Dunkelheit umgibt dich, während du still im Rampenlicht stehst.

Layers of Fear 1 fand ich echt ganz cool, also ran an Teil 2.

Puppen, Wahnvorstellungen, Belanglosigkeit

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2391676402

Gameplay
Laufen.
( Try and error - Yay )

Let's be frank, the second part is nowhere near the predecessor masterpiece, which is my all time favorite horror game. But that doesn't mean the game is necessarily awful. Spectacular imagery, a haunting ambiance, and stunning figure-shifting surroundings are the reasons it is still worth playing.

A little disappointing compared to the first game, but it's not bad. The story does get a little... Pretentious, I wanna say? It tries too hard to be complex, symbolic, and just ends up being too complex.

Enjoyed the first Layer of Fear. It had great atmosphere and a few nice scares. You could follow the story and feel the pain and torment the family were going through as the father descended into madness. I loved every minute of it and replayed it a few times. This game is nothing like the original and should have been called DOORS. So many doors. I've tried to play this through to the end but it's so boring. You just keep going through door after door after door. There are a few scares but most of the time you open a door then maybe another door, then you get a puzzle or two, then more doors. There is no atmosphere with this game compared to the first. It's confusing and boring and that's it. Get the original game and have fun. Get this game and prepare to be very disappointed. Did I mention It's boring.

Bloober has some really good developers on board. I just finished Act 2 and this game is a winner for me. I saw other reviews saying it was boring and a walking simulator. I wonder if they played the 1st game, because it certainly was not call of duty. The moody atmosphere and slow fall into madness is quite brilliant. What bloober does with visual tricks is amazing.

The game makes you literally not want to turn around and face your fears. Clever imagery has you feeling quite uneasy throughout. What starts as a beautifully rendered ship slowly becomes a rotten horror infested coffin. I just don't understand how their games can make me feel this paranoid. Observer is one of the greatest horror games I have ever played. Layers of Fear 1 was an amazing follow up. This is its own monster, much more ambitious in story and scope than LoF 1.

The medium and blair witch were very bad games to me. I hope bloober can continue to make stuff like this. As a Horror fan they made 3 masterpieces. I will finish this game even though it hurts to play lol in a good way. Only bug I encountered was not getting achievements until I passed Act 1, but I don't play games for achievements so not a big deal. Also it looks very very good.

Mannequins and rotten food jump scares just don't tickle my scary bone, and the black and white sections were 1,000 times more frustrating than they were 'artful'.
The first Layers of Fear is an absolute classic.
The sequel is an absolute pile.
My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.

I'm not a big fan of Bloober Team's particular brand of walking sim horror. I don't have any objection to walking sims per se. I love Gone Home and Edith Finch. But both Layers of Fear games (to me) are the worst kind of walking sim: just walking through a set of hallways and having bits of narrative handed to me without having to put any real work or thought into it.

Worse yet, Bloober only has a handful of tricks in its bag, and they get repeated a lot. Between the first Layers of Fear and Blair Witch, I didn't feel like there was anything in this sequel that I hadn't seen before.

Creepy, and not just jump scares! Small puzzles periodically that are overall simple to figure out, but occur during more scary moments. Enjoyed this one even more than the original. Storyline very engaging and creepy! Great for someone who likes scary movies, but doesn't want a game that is constant chase scenes/hiding from a murderer as many horror games are. The creep factor is in the ambiance and the story itself, with puzzles to solve built in.

[5/10 ⭐]

I'm a big fan of the original Layers of Fear so I was
looking forward to playing this.

Things I loved about the game:
⌑ Atmosphere
⌑ Artstyle
⌑ Music
--
⌑ Story - CONFUSING.
.. maybe I'm just braindead but I was confused
throughout the entire playthrough and the sudden
ending left me even more confused.

Doesn't have replay value to me.
If you like good looking games, get it but besides that
I really do not recommend it.

Boring and disappointing. Nothing like the original. It's basically a walking sim/horror game on rails. I love walking sims but there's no real exploration, you walk one way then see something, turn around and walk back the way you came so things change but it's really just a boring mess.

Do yourself a favor and give this a pass.

This one is better then the first game, gave that one a negative review.

