Coop-Roguelike vom Feinsten.
Immer wieder Trial and Error bis alles freigeschaltet ist. Der Schwierigkeitsgrad steigt mit steigender Spielzeit, was nie für Langeweile sorgt.
Eigentlich ist diese Art Spiel nie meine Welt gewesen. Doch Risk of Rain 2 macht einen riesigen Coop Spaß.

The game peaked my interest with its highly positive reatings, and I gotta say that already after just under 2 hours i can completely understand it. Game feels satisfying to play, its got that mystery vibe that makes you want to explore it yourself, and there is SO MUCH to do here. Easy recommend for anyone.

Vorgeplänkel

Und mal wieder hat Hopoo Games einen Rougelike-Giganten hervorgebracht, den ich mit Stolz auf mehreren Plattformen besitze, nur damit die Entwickler ein paar Münzen an Umsatz mehr gewinnen. Heute, etliche Runden mit meinen Freunden später, kann ich nicht anders, als für diesen fabelhaften Zeitfresser eine Rezension zu schreiben! Schnallt Euch an: Wir landen unfreiwillig auf Petrichor V!

Präsentation

Kaum haben wir uns inmitten des Sturzfluges entschieden, durch wessen Fähigkeiten wir uns das Überleben erträumen, da verfrachtet uns unsere Rettungskapsel bereits unsanft zur farbenprächtigen Planetenoberfläche, deren Flora nicht unwirklicher und dessen Fauna nicht feindlicher uns gegenüber gesinnt sein könnte. Visuell getragen wird der Anblick dabei von einer Cel-Shade-Optik, durch dessen gezeichnet-wirkenden Stil die Effektgewitter nie überladen scheinen. Unser Bestreben führt uns hierbei durch einige sehr diverse Level, die in sich aber immer stimmig und nie aufgesetzt erscheinen und bei multiplen Läufen dezente Unterschiede aufweisen. Große Varietät oder gar prozedural generierte Welten sollte man jedoch nicht erwarten. Für die Lauscher konnte das Team von Hopoo-Games erneut den griechischen Soundtrack-Titanen Chris Christodoulou gewinnen, der mit seinen Synth- und Gitarrensounds erneut auf voller (K)länge begeistert. Ehre sei Chris insbesondere durch seine Hommage an Prince beschieden, welche natürlich im violettesten aller Level vom Himmel erschallt. Selbst wenn diese Spielreihe nur einem reduzierten, einfarbigen Pong ohne Ball gleichen würde, allein für die Musik stünde es bei mir in den Favoriten!

Spieldesign

Hier lacht das Wiederspielbarkeitsherz! Seien es die vielen unterschiedlichen Klassen, die in sich nochmals anhand ihres austauschbaren Fähigkeitenregisters brillieren, die etlichen Gegenstände, von denen alle eine maßgebliche Wirkung im Spielgeschehen entfalten, die zahlreichen Modifikatoren, welche jeden Lauf nochmals experimenteller gestalten oder das Konzept des zeitlich ansteigenden Schwierigkeitsgrades, der die Spielenden sachte zum handeln drängt. Risk of Rain 2 ist rund konzipiert und besticht insbesondere dadurch, dass eben jene Items, Charaktere und Fähigkeiten zunächst erspielt werden müssen, was durch motivierende Freischalterfolge innerhalb der Läufe punktgenau funktioniert. Manches geschieht beiläufig, anderes wiederum will bis ins Kleinste geplant werden, was eben die Wiederspielbarkeit des Spiels in den Vordergrund stellt. Der PvE-Coop wirkt hierbei stets belohnend, da man sich im gemeinsamen Bestreben de facto nicht im Wege stehen kann. Doch auch auf nichtmenschlicher Seite haben die Weltenbummler definitiv Schmackes; so bekommen wir es zum Beispiel mit Schwärmen an im Sande lebenden Insekten, umherwabernden Quallen, die bei Berührung explodieren (wer kennt es nicht) oder widrigen Pilzen zu tun, die aus ihrem Erdreich heraus Flächenschaden auf uns regnen lassen. Dass dann noch manche dieser Kerlchen die Weiterbildung zum Elitestatusgegner mit summa cum laude absolviert haben und uns hierdurch bestärkt mit Extrafähigkeiten beharken; ja, das erfordert dann nochmal mehr spielerisches Geschick.
Eine Runde verläuft dabei stets in einer festen Rotation: Man startet an einem zufälligen Ort auf einer Ebene und prügelt aus den Einheimischen alleine oder gemeinsam jenen Zaster, der glücklicherweise exakt in die herumliegenden Kisten unseres abgestürzten Schiffes passt (welch ein Glück: Einheitliche Währungen behaupten sich erneut!). Daraus springen Items in unterschiedlicher Seltenheit, die uns etwaige Boni verschaffen, mit denen wir der uns umgebenden, feindlichen Meute effektiver den Garaus machen. Welche Items uns dabei das gewisse Etwas verschaffen, ist komplett dem Zufall überlassen (es sei denn, man wählt den Modifikator für wählbare Items an). Sind die Ländereien abgegrast, begibt man sich zum Teleporter, drückt das Knöpfchen und erkämpft den Triumph gegen einen (oder mehrere) Boss(e) und etliche Heerscharen an Gefolge, bis der Teleporter voll aufgeladen ist. Kurz verschnauft und es geht weiter zur nächsten Eskapade. Eine Wohltat für die Sinne!

