Team up to operate a starship and explore a randomized galaxy falling into chaos. Each player assumes a role aboard the ship: Captain, Pilot, Scientist, Weapons Specialist and Engineer. Coordination between your crewmembers is essential to survive the perils that await you.

Control the various stations that run your ship. Reroute power between ship systems, operate turrets, run powerful programs, scan enemy vessels for information to give you an edge in battle, or start up the warp drive to escape a fight you cannot win. The strategies you use are up to you—or your Captain.

having people to play with is definitely a prerequisite for this game. Very fun concept that i personally feel each role could benefit from being more fleshed out/ more jobs per role. I also feel this concept of game could blow up in popularity overnight given the proper care/ attention to detail/ bigger budget/ recreated from the ground up in a new engine.

Do not mistake my critiques for not enjoying it, having a lot of fun with it and simply thinking out loud

Fantastic game that is a must-have for Star Trek fans!

Lots to do, and each of the 5 classes/roles actually contribute to the team in meaningful ways (unlike Star Trek Bridge Crew).

This game plays like a Star Trek game should, with a few notes taken from Sea of Thieves (boarding/stealing from other ships and the like), and Elite Dangerous (flight mechanics are similar along with the warp/jump system).

Hotas support works, but takes a bit of tinkering. VR is a bit messy at the moment, and wasn't a great experience for me at least using Index controllers. Mouse/Keyboard feel is solid.

Absolutely worth the $25 bucks I paid.

If you have a friend to play with.....or 4, this game is an absolute blast.
It has a little bit of a learning curve to it and there isn't an incredible insane amount of content, but it is simply fun to play together with a few friends.
A few notes:
- finishing a run might take quite a while (especially on your first run)
- Nice artstyle
- I like the planets, although a part of me wishes for them to be more fleshed out
- Great audio too (definitely not for everyone though)
- WARNING towards the end it gets a little spooky

I would recommend this to people who really like space games and want to play with others.
P.S. Full price is worth it for me (already got great playtime and fun out of it) but I recommend waiting for a special price

This game is great with 2-5 players. The AI is really good and can fill in for any missing players.

The puzzles are good.
The boss fights are good.
The story is good, while not being forced upon you.

i love playing thios with my firends its relly fun and good im a relly good enginer and my gf is such a good scientist and my best friend is also the captin and sold loads of tasy cookies where supoer duper good at thuis game we have completed this game and have all the ship the game has a lot of unlockabels for you to colloect and there relly nice looking i have a few my self and i like the way they look on my charect also once i died hehehe and came back as a robot well not relly a robot but morer of a cyborg but my friends called me ugly and so i had to gop back to normal human cloths and limb haha well that was a good review dont you think cool have a good one m9s and buy this game

TL;DR Good start, but quickly the roles find themselves sitting around not needed most of the time.

Oh boy, I really wanted to give a thumbs up on this game knowing that it is an indie developer with only 2 devs, from what I hear. It is impressive in that sense. There is one primary issue I have with the game.

The progression doesn't match the clear core gameplay. Overtime you improve the ship, which is awesome, except it begins to render gameplay null and void. There is not enough for any particular role to do outside of key moments to start with. Scientists are mostly sitting around on the ship unless you are in the middle of a space fight, but even then, it is quite repetitive and not much there. Engineers, once you have a good enough engine, becomes completely unneeded anymore.

What I feel would need to change is looking into updates to the bridge using some inspiration from something like Carrier Command 2, with how the bridge operations work, completely strip the roles/classes, add more things to manage and worry about, perhaps require EVA repairs, make it so people have to find out where the actual damaged location is then physically go there and fix it, like behind wall panels or something. Add some extra strategy, more pros and cons to ship upgrades.

Where Pulsar falls short Carrier Command 2 shines, and the same the other way around,

This game provides hours of fun. I always fantasize about space, so I when I got this game in my discovery queue, I instantly wishlisted it and put it at top priority. I got it a week or two later.

