Ballistisch Elektrisierend

Cyberpunk + Shooter = Viel Altmetall?

Gameplay
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2577629697

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2577631681

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2577633670

Was will man mehr?

Eehmm... WTF?! That's it?! That's the ending? I thought i was at the middle of the story!

5/10, 6/10 if not take the ending into account.

Sword is useless.
Most variations of weapons are useless. You need only grenade launcher, electric grenade launcher and rocket launcher.

You can't crouch.

Lots of stupid and unfair invisible walls will be in your way while pursuing secrets and collectables.

This game is plain boring, its an arena shooter where 90% of the enemies charge straight at you, I got through 3/4ths of the game using only 2 out of the 10 or so guns with no problem what so ever, the game is also super cheap with each cut scene basically being a piece of concept art that they slide across the screen while little dialogue boxes pop up. The main character is generic and goes along with anything the other characters tell him to do regardless of how stupid it sounds and overall its an easy, boring, generic mess. Pick it up on sale if you really wish but this game has been a dull slog to get through

An attempt to bring back the classic design of older shooters, before the DOOM reboot did it far more effectively. This game has pretty poor level and enemy design with a terrible story and ugly visuals. I would not recommend it. Play DOOM or Wolfenstein instead.

Game #185

Just a really good PC shooter

Hard Reset is another game I never would have played had I not attempted my steam challenge. In the world where most first-person shooters act pretty much the same, it’s great to see some more variation.I’m really glad I got to play Hard Reset and even though I haven’t gotten far in the game, I think I can wholeheartedly recommend it.

Major vs. The Machines

The year is 20 - something something and while Judgment Day still hasn’t happened, the machines have started to pose a huge threat to humanity. It’s basically a cyberpunk world where machines can attack people on a daily basis.
You play as a mercenary/cop who gets sent to investigate a machine attack at Sector 6 and the rest is well… the rest of the game.

Your best weapon is the environment

While the game will start as any old shooter, equipping you with a machine gun, you’ll immediately realize that guns aren’t super effective against robots.Oh sure, you can shoot them and take them out after a long time, but it’s not the ideal solution.
What you need is: electricity. How do you get electricity? By shooting everything around you. Yup, fuse boxes, vending machines, electric hydrants, generators, it’s all fair game.
While taking out a single robot can take you 20-30 bullets, a single shock from a fuse box can take out a whole horde of robots.
In my opinion, this is a fantastic way to keep things fresh. Whenever a horde is about to attack you, instead of aiming at them, you look around for a fuse to trigger.
Now combine that with the fact that robots hit pretty hard (even the tiny ones) and you’ll be kept on your toes as you hop around triggering things all over the place.

Secrets and upgrades

One thing that we don’t see very often in shooters is secrets. Sure, most shooters will have some sort of collectables but not secrets. Each level will have a ton of secrets that will usually award you with some in-game currency. It’s incredibly fun to go looking for them. They usually aren’t hidden too well, but if you played games like Quake https://store.steampowered.com/app/2310/QUAKE/ or Unreal https://store.steampowered.com/app/13250/Unreal_Gold/, you’ll be delighted by this mechanic. I know I was.
When you collect enough currency, you can visit one of the game’s upgrade stations and get some new toys to play with. You can get modifications for your main gun and turn it into a shotgun or an RPG. This makes destroying robots more effective but shocking them is still the ideal solution.
You can also upgrade your shock gun and make it fire different kinds of electricity. Armor and UI abilities can also be upgraded but it takes a while before you unlock something truly useful.

It’s fun

Not gonna lie, but I had more fun than I thought I would have. Hard Reset reminded me a lot of Bioshock https://store.steampowered.com/app/409710/BioShock_Remastered/ . On the surface it’s just another shooter but if you look a little deeper, you’ll see that Hard Reset has a lot more to offer than your average shooter.

