Über das Spiel

Fantastic Champions
Stufenaufstieg

1. The Maps: Literally every single map is bugged as hell. You want to escape (a core game mechanic)? You want to use some of your abilities without staying on an all-clear field? Too bad the models are not the same as the things you see. Being stuck in every object sucks. They rework them sometimes but like the most recent rework it’s just the design which changes or minor “upgrades” that are actually mostly downgrades.
2. The Champs: Some of them are playable and fair. But holy cow what ever happened to Yagorath. She’s the tallest champ so far and even to tall to stand underneath some bridges which is unlucky because she can only attack while standing. She is so bad as a champ but at least her design is somewhat creative. What do you think of a champ who could one hit you easily as a not-tank? Too bad there is Kinessa. Oh and she can teleport too. Or do you want a totally OP-Champ who’s nerf was totally useless? Yeah, Octavia is here. What do you think of a healer who can stun and does more dmg than some damage champs? We love playing Grover who can even heal himself. I guess tanks are pretty balanced overall. But sadly champions like Tyra exist. I mean her molotov is like the hell for every tank player. You can’t do shit against it and it kills you in an instant. Even the other abilities are strong too. Seriously remove this girl from the game. You can’t play Ruckus and Torvald as solo tanks because they just are so bad. I feel like Torvald is more a supporter than a tank. And let me tell you something about Grohk. As a healer he is totally solid. But when it comes to playing him as damage. His shots bounce around and hit everyone even when you have a shield. When he is ingame he usually has the most damage. But luckily he doesn't have an ability that makes him invincible - Oh wait... Oh yeah and my former main is pretty overpowered too. Lian has like 100 different abilities that autoaim you to dead. You can't do shit against it unless you have a shield. And Atlas is just the most OP champ right now. Seriously, I think the only way to fix him is to remove him completely. The champs only get nerfed or buffed if a new champion comes out and sometimes champions that are already balanced get nerfed and those who are already too strong get buffed. Or the nerfs aren’t enough to balance a champ. But they can't remove any of them because they had to remove like 20-30% of all champs.
3. The Ults: Some ults are really nice but there are ones like Pip’s which turns you into some bird (?) with like 1 hp (ok it’s 1500 but still relatively low). Jenos ult is a obvious cylindrical shape but however it hits you even if you are like 10 meters away from the beam. Normally you would get a little symbol if you are close to a ult of Dredge, Seris or Terminus. But sometimes the game thinks it would be funnier without it. And then you DIE. Drogoz ult doesn't need any skills because you just fly into the tank and he dies instantly. But luckily he only has the ult like 2 times every round (so roughly 8-10 times a match) even without the item that gives him faster ults. The cause why I wrote this text actually is a Ult or more a bug resulting from it. I got shot by Io’s Ult and was smashed into a wall. After that I was slow and the enemies couldn’t attack me. Also I couldn’t capture the point anymore which is unlucky as the tank when the enemy team has 99% in overtime. This was definitely not the only laggy ultimate I experienced.
4. The Playerbase/Community: Like in Overwatch the most common pick is the damage and/or flank. Usually you have like 3 damage in the first two seconds. Which is really annoying for players like me looking what my team plays. In the end I usually get tank and only sometimes healer. The guys firstpicking damage are the first to blame others in the chat. It’s usually the healers fault but never the dps’. Allthough it’s mostly the damage who fucks up but more to that later. Overall the people are toxic.
5. The Matchmaking: Everything wrong with that. I never played ranked and I’m honestly not the best player (lvl 230 which sounds much but is actually not even close to some players) but I often have to play against Grandmasters or Masters (the two highest ranks). My team is usually somewhere around level 80 or just straight up bad. My final game (as of now) was with a lvl 7 dude who randomly got in my team allthough nobody else was this low. Without my mate (lvl 700) who carries the game I would lose maybe every time.
6. Others: The game has a battle pass and you can even finance a new battle pass with the old one. Until 2 champions ago (there is one new champion roughly every three months) it had 120 level with 8 nice skins and several other prices like titles or avatars and it was easy to finish. Now the battle pass has only 24 level with 4 skins and costs 400 instead of 600 crystals (I think. The other 4 skins you can only get by buying some chests and gambling to get the right skin. Also they added some new challenges where you are forced to play rank to finance the next battle pass because 60% or something of the crystals are in those challenges. Unlucky for every casual player like me. I feel like Hirez doesn’t care about the game anymore. If they ever did. But who am I to judge.
Even though there are many sad and bad things I had some fun which is why I played the game for some hours. But nevertheless I quit the game twice for six months each and even uninstalled it. And I don’t think it will stay on this. I will not recommend it to anyone. But this is all my opinion based on facts. Regardless of what I said, like in every other game you have to make the decision yourself. It’s free so try it.
Have fun, I guess...