When I got the game, I actually tried refunding it a few minutes after trying to play it. This is because even at seriously low graphics settings, this game ran at under 10 fps on my machine. However, I realized I didn't try disabling multihead on my machine, which usually boosts my FPS considerably on most games. I cancelled my refund request and tried again. I realized that with probably the worst graphics settings anyone could still consider playable (Low graphics, 1136x640 non-native resolution, no extra monitors allowed), I could actually get 20 to 30 FPS on my machine. This is enough for me, as I've definitely seen worse *ahem* ARK: Survival Evolved *ahem*, and despite my game being pixelated and dull, I still really enjoyed it.

One thing I should note here is that this game is very convoluted. It took me several days to figure out what to do after starting a new world. It took me a very long playthrough of the tutorial as well as a few pages of the manual to figure out that the game eventually tells you after you warp around a few times. Don't expect any instant gratification with this game, as after buying you will have to spend at least a few hours of playing before you become experienced enough that the game begins to be fun. And don't even think about buying and then immediately jumping into multiplayer. I am glad I already made that mistake in Counter Strike: Global Offensive.

Overall, this game can provide a lot of fun. I'd imagine it being even more fun with friends, but I haven't tried the multiplayer yet, so I can't tell you that yet.

This game dosn't look like much but is a must with friends at first you will not know what to do thats ok you have 2 real options and one not really helpful option first you can read the manual when you get in the game you and your friends create then you can watch some youtube tutorials to get kinda the gist the not so helpful is the tutorial not all that helpful in my opinion. So to state most important characters to play as humans from most important to least Captin, Engineer, Scientist, Weapons, Pilot. Ai wepons is better than a human typically and Captain can be the pilot so those two aren't as important.

Pulsar makes you feel like you're exploring space like no other game. Your spaceship is your home and feels like something between the Enterprise and the Millennium Falcon. The planets are varied and interesting. There are a million little details that add so much, like that there are spacesuits next to the teleporter pad on your ship, and there's a lever in the engine room that ejects the warp core. The coop is done perfectly, with 5 different roles that have to work together. I've been having space adventures with my kids for quite a while now and there's so much more we want to do and see in this universe. This is an excellent game.

This is one of the types of games I have always wanted to play. Being a crew member on a starship? Freaking awesome! The only issues I have are that while there is a single player mode the bots are just too stupid. The only other gripes I have are that there isnt a way to build your own ship or even a free play thing where you can just explore. Theres no time limit I am aware of to complete the main quest but, just being able to explore with your friends would be awesome. Other than those minor things this game is damn near perfect. If youre a fan of Star Trek or Firefly or any other show thats about a starship crew then this game is for you. So, come aboard!

I do actually really like the concept of this game. Though even after coming out of early access, it's still in desperate need of content. The very VERY bare bones of the game is there. Like if someone built the foundation and said good enough. It's a very nice foundation and I love what they did with the foundation... but it's just a foundation. Absolutely every mechanic and concept is running at like 10% of its potential, and just so painfully clearly feels as though it's just missing everything that would make it compelling.

I've got 20 hours into this game and I'm having a pretty great time with it. My friends and I spend a lot of time laughing and bantering back and forth as we come to grips with learning how to successfully fly a starship in the various scenarios. The ship designs are great, the missions are challenging (sometimes a bit too much so), and overall it just feels like you're in an episode of Star Trek (which is really fun).

I do, however, have a couple of gripes about the game:

1. The planets are just really, really empty looking. Your mission objective, more often than not, is a mountain or a structure waaaaaaay off in the middle of a gigantic expanse of....nothing. Everything (except the structure you're in) is completely abandoned and barren. I'd like to see trees, alien creatures, other humanoids and maybe even towns or cities to visit on these planets. Right now, they're all just kind of....meh.

2. Switching between first and third-person views will sometimes cause graphical glitches that can cause your ship to become stuck inside structures.

3. The bot AI leaves much to be desired.

That's it. Pulsar: Lost Colony, despite it's flaws, is still a pretty fun game to play with friends and worth checking out for something a little different.

Grab a good set of friends where everyone gets along with everyone, set the goal according to the faction's tenets, and you've got one of the best co-op games available on the market.
- Know your role well, and it'll make or break the whole dynamics of the ship's actions.

