  • Verbesserte Grafiken in Re-Reckoning.

Ansonsten besser Finger weg.

I only discovered this game recently, and at 21 hours in, I'm having a great time!

No bugs, crashes, or stuttering so far.

The graphics are gorgeous. Everything is so detailed; even gross areas are pretty in their own way.

Like seemingly every single other fantasy rpg, this one has tons of spiders to fight, and when they're not wandering caves or forests, they burrow up from the ground. Scares me every time they pop up, but at least they're not dropping down from the ceilings, which is far worse imo.

I love how alive the world feels. After I purchased from a vendor, he turned back to his work and started singing to himself. Some enemies respawn so you're not running through empty maps. After playing some rpgs that leave maps barren after you've killed everything, it's a welcome change.

The soundtrack is lovely; I've lingered in areas to be able to finish listening to a few different compositions.

Another thing I love about it is that while some areas are locked behind completing quests, there is sooo much that can be explored at your leisure. The amount of side-quests I've picked up so far is crazy, and for every one I turn in, I find three more. A lot of them are fetch quests, but they don't feel boring because most of the time you need to fight your way there and back, so the action keeps you on your toes.

I have enjoyed the leveling system and the ability to change your skills and fate.

The only thing that I would have loved to see in the game would be companions, but for some quests, you do have temporary companions, though so far they seem to not draw much aggro from enemies, making them kinda useless.

I'm sure I still have many, many more hours of play before I finish the game, and there's always the possibility that the story will end badly or things will become too repetitive, but given how strong the story is so far and how much lore there is, I'd be shocked if the story was a letdown in the end.

Last point, playing as a rogue is super satisfying and fun. I haven't delved much into other classes, but daggers/feyblades have been awesome, bows a bit less so.

Two thumbs up for now!

Some people playing at higher resolutions have experienced performance issues so be warned. Its a long game. I recommend buying on a sale.

For what is essentially a re-release, it's sad to see so many bugs and glitches in this thing. From achievements not popping, to quests not triggering, it's just an absolute nightmare. There is definitely some fun to be had, but ultimately this game needed a fresh coat of design work put into it. I would not currently recommend this to anyone in its state.

I love this game, it's a solid RPG, and tons of fun, BUT, there are just way to many bugs in this game, and many of them force you to reset your save file or back track 10s of hours of game play, so i hope you save often and know which saves are what. It hurts me to have to give this a thumbs down but after playing several story arcs and getting stuck in different areas each time and having to back track hours at a time or even reset my save file I just can't keep playing it. :(

This game is choke full of tropes, from all the side quests, tasks, and main story quests outside Fatesworn. Every single fantasy trope under the sun is in this game. If you like that, it's okay. If you notice and get annoyed at tropes, it's terrible. Don't bother buying or playing this game if the tropey, 'fateless but fated' trope is an annoyance for you.

Ellen was right.

What a fun game! Great story, engaging combat, and comprehensive RPG elements. Somewhere in between Skyrim (which I love) and Dragon ago (which I did not love).

You can tell some of the elements are dated, but absolutely worth the playthrough!

I’m not angry at it, just disappointed.
After 70h, playing the game in its entirety, and getting all achievements I can say my opinion about this game with no remorse. I would love to suggest this game, especially after this much time investment. But the only enjoyment I actually had in the game was because I was watching videos in the meantime, and that’s a new one for me.

Buyers Beware

The FATE Edition is not a bundle and cannot be purchased after the main game. Steam will NOT detract the cost of the base game and make you pay the difference. Currently, on sale, Fatesworn alone costs almost as much as the complete package.

Main Game

The game started as an MMO and was converted to a single-player and there still are some remnants of it.
The combat system features both melee and magic/abilities at the same time, all topped off with the Reckoning mode, which is like a rage mode from many games. The game tries to be a hack-and-slashy type of game, but even a greatsword is often not long enough making the combat frustrating. I had to use the ability to pull in enemies all the time as it was the only way I could reach the enemies 100%.
The game has an Alchemy system, and this is the first game I play where picking up an herb is a chance of taking it instead of being guaranteed. I plucked the plant, how can I not get it it’s beyond my understanding. The Alchemy skill tree increases the chances. Thanks…for selling me a solution to a problem you made.
There is also a Gem crafting system, but I never used it as the best equipment doesn’t have Gem slots.
Lastly, there is the Blacksmithing system that it’s not useful as enemies drop the loot for your level and equipment can’t be upgraded, including epic equipment.
The game has no free jump mechanic but you can jump from some specific platforms that often don’t give the prompt to and it’s a struggle to find where you can jump.
In my 100% competition of the game, I did around 300 quests. The biggest problem I have with them is that it’s mostly fetch quests going from A to B. Other than teleporting to a point of interest, you must walk to all your objectives while sprinting is slightly faster than running. This makes the game a solo-walking simulator more than people ever thought of Death Stranding. Not a joke, just a fact. You’re really lonely and there’s a lot of silence while going around. Sometimes you get a follower to walk around with. They fight but I swear I never saw them deal any damage so it’s just for quest-sake. I ended up summoning a skeleton friend to have some company while going around. For a completist, this game is a nightmare as it features uncompletable quests that are forever in your quest log.
The main story is nothing exciting, but it’s ok enough. You might read on websites like howlongtobeat that the main story lasts 20 hours: it’s a lie. Walking around the whole map takes 20h.
There are very few sound effects in the game, so the thing you hear the most is your footsteps. Being originally a 2012 title sometimes instead of in-game cutscenes, there are low-quality pre-rendered videos that have these beautiful background sounds of a battle to then cut to the in-game cutscene where it’s completely mute of ambient sounds and you only hear the characters make noises.
The biggest disappointment for me though was the final boss as it was introduced so greatly, and you don’t even get to fight it. What you actually fight is some minions until you get the Reckoning ability up and that damages the boss.

