Sadly I played through this game within 5 hours. Its way to easy. The most difficult part was most of the time to figure out, what the game wants from me and not how to do it. It took me a while to realise the little cat could melt within the shadows. I bought it to play a puzzle game, but I prefer a game, where I need to figure out how to do something and not what to do, because there are no words in this game.

Genau richtig. Grafik und Sound auch top!

It's a beautiful and magical journey. Charming, fantastic artwork, too, which is the game's forte. The accompanied musical scores are delightful and fitting to its fantasy theme. The background story somehow brought a few drops of confusing tears at the end, perhaps thanks to the emotional tune and the ever-touching act of love.

The major issue here is the gameplay which demands you finish too many tedious a task in order to complete the puzzles. You climb the stool, climb the ladder, push the box, and repeat some or many of those again. About 20% puzzle and the remaining 80% walking around. When a puzzle was finished and I advanced to the next level, I thought to myself, was that it, that's all there is to the puzzle? And admittedly I felt horrid thinking so since the game is downright gorgeous. There is for me the relaxing, immersive playing pace, but this game didn't hit within that range.

If you are drawn to the game's artistic beauty and don't really mind anything else, then go ahead. But I don't think I can really recommend this to any of my friends.

Luna: the shadow dust is a lovely puzzle adventure with hand-drawn animations and a fine emphasis on light and darkness. With warm colors and intricate and homely backgrounds the game will make you feel right at home in this cozy world.

As with any point and click game the gameplay will get repetitive, slow and make you feel like a bystander at times so I advice to keep that in mind when purchasing. Rather than a game it feels more like an interactive art piece, but I believe that makes it all the more worth playing through as it is truly beautiful.

As a final note on this very short and choppy review I'd like to say that I'm a big fan of Ursula K. Le Guin and I appreciated the nods towards her work that you see throughout the game.

Great art and story.

LUNA The Shadow Dust contains no single word - not even one in the game menu. At first I doubt the puzzles (no hints available) or the story can be told this way. The puzzle goes from simple to medium difficulty, few I need to work my brain out but the clocktower puzzle and season puzzle are almost a killer. Mostly puzzles are pretty obvious to solve, and the interests to click are striking. The girl and cat work in calibrate, together they climb and light up the once dark tower.

At the end the game let you what is going on, who's the cat, why the girl land here and the meaning of throwbacks. I am touched.
In my eyes this story is trying to tell us -
Peace always comes with a price

A beautiful Point-and-Click puzzle game with gorgeous hand drawn visuals, an enchanting soundtrack and an emphasis on light and shadow puzzles.

Luna The Shadow Dust has a storybook feel throughout, helped handily by the visuals and soundtrack. The story follows Uri and his companion Layh as they climb the Tower and try to reach the top to restore the light and discover what happened to it. The puzzles range in difficulty but are never so difficult as to be frustrating. The game took me around 3 hours to complete, so this would be the perfect chill puzzle game for a spare evening to play through in one!

I recommend Luna to anyone who enjoys a mystical soundtrack and a relaxing point-and-click adventure.

If you like good art, this is the game for you... unless you actually also want a game. The characters move laboriously, which is made worse by the amount of times they have to push a block from one side of the screen to the other and back. The puzzles rely on repeating actions in the correct sequence: make a mistake and you have to start over. Each of these actions comes with its own animation, which fills a few seconds and thus pads the playing time even more. The whole game is a series of escape rooms, with one puzzle to solve in each room to open the door, so all in all, it's repetition upon slow repetition. Might be worth it if you have a couple of weeks to kill, a lot of patience and you get it in a 50% off sale.

Luna The Shadow Dust is a lovely spinning of a fairy tale into a game. The art, both in-game and in cutscenes, is beautiful and detailed. The story was carefully crafted to work with no dialog. The music is whimsical and soothing. The game took me a little over three hours, which I think was a good amount of time for the story and gameplay. Some of the puzzles were fairly challenging, but most had consistent logic. There was only one puzzle (room 9) involving a mechanic I did not know how to trigger that I looked up.

My only complaints didn't detract from my enjoyment of the game. The controls are a little bit awkward. The movement speed is slow and some actions take more work than I think they should (for example, getting down from a platform and walking around requires one action to jump down from the platform, and another one to walk around). The developers mentioned in a post release update that they are working on improving these issues.