Next game: Harvester

It was nice to return after few years to Hard Reset. Game only gained over the years, still solid and fun shooter similar to serious sam or painkiller. Still i like it even more because of nice atmosphere - old sci-fi, cyber, dark - so no pinky cyberpunk bullshit. Nice rusty interiors, fun system with only 2 weapons but multiple modes. Game really is worth getting, uits not long, but also not too short, those 7 hours are ideal for quick walkthrough. Still if you want a challenge the hard mode is taking much more time. Really would be fun to see second part. Story was interesting, but left untold later events - open for debate and second part. Advised to buy on a sale!

I was quite surprised with this one in the same way I was with Singularity when I first played it, it's a pretty underrated game and dare I say it I like this a bit more than Shadow Warrior 2013, Flying Wild Hog's later game.

It's a retro-style FPS game with a cool cyberpunk setting. What's cool about this game is you only have two weapons however you get TONS of upgrades in this game that add new alternate fire mode likes a rocket launcher, grenade launcher, shotgun, and some weird ones like the Arc Gun. Each attachment has alternate fire modes too so there's a lot of different combat options and it's fun to pull off combos, for example throw down a gravity bomb which sucks in all enemies near it, switch to the plasma gun and throw down an electric grenade which is an AOE and does damage over time. Then switch to the rocket launcher or grenade launcher and keep firing at the enemies stuck in the bomb to stack up the damage.

The story is not very good and half the time you'll forget why you're doing what you're doing but all the cyberpunky stuff is there and its cool. I especially love the environmental design of the city, it looks great. It's a pretty short game and ends on a cliffhanger, so I would recommend it on sale but pick up Hard Reset Redux which is pretty much the same game but better.

Hard reset is a boring shooter that feels gimmicky, and cannot lure me in. Gameplay so far has been

1. Identify environmental traps/damage items
2. lure the wave of enemies chasing you to said trap.
3 shoot/activate trap
4 go back to step 1.

Weapons (on hard) feel extremely weak (or the enemies are just huge bullet sponges). None of the weapons I have tried felt good or reliable and the in game UI is in my opinion terrible.

Awesome cyberpunk shooter where you play as dude who needs to save the surviving humanity from armies of killer robots probably created by humanity. Use variety of weapons and hazardous objects to shoot, explode, stun, electrocute and melt your enemies on short medium and long ranges, explore glumy city of future with flying cars, sad propaganda and giant scrapyards, find lots of secrets to make yourself stronger, upgrade your weapons and yourself to become ultimate killing machine.

I couldn't get into it. To me it was a pointless shooter. Good shooting is not rewarded.
Essentially it boils down to: lure enemies into map based explosive/shock objects or evade - shoot. You do that essentially forever. No puzzles, no exploring, no surprises. Linear go there shoot go there shoot that's it.
I don't even remember where I got this game from. But for me it's not worth the time.

I think this game looks great and the guns are cool with your whole kit coming from your guns altering themselves. However, the game play is just not that fun. The enemy spam is not too bad but some of the tougher enemies are too spongy, they take a ridiculous amount of bullets to kill. It's a well made game but not for me.

The game had potential.
It's to bad that the game is super repetitive and all you will be doing is shooting ultra bullet sponge enemies.
I have never seen enemies so spongey before.
You will be shooting some for minutes in very tight spaces.
The AI is simplistic as all hell, all they do is ram into you over and over and try to pin you against some thing.
You unforunitly are not so spongy and die fairly fast
Your shield even upgraded recharges at a snails pace
The story is dull
The Characters are dull
It feels like you are just fighting the same 3 enemy type over and over again... because you pretty much are.
It does have some cool ideas with enviromental stuff you can use to help kill enemies
The graphics even for a 8 year old game still look pretty good
The Cyber Punk atmosphere is really nice
You can upgrade all kinds of stuff to your guns which you unfortunitly only get two of.