Oh and the matchmaking literally makes no sense you could actually be gold and on a level 20 account and get matched with the #1 world champion as no joke it happened to me. Despite this hi rez reduces your party to 2 once you reach diamond and makes it so that low elo players cant queue with hi elo friends, even though you could queue snipe each-other with like 50% accuracy regardless of your rank. The devs even admitted to having a system that auto fills the queue after like 7 minutes, which it gets up to consistently in high elo, - scratch that - plat players get queues of like 7+ mins daily.
Coming from a consistent Diamond player who never really tried getting farther from that.
It sucks leaving this game as I haven't really found a good alternative, playing any other hero shooter make them feel really slow and aimless in terms of objectives. I felt like games in Overwatch didn't engage me constantly and when it did, it didn't compare to peak compared to paladins. Also TF2 didn't really cut it for me, I dunno why.

Anywho on to the negatives, bugs are annoying, due to it being free to play the uuhh community is pretty frustrating. No killcam which sucks hard. REALLLY grindy ways to get even ONE skin and like the bounty store breaks every goddamn two weeks etc. That and the game takes forever to start, and is really clunky when it comes to alt tabbing in and out of it and random crashes kinda blow. That's about it from me, Great game to play with friends, but please don't spend hours on end playing you'll just frustrate yourself.

+ Not pay-to-win
+ Fun and laid-back
+ Nice and unique champions
+ Different game modes
- Takes too long to buy a champion
- Skins are very pricey
- Some things are very unbalanced
It's a nice game. Free to play, although buying champions without spending money takes A LOT of time. There are some bugs, glitches and problems in the game. But overall, the game itself is fun, laid back and a nice way to spend your time. Different fun gamemodes, cool champions and lovely designs. If you don't take the game too serious it's very fun. Sometimes broken hitboxes can be very tilting though.

I cannot recommend it now though. It's in the worse state it's ever been.
Unreliable servers, toxic community, multiple broken and/or power-creep champion design, extremely manipulative and greedy battle pass changes (forcing you to play 3+ hours everyday)... I could go on.
A shadow of the game it once was. Hi-Rez and Evil Mojo should be ashamed. They've ruined a great game.
Uninstalled. It was fun while it lasted. Bye.

[Edit: I had to turn comments off due to the fact players would enter without the facts and would slander the game. The game was released in the same year as Overwatch, people forget this. The game was released in 2016, same with Overwatch. Overwatch had a much larger production team so the game was able to release at a much more rushed state. If you are reading reviews about this game being a clone, it isn't. A clone is a game released well after another one because it was popular. Paladins and Overwatch were both in production around the same time and released (4 months apart) so it isn't a clone. Lastly, the multiple comments I got about the lootbox systems is: This game awards you for completing games, challenges, etc and partaking in the battlepass. Overwatch has a simple lootbox system to award skins. Paladins does require a lot more work to get skins for free compared to Overwatch. The only reason Overwatch is like this is because you have to buy the game to get the ability to earn the skins while this game is free and just requires playtime. This review has gained popularity which is why I disabled comments due to the excessive amount of hostile comments coming from players just generally mad at the Overwatch community dying due to lack of content, especially right after Paladins receives yet another new playable character.]

