Just Cause ist ein Action-Adventure mit einer großen Open World. Man spielt einen Agenten (Antonia Banderas look alike) und muss das örtliche Regime stürzen (Wie in jedem Teil der Reihe). Die Spielwelt besteht mehreren fiktiven karibischen Inseln und ist recht groß, aber auch sehr leer und unbelebt.

Der erste Teil der Reihe ist nicht sonderlich gut gealtert, die Nachfolger, die mehr oder weniger das selbe Spielgefühl bieten, haben eine bessere Grafik, eine bessere Steuerung und schönere Spielwelten.

Wenn man also lust auf diese Art Spiel hat sollte man sich eher einen der Nachfolger kaufen. Wer keinen wirklich guten PC hat oder einfach alle Teile spielen will, kann es sich zulegen.

Für ein Spiel aus 2006 hat es auf jeden Fall seine Standards. Jedoch kommt man kaum vorwärts, der Enterhaken ist unheimlich schlecht (nur an Fahrzeugen zu benutzen) und man muss stets gehen (Rennen gibt es auch nicht) bzw. langsame Fahrzeuge fahren. Dann gibt es nur 20 Missionen der Story. Mit einigen Programmierfehlern und Texturbrüchen ensteht insgesamt ein unfertiger Eindruck und den Spielspaß habe ich bis auf ein zwei Stellen eher nicht gefunden. Schade!

The graphics are really bad, the controls are clunky, the audio is not so great, the story is decent. There is a huge difference compared to the next game from the series. Don't think it's worth investing time into it nowadays, but back in 2006 this would have been a blast.

It might be old, but it's fun to play, for a 2006 game it has a really huge map to explore. If you played Just Cause 3 or 4 before this one, you will be disappointed, it lacks a lot of stuff and activities from his successors. You can add widescreen support tho with some files from internet, which is great to play on 1080p resolution. For 1$ you can give it a try, it's not special but, it's just nostalgic, at least for me, in special if you are a Just Cause fan.

My advice for everyone who wants to play this to get through the main missions quickly and not to bother doing anything else. To beat the game quickly I recommend getting a helicopter with missles whenever possible and if not possible getting extracted to the main misson.

I got this game for my PlayStation 2 as a gift when I was a kid and I enjoyed the game a lot, Although a bit confused as to what to do? where to go? how to move? what was the parachute deploy button? oh no i died >.<

I lost the disc somehow or it got scratched I cannot remember. I didn't even know the name of this game back then. Until only today when I bought and launched Just Cause(because it was dirty cheap and I've played Just Cause 4 so I wanted to give the first game in the series a try) and as I was skydiving in the first mission sweet sweet nostalgia hit me, this is the game the one where I used to love soaring through the sky, driving around pulling off epic stunts, freeing the people from rogue ruler.

I'm playing this game because I have some sort of compulsive disorder that prevents me from playing a game series unless I start it from the very beginning. I have all the other games in the series thanks to various bundles from Humble Bundle, but I thought it would be rude not to play it.

It's just fine for its time, there is plenty to do, and your character Rico is practically super powered compared to contemporary comparisons like eg CJ from San Andreas, who can't ride a bloody bicycle properly unless you spend hours training...

Conceptually it is great, you jump from vehicle to vehicle, you grapple hook onto a helicopter, you freefall from that helicopter and parachute into a speed boat, then jump the speedboat over a ramp into an enemy base, then you progress through the base by finding the best way to make the most explosions happen.

The story missions are a mixed bag, some are almost trivially easy, while others are a real slog. I'd almost say it hardly really matters since the missions are a sideshow to the actual game of progressively liberating the provinces, but there are moments where I wished the game would just let me be done with them and let me get on with my life.

Destroying a coke plantation single handedly sounds great on paper, but the tools the game gives you to do it are distinctly unsatisfying. Out of character with the theme of the rest of the game, they don't give you a flamethrower or anything like that, you have to tediously spray chemical weedkiller over every last plant in every field. While helicopters are raining lead on you from the sky and trucks are harrassing you on the ground. Six. Times. Did you miss one? Start again!

