Prodeus ist ein klassischer First-Person-Shooter, der mit modernen Rendering-Techniken runderneuert wurde. Er erzielt die Qualität, die man von einem AAA-Titel erwartet, wobei er einigen ästhetischen technischen Limits älterer Hardware treu bleibt.

Was Prodeus besser kann als alle anderen Retroshooter: Kennt ihr das Gefühl, wenn ihr heutzutage DOOM, Duke-Nukem, Quake und Konsorten wieder anspielt? Irgendwie hatte man das besser, spektakulärer und fetziger in Erinnerung. Prodeus spielt sich so, wie ihr meint, dass die o.g. Spiele früher waren. Dieses Spiel ist wie ein technisch extrem ausgereiftes Quake im DOOM-Setting, so als hätte man die Entwickler damals einfach bis heute weiter tüfteln lassen.

Das Leveldesign ist fantastisch, die Möglichkeiten zur Umsetzung von ausgefallenen Levelmechaniken und Designs scheinen Grenzenlos. Es gibt sehr viele sehr gute Level die von Spielern gebaut wurden.
Die Waffen sind grandios. Die Minigun ist die beste die es je in irgendeinem Spiel gab, der Granatwerfer erinnert an alte Kindheitstage mit Quake, und die Quattro-Flinte hat mich beim ersten Schuss vor Freude laut lachen lassen :D
Die Gegner sind interessant und mit dem richtigen Level Design herausfordernd, da kann sogar taktisches Vorgehen statt schnellem Rennen hilfreich sein :)

This game is like a mid-90s XXX-Movie on a sunny beach in the caribbean...

Its the showcase of a perfect act, serving your mind exactly what it expects from such a uncensored and raw meatfest. It's build up arround the essential parts, yes i'm still writing about the game :-)
The gunplay, the movement, the maps, the sound, the music, the gore! You just want to enjoy it until the last shot.
If your a fan of 90s FPS like Doom, Duke3D, Quake give thisone a shot. NOW!

Pro:
- Sehr flüssiges Spielgefühl mit klassischem Blutrausch, wie in Doom II
- Jede Menge Blut
- Keine nervigen Rätsel

Contra:
Early Access und seit Monaten kein Update. Die Spieler werden durch Communitymaps bei Laune gehalten, indem regelmäßig neue Wettbewerbe ausgeschrieben werden. Ist wohl irgendwie einfacher, als selbst zu liefern. Dadurch ist die Kampagne nicht einmal ansatzweise spielenswert. Zudem ist die Monsterauswahl recht übersichtlich und es existieren reihenweise ausgegraute Waffenslots, von Kanonen, die über die Planungsphase nie hinausgekommen sind.

Wer heute immer noch Doom 2 mit Brutal Doom Mod spielt und nicht genug davon bekommen kann - hier bist du richtig. Doom 2016 und Doom Eternal sind nett, aber mir fehlt das oldschool Gefühl. Die Liebe zum Detail bei Prodeus ist der Wahnsinn. Absolut bedenkenlose Kaufempfehlung!

There are times when after a hard day, a girl just wants to sit back and shoot some monsters. This game is perfect for that. In all seriousness, the guns are great, and enemies just disintegrate and paint everything red. AND I didn't get lost once. That's saying something as I easily get lost in everyday life and when I play Doom. Not that the levels are straight. They loop back on themselves, but the design is such that you know where you have to go. Highly recommend it if you are a fan of Doom and Quake.

Great game to play if you love doom, gore, guns, and ripping enemies apart and as a bonus you can play custom maps made by players and all you do is download them in game. I can't wait to see this game completed!

If you played liked Doom, Quake, or Duke Nukem 3D, this game is much better than those, while still retaining the feeling and gameplay. Seriously, just get it. It's well worth it.

This game is wonderfully done. A recreation of sorts of the original Doom for DOS and Quake 2 combined into a fast slaughter/shooter. The graphics are great, the music is even better.