Re-Reckoning? More like Re-Release.

Re-Reckoning presents itself as a remaster, but the real remaster work seems to be the texture upscale, which looks like it was done with Photoshop’s Preserve Details 2.0. It looks like just an upscale, and if the detail was not there to begin with, it just looks blurry. The in-game HUD has a scaling option between too big and too small while the rest doesn’t scale. I’m not a fan of the new HUD because whatever they did, now you can see color-bending in most things, especially the health bar of enemies.
This new version comes with its own new and improved bugs and crashes. I had lost 9h of progress because the game would not read my profile and I saved it thanks to some tinkering that included reinstalling the game, creating new profiles, and using save managers. I suggest checking the Nexus for tools like the F2 Console as that saved me from many bugs the Remaster did not fix and from new ones that are just for the remaster. i.e: There is a quest that requires 6 items for competition but the game only features 5.

Dead Kel

It starts with this in-game cutscene of your character stranded on a beach and as it stands up the devs really decided to use every sound the character can make to communicate that in the perfect silence of the in-game cutscene. You’ll see your character do the impossible as you moan, cough, and lament all at the same time.
The DLC itself is a very linear story but comes with a very small map that at the end of the DLC story gets re-used with missions that make you backtrack all of it just to make the DLC last longer.
There is also a new Faction where you become the Lord of a keep in the DLC, but these missions are repeatable so they don’t go away. You also get the chance to adopt pets like wolves, rats, bears, etc. Finally, I can stop summoning that skeleton to have some company. Except pets only stay at home and give the player a permanent buff, which makes them collectibles. Being the Lord you’ll be asked to do some more fetch quests from your subjects. Last but not least, a random woman you got as part of an alliance will force you to marry her to complete the quest. Although the quest does not complete, instead, it just stays in your quest log saying “Quest completed”. The game never featured romances except for some jokes, but now I can get married to a random NPC that is a woman regardless of your sex, so it forces your roleplay.
Once in the DLC map, you can only leave by talking to the ship captain, which is a woman. I never hinted at anything, but in the dialogue where I ask her to bring me back, she hints that we had intercourse. So 10m after getting married I cheated on my wife.

Teeth of Naros

This DLC story is not too bad but the map is really small. In the DLC, for the first time Contract Boards refill. A quest you get from an NPC asks you to find some treasures in the DLC and bring them, except the items are NOT in the DLC.
The maps are very vertical and hard to navigate, especially the sewers. During this DLC the developers decided to showcase the limits of the game engine. You can’t climb ladders, just like in Skyrim they only teleport you to the other side, but in this DLC they decided to use them everywhere inside the map. It’s confusing for my skeletal friend too as he was always stuck at the ladder.
The game added a new type of damage in this DLC: Beast damage.
Good thing you read about it here cause it’ll be the only time you ever think about it.
Again, in this DLC often you’ll be asked to go to the same maps for small fetch quests, which I think is just diluting more what the game offers.

Fatesworn Review Here

Conclusion

I started this game with the mindset of WANTING to play it, sadly the more I went on with it the more I realize that what seemed beautiful in the demo was just smoke and mirrors. The game, for me, was fun just cause in all that brain-dead fighting and walking around I could watch something, and I cannot suggest a game because it was fun to do something else in the meantime.
I wanted to give it a negative review and a 6 when I was halfway in the main game, but the rest of it lowered it to a:
3/10.
Strongly not suggested.

I have roughly 300 hours in this which includes time in the original.

This is one of the best open world RPGs on Steam, only overshadowed by Skyrim. While this game is not as big or dynamic as Skyrim, it's imo it's about as fun.

If you have played Fable, or the original God of War Games, KoA offers a like-minded hack and slash combo system. Melee attacks revolve around inputting button combos to perform devastating attacks. KoA has a huge emphasis on combat. You will spend the majority of your game time killing people and creatures in creative ways.