Then there's a particular mission to destroy a power plant in which the game maximises your 'wanted' level, which made me wish the game was Deus Ex, so I could, you know, not have a maximised wanted level and actually get the job done without alerting the entire military and police force. Because since they are essentially infinitely respawning, you don't ever feel any satisfaction from gunning them down, no matter how fun it is to shoot down a helicopter that is pinning you down, you know as soon as you do, another one will instantly spawn to replace it, so you just ignore them until you have to climb a fucking ladder. It's like that game you play against yourself in GTA where you see how much carnage you can cause and how long you can survive, except that... well it isn't quite as much fun when it is forced on you and you can't call it a day and move on.

I think the main problem with this game now though is that it has been massively superseded, even by it's own sequel. Don't be like me. Just play any of the sequels, there is a reason this game has sequels.

If you do want to get this game, you can fix the resolution by adding to the steam command line:

/width=1920 /height=1080

Or, you know, whatever your screen resolution is. This can't be got at from the game menu, no one had monitors capable of such high pixel density back then anyway :)

Just Cause 1, the game that started one of my favorite game franchises and also the first game I got to play in the series all the way back in 2010. Yes I got introduced to Just Cause 1 few months before Just Cause 2 was released...
And I can see why people who played the other games will see the first game as outdated and clunky.
But it doesn't mean it's a bad game and I don't say this because I'm blind with nostalgia because I know what the problems with this game in terms of physics, gameplay, replayability and the story.
the story... Ehhh... this story is the most basic thing you can expect.
Bad guy wants to start a nuclear war, Rico goes boom boom around the country until bad guy is dead...
So don't expect much from the story.
But the combat is still good, very basic but good, controlling Rico and aiming guns feels smooth and accurate, not in a realistic way but in a fun way, sometimes less is more and the combat in this game is a good example (just don't try to punch people, stick to the guns)
Driving can be a bit of a mess, especially on a modern hardware that runs the game on very high FPS sometimes which can lead to some weird behaviors on some of the vehicles...
If you driving a tank and it starts to fly, just let it be if you know what I mean ???? (from experience)
Other then that most cars and bikes are fine to drive around ones you get to the driving physics, same goes towards the planes.
Helicopters and Boats are very easy and fun to navigate around with.
Visuals in my opinion are very good for 2006, not specifically talking about the character models but more the environment. And the lighting looks outstanding for the time and holds up quite good even today.
The one problem some people might find with the environment is that San Esperito is a country full of forest areas and in general very green. You might get sick of seeing green everywhere outside big cities...
So... this is what you need to know about Just Cause 1
Outdated? Yes.
Visuals? Fine.
Gameplay? Playable and can be good when getting used to it.
Fun? Can be fun depending on how nitpicking you are...
It's also quite a short game if you don't do much of the side content it has to offer and just goes to the main story missions.
And if you interested to see where the Just Cause series started from, there is no better way then playing the first game yourself.

Mechanically it's not too dissimilar to the later games, it's just... older.

The first Just Cause hasn't held up well. The open world may have been impressive for the time, but I find it rather bland today. The sloppy vehicle handling makes it hard to enjoy the scenery, which feels relatively samey for a large map (probably due to graphical limitations of the time). All of the side missions are repetitive and dull, something only worsened by the gameplay. The hookshot isn't even that good in this release. There are also some very annoying difficulty spikes that make finishing the game a hassle.

I think it's fine to just skip to Just Cause 2. None of the content in this game is worth slogging through unless you're interested in it from a historical/preservationist perspective.

grabbed this game on sale for less than a dollar a couple years ago, despite it having pretty bad reviews. I finally got around to playing the game for about an hour and thought it was a decent game with a massive open world island setting. however, the game is extremely repetitive with the missions and there are a lot of glitches, and apparently some are game-breaking and actually render the game unplayable. this is a really bad PC version of a game that was actually playable on consoles. the sequels are fortunately much better by mostly all accounts, and this is really only worth it if you want the story of the original game, but after reading the storyline/plot/ending (because i literally can't even start up the game anymore and i don't care enough to fix it), the game is basically liberating villages using the same boring mechanics over and over with a really basic storyline, with tons of even more repetitive side missions doing the same kind of stuff with minimal story.

as a completionist, i'm kind of glad i don't have to spend 30 or more hours playing this game doing all the repetitive side stuff in the game, even though i only paid a dollar for this game. this game definitely hasn't aged well since it came out in 2006.

i have been reviewing games that i complete on steam for a while now, and this is the first time that i can honestly say i don't recommend this unless you're getting it for a dollar or something and want to experience it and actually care enough to troubleshoot the inevitable issues.

