Über das Spiel

Project: Gorgon is a 3D fantasy MMORPG (massively-multiplayer online role-playing game) featuring an immersive experience that allows the player to forge their own path through exploration and discovery. We don't guide you through a world on rails, and as a result, there are many hidden secrets awaiting discovery. Project: Gorgon also features an ambitious skill-based leveling system that bucks the current trend of pre-determined classes, allowing the player to combine skills in order to create a truly unique playing experience.

AN IMMERSIVE WORLD
When you play Project: Gorgon, we want you to feel as if you’re immersed in a whole new virtual world. Rather than trying to manage this with just graphics and excessive backstory, we’ve designed the game with dozens of gameplay features that make you feel like you’re really there interacting with the world, such as:

  • Each non-player (NPC) you meet has their own goals and interest, and reward players that choose to be their friend.
  • You can drop items on the ground, and other players can pick them up. What’s so great about that? Imagine laying down a trail of literal (virtual) breadcrumbs to guide your friends (or lure your enemies) into the woods.
  • Shopkeepers keep inventory, so you can buy items that other players have sold to them. Want to help out new players? Sell your cast-off items to the shopkeeper in the new player zone and watch the new players go to town.
  • If you are on fire, you can jump into a lake to put it out. This type of mechanic can have a subtle effect on your strategies, especially when you are fighting a fire mage!
  • You can inscribe messages onto items, write books, and even leave notes for other players. Make your name as an in-game poet, or pronounce your greatness to the world!

It is a nice and simple game if you want exploration and like questing in the wilderness and in classic dungeons.

But i cant recommend it because the game is sadly a bit rudimentary, the framerate is not optimal and what killed it for me is the progression system. You get XP for everything you do, for example if you gatner a lot or fight a lot you get XP and with that you automatically get new skills or can gather more things.

But there is no possibility to freely customize your character. You cant choose what new things you want, you just get some predefined skills/abilities, which i dont find very engaging personally.

The fighting gets a bit monotone you just press all your fighting abilities one (different sword attacks) after another until the target is dead. There is no decision making during a fight which abilites to press when. I just spammed everything over and over again and that is it.

There are some players araound in the villages and so on but its not like they were super social or anything. I wanted to lean fire magic but it didnt work because i didnt get the reicpe from the guy that should teach it to me. Dont know what happened there. I really wanted to try magic but ultimately the gameplay loop and the core mechanics and Qol of the game didnt cut it for me. Fire magic would have kept me going for a while more but not much longer.

I'm sad because i wanted to like this game but i did not enjoy the combat at all and it's always nice when a grindy game limits your inventory space like this and make you pay a monthly fee for 15 additionals slots of inventory when you need way more... I'm glad i did not paid the full price for it.

This is a good game if you are itching for an old school MMO.

First thing to note:
There is no PvP in this game. If you are looking for a PvP MMO, this is not for you.

I highly recommend trying the demo before you think about picking up this game. The demo's content is the bulk of the Tutorial Island which will teach you on how to play but will not hold your hand on where to go next afterwards. I want to emphasize that reading is very important in this game. Tutorial Island should last you an hour or two. If you made it past the tutorial (demo) and thought it was for you, then pick up the game.

After Tutorial Island, the game really does not hold your hand and you will be left to learn everything!

Performance-wise:
It does lag a bit if you play on Ultra. Some play on Low or Normal. Graphics aren't something to write home about but it's alright.

How it started: Told the dude about a girlfriend I had sometime in the past in a dialogue option.
How it's going: Banged the male bard for 4 hours offline in order to learn how to play a lute.

10/10 RP Success.

I have been searching for -this game- for over a decade. Ever since WoW's Cataclysm, I have never been able to truly scratch that MMORPG itch... I tried SWTOR (Started out good but just fizzled to hell), I tried TESO (I dislike the combat, and I well don't enjoy playing the game, but I do love the lore), I tried most recently FFXIV ARR (too anime for me, but more so the limited inventory slots with no external personal storage literally killed my interest in this game), and I felt way too late to the party trying LOTRO.

Project Gorgon is everything I have been searching for all this time.

I have found it.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I now pledge to lose all that I have gained in life unto this. Devs, please continue doing what you're doing. This shit is pure nostalgic heroin. It is desperately needed in these times..

My only gripes;
-Mouse controls are not very consistent, often glitch out. eg. I use rightclick+leftclick to move in all mmo's I play (part of the reason I couldn't get into TESO). This game allows me to move this way but constantly locks to either my left click bind or my right click bind instead of acting as I'm pressing both. This interrupts combat frequently and usually follows up with me panicking to re-position, assess cooldown rotation damage, etc.
-Cannot rotate FOV/LOS/direction of character while jumping. Attaching on to my previous complaint (both of these could very well just be my own preferential opinion, but I am commenting them in the case others share my opinion), primarily moving with both mouse buttons requires a lot of camera adjusting while jumping. This game locks camera and FOV when you jump, until you land. And the jump launches you pretty far forward in comparison to most mmorpgs. It would be nice to be able to move the camera to target new targets while jumping. Not sure if maybe this is intended?
-Tight-knit core community that isn't too keen on helping any new players.

Though aside from all that, this game is fucking amazing and I will be pumping hours into this!

If you like oldschool MMOs, like Everquest, Ultima Online, and Star Wars Galaxies, this is the game for you.
The game isn't pretty, but the world is so filled with magic and wonder; there's a new mechanic to interact with around every corner. The dialog is all really funny and witty; I've loved all the lore so far. The games kinda hardcore in a way modern MMO's are not. For example, you can become an animal like a pig or cow semi-permanently, with the cure being somewhat expensive or difficult. If you decide to play as a pig permanently, you can have all kinds of pig abilities, and still be a viable character class. I bought the game after playing the demo and paid for a VIP membership, so did my partner, and 3 of my friends. 5/10 graphics, 7/10 sound, 8/10 gameplay, 10/10 lore, 10/10 addictive.

Edit: I'm over 100 hours in now, I just unlocked flight from as a druid, and my giant bear Kodiak is an unstoppable killing machine. I'm still in love with the game, and even more of my friends are playing now.