To start off, this game is NOT an Overwatch clone. It's easy to see that from the outside looking in, but once you play your first game, the differences between the two are like night and day. The advantage Paladins has over a game like Overwatch is the fact that each Champion can have a multitude of different playstyles. With Overwatch, each hero has one single playstyle, and that's it.
Obviously a AAA title like Overwatch is going to be a lot more polished with next to no bugs, good graphics, and reliable servers. Paladins is on the other side of the coin when it comes to this. With quite a few bugs, above average graphics, and pretty bad servers. But what Paladins suffers in company backing, it excels in gameplay. The uniqueness of Paladins is the sole reason why I have played since mid-late 2018. Ask any Paladins player with over 500 hours in paladins how the feel about the game and what will they say? Something among the lines of; The servers are frustrating or the meta is sometimes dumb, but the game is just fun.
The game might make me wanna kill myself at some points, and sometimes there are some rat players, but this game isn't one that I can just put down.

Based in a world of elves, abyssal entities and all other sorts of creatures, Paladins debuts maps that spread across the realm, from the scorching heats of the Shattered Desert to the piercing frostbites of Frozen Guard, with beautiful aesthetics and details. I'm especially impressed how they have spent 2020 redesigning older maps to meet the newer standards.
The game has several gamemodes, including custom matches, however I wouldn't say that it is the strongest point to convince you on.
The best part is the ability to customise each character through loadout cards, talents and items in game. This will allow you to turn the support champion Seris into a flanking nightmare, or turn the cuddly Lepori, Moji into a team healer.
The possibilities really do feel endless in this game.
I must admit, however, that Paladins does have its downsides. The bugs are consistently there despite their strong attempts to remove as many as possible, hitboxes on characters and maps make you feel cheated out of a kill or fight and the community is often toxic, at least from my experience of being a player for almost 3 1/2 years now.
Nevertheless I do suggest that anyone should give Paladins a try and decide for themselves whether it really is an Overwatch clone or if it has the unique potential to succeed in upcoming years as more and more hero shooters begin to compete in the genre.
Thanks for reading my review.

What makes Paladins special is its unique Card system, which allows you to customize each and every hero with your personal play style. It’s rare that you’ll see two players using a certain hero the same way, and this makes the game less stale overtime than other similar offerings. Because of this, each and every game ends up playing differently, and this is exactly what I love about the game.
The in game economy is based on cosmetic only loot boxes, which means that despite being free to play and not counting individual skill, no player will ever be stronger than another.
The game receives updates, events and new heroes extremely frequently. Even though some bugs and glitches tend to stay longer than necessary at times, they rarely become game breaking or end up taking away from the enjoyment of the game.
Paladins is a free to play title that simply doesn’t feel like one, and this balance is very difficult to achieve nowadays. A well crafted card system, colorful heroes and good shooting mechanics make this game a joy to play, allowing it to stand out among the crowd of otherwise stale titles offered by much more renowned names in the industry.