The class system is very diverse allowing you to essentially create your own class to an extent. You can be the traditional paladin or rogue, or go totally uncoventional and be a 2h barbarian who wears cloth uses frost magic, a spell casting mage that uses stealth and plate armor. Any build time is viable, but you will see people saying this or that is best. I would encourage you to try out your own build. I think koA’s combat is much better than Skyrim because it has more depth and it’s better visually. I’m going to try not to turn this into a Skyrim review, but I feel KoA has better animations in every aspect in regards to combat.

The biggest downsides to this game are the questing and world design. Questing does feel somewhat generic. And I tend to feel like skipping through most of the dialogue. I don’t even bother clicking the optional dialogue because it bores the shit out of me. And you will find many of the NPCs really just tell you the same exact thing in different ways. KoA feels like an MMO in design, because it was originally going to be one.

The world doesn’t feel very lived in or active like say, again, Skyrim does. You run around, occasionally find a quest in the wild, harvest reagents, enter dungeons, and find treasures. That’s about it really.

Last category is character customization. IMO it's acceptable because the characters don't look hideous. The male and female characters look very attractive and have nice enough faces that they're not so ugly to the point you want to alter every inch of their face. Both male and female characters are highly attractive. But the options are extremely limited, more limited than any other RPG. If you've ever played Destiny, that's how limited. Only like 5 faces to choose from, maybe like 5 beard options, you get the idea. My biggest complaint is the beards are not shared with the males. I cannot stand how the dark elves (Dokkalfar) only have one beard option (not counting goatee or mustaches). So I feel forced into playing Almain who have more variety. And unfortunately, there’s nearly zero mods for this game to change that.

So for the pros and cons:
Pros:
1. No traditional class system. You can for the most part be what you want.
2. GORGEOUS visuals. This game has held up incredibly well, probably thanks to the very vibrant and colorful environmental art style.
3. Open world to explore, not too linear, decent amount of stuff to find and things to do. (Re-reckonings world is also scaled to player now. Original was not).

Cons:
1. Quests are rather generic and kind of boring. I can’t stand sitting through all the dialogue options without getting the urge to skip. I only listen to the base quest objective and that’s all.
2. Some zones for the most part look the same. Especially the first half of the base map which is just one giant forest biome with slight differences in environment.
3. Limited character creation. If you’re someone who likes to tweak every little inch of the face, you’ll be highly disappointed. You do get to choose faces but they’re entirely presets. A personal note in this aspect, I find it funny you get to choose a preset at the start of customization. Because essentially, the entire customization system is basically one giant fucken preset. And the options are so limited it doesn’t make too much of a difference either way.

Verdict: 8/10 I think this is well worth the buy. I’m someone who enjoys really fluid and intense combat and this game gives precisely that. I personally think Skyrims combat is horse shit compared to this, there I said it. Like I said I didn’t want to do too much Skyrim talk in this review. Both games are amazing and excel in certain areas. I don’t think Skyrim is amazing in every aspect and that KoA does a couple things way better. It’s sad to me KoA was buried under Skyrims glory at launch. But I’m glad KoA has gotten significantly more attention over the years. And on a final note, KoA has forever become a part of my top 5 RPGs of all time. This will likely be a game I revisit every now and then throughout the years.

I played the original when in came out in 2012 and loved it. I kept trying to find something similar but never did so I was very happy when Re-Reckoning came out. I had a few problems at first with the came crashing, and I mean crashing HARD where my computer automatically restarted but after updating my video card AND turning off the Steam Overlay I haven't had a single crash.

I was concerned that all the DLC'S I had with the original game were gone but thankfully all the original gear and DLC'S are intact as well as new and improved gear just waiting for me at Gorhart!

As for any improvements...can't say I notice much except it is so nice that there is full controller support with this remake as the original did not have full controller support and using a keyboard and mouse was no where near as much fun as using the controller for this game.

I can only hope that we will continue to get more content down the road.

I adore this game and played it like crazy on the ps3,i heard this version has some bugs at release and i stupidly thought alot of the issues would be gone after a year and after they released a new full price expansion.

Ignoring the fact the game doesn't really feel improved upon at all from the original release,I was having fun playing rogue till i realized several of my attacks miss for seemingly no reason, rendering the class i enjoyed the most nearly unplayable. Which to my horror i found this was a bug reported a year ago, still not fixed.(At the time of writing this review) Absolutely unacceptable to me,so i cannot recommend buying this game in its current state unless your very willing to overlook year old game breaking bugs.

If these issues are ever fixed i will for sure change my recommendation.

Why did I think a game I didn't like the first time around would be better on round 2?

It isn't terrible, it is just bland with a mediocre story and repetitive gameplay.

Maybe ok on sale, hard pass at $40.

Buy at your own risk. The game is still great, but unlike the original, this version is prone to crashing when loading a save or quitting the game. And when it crashes, it crashes HARD right into a brick wall. Straight to the point where all you can do is reboot your pc.