This is a story about an actor who has to play different roles on a ship. Graphics , sounds and voice acting are decent enough.

It could still be considered a walking sim with some minor puzzles and chase scenes, but when you take your time and read the story it makes for an intresting game.

Recommended.

Like many of Bloober's games, Layers of Fear 2 thinks it is way scarier and thought provoking than it actually is. It's all style and no substance, and the most impressive set pieces are all derivative and referential to better works of fiction. It's also just not scary, and the few scares it does deliver rely on cheap jump scares.

It's rare I bother to leave a negative review, or leave a game unfinished, but having just uninstalled the game partway through Act II, I had to say something. This game has buckets of potential, especially when you consider how great its predecessor was. I bought this game without hesitation because I enjoyed the first so much, so I had high hopes.

I found that I would force myself to play this game in little segments to achieve completion. I did not enjoy playing it at all. I'm all for abstract art games, but this almost felt like it was designed to be inaccessible and disorientating way beyond the point of fun. I had no idea what was going on, I could barely see, and I had to frequently refer to a walkthrough video to get around the frustration of playing sections over and over. The controls were not particularly responsive for me; many's the time I thought I couldn't open a door, only to have to go back there and discover that it just didn't like the way i moved my cursor.

If you're not a fan of chase scenes, avoid this game entirely! I'm not keen on them, but don't mind the odd one or two as long as there are other more enjoyable gameplay mechanics to make up for them.
This game was swimming in them. The chases would often be accompanied by a music cue, which played so often that I never knew whether to run or if I could actually look around and try to figure out what on earth was going on.
I really did want to enjoy this. While it looks impressive and contains innovative effects, it was difficult to follow and easy to miss huge chunks of the game. The feeling of annoyance soon overtook the genuine initial feeling of fear.

Honestly quite disappointed. Played the first game on multiple systems to completion on Switch, Xbox and pc and fell in love with it. I've only played about an hour and a half but that's all I need to tell you this isn't no where near the first games standards. I found myself honestly quite bored and wondered when the super scary parts were going to come in but it's always like it's starting to go up the scary hill but it ends up being too steep so you slide back down. Not a horrible game to be fair but if you play the first game and go back to this you'll feel a bit disappointed I wouldn't pay more than $10 for this game so wait for a sale.

KitKat Reviews #17

Layers Of Fear 2

Game Plot:

The cameras are all focused on you, the center of the scene. Not just in character, you are the character. The part to play is singularly yours. Written just for you. You are met with silence. No barking orders from the director. No call to action that you need to become this version of yourself. The demand to act fills your mind, but the script pages hold no words.
Your past has helped to mold you into what you are, forced upon you the skills required to hone your craft. That same past has scraped deep furrowing scars into you, not on the outside where the world can see, but in a place buried so deep within that it has become shapeless. You push those memories down but let the experiences drive you into who, or what, you must play.
Darkness surrounds as you stand silently in the spotlight, the only sounds to be heard over your heartbeat are the distant breaking of waves against the hull and the sound of cameras pointed in your direction preserving this moment for eternity.
A deep and commanding voice rises from the distance. Act.
What part will you play?

Like the previous work, Layers of Fear 2 has a top-level horror atmosphere rendering. Compared with the previous generation U3D engine, it has a qualitative leap in the picture and physical texture.
Compared with the first generation, there are fewer horror elements and more plot elements, even involving philosophy; the picture quality is greatly improved (pleasing to the eye); the first generation middle-level cabinets and there are few plot props canceled, there are fewer cabinets and most of them can open plot props such as text.
Layers of Fear 1 is only 2GB in size, Layers of Fear 2 has a 22GB game file, and a sense of patina in the first generation of screens has also disappeared.

Layers of Fear is one of my favourite horror games. I regard it as a masterpiece of game design and a great example of how good level design and subtlety can be used to tell compelling stories. It also shows that good horror can be found in simple concepts and scenarios grounded in the real world.

But with Layers of Fear 2, I came out feeling disappointed. Like it's predecessor, it is a walking simulator that uses clever level design and writing to tell a compelling story and provide fun and riveting gameplay. Yet, it also feels like a step backwards, in some areas more than others.