This game is way better than Doom Eternal, this is the real deal. There's some retro feel to it but it also works great as modern shooter. If Doom was remade today, it would be this, not Doom Eternal.

It runs perfectly fine on max/4K on PC and macOS/M1 but even better if you have a dedicated GPU. I don't recommend it, I double dare ya. Give it a spin and don't complain you've spent 16 hours glued to the screen.

It certainly feels like AAA title and comes with a very advanced level designer and community to share and play custom campaigns and levels. There's an 'early access' label on it, not sure what's still meant to be added because it does feel polished and ready.

I don't usually pay much attention to sound design, but the visceral sounds of guns, and bullets as they sink into enemy flesh, is the kind of stuff that will send you to the hospital complaining of an erection lasting over four hours.

Listen, I love Doom Eternal, but this is the most Doom game I've played since Doom II. Everything about this game rocks. The graphics, the mobility, the weapons, the maps... it's a classic FPS fan's dream.

Thanks to my best friend for gifting this for my birthday. This game is rad. If you are fan of old school boomer shooters and Doom 2016, this is for you. Brutal Doom + Doom 2016 = this game.

Eğer id software zamanında Doom 3 olarak bu oyunu çıkarmış olsaydı eminim kimse itiraz etmezdi. Katıksız bir 'mindless shooter' olmuş. Hikayesiz fps seviyorsanız mutlaka deneyin!

New doom WISH it was THIS good!
2 hrs in and it has all the good stuff from any doom ever. Guns, gore, levels, secrets, enemies, graphics, music, leaderboards, download custom made levels, etc!

I thought this game looked awful when they first showed it a few years ago, but it's come a long way since. It's got the speed and ferocity of games like Doom, but is very much its own thing. And not only that, the level editor and online features are insane. It's like the Mario Maker of games where zombies and alien monsters explode into gibs and gore. It's a steal at $25.

The good
The modern-rendering-techniques-crunched-through-housebrick-sized-pixels look is shockingly attractive, and even better in motion than in screenshots. It's very well done!

The soundtrack is more Doom 2016 than Doom 1993, but it's undeniably Doom, in all its ridiculousness and glory.

There's a large number of monster types...

The bad
...but it simply doesn't matter, because every single one of them follows the rule of 'run toward player, throw a fireball every three seconds exactly.' Concretely, it plays like the first episode of the first Doom, the one made before they added any power demons in and you're just killing the same three zombies and imps over and over.

The game's take on weapon roles is deeply weird in a very consistent way. The shotgun also has a sniper mode, so it's one of your best short-range weapons and one of your best long-range weapons. The railgun also has a rapid fire mode, so it's strong against single targets and strong against hordes. You could say it's a bold move to shake up trad. weapon roles, but the end result is that weapon choice doesn't matter very much. Whatever you're holding is probably fine against whatever situation you're in. Just keep firing whatever until you run out of bullets, then switch to another whatever.

The ugly
When you die, you're warped to the nearest checkpoint, given 100 hp, and the rest of the level stays as you left it. Or to put it succinctly: you're playing in god mode which can't be switched off. This risk-free gameplay can work in a story-focused game -- it worked for Bioshock -- but in an action-focused retro shooter it is absolute madness, it guts the game of any skill or tension, it is a shocking unforced own goal. I had to hit google to confirm that it was meant to work that way. It felt too silly to believe.

Combined with the homogenised weapon roles and simplistic monsters, it suggests a game which loves the look of classic shooters but has no grasp of how they function.

It is in Early Access and things will no doubt change. But as of now: do not buy: beautiful but brainless.

Amazing game, incredibly fun, handles great with good level design and enjoyable enemies. Fun secrets to find, frantic combat, great gore, amazing feedback on weapons. Just good fun. Not sure it's worth $25 but when you consider community made content, I think it's worth it.

This is one of the best first person shooters to date, and I say that as an old fart who experienced the original Doom and Quake upon release, and have played many, many FPSes since then. Prodeus is pure, glorious carnage and the controls are so responsive and precise that it's hard to go back to most other FPS games without feeling handicapped.