The story is mediocre at best, helicopters are overpowered, the villain is overlooked until the end, but the graphics and the world design is the real highlight. Someone made a comment on Youtube on how the skies and water look like they're straight from a painting, and its all true. It looks so much better than Vice City or San Andreas for that matter. Would still recommend JC2 because its the best Just Cause experience.

JC2 is one of my favourite games of all time. I finally got around to playing JC1. Imagine a cut down JC2 on a GTA3-esque engine. It's great in a lo-res way.

All of the locations are pretty much the same: start the liberation by talking to a guy just outside the location; kill enough bad guys to unlock a barricade; destroy barricade; repeat 3 times, then either kill the boss or raise the flag.

The agency missions are fun, but difficult enough to give you a sense of achievement.

The side missions are repetitive, but unload great weaponry for the agency missions, so they are worth doing.

Vehicle physics also feels off the larger a vehicle gets; cars and motorbikes are fine, tanks however fling themselves around and roll like crazy.

The grappling hook is borderline useless, compared to later JC games, as it only latches onto vehicles.

Just play this game because I've bought Just Cause franchise.
ngl, I'd love play a lot of old/classic game but this game is so confused, I spend time to travel almost equal time to do story mission, side mission is real repeat.
At least Base Capture mission is fun tho.

Play it only to know the story and how the game used to be

I can not recommend this and recommend this at the same time. The game is outdated, heck, it's from 2006. But I believe at its time it used to be something special, otherwise, they wouldn't have come with 4 sequels.

I have focused all of my time on stories and just a few missions on side ones. The game was not as bad and I'm surprised that I was able to finish it even with the graphics that it has and lots of silly bugs and glitches.

➕Pros:
+ Gameplay must have been good at its time, bringing some innovative stuff in the gaming genre
+ For a 2006 game, I was impressed by small here and their details of physics and graphics. Keep in mind that there are games that come out today that look just as poorly as this game and still do a good job.
+ The story is mediocre, but not too bad really.
+ Great to try if you want to see where Rico began his journey and how Just Cause started.
+ Decent controls.

➖Cons:
- Combat is fairly easy, I felt as if I'm having some sort of hacks as I was able to take an army of enemies easily. That could be a plus if you wish to zoom in and finish the campaign in 8-11 hours.
- It's outdated and not everybody gonna like it. But if you can ignore that, you might find some fun in it as I did.
- Not much to do except fetch quests, kill quests, and the main quest. Although I was briefly in the game so I can see the story, which I could see on YouTube, I decided to digest it in-game and see the evolution of the game.
- Clunky controls at times, especially when flying and diving.
- Lacks a lot of features that later in the franchise will be introduced.

⭕Conclusion:
Just Cause is a game I never have I expected to play in 2021, but it was worth it and I plan to play other similar to this from its period.
If you're interested in knowing the characters and the franchise better, give this game a try. If not, watch the story on YouTube, because you're not missing out much.
I believe in 2006 was a pretty fun game, that brought a lot of unique features to the gaming genre, but nowadays it feels outdated, but playable never the less.