Geschichte

Wir stranden mal wieder auf einer fremdenfeindlichen Welt (darf man das so schreiben?) und prügeln uns den Weg zur Heimkehr frei. Vor Lore strotzt das Spiel nicht, aber für die Findigen unter uns verbergen sich eben doch kleinste Happen feinster Hintergrundgeschichte innerhalb der Spielwelt. Erklärungen zu Items und Gegnertypen oder was gewisse Ebenen so besonders macht, verschaffen uns zumindest einen einfachen Einblick auf das Geschehen. Ansonsten sind hier keine Zwischensequenzen zu erwarten, bis auf das einstimmende Intro und das glückshormontriefende Outro.

Kritik

Nein, so ganz in Watte packen mag ich meinen kleinen Liebling dann natürlich doch nicht. Sind erstmal 40 Stunden auf dem Buckel, was für heutige Digitalveteranen natürlich ein Pappenstiel darstellt, dann kennt man irgendwann eben doch seine Ebenen und Feindbilder, hat seinen präferierten Allzeithelden und guffelt umher, wie beim zigsten Besuch des Freizeitparks nahe der Landstraße. Man kennt die Späße früher oder später und prozedural erzeugte Spielwelten können da manchmal doch für noch längeren Spieltrieb sorgen. Allerdings ist das ein Jammern auf höchstem Niveau, da auch prozedurale Spiele ihre Schattenseiten haben (Fels auf Baum, Hütte unter Wasser, etc.). Und auch die feindliche Meute hätte diverser sein können, wenn auch nicht zwangsweise. Per Ebene streifen zwischen zwei und vier Gegnertypen die Weiten. Kennt man die knapp 10 Biome, dann sieht man sich irgendwann satt. Erneut weine ich hier in Hände, die über 100 Stunden Spaß am Spiel hatten und hier nur eine allzu subjektive Kritik äußern. Störend empfand ich es nie, aber geschadet hätte mehr Variantenreichtum eben auch nicht. Ich bin aber auch ein undankbares Aas!

Fazit

Risk of Rain 2 lädt zu vielen Abenteuern ein. Will man sich mal wieder den angehäuften Stress vom Alltag aus der Seele ballern? Doppel-Gatling-Gun Roboter und ab die Post! Soll einfach nur die Zeit verstreichen, während man sich sinnlich vom Komponisten der Spielmusik die Trommelfelle massieren lässt? „Feuerwerker“ angewählt (es ist einfach zu Tode übersetzt...) und wir schweben davon. Eine Runde mit den guten Freunden, mitsamt des obligatorischen Plauschs? Das Spiel kann definitiv nebenher gedaddelt werden, während man sich vom Geschehen der Woche berichtet. Oder will man das Spiel bis ins Absurde ausreizen und den armen Überlebenden sieben Stunden lang mit Gegenständen bekleistern, bis nicht mal mehr die Äuglein aus dem Moloch des Todes herauslunzen? Klar, gebt Euch dem Verderben ruhig hin!
Ich kann Risk of Rain 2 nahezu allen empfehlen, die ein Spiel suchen, welches sich „mal eben spielen“ lässt, so wie es dazumal beispielsweise mit Left 4 Dead ging. Nur eben, dass diesmal die Item- und Klassenvielfalt die Läufe diverser und dadurch eben auch spannender staffiert. Es geht alleine, begeistert in Gruppen absolut und der Soundtrack wird sicherlich nicht nur auf meinem Handy in Schleife laufen. Aber nun verzeiht mir; ich muss durch den Monsun… (die Analogie ist bestechend schrecklich)