Level Design

For players not familiar with the Layers games, a key gameplay mechanic is non-euclidean level design - environments that are inconsistent with reality in some manner. For example, large rooms within small containers, entire rooms changing when the player turns their back or doors disappearing and appearing at will. When used correctly, it works well as both a good gameplay mechanic and a good setpiece, as long as a balance is struck between the two.

Layers 2 employs all the tricks from its predecessor, whilst putting a fresh twist on them in order to make them feel fresh. To a degree, this works - but as with Layers 1, the novelty begins to wear off with the more abstract levels in the later part of the game. I can't tell if I was getting bored of the game by this stage, or if I subconsciously knew what to expect given I had played the first game so much.
On the other hand, Layers 2 eases the player into this style of level design gently, stalling a lot of the horror aspects in favour of building backstory first. This is in contrast to the first game, which dumped the player in at the deep end.

Monsters

Oddly, Layers 2 scrptied sequences with monsters that can kill you. This is a first as none of the other games had this feature. It doesn't particularly blend well with the Layers formula, which relies more on narrative and environmental setpieces to drive the horror. Still, it is an interesting concept which is let down by the bizarre implementation.

By the way, it is referred to as 'the monster' because it doesn't have a name. There are hints that it may be symbolic of something from James' past, but either way it's not particularly relevant.

This thing appears in certain places, charges you at high speed and insta-kills you. If you are like me, you most likely will not even recognise it as a threat the first time round until you die to it.
It also drives some chase sequences - one involves walking down a corridor closing doors behind you, and the other involves walking in circles through a maze until something happens and it leaves. These feel oddly paced within the game, and overall are more of an annoyance.
The game does have a safe mode which I actually recommend, as it removes the penalty of death. However, it also removes the monster from the level if it catches you. This makes chase sequences even more bizarre - there's no monster yet the game still acts as if there is. It feels like a very lazy implementation of safe mode, compared to other games such as Soma. It overall feels like it exists because someone at Bloober really wanted a monster, whether or not it actually fitted.

Story

The real sin, however, is with the story. Obvious spoilers ahead for both Layers games.

Like the first game, the story is told via flashbacks. Unlike the first game, however, there is a lot more voice acting. The story is now no longer limited to flashbacks, but forms a narration with different characters as you move through the level, voiced by an amazing and talented cast including the great Tony Todd as The Director. I can't fault the actors as they do an excellent job portraying this brainfart of a narrative.

I won't go into full details due to length constraints, but here's a summary: The player assumes the role of James, a method actor who is cast by 'The Director' in a film shot entirely aboard an ocean liner. In Jame's past
his mother died giving birth to him, for which he was abused by his father. His only friend in life was Lily, his sister. The siblings eventually ran away aboard a cruise ship - similar to the one James is on in the present. They hide and inadvertently cause harsh rationing when crew notice food going missing. This causes the food to rot in the ship's hold, despite the fact that most trans-atlantic voyages took only around 4-5 days in the 1920s but we need some sort of artificial contrivance so let's not get pedantic.
Now this does seem like a compelling story so far, right? I was invested in this and I was interested to see where it led. But from the middle of the game onwards, things get a bit stupid.
Back on the ship the crew and passengers are on the verge on mutiny due to the lack of food. Lily leaves James temporarily to try and get food and James, unable to cope for less than five minutes, starts talking to the rats. It is then an entity contacts him - it's unclear if this is real or a hallucination, but it convinces him that Lily has abandoned him for good and that he's failure at life. Oh, my sister who saved me and defends me went to get food for me? Huh, I guess she never really cared about me.
Anyway, this entity is the Rat Queen. Do you remember that rat version of Lady with an Ermine in the first game that became one of the most popular setpieces in the game? That is now an actual in-universe eldritch abomination. This seems like good lore expansion, except it utterly breaks the lore. Layers 2 cryptically hints towards the Rat Queen seducing people, then driving them mad to the point of death.
It never outright states it, but it is implied that this entity is the reason behind The Painter's madness in the first game, given this exposition and the exact same painting appearing in both games.