This game is difficult to handle mid-lvl or higher, there is sometimes loot you might throw away and might've realized that it could've been turned in as a quest or reputation gain to an npc that can also unlock a class or recipe that you would probably want or need later on ur adventure.

It's hard, but fun, sadly it just need more community to make the world more amazing.

Finally, after ten Thousand years...

This is gonna be a long one, buckle up...

my life story starts here, skip if you don't care but it helps to understand my review

I used to play Everquest and WoW back in the day and each one of those MMO's gave me something different.

Everquest had a welcoming community and gave me a sense of astonishment through exploration I was hooked on. Making sense of the world was hard at first but what a rush you had when you finally accomplished something. You had earned it. On the flip side, combat was a mess and felt like a tedious routine you couldn't possibly do alone without incurring the risk of dying in a place you couldn't possibly recover your body. They implemented systems to alleviate these penalties but to succeed in the game you had to play a certain way. After awhile pleasure and astonishment became dreariness and boredom.

World of warcraft had simplified the MMO formula, only 2 tradeskills, fairly straightforward classes and combat and a railroaded experience towards leveling up. The fact you could solo effectively and still experience fun and challenge in dungeons kept me going on WoW for years. Once you had found your group of players the experience was fun... as long as you kept up with the herd that is. You see, WoW isn't really an MMO. It's a marathon to the finish line with clear cut roles and expectations. As people rush towards ''end game content'' you need to find the most effective way to level up to keep up. Of course, some people say, ''you can choose to stop and smell the flowers if you want'' and to those people I reply, ''not if you want to play with your friends''. You see, the game is made in such a way, that if you want to progress and obtain the highest return on your investment of time, you need to be at the start of the line. Things that were rare and sold for a lot, became suddenly common and were worth nothing. People who challenged the dungeon with a gear score of 2500 now had the expectation you had 2900 so the experience was as fast and smooth as possible. So, like everquest, pleasure and astonishment became dreariness and boredom.

Once I had departed WoW when they released cataclysm I started my quest to find an MMO which would be fun and stay fun.

I since played almost every MMO under the sun from Guild wars to FFIV, to returning to WoW (both classic and the new expansion which was shadowlands at the time of writing this review. Every single one of them had the same problems. No matter the impressive graphics, the ''new and improved mechanics'' or the ''groundbreaking gameplay overhauls'' they all ended like the 2 I described earlier... Dreary and boring, a marathon or, God forbid, all the above.
Now… here we are… I had lost all hope of ever finding an MMO that didn’t fall into those traps. One fateful morning, one of my friends told me about a ‘’brand new’’ MMO that would ‘’change my life or at least, entertain me for a few hours’’. My interest was piqued, but as soon as I saw the graphics, the off-key presentation in the video and the price tag; I quickly dismissed the game and forgot about it.

My friend hadn’t forgotten and kept talking to me about it, how you could kill enemies by revealing they were adopted, how some bosses cursed you with wacky conditions if you failed to kill them, like becoming a cow for instance. While amusing, the intricacies of everything I was told was lost upon me, since I hadn’t experienced it.
So, I decided to fire up the demo to see what this was all about…

Welcome to the review travelers

Let’s talk about the graphics … As odd as it may seem, you won’t spend much time looking at them. You will spend your time reading what NPCs tell you and interacting with people in the game. Think back how often you took the time to read what an NPC tells you in an MMO. You’ll probably be surprised by your answer which is most likely ‘’I skipped it and did the quest’’.

Graphics of this game grow on you and since I joined this game a little more than a year ago, the development team have improved them.

For those who still need convincing, remember this quote from a beloved game developer ‘’16 times the details’’ and see where that led you.

So, how about gameplay ? For those who read my biography above, this is where that investment of time will pay off.
Simplest way of putting it is, progression is organically tied to playing the game. Everything you do gives you experience to progress in something. Progressing in something unlocks new options or improves existing ones. Henceforth, almost nothing you do is worthless and will probably pay down the line.

• You die in a unique way? Here’s some XP!
• You study goblin business card that you looted? Here, learn some goblinese!
• You took time to learn goblinese while exploring? How about an interesting chat with a goblin who can teach you to speak with the dead? You’ve now acquired a new skill!
• Want to try out that dope new skill to talk with the dead? How about desecrating graves to find a friend to talk to? Oh wow! Guess what! He/she/it was entertained and taught you a new gender study skill!!
• ?????????
• Profit!

Who knows where your adventure will take you! This game manages to surprise you in so many ways that boredom rarely creeps up on you if you’re exploring.

So, let’s talk about sounds. The soundtrack is mostly mellow and lowkey. Big downfall is that there’s few music and it repeats a lot. When you play of an instrument, it’s always the same melody. This is an aspect of the game that needs improvement, but it didn’t prevent me from enjoying the game.

How about the community ? It’s small and dedicated. I have yet to stumble upon someone rude in the game. Every time I asked for help on global chat, I had someone ready to help or offer advice within 5 minutes of asking. Truly a wonderful community. People organize events, help each other out constantly and get into silly hijinks all the time. There’s only one server so even though the player base is small, you never feel ‘’alone’’. Unlike some MMO’s where a high level city becomes the home port of all veteran players, Serbule, the ‘’starting’’ city is where most people gather. There’s another place that serves as a ‘’nexus’’ of sorts but I won’t spoil it for you, discovering it is an adventure in of itself :-D.

Finally, the business model. You pay for the game once, and then you play without restrictions. Buy to play simple as that. There’s the option to pay per month for extra perks, but they’re mostly convenience perks like some extra storage space and a skill that lets you learn other skills offline. None of those give an ‘’unfair’’ advantage to those who pay. You can easily have enough storage space without paying since it grows as you level up another skill anyway. Think of VIP as a tip jar for the dev. There’s also no cash shop, everything can be unlocked through playing the game and having fun.

If everything I said above still hasn’t convinced you to at least try the free demo, I’ll leave you on this… Out of all the games I have on steam, I reviewed 2 of them, including this one. Now, think how much time I spent writing, editing and pondering this review to convince you to try this game, and this should be a strong argument in of itself.