I should have heeded the blaring red flag that's THQ Nordic on the game. They release games and then forget they exist. Almost never fixing them.

So as I started before, buy at your own risk.

I'll start with conclusions.
Do you have the original? Get this on sale. It does look nicer, there's a few extra items(from the DLC chest and throughout the game), some extra quests, but if you already have the old version, you aren't missing $20-30 worth of content. $10-15 or lower, if you really liked it, I'd say grab it and fall in love again.

Don't have the original? Why in the fuck not? Get this. Right now. Stop reading and fucking get this game. And don't expect to play anything else for a long time. This is easily one of the best underrated RPG's ever. Hell, one of the best, period. I'd even consider ranking it over the Elder Scrolls games, but I've settled on roughly equal ranking. I mean, technically, they aren't the same style of RPG.

Ridiculous lore, huge world, tons to do(including quests that you can't get until you beat the game), factions, awesome gear, pretty great class customization, interesting gameplay features, immersive... I cannot imagine anyone who likes RPGs and/or Fantasy not loving this.
Casual gamer? That's fine, easy is plenty easy.
Like combat that can keep you on your feet and require you to actually be somewhat proficient? It's not Dark Souls, at all, but it there is certainly a difference between hammering through and spamming an attack and actually dodging, blocking, timing, etc.

Seriously, get it any way it goes, if only to show your love for an old game brought back. Plus you do get achievements and cards off this release. If you're into that.

If you want more info, I have no doubt the other reviews on this release and the original can make it clear how amazing the game is(if you ignore the ones complaining about how this doesn't change much from the original, but these are the same people that would complain about an ESIII re-release if all they did was clean up the graphics and add a couple quests and items).

Dagger players, just know, the spiral attack is a bit, weird, at least it was when I first started this release. It seems fine a few levels into daggers later, but I don't know if it's a leveling thing, a bug I heard about, or what.

Fantastic Fantasy RPG with many ways to play and classes to choose from. Combat is really cool with fate mechanics. Story is also interesting but generic fantasy. Which is fine. I eat that sh1t up. Side quests are probably my favorite because it fleshes out the world. And there are a lot of cool characters to meet and places to explore. Hope they come out with a sequel.

Stylistically, I really like the Todd MacFarlane art style and while it is a fantasy world RPG, this one was a lot of fun. The Tarot card destiny perks, combat system, and character interactions were a lot of fun. Notably, I had this on the PS3, and experienced two game-breaking glitches. Neither glitch was triggered in this remaster, so I was able to finally complete the story. Overall, I'd say it's not reinventing the wheel, but it's still a fun ride.

is it worth it to get the remastered version ? YES !!!! - I played the Original and now I'm playing the remastered copy. People told me not to get the remaster if i already had the original, I am so Glad i did not listen to them. They told me its just a touch up on the textures and 4K support... i found out very quickly its a lot more than that, The camera issues are fixed, the movement of the character feels a lot smoother, combat also seems to feel better at targeting mobs, the UI is cleaner and a lot more pleasing on the eyes, and yes, the Graphics overall is more crisp and more detailed then the previous build, in fact it may be the same game, but i can definitely feel and see the improvements. I would HIGHLY recommend you get the new remastered version, an added bonus is that the expansion is coming out sometime and you'll be ready for it.

Pros and Cons, there are a thousand reviews talking about pros and cons... however i will say this, its a REALLY fun game, you can lose many many many hours playing this game.

Its a perfect re-make of the old school game. My father, who just passed away from cancer, considered this game as one of his favorites. So in his honor I bought re-reckoning and am playing through it again. I unbound my fate twenty times but I finally all might lol. Story is amazing. The combat is ok but gets too easy quick. The game lacks some of the quality of life improvements modern RPGS have and can be somewhat frustrating but its still pretty good. Worth any money you spend on it if you want a solid rpg with a world class story.

The Re-release version of the game is 99.9% identical to the original. I regret buying this when I could've just played the original I already owned.

The game itself was developed as an MMORPG but sometime during development was changed to be a single player adventure RPG. And it shows. The game is full of menial side quests, it's literally like leveling up a character in an MMO game, except without any of the good parts of an MMO.

Stay away from this game, it's a great example of something that's truly mediocre. 4/10

I've played the game years ago and now that I started playing again, not much has changed. No fix to old bugs, sometimes crashes, etc. I appreciate the re-release but I had hoped for an update in the game. The lore is great, the story telling is great, but we are limited to what the game gives us. I hope for a future update that there is more world building, expansions, more story to the character and the world. I enjoyed the game and will play it multiple times to really enjoy the lore. I’ll give this thumbs up because the game itself is great, but I hope for more content to be added and updates to bugs and crashes. Dev's please listen to the community, this game has a great potential. More love. -Kagura

I've played both the original and now the remastered/re-reckoned version and most recommendations for this game applies to both. There are literally hundreds of hours here of lore (some say even more), hours and hours of quests, vibrant and detailed visuals (more so in this version), and excellent voice characters, sounds, cues, and music - all fit the ambience and mood perfectly. The only downside is that a lot of the story telling is pretty linear, you can't stray too far off the path as it holds your hand. Nonetheless, character customizations is yours to play with a fitting style for most people present, and every which way between. Highly recommended, even at a lofty price.