I do like that it is possible to visit each room individually after it has been completed, especially since there are some achievements that I missed during my first playthrough.

This is a perfect game to play during a weekend. I finished my first playthrough in a single day, and it was a sweet and relaxing way to play the game. I played it on Steam on my computer, but Switch might be the better choice, just because it would have been perfect to play in bed.

A game that is viewed as a simplistic puzzle game that turns into a heartfelt journey. The puzzles are not too easy but not mind boggling either so after you complete each section there is a strong sense of satisfaction after completing each puzzle. Most games like this have a tendency to get lost in it's own plot, much like the game Iris Fall. But Luna however does a great job storytelling without dialogue & even if we don't get the whole picture. I really hope this company tries to flush this out into something more. I see a lot of good potential in it story wise.

Beautifully drawn, but infuriatingly repetitive and dumb...basically, the artwork is MUCH better than the gameplay. This game is too slow and frustrating for no good reason, which is a pity, as it had great promise that failed to materialize.

OK, I've finished this - the artwork and effort is GORGEOUS, but there is MUCH too much time in which the player is passive watching a long, pretty incomprehensible/illogical sequence of stuff play out. This game is all style and no content, as near as I can tell - the foundational story is lacking, and the pacing is abysmally slow.

The game has gorgeous aesthetics, but the actual puzzles are a mixed bag.

How long it takes various animations and transitions to play out makes figuring the puzzles out more frustrating than I think they should be, so that when the solution is a bit obscure and requires some back-and-forth to figure out it becomes very tedious.

If you can deal with that, and really like pretty hand-drawn graphics and an emotional soundtrack, I think it's worth trying out, but it's not an easy recommendation because of the frustrations.

Luna: The Shadow Dust

All ѕtуlеѕ аrе good except the tiresome kind.
Voltaire*

I’ve never been a big fan of point & click games, and to be fair I don’t think that I will ever become one of them.

Luna: The Shadow Dust attracted me with its incredible picture: warm colours and the locations which I just wanted to observe, not play. I honestly think that this game has one of the most beautiful settings I’ve ever seen. I can talk and talk of how the graphics are incredibly beautiful. However that is only the picture, I don't want to play a game only for its landscapes. I need something more.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2418521503
Despite the visuals, something called a game, should have something else to play for. Unfortunately, the game doesn’t provide anything except that. In total, I completed the game in about 4 hours, but to complete the four-hour game took me about two weeks. The reason for such a long play through of such a short game is to what degree the game is wonderful visually to the same degree is exceptionally boring.

I was frustrated all the time while I was playing the game. The characters move very slowly. That affects the puzzles solving: it takes tons of time when one character would move from one side of the screen to another to press a button (or a lever for a change) and then back again. And that’s the only game mechanic of solving the puzzles. The same repeatable actions all the time made me really exhausted so I couldn’t tolerate more than 1-2 levels at one go. I would play the game even less per day but there is no in-level saving option – the game saves only between levels. But there is a possibility to replay single levels to get some missed cheevos, which is great because I don’t think that I would ever want to replay the game again.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2418521698
One of the features of the game is the lack of voice acting. It is something unusual and unique but in terms of this game the feature doesn’t help much – it only made the game experience even more exhausting and tiresome. There are only terribly long cut scenes which show what is going on here but for me they were really hard to follow. In addition, there are no subtitles or notes or basically anything which could help to understand or to remind me (especially after such breaks of playing the game) what is the point of the game.

Yes, I understand that support of independent indie developers is important. I’m not diminishing their visuals and the amount of the work done but I believe the price for the game is exceptionally high for such little and not that enjoyable experience.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2418742344
I really recommend the game for its visuals and highly discourage buying the game for the full price for the rest of LUNA: The Shadow Dust dimensions and for people who are not interested in the games where visuals predominate the gaming pleasure.

I wanted to like this game. I really did.

And there is much to like. The art and animation is excellent. The music is soothing and works very well with the visuals of the game.

But the game itself is frustrating. Not because the puzzles are difficult, but because they are often quite boring to solve. Many of them require you to repeat actions over and over, and many of those actions are often slow. And if you're trying to figure something out the frustration will grow even worse as you're forced to watch slow (but beautifully made) animations play out time and time again.

