Empfehlenswert: Nein (persönliche Wertung: 3/10)

Errungenschaften: Nein

Positiv:
- Story annehmbar

Negativ:
- Zu kurz
- Keine Herausforderung mit Zielen
- Schlauchlevel
- Viele Bugs

Fazit:

Another so bad it's good game. Operation Thunderstorm is a simple fps game in the long list of budget games from developer City Interactive. It runs on the Jupiter EX engine also known from the FEAR games, meaning the combat is actually fun in this game because the shooting mechanics are similar to that of FEAR. You can finish the game within 2 hours so it's very short. In the guide section you can find an uncensored patch bringing back blood effects and certain symbols used during WWII.

Another slightly janky but functional low-budget WW2 shooter from City Interactive. Don't go in to this expecting anything amazing or groundbreaking, but if you do like WW2 FPS games then this is another one worth checking out if you just want something short to kill off a couple of hours.

This game takes F.E.A.R. (or at least the engine), removes bullet-time, removes good level design, and puts it in WW2.

Playtime is under 2 hours, and in that time you murder Goebbels, Himmler, and Göring. The levels are copy-pasty, but distinct between the ~6 environments. Level design is good enough to keep you on track at a brisk pace, but not good enough to facilitate actually fun combat encounters. The enemies consist of about 3 different normal skins, and 3 bosses. Everyone goes down in one burst, and I only discovered later on that there were pain states, so common was it for enemies to croak immediately. You've got Call of Duty 2 style slowly regenerating health. There's explosive barrels and gas canisters strewn about, but most aren't in a good spot to blow enemies up. There's grenades, but they take so long to go off enemies have often moved away by then. Weapon lineup is cookie-cutter but servicable: bayonet, Luger, Sten, MP44, StG44, Kar98K (rarely scoped), and Panzerfaust (which I forgot to use because nothing really required it). The MP44 will be your mainstay, but the Luger and StG44 are also quite powerful. The bolt-action Kar98K is only really useful in the medium-distance encounters in the first level, after that you're almost always close-quarters.

Anyway, if that all sounds like a very clinical description of this game that's because that's all there is to it. No real story or interesting mechanics, just blasting Nazis in bland looking levels. I'm not sure what to rate this. It's not good, but it's not bad either. I guess you could do a lot worse if you just want to blast some nazis, but you could definitely do a lot better with the Wolfenstein and Sniper Elite series.

So I'll go with a recommendation, because if you're interested enough to consider buying this game it's not a horrible waste of 2 hours.

Operation Thunderstorm is a budget ww2 FPS that might not be for everyone. If you like ww2 shooters even if they are lacking in some parts, Thunderstorm might be for you. Thunderstorm is cheap and short - it took me about 2.1h to complete the game. Unless you are using the Russian or Polish language, the game will be cut and have no blood and no nazi iconography. However, there is an uncut patch to make the game uncut for every language.

+ gunplay
+ propaganda posters
+ boss fights even if they are very easy
+ decent ending. I didn't expect that because Royal Marine Commando's ending was anti-climactic
+ Thunderstorm uses the F.E.A.R. engine Jupiter EX. What is not to love? Some particle effects and how the AI moves and reacts is very similar to F.E.A.R.
+ funny dialogue and decent German voice acting

- many maps are re-used from Royal Marine commando
- map design: too linear. many levels are inside of buildings to take advantage of the engine's and AI's strength, but there could have been more open maps
- blood is there, but could need some gore

I have this game, because this was my second game, what I walked through (i was like 8-9 then).
It has a very short camping. No joke, it can walkthrough in 1-1,5 hour.
The AI is a bit dumb. For example: If you throw a grenade at them, they will run to you.

I beat this game in 90 minutes. A boring 90 minutes. The gunplay is very uninteresting, the weapon selection is lacking, and the level design is uninspired. There is almost no music and the sound design of the weapons and voices is very unmotivated. This game is not worth playing even if you can get it for 99 cents like I did.