What a shitty fucking game. You spend more time driving across the map to the next mission than you do in the missions. Sometimes you can get an extraction to take you directly to the next mission, but most of the time it says the Agency can't find you. You spend 15 minutes driving across a maze of roads to the mission for it to take less than 5 minutes. It tries to be a GTA-like game with terrible vehicle handling but it ends up just being incredibly annoying. You hit a pebble in the road and your car flips over 3 times and you have to watch it in cinematic view which makes it more likely to hit something else since you can't see in front of you. There are also lots of bugs and random crashes. On the mission where you have to defend the broadcast station, the guerrilla leader ran the opposite direction for about a mile until he found an unlimited swarm of cops and got run over instead of walking into the broadcast station. The unlimited swarm of enemies is annoying, especially when that includes an unlimited supply of gunships with perfect accuracy, somehow shooting you when you have tree cover - they know exactly where you are. On the final mission, instead of the bitch flying you over the island for you to parachute out, she drops you off 2 miles early where you have to get in a boat and dodge a swarm of missiles that will blow you up in one hit. You finally make it to the island, but you will likely have very low health cause the rockets hurt you even if they hit the water instead of your boat. Then you fight through an unlimited swarm of enemies and an unlimited swarm of gunships as you have to run to the center of the island. You can shoot rockets at the gunships but as soon as you blow one up, two more will take its place. If you get in a vehicle to make it to the center faster, you will immediately get blown up by a missile. One of the worst games I've ever played.

There are many of bugs and issues with this game to the point where you wont be able to fully complete all of the story missions (! Icon Missions) There is a Mission where you start in a helicopter with rockets and machine gun amno but you cant move it, I even tried other ways to complete the mission but its impossible to complete it if you cant use the helicopter.

Decent open world third person action adventure. Before you start playing, you need to lower your expectations, game is old and less complex. If you're curious how the Just Cause series started, check it out.

Pros:
- Huge open world;
- Good vehicles controls;
- Decent voice acting;

Cons:
- Liberation missions is to repetitiv;

You can't go wrong with a good old action game. This has decent open world gameplay and there is a great range of vehicles and weapons to acquire and try. There is a decent amount of collectables and settlements to liberate. Can't wait to try the sequel.

Just cause is fun classic game. Even though the game is old the environment is beautiful.
Had no bugs. glitches or crashing issues FOR ME.
The gameplay is quite easy.

Didn't age well at all.
combat is garbage, some mission are straight up nightmares.
driving is annoying, the story is non existent.
Just skip this and play the other ones in the serie instead, you're not losing anything, not even story/lore wise

Just cause 1 where it began, I've had this on console back in the day like 2007? and i loved it, despite it being a huge map with a lot of copy and paste places, bad driving physics and you sound like a posh horse when you move its actually pretty satisfying to muck about with. To see the game evolve a hell of a lot t just shows how far this title has come.

People are complaining how basic it is compared to the others , you have to bare in mind this is a 2006 game..it set the foundation of a gem. Playing this back in the day along with its rival GTA san andreas they are both very fun on their own spectrums. though it can be boring doing a lot of driving from one side to the other, having to use the old fashion way of finding a save point and no proper GPS, you have to think more about how to get there. Pretty much all old gen games never had a gps system and a pause and save system ;) giving a game a bad review just for those two things is laughable, wait til you find out that older games never had a save point then complain,

Just cause 1 will always be in my thoughts as a childhood gem <3

I didn't add Driv3r 3 to the list because lets not go there on that shitshow of a game :L

An amazing start for a franchise that will quickly become an unavoidable classic. The map is huge, weapons are varied, gunfights are both epic and funny, scenario is decent.
However your character, Rico, can take an incredible amount of bullets without dying while being rolled on the corner of the foot by a car launched at 2km/h sends him instantly into the other world. Acting is... huh... intense? Well all the characters of this game are overacting. Women only appear for their huge breasts, just as if all the players were needy heterosexual males. Vehicules are way too slow for the size of the map. The major thing you will do while playing this game is driving from point A to point B, avoiding multiple cars on the way. Plus some missions only requires to drive even more. Sometimes you wanna cut through jungle to get to destination faster but you will surely end up getting blocked by trees, rocks or impassable climbs. So the game makes sure you take the correct and extremely long route.
Physics are broken. The save option is awful since you must reach some dumb computer in order to save your game. Still playable and sometimes funny in spite of itself.