you like rouge like games? you like carnage and very long runs (sometimes 80 minutes and more if you want)?
Then this game is for you. just try it. once you get one good run (trust me it is fun even on easy) youll be hooked. its like finding that one sick item combination in isaac but every combination is sick.

Oh mein Gott, ich verstehe es so langsam!, und ich dachte ich sei schlecht in dem Game. Nun weiß ich, dass aller Anfang weile braucht und man auch sehr oft den Löffel ab gibt. Dennoch solltet ihr dran bleiben, denn wenn ihr die ersten Artefakte euer nennen dürft, wird das Spiel erst Interessant. Nicht gleich auf dem Hardmode Spielen, sondern gemächlich an das Ultimative Böse ran tasten, dann habt ihr auch eine Menge Spielspaß daran. Es dauert auch ein wenig sich mit den Skills anzufreunden, aber learning by doing.
Und, ich renne immer noch mit meinem Commander rum, die anderen Charrs muss ich noch einige Testen. Aber irgendwie ist der Commander halt DER Commander :)

in diesem Sinne, viel Spaß beim Üben und ein Tipp, nicht aufgeben :P. Euer Toasti

Dope, intense, roguelike TPS with lots to see and lots to unlock. Does not feature permanent progression, except for the unlocking of characters, abilities and items. The unique infinite stacking of items and modifiers can lead to absolutely ridiculous runs, which become even more ridiculous with up to 3 friends in co-op. Also features a beautiful visual style and a very memorable soundtrack. The devs did an amazing job throughout early access and I can't wait to see what's next. ;^)

Extrem gutes Spiel.

Ich spiele Risk of Rain 2 jetzt schon fast seit dem Release, nicht durchgehend, aber immer wieder etwas. Wenn man sich einmal in das Spiel eingefunden hat, bereitet es sehr viel spass.

Dieses Spiel ist unendlich empfehlenswert! Ich habe, in den paar Stunden, die ich bereits gespielt habe, sehr viel Spaß, gutes Gefühl beim zocken und erstaunlich viel Abwechslung erfahren dürfen. Neben entspannten Runden in der Freundesgruppe, kann man sich auch als Try Hard entpuppen und das Spiel auswendig lernen, um mit anderen zu fachsimpeln. Auch wenn das vielleicht nicht auf den ersten Blick so wirkt bietet Risk of Rain 2 bis ins letzte Stück Abwechslung. Und da ich noch nicht alles erreicht habe, entschuldigt mich bitte. Ich bin in RoR2

Falls jemand der dort mitgearbeitet hat das sieht: Ihr habt wundervolle Arbeit geleistet und mein absolutes Lieblingsspiel kreiert. Danke

Ich habe Anfangs nicht geglaubt, dass mir das Spiel so gut gefallen würde, als mein Kumpel es mir empfohlen hat, aber ich muss sagen: Ich liebe es. Das beste Spiel was ich jemals gespielt habe, im ernst. Wir spielen das als kleine Gruppe schon eine ganze Weile und sind absolut begeistert. Als wir das Spiel durchgespielt hatten, waren wir einfach nur geflashed. Hier und da finden sich bei mir ein paar bugs, was aber absolut verkraftbar ist. Vielen Dank an die Spiel Hersteller für die absolut fantastischen 60 Stunden und für die noch folgenden! Absolut weiterzuempfehlen, jeden cent wert.

I highly recommend this game. You have so much options caused by a great variety of characters and items.

A few more characters and areas would be fine but the developers are already on it i guess.