Avoid.

Ok, so cards on the table when I say that I'm a fan of old, cheesy FPS games and I'm basing my review on this niche predilection.

And boy does this feel old and cheesy.

Graphics (made using the Lithtech Jupiter EX engine which the far superior F.E.A.R. also used) and sound are 'functional' to good, for a game of its age, in so much as you can tell whats going on and what they are meant to represent but don't expect Doom here.

Even on its release it was really just a budget, low quality time waster. It was part of a range of WW2 'shoot the Nazi' nonsense released by the Mastertronic of their day, pocket money masters, City Interactive.

Its got the lot. Everything from screen tearing, linear and mostly bland level design, lousy voice acting, generic blah blah blah story, borderline moron enemy AI, etc etc.

However, as an aficionado of such digital tat I'm gleefully enjoying my time with this.

It runs surprising smoothly for a game of its age and I've not come across any game breaking issues so far, which is more than I can say for a lot of the knowingly broken, cash grab crap on Steam.

It's really not worth the four quid these days but if you can pick it up on discount in a Steam sale then, if you're like me and actively enjoy b-movie quality old FPS's, you could do worse.

Not bad at all. Gunplay is better than almost new FPS - amazing shooting feel like a original DOOM + amazing graphic effects and sounds (thanks to F.E.A.R. engine). Yes, game is short (circa 2,5 hours), but for the price in sale (cca 1 dollar) is very good deal. Because gameplay is fun for whole time.

I attempted to play the game and immediately liked the old-school feel of older war games in the WW2 setting.

However, it appears that CI Games has turned off the 'saving' function. I noticed that when dying in-game on the first mission, I had to restart the mission because saving the game did not work. I also experienced this saving issue in CI Games' 'Royal Marine Commandos', where I could not also save and ultimately uninstalled the game after three play-through's.

I have uninstalled the game, and do not recommend it to anyone.

Typical Century Old Scool WW2 FPS. Decent story Single Player. Very playable, with Old School GFX. If you like games of the 2K era (COD, MOHAA) then OK. I have bought a few Century Games now, which I do enjoy playing. They are cheap and cheerful, and the way to spend a few hours.

A bit of mindless badguy shooting in a WW2 setting. Mow them down with a supressed Sten SMG,MP-40,STG44,scoped and unscoped Kar-98k. The knife is practically useless because the moment the first enemy dies, everyone will be aware of you,so don't bother with stealth. Thankfully the gunplay is pretty decent,so that shouldn't be a problem. You also get a Luger which is hillariously OP,it's got a 15(!) round mag compared to the 8 that the IRL version has,and close to mid range it usually oneshots enemies on normal difficulty, and you start off with 150 rounds, more than twice of what you get for the Sten, lol. The game is short, and it's definetely not a AAA release, but considering the pricetag(when it's on sale) I think it's a pretty decent deal.

4.0/10 - Like shooting fish in a barrel

For an old game, Operation Thunderstorm runs surprisingly poorly on a modern computer setup. Luckily, there are quite a lot of settings to play with, which allows you to minimize performance issues.

The game contains many cool ideas that are poorly executed. Though it might appeal to some FPS connoisseurs who know what they are getting into, I cannot recommend it at the current full price of $4.50 (I would suggest waiting for a discount of at least 80%!)

While marketed and sold as a fanciful historical WWII FPS, Operation Thunderstorm is in fact no more than a digital shooting range with light walking simulator elements and the framework for a story tacked on. The maps consist of empty mazes, but are linear in the sense that there is only ever one path that will progress the objective; as a result, there is no incentive to go exploring.
Since you are seldom in any space larger than a narrow corridor, this also means that there is very little replay value, because the game does not really allow for any different approaches. The only real challenge to be had, beyond training your reaction speed, eye to hand coordination and ability to memorize mazes, is speed running the game on hard difficulty, which should not take you very long, as the game takes roughly two hours to beat normally.

