Über das Spiel

Love is a reductive platforming game with a retro aesthetic and a focus on a challenging difficulty. It has an custom respawn system, 16 levels, 12 track soundtrack, competitive scoring, and a simple-to-use level creation feature.

The challenging levels are balanced with the inclusion of a simple yet unique respawn system wherein the player can leave a checkpoint at any location at any point, as long as they are on solid ground. Players have a number of gameplay modes to choose from, whether they want it easy, normal, or they want to try their hand at a mode designed specifically for Speed Running.

Beyond the visual aesthetic, the challenging level design, and the abundance of features, there is the fantastic soundtrack composed by James Bennett, which brings the simple 3-color atmospheres to life.

Mein Indie-Game 2014.

12 Level, jedes KANN man in 1 Minute durchspielen.

Fun challenging Plattformer with an amazing Soundtrack. The Yolo Achievement is what made me pursue Achievement hunting. It felt so rewarding when i got through the game without dying. And when you are done with this one, there are two more Sequels with even more awesome Level and an equally awesome Soundtrack.
It's also fun to speedrun this and the Sequels, go check these games out!

In my opinion this is a perfect platformer for people who don't like platformers. I know because I'm one of those people. Usually the act of jumping between 2d blocks bores me to tears and the frustrating trial and error that often accompanies it doesn't help matters.

Love is an exception to that rule.

There's something about the simplicity and directness of its gameplay that's really appealing. There's not much in the way of momentum or friction to worry about, so landing precise jumps is really just a matter of pressing and releasing jump/movement at the right time. It feels very responsive and precise, and makes chaining together sequences of jumps very satisfying and easy to grasp, even for someone who doesn't have years of platformer muscle memory. And... that's about all you have to worry about. You run and jump. Each level has varied and unique obstacles that challenge your timing or reactions, but there's never anything overly complex.

This isn't a criticism, mind you. As I said, I think the simplicity of Love works to its advantage. It's easy to get into, easy to enjoy. Easy to look at too, with its appealing almost-monochromatic abstract shapes sometimes implying a grounded place and sometimes just creating pretty patterns. And easy to consume for another important reason: the checkpoint system. In Love you have complete control over where checkpoints are placed, and an infinite supply of them. In other words, if a specific jump is giving you trouble, you simply place a checkpoint right there and boom, you respawn right there every time you die. On the default mode you're limited to 100 lives, but there's a mode with infinite lives as well, and that ends up being a surprisingly relaxing experience. Just keep trying until you get it, no pressure. And once you're comfortable with the game and the challenges it presents, there are other more difficult modes, including one where you only have a single life.

tl;dr a simple appealing little game that makes platforming fun and chill, even if you don't usually find platforming neither fun nor chill. Recommended at the asking price, HIGHLY recommended on sale.

This game is amazing. Even though it's a simple platformer, and short
there are 16 main levels, 7? remix levels, and 3 kuso levels
. But each level only takes maybe a minute or two to complete on your first go, and even less the better you get., I found myself replaying levels to get better times, finding shortcuts, and getting a better understanding of the games mechanics. It also has a level editor, but I haven't tried it out yet. I really recommend this game, even at full price.

Let's start with what I like about the game:

1. It's price. At only $3, I feel like it is well worth it. There are games out there that give you less at double the cost

2. The music. Every level has it's own song, and I am a huge fan of music like this. Check out the LOVE ost by James Bennett on bandcamp to listen to some of the music.

3. The gameplay / controls. The controls are very smooth and responsive. I think you only move at one speed, and you stop moving as soon as you let go. This keeps you in complete control. I never came across any glitches, or felt like I died because of the controls. And because of the graphics, it's easy to tell what you can and can't interact with. You also get unlimited check points to place wherever you want. If a jump looks tough, just place a checkpoint before you go. There are also modes with limited lives and such, for those looking to keep things challenging.

4. The graphic. They are very simple. Each level has it's own color, helping it stand out. The limited palette each level has really helps bring each element of a level together, and the black background helps those elements pop and stand out.

5. The atmosphere. I can't describe it, but the music and the graphics really compliment each other. Sometimes, I want to take my time in a level just to enjoy it.

6. The level design. Each level is unique and stands out on it's own. Not just because of the art and the music, but because of the game play elements introduced in each level. Levels will sometimes re-use elements from a previous level, but never feel like a rehash.

7. How easy it is to practice. Like I said above, you get unlimited checkpoints to place anywhere on the ground, unless you put it in an obstacles way, then it will be destroyed. This, combined with the fact that you can practice any level at any time, makes practicing tough parts very accessible. There is a jump in a level I was having a lot of trouble on. So I just loaded that level from the level select, put a checkpoint before that jump, and practiced it over and over until I got the timing down. Surprisingly, having unlimited checkpoints does not make the game too easy, and actually makes me want to see this in other games.