Welcome travelers! Welcome to project gorgon!

See you in the game!

When passion devolves into money hunger.
Besides cashgrabbing the game hasnt done much this past year.

The negatives:
- VIP monthly subscription in an early access game
- Online shop to preorder features
- Seemingly no major Improvements other than VIP features
- Graphics and Animations are from the year 1998
- Etibule looks like crap
- Skintones... i mean seriously have you seen dem skintones?

The positives:
- A unique and charming MMORPG
- Fun and versatile set of learnable skills

I really like this game but the graphics are very outdated and besides new high level region nothing really happens.
The world is vast but mostly empty. The UI is outdated and buggy. The character creator is minimal and the skintones are hilarious.

There are aton of fanboys and positive reviews defending even the bad aspects of the game. More than there are actually active players in the game.

Clearly a work of love by the developers. Made extremely well. I tend to burn out fast on MMORPGs because I want to try all of the different skills, and thus need to make different characters of all the different classes. Then I have to grind through the beginner area so much that I know it by heart but never see end game content. This eliminates that problem. Want to try a new skill? You can just go do that. There is no limited skill points resource, not class limitations, nothing. The trade skills weave together excellently in a way that encourages you to build a well rounded character and explore new aspects of the game. You're never gonna get bored. The community is excellent, helpful to the extreme and eager to teach. A lot of the negative reviews mention disliking the graphics and I just gotta say, if you're gonna let graphics that aren't AAA quality prevent you from enjoying one of the most impressively well crafted games I've ever seen, especially on an early access game, this game wasn't meant for you anyways

If you can handle an MMO that wont handhold your entire experience this is actually an incredible enjoyable MMORPG for a game made by a small group of people. They have truly achieved a world i was excited to explore and advance through as a Bard / Animal Handler. Not to mention my lovely tiger, Catt Lauer.

A great game that keeps getting better. You simply cannot judge it based on any other game. It has years of constant work from a small studio that just keeps going. It's very playable in the state it is in, and will be getting upgrades to graphics near launch.

There is a very nice feel to the game. No hand holding, quirky little quests, tons and tons of skills that every character can level up. Some for combat, some for crafting, and some just for fun. Palentology lets you collect bones and animate dinosaurs, I'd never have thought to have seen something like that in a game.

Since every character can experiement and decide what they want to work on, you don't run out of things to do. You aren't restrained by a class.

Every year it gets better. And with no subscription, it's very affordable.

I bought this game because a friend recommended it a long time ago--I now regret ever spending money on this game

because the game still sucks: clunky combat, unnatural character movement, and unpolished art.

I doubt the game will ever be finished by a two person team.

Save your time and money and avoid this disappointing piece of junk.

All Skills are intermingled in some way or shape. Progression feels Good. No Subs. No Pay to Win. When they add the last phase of dev ->> Graphics overhaul/ placeholder conversion, this game is gonna explode. Devs are amazing for really thinking deeply on every aspect of progression.

First off, this game is ugly. I'm sorry, but that's the very first thing that's going to jump out at new players. It looks more like the original Everquest than any sort of modern MMO. The environments are flat, lifeless, and empty, the interiors are like big empty warehouses, and the models look like origami figures.

But it's a tiny team, still pre-release, and the draw for this game isn't the graphics, its the gameplay and skills system.

You start out knowing virtually nothing and you discover skills as you explore and play. These skills range from hitting things with a sword through to psychology and how to be a cow. They are brilliant.

The skills have various perks (for instance the dying skill, that you improve by... well... dying in new and exciting ways) will offer you buffs to health and other areas as you progress and get killed by new amazing things. They also have various active abilities such as various stabby motions with a sword.

As an MMO the player base seems very friendly and approachable, and the latency is pretty stable - I'm in China right now, and I can still play with only some lag in town (usually).

As I mentioned, the game is still pre-release. The devs update regularly and are expanding the team to look at taking on someone to do a bit of world building and modelling (thank the lord!) so I'd say that this is one to watch if the graphics are too jarring for you or one to grab if you can deal with that and enjoy some crazy character builds.

8/10, would get a skeleton to tell me about his mother again.

Very cool nostalgia trip to the better days of MMORPGs. This game has a lot of stuff to do and although still lacking in some assets, it is very addicting and entertaining.

Edit: Removed what I said about graphics, you can set up pretty nice graphics from the options. I was assuming the default was the high graphics, but the highest you can set up in this game are from another world compared to the normal settings.

After trying to find a new (or old) rpg to play preferably with mmo features, I found this and plunked a ton of hours into it. The controls just feel so perfect I wish all mmo's felt like this. The graphics remind me of everquest, original. lol most people wont like that but it doesnt bother me. The fighting is fun and makes me want to fill my backpack... which can get challenging to manage but they do inventory management very creatively with local banks, transfer systems, and i bet they will put in so much more if they continue to make money. I always liked to support games like this that werent made by AAA titles that just catered to the vocal minority in the forums and ended up ruinings games.. UO with trammel and felucia comes to mind. I love the skill system and foraging/crafting in this game, along with the endless skill system. It doesnt really feel like a grind but I am still exploring so interested to see what new features and content is provided. VERY WELL DONE DEVELOPERS!!!

I am just loving this game. I bought it when it first came out, and would check in on it every now and then. I recently came back to game and was really happy with the progress...at least to my memory, the performance was improved and graphics improved. In addition, the nuance of the game is just what I loved about the older style MMORPG. I find it very enjoyable to play, explore and interact with others in game. The community is so awesome- very helpful and similarly are there because they love this niche game. Since I started playing again, I have talked about it with my gaming friends, and now they are playing it an think the game is great too. Amazing accomplishment for the developers, and DON''T LISTEN to the naysayers comments about the game. For those who KNOW, this is a GREAT game and well worth the money spent, which definitely goes to help the developers continue with this game. So many layers to the game, and is what a PVE focused game should be. Thank you for this gem!