Genuinely it is remarkable that the outrageous and highly fun sequels to this game were a result of this tepid, repetitive open world shooter, which was too restrictive and tough to glean much enjoyment from.
Good for nostalgic purposes perhaps, but for anyone who enjoyed the later games (which are very much worth a buy, esp. 2 & 3) I would recommend steering clear.

I played it for over 100 hours before Steam. The game still works - it pulls you in, wanting to get into the theatrically acted plot and collecting items across a huge map. Isn't as streamlines as the sequels are, but it has freshness of a huge open world and it's so cheap I can't say anything against it.

I wanted to play the first Just Cause because i loved the sequel but i definitly don't like this one, it really didn't aged well

The controls are too difficult to play on PC and the character animations are frustrating to play with.

You can't change the sensibility to make that mouse acceleration less annoying like Just Cause 2, i think it's better on console

Maybe one day i'll force myself to play it again and i'll like it, who knows lol

I bought this game because I would like to play some of the more recent games in the Just Cause series, and I wanted to understand the backstory in case the new games made any references to past events. After playing for over 5 hours, I have to say that this game is extremely boring. The missions are repetitive. The combat is not particularly challenging. Most of the challenge come from the poor handling of the cars and the dodgy physics. It is hard for me to believe that this game first came out 5 years after Grand Theft Auto III (2001 versus 2006). It is inferior to GTA in every way.

It's a mess really.

-Cheap console port with no settings, can't even change sensitivity.
-Forced autoaim on turrets, choppers etc, if the game decides you aren't shooting at a target, you aren't.
-No manual saves, just checkpoints.
-Enormous map, but with barely anything of interest to explore.
-Missions are super tedious, you can't clear a location to move on, there are infinite spawning enemies present at all times. Best way to proceed is just to ignore them.
-Random choppers always flying above you during missions shooting rockets at you making it impossible to drive to the next mission checkpoint half the map away, you need to go on foot, that stops the rockets. Run speed is insanely slow. It takes forever to travel on foot. On the rare occasion there is no chopper, you get rammed off the road every 5 seconds and need to dump the car.
-Side missions super repetitive and boring, steal car, kill person, collect x junk.
-Story itself is the generic america freeing the world by installing pocket dictatorships around the world type of nonsense, I really hope america finally stops glorifying warmongering, state sponsored terrorism and war crimes sometime soon...
-Insane amount of bugs:
--Fresh car ordered from the agency sometimes just does not work. Sometimes they just get dropped on your head to kill you.
--T-posting bikers.
--Targets attempting to run up steep unclimbable hills, sometimes teleporting around.
--Cops never stop yelling at you, even if there are none around.
--Some vehicles are incapable of driving straight.

+Game can be very beautiful at times with all the trees and nature.

If you played any of the sequels you can skip this one. It feels like some beta version of JC2. Not all the mechanics from the sequel are there, there's something, but not enought. I've seen other reviews saying that it just didn't age well. I think that is not the case, grappling hook and vehicle jumping mechanics are just there and you barely need to use them during missions, generic shooting works well but it's just generic shooting, automatic aiming in vehicles takes away most of the fun. the missions are kind of ok, however you can skip most of the fighting just by running to the objective and completing it (there's one mission where you have to steal a truck and deliver it to a place: you can just run to the track killing whom is directly in front of you, take the track and just reach the delivery point. it doesn't require to kill or escape any of the enemy fores persuing you). Other than these gameplay flaws, it works well on modern hardware and the controls are good. but again, JC2 seems a remake of this other than a sequel, so it's better to go with it if you want to start this series.

A pretty clear thumbs down for me, with only bad things to say about it. However, this is from a current viewpoint, disregarding its very old release date.

- Unclear objectives, game gets confusing quickly
- Bad physics and graphics, gameplay not that great
- Story is unclear

It is however a very old game, and since it gave birth to one of the best series of games that have ever touched this earth, it still has some respect from me.

Being something of a completionist when it comes to video game franchises, I wanted to introduce myself to the Just Cause games the proper way; by starting with the first one.