Fun classic single player RPG. 20 hours in and map still looks huge. Tons of side quests. Main quest isn't anything special so far but does keep you interested. Combat is actually pretty fun and dynamic. Varied no-class build system. Pretty graphics.

Cons would be the oldschool mmo-like maps that take a bit away from the open-world feeling. The game is also very easy. Definitely start on Hard.

All in all, very enjoyable and a good way to wait for the big RPGs to come.

I can't focus on or finish a game to save my life sometimes, but this game is awesome. I didn't play the original (which means im not offset by the fact that the remaster looks almost similar) but when i picked this up on sale, its great. Doesn't try to go super in depth with builds, but enough to where you can indefinitely have your character however you want with replay-ability. Anyone who enjoys single player rpg's (as rare as they are now) should hit this up. If its still 40$ base its a little steep, but when it's on sale, I would 100% recommend.

I love the original, and true, on the surface, this game is identical to the original, in many ways, with only a minor graphic overhaul. But one issue that is persisant is, when they remade the game, they totally FUBAR'd the targeting system. Get ready for your attacks to pass under, around, through, and over half the hitboxes of half the enemies in the game. Get ready for sprites to be nearly impossible to hit, given their small, high hitbox. Get ready for humanoid enemies to break lockon every time they take half a step to the left, and I don't mean dodge, I mean every small movement causes your attacks to miss. Because what they seem to have done, is reduce your attack tracking to almost zero, which does not work well in a game where every attack you make is dependent upon auto-targeting, while leaving enemy tracking where it was, which is at a ridiculous level. If you play the game on normal, you might not notice. But on higher difficulties, where enemies hit like a freight train, it is frustrating. And it wasn't an issue in the original. All they had to do was overhaul the graphics, and leave the mechanics alone, but they couldn't even pull that off. This game's mechanical issues make me sure that the sequel that THQ nordic will surely make is going to be horribly flawed.

Ah so full of potential, good levelling system, fun story, lots of loot, side quests that give you bonuses at the end. So why don't I finish this game?

The combat. Lack of abilities? Nope, lots of those. Lack of weapons? There are chakrams in this game, so hell no. The problem being is that the combat was out of date even when this game was new! Every. single. enemy. will. STAGGER. you. From lowly boggarts to mighty Yotuns! No matter your level or epic heavy armour you will be staggard by the lightest hit. You and enemies are animation locked, so its difficult to interrupt your won attack and movements to respond, so there is no reward for quick reflexes. Same as your enemies, once they get their attacks going, they gotta finish them. You can counter, but can ONLY counter their INITIAL attack! Not if they are already half way through the attacks. These admittedly small issues create major breaks in combat rhythm, you can't build momentum or ever really feel powerful. Its just a headache.
Its all the more unfortunate as this game is very good, just let down by odd and dramatically out of date (even by its own time) combat design.

THQ Nordic released this with all your nostalgic desires in mind, bugs included. I’m putting as much effort into this review as I feel they did with this ‘Remaster’. I loved the potential of this IP when it was originally released. Now I dread what THQ would do with it.

P.S
If you are going to give attitude to customers concerned about the lack of info or updates on Steam, then don’t be shocked when those customers do not come back. Wasn’t even aimed at me, I was just looking for updates after months of waiting.

Fans of Fable and Oblivion will be right at home in this unique hybrid that stands on it's own two legs. The Story is rather generic high fantasy but the combat, exploration and loot make up most of the bulk of the gameplay and it's rather enjoyable. The leveling and progression is unique but nothing to write home about and I find myself playing the game in spurts more than straight binging but I chalk that up to the narrative not being all that engaging.

Still overall a very solid game and I hope the new developers really invest in and evolve the franchise.

This is one of my favourite RPG's. I played and finished the original game and was partway through playing a second time when I upgraded my computer. The new graphics card did not get along with the game despite me trying upgrades and different relolutions so I stopped playing. With the Re-Reckoning it plays very well - love the graphics upgrade. I didn't experience any bugs or gliches with the original game and haven't had any with Re-Reckoning so far. I highly recommend this game - I really like the world and story and the combat works well.

Can't believe i was missing this gem out of prejudice. Its a 3rd person RPG with total character customization (Something many others do not have) and it explores the world of the Fae (clearly the Fey from DnD and others) So its very magical, it has cool armor, very good combat and there are some nice mods to make it look even sharper. I will update once i'm done with it. But for now, be my guest and buy it!