Oh and you can only call a run officially over if your pc shuts the game down by itself as a result of too much progress, damage numbers and enemys.

Ganz im ernst was soll ich sagen. Super Spiel macht echt Spaß. Guter Multiplayer. Ist aber nach so einer 2 Stunden Runde auch hart anstrengend :D

Ich muss sagen das ich seit langer Zeit nicht mehr so ein gutes und spaßiges Multiplayer Spiel gefunden habe. Es mach echt spaß und selbst wenn alle tot sind und man von vorne Anfängt hält das einen nicht auf Stunden in dieses Spiel zu investieren.

Für alle die Überlegen sich dieses Spiel zu holen, kann ich nur sagen, gönnt es euch.
Das Spielprinzip ist einfach:

Ihr tötet Monster und beschwört den Boss sobald ihr das Portal gefunden habt. Wenn ihr das geschafft habt kommt ihr ins nächste lvl. Es droppen itims die euch Verbesserungen geben und diese sind alle Stapelbar und dann schaut man wie weit man es schafft.

Jedes lvl hat geheime Orte die man entdecken kann und welche gut versteckt sind.
Das Trefferfeedback ist bombe und überhaupt ist das Spiel gut durchdacht und auch eindeutig für den Multiplayer ausgelegt.

Für jeden der es mag Monsterhorden abzuschlachten und Boss fights zu haben, in einem immer schneller werden Spiel, ist hier genau richtig.
Und der Grafik Stil passt Perfekt.

What an amazing dungeon crawler. It's pure fun. Alone or with friends. The sercrets to find and stuff to unlock gives plenty of more time to play and it's always a new challange. 10/10

The game is very fun and I like the art style, BUT trying to play multiplayer is extremely frustrating, but when it works, it works.

1.) This game uses P2P for it’s multiplayer and there is NO DAMN OPTION to set the search region, this means the game shuffles players all around the globe together.

2.) If you load into a lobby (character selection) and you can't connect to other players because they sit on the other side of the planet and the game decides to start the game, the game freezes with a black screen.

Developers, overhaul the multiplayer lobby before the final release, it’s so frustrating, PLEASE.

Risk of Rain 2 ist ein großartiges Spiel. Sicher nicht für alle, aber für viele Spieler. Manchen mag es selbst auf der niedrigsten Schwierigkeitsstufe zu schwer sein, doch ist hier im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes noch kein Meister vom Himmel gefallen. Es fällt mir schwer, Kritikpunkte anzuführen, bei einem Spiel, dessen Suchtpotential schier unendlich scheint.

Dennoch gibt es Kleinigkeiten, an denen Hopoo Games arbeiten kann. So muss die Latenz in Mehrspielerpartien geringer werden, um der stetig wachsenden Spielerschaft die Möglichkeit zu bieten, gemeinsam zu grinden. Während sie dies tut, wäre es ebenfalls schön, ein Lootsystem einzuführen, in dem Spieler sicher vor Itemdiebstahl sind.

Von den wenigen Problemen einmal abgesehen, macht Risk of Rain 2 einfach so viel richtig. Grafik, Sound und Musik sind bereits auf hohem Niveau, der Wiederspielwert enorm und die Herausforderung ohne Frage jedes Mal aufs Neue vorhanden. Auch im Singleplayer macht dieses Spiel unfassbar viel Spaß.

Und eben dieser Spaß ist der größte Pluspunkt von RoR2. Das Gameplay ist über jeden Zweifel erhaben. Während ich dieses Review verfasse, wurden bereits eine Million Einheiten von Risk of Rain 2 verkauft, innerhalb eines Monats. Die positiven Reviews überschlagen sich mit Lob und lieben Worten, denen ich mich nur anschließen kann. Ganz klare Kaufempfehlung!

Hey look buddy, I'm an Engineer. Which means I use fungus. Not fungus like weeping fungus, because that would mean I would have to get off my lazy ass to get healed. I use bustling fungus. For instance, how am I gonna stop some big mean brass contraption from tearin' me a structually superflous new behind? The answer? Use a shield. And if that don't work, use your turrets. Like this, heavy-caliber tripod-mounted little-old-number designed by me. Built, by me. And I best hope... I don't run outta fungus.