Over all the game just doesnt work

Great Sci-Fi Cyberpunk game. It's got only two weapons but that's perfect since you can upgrade them and they will have many functions and they'll change visually as you upgrade.
I enjoy the look and the areas and it pays to explore, so don't rush through it!
I recommend this title to any FPS, sci-fi, Cyberpunk, RPG fan out there!!

A relatively old game that's still great to play. The CLN and NRG weapons have some of the coolest animations I have seen. Although you technically only hold two weapons, they each have different weapon types they can change into, which is where the animations come in. The CLN weapon is a gritty machine gun that can change into a shotgun, RPG, grenade launcher, and proximity mine launcher, while the NRG weapon is a sci-fi electricity gun that can shoot different types of projectiles that includes tesla electricity, homing projectiles, a high powered sniper-like shot, and electric mines. You can also upgrade each weapon type and give it a secondary fire that does its own unique attacks, like a dome that stops enemies in their tracks. The CLN and NRG weapons change appearance depending on what weapon you currently have equipped as well, which makes the game that much more appealing to play. I could cycle through the weapon animations all day.
One very small detail I'd like to mention is that I think the silhouettes of each weapon could be more clearer and sharper. The CLN gun mostly looks the same when you switch from machine gun to shotgun, with the only noticeable change is a different sound effect and going from one barrel to two barrels. The only obvious change to the CLN is the rocket launcher mode, which adds a big barrel on top. Every other weapon mode usually just adds a few changes on the sides and front, which are a bit hard to notice. The NRG weapon does add large moving parts with each upgrade, they could still use more sharper details. This entire detail is probably circumvented by the different cross hairs each weapon has, so you eventually switch through weapon types by looking at the cross hair instead of the weapon itself. I scroll through the weapons with the mouse wheel because I prefer it over the number line keys, so I'm used to going through every weapon mode to the one I want to use.
I'm basically recommending this game because of how cool the weapons are, but I'll describe the actual game play as well.
There are a lot of times where the sci-fi environment of the city just made me take a break from the game. I enjoyed just taking a little pause to look at the rain, the buildings, the moving vehicles in the sky. I appreciate environmental and sound design very much.
Combat is tough as nails and you need to be quick. I played on normal difficulty and I found that to be a pretty good challenge. I'm not too big on the combat, though. A lot of enemies with projectiles sometimes just hit you despite dodging like, ten million miles away. They just somehow hit you, I have no idea how. There isn't a lot of damage feedback either. Enemies don't really flinch and make damage noises, so it's just a lot of shooting and wondering if you're hitting them or not, especially in the early game. I think the worst part about the game is the camera, there is just so much shaking, especially when it comes to using the CLN machine gun mode and sprinting. Even though I got used to it, it's still annoying.
The story, well, I doubt anyone played this game for the story lol. The comic book cutscenes are cool, but the voice acting in this game is questionable. It's mediocre at best, but it's not ear-grating bad. It's fun to hear how weird the voice acting is in this game sometimes. The protagonist loves his curse words, it's hilarious.
That's all I have to say. I really just played this game to admire the animations and sci-fi aesthetic, but it's a pretty solid and enjoyable game if you're looking for a fun time shooting robots.

(7/10)

Small team produced FPS with a gritty cyberpunky edge to it. The game starts relatively slow with floods of bullet sponge enemies and very weak initial weapons but its upgrade system comes in to play here and if you make purchases intelligently (go for unlocking weapons FIRST) you can get a pretty effective arsenal in pretty short order.

I actually enjoyed the overall game decently well but docked about a point and a half off due to instability on more modern systems/builds that has crept in. I believe there is a 'redux' re-issue which may solve some of these but even the older game looks and feels pretty modern actually with its ability to hit very impressive frame rates even with settings maxed out now.

That is actually why I held off playing through it for so long, the game play pretty much demands very accurate and fast control and response and back when the game was new, my system simply couldn't get me there.