I played KoA on original release. Holds a special memory for me as it was the first time I played an RPG and enjoyed it. I purchased Re-Reckoning without a moments thought.

Is it bug free? No... but I have not encountered anything that prevented me from completing the main game and both DLC's. The Fae chests are a bit of pain (they look VERY wrong)... but other than that, I have thoroughly enjoyed my playthrough.

Can't wait for the brand new DLC that is due!

I am sorry I cannot give this game a good review but I've encountered so many bug (shaking screen because of fateshifting bug, missing quest items or quest givers stuck in walls etc..) it completely ruined the game for me.
I have to create a new save every few minutes because at any time I can encounter a bug and have to reload an old save game.
The worst part is most of those bugs are old reported ones that are just ignored.

Kingdoms of Amalur is a good game and an excellent RPG. If you don't own it, you should buy it.

That said, if you already own KoA: Reckoning (the original) is the re-release better? Kinda. A handful of minor bugs get fixed at the cost of a lot of graphical glitches (and for some reason the main/pause menu GUI feels lower rez), but otherwise the game is the exact same. As of writing (5/14/21, 9 months after Re-Reckoning was released) the DLC has not yet appeared.

Short version: if you don't own the original version, buy this one, its great! If you do own the original version, don't buy this one, it's not yet worth the money.

Based in part on playing the original pretty extensively, the game never got a fair shake as the owner of the studio was playing financial shenanigans and had to compete with Skyrim on release. I agree with RPS that this is a perfect MMO for misanthropes. If having other PCs bunny-hopping across the landscape just annoys the nertz out of you, but you love the aesthetic and !/? quest structure of a large RPG, this is your game.

Kingdoms Of Amalur a franchises whose fate seems cursed and fraught with mismanagement and disappointment. This is a first class excellent rpg with amazing Combat wonderful world building and characters and some of the best rpg design of its time and even holds up today in those aspects.

But i can not agree with this remaster THQ nordic barely did anything to the game and slapped a new price tag on it and that is just a bloody shame that this game is still shackled by its past of the fall of its orginal developer the years of legal hell and more only to be given this half hearted remastering effort. The loot tables got fixed a bit and some textures look better and you have more camera options and a upcoming dlc of unknown quality given the effort of this remaster i expect nothing good so lets dig into why this remaster is so poor

First off they hardly changed the visuals Characters still looked dated visually model wise hair and expressions and animations. Draw distance is still poor and the overall quaility of lights and shadows are sub par against other remasters. It was moved to DX 11 which should result in better performance but we have sub 45 fps in some areas and lets not talk about the crashes that occur randomly. New bugs were introduced ontop of leaving old bugs in that had been i nthe game since the orginal developer collapsed.

I waited months after this remasters launch to give it another whirl and its just as broken as it was at launch and the devs have been mostly silent. This was a cash grab move pure and simple not a ounce of heart or love went into this remaster it pains me as a fan of this game to not recommend it but if you can find a copy of the Orginal game and play that it runs better it crashes less often and looks mostly the same do not feed this greedy lackluster effortless project.

i had hopes this series would be brought back to life but it seems this remaster is finally putting this franchise in its final grave. A sad end to what could of been a gold mine for thq had they put any ounce of effort into this remaster. Unlike our hero the fateless one this games fate is set in the weave and its a tragic tale one that ends here as far as i am concerned a great game shackled by a second developer that cares not for the series and a remaster that does not modernize the game in any major way that this game deserved.

An excellent underrated game with an awesome combat, a unique setting and a lot of content for the price.
It is held back only by the following things:
- The story is not bad but due to the filler badly paced.
- The game both breaks certain conventions yet at the same time can be quite stereotypical. This can be good or bad depending on your flavor.
- There is a lot of content, too much in fact that is repetitive. More than usual in rpgs I stopped reading explanations.
- The game picks up truly only after a while as you really need to pick up stuff to realize how much customisation is possible.
- This is more sandbox powertrip than balanced setpiece. You break the game easily if you dig deep into certain skills such crafting armor/weapons.

All in all well worth picking up.
At a discount a must have for an rpg fan.
The kind of rpg you pick up once in a while for a long stretch and then return to at your leisure.

Good zone out game for when ya don't wanna think too hard and just run from point A to point B and kill everything in between. There is a story but it wasn't gripping enough to remember. I'd really like to recommend this game to other players... but it just has too many bugs for a remastered version of the game. In the 4 hours I've played so far, I have had several crashes, encountered far too many quests that cannot be completed (most likely due to some scripting problem) and a handful of graphical clipping errors that shouldn't have existed in the first place.

The game would be great if it didn't crash in horribly terminal ways after hours of investment. On PS4, after 6 hours of play it crashed and corrupted all my save files. Now, on Steam, 3 hours in and it is back to crashing. Checked forums for solutions, but none seemed to work/apply. I really enjoyed this game and would love to play it, but it is not stable and probably should not have been released until it was further debugged.