Factions:
C.U feels as the classic blend of exploration/battle/Star Trek-esque faction, same for its ships. - Captain Pickard & The Gang.
- W.D. Corporation I'd in my opinion regard as the most boring in its plotline and playstyle, but everyone else works and feels completely different. - Crush Kill'n Destroy, without much variation
- A.O.G. when you want to go for the privateer path of jamming comms and extorting other ships and/or boarding them just to stay alive. - Living on the Edge.
- The Fluffy Biscuit Company throws everything upside down. It's about biscuits. Deal with it and create the greatest biscuits ever known to Galaxy. - Not what you'd expect even from reading this. The wild card faction.

- Old Relic/Alien Ships. This is where it gets interesting. Fully changes the game dynamics and to unlock them, you gotta finish the game at least once.

Thanks to the Release Version's adjustable Chaos Level system, even experienced crews can get more out of their playthrough, by expanding the galaxy, cranking the max Chaos Level up/etc.
- C.U. Boring? Grab a Roland and max out the Chaos Level. Try winning those Space Races now, bucko!
- W.D. Too dakka for you? Spread the infected and you'll be surviving like in Freespace 1/2, and Wing Commander Prophecy.
- A.O.G can become a real survival of life & death when those Bounty and Relic Hunters come at you at once, with a cranked up Chaos Level.

It's your game, for your enjoyment. You make it what you want it to be.

Running on Ubuntu 18.04 and Vulkan - works smoothly, so far no problems.

The game has come a long way since it first hit the Steam store. The graphics are fun and give the game a bit of a light hearted feel, which goes well with a game featuring the ability to play as what is essentially intergalactic biscuit deliverymen. Each role feels different but some are less involved than others and can become boring, so playing with friends helps. There are enough options with ships and components that you can play different ways without feeling overwhelmed. A lot of the quests are simple fetch quests, which gets repetitive, which is another reason why playing with friends is recommended. It isn't perfect but it is a fun space exploration game with some decent ship to ship combat and some funny moments that make for a fun times with friends.

This is a hidden gem, not alot of people know this game and its a shame.
It doesnt look amazing but i do enjoy the style.

The Story is pretty solid and enjoyable and the quests are fun, but the absolute best of this game,
the feature it excells at in my opinion is the Space battles and the ship customization.

The art style works great and with space battles against other ships and there is alot of fun stuff
you can do to slay your enemies, from uploading viruses, to different Ship Guns.
The simple art style is perfect because it doesnt get to confusing , i have also played
Elite dangerous, dont get me wrong that is also a great game but I find space battles in this game
much more satisfying.

If you like to play with your friends and enjoy space games i can really recommend this game.

Probably one of the best space adventure co-op game I've played to date. As the title suggests you're going off on an adventure to find the lost colony in a galaxy that's going at each others necks in the race to find it but you can forgo that and become a pirate, bounty hunter or a plain old nuisance that shoots first, asks questions posthumously and hunted relentlessly by the game's major factions.

The game is predominantly about ship-to-ship combat as you travel into the unknown while making sure your ship is capable of fighting whatever comes your way, or at the very least survive the escape attempt when you're not prepared, but there are occasional missions where you will be making planet fall with some first person shooter segments. To complete tasks that your ship can't do.

You can do it alone (with bots to supplement) or with up to 4 of your friends, each with a unique role to play to ensure your ship's survival. With all the major tasks of; navigating the ship around hazards and minimising damage, playing the diplomat, relaying information about the enemy ship, making sure your ship's weapons actually hit something, and making sure the ship's reactor doesn't blow up from being overloaded.

Thanks to the game's fairly substantial character creation, you can also expect emergent storytelling that overshadows the game's intended story (in a good way) and create an adventure that is truly personal to you and your buds.

Overall I highly recommend Pulsar. I especially recommend it if you and 1, 2, 3 or 4 friends of yours are mutually interested and plan on playing together. As for the VR support, the game achieves making an immersive VR adventure but it is best played in VR sparingly, as you will find yourself idling deciding what to do next in your adventure half the time and having a headset and screen to your face can be tiring to the point you'd just want to switch back to desktop.

I have been playing this game for a couple years now, They are constantly updating it and adding new content. I always have fun with this game when playing with my friends. It is a nice way to meet some folks if you play as an open crew. Sometimes you will get those folks that cause mischief, but I have not ran into that so much. If you like Star Trek or simple space battles this game is for you.