I have over 1 300 hours in this game and found lots of great people in it, with whom I love to play with but... the toxicity of playerbase in paladins is just damn too high. It is so high that I tend to constantly find new great people to play it with, just to find out later that they quit it after investing few months of their time, out of sheer frustration. And it roots from two things - lots of lost games due things players cannot control and toxicity around them.
Toxicity is actually created by the game itself. Just look at this mechanic:
1) You wait 1-2 minutes to find lobby after queuing.
2) Then you spend around 5 minutes (sometimes even longer) to choose champions and disscuss strategy a bit.
3) Then you wait around 1-2 minute for it to load.
4) Then you wait a bit for match to start while you prepare in spawn room for match which last around:
- 8 minutes, if literally enemies let you push objectives without almost any struggle,
- 15 minutes if one side is winning but youhave some nice fighting going on.
- 25 minutes if both sides are so balanced that neither can get point till last possible minute.
That gives us between 15 minutes to 34 for one game. And here comes the problem... sometimes you actually don't want to play that particular match. And you cannot quit. Maybe you get troll who picked in that first 2 minutes of game 3th tank and you know for 300% it will not work. Maybe someone disconects in first minutes of match and stand in spawn room not moving for rest of the match. Maybe he is actually not afk, but just writting on chat how bad others play and he won't help team.... etc etc etc. But you cannot quit - there is just no option to do it normally. So you get stuck sometimes even for a half an hour in matches you just constatly think about quiting match. But if you do, both your team and you will suffer for it - they need to finish match with constant disadvantage of having 4vs5 which is impossible situation if enemies are not total noobs, and you will get banned from queuing for next matches. That punishment actually gets bigger and bigger with each time you quit (it can even get longer time that one hour). If you play ranked game, you also lose points... which is extra frustrating since if you stayed you had small chance to not lose them, but if you quit you will lose them for sure. So you start to blame others.
It became so bad recently that every second or third match is won or lost due to having AFK, trolling, disconnected or just refusing to play dude in one of the teams.
To sum up, this game mechanic create vicious circle:
1) Some people get disconnected due to internet problems, game crashing (also happens) or just pick wrong champion in the lobby before match started. This makes all other 4 people stick in an unbalanced, frustrating match fo an half an hour.
2) Next match you just get inexperienced teammates... and you lose again.
3) Repeat that few times -> people will actually think they are doing good job by flaming other people mistakes. At least they feel a bit better and other frustrated people in team will agree with them.
4) More toxic players, create more matches with first situation, but now its due to them trolling or just refusing to play.
This create more and more toxicity.
And it is such a shame that it happens in this particular game. It has some really simple, easy and cool mechanics to grasp but also has many niuances harder to understand. Thx to that you can quickly get into playing it but also don't run into problem that you cannot improve your playstyle - there is always something you could do better or maybe way to help your team to win. It has impressive number of different champions, with more comming every now and then. And even the champions themselves can be played in totally different styles since each get 3 talents which hugely change how you use their skills, then you have cards system where you create different loadouts allowing you to emphasize different strenghs of your character. This allows you to not only adjust them to your playstyle, but also adjust them according to what enemies can do. Thanks to that, the game require some more strategic thinking than many others shooters... on the flip side, lots of characters and options for them create many unbalanced situations. And with such a huge number of them, many good options are actually regarded by people as bad, because they require some different playstyles to actually benefit from.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In short - great gameplay with huge problems of toxicity created by game mechanics itself, with impressive variety of playstyle which gets a bit clunky due to unbalanced characters.
Right now, I can only recommend playing it with few friends. Playing solo will be way too frustrating.
Pros:
+ It is free
+ Addicting, gives you nice rush of adrenaline you want more
+ Simple, easy, cool mechanics
+ Cards and talent system allowing unique playstyles and variety
+ Heavy emphasis on teamplay
+ Impresive list of champions with very unique playstyles
+ Include playstyles involving something else that pure reflex and godly accuracy
+ Punishes stupidity and reward strategic thinking
Cons:
- It is free -> no cost allows banned players to just create new account
- Addicting, gives you nice rush of adrenaline you want more... and more
- Toxicity created by game mechanics
- Every second or third match is lost or won due to AFK, trolling or flaming player.
- More than half of talents and cards are either bad or totally useless
- Not very balanced champions
- While it has anti-cheat protection, you still see cheaters around
- No options to quit or forfeit match
- No mechanic to replace disconnected player or even-out unbalanced matches
- Time consuming, it is hard to play casually

Every single game is either you are getting rolled or you roll enemy team like they are toddlers in a gunfight, playing Strix on your skill level and getting 42/2 doesn't seem balanced to me, since I am mega bad ar Strix and I barely even aim.Balanced games are very rare and probably never happen. I play this game since the ancient times and this was a thing back in the day, but this game is FULLY released and it stll holds same issues as back then, the problem is also in the characters of the game which are either super useless or mega overpowered, having 80% of champions being stupidly OP wont make the game balanced at all, in fact, it makes all the engagements with such heroes (ex. Moji) annoying and you really wish enemy player died of cancer just because they play this specific character, this game received nothing interesting throughout years, but a decent menu UI and sh*t ton of content u need to pay for