And while we're on the subject of speed, it is interesting to note that you actually seem to move marginally faster while crouched than while walking. Though crouching may not slow you down, it certainly also does not help your stealth, since your character seems to go on missions with bells tied to a uniform made out of crispy paper bags... What's the point of giving you a knife, if you can't get within earshot of an enemy without alerting them (except for some scripted sleeping and drunk ones)?

As if your conspicuous disposition wasn't bad enough, you also seem to be haunted by some ghost, who keeps closing doors shortly after you open them. This is annoying for two reasons: firstly, it means you can't orientate yourself using doors that you have opened, and secondly, it can actually lead to your grenades being flung back in your face, if the door closes just as you are throwing (I died this way several times). Even when the latter doesn't happen, grenades are not a weapon of choice, since they never seem to be anywhere near the position you are aiming at.

I suspect the ghost haunting you is also the one who steals your ammunition once in awhile, as magazines certainly seem to go missing at random. A few invisible walls form another, lesser annoyance, as do the enemies themselves.

There are actually several problems with the enemies. For one thing, they die too easily. I suspect there is some sort of aim-assistance, as the recoil from machinegun always seems to bring the enemy between my crosshairs, but perhaps it is matter of overly large hitboxes, or even just reaction speed and luck combined with enemies having very little health.
The real game-breaking problem with the enemies, however, is that their AI is so incredibly poor. They take no initiative in following you or searching, they do not reposition to get a better shot at you, they do not coordinate at all, and half the time they don't even look for cover.

The reason I consider the enemy AI the biggest flaw in the game, is because it undermines exactly the parts where the game shines, namely awesome environmental interactions, such as enemies dropping explosive barrels on you or falling through balustrades. For instance, what is the point of adding dangling power cables next to containers of fuel or water, if the enemy is so stupid that he refuses to follow you to the place where you can incinerate or electrocute him?
There are so many such instances of wasted potential, where the developers had come up with a good concept, but then the AI just ruins it in practice. For a student project, I'd say this game would be a (grand) success, but for a marketable game, I find it lacking.

Finally, I want to deplore the fact that the Steam version has removed all the swastikas which were in the original game (though other Nazi iconography remains untouched, as far as I can tell). Blood and gore have also been censored.

TL;DR: Good concepts, bad execution. Short, overpriced. No stealth. Don't use grenades. Some minor bugs. Weak enemies, stupid AI. Swastikas and viscera censored.

Screen tearing, unimaginative level design, boring generic story, awful voice acting, sluggish controls, tard AI.

Operation Thunderstorm might be passable if it was released in the 90's, but nowadays it server little more than to make whatever poor sodding kid who received it for Christmas want to claw their own eyes out.

This is pretty much a straightforward shooter game. In this story you play the role of a secret agent on a misssion to assassinate some high ranking Nazi officials. However before you can get to them you have to shoot your way past a bunch of their lower ranking minions.

Nothing really outstanding or original that would set it apart from other games of the same type. However it's easy to play, engrossing and enjoyable. Great for those who want something simple and uncomplicated.

You play as the grandfather of the FEAR protagonist, Point Man. You are working with the OSS and tasked with assassinating three key Nazi figures to undermine the strength of the German war machine. The game is quite literally FEAR minus the slow-mo, even the parallax mapped bullet holes and sparks remain. Levels are ripe with Condemned and FEAR assets with a splash of CoD2 inspired flare, and at times it can all look quite good. If you enjoy fast-paced shootouts and beautiful hard lighting, this two hour long adventure is for you. It's not perfect by any means, but it's worth a shot.

It would be nice if CI went back and uncensored this game... I can understand not including the swastikas, but there was no reason to remove the blood! Especially considering your other titles like Royal Marines Commando feature both blood and swastikas. As far as I can tell, the Steam version is the only copy of Operation Thunderstorm to have the blood and other imagery removed, previous versions are uneffected.