This changes the entire context of the lore so badly that it retroactively ruins the first game. As I stated in my Layers 1 and Inheritance reviews, Bloober's drive behind writing the games was relatability - that this could happen to anyone and it is still somewhat grounded in realism. The main horror in the narrative was slowly realising that what we saw was the manifestation of a broken mind, a mind afflicted by PTSD, narcissism, selfishness, grief, and anger. Then came the hints that because of this The Painter is an unreliable narrator, and open to interpretation. The endings are all equally plausible, and the game leaves it up to the player to interpret these - was he a selfish, narcissistic man or a man broken by the misfortune in his life? Although there are conditions to unlock each ending, of course, the answer to the previous question will most likely shape the player's view of the endings.
The intrigue and pacing of the story is destroyed by the idea that a spooky space rat lady is behind the madness. Nothing else matters in that story now, all semblance of nuance is lost. None of the plot points matter, the slow decline into madness doesn't matter, nothing is impactful any more because of ooga booga space rats.

Conclusion

Layers of Fear 2 isn't necessarily a bad game. It still contains enough formula to make it a recognisable Layers game. On a gameplay level it is a downgrade from the first game in some areas but still remains enjoyable to play, at least for the first 3 acts. Layers 2's greatest weakness is it's story, in which it just has a massive stroke halfway through and develops an entirely different personality. The game also has an amazing soundtrack, courtesy of Arkadiusz Reikowski and Penelopa Willmann-Szynalik.

I will not recommend this game based on my own views, but I do recognise that my criticisms are very targeted in specific areas of the game. Still, I'd recommend picking it up for the first half anyway or if you like the first game and don't mind a wonky story.

Reels of Fear

Despite the number present right there in the title, Layers of Fear 2 is a completely separate story. The first game invited the player to a journey into a shattered mind of a painter as he attempted to create his masterpiece. A gradually revealed tragic background of the painter combined with increasingly disturbing choice of painting utensils, created a decent atmosphere, if not a particularly scary horror. For those who enjoyed the first game, I do have good news - Layers of Fear 2 is in essence more of the same. On that note, where the first game revolved around paintings, the second one tries to give a fresh spin on the formula by entering the world of films. This time around, the player gets to embody a persona of method actor abroad a luxurious liner – turned into extravagant film set. What follows is another venture into a broken psyche, filled with delightfully delirious visuals and mannequins. Lots and lots of mannequins.

Fool me twice
Being what the developers called a “psychological horror”, both LoF games are in essence running simulators. The gameplay elements are kept to the minimum, this title instead relies on visuals and narrative to keep the player engaged. Such premise is not outright bad, however it places Layers of Fear 2 in a precarious position – you can’t tell the same story twice and expect it to make remotely similar impact. Admittedly, Layers of Fear 2 in some ways is an evolution of the ideas present in the first game. On the other hand, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that the innocent filming session quickly becomes a gateway into protagonist’s past. It also doesn’t take a huge leap of logic to deduce that character’s backstory wasn’t one filled with cuddles and puppies.

Repetitive story aside, Layers of Fear 2 soundly delivers what is easily the strongest aspect of the series – abstract visuals. Bloober Team excels at creating visions of utter delirium. Instead of cursed paintings from the first game occasionally bleeding into reality, now the entire environment is warped. Repeatedly throughout the game, the player literally enters the film reel causing the colours to shift into black and white. On other times, there are dreamy sequences defined by blurry vision and oversaturated colours. Layers of Fear 2 keeps juggling the visual styles, throwing in multiple film references for a good measure. Given how many abstract scenes are in the game it’s often a stretch to give them meaning, nonetheless they look impressive.