To quote Nostalgia Nerd:
It's incredible, it's life changing. I don't even need to explain why. You can see why. Everything you do is satisfying as hell.

I don't know how the developers (only 2 persons!) accomplished this, but I am in awe. Big kudos to them and please, please, try this game if you like FPSes!

I don't write many reviews, no really, check my account. But this is a game i feel like i have sunken enough hours in to really get a feel for how the game is and how everything as a whole surrounding this game is perfect.
I'll start with how I backed this on Kickstarter because I thought it looked cool. I'm not absolutely huge on classic style FPS's, i did play doom growing up, but it wasn't exactly my entire life. I enjoyed it growing up and that's about as far as that goes.

With that being said, I would just like to extend my absolute LOVE for this game in many different ways, inside and outside of the game.

I have sunken many hours into the game play, the main campaign levels are mega fun, flow well and don't feel like a chore after a certain time in a level. There's a level of freedom within each level but also a direction, so you never ever feel like you're lost, especially when you have the automap to hand. The game is smooth as a whole, there's lots of super cool elements in the game's options too, ranging from having the top graphics possible all the way down to CRT style and pixelated retro feeling video quality. There's a good range of gun's for now with some being simple to understand shooters all the way down to homing bullets and a plasma gun that can change projectile angles.

Moving onto the piece I love the most about this game - the level designer.

I can't lie, probably 250 of the hours in this game have been sunken into designing levels. We're not talking like old school Tony Hawk park editor where you have a floor and just drag and drop items on there then press play, there's a higher level of understanding of how to use the in built editor in prodeus. There's a whole youtube of how to do practically everything but it's VERY rewarding to learn. It felt a little overwhelming at first but some basic understanding followed by hours of continuous use made it so i could make even the most professional looking levels. It's the exact same level design tool that the actual prodeus team use, so you get all of their assets to use just as they would.

But one of the most amazing things aside of this is the discord community.

I have spent countless hours with the actual developers of the game, in an editor hangout, making levels for hours and hours on end. They're there to be friendly, helpful on hand and even watch their stream of them making levels. I have even had them take my level files and improve the optimisation on them and do other harder types of level design improvements and give it back to me, it's honestly amazing interaction from them.

I can't recommend this game enough, seriously.

If you're a gamer: you'll find gore ridden pleasure in stomping the hell out of flying fire spitting demons with your super shotgun

If you're a wannabe level designer: you'll find utter pleasure in the well helped learning process of level design followed by the amazing fun of seeing people test and play your levels...i'm addicted to seeing people on my level leaderboard!

If you've ever played a Doom game and enjoyed it you will love this game. So much fun to play. Just fuckin mowin down monsters with kickass weapons and a retro feel. Play on hard or very hard you respawn so the action never stops. Easy game to rock some beers with. Highly recommend.

This is a must have shooter. It has just the right combination of retro and modern gfx. Instead of trying to recapture the lightning in a bottle they have their own lightning here.

I can't recommend this game enough. It has one of the best level designs Ive seen in a FPS in recent memory. the levels are long with intertwining paths, but somehow you just never get lost. The combat is so satisfying. Every weapon, even your standard pistol has such a nice impact to it and most of that attributed to the superb sound design. Its not just the sounds of the weapons firing, but the sounds of the projectile hitting your enemies. You get a very convincing auditory feedback of your damage that you are causing. Andrew Hulshult did something magical here and i don't think its been done like this before. Then there is the gore. Its excessive and unrealistic, yes, but it never gets in the way of the action. You can always see what youre doing through the red mist

TLDR: buy it...heck, buy it twice....the devs deserve it.