Now I'll keep this short. Frankly. after having completed the game. I'm baffled at the people who think it hasn't aged well. I regret never having been aware of this gem back in the PS2 era. or I would have definitely spent way more time in San Esperito than in San Andreas.

Graphics-wise. the game is gorgeous. I can only imagine what it must have looked like to players back when it released. Regarding gameplay, I genuinely think Just Casue 1 is a more fun game than GTA San Andreas. The freedom you're allowed with every single damn mission is amazing. GTA V doesn't have the freedom this game does. And everything else, from shooting to driving to flying to skydiving. feels great in my honest opinion. Rico was just as unstoppable back then as he is now.

Also, I read many people saying that the last mission of the game was extremely hard. I don't know about them, but I didn't find it any harder than any other mission I'd done. I've definitely died more to some other mission.

All in all, especially for the price it's always going for, highly recommended if you're into older games.

Hasn't aged well but despite that it's still neat to go back and see the original in action. Not the roughest game i've played but you can tell the developers had a lot to learn at this point.

Now keep in mind folks, this is an OLD game. It is bound to be riddled with glitches and errors especially on newer hardware, yet it crashes every 30 minutes of playtime. This makes the game not fun. This also predates an autosave feature, meaning if you don't save religiously, you are going to lose progress. I love the Just Cause franchise and I'm still going to try to play through it, but its hard to because of the crashing. I would recommend skipping right to Just Cause 2 for a better experience.

It is one of those played it forget it.
Nothing special about it.
It had some bugs which could be annoying.
Only difficulty you will encounter is at the end.
Can't recommend it as it is currently. Play it on your own risk.
Do you miss out on something for wanting playing through the series? No. You can safely skip it.

I love this game a lot! Yes compared to Just cause 2, 3 and 4 it has not aged well i guess (Just cause 2 being my favourite) but just cause 1 is an amazing game. You can complete it super quickly but it is still fun to travel around and there is quite a lot to do. The soundtrack is also super nostalgic for me as i first played this game back in 2007. I personally rate this game 8.5/10 but don't just go off what i say, go play the game for yourself :)

Having played Just Cause 2 in the past I fully expected this to be just as fun albeit more unpolished and rough around the edges because this is the first in the series.

Boy was I even more disappointed as the game mechanics are incredibly poor, even to the point where I question whether the Devs have even played their own game.

The driving in the game is horrendous, it ranges between:
- Feeling like your driving a tank
- Constant speed wobbles on every vehicle
- Having your tires always coated with butter

Poor driving controls mixed in with infinite enemy spawns makes this whole affair even worse, when 3-4 enemy vehicles instantly spawn catch up with you and box you in, in a literal bang gang of vehicular cluster f.

Alternatively you get out of your car, kill all the soldiers, get back in the car, drive 100 or so odd meters, then the game spawns another group of vehicles, then you repeat until you reach your destination or your car explodes.

Just Cause 2 is overall the better game.

A flawed start of a franchise of mayhem fun

To think I played this last of all the Just Cause games; it shows that the first title has fulfilled most of its vision and yet, it missed the mark that time. It's more of a GTA clone with only a few features to show for, including a vast island landscape, factions to fight and serve for perks, parachuting stunts and a grappling hook with more limited usability.

It only misses some essential features that would make the following sequels much more appealing; there's only jungle terrain with barely any variation, side missions that get stale pretty quickly and there's too little impact I get from combat scenes.

The developers have certainly come a long way to perfect the formula in Just Cause 2, both aesthetically and gameplay-wise! I wouldn't recommend this game to players new or familiar to the franchise but with all due respect, it served as a ramp up to the mayhem success of the sequels that followed. Skip this one and start with Just Cause 2 instead.

Just beat the game. Controls were very clunky but the game was fun overall, there is a little bit of a story but i dont think you need to play the first one to understand what is going on. Play it if you are one of those people who want to beat every game in the series but other then that id start with 2. i give it a 6/10

This game is old and it shows. I had a lot more fun playing this than the latest Just Cause 4 however and that should speak volumes.

The driving is acceptable, the graphics are similarly non offensive, and the audio design is that of a game that was released in 2006. With a simple .ini file download this game supports any aspect ratio you would dream of. And I find that incredible.