This game will never be a AAA Blockbuster release and may never even get out of Alpha, but honestly the amount of fun I'm having with it, it doesnt matter to me, if you played the demo and like it and decided to buy you will likely get your moneys worth. The Community is fairly nice and helpful when asked questions, Set a goal and run for it this isnt the kind of Game that will hold your hand all the time, there is a Wiki to look things up but you will not have trail saying go this way to get to max level or even blinking indicators for quest.

Payed $45 CAD for this game back in 2019 EA. Reinstalled to see where it has come since and come to find out there is a monthly VIP membership for a game that more or less, looks and plays the same. Graphic performance enhancements locked behind a paywall. Are you kidding me??? Last EA mmo I ever play. Thanks

I am a kickstarter backer who backed after playing the alpha in August 2015.
I loved how unique and silly the game was, as did my 4 friends who also backed the kickstarter. Their original release date was intended to be December of 2016. I don't mind delays in products, but personally I feel as though the developers have squandered so much of their time and oversold how much of this game they had created prior to their Kickstarter.

Also of note, due to a bug with steam my hours played in 2018 and late 2019 are not tracked. I have around 30 hours in the game since the Steam release before this week when I decided to try it out again.

This game feels as though it hasn't progressed at all in 6 years despite large reworks and changes.

Most of the changes they have made can be summed up below
  • They reworked the loot and gear system.
  • They reworked multiple skills and added new skills.
  • They reworked dungeons, areas, zones, and balance over the years
  • Bug fixes and similar

Why I feel this massive amount of work, amounts to no work.

Reworks, reworks, reworks. This game was sold to backers in 2015 as being mostly planned and designed, merely lacking created content and good art to go along with it. But as people played it turns out the gear system was broken and needed a rework. The combat system was broken and needed a mini rework. Group content was broken and needed rebalance. Open world dungeons were overfarmed and broken by groups so they needed reworks and rebalance. People were complaining about max level content so they reworked that too.

All I have to ask is - why was nothing learned from previous games with similar ideas? The loot/gear system was obviously broken with how random it was and the monstrosities of power it could create. Open world dungeons are obviously gonig to be abused by large groups. With no proper combat triangle obviously some skills will become highly valued for all players and people trying to play traditional roles will have issues.

Why were players who complained about the endgame grind being catered to at all? The point of the creation phase is to create game content the way you want to then tweak as needed. Not to throw out temporary content and loot/enemy reworks for whining players treating the game as if its released already.

The devs have squandered and wasted so much time reworking systems that either didn't need reworks or had obvious design flaws from the getgo. They wasted time catering to players treating the game as if it was World of Warcraft. They wasted time over and over remaking and redoing things they'd already done - sometimes multiple times.

And what is the result? The game feels almost exactly the same as it did before in 2015. It doesn't look much better, still completely blown out by hobbyists making games in their free time. I find the graphics charming but it feels like a joke to say that the Kickstarter money was to be used for art improvement and the improvements over time are going from early Gamecube graphics to late Gamecube graphics and the game feels the same as ever in gameplay.

Now I finally found out just today that they estimate it's around 18 months from release. Awesome, I guess. Good for them. BUT WAIT! Players who played in the alpha/beta get to keep their skills and training?? There's no REAL reset? Really? GG, game is dead on arrival. Every single MMO ever has reset on release. Once again they cater to the WoW players in their community who can't stand the idea that they grinded on an ALPHA/BETA and don't get to start THOUSANDS of hours ahead of the new players. This is death to the player-ran eceonomy. This is death to the idea of equality for players. This is death to the community.

This game is basically dead as it stands. And the devs chose to cater to SOME of that dead playerbase instead of the longterm health of their game on release as well as the other half of their community who wants or is fine with a full reset.

This is the nail in the coffin. These devs have no idea what they are doing beyond trying to please the toxic half of their tiny leftover playerbase at the cost of any hope of the future of the game.

I'm just done with yet another Kickstarter taking ten thousands years to come out and the developers having no clue what they are doing during the entire process after saying they're experts in the field. These two are far from experts.

And you know what it really sucks because the game was so damn good in 2015 but has gained 2 years of actual new progress in 6 years of work.

I read all the negative reviews and wonder. This is a really fun game that you can play solo but it's best with friends. I don't think MMORPG is a perfect label for this one - it is, strictly speaking, but 'co-op RPG' describes it better. It's funny, raunchy, complex and expansive, the community rocks and is ever helpful, the loot is diabloesque, the writing is very fun and I actually enjoy reading through it. There's tons to do and explore and discover and doing so feels rewarding. The mechanics get deep and there's TONS of skills to learn that enrich your experience while you're playing, or add income, or enable lore-friendly interactions, or new gameplay options. It's rough graphically and it's still early access but the devs clearly love their game and are actively working on making it better with every patch. I'm enjoying myself.

I had never truly jived with an MMO before Project: Gorgon, and I have to say this game has been an absolute blast. The community is great and there are tons of things to do, with people or without people. I’m 330 hours in and still largely working on the first two combat skills I picked up, but am pumped to try other skills once I max out my current build. Crafting skills are great fun and every skill has a use. I just learned about one that I didn’t even know existed. It’s exciting to have so much to do in front of me, including whole maps I’ve barely touched. I would recommend this game to anyone who likes an atmosphere of exploration and camaraderie.

The new VIP-system is not justified given the state of the game in early access (might never make it out of it!). Usually this indicates the end state of a game where the still remaining player base is milked dry before the game completely shuts down.

Early Access (far from finished) MMO that now offers a QoL monthly subscription comparable in price to that of FFXIV, ESO, and WoW. Effectively now indie game or not with its current monetization model and price it is competing alongside those previously mentioned games while not being remotely in the same league.

This game was already incredibly niche, now potential new players are going to look at the price for entry and compare and contrast it with the genre giants. This change effectively gated off an already niche game community, pushing away potential new players for the ability to further monetize the niche community.

If you are looking for a new MMO I can safely say to skip this game, while it has an interesting skill system it was arguably already overpriced at its base box price, the inclusion of a monthly subscription while still being early access says more about the game than I ever could.