Only 5 hours (at this time) of gaming but I am thoroughly impressed with this early access/in-progress work of a game - and it is awesome if you like old school 90's (ish) FPS games. The pixelated graphics are fantastic, the action insane, the map levels (apparently, mostly, community created) are diverse. Sound is very satisfying and the music is heart thumping brilliant. Controls and movement are silky smooth; a most in any FPS game. I am really looking forward to more levels (which you can vote on when you complete them) and the finished product.

I'm a huge fan of the old Quake, wolfenstein, and of course Doom games. Grew up on them. I'm a huge fan of Doom Eternal. This right here is a far more accurate representation of bringing back old Doom to a modern engine. Shooting is fun, enemies are the right amount of dumb but overwhelming when you screw up. But what has by far sold me on this is the grungey, thick, chunky sound design of all the weapons. The meaty delivery of a shotgun into gorey zombies and monsters alike is oh, just oh so satisfying. Everything in this game ooozes that old grungy, industrial sci fi setting that the Quake 2 and up delivered, and its completely thanks to the amazing sound design. Every thing is loud, everything is chunky, and I fucking love it. The meatiness of every freaking weapon is something I so desperately miss about 90's fps games, and honestly I didn't even really realize it till I played this. Theres no excuse for every shotgun in every game to not sound like this beautiful piece of art.

If you want a more true to nature Doom game in a modern era (and once again, I love Doom Eternal, but I completely understand why fans of the OG don't like the new game mechanics), with beautiful retro pixel industrial environments and absolutely amazing sound design, this is it. Haven't even finished it, but I absolutely cannot wait to continue playing, and seeing what else they bring upon release.

Only thing I would really like to ask for, give us some multiplayer. Just an oldschool Quake 3, deathmatch, tdm with all of the same weapons and game mechanics this game has brought.

This easily could have been the direction Doom took. It's like an alternate universe Doom sequel. Absolutely love it. Super satisfying deaths, a gorgeous art style that feels classic yet modern. And once you're done the campaign (only a short bit available during Early Access), there's a ton of amazing maps made by the community. I haven't tried the level editor yet myself, but I may at some point. If you're on the fence with this game, just get it!

One word, CLASSIC OLD SCHOOL FPS Doom 1 +Quake 1 mix! Glad I stumbled on this game! 40 year old gamer, who's been playing games as far back as I can remember, what can I say about this game, only vintage gamers like me would know :)

What's here is amazing. The animation style combined with the sound design and the gibs give everything a satisfying crunch and impact to everything you do, from firing the starter pistol to nuking things with a quad shotgun (yes, QUAD). The level design is excellent, with where you're supposed to go clearly directed by how the levels are laid out without holding your hand.
Difficulty is also fine tuned (I play on the 2nd hardest for reference), with every death feeling like it's your fault. There's no BS encounters, and though it can get tight, as long as your aim is decent you always have enough ammo to get through. The escalation and power curve are also well-designed, introducing a new weapon or enemy every level while slowly cranking the dial.
It may still be in early access, but the game is still getting updates and has a robust level creation tool, so even when you finish the campaign taster you still have loads to do.
I am super excited to see what comes next, and eagerly await the full release. I really can't recommend this game enough.

There's certain things you look for in games like this. And games like this aren't anything new. They're nothing we haven't seen before. There's Dusk, Prodeus, Strafe, Ultrakill.. All these games try to capture the essence of old shooters like Quake or Doom. I've played them all, as a veteran of old school first person shooters. And each one of these titles does a good job in its own right, but the problem is that each of them forget an aspect from those old games that made them so fun. For one game, there'll be an emphasis on platforming and jump pads. And for another, there'll be an emphasis on recreating the graphics of old school Quake. The thing is, though.. None of these titles do it for me. None of them remind me of the shooters that I used to play in the 90s. You can add as much bloody gibs as you want or as many jump pads you want or ridiculous weapons. But there's one thing for me that triumphs over all of that. The actual shooter itself.

