-options become pseudo. The conversations continue identical whether you chose talk option A or B.

Overall the game was a bit too easy, it peaks during the rap battle after which finishing the game felt more tiring than rewarding. Especially the last level (point Nemo) in which the player is forced to wait a lot and repeat patterns which are not fun to play.

I can recommend this game. You can expect typical point and click gameplay, a good story and nice hand-drawn graphics. There are strange characters to meet, funny dialogues to have, relatively simple but still good puzzles to solve and last but not least some nice old school references to other point and click adventure classics to find. They really hit the nail as a point and click adventure.

The native Linux version of the game also runs perfectly. Nothing to complain about in this regard.

I really wanted to like this game because of the premises (Lovecraftian themes, horror/mystery adventures and cats involved) but unfortunately it didn't live up to its expectations. It actually worsens the more you play. The dialogues seemed funny and well constructed at first but they quickly become dull, apart from the fact that nothing you say or reply really matters, which removes any soul or wits from the different characters. The puzzles are really easy to solve (maybe meant for children?) and you don't feel accomplished once they are over. Finally, the underlying story is not at all explained but rather conveniently covered with a blanket of mysteriousness. In particular the final chapters and grand finale appear rushed and sloppy. All in all, not recommended.

An Classic Point And Click inspired Adventure. That pays tribute the legends of old.

For a Veteran Point and Click player puzzle wise maybe a bit to easy. No like 80's/90's hard Moon logic Puzzles.
Or at-least It didn't occur to me. Perhaps to people who are new to the Genre.

Also all the Puzzles are very eeh whats the word compartmentalized if that is the proper phrase. No real world ish map to explore in your own time before progressing with the story at your own pace.
But this might also not be a big issue for those who play a game like this for the First time.

But uhm as a Veteran P & C player do you still really want to play a game like this with crazy Moon Logic Puzzles? I'll admit i'm kinda on both fences of this sentiment.
Do you still have the time?

Plus:
Does feel nostalgic somehow.
Some fun Witty Dialogue's
Great Art Style.

Min:
No Ultrawide since last I played. (Think it has been updated now? Unsure. )
Not as big a game I hoped it would be.
Can't really think of anything else with maybe the exception from other players that had issues with the Voice Acting of certain characters. But this didn't bother me personally.

Fun game which had allot of passion put into. and a Cat that is quite the Grouch what more do you want.
