NORCO ist ein Point-&-Click-Adventure im Südstaaten-Gothic-Stil, in dem die Spieler*innen in die überschwemmten Vororte und Industriesümpfe eines heruntergekommenen South Louisiana eintauchen. Nach dem Tod der Mutter und dem Verschwinden des Bruders, begeben sich die Spieler*innen mit einem flüchtigen Sicherheitsandroiden auf die Suche durch die Raffinerien, verfallenen Einkaufszentren und Abwasserkanälen der Vororte von New Orleans.

Die malerische und cineastische Pixel-Art von NORCO entführt dich in austrocknende Sumpfgebiete, labyrinthartige Industriekomplexe und weitere Gebiete. Jede einzelne Grafik wurde von der namengebenden Kleinstadt Norco und der Umgebung der Metropolregion New Orleans inspiriert. Das Musik- und Sounddesign von fmAura und die mitreißenden, postindustriellen Tracks von Gewgawly I werden dich in ihren Bann ziehen.

Visually lush and tonally evocative, Norco fails to stick the landing in ways that undermine the rest of the game retroactively. That is, the *plot* of the game resolves well enough — you figure out what happened and why by the end — but the emotional arc is muted almost to the point of nonexistence. There's no epiphany or catharsis, no moment when the disorientation and alienation of the game's terse, poetical style and worldbuilding suddenly coheres into something meaningful or moving.

The recent genre touchpoints are Disco Elysium and Kentucky Route Zero, but both of those games were *deeply* invested in the emotional realities of their protagonists, even if the presentation was fractured, elusive, and allegorical. Norco establishes some potent tensions between family, place, and legacy, and then doesn't actually *do* anything with that setup.

It's a game well worth playing — the presentation and moment to moment writing are both phenomenal — but it never becomes more than the sum of its parts, unfortunately.

First review on steam. NORCO is the most heartfelt, bittersweet love letter to a place I can never visit. Part point and click part interactive fiction, with some great RPG part combat thrown in ala Phantasy Star online 1-4.

NORCO has much to say about who we are and what the internet and industry has done to us. You may not like what you find, but the truth is not always tidy or satisfying.

I loved this game, Try the demo, buy the game. In a world of 100 hour game backlogs, NORCO is 5 hours of mystery with a soul. Play it.

Beyond its poetry and entrancing pixel-scapes, Norco has a powerful, magical pull that I have felt from the other side (of the planet). I saw so much of myself in its people and I saw so many parallels between Norco, Louisiana and my own hometown.
There is universality in places like these - towns ruined by corporate greed, corruption and natural disaster. After ruin and tragedy, there is poverty, homelessness, gentrification, catastrofitti, hopelessness, list goes on, but there is also people trying to cope and to fight. Norco gets this more than right and this aspect is something I've related to the most. Though it's seemingly sombre and bleak, it's full of heart. Through everything you experience playing this game, you can feel the love the developers have put in it. It's really intimate.
There's an odd sense of comfort behind everything Norco tackles and shows, behind the fact that a story like this can exist and be so magical. I'm hoping we'll see more of stories like this in the future. I hope my town will get a similar treatment one day. I'm thankful to have learned about a place like Norco through this game. I'm thankful to have met the wonderful people behind this landmark piece of art. And I'm so excited to see what's next for Geography of Robots.

Story continues to shock you until the very end. Great visuals, so many places to explore, and surprisingly has some fun mini-games despite being a point and click game. Highly recommend.