Tower of Babel
Protagonist’s journey into the eerily empty cruise liner, populated exclusively by copious amounts of mannequins starts very strong. The game keeps shifting between fiction and reality in such a manner that while it’s obvious not all we see is real, some of it certainly is. The story quickly becomes introspective, yet it stays deliberately vague – do we truly explore the character’s past or is it merely a part of actor’s trade, building yet another character? All the while, the tension slowly rises with eerie encounters increasing in volume, along with appearance of misshapen monstrosity able to kill the player should it catch up. Contrary to the first game, you can die in Layers of Fear 2. Furthermore each part of the game presents the player with a character-defining choice, that will determine the ending. It’s a major improvement, as now the game has a better defined sense of urgency and clear rules regarding the finale, instead of “follow the internet guide with vague nonsense for single extra scene in the closing animation” that the first game did. Unfortunately, for all the curious build-up in the rough first half of the game it just drops the ball in the second one.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2389804798]
It’s high time to address why the second game is rated worse than its predecessor. Frankly, I cannot get into too many details as that would require covering the entire story, major spoilers included. Alas, take my word for it – Layers of Fear 2 feels like whoever wrote the script had an aneurysm mid-way and there weren’t any notes left for the unfortunate successor. At later stages, the game loses balance that built up tension in the opening acts. The title suddenly plunges entirely into fiction, while also essentially removing puzzles and monster presence. The film references become painfully overt and do not contribute to the story in any way, instead adding further confusion to already vague narrative. The developers seemingly discard all restraints, focusing exclusively on creating abstract scenery. In consequence, the story that used to drive the player forward by large falls apart at this point. Not a best conclusion for a narrative-driven title.

Delusions of grandeur
Despite being technically an evolution in almost every regard when compared to the first game, Layers of Fear 2 is ultimately rather disappointing. It’s a narrative-driven horror, which is not very scary and has a mediocre story. I daresay that the developers were trying too hard when pursuing the artistic angle, with the rest of this title ending up neglected in the process. This is probably where the game’s biggest crime stems from - especially at later stages, it becomes too abstract and creates a sense of detachment. As a result, the immersion breaks and any sense of fear or suspense disappears along with it. While at times undeniably creepy, Layers of Fear 2 simply fails to maintain the tension.

To somewhat sweeten the deal, Layers of Fear 2 has a solid NG+ mode allowing the player to easily hunt for the achievements and explore alternative choices. While admittedly underwhelming as a whole, this title has undeniably impressive visuals. If you are a fan of the first LoF or are willing to play a game for the sights alone, you can probably give LoF 2 a chance, although I would recommend getting it on sale.

First of all you need patience, don't be too fast.

Like the first LoF, you need to read letters and find objects to understand the story what happens with the people's.

-In this game there are not so many jumpscares like the first one.
But you have to play it by yourself, maybe its scary for you but not for me. Like the 1st LoF was.

The 1st game was Art. The 2nd is going about movies.
It was funny to play in different movies.
And how they create the movies with mannequins. XD.

My positive about this game was:
- Good story
- The idea of old movies
- Funny puzzles
- The mannequins
- A lot of collectible items with a
story.

Negative:

- Not so many jumps scares than
the 1st LoF. But maybe it is
scary enough for you ;)
- The first 2 Acts was fun but
after that, the Monster is not ..... (Don't want to spoil about it)

Overall, if you liked the first LoF, buy the 2nd for a lower price like 15 or 10 euro

On one hand, this is similar to first game. On other.. let's me be straight. For me, it was struggling, almost whole time. Story didn't touch me and in parts when I wasn't pursued by monster I suffered from very slowing storytelling. For comparison, first game could be beaten in something about two hours (here it took four, I tried to make it quick). And there wasn't any moment when I wanted to stop.
Second part is more flash-y, has more creaking sounds, its four acts (in fact five, but last one is short) are long and filled with information you couldn't understand at early stage.
I get only one ending and I don't think I could bare another playthrough.

The first game was a lovely masterpiece that gave me more depth of how amazing and beautiful a horror game could be, anyway forward now i decide to buy it since i have nothing admirable in my day to day life, the game overall is ok. that being said the graphic are nice but when comes to story it lacks so much , the story was dry and the jump scares get boring after the first few. its still a good game but it could been better, sadly just adds to my horror game list of what coulda been a great game. I havent finished it yet, since im taking my time with it , but i can sense how the ending going.

This game was fantastic and the creep factor was 10/10. I might have screamed a few times... The first game was great but the devs really upped their game here. A few things I loved: they don't spoon feed the story to you, they give you glimpses and trust their players to be smart enough to figure it out; you never know what to expect- turn around and check behind you and suddenly the scenery has completely changed; and of course, the mannequins. I get chills thinking about them. Highly recommend!