A rich and detailed world with plenty of characters and quests that unfortunately suffers from being one of the easiest, least challenging games I have ever played. Even on the highest difficulty, it's insanely easy. The classes are also not satisfyingly different from each other.

Tons of piss-ant mobs that respawn behind you after you move around a couple corners. You can stun lock enemies that are much larger than you and hit them basically forever. The game even features the ability for your character to greatly slow down time (and simultaneously amplify their damage) to beat up on everything around you. The average enemies are so weak it's pointless to use against them, and it makes any boss or mini-boss so easy that I started thinking of it as the journalist bar.

You can make the game difficult by switching to the horrid blink-teleport instead of the dodge roll, not using any of the (very overpowered) magic, not using the time stop gimmick, and running around to gather every mob in the area to fight at the same time. But I would consider this a walking simulator with side quests. You can even run past every enemy that isn't quest-relevant to be killed. They won't chase you for very long.

The class system heavily reminds me of Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen, where you just get to pick a card when your stats reach a threshold. The cards just give you incremental stat increases, and the ones where the mage stat is relevant come with a really really bad blink-teleport-dodge instead of the dodge roll. It's not a very exciting progression system, as literally every skill tree is available to you (think mage, rogue, warrior trees.) They're also all actual copies of each other: branches to make the class's weapons do more damage/unlock moves- and the moves are all the same between classes when unlocked. Attack, pause, attack. Hold attack. Dodge and attack. No actual comboing involved.

If you read this page about the game and what it offers you will notice this line:

Improved graphical fidelity in Re-Reckoning.

That is all that was changed in this re-release. Not joking they couldn't even fix the original bugs.

When THQ grabbed this IP some were hoping for a sequel but instead no.

I would tell you to buy the original and download a better texture mod for way cheaper but they locked the old version out so enjoy paying $40 for a crap graphic mod now.

I have not had one crash or bugged quest. Level 32 with over 100 hours. I remember liking this game when it came out, and I enjoy it even more now. On par with Oblivion, Fable or Greedfall... The game really doesn't open up til about level 27, or after beating a faction quest line. If you like hack and slash rpg's then you're going to like this. And for everyone complaining, I'm playing on a pretty low spec rig and the graphics are still better than default Skyrim...

Here's what I've noticed that the game improves on:
1. Dialogue. The original title had issues with NPCs being so loud that their noise would interrupt the immersion of having a conversation. The fix that was implemented was to reduce ambient noise (background noise) during dialogue and then restore the ambient noise outside of discussion eg talking to the mayor of Gorhart Village with a loud moaning NPC and while the mayor is speaking the moans are quieter than when the mayor isn't speaking.
2. Graphics. FOV option, camera position option, camera distance option, all resolutions up to at least 4k UHD and super sampling. All without breaking the menu and you can even adjust the size of the HUD (this was the selling point for me).
3. Enemy levels increased. Enemies have higher minimum and maximum scaled levels, which may or may not be your jam, but it won't be a snooze fest to do most of the quests and some quests that would break because you're too powerful don't tend to break anymore.
4. Very hard difficulty added and it's, well it's not that hard, but I did have to use a couple potions in the tutorial, wolf packs and threshers are quite the pain in the ass now too.
5. The discussion board shows that November 2020 there were some bug fixes so the new owners of this IP are actively involved with the community.

Some bugs from the original remain according to the discussion boards, after playing the original almost 2 dozen times, I'm very happy with the re-reckoning.

Played the 2012 version on PS3, had over 175 hours invested and loved it so you can imagine my surprise and anticipation when a remaster was announced. Bought the FATE edition at full price on the first day and was appalled. The game was identical to it's 2012 counterpart with just a few better textures here and there.

Still decided to continue for the sake of nostalgia but the bugs led to crashes almost every 15 mins. I was lucky if I could have 45 mins of continuous game time.

Even after months, the game is susceptible to crashes rendering the whole experience as unenjoyable. It's disappointing as the potential this game had was immense.
The game is not a RE-RECKONING but rather a RE-RELEASE

First of all let me strongly highlight that this is aimed at the re-master and not the base game. I loved kingdoms of amalur and i strongly recommend it to any fans of 3rd person action rpgs. yes it's not perfect but i've played 100s of hours of it over the years and enjoyed them very much.

HOWEVER, i don't think that just because i loved the original game means i need to defend the re-master. Owners of the previous were given a 50% discount (plus an extra 10% if you bought it soon after release). And honestly even with that discount it still feels like paying money for a re-release. The release was very troubled. It soon became apparent that for whatever reasons (some people blame thqnordic, some just say its what happens when you release games to the larger audience of the world and move it outside of a smaller game studio of testers) the game had managed to acquire even more game breaking bugs than the original.

