Prince of Persia
Spielesammlung
(wiki)

Anyway, Prince of Persia, it's alright I suppose. They took the classic Prince of Persia formula, see the Sands of Time which remains one of the best games I've ever played, and made a more pure platformer out of it. Platforming was always the key element of these games but there was a broader experience. This game falls more in line with your Spyros or Crash Bandicoots. I might prefer the other formula but this one ended up working fine. Its not always as fluid as I might wish. It certainly didn't feel optimized for PC but at its high points it was fun. I do have to mention that the platforming got immensely repetitive as the game progressed. The elements they add on to vary it up, with the exception of one, are little more than powers that have you push a button within a very generous window and watch a glorified cutscene. As a result, the midpoint of the game was the most enjoyable, when I was mostly finished wrestling with the controls and not yet tired of the monotonous formula. It ended up feeling rather shallow, especially when compared to the Sands of Time's revolutionary platforming. It's not bad but the challenge and complexity are largely just not there.
Platforming isn't the only thing the game has though. It has combat too! And, well, its fine not great. A combo based system with occasional situational enemy abilities that force you to mix it up ends up working but not really elevating. Not much to say really. It's clunky but they do enough with it that it can end up feeling pretty satisfying. They also diversified these encounters more than the platforming, which I for one appreciated.
Helping you along in your platforming and swordfighting endeavors is Elika, who is the only other significant character (okay, there's one more) in the game. No, really, there's about three characters, one of which barely shows up. You and Elika explore an empty kingdom trying to find sacred grounds (I think that's what they were called) in an effort to reseal a dark god. The emptiness kind of works actually. The game is quite pretty, even all these years later and it leads to some quite cinematic views. You (the prince?) also interact with Elika quite a bit, which is generally written well enough, though it feels less like two people from what is presumably the Persian area conversing and more like two modern twenty somethings. That's pretty minor, though. Overall, the conversational quips help center the experience around these two characters well enough so that the empty world works fairly well around them.
I don't want to spoil anything, but the ending to this game was one of the more uniquely handled conclusions I've yet seen, and it earns praise for that alone. I feel it's worth mentioning because it certainly made me think for a little bit. Not that long, but very few games even accomplish that much.
Overall, it's a pretty good game that could have been great had they done more with the platforming (you know, the core mechanic). The story, characters, and writing, which are all okay to great, help make up for points where the gameplay can feel lackluster. I give it a 6/10

Pros:
Even for 2019 the visuals are beautiful. Mix of Cell animation and vanilla textures.
The story gets you hooked, you can relate with the characters, and they're pretty well fleshed out.
The controls took a little getting used to, but once you do, the movements are very fluid.
I can honestly say for a game that came out in 2008 it still holds water even now in 2019.
Cons:
Combat didn't suck, but once you get it down its pretty repetitive.
Camera angles are often very tricky, causing the player to miss and the repetition of doing a level repeatedly can take away to game play.
(no spoiler) Yellow Power plate is the stuff of nightmares. If you pick up the game you will immediately know what I'm talking about.
I'll end it simply saying, if you pick this up on the cheap, which i think would be the case now even if its at full price, and have the time for it, I would say pick it up. There is a lot to love about the game, but for me there was more to hate. That's the best I can do without spoilers. No I personally wouldn't recommend. Its like seeing a movie I didn't like and not talking someone out of it. But maybe this one's for you.

Most of all, I have sentimental feelings towards this title, as I played it a couple of years ago on Xbox.
And although the game has really simple mechanics, it doesn't drive me away form enjoying it as much as any other, more complex games. Most of all I think that the story itself matters the most. Surely I can say that it is great and I cannot wait to finish the whole game ; get to an end of those exciting events.
Would recommend to everyone who likes older graphics ( as the game is from 2007 ) and prefers to focus more on the storyline and views rather than learn all the different, difficult control system combinations ^^

The simplicity of the gameplay combined with the artificial game lengtheners that Ubisoft likes to plague its games with, makes for a journey that you just wish to be over with as soon as possible.
The combat, or the lack thereof, puts the games pace to a crawl between the fun boss sections. You only get to fight one enemy in between maps and the rest is just platforming.
Despite all of the weird pacing issues the game itself is not too long so if you got 6h to spare it'll be a pleasant ride. However if you're here expecting a POP game first and foremost, you're most likely gonna end your playthrough in disappointment.