You might see some comments here, joking about a lack of actual rain.
But I've seen it.
Perhaps they just haven't played it long enough, but after 300+ hours, I now realise something.

I've seen lightning fall from a storm cloud of missiles,

The original Risk of Rain was one of my first experiences in PC Indie Gaming, and it left quite an impression on me. From its stylistic character design, to the 2d side-scrolling ability spam fest, and an ending with music so beautifully appropriate it ended up permanently etched into my mind. So, when Hopoo Games, a studio of 4!!!! Individuals announced they were making a 2nd game and it would be 3d, I was all for it. I haven't written a review for this game yet, but I've owned it since it was first available in early access and with its first DLC on the horizon I think its time. Theirs a lot of reasons why I think this game is one of my favorites, and why it succeeds so much over its predecessor, which in its own right is fantastic:

The transition from 2d to 3d while keeping its style is incredible. From the ability usage, to the items, it all feels amazing as your character transcends into a beast until you either beat the game or loop until you die.
With the items you can feel that rush of getting a red on stage 1, or simply feeling happy at finally getting those damn crit glasses for when you desperately need one. Every item serves a purpose that benefits you in a very direct, observable way.
Plenty of secrets to unlock and explore, from hidden stages, characters, and items, it can keep you busy for a long time.
A wide variety of characters that all allow for a distinct play-style while also having switchable abilities that changes elements of their kit.
It is one of the best soundtracks that I've ever heard. From the active teleporter boss jams, to the quiet serenity of the earlier stages, to the absolutely fantastic finale of ...con lentitud poderosa it's an incredible listening experience, every time.
Easily accessible coop through steam, alongside the new addition of challenge modes for people who want that extra difficulty or variety in their runs,

So, should YOU buy this game? 100%. Play a few rounds on your own to get the hang of it, then once you inevitably get hooked, tell all your friends to buy it, and jam out with them. Your music will be electric.

Old Fashioned Pumpkin Pie

2 large eggs
1 large egg yolk
1/2 cup packed dark brown sugar
1/3 cup white sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/8 teaspoon cardamom
1/2 teaspoon finely grated lemon zest
2 cups pumpkin purée from a sugar pumpkin (see Recipe Note) OR 1 (15-ounce can) pumpkin purée (can also use puréed cooked butternut squash)
1 1/2 cups heavy cream or 1 (12-ounce) can evaporated milk
1 homemade pie crust, chilled or frozen (see pâte brisée recipe or our no-fail flaky pie crust recipe), or 2 pre-made pie shells

Preheat the oven:
Preheat your oven to 425°F.
Make the filling:
Beat the eggs in a large bowl. Mix in the brown sugar, white sugar, salt, spices — cinnamon, ground ginger, nutmeg, ground cloves, cardamom, and lemon zest.
Mix in the pumpkin purée. Stir in the cream. Beat together until everything is well mixed.

Fill the pie shell and bake:
Pour the filling into an uncooked chilled or frozen pie shell. Bake at a high temperature of 425°F for 15 minutes.
Then after 15 minutes, lower the temperature to 350°F. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes more. The pie is done when a knife tip inserted in the center comes out wet but relatively clean. The center should be just barely jiggly.
(About half-way through the baking, you may want to put foil around the edges or use a pie protector to keep the crust from getting too browned.)
Note that the pumpkin pie will come out of the oven all puffed up (from the leavening of the eggs), and will deflate as it cools.

This game is really fun and well executed on very many levels

Combat: each character in this game feels totally unique and has a fun and devastating move set, and each boss and enemy in the game is equally as unique and fun to fight against, especially the final boss

Exploration: each stage is grand and epic to explore with beautiful scenery and graphics all around, even on low settings like mine. Finding every hidden thing is a super fun part of the game and will take dozens or hundreds of hours

Design: the whole design of the game encourages risk taking for reward. Go fast and have less items, of go slow and have more items, while the enemy's are getting stronger by time. It's a very fun mechanic that puts a ton of pressure on the player while still totally allowing for freedom to play how you want

Unlockables: this game has toooons of unlockables that will take many hours to unlock, but they are all fun and completing the challenges to unlock them is fun as well. Highly recommend for people who lov to unlock abilities and items