Absolutely amazing COOP space adventure, you can almost always find some people online to play with if you don't have enough friends to form a proper crew. I have played every role for over a dozen hours and I honestly can't pick a favorite.

Pilot: fun to fly the ship, rolling weapons to face enemies, or just out flying a numerically superior foe.

Engineer: power and resource management, in the early game your job is massively stressful, but with a good reactor the game shifts from staying alive, to maximizing power output.

Captain: Responsible for the absolute chaos that your crew can enact, and you can double as basically any role when the situation calls.

Incredibly fun co-op spaceship game. A variety of playstyles are all really viable (being a boarding pirate crew is the most fun one I've found so far!) and all the spaceship interiors are cozy and well-designed.

There's a lack of general polish that is about par for early access; the main hurdle to playing the game is getting friends to play it with while it's in early access. The tutorializing and everything that each role can do could also do with some polish; however, I've found the easiest way to teach people the game is to just yolo them into a save with some experienced people :)

This game is a true labor of love and it gets better all the time. I've been playing it for a couple years now with some friends and it is a fun way to spend and evening. Are the controls perfect? Not always. Does the game have some bugs still? It's early access so of course! But nothing has been game ruining for us. I feel like they've done some great work in the past year balancing out the space battles and making everything a bit prettier.

My advice is buy this if you have a group of 3-4 friends to play with (so you can have a full crew). It's not quite as fun with less people and there are not many random groups to join. But if you can find a crew, you're good to go!

I've played this in a group of five players and I was surprised how much fun it was. Each session presented new interesting missions and encounters. The mechanics and the different locations often demand good communication between you and your peers. If the graphics put you off, I encourage you to see past them. The effort has been put into the content that really matters: missions, ships, encounters etc. I hope there's much more to explore and that the devs will expand even further on the already rich galaxy.

This game is phenomenal. It's like a cross between Star Trek, Artemis, and FTL. It's a co-op bridge simulator where each position operates a part of the ship and you must work as a team to survive. You travel across the galaxy encountering something random at each point, either a space battle or an away mission. There's plenty of different things to try, between space exploration, space battles, gladiator style arenas, space racing, fighting bosses.

Best played with friends but even the public games tend to be fun.

all around, this game is 10/10 for me. the lore is excellent and one of the main attractions for me, and i have never seen any game simulate a space environment like this one. the game is simple at heart yet there is so much to see and do, and without paying attention to everything you will fail. i would personally say the game only goes at the pace you want it to, because you can choose when to warp to a different sector and pick another fight, you can usually have as much downtime as you want in between fights to recover and prepare. i personally find the ship combat of the game too easy, however; all i need to do to take out a ship is damage its shields then board it to kill its crew. as for drones, i feel they can be too intimidating to a newer crew but can make for a decent fight mid-game (late-game they become pretty easy as well). so; overall, the game itself is easy to play and master, maybe too easy at times, but there is a lot of things to explore in the galaxy, a lot of things to do, and the game has good replayability. i'd say definitely at least try the game.

Pros:
- Surprisingly nice community

- Game is basically designed to strengthen playing with friends

- The feeling of coming together as a team in a tense ship-to-ship fight is really good

- Towards the beginning, the jobs you get can be generally pretty engaging

- You literally get to play as the crew of a starship

Cons:
- Everything gets repetitive

- The game is pretty much mostly planet missions, and the actual gunfighting is comprised mostly of shooting at stationary targets and dying depending on your race, it's just not very engaging

- As a whole, the ship-to-ship fights are always the same, where you don't have a lot of ways to approach the situation or improve your arsenal except in flat numbers or getting one or two new viruses in combat (the only ways to handle a ship-to-ship fight are to shoot to destroy or just board them)

- As opposed to Captain, Engineer, and Science, Weapons and Pilot have very simple jobs and therefore can spend most of their game time bored and doing nothing or having no special talent to contribute to the mission at hand, most especially in the case of the Weapons player, who literally only fires the weapon in ship-to-ship combat

- Even when playing as the most engaging roles, 2/3 of them involve standing in front of a screen and pressing buttons and managing sliders

- Marketed as 'up to five players', but if you aren't playing with at least three or four players, you're not going to have a good time

There are other pros and other cons, but these ones stuck out the most to me. I'm on the fence about whether I should recommend this. 25 bucks is a bit much for a game I've gotten almost entirely bored of after less than 40 hours of playtime. On the other hand, it's a pretty decent game.