It was in 2015 that I found this game, but I could not play it because of the system, and I kept dying in the game, and now that I have played the steam version of this game, I am really disappointed with it and I realized that it is really an occupied game. The difficulty of this game, like some games, is really nonsense, but you might say that this game is known by its name, it should be hard, but no, it is not, the gameplay system is really nonsense and occupation so that it was difficult to destroy the enemy and because the game Your HP value is known and it is not like games like call of duty, it makes the game harder and in the second stage, small bomb robots attack you and you can not kill them in any way and you die and from here I left the game And it really is an occupation. Do not buy this game at all, it is not worth playing. (If you buy the redux version of this game, which is very cheap at a discount, the regular version will give you free)

Hard Reset is a game that was falsely advertised to me as a fast paced old school FPS.

I'd personally describe an old school FPS as an FPS game with a fast skill based movement system including weaponry that requires multiple styles of aiming and a challenging variety of enemies. Hard Reset only really achieves the weaponry aspect as well as potentially having challenging enemies but it's quite debatable as with the game not having any real movement capabilities a lot of the enemies don't really feel challenging but cheap.

Movement

In Hard Reset you walk at a snail's pace from area to area only having the ability to sprint for about three seconds before your character huffs and puffs and stops dead. Jumping is more or less you as the player asking for the enemies to kill you as there's no real feeling of momentum behind jumps so you might as well be jumping on the spot. This decision for movement capabilities really baffles me as a few of the enemies are seemingly designed around the player quickly being able to avoid attacks. There's a heavily armoured brute type enemy that has an easily telegraphable charge attack that's only really avoidable if you're a decent distance from it in the first place and even then you don't have much room for error. You may think you’d be able to simply sprint and jump to the side, but for some unknown reason you can’t do both of these inputs at the same time, it’s one or the other. This same enemy scenario in any actual old school FPS you'd be able to quickly manoeuvre out of the way through strafe jumping, a dash ability or at the very least a jump with some sort of air control. At a later point in the game there's a different enemy that moves quicker than the player and does a lunge attack that I'll admit is quite easily dodgeable if you're paying a decent amount of attention, but that's on top of avoiding multiple other enemies such as the before mentioned charging brute.

Weaponry/Bullet sponginess

So with the prior mentioned movement issues, you shuffle around like some sort of zombie loosely tracking whatever enemy you find with one of your two pea shooter guns. The enemies that are seemingly meant to be fodder are unnecessarily bullet spongy at the early stages of the game making the starting weapons feel weak and unrewarding to use. Eventually you're able to upgrade the guns and through that you get a lot more weapon functionality such as having a shotgun or grenade launcher attachment. This ticks the box for having weaponry that requires multiple styles of aiming, however the combination of the sound effects, screen shake and enemies that seemingly have more health than they have any right having makes a lot of the weapon attachments also feel unsatisfying to use. Note that I did give the game a total of two hours playtime so I didn't experience all the weapon attachments the game has to offer so this may be somewhat of an unfair series of complaints.

Screen shake/Head bob

This game has an absolutely abysmal amount of screen shake upon the player doing almost any action as well as a prominent head bob whenever you move. I get that some people don’t mind and enjoy camera effects such as these, but I personally ended up feeling very nauseated and I would’ve appreciated a way to disable them in the options menu.

Positives

I really wanted to give the game a chance as I do quite enjoy the cyberpunk aesthetic and find the graphics quite pleasing to look at considering it's a decently aged game having came out in 2011. I loved the level of destruction and carnage that each combat encounter would cause and also quite enjoyed the planning that went behind combat encounters through the use of the environmental hazards throughout the levels. Enemy designs were quite interesting and I imagine their mechanics would be quite engaging to play against without my issues with the games movement.

Very doom-esque game, but in a sci-fi setting & with good graphics for its time. Still holds up today if you're into these kind of games!