A must buy if you are fan of this franchise, i had never played this game or any other of this franchise, kind of missed out on it. i was skeptical about buying a game from 2008, but it was surprisingly good, slow paced, kinda repetitive and monotonous, but cant blame the game. even after 11 years of release it amused me for many hours and i took my own time completing it.

I played this when I was a kid, feels great to buy it and re-do the game again.
Movement is smooth, combat is fun, humour is great and most importantly, Elika is hot.

The platforming is generic and unchallenging and the story itself is ok (even if extremely generic) but the ending is just horrible. ~SPOILER~
I wanted the Prince to become a better man with Elika's influence but he just ends up releasing the monster they worked so hard to banish just to save her once again... I wanted Elika's father to give his life in change of hers or even for the good God that they're always mentioning to give her life back but what we get is a bitter bitter ending
.
It's a shame that this game didn't really meet my expectations. I've always loved the art style but that doesn't really make up for all the other flaws.

As a game, it doesn't deliver what it needs to be a good one. The mission structure is highly repetitive. The platforming isn't quite challenging in terms of complexity. There's not much to interact with in the world other than for traversal purpose. The combat is no more than a sequence of QTE.
Although, as an art piece, it does deliver. The stylized art ages like a fine wine. It feels like a realized 3D watercolor painting. The city is beautifully designed, it gives you the massive sense of scale. Traversing the world feels like one continuous set of dance. Animation transit fluidly between input. The script and voice acting are engaging enough to keep you entertained until the end. The dynamic between Prince and Elika is kind of entertaining. It also has one of the best soundtrack which will take you straight to the other world. The ending is quite a roller coaster. Overall, the game solidly delivers a beautiful experience with a high sense of magical feeling to it.

The story started on the spot which doesn't give you a breather to simmer it, but at least they redeemed the pace halfway through it. If I remember correctly, Prince wasn't that humorous which is the exact opposite on this game. Uncharted IP still wasn't that big when this was released so Nolan North just acted it out like he was Nathan Drake here.
A really fun and engaging parkour mechanics that easily forgive players if they fail. There a lot of features from the Trilogy (which I played on PS2) that carries to this game; most noticeable were the one on one combat that in some way - I love or hate on that series. They somehow scrap the 'Sands' which is the main focus of its predecessor and switched it with a magical theme.
An immense beautiful world not just in a graphical way, but also the design and landscape point. In General, this is the kind of game where you just lost time while having enjoyment playing it.

Good times on the Xbox 360.
I never did beat the game and for its current price its not a terrible deal. I recommend it.
Been playing with the Xbox One controller. I believe when I plugged the Xbox 360 USB it updated the drivers and now the games see the Xbox One as a 360 controller and the game now controls well. Originally my Xbox One controller would not work well with the game since the right thumb stick reacted like a mouse cursor so I was not able to play properly.
Yeah weird but if anyone has the issue as I did hope this helps

The cell-shading effect is very good, I have not found anything in the game that I did not like, everything is excellent. There is only a small detail a bit ugly, the shadows are many mountain peaks, but well, esdel 2008!
The soundtrack I liked it because it fits perfectly with the atmosphere every time I hear music I get wanting to play jajaj.
ABSTRACT: This game is a 100/100, although I liked, nothing m disappointed, now you can find for less than € 20, you know, buy it. Collapse

Great art-style, fun traversal mechanics.
The combat looks and feels cool, but often feels like a glorified QTE fest instead of a dynamic system like in previous entries. The bossfights are also kinda lacking and feels too easy as well.
The story and the dynamic between the Prince and Elika basically carry the whole thing. Recommended on a sale.