Short:
Pulsar is a cooperative game where you can roleplay as the crew of a knock-off Star Trek ship and do all the questionable things you wish your favorite captain would do. Absolutely hilarious with friends.

Long:
Pulsar offers a pretty unique set of ships to start out with. It dumps you right into the game with no tutorial, but that is fine. The core loop of the game is do missions, get money, upgrade ship and Pulsar really offers a goodiebag full of opportunities for that. The game's mechanics feel rewarding to play, although it can be slow to progress sometimes.

Each time you warp to a new location, there's a chance for ships to fight, extort, or leave alone. You never really know what you may find.

The most rewarding part of Pulsar is cooperating with your team to take down your mission. Combat can be as simple as punching the enemy to death, or as hard as hacking their shields and sending your crew through the teleporter to do a hostile takeover.

The ship customization really allows you to tailor the ship to your needs. The starting bits help guide your play, but you can turn that cloaking space yacht into a fighter. Or turn the giant heavyweight cruiser into a speedboat.

fun with friends, this game is good but as others have said, the spaces are too massive for what they contain. most planets will have one small building which makes me question the need of them at all. the space combat is very well done in my opinion and the spaceship management is something completely fresh, the feeling of controlling this ship in basically every way is great.

I have only played for a handful of hours and already love the game. Everyone that says that is the best Star Trek-like game is telling the truth. Get it while it is on sale while you can. My brother and I have been having a blast playing it together with friends and randoms.

Sandbox CO-OP Starship Crew. What is not to like? Graphics are meh. But game play makes up for it in spades. If you have four friends you like tooling around with generally getting into trouble and working as a team, this game is for you.

just started it, it seems really good, a big random universe great for unknown gameplay, it felt like a better privateer type game, and wow it has a vr mode. i like the older game nostalga but its done right in a modern way, im really enjoying it

Holy Moses! Didnt have high hopes for this game when i first saw it but it was on sale so took a shot. Absolutely amazing! Very enjoyable with your mates. Lots of great laughs. So much to do too. Graphics are not mind blowing but i think that why there arent any glitches yet that I've noticed. Well done, devs! Thank you for such a great game. Worth full price for sur.

I tried really, really hard to like this game. It's great fun with friends for your first run, but in future runs the game loses it's magic. You find yourself in the same situations each game, taking to the same people and doing the same missions. After a little while you learn that it's incredibly easy to make stupid amounts of money by accepting the same missions every time, and the difficulty of the game really isn't that high because of this, even in expert mode. I understand that the team working behind the game has put a lot of time into making it what it is, but it's been out for five years. The level of polish, balancing, and replay value on the game just doesn't seem to reflect the amount of time they've had to work on it.

Things i like:
-Crew Simulator
-Can single-player it (if you really want to)
-Selection of ships and parts
-different roles and talents
-faction story-lines
-Nice community
-VR compatible (if you can afford it)
-community discord

So-So things:
-No PVP
-Still in development
-moderate replayability
-somewhat interesting controls

Things i dislike:
-Some of the planets take ages to walk around
-Small player-base
-bots are dumb sometimes

Conclusion
I very fun crew-simulator game. Unfortunately has a small player-base. I would recommend this game full price if you enjoy other crew-simulators like guns of icarus or sea of thieves. If you're new to crew-sims then i would recommend picking this up on a sale to try out.

Overall we, my friends and I, had a very positive experience playing this game and I hope to see more updates with additional content. I'd love to learn more about the world, and have more missions to undergo with my friends in co-op. One of the best Early Access games I've played since Rimworld's early access. The roles on the ship are straight forward and easy to learn. Everyone has their part to play, and really feels like no one gets left behind. The scenery looking out into space from the windows of the ship is beautiful. Very fun game. Highly recommend.

A couple of things I've noted after playing for a few hours.

Captain's Chair glitch
While playing with some friends, we had two humans, two robots, and a Sylvassi. When the humans sat in the chair and got up, sometimes they would take damage from no apparent source. While testing this, it didn't seem to happen to the robots, but we recreated the scenario a couple of times between the sylvassi and the human characters.