The gun play is very simplistic with the aim system having carried over to the other just cause titles. Enemies will spawn right next, behind, or in front of you. Your health is more than enough to accommodate holding your ground however. I like the liberation missions where you have to fight through a few barricades that the enemy has set up and capture the flag in the end in order to bring the city under the control of the rebels.

As soon as the skirmish is over, the happy citisens of the town will IMMEDIATELY go back to selling cold beer. That is the amount of care I would like to have in life. This game has a beautiful message and that is to carry on with your life, no matter the storm that surrounds you. Because the storm will eventually pass. Dwelling on the damages is not going to fix them. And if that is not a beautiful message we can all get behind, then I do not know what is.

I'd give this a mixed review if I could, in short newer JC games are better and you should play those instead.

Just Cause games are pure mayhem and action it's like GTA games with cheat codes, it's fun when there's lots of stuff happening at the same time and you are shooting and doing ridiculous stunts to achieve your goals but this one can be a bit boring in that regard because there's lots of downtime and map design isn't that great so you have to do a lot of boring stuff like walking around fences for minutes or waiting for cars to spawn so you can hijack one etc.

There are just better pure action games out there and I wouldn't recommend this one unless you are playing on an absolute potato that can only run this game.

This was fun on consoles two decades ago, but this PC port doesn't hold up well by modern standards. The series overall is really fun, but buy any of the newer ones. 2 is a slight step up from 1, 3 really nails it for PC and 4 is just more of 3.

Basically just look at the prices, if you can get 3 for cheap you'll get a lot of value out of it and if you still want more then get 4.

There's no reason to play this old one except for nostalgia junkies.

Beforehand

I have played Just Cause 2, 3 and 4 before this, so I am highly likely biased as JC2, 3 and 4 are much more modern compared to this first game. The game needs 2 fixes before you can truly appreciate it, one is an Widescreen patch, another is a fix for a shadow bug which you may get on Nvidia cards. (Unsure about AMD or Intel.) Story

You are Rico, a badass almost indestructable hero. You are brought to San Esperito, the world of this game. A corrupt president rules this country and is holding it hostage as an dictatorship. It's your job to slowly but surely make him lose all his power by doing missions to help the rebels.

Gameplay

Similar to any of the early 3D GTA games (GTA III, VC, SA), but with a parachute, and a (Early version of the) grappling hook. (This grappling hook isn't as good as JC2, 3 or 4's one, but shows minor simularities, such as being able to grapple towards vehicles). For a 2006 game, the world feels pretty huge, although filled with trees, which reduce your playspace.

Performance

I have a GTX 1060 and an i5 3470, and this game runs perfectly. No stutter, no framedrops, with V-sync on it held 60 fps at all times. (My monitor is 60 hz.) I am quite sure that anyone can run this as long as they can run minesweeper as well.

Additional notes

As said before, this is the first game in the Just Cause series, and because of that, it is pretty dated compared to games on the market today.

My thoughts

I really like the Just Cause series, but for me this was just painful to play through. The side missions didn't interest me at all due to their repetitive nature, and the story was very basic for an action game. The grappling hook was my major offense though, it's not like the future JC games at all. You can only use it on vehicles, and even then, you'll have to be lucky to actually land on it and to be able to hijack it, especially any air vehicles. Rico having no run kind of screws you over as well, as I felt pretty slow. NPCs were fine though. Except when they came out of nowhere and start shooting you instantly. The cutscenes are pretty cheezy for a 2006 game, with some characters looking like literal clay.

Play this only if you want to experience how Rico's journey started. If you don't care about that, go straight to JC2 or even JC3, you won't miss anything.
I give this game an 5 out of 10.

In Just Cause you play as an immortal ghost of a mountain goat who drives indestructible vehicles and is visible by police only on roads but nowhere else.
It is a summary in short.

And no, it is not because the game is old.

