Why are we releasing this beta patch?
Last month, we released a similar update for Homeworld Remastered Collection that was designed, in part, to allow for cross-platform multiplayer between Steam users and Epic Games Store users. What we learned is that pushing a patch like that to all players suddenly did not create an ideal user experience: It broke mods and we also uncovered some new issues that, quite frankly, we couldn’t foresee until the public got their hands on the update. We are making the informed decision to release a beta patch early for Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak’s 1.4 Update. This will allow users to opt-in and safely try the new update with the intention of maintaining a better user experience for all our current players. How do I access the beta patch?
To opt into the beta patch on Steam, navigate to your Library in the Steam client and locate Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak in your game list. Right-click on Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak and select Properties. Select Betas from the left-hand menu and you will see a field to input a code. Add the code HomeworldDoK14 and select Check Code. Once the code has been verified, you can then select the beta patch through the dropdown at the top of the Betas window. Once you’ve opted into the beta branch, your Steam client should begin downloading the game files. What is in the beta patch?