I wasn’t going to give Layers of fear another chance because the first game was kinda boring. But I’m glad I did. Even though many people don’t like the sequel that much, I’d say this is even better. The atmosphere was indeed more memorable in the first one, but the second surpassed it in terms of many other aspects such as graphics, setting, length, and scares (more traditional and effective). I get it why people are fond of the first one but it wasn’t exactly to my taste. No horror game is actually scary if you know you can’t die in it. The first game numbed me early on – on the contrary, Layers of fear 2 managed to keep me on edge the entire time. It was more than just opening every drawer or door, and the interactive objects were more various. When you know that death is a real possibility, you become much more wary of your movements and jump at the slightest noise. On top of that, the cramped environment left me struggling with claustrophobia since no one can tell when the monster appears. The good thing is that the second game still retained the elements typical of this series but making it more unique and spooky. The minus for me was the obscure storyline. But anyway, I really love this one!

I'll be honest. The jumpscare in this game are ON POINT. They worked really well on me. No cheesy ones. The graphics and the atmosphere is excellent. An upgrade from the first one for sure. The gameplay is a little bit longer too. The only thing I didn't like is the fact that the story is a bit difficult to understand. I had to read an explanation after completing the game in order to fill some blanks that I had. In general, definitely try it out with good headphones in a dark room - you won't regret it.

Layers of Fear 2 is a first-person horror walking simulator.
The player takes control of a Hollywood actor who follows the call of a director to take on the lead role in a film shot aboard an ocean liner...
The story is not as good as it was in the first Layers of Fear game and can be confusing at times.
Graphics and sounds are great.
The duration is around 5 hours.
It is not as good as its predecessor and far less scary but overall still not a bad game. If you like horror walking simulator games and have played everything else you can give Layers of Fear 2 a try if it is on sale.

Sounds 9/10
Graphics 9/10
Gameplay 5/10
Atmosphere 8/10

If you are a fan of the first Layers of Fear game, then I would recommend giving this a shot. With that being said, Layers of Fear 2 is underwhelming compared to this first.

Here are some things that its got going for it:
*Great Soundtrack
*Amazing Graphics
*Puzzles are interesting, and it is an area that lacked in the first
*Eerie Environment

Things the game missed on:
*Story isn't nearly as good as the first, and can be confusing at times.
* Character development/Protagonist is not as interesting.
*Although there are multiple ending, I personally did not like the endings available.

Overall I'd rate it a 6.5 out of 10. If you like Horror games, and like walking simulators...then you'll probably enjoy it. I'd still pay for it at 50% off, and not the full price. Hope this helps!

Just finished this game and here is what i think:
I give high points to the atmosphere of being on a ship, some sections really messed with my head and kept me on edge for jump scares, Story was confusing in some parts until near the end.

I will say it was worth playing even though it didn't compare to the first Layers Of Fear, still enjoyable if you want a few scares :)

What I like:
- Art direction
- Visuals
- Sound Design
- Gameplay
- Story telling

What I dislike
- Some parts of the game are confusing, I'd often get lost not knowing how to progress (happened 2 or 3 times during 4 hours of play)
- Some aspets of the camera shaking & colours made me dizzy at some point, doesn't happen throughout the whole game though. (First time encountering dizziness from playing games)

5 častí miernej dávky hororovej scény, so zaújmavým, aj keď ťažko pochopitelným príbehom, s potrebnou miernou dávkou logického myslenia.

I'm giving this a thumbs up this time, but I wish I had a neutral choice. It was more interesting and engaging than the first Layers of Fear, but only because they added the challenge of the monsters. Well, that's not entirely true since the story line was more interesting and easy to follow this time also. I do have to give the game kudos for graphics, they were nicely done. Atmosphere I didn't feel always followed the story line, so take off a point for that. It's an ok game. I wouldn't highly recommend it, but I wouldn't say it was a total waste either.

Layers of Fear 2 is a really good title with astonishing sound design and visuals that at first seem quite chaotically mismatched between the chapters. But as I give it more thought and analysis, I understand and really like the direction this game is going.