An early access indie mmo with a very slow update cycle, unfinished animations, placeholder textures and an optional monthly subscription to improve the games quality of life, comparable in price to most 'finished' AAA mmos.

While it does have one of the best skill systems I've ever had the pleasure of playing with, I can't justify the prices asked for when there is such a glacial update speed and such a poor comparison to it's market competition for similar prices.

As it stands you'll get more value for money from another mmo but I recommend the demo and seeing for yourself if it's for you.

Nearly 1000 hours full of monster slashing and leveling the many skills like hammer, sword, shield, firemagic, battle chemistry, staff, carpenter, cooking, alchemy, mining, treassure hunting and many more. Enjoying a lot of hours with my friends here in this game at the weekends reaching our goals at our gaming days or after a nice BBQ in the saturday evening. Still, we have many goals to fullfil and we hope for even more content in the future. I love it that there is a VIP membership now. The developers deserve the monthly treat and as advertised, there will be money going into developing the game. If you are searching for a nice and especially good crafted old school roleplay game that combines many classes to push each other with extra benefits you will love it. The start is easy, the mastering is hard work. But, work that will give you hours, days, even weeks and month of joy. Who better to say than a guy that is around 1000 hours in this game as well as his friends are.
To the team behind Project: Gorgon: Guys, I love your product. It is written with so much heart for details and it just feels like a game that is different to all the stereotype roleplays out there. With about 15 roleplaying games I played over the last 15 years, there have been two which I played that many hours. Yours and LOTRO (but, as LOTRO sucks today, I was searching for a game like yours for many years until I finally found it :) A new home for my little gamer heart.

As much as I did enjoy it back in the day, I cannot -in good conscience- recommend this to anyone.
The game was created to a niche audience, it had charm despite the overall quality. Really liked almost everything about it.
The addition of VIP was mentioned, I'll give them that (except it was nowhere on Steam, so if you didn't dig around beforehand; surprise!).
To honestly think you can charge people this much for a game of this quality with an added subscription is ambitious, if anything.

This decision of theirs while can be excused if it's a funding problem (which it isn't, they said so themselves), is extremely poor. Dividing your already small & niche playerbase is never a good move. Hope it goes well for them but for me? I'm out.

My comment from a discussion thread:

I've only played 10 hours. Had fun, but I really don't like EA games. I simply loved the game concept and wanted to support the idea.

Saw subscription service is now available on my Library feed, so looked over the info. I'm sad. Every MMO has an inventory pain point. Some minor. Some games it becomes major. Paying for inventory means the devs realize this is a pain point and players are willing to pay more money to fix the problem.

Rather than minimizing a problem and increasing fun/enjoyment, the devs are not fixing the problem. They are requiring more money to remove an inconvenience. And I'm out. A game selling subscription services while still in EA is a horrible idea. Reminds me way too much of ARK devs selling paid expansions while the actual game was still a buggy mess in EA.

I'm not subscribing to this thread so no need to argue with me and I'm not trying to be harsh; trying to provide constructive feedback while masking my disappointment. Maybe somewhere down the road, things will change and I will remember the game and check it out. Don't make this awkward...

Not so much on the graphics side, but its really in depth. Probably one of the most in depth games to the point of annoyance there is. So if you are looking for something to keep you busy til New World , There are a handful of older high level players who are helpful. But for the most part people are dicks. You see there is no pvp. So you might be busting your tail in a dungeon working for a boss and have someone following you , waiting for the boss room and jet in and kill it , get it engaged and locked...another annoying thing is you will be in one of those dungeons and a group of capped out guys run for their daily quest and kill everything in sight while they are waiting for one of their buddies to get there. There is no etiquette , because there is no pvp, and many many people there have never played pvp on any MMO. For a game that isnt a Top Shelf MMO, the player base determines in the end what the game is. Hopefully as i play it more , i meet better people. Is it a thumbs up? yes if you want a time killer for a new game, it is a bit rough but fun. Your best bet is to play with a friend. Thumbs down for player base and annoying faction .
p.s. if you think you are gonna start as a werewolf in a few hours of game play, ha.

I really wanted to like this game, the concepts are really solid. Skill based leveling, loads of magic and fighting styles, in depth crafting and more. Event he graphics arent a problem for me. The inventory and the world itself are. Having to grind for every inch of progress isnt a new ideal, but there is a fine line between enjoyment and tedium. This game finds itself squarely on the tedium line.

I would highly recommend Project: Gorgon for people who are interested in the old way MMOs used to work. This game is designed not to limit you to one class - you can choose any class and abilities you want. You're set up to use two sets of skills at a time, and you get loot dropped that will help boost those equipped skills. This game has a diverse community that is full of people willing to help out newer and weaker players. You have the ability to become a vendor, so if you decide you like to primarily focus on crafting, or selling your loot to players, that is something that can be accomplished. It is a great game and while I recognize the graphics are a bit rough compared to present day standards, the game play more than makes up for it.

Its a year later and nothings changed, they just keep adding things to the VIP subscription system.
1 dungeon got a small amount of attention and the game still lags, frames drop, animations broken, loading screens everywhere, movement speed sux, instanced maps, needing 3rd party programs to tell what is going on with a lunar cycle and the many other random cycles that have no way of knowing about, huge issues with inventory space problems ignored by the veterans because they craft pockets and tell you to gitgud but theyv been playing for 3 years and havent seen their kids since they started playing, literally designes to be a problem for gameplay to drag things out and whole bunch of grinding aswell as a 2 year quest chain to unlock skills that are designed to drag out the gameplay and its lack of content when everyone farms the dungeons where the loot is, go to the farming areas not in town and see the same people that were there yesterday in same spot doing same thing using bots to grow cotton or their mushroom farms, there are more poorly thought out mechanics here than just these, but no one reports the bugs and balance issues if theyre getting free rewards because they get to keep what they have exploited when game goes live, game is so poorly designed that the content is being run by players using bots filling up the weird market place npc lag framerate dropathon, a main city used as a testing place that devs spawn in millions of rabid cows to kill the townsfolk on weird events that most players crash because of the animation glitchs and the overly eager friendly players who want you to ignore all this and play with them and go to their poetry sittins on weekends to gain skills of all things at the inn while they smile at you with way more teeth than a human should have behind their computer screen asif you are a mark/target or dinner idk, maybe they are just happy to see someone new that isnt corrupted yet.