The story, such as it is, is fairly interesting, but lacks the emotional weight it tries to deliver since the game is quite short. And for such a short game it relies quite heavily on cutscenes, which I found surprising.

All in all I was unfortunately disappointed with LUNA The Shadow Dust. It's a good looking game, but it's all surface.

Pros:
- Game is beautiful and has wonderful music
- The whimsical and cute feel to the world is a delight
- Animations are adorable even though they are choppy and/or low resolution

Cons:
- Most of your time is spent walking back and forth to complete puzzles
- A lot of the puzzles were too simple and ended up being tedious because of the speed you walk at
- The pacing of the game is weird at times
- Over $20 is completely absurd for a barely 4 hours of gameplay

I am saddened that the cons outweigh the pros for this game, because it is absolutely beautiful and you can tell that a lot of love was put into it.

This is a beautiful game.

LUNA is a point-and-click puzzle game. It's not a standard inventory-based adventure game; it is more a series of rooms which are all self-contained puzzles.

The hand-drawn style gives the whole experience a very cinematic feel that has stuck with me long after the credits have rolled.

A short, poignant, wordless tale wrapped in a series of clever room-based puzzles.

Pros:
* Beautiful music
* Intelligent puzzles
* The later puzzles will, likely, make you scratch your head where to even start.
* Except for the 1st few (and the very last), each room takes ~15-30 min to solve. Great for a quick distraction.

Cons:
* Short - 3 hrs, for me.

Meh:
* Can't save mid-room - if you have to quit the game, you'll have to restart the current room.
* Start menu is mystery-meat icons - they make sense after you click them, but expect no explanations.

TL;DR: If you like puzzles and wordless tales, 8/10 (due to length); else, avoid.

If LUNA The Shadow Dust would have been priced at around 5-10 euros, this would have been a much easier game for me to recommend. As it stands, I can't justify spending 20 euros while there are much more enjoyable adventure/puzzle games in the same or even lower price range. Games that I ended up enjoying heaps more than I enjoyed LUNA.

First the good: the game looks great, although the animations can be a bit choppy. That didn't bother me because it somehow adds to the games charm. I loved the use of colors and I especially liked the soundtrack that had some wonderfully enchanting moments (especially near the ending where it made me think of the Ori games).

What I really didn't enjoy were the meaningless puzzles. Most of them were incredibly easy to figure out but still took a LOT of time to solve, running around in circles to throw switches and push blocks. Some of them were quite frustrating in its execution and took WAY too long to solve, because I had to repeat or reset certain cycles again and again or switch between the two characters to solve the different steps of a puzzle.

I never felt that I was figuring things out, or exploring a cool setting, but I was instead forced to do menial tasks to get to the next chapter. Meanwhile, the two characters move at a snails pace, only adding to the frustration.

And then there is the games length. I managed to solve the game in three hours (even with the characters moving so slow). I don't believe how much time you need to beat a game is really important (I love shorter games!) but overall LUNA I just felt like a bad deal to me.

I considered getting a refund when I was nearing the 2 hour mark but I do believe the developers can do better. With some better pacing and more interesting puzzles LUNA could be a great game. But it is really not at the moment. 4/10

Beautiful visual story, with interesting puzzles. There's no voice at all, and I didn't feel the need for it.
The OST is stunning, and the story will definitely make you bond with the characters.

I enjoyed playing it, even if it is very short :)

I was so excited about playing this game, because of the stunning artwork and because I love point-and-click games. But I'm very disappointed with it. The art is amazing, but that's about it. The puzzles are boring and tedious. Finding the solutions is relatively easy, but the execution of those solutions involves so many repetitive actions and everything moves incredibly slow. The story is forgettable. I can't bring myself to finish the game, getting through the puzzles feels like a chore.

Beautiful game with good puzzles. I played it with my 5 year old by my side and we talked about the story, which is told in pictures, not words. She could also help move the characters around the screen.

Beautiful game, cute storyline, but nothing too special.
The gameplay was extremely boring and i was feeling frustrated the whole time.
I usually enjoy clicker and pointer type of games, but this one fell short for me.
If you are interested in a more dynamic gameplay, I don't recommend this :(

Luna: The Shadow Dust is a point & click adventure puzzler that has been fully hand-drawn and animated. The art style appears heavily influenced by Studio Ghibli’s stuff and yet still manages to stand out on its own. The music is equally as beautiful as the visuals and the two combined craft a wonderful interactive artwork that is simple to use, challenging at times and fun to play through.