Much like in first layers, we play as a troubled, artistic soul with the haunted house setting replaced with a cruise ship. The claustrophobic atmosphere is really nicely done, and unlike the first game, this one actually has some dangers awaiting us on the journey (now it's an optional thing apparently)

And while I genuinely love the game and think the story and secrets are great, I'm not sure I like the way it's presented on the first playthrough. I'm a bit of a completionist so replaying games for achievements and endings is my cup of tea. But if you want to play this game just once, I'm pretty sure you're going to feel really confused with this game.. and I think it's this game's biggest flaw.

Thank god it has changeable keybinds though :P (unlike Blair Witch)

I rate it 8/10.. you almost had it, Bloober ;)

I really enjoyed the game, although it is quite a bit different from the first one.
While some are saying that the previous one was much better, I must disagree, and let me tell you why.

The story here is in fact different in many ways, but I really wouldn't say in a bad way. The general idea still follows the main flow of artist that's struggling to achieve something spectacular in his career, and unlike 1st game that's not so obvious.
What this game, and pretty much all of the games from this developer, achieves is a stunning atmosphere with some really unique and amazing visual effects. Sometimes it might feel chaotic, but I think that perfectly represents the feeling and thinking of the artist going through all this.

So in conclusion, the game still feels like it should, it's just that the story itself is not that obvious, and the steps taken to show the thinking and experiences of actor, trying to perfect his/her character, are really amazing. So I'd recommend this game to anyone who enjoyed the first one, or any other game from same developers, but I'd also recommend that you approach it with open mind and don't expect exactly the same experience as the 1st game.

Slow burn to brilliance ***** (5 stars) I almost gave up on this game at the start, because it is a very slow burn and you really have to wait till chapter 2 or 3 to get the brilliance of the game... but I'm glad I did, because chapters 3 and 4 (there are 5 chapters) are worth the wait... and I really mean that... so hang in there, persist and it will be worth it... the sheer choice and overall amount of colours and effects and how they use them, (what I'm saying really doesn't bring justice to how they use colours in this game) is really put to use in this game with a brilliant suspensefull sound plus to mention the best voiceover in the game Mr Tony Todd (the original Candyman)... I thought the makers of the game choosing Tony was an epic choice (they even have a little Easter Egg in the game in respect to the Candyman movie of the 90's)... his voice really brings chills to the game... If I was to describe what this game was like I'd say a cross between Twin Peaks / The Shining / and Alice in Wonderland (a nightmare version at that) would be touching at the seams... and don't even get me started on mannequins... you'll never look at a mannequin the same way again... I mean seriously the creators of this game have either had a bad incident with a mannequin or have seriously deluded messed up thoughts about mannequins... when you play the game, you'll know exactly what I mean... and they really do use the whole messed up mannerquin thing to full use... there is no point in comparing this game to the first, because really it stands on it's own and is it's own thing... as I noticed with reviews on this game people comparing it to the first game... it's unfair for starters, and you wouldn't want it to be like the first game anyway... another thing about reviews on this game people were saying you keep dying all the time because of ghosts and monsters... well at the start in the menu you actually get to choose that option (and they do tell you in that option that you can die) or Safe Mode.. I chose Safemode, and I had no problem with the game... some people rush in and don't read things correctly... as for rating I really wanted to give it an 8 out of 10 but it's going to be a 7 for these 3 reasons... 1 point off for really slow start and burn, and can really put people off playing it through... 2nd point off for lack of explanation... through the game you make choices (that actually affect the endings of the game, there are 3 endings).. it doesn't explain this at all, and I thought it was just normal play through the game.. so it would've been nice to know at those stages, that your choice is an actual dealmaker / breaker... 3rd and last point off is for the endings... I've seen all 3 and they really don't make sense and are really up to personal interpretation... but don't let that turn you off the game at all, that is a small part and why I only took off 3 points... and for parts 3 and 4 is where the game really shines and is at sheer brilliance... all the choice and changes and effects and vibrancy of colours are just the standout with the help of the music that makes it all shine and worth it... so don't just look at the game... BUY IT!!!!

Feels like another horror game made form people who don't like horror games. Graphics are visually stunning in some parts. Some of the animation, Stylized, however ends up looking a bit goofy. I did enjoy the visuals but fell flat on the spookums. If your not big into horror might be something you'd like if your interested in dipping your toe into the genre. For hardcore horror fans not so much.