Why am I talking about OW in a paladins review? It's because while Paladins is far from a perfect game - I could've been having actual fun in a much better hero shooter Paladins all this time. It's not as polished but come on you can buy stun immunity mid-game if the enemy spams stuns, healers get active fun FPS gameplay and tanks actually do more than deathball on points. If you only wanna play one character, you can but admittedly you still won't have a great ranked experience doing this. Thankfully Paladins casual mode is a lot of fun though !
For all it's problems and flaws - mostly related to lack of polish, bugs and hi-rez typical f2p nonsense. I'd recommend it if you were hyped for OW and wanted something closer to dota or tf2.

Paladins is a free-to-play first person shooter MOBA where you face off one another in a 5v5 scenario, be it competitive where you and your not-so-trustworthy team capture and push an objective or casual where you just want to shoot someone in the face. It has its many charm and unique features but had its wings clipped by imcompetence. Let’s begin, shall we?
**It is more than a ripoff**
To say that the game Paladins is a copy of other games of similar genre such as the renowned Overwatch by Blizzard Entertainment and Team Fortress 2 by Valve is an awful misjudgement based on face value. Claiming as such is like saying that the burgers of McDonald and Burger King are the same and a ripoff of one another. Perhaps is a marketing strategy by EvilMojo, the developer team of the game, to post their game after the release of Overwatch after some time, 4 months to be specific.
**So…what makes it different from the others?**
First and foremost, there’s the unique trait that is the loudout system which brings upon much flexibity and creative playstyle for every playable character in the game. You can be a one skill pony or a master of none, a dedicated healer or a healer that keeps your team healthy by making sure the enemies are dead etc. Each character feels really personalised and that touches my heart, even the art in those loudout cards tells you more about the character you are using. Moreover, the variety of character is pleasing at the least.
**A more fantasy driven character design**
The game sure has a fine cast of playable characters, from a dragon with a rocket launcher whilst flying via jet wings, an angry tree dude, a living walking self-proclaim ‘king’ bomb who is dummy THICC, a witch doctor with a god-imbued snake as both his pet and weapon just to name a few of the 40 available character. It definitely appeals to a wide audience, some of them looks abit sexualised but that’s how video game industry works. Now lets get into the more mediocre part of the game itself.
**Lore (The part where some players really like to get into)**
Ironically after praising how personalised the loudout system makes me feel, the lore is decent at the best. It isn’t mind blowing or impressive like Sherlock Holmes’ plot twists either, that’s all I can say. It isn’t completely written nonchalantly as there are interesting relation between some characters hidden throughout the game. The maps in the game are even based off the lore itself, so is safe to say that the developers did not give out lore just for the sake of filling the lore text of the character. Just that there are many unreasoned incidents not well explained why it happened, it is missing one of the big W of the 5 W which is When, Where, What, Who and WHYYYYYYY. Now lets get to the part where is truly unreasonable…
**Is this game still in Beta?**
If I ever downvote this game it will be this reason and this sole reason alone is enough to turn a wonderous experience into a hellish cesspool of frustration. Come on EvilMojo Jojo studio, everything has its standard, the tolerable amount of bugs is also one of them and you clearly did not reach that minimum level, yet you label this game “out of beta”. Not a single day I was in ease when I play or even just LAUNCHING Paladins.exe. This also isn’t just me saying it, there have been complaints about it for years now from the community itself. I am very confident that if they manage to fix the bugs in this game, this is a pretty solid free-to-play game that I would truly recommend, before that is just a Lambogini with an out-of-state engine.
**The Cake Verdict**
Is like eating a nicely done cake, but due to the lack of hygiene, there are dirt bits inside the cake that just prevents you from enjoying the cake fully.

They bumped up champions prices so peoples practicaly can't save up for them in in-game currency as casuals
champs are very unbalanced, there are some that are broken and some that aren't useful at all, there is also a lot of stuff to work on in ranked mode.
Apart from that the game is fun and compelling.