Feel like I can certainly recommend this game to folks that enjoy puzzle games.

I liked everything about this game BUT the puzzles! lol I agree with other reviews saying that the character moves too slowly and that the puzzles involve a LOT of repetition of the same action to be completed (the thorn being a notorious example). Overall, the game was beautiful enough to motivate me to unlock all achievements, but the puzzle-play experience could definitely be improved. With all that said, I'd recommend this game when on sale!

This game is along the same lines of games like Machinarium - simple point and click to solve the puzzles. However, it has a wonderful dynamic of dual control, so you have some really interesting puzzles to solve. A couple are a little tedious as is always the way, but the art is lovely and it was captivating enough that I played it all in one sitting.

My only real issue with is was the cut scenes - they were long and you couldn't skip them. Frankly, I found them a little odd and unnecessary.

The game has a beautiful design, but finale wasn't fair, because they didn't give the answer in some place before to solve the puzzle.
The soundtrack is awesome too, but the story was poor.
I remembered Dark Tower at the end, seems like a copy.
But even there, it was not satisfied for me.
Sorry guys, this game is not worth the price it has.

Beautiful art and music, an intriguing story that unfolds as you play, and reasonably challenging puzzles. This is one of the few games I've played that I immediately wanted to replay after finishing it the first time.

Beautiful game and wonderful music. Still, I found the game to be boring and frustrating at times.
Simple puzzles, and repetitive and unskippable animations. So much going back and forth, back and forth. Too slow paced for me.

It's a beautiful game and everything - fun puzzles, lovely graphics, great atmosphere, see the positive reviews - but the ending? Can you at least warn a person or something next time? I spent twenty minutes today trying to calm down a five-year-old who was crying unconsolably at the end :(

The game was pretty great until the last few minutes.

Apparently Steam won't let me post a review without giving it a thumbs up/thumbs down... I'd still recommend this game but maybe don't repeat my mistake and use it as a family bonding time.

Found this on a list of games similar to Machinarium, which I loved. I've not been disappointed. The art is wonderful, the pace and music are calming. Maybe the puzzles aren't the most challenging in the beginning but they become more complex as it goes on. It's a nice journey anyway.

I saw a review that criticized the simplicity of the puzzles, but I think that it matches the overall theme. The game does bank heavily on its graphics and music, but the use of the two characters is often ingenious and a feature of adventure games that's often underused. Like many recent adventure games, there is no inventory. I wonder if having one might not have made a deeper experience, but it would have been a radical change.

Loved the puzzles, artwork and music.

Couldn't get into the story at all, the cut scenes were too long and vague. Wish there had been shorter ones with a bit more information. Also, it was a super short play through. Not worth the $$$

LUNA The Shadow Dust (Point & Click Puzzle)
Game provided for Curator review

Options include separate sliders for music and sound, plus full-screen/windowed. Cutscenes can be re-watched via the main menu.

Story:

As darkness consumes the land, two friends ascend an ancient tower in their quest to restore their world and banish the shadows.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2013510722
There is no journal, nor in fact, any dialogue at all. There didn't seem to be much story at first; just short cutscenes... Until you progress to a point where you're familiar with the characters, and then you'll be presented with a scene that lasts probably 7 minutes. There are two super-long cutscenes during the game, and luckily, you CAN pause if you need to! I didn't notice a skip button, but I see on the forums that the dev was going to add that option once you've played it through once. All told there is nearly 30 minutes of animation to enjoy.

Gameplay:

This feels more like an escape-the-room type of puzzle adventure than anything else. You'll be working with a couple of scenes at a time, and will need to find a way for both of you to progress before you can leave the area.

Each character has their own skills and weaknesses. For instance, the boy can flip switches and move objects, whilst his companion can enter small spaces and morph into the shadows as if they were as solid as the real world.

The puzzles themselves are logical and fun to figure out, although there is specific time that you'll have to remember from early in the game... I played through in multiple sittings, so I had to resort to a walkthrough to get that info. I recommend this one, since it explains where the original solution could be found.

PRO TIP: There is no way to make your characters move faster, BUT, you can click to get one moving, then swap to the other to get them to move at the same time.

