By giving every player the power to rescue their team from the jaws of destruction, Jamestown creates an exhilarating cooperative experience where everyone?s contribution truly matters. Win or lose, your team will do it together.

A simple. pixelart , bullethell shooter with few and short levels. But is't made with love and skill.
Fun to play.
Seems like the hitbox is smaller than the sprite of your ship, which makes you feel you are the dodgeboss. But is think that's standard in this genre.

This game is an absolute BLAST for everyone who likes a good shootemup. It has incredibly soulful graphics (every pixel here is a work of love) and just great controls. What else do you need?

As far as bullet hell games go, this one is pretty good overall. The controls are tight and responsive (although more variability in keybinds would be nice) and the different ships and their own unique mechanics are a nice touch. However one of my main gripes with this game that makes me unable to recommend it is the lack of any indication of your hitbox. I've played a good number of bullet hell games and most if not all of them either have a hitbox that just is the player sprite or is indicated on the player sprite in some fashion (touhou is the best example of this system done well). This problem unfortunately makes the game incredibly irritating to play on higher difficulties where bullet patterns become chaotic and knowing your hitbox becomes a crucial part of dodging. I realize that the game explains the hitbox during the tutorial however there's no way to tell in the middle of dodging a complex bullet pattern. So sadly I can't really recommend this game when playing on higher difficulties like legendary or divine.

One of those needlessly frustrating games where one fights the interface more than the game itself. The mechanic of the immediate insta-death on any damage is needlessly stressful. The forced, unskippable. slow post-death screen and level intro-screens are infuriating when trying to get back into the level and add to the overall fast stress build up.

Jamestown is a fun game, with a cool setting, and nice art. Its also got intense and frequent graphical glitches that are so off putting I don't want to play anymore. Looking at the forums these problems seem to be widespread, and have been left unfixed for years. I know its an old game, but it really doesn't seem to work properly on modern systems, and people should know about that.

It's an okay SHMUP...pretty fun bullet hell but 100% not worth it's original price. $10 is ridiculous for what was an hours worth of content. I'm sure there'd be more content if I also bought the DLC, but I'm not about to pay $5 more dollars for what will probably be 30 more minutes worth of content.. There are simply way better games for your buck. I'd only recommend the game if you can get it for like $5 or so.
The difficulty curve is also pretty bullshit, it's very easy up until the final level where it just spams concepts never introduced prior, and the actual level ends up being 100x harder than the final boss lol. That being said it didn't ruin the overall experience.
Also throughout playing I had numerous graphical glitches which seem to be caused by the fact I'm running a Radeon graphics card, but it wasn't any major glitches or anything.

One of the earlier indie gems that I was surprised to find had aged fairly quickly.

I was initially just surprised to see a remaster of Jamestown in my news feed coined Jamestown+. This game was one of the earlier Humble Bundle gems that I enjoyed all those years ago. Back when things were indeed quite humble. I was hopped up on that DRMfree drug and enjoying the mini-renaissance of dinky little indie PC games. Jamestown wasn't quite a diamond, but still a gem, and I had good fun with it. Pointlessly long story short; seeing there was a remaster was a good enough excuse to revisit the original laying dormant in my Steam mountain of shame.

My surprise quickly turned from the idea of a remaster to the state of the original. Was a lot less content than I remembered, and the graphical glitches were abundant enough to make me clearly understand why Jamestown+ became a thing. Whether it's because of W10, something else, or rose tinted memories; I was indeed surprised by the bugs and clunky interface. Not quite what I had remembered. But nothing interfered with gameplay and I had a couple hour sit down to remember old times. There's really deceptively little content here given the amount of assets. I feel like this game's campaign should've been 10x as long without the emphasis on replaying on higher difficulties and unlocking bonus levels. But what's there is great fun. And it is all very friendly to people who aren't diehards of the shoot'em up genre while still being a heck of one. Style, sound, and unique setting bring the package all together.

I threw them the couple of bones for Jamestown+ and will be checking it out some time. And honestly, that's probably the route to take to any newcomer; Just get the remaster. But this game, bad aging and all, is a definite thumbs up.

Jamestown is a vertical shoot 'em up set on an alternative history steampunk era planet Mars in the 1600's. No, really.

The game has beautiful pixel art reminiscent of late 90's shoot 'em ups. The backgrounds are full of detail and life as you fly over. I had some odd graphical glitches on both the title screen and in game, where textures would start flickering. Searching online shows this has been an issue for several years now too.

The game has 5 levels, with 5 difficulties, 4 ships, and a bunch of challenge levels to complete, making replayability high. The first 4 levels are great to play through with some really fun bosses to defeat, and even on legendary difficulty it never felt too hard. However, the difficulty skyrockets on the final level. It's full of maze-like objects that are constantly moving as you navigate through them, while you're also avoiding the bullet hell being rained down upon you, only to find the final boss has multiple forms to defeat at the end. Pure agony to get through. I spent more time trying to beat the final level than I spent playing the other four combined.

But despite that I still had a huge amount of fun playing and it felt rewarding once I finally beat it.