The game has a good idea, but the biggest draws of the game were by accident and you never know if they will ever remove them and say they were bug because things take forever to get fixed or change or get added to the vip subscription as a payment feature, like the mute button for whenever you enter town and have to listen to the 14 bards learning how to play a lute with the same repetitive song beside the guy laying down 20 arrow boxes with his 6 farming alts blocking doorways and stairs.

The combat was ok, but everything has bugged animations still.. and things slide around like theyre on ice or cause your frames to drop everytime you turn around unless youre in the main city they use to test poor quality and stability.. of all the places to clutter with crap and dodgy rendered buildings, youre better off in a dungeon because above ground its stutter city when you walk over the weird land joining gaps that cause your pets to become a statue and unresponsive while still walking behind you.. even though everyones pets in real life are out infront pulling at the leesh, and sometimes you get to see a moderator bully someone in chat or be overly sarcastic to the person they were replying to who asked a question like they are starting to snap in real life and want to leave, like the soul is drained and are working on coffee fumes but hey, its ok because of the drugs.

I mostly just cant stand the animations, and frame stutter all the time with the loading screens, the travel system sux, you can teleport by magic runes, and mushrooms.. im sure the devs travel quite a bit in their lounge rooms with only mushrooms, i mean you got to if youre running around a map whacking a block with a stick in a planned out 3rd party program to help you mine better with your zoom zoom abilities of poorly designed travel mechanics, they have forum posts dated back years.. of what will come soon... soon.. but it doesn't, they added fairies as a playable race because people got sick of walking everywhere with the same old mechanics of travel which is only a few options and a bucket load of empty bottles and freaking fertilizer as you run from those message boards that give you money jobs, from other players or the pve version thats limited to a handful of types and not a variety of culture per town or npc's visiting or traveling its a dead lock of instanced maps with spawn times and more bloody mushroom, but lets ignore that because the bots can do it but shhhhhh, there is a golden discord out there with a bunch of people sharing the glitchs but you gota promise to not tell people because they dont report the things to the devs, there was a combat build that 1 shots anything if you do 2 little things first, no one reports stuff because its always a nerf, the devs imagination was lost after their curses were turned into played characters with huge restrictions, this game enjoys adding restrictions, so the guildy youre fighting beside is basically into bdsm or bondage in some form they just want to limit themself based on a random joint the dev had that weekend while at the poetry reading at the inn.. again..

Dont pick druid, the non skill gain mechanic to force you to defend the world from something in an area with either heat stroke or death cold, i mena thats how the real worlds going now anyway so why shouldnt the only high level zones have killer environment effects that you need a full stack of bottled water further dutching your inventory or a furr coat that sux with stats that you gambled with at some random house hut that was built by the aliens because there is no evidence that-that type of building could possibly have been built there by the inhabitants, may aswell have a pyramid.

Most places are empty with monster spawns just randomly everywhere in the open, like everywhere, the buildings and whatever structures nearby seem like lint from an elbow just quickly plopped down and a few npc's added to its ugly eyesore that you need to get favor with to be able to access another form of storage or skill to train.
I liked the unlocking of some combat skills with favor like seeing a master trainer somewhere out of the way, but some skills feel necessary at the start island to learn and they dont its made to give the world more depth and it doesnt its just more for the no lifers to dive deeper into despair, but the storage system absolutely blows, its different but it blows, you can access some stuff but not all and each town is different, imagine crossing the state or over seas and you needed to get a new bank and start again, you cant hire a truck to move your belongings you have to act like a camel to move stuff to another, like the casino, budget looking casino with a cool idea for an arena that is completely ignored because whole shit iv got more resources to grind out, better load up my bot..

Probably the only working animation that didnt suck poorly was the swimming, and i remember asking about boats and was told no, then yes, then maybe then soon and in the future, and those were not a reply from a dev i didnt get a reply from anyone who would know, unless the devs are secretly on private accounts which they probably are, or just friends with the private discord to chat to the devs, there is a thing about private discords with this game, iv seen like 15 all with their private rooms with the glitchs to exploit, only the officers get to see in them and they dish out vague information regarding help in a way for you to use while you have 12 tabs open with the pog wiki that reads like a stoner wrote it trying to give it some mystery and depth like.. well most of the community i assume that is complicit with wasting their time, which eg: is a stoner.

This is one of the best original style MMOs that has ever been made. It manages to have one of the robust economies and most insane list of skills I have ever seen in any game. I think the only way to describe the rabbit hole is to explain what I am currently doing in the game in an attempt to explain some of the crazy and magic.

I am trying to level Alcohol Tolerance to get the passive bonus it gives to poison damage reduction and for a bit I thought I would just buy barrels of liquor from the player run stores. I thought about it more and instead decided because I wanted to get brewing up eventually anyway, I might as well just drink the alcohol I was making from that. So I opened my crafting window to see what I needed and had to go get an NPC from toward the beginning of the game to like me more so that they would teach me how to make beer. After bringing them items to give them as gifts to get their favor, I realized that I would be needing barrels to mass produce my new drinks. So I took a look over at the carpentry tab and noticed I had enough wood to make them but lacked the metal to make the bandings for the barrels. So a little surveying for metal and some side time leveling blacksmithing to get the correct amount of skill for the needed bandings, and I am ready to start making barrels (which once again if I really wanted I could have bought from another player). With my brand new barrel in hand I gather some fruits from the surrounding area to make my concoction. Now with the brew made, I began the time needed to ferment the brew in a nearby cave. With the hour of time it takes to get that ready, I go and collect the animal parts and herbs needed to season my soon to be done alcohol. Upon completing the drink I note the recipe as each thing you add changes the effects of the final brew, and it is unique to every player. And simple as that I have my drink done and begin to level my skill Alcohol Tolerance...

If the above sounds like a good time then you will love this game. I love this game.