Now for the short list of what I didn't like:

1. The design of a couple of levels. One has a bunch of bouncing platforms moving up and down, and it's very difficult to get the timing right. I get through it with luck every time. And another level has platforms that move on a set path, and it's not too hard, but you have to wait a while for enough platforms to appear before you can even complete the level.

2. As I make attempt after attempt at getting the YOLO achievement, I become more and more irritated that it was easier to get this (and other difficult achievements) in the past. Partly due to glitches, and mostly due to the fact that there used to be 12 main levels, instead of the current
16
. More levels is definitely good, but I don't agree with making an achievement significantly harder after so many people have gotten it. I would have been fine with adding another achievement for all 16 levels (although I don't know how adding achievements works with steam, so it may not have been possible.) Or even better, just keep the achievement for the original 12 levels. Sadly (for me at least), the developer doesn't seem to have any interest in changing this. And that's fine. I mean, more levels being added is still technically a positive. I'll just have to keep trying for it. The game is still enjoyable enough to keep trying, and the new levels, while challenging, don't seem too unfair.

In closing, with so many positives, and only a couple of negatives that won't affect most people, I strongly recommend this game, even at full price.

LOVE is a hardcore platformer with a range of difficulty options for every type of player. The levels are designed very well and they each have a unique theme, as well as unique platforming challenges. Because the levels are all very different, dying is inevitable and a major part of the game. The normal difficulty level gives you 100 lives and unlimited checkpoints, which must be manually placed. Harder difficulties add more restrictions, but most people will have the best experience at the default difficulty. The soundtrack is solid and works well with the short game length to help ensure it doesn't get repetitive. Overall, an all-around good game without any major flaws, aside from possibly its length.

Kuso has somewhat overwritten this game, but Love is still great on its own. A very small game that's really best for speedrunning. It's still very fun as a single play through. Also a secretly amazing soundtrack.

lost my patience with this game when I realized you can softlock yourself and rather than restart the level, you're forced the restart the entire game.

The sequel improves on all of this and fixes that softlock problem. And on top of that, it lets you save!

Play Kuso and skip this.

Pretty good precision platformer, although the one big thing that hurts it is the 30fps cap. It doesn't ruin the game, but it takes some time to adjust for input latency and when the screen scrolls it has that juddery feel.

Nonetheless it's still a fun albeit short experience. If you enjoy platformers than definitely give this one a shot on sale.

What a great retro-style platformer. Quite a surprise...

Extremely fluid controls, solid and challenging level design. Sound and music are perfectly suited and not annoying.

For something basic, this is really about as good as it gets. Recommended to any fan of 2D platformers.

I may not love Love, but I dig it quite a bit.

Nice music and solid platforming which demands a high degree of precision in order to progress even with the alloted 100 lives. The distinctive retro aesthetics make this an easy recommendation for genre fans, especially given the low price which is absolutely worth it in this fella's opinion.

Love is in Early Access, and I'm aware of that. This is just my first experience playing it and what my thoughts are about it so far. First of all, I must admit I am a bit disappointed because it was so short. My first playthrough took 40 minutes, but I'm assuming they did that because it was designed to be played in Speedrun Mode. Simple controls - A to jump, S to save checkpoint, arrow keys to move. It's not a very complicated idea and there aren't really any special mechanics; it's player vs. environment. Not to say that they need to add more things to spice it up, it was made like that and it's supposed to be like that. Its simplicity is one of the things I like most about the game.

Another thing I liked was that I was really starting to groove and dig the music since I entered the fourth level (yellow walls). They definitely need to get a soundtrack up. Really set the vibe, and got me to enjoy it and just chill. Great job on that.

What's interesting is that the more times I replay it, the more I love it. If you didn't see me mention it just a second ago, you can play the game in Speedrun Mode with a timer and an option to upload to the leaderboards. Now, I'm not exactly sure where the leaderboards are accessible from at the moment but hey, it just came out a couple hours ago. If it's addicting to play now, without a public leaderboard, I can only imagine how much time I'd spend when it does come out. You can also play it in YOLO mode where you only have 1 life for all 12 levels.

First impression was that the difficulty levels were too low but like most games, they introduce new knowledge slowly or how to approach a certain situation then build the difficulty up as you go along. But it's still a mildly challenging game, so I'm hoping the level designers might tweak a few things to make it slightly more difficult. Not Super-Meat-Boy-difficult of course, just something that might make people put more effort into trying to finish it. But until then, YOLO mode ought to do for now. Also, they should really make it so that ESC doesn't completely exit you out of the game. I was trying to go to the menu in the middle of a game and exited instead.

Give it a chance. I wasn't very impressed the first time I played it but after spending a bit more time with it, I'm looking forward to where they're taking Love and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who'd enjoy a simple and cute little indie game.