For clarification:
- Our hero can climb any walls up to an about 80 degrees angle inclination;
- He can dive infinitely;
- Moreover any car or motorbike I tried did not received a scratch even when I hit a tree at full speed. Even more surprisingly the character was perfectly fine after the crash;
- 2nd floor, third or even higher? No problem. He will jump off the highest wall and land gracefully;
- The vast majority of trees don't exist for him. He's a ghost;
- Police starts shooting immediately after entering a road. Few steps into a bush and ta-da! No one runs after him, no one is chasing him.

Another con of the game is a large map which feels empty. Missions are like going from one side of an island to another, which takes tons of time and gives no satisfaction. How many times one have to ride one way to another and back. If the map was way smaller I feel I might give the game second try some day, but it bored me horribly.

Still, there is one thing that I love about Just Cause - its graphics. Despite the game is old it still looks great. Shaders, textures, depth of field, sky... Graphic designers did an awesome job.

If only a gameplay wasn't that bad...

Alright so this is very first game from Just Cause series the game came out in 2006 and it's not to bad when consider the games age because I'm writing the review in 2020.
So the game is dope I enjoyed it even though it took only 7 hours to complete.
The only thing that almost ruined the experience for me are the last 3 missions are insanely hard and took way longer to complete than it should have.
- Story mode 4/10
- Gameplay 5/10
- Graphics 5/10
Total - 14/30
The score I gave to this game is low but you can get this game for dirt cheap on a discount so I would still recommend it for you to play.

Now that i have 100% and played the game for 25 hours, i can talk about it. the game is an alright game if you just wana check it out. it has its quirks but its fine. but if you wana stick out with the game like me then it can get a lot worse. The game has some very bad design choises in the story mission wich made me angry. but the story is short so its fine. but the otehr stuff is where things get worse. the takeover missions are cool at first but after the 10 time it gets stale and there are like 60 of them. the open world is nice at first but the more you look at it the more boring it gets. the world is much bigger then it deserves. if it was half as big it would be managble but its the same islands again and again with a few places spreded around. The side missions are stale and unoriginal. and the fast travel system is cool but in the citys it doesnt work until you are out of the citys and that is a problem when you are like in a big one and you have to get out just to fast travel. in the end dont 100% this game, save your time and do something better. but if you want to check out the first game in this series, then go check it out all you want.

At first, it was gorgeous playing it, using grappling hook, entering into a car by its roof and other stuff, missions were pretty easier, therefore and the gameplay. After a while, missions got harder, with no guns with you approximately, ammo stores ain't around this game, it's buggy and the last mission, only by chance, you can finish it.

Don't make the mistake I made when I thought it would be nice to see the origins of the Just Cause franchise. This game is a buggy, boring, fever dream that likes to frequently swarm and/or insta-kill the player out of a lack of imagination. Just skip this one and go straight to Just Cause 2.

Just Cause is an old game, originally released for (and for me, played on) the PS2. It is clunky, starts freezing up if you keep it on too long without saving, has (compared to modern games) terrible graphics, sound design, and story. The voice acting is mediocre at best, and the game is severely lacking in many areas (such as describing game mechanics, for one) which we take for granted in modern games.
But you know what? It's FUN. There are guns and explosions and the cars can't be controlled in mid-air, and things blow up for seemingly no reason sometimes; if you stand in the road and do nothing chaos ensues around you, you can punch an AI and then they'll punch another AI (why???). This game is, by modern standards, broken, flawed, and bad. But I don't care. Because when I play this, I'm reminded of a simpler time, where games didn't have to be complicated to be great to play. And that's why I love this game.

Great story, great action, with boats, cars, trucks, tanks, jeeps, cycles, planes, helicopters and jets. Amazing terrain to explore freely from the outset. There's sniper rifles, guns, machine guns, rockets, grenades and more. Several versions depending on your PC capability. It the 2nd best game I ever owned.

Just Cause may have started a great series, but this first iteration is just took awkward to recommend. Shooting is awkward and driving is awkward and that's pretty much the majority of the game. The graphics are definitely dated by today's standards, but if you truly want an enjoyed Just Cause game then grab Just Cause 2, and maybe 3. This one just doesn't make the cut, even if it birthed a great series in the long run.