Scanner
The NPCs and interactable objects have the same color blips on the scanner item. We noticed this while doing the mansion mission. All of the items in the museum showed up as the color on the legend for NPCs. I don't know if this is intentional or not, so just mentioning it.

Scrap boxes
Playing an engineer while I was learning how to process scrap, I exited out of the minigame and couldn't go back into it. Unsure if this is intended or a glitch. Not a huge deal since the captain can also process scrap.

The last here is more of a personal preference.
Robot customization has significantly less options than the humans and Sylvassi. Sylvassi have less than humans. Being that this is an early access game, I look forward to seeing if you guys implement more options.

This game is shallow and boring. Sure, an hour in you're thinking that there's going to be a lot to it, but there really isn't much there at all.

If you're an engineer, you have to adjust the power levels to various systems to make sure that everything's powered and not overheating - or you can just buy a core that can handle more power and you really don't have to do much of anything.

As a scientist you're supposed to run scans and programs and viruses and counter-viruses. These just become tedious after a time because you're literally sitting on a screen clicking buttons every 10 seconds or so. Really captivating gameplay. I'd rather play cookie clicker. At least I click more.

As a gunner, you left click and hover your mouse over a target. And if that doesn't work you can just use homing missiles. It's not hard. It's just a matter of time before you win really.

As a captain, you can do all of these things for your players, and often do because they're probably checked out on their phones due to the downtime between gameplay.

The most fun is probably the pilot, but even then its not like there's various and many obstacles to avoid in space - its usually just one big rock and chasing the bad guys who will inevitably die if the gunner holds right click.

So yeah, the only reason I made it as far as I did was because all my friends were playing. We even killed a big boss outside of the ship - which was the most fun content in the game. It only took 15 hours of mediocrity and boredom to get there.

An excellent game. Great fun to play with friends and scream at each other and you try to stop your ship from falling apartt. Would recommend a minimum crew of 3 or else it can become a bit boring. Can't wait to see what the Devs do with it.

whats not to like about hopping into a random space ship to fly across space and make some friends with random people as you explore strange worlds, battle on world and in your ship as well as taking over hostile ships to extract parts to use/sell or just blow them up for scrap, theres quest but you dont have to do them one is a huge 3 boss dungeon

This game has been in EA for a long time, I've followed its slow progression since 2015. While it's still in EA, I can safely say it's one of the major success stories of EA. It's now at a place that its reliable and has a ton of content. Best played with a group of 5, but still good with 3 or 4. The amount of stuff you can do in this game is impressive. It does have a bit of a learning curve but it's well worth the time and effort. This is a game that our community has been playing on and off for a long time, and when someone in the discord is looking to fill a crew, I always have a great time, no matter what role I am playing.

Definitely a game you want to play with your friends. Bought it for all my friends, we operated an Intrepid-class with the 5 of us and it was the most fun we've had with anything in years. We played 12 hours straight in our first weekend session alone. 10/10, would nuke severely-under-leveled bandit frigates again.

I do enjoy playing the game. The combat is probably the worst part of it and sometimes it's hard to modify your ship and systems, you're not sure what all the shortcuts and abreviations mean. Other than that, it's great fun playing it with friends.

I find this a hilarious way to connect with my kids who are in college. We can agree on a time and play and laugh when crazy things happen! Robots! Haha! My son gets to Captain, my daughter is the gunner, and I am the pilot. So much fun to be able to work together like that.

Great with friends, can be a bit clunky to learn but all comes together when you find a role you enjoy and are good at. Some missions can drag on a little with no objective markers (although science guys can detect certain mission related items). Overall, it feels like a First-Person CO-OP FTL. And that is a very, very good thing.

Fair warning - You really do need other people to play this game. The crew bots are really stupid and will hinder you the moment they're expected to do anything aside from stand at their console and perform basic ship operations.

Once you get some people together, the game has a lot going for it after you get past the vague terminology and unexplained info points on most of the ship control panels. You'll want to have newbies reference a wiki for a while to clear things up until there's a good training/tutorial implemented. After your crew knows something about how to manage things, you can really get yourself into trouble and get blown up spectacularly.

Looking forward to this being better-developed in the future, and hopefully it gets through Early Access with great new features in tow.