Im not really enjoying it
its a game where focused on shooting action gameplay with less cutscene ect
but if you love to play action shooter fps, or if you have played bulletstorm, bioshock, singularity, then just give it a try its actually good game for its price but its just not my taste

I can't recommend this game. The plot is very generic and while the minute to minute shooting is passable, the weapons don't feel really great to use. There are a few cheap deaths with rushing enemies and the bosses were not impressive at all. I got to the end but there are a lot better shooters out there.

Well i don´t know where to put this game...

Gameplaywise it´s an absolute trainwreck. No crouching, sprinting only for 3 seconds and massive health loss because of exploding stuff all around you. Platforming parts are fitted with insta-death-pits...You missed the platform?
Back to the latest checkpoint. Likewise, the enemies are waaaaaay too overpowered and the weapons deal only limited damage.

But I must say that the graphics are really impressive for 2011 in some parts of the game. The best example is the subway station. Even the physics are quite enjoyable.

The futuristic setting is dystopic, dirty and dark. It is reminiscent of Blade Runner in many ways.

However, I am still unclear about the plot of the game as it is very patchy. . . Machines that seize power? An out-of-control AI? Ehhh what? Unfortunately, the end in the main game does not offer (including the DLC) any real answer to these questions.

All in all, Hard Reset is a difficult game, which feels unfinished and worthy of improvement. Despite everything, Hard Reset deserves a chance if you're willing not to complain 24/7 about the gameplay.

It seemed interesting and I wanted to like it but it was just... meh. And that just isn't enough to be worth anyone's time with so many good games being published all the time.

Fun, exciting and unfairly challenging at times. Some of the level designs are really tough. But that the reason why you play fps isnt it? You want a fair and easy game? Go play monopoly.

It's a really good FPS game. I just realized how similar the weapon upgrade system is to Doom 2016.

Some drawbacks:
EDIT: I just discovered you have to upgrade your gun to get the right-click aiming, so that is another point in it's favor.

No right-click aiming feature. This is something pretty standard in FPS games and it just feels like it should have it. Either that or using right click to do the alternate fire mode, which you have to switch.

No crawling. Another standard FPS feature that is missing.

EDIT: As I continue to play, I have realized that the environment art in this game is among the best I've seen in an FPS. The first few levels are all pretty similar, but later on there is a quite a lot of variation. It is really amazing!

Neither of these are deal breakers. It is still very fun to play. The graphics are great. It's challenging. I guess there could also be a wider variety of enemies, but overall good experience so far.

When this came out it was a breath of fresh air. I'd stay it has still aged well. It is by no means an easy, linear shooter. So if you like a challenge, give it a go!

I bought this for 2€, and i still wouldn't recommend it.

the shotgun's spread is ridiculously big
explosive items do a ton of damage to you, and they are everywhere, and the enemies can blow them up too, resulting in you taking a lot of damage
game doesn't like it when you alt tab
enemies blend into the environment
the story is a mess
enemies are not very interesting. Dinky robots that wouldn't be able to overtake anything, let alone a city
filthy hitscanner enemies that never miss
no feedback on hit, some enemies just dont react to you shooting them at all, it doesn't interrupt their actions, they dont bleed, they dont stop moving when shot, it just feels like you missed point blank
explosions that damage you through walls
mercifully short
enemies are massive damage sponges
i can't see shit from all the fucking effects
your own explosions have no damage fall-off. It doesn't matter if you're 5 cm from the blast, or 3 meters, you'll receive the same damage, which is a lot. Unfairly enough this doesn't apply to the enemies. You either hit them directly or they barely take any damage.
game has a nasty habit of punishing you for going into secrets (by spawning a million tiny enemies to block your movement in a tiny area)
no manual saving, so autosave can fuck you. For me it saved with 5 fucking health
enemies will damage you even if they miss
stamina runs out in less than 2 seconds
the lightning gun autoaims for you, and it prefers aiming at the ground, than the enemies
No cloud saving, which means your save file i s gone when you uninstall the game