If you are reading this, just start playing the trial. Plenty of skills to try out and you won't lose the progress.

Like I said, if you've fallen this deep into MMO Hell you already know what you are looking for. It is 100% as advertised, no character lvl, just skill lvls. All leveled by doing said skill (along with small bonuses for progressing other skills deep into their respective trees). The way it allows for short-term fun and long term progression feels great.

*Disclaimer - I am nearing lvl 50 in a few skills and starting to work on others. I have very little knowledge of the end-game ecosystem here and am only speaking as a casual, few hours at a time kind of player.

The world that the team built certainly feels a bit dated but very much alive and thats why I give this a thumbs up. Really enjoying my time, thanks for building this!

This is a great MMO that resembles Asheron's Call in a lot of aspects. The big difference, which is a great one, is that you work to level your skills. Every skill in the game is available to all players and you can level all of them given time. You even can level your Death XP for dieing.

This game had me blinded at first by the just the graphics, that i played for about 2hr and never touched it for about 6 months. Once i had decided to revisit this game and look past the graphics, i continued to play for the next 5 months, daily...

DONT PASS THIS GAME UP >>> YOU CAME TO THE REVIEWS FOR A SOLID OPINION

This game has the heart of oldschool rpg such as neverwinter, runescape, baldur's gate, BUT it has newage content getting added in by the devs who actually use the communities judgement (and constantly play the game alongside of you, as well!) The community that play involves a large number of daily players, in which are very helpful. One of the most positive and inclusive gaming community i've been in (i have a vast mmo rpg experience).

This game has some fantastic aspects. For example I really love the skill system. However, most of my 34 hours playing has been spent doing favor quests to increase my storage space. That gets old after a while. Also, the crafting trainers are very spread out and require more quests/favor to unlock. Once you unlock them, you find out that you need items that you have stored in another zone. So you end up bouncing back and forth between zones. So much time is spent just running around and managing inventory. Lastly, some of the bosses have permanent penalties where if you die in combat against them, the penalties stay in effect until you conquer that boss. One of the penalties wasn't bad at all. But after just now losing my ability to perform basic attacks (these are the attacks that do not cost power to perform) I said to hell with it. I'll find a game that has less running and a less frustrating inventory management system.

Oldschool MMO, reminds me of the old runescape, but also had Morrowind vibes from the NPCs, a truly hidden gem.

Pros:
- A lot of skills. Both attack skills, of which you can have two equipped, and both crafting and other skills that you can upgrade.
- You can choose to have 1 character that you max out but it certainly takes a lot of time. But you can also say that one of your character is a fire mage/necro, and the other one will be something else. If you go down the latter road the game actually has a lot of replayability.
- One of the most mature, friendliest, kindest, most helpful communities I've ever seen. Seriously guys I love you all, please remain like this. <3
- Some of the regions have a very nice feel to them / good atmosphere.
- Each NPC has their own character, I enjoy this aspect a lot.
- Quite a few fun and interesting quests.

Neutral:
- Maybe.. they went overboard with the grind. If you like the grind, you'll love this, but if you are not much into it you'll need the help of high level players to speed the process up.

Cons:
- As you can expect as an Early Access game there are stuff that are not there yet. I've noticed this the most in 1 region that felt very empty, with a placeholder NPC and such. But the game certainly looks like it is getting there.

Overall: very highly recommended. Finally an MMO I truly enjoy.

TLDR; community game that is soloable, so many skills, so much freedom, unlock classes and races, become a deer, wolf, duck, fox and more. Just play this game please.

This game is amazing. I cannot describe how deep and beautiful this game is. Modern gamers might be out off by the graphics but the graphics are meaningless when a game is this good.
The community in this game is so friendly and helpful, hate, swearing, abuse is very looked down on. Helpfulness, dedication and loyalty is rewarded.
There are no classes or character levels, there are skills, so many skills, and you will forever be learning new ones and unlocking more and more. Become a druid at any combat level 50 so you can change into a deer or bird. Be a werewolf or a giant bat. Fly around do surveys or treasure hunting. At higher levels you can do war caches, which are mini solo dungeons.

This game is about community, gear, skills and events. If you miss EQ, want freedom and a game that can be solo'd easily, this is your game. Duck life yo <3

Uncut Diamond. Try the free demo!!

Project Gorgon feels more like a sandbox than most MMOs you might have played, the world itself is actually kind of small, but it doesn't feel cramped - there is so much to do!

Combat is very unique, you combine any 2 of the combat skills to play however you want, providing that you have the appropriate limbs to wield the necessary equipment! You could try classic Sword & Board, or perhaps a fire mage with a bardic horn to blast your enemies, or even a psychic spider! Each of the skills levels up independently, there are no player levels, so your strength is determined only by the level of your combat skills and equipment.

On equipment, this game is heavily luck based. There are a set of mods that apply to each combat skill and the loot you find will contain a number of random mods for whatever skills are currently using. Loot drops very frequently from all enemies, so you don't need to do a specific fight over and over and over to get the best items. The mods may be extracted (once you have learnt the appropriate profession) so that you can build the perfect item without of relying completely on luck.

The game is not breaking any new graphical ground; it looks very dated, but it is using a modern version of Unity and the models don't seem to be a priority. The special effects and 2d art is of decent quality. And besides, once you start playing you completely forget what you're looking at anyway and get absorbed in to the game.

Go try the free demo, you've got nothing to lose!

Great Game. I love it. Old School playstyle. Fills a hole that Everquest left. A lot of varied skill sets including animal forms like a Cow or Spider. Only drawback is they are doing Data wipes still. So will warn people to stay away till it releases so you don't waste all your time. Will change review to good when that happens.