No matter how much exploding heads you add in a game, nobody wants a gun that shoots like a pea shooter. You want a gun where every shot feels beefy. You want feedback as soon as you pull that trigger. The feedback is everything. And Prodeus excels at this, I think. And it does it better than most of these retro demakes. It feels good to pull the trigger. And enemies will react accordingly. Even if they take multiple hits, they'll still be staggered, somewhat. There'll be glorious explosions of viscera with each hit they take until their riddled body explodes. Each shot you fire feels like a well placed punch. It doesn't feel like you're wasting ammo or wittling down a spongey enemy.

That is what I love about Prodeus. And I'm sorry to other developers, but their gunplay just doesn't feel impactful. So I get bored very easily playing them. And it's not really something that'll change with playtime. The moment you start a game, you get a feel for the mechanics, and you can tell right away whether you like them or not.

Another plus is the integration of community maps. I love it when a community comes together on a game I genuinely enjoy, and they go out of their way to make their own content for it. Replyability is important, and it's what made Brutal Doom so much fun. There were so many levels to download.

Amazing and incredibly gory. Very nice game. I´m looking forward to more official campaign levels. At this time there arent that many. There is however a built in map maker and creative mappers have already crafted interesting new levels and campaigns to play in the meantime. Thumbs up from me.

Game is freaking awesome, i want more things to slay.
However as a note for the devs i would like to see more gun platforming mid-combat i feel using the platforms as traps, as well as mobility would be amazing.

The art, weapon feel, level design, pace & music are just amazing.
Best modern-retro doom/quake gore shooter I've ever played.
Truly recommended if you like fast-paced, aggressive shooters.

Label accurately matches content. It's a fun retro shooter with excellent styling. It has a bit of plot but doesn't waste any time trying to shove it down my throat. I'm enjoying it more than I did doom eternal

It might be considered a crime, hell even sacrilegious to consider it a possibility, but this game does doom better than doom. The controls are so tight that it feels like they used a 1 meter torque wrench to do it up, graphically it doesn't bring anything new but they are utterly brilliant to look at, the music is andrew hulshult so you KNOW it's good. Prodeus isn't just any old doomer shooter trying to ride off the nostalgia of the good old days, it's a doom game in it's own right.

Another retro shooter made by someone who knows how retro shooters are made. Go in, kill enemies, collect keycards, complete the level. Rinse and repeat.

Doomers rejoice! Heard about this from my IT co-worker of all people and I'm hooked!

The game play is like butter, with the guns feeling satisfying to shoot; the demons actually react and spill guts when shot which is a nice bonus. The music is a m a z i n g, would put many other games to shame. The callback 90s graphics are aesthetically pleasing; with the added bonus of it running beautifully.

BUY IT!

I can highly recommend this to anyone.

Its a shame that this ended as early as possible, but, ya know, early access and what not, and it has community maps support so I can let that slide because regardless, I had a blast with what this presented. I really do recommend this if you happen to like 90s shooters like Quake and what not, but with a more modern touch. Can't wait to see the rest of it when its all done!

fast. brutal. good. played DOOM 2016 again last week and felt like forcing myself through sluggish goo and not like surfing light-footedly on blood and demon entrails.

Holy cow, where to start...

The weapons are amazing in their own unique ways. They all sound meaty when you fire and they all have satisfying alt-fires as well.

The enemy designs are cool and enemy deaths are even better, with blood spurting absolutely everywhere.

The music is DOOM level quality. Absolute top-notch music. I actually just purchased the soundtrack.

All I can say now is that I NEED MORE. I NEED MORE OF THIS GAME ASAP.

This is one that I was expecting to like, I've always been into DOOM and Dusk, so when retro style shooters pop up, I like to take a look at them, this one has the old sprite artstyle even on the weapons, it's very gory and pushes you to move around as much as possible, the controls felt super fluid and despite the aged look I did like how some of the reflections were handled in those 2D style graphics, it also features great music to go along with everything going on. So put some headphones on, get that adrenaline going and rip and tear

It's Doom 2 but it's middle aged and is still wearing it's NiN t-shirt it bought all the way back in high school.