Let me begin this review by saying I have mixed feelings with this game and if Steam had an option to give a neutral rating that’s what I would have done here.
Starting with visuals, this game looks beautiful! It could be the most beautiful game in Prince of Persia series up-to date (we’ll see how the Sands of Time Remake stacks up against this one). The art direction is great! The music is good and the calm music got stuck inside my head, great job by Inon Zur (also the composer of Fallout 3 and 4). The gameplay is solid, platforming is fluid and works smoothly. The voice acting is very charming.
Elika is my favorite part of this game and her character is very deeply integrated into the gameplay as well as the story. In fact, the chemistry and interactions between Elika and Prince is the only thing that kept me deleting this game altogether. The voice actress for Elika did a great job with voice acting and displaying the emotions of the character throughout the game. She has an even greater role in the story and gameplay. Nolan North did a fantastic job in voicing the unnamed Prince whose name is not revealed in the game. I must add the voice acting for Price felt a bit too corny because the whole time it felt like Nolan North was playing Nathan Drake with jokes and childish humor every 30 seconds. The good thing about it is that it works for this reboot.
You might feel a bit disconnected if you play this game back-to-back with other Prince of Persia games as the Prince has never been a cocky and funny character! Ubisoft decided to make this into a full reboot from scratch going so far as to completely avoid talking or giving any kind of references to the Sands of Time trilogy or talking about Prince’s backstory, his origins or any mention of details like the Dagger of Time.
The combat is completely different from other Prince of Persia games. Ubisoft decided to switch to one-on-one fights as opposed to fighting hordes of enemies at any time, as in the Sands of Time, Warrior Within and The Two Thrones. There are many changes which makes this a very unique game especially coming from a Western developer. You do not die in this game, Elika comes to your rescues every time you fall off the cliff or lose your health. I found it interesting…She also helps you fight during combat and her character can be upgraded using skill points. Elika is pretty fun to have around.
POP is one of my favorite game series and as a kid I would replay the classic Prince of Persia games several times a year on my PC and cousins Playstation 2. However, I’d have to be honest with you guys. It seemed like a great game for the first two hours or so but as I kept playing more, I noticed the cracks.
Now comes the ugliest part. Part of the reason why I won’t recommend this game to anyone is because how boring this game gets! Prince of Persia has a very reasonable length of 15-20 hours but it felt like I’ve wasted 60 hours doing the same repetitive tasks. Unlocking new areas requires you to grind for light seeds which was a pain. The progression is extremely repetitive, dull and boring. When people say Ubisoft games are repetitive and boring it's THIS RIGHT HERE!! Combat only includes boss fights and this might feel like a good thing but it gets worse when I’ll tell you that there are just 4 bosses as far as I remember and you have to fight them over and over and over. I didn’t count how many times you’re supposed to fight each big bad but it’s about 5 times each (so you’re supposed to fight the same four bosses for about 20 times with occasional one-on-one fight against the main antagonist.
The story isn’t interested. Common themes include corruption and greed. Nothing new…There’s a strong message there but the execution isn’t handled very well. It’s really disappointing to give this a negative review especially considering the effort went into making this reboot. I wished they had turned this into an animated show with the same cell shaded visuals and voice actors!
Also, the PC version lacks the game’s true ending…. I know my reaction would be the same as you. The main game ends with let’s just say a cliffhanger and there’s a console exclusive DLC that continues the story. Also, if you were wondering to get the game on PS3 solely for the ending don’t bother as it doesn’t get anywhere. Ubisoft hasn’t provided an answer to why they chose to skip Epilogue on PC. Poor sales might be my best guess! The devs originally designed to make this into a two-player co-op experience but later ditched the idea and instead opted to make Elika an A.I controlled companion. I’m glad they chose to go this route.
Final Thoughts
There’s no edgelord rock or any epic moments we’ve come to love and expect from a Prince of Persia game but there’s a great game somewhere in there in this reboot. If you’re willing to grind to the end then you should probably keep an eye out for this during a sale.