Ugly but complete
for those who seek true powers (within themselves)
reminded me of wurm online, it s full of good ideas, the sense of progression is good
there s tons of skills to level, you can change them whenever you like
you can turn into a cow, there s a boss that make you head grow and you re unable to use a helmet
and blanche who keep talking about sex, it s hoooooooooot like a potato

this is really well done. reminds me a bit of everquest and being inside a LitRPG novel. love how everything is skill based. quests need to be puzzled out sometimes notes taken to progress. vendors will sell things to me other people sold to them, its makes the world feel more alive and full of people. the game is very gear dependant and the gear system is very random. like you could get a sword with staff requirements to use and it buffs staff skills so its pretty worthless. the textures are pretty low quality and the game looks not as good as other modern games but i think the graphics give the game a certain charm and flexibility. theres definitely beauty in this game. the demo is free and will seamlessly transition into the full game. Give the demo a shot if you are at all interested.

I was skeptical at first when a friend recommended this to me.
I tried the demo since a week ago from this post. The graphics are not polished at all, and it appears to be rigged to have performance issues on purpose to stress-test the game in all aspects.

I am glad I tried the demo version.
The real gem of this game is the gameplay and story (to a lesser degree). If you want graphics, go play Black Desert. If you want a railroaded but nice story, go play FF14.
If you want an open story with excellent gameplay, get this.
After one week of playing for 50 hours, I bought the game and am a fan.

As for updates? You gotta give them slack. I heard it's a 2-man dev team.
They're making consistent progress on such low manpower.

This game has endless game play and while it is still a work in progress it takes a lot of great aspects form older MMO's and puts them in to one game. you can milk other players if they are a Cow. There is some great story line in it as well. They are bringing out some more races, and they have special things about them. If you enjoyed ascheron's call, Ever quest, or even ever quest 2 I would recommend this game for you to take a moment to try.

This game is both bad & good, even if you enjoy the game there's still stuff you will hate about it.
My issue is this game doesn't respect my time. For every 1 hour I get to spend doing what I want to do, I have to spend 5 hours of dealing with tedium. This isn't all the hours I put in the game because I played the demo for quite a while.

Just imagine that you want to play a class. You have to spend 20 hours playing something you hate to unlock that class.
Imagine that you want to find a NPC. You have to spend hours finding that NPC.
Imagine you want to craft something. You have to spend hours because you have to refill your water bottle which requires you to walk over to the fountain, and then back to the crafting stove. Something very simple ends up consuming all your time.

This is a very time consuming game and isn't ideal for people with lives.

This game brings me such joy. I have craved something wacky and fun for a long time I can't praise it enough

Pros:
Fun Gameplay
Class Diversity
Interesting Life skills
It's really innovative
you can play as a pig
you can play as a cow
you can be a literal bard
Just so much cool stuff to cover

CONS:
The game looks like it was made by a small indie company
it was self-published on like a 70,000 dollar kickstart.
So yeah it's graphically gonna look like total garbage

About my Time playing the demo:

I played for 9 hours on the starting island, not because I had to, but because I wanted to level my skills and enjoyed my time. Since I only owned the demo at this time and it does limit you in a few ways i.e. can only talk in the Demo channel and not being allowed to pick up items other players dropped I could not experience alot of the social aspects of the game. But I will buy it gladly once I got the money.

Short summary after playing the Fullversion for 100+h

The GMs/Admins/Community holds fun events and even provide prices for raffles and the like. I love the freedom to build my characters the way I want with the ~25 combat and 75 trade/passive skills.
If you loved sandbox mmo's like swg (star war galaxies) or everquest you will feel right at home.
Here is an example of 2 chars I created so you can get an Idea about the skill combos possible, and the devs confirmed that they will add more races and skills in the future. First Character is a Male Rakshasa (mainly in Wolf form) Lycanthrope/Necromancer and the second char is a Female Elf (in Rabbit form) Priest/Ice Magic. The community are nice and helpful people.

Final Verdict

If you can get over the dated graphics and lags when taking part in the community/admin hosted events. Buy it, it's worth every penny! Otherwise you can wait for the official release and it is currently in Early Access.
And If you are still on the fence, or just like try before you buy play the demo. Your demo character is persistant and you keep him once you buy the full game.

Here's my two cents.

I installed the game a few days ago and have been leveling an unarmed human ever since. Currently I'm killing Pigs, collecting their meat, and bringing the meat to Town. This is so I can raise my favor with Joeh the weapons shopkeeper. Soon he'll like me enough to bring me in on his best quests and items. In addition, I meditate daily to get special unarmed combo skills - this is immensely helpful when fighting Tigers. I need Tiger eyeballs to gain further favor with Joeh and speed my leveling progress.

The beginning of the game felt clunky and it was a bit hard to get the hang of the combat. After awhile things seemed to click, and I found the game itself to be very enthralling. The way you level skills and the PVE structure of Project:Gorgon is fantastic. What this developer really needs is a bunch of money, a team to delegate tasks too, and the support of a company with deep resources. If they got that, I really think they could make one of, if not the best - MMO of all time.

I really like this game, It still needs a lot of work, but at its core it's amazing. It needs a bigger community, and I think it deserves one. Someone throw a bunch of money at this team for god's sake!

Personally I am willing to pay 40 bucks to support what a true MMO experience should feel like.

Do not be fooled by the behind the times graphics, the gameplay of this game is quite immersive and fun. First of all i recommend you try the absolutely free demo which allows you to level your skills up to level 15 with no fee what so ever. If you do decide to purchase the game, you will then be allowed to continue right where you left off from. I was playing the demo for less than an hour before i was sold on this game. There are so many choices you can make, and for an early access game you get your moneys worth for the content they have right now, and there is still much more to come. Like everything else there are a few flaws with the game such as a few interesting graphical bugs, but nothing that breaks the game or hinders your playability of the game at all.

I really like it. I can't really tell you why I like it though. It might be because I'm 35 and it reminds me of dragon age origins as an mmo and I like that kinda simple gameplay. The only complaints I have about it is a lot of the enemies are animals instead of designed monsters, like their own take on goblins, trolls, minatours, etc. I never liked the idea of real like animals in a fantasy setting. Or killing animals in the first place. The other complaint I have is you can't craft weapons or armor, I don't think. You craft pieces of items. I'm actually really confused about the crafting to be honest. It seems very complicated. I havne't been able to really do much of any crafting in the game so far. But I still love the game and it's humor. Kinda pricey but if you wait for a sale it's definitely worth the money then.