These bugs seem to be being worked on, and as the time of writing may even be gone. I only played around 20 hours of this game and Im shelving it until its in a stable more complete state. My own personal issues with the game were that i was looking forward to general quality of life improvements and a harder game mode. But some of the quality of life improvements that were advertised still do not appear to be in the game (one i specifically wanted was a way to remove certain quest items that could be trapped in your inventory. a LIMITED inventory) The harder mode seemed to just be a toggle that made enemies super tanky and increase the damage the player takes.

This might seem trivial to some people but remember this is a re-release. Yes it's also a re-master but its still the same game with the same content. Nothing new will be added before the dlc next year. And the fact that it shipped in a very buggy and broken form, lots of fans were disgruntled at the minimal graphical changes (this was the least important part for me of the re-master), and the team involved seem to be split between working on this new dlc and making sure the base game is bug free and slowly trying to follow through with some of their other promises. So it's going to take months in my opinion.

Bottom line, and this is just my opinion. If you loved amalur and fancy re-visiting. Wait a year and pick this up on sale when its properly finished, polished and has the dlc. Otherwise you're just getting a very similar experience to the first 2012 release of the game that looks a LITTLE better, and with potentially more bugs.

If you have never played amalur, and don't want to get the original on origins, then get this version of the game on sale and pay the price you'd have paid for it back in 2012. So about £30 where I'm from. It might also be worth waiting a while for it to be truly finished. Like plenty of other games these days, this released in a pseudo-beta form and still needed polished and finished the last time I checked.

The original game though, that has nothing to do with thqnordic, is a great game and if you ever get a chance you should definitely play it if you're a fan of 3rd person rpgs like fable.

It's a bit old graphics wise but there are literally dozens of compelling quests. Combat is fluid and rewarding 3rd person using a controller. Crafting is there but it's more or less optional. A very good take on the Fantasy genre. Lots of Lore packed in and i don't think I'm even 25% through. Overall stunning visuals despite the remastered graphics aspect.

Well...it was giving this a thumbs down. Because don't get me wrong, this is an amazing game itself. However, what I really don't like, and the main cause of the thumbs down is that it's a huge money grab. They didn't add any new content, did barely any graphics overhauls (if at all), and jacked up the price. If my memory serves, you could buy this game and all the DLC by spending 20 bucks. However, with this, it's 40 dollars, doubling the price for a game that they released in the mid 2000s! DO NOT BUY. The only exception is if you've never played it, because this is the only edition you can get right now legally. Anywho, thanks for reading! :D

So, I absolutely love this game. I played the original, and I was happy to pay again for slightly improved graphics and new content down the road.

However, I started experiencing crashes early in the game. They were usually a few hours apart so it was manageable. Now, however, some 30 hours into the game it has gotten to the point that it's crashing every few minutes, making the game impossible to play or progress. Once they get these excessive crashing issues squared away I have no problem recommending the game. It's a great story and I enjoy the leveling and combat system.

Once the bugs are addressed and the performance of the game becomes more reliable. I will change my recommendation.

I don't know what people were expecting. I guess they thought they will get RE2 treatment. Here are some things that were altered:

  • - Improved graphical fidelity ( more grass, better shadows, lighting, textures etc.)
  • - Zones (enemies, drops, chests) now Auto Scale to your Level EVERY time you enter them, in the original they locked to your level the first time you entered them and stayed that way.
  • - New Difficulty Level
  • - Zones adjust per Difficulty. Enemies gain more HP, Damage, Attack chains. Zones min/max levels adjusts per Difficulty as well.
  • - Loot now leans towards your skills. Going a Bow Finesse Build you will see more Medium Armour, Bows, etc.
  • - Camera Options allow you to adjust the camera's height and distance from the player.
  • - New Resolutions and Ultra Wide support.
  • - HUD adjustments
  • - FoV Slider
  • - In the original you could map 4 abilities on a Controller and 10 on a Keyboard. Now you can do 8 on the Controller.
  • - Minor DLCs are back in the game (Mass Effect Armor etc.), with one big DLC on the way, and no more of that EA account and key number crap.
  • - While they are not putting out Modding Tools for the game, they are making it easier for modders to access and alter data in the game.
I think people are mostly pissed that they didn't get this remaster for free if they own the original. I own the original on origin and steam and by buying the fate edition for 22 I still think I got my money's worth. It all depends on your value of money. If you don't have original owner's discount, but you played it before (origin, consoles) then I would wait for sale. If you are new player, I would say, buy it, I think it is worth. Just remember, at it's core this is game from 2012. You may find some mechanics or gameplay decisions that are outdated by today's standards. Borderless Windowed has better performance than fullscreen, at least on my system. Anisotropic filtering doesn't work in the game, you have to force it with nvidia control panel for now. I will not play this right away, I will play it when the new dlc comes out. I played it a lot of times already.