In Layers of Fear 2 the player is a Hollywood actor who's going to have a lead role in a movie shot aboard a ship. It's a psychological horror game in which you explore the ship to gather information and solve puzzles. In some parts of the game you're also being chased by an entity that can kill you. I didn't like the chase scenes personally, but luckily there's a safe mode in which you can't die and just enjoy the story. And the story is the most complex part of the game. It's really hard to interpret what developer Bloober Team wants to tell you. The graphics are great and a big step up from the first game. The sound is also very good. If you like horror-themed walking simulators with a complex story, I can definitely recommend Layers of Fear 2, although I think the first game is better.

Score: 7.5/10

Layers of Fear 2 needs to be considered as a standalone since it has nothing to do with the first that i highly recommend.
The atmosphere is nice though and it runs smooth.
Gameplay is different from the first game, where you still explore, but there are some spirits or monsters that will make the player run to avoid an inevitable death.
This is in my opinion an element that doesnt fit well in this game, leaving the player confused on the atmosfphere.
Buy this game on sale.
Do not buy it if you expect a masterpiece sequel to the first because this is not.

Strange, but interesting. However, it's not as strong as it's predecessor. Though, it's still worth playing. Visuals are great and the lighting effects are used to enhance the experience. Story will not make sense until you finish the game, so do not let that sway your opinion.

Oh boy! This is my favorite Bloober Team game by far and the one I think is their best. It doesn't overstay its welcome like both Observer and Layers of Fear 1, and has a lot to say about the creative process. Rife with film references and a genuine examination of character and the character building process, Bloober actually managed to nail the games' core conceit this time around. I really had a blast with this, and might do a New Game+ run just to clean up achievements and find some of the more eldritch secrets lurking aboard the ship.

TL:DR ;

You won't find anything exciting and 99% you will hate this game if you already played original Layers of Fear. If you REALLY want to try Layers of Fear 2, play this then the original one. BELIEVE ME you will regret if you play in order.

Layers of fear is best horror entertainment I've ever seen and third best game I've ever played out of 156 BUT Layers of fear 2 is worst third. My expectations were so high after the first one and eventually led me to biggest disappointment of my life. If I didn't play original one surely I could have enjoy second one because in the first game I'VE BEEN THRILLED , SHAKED , FEARED and game psychologically captived me. I remember I was not able to play more than 20 minutes because my heart was beating so fast that I was afraid to something serious may happen. Layers of fear 2 , however , was a true walking simulator without no horror object. I mean do I have to be terrified from man made of light coming towards me for the 17th time?. Since I comprehended layers of fear 2 is not horrendous after 2 hours of gameplay, nothing scared me even if it was scary.

TL:DR2 ;

Layers of fear 2 is the best hoax you could find for waste one's time

Its not so good like Layers of Fear & DLC Inheritance but it isa good game. There is many to find & read or heared. You should play it 3 times to get seen all 3 Endings (you dont need to complete it 3 times, if you are smart 2 complete runs of Level 1-4 is enough and 3 runds of Level 5).

The game is short. First round you should search every corner & dont rush through and miss the messages and collectible items. On New Game plus you get 4 more Items.

The hunts arent bad. If you have problems you can switch to Save Mode (+ of the game)

I enjoy it. Dont forget its not an AAA+ 50-60 Euro game.

Good for Indie Horror Fans & Steam Achievement Hunters. Support the developers for Layers of Fear 3 please.

Not as good as the first Layers of Fear. Too much trial and error. When horror gives way to frustration, it ruins the atmosphere.

layers of fear 2 does everything wrong that the first game did right.
did they change their crew?

no jump scares
boring paths u walk along that often look badly made
a lot of repeating parts that get rly annoying
story is messed up and makes no sense after a short while

best to wait for a third game or replay LoF1 instead.

Nothing like the first. The plot is ass and it just drones on too long with pointless scenes in which they re use cheap scares. I actually got a headache from playing.

Creeped out from Tony Todd's voice. Creeped out from the mannequins, and creeped out from the twitchy guy that chases ya around.