Unlocked chapters can be replayed from the main menu, which is super-helpful to get any of the 24 Steam achievements that you might have missed.

Verdict:

If you're looking for action, this is not for you. This is a charming point and click game for those who would like to relax for a while. I really enjoyed my time with LUNA, and hope that these devs put out more games soon! Recommended!

This game has beautiful music accompanied by equally amazing art style. Even though there is no dialogue you can easily tell (most of the time) what the story is trying to say and if you can't you can pick out the main meaning of it.

Take an Amanita game, blend the artsy style of GRIS in and give it a room-escape twist: this is what playing LUNA The Shadow Dust essentially feels like. For me, this was an unforgettable experience: it’s a unique and magical game with an emotional and heartwarming story and an amazing soundtrack.

I am a big fan of Amanita games, and LUNA The Shadow Dust takes the best aspects of their specific style (the way the puzzles are built, charming characters, whimsical machinery with all sorts of cute buttons that do unexpected funny things etc.) and tops them up with with a watercolour hand-painted 2D art and a haunting soundtrack, both reminiscent of GRIS’ unique artistic design. And just like in GRIS, the enchanting story is told without words, through images and an immersive, moving soundtrack, extremely fitting for the game setting.

LUNA The Shadow Dust belongs to the point and click genre but at its core, it’s basically an escape-room game. The nameless protagonist (we find out his name from the achievements description - Üri) sets on a spiritual journey to reach the top of the tower that holds the balance of the universe. He starts at the bottom, making his way to the top one room at a time. Each room represents a self-contained puzzle and the locked door that leads to the next room can be opened only if the puzzle is correctly solved. The difficulty remains pretty constant throughout the game (apart from the last puzzle which is substantially more difficult than the others), but just like in Amanita titles, the player often needs to pay attention to details; because of that, the solutions are not always obvious and sometimes one has to think out of the box and try unexpected things. Even if the objects that you can interact with are highlighted on mouseover, one needs to trial-and-error a bit in order to understand their logic or how / in which order they need to be combined.

Shortly after he starts his journey, the main character meets Layh, a charming animal who instantly develops a strong bond with Üri after he is saved by him. From that point on, the two friends have to join their strengths together in order to solve the tower’s mysteries. Layh is tiny and can crawl into small spaces, but he needs Üri’s help to reach higher areas; Üri on the other hand can push or pull boxes on which Layh can climb; later on, new abilities of these two characters are revealed, but one thing remains constant throughout the game: they will always need to work together. The player controls Üri and Layh separately, one character at a time with the ability to switch between them (by clicking on their portraits or by pressing space), no matter if they’re in different realms or close to each other and they will often have to interact with other adorable animals, like this little fellow here:

As it is often the case with tales that are told without words, LUNA The Shadow Dust’s story leaves a few aspects unexplained and there’s quite a lot of room for speculation. “Why did the boy fall from the sky at the beginning of the game?”,
“Why is the tower located at the intersection of two words and what is its purpose?”
,
“Will the boy develop magical powers when he grows up, and take after his caretaker?”
and many others. The secret ending sheds a bit of light on some of these open questions and gives the story a mystic, spiritual connotation, therefore I highly suggest unlocking it (and the extra cutscene that comes with it) after you finish playing the game. The player can go back anytime and revisit any room, therefore triggering this additional ending is extremely easy.

LUNA The Shadow Dust is one of the games I would definitely nominate for this year’s Game Awards. It’s a creation of love, beautiful and heartwarming, mysterious and challenging, and it deserves all the credit it gets.

In two words: absolutelly lovely.

It's a short adventure and puzzle game, and every minute is worth it - from the work that went into the graphics to the music. On every level I was amazed by the - hand drawn - illustrations.
The level of detail and care on this game shows how much love and creativity went into it - this game is an interactive work of art.

You start out with very simple puzzles, and slowly grow into more complex ones.
Controls are simple, so gameplay is quite easy - there is no inventory involved, just clicks, pushes, moves, jumps. Every level is mostly independent from the previous and the next one, but some levels have multiple rooms.
I see this game as fitting for all ages - well, maybe with some adult help on the later level for the younger players.

It's a refreshing game, a calming break from all the action packed stressful games on the market.
The full price (€19.99) may seem a bit high considering it was a 4 hour experience for me, but those were some very enjoyable 4 hours.
Recommend to everyone.