Music and sound: both the music and sound design in this game is phenomenal. Despite the variety of dozens of monsters, you will always know what monsters are near just by the sounds they make. And the music is outstanding. I have played the game for hundreds of hours without getting bored of the soundtrack. The ambience of each stage music, the intense battle music, and the beautiful guitar solos make this one of my favorite video game soundtracks

Fun with friends: this game is so much fun with friends. Obviously that's not for everyone, but if you have a group of friends you love to game with, introduce them to this. The games scales very well with groups of players and using your different members abilities to team up and survive is very fun

Variety: there is soo much variety in the gameplay. Not only do you have different classes, but each class has tons of unlockable abilities and powers to use. Additionally, with hundreds of items, you can make tons of different powerful and unique loadouts to wreak havoc and become an unstoppable killing force

In summary, this game is just very fun for people who love combat, abilities, unlockables, exploration, goofing off with friends, or even music. Even some interesting lore to boot, if you're into that, however it's not necessary to enjoy the gameplay. Overall it's just a very fun game and very much worth the price. I recommend just about everyone should give it a try! :steamthumbsup:

This is an unbelievably well-made game. the graphics are crisp and pleasant on the eye, the music is absolutely killer, and the fact that this game is a rouge-lite game with somehow a near-infinite replayability and enjoyment factor is just incredible. One of the best roguelike games out there. I have not played the first Risk of Rain but I can say the second one is amazing. There's lot's of different variety involving different aspects of the game. Characters, enemies, items, ect. make each run unique and different builds possible. Story wise there isn't much but the game has lore books that can be picked up which are pretty cool. The modding community for this game is also really good. There's gigantic amount of mods that improve the game, make it harder, or add stuff. I genuinely don't have anything to say against it except maybe learning how to play was slightly difficult because there was no tutorial or anything.

Risk of Rain is great and totally worth the full price.

Before ror2 I played ror1 when I was younger. I eventually lost my degenerate ways and got a real life girlfriend. I loved her. She was the center of my world, but she left me. I hung onto my pure way for a bit until another girl, who I had no desire to be with, wanted to be with me. I let go of my pure way of life and i was with her only to indulge ad only once, before I realized that I was slipping back into degeneracy. I was torn between pure or dirty. And all the sudden this game comes along to tempt me like it did years ago. Now I dont know to embrace the degeneracy, or just keep fighting it. Im growing tired, and I know deep down I just want to be fully embraced by another again, but I want to truly care about her, unlike I did for the one-off girl. Unfortunatly, that is growing hard or me as ive lost contact with most of my social circles, and it is proving difficult trying to find new ones. I just feel so confused, unloved, unsure, and unmotivated.

As for the game, its alright I guess

Super addicting and fun. I would recommend sleeping well, eating a healthy meal, wanking one off, and voiding your bowls before playing because once you start, you will look at your watch and realize that 10 hours have gone by in a flash.

Risk of Rain 2 puts you on this knife's edge where the game gets harder and harder the longer you take to do shit. It doesn't scale with you, it scales over time, so you need to try to grow as fast as possible or else the game will just crush you. And forget trying to outrun the scaling, because the difficulty also jumps up every time you move on to the next level.

The game has a flow like nothing else for me. It puts you in the zone and allows you to snowball into an unstoppable murder machine while moving through explosions of colors and particles while the amazing soundtrack keeps driving you forward. And then you suddenly die because you stopped moving for 1 second or because you had the audacity to challenge the final boss when you were ill-prepared.

The variety offered by the different characters, the different item combinations, and the various artifacts makes the game extremely replayable. I love it.

One of the few games that you can a 9 hour run in and still want to hit play again right after.

Be warned that after about 12 stages you have yourself a graphics card stress test more than a game. When you reach this point, keep going.

A very fun rogue-like game. Noticeably different from the first title gameplay-wise, since the game is played in a 3D environment in comparison to the first game's 2D. So, even if you did not like the first game, you might find that you enjoy the second one.

The game can be played alone, or with friends. But playing with friends does not necessarily make the game any easier, since the difficulty scales' based on the amount of players.

Pros:
- Very enjoyable gameplay
- Making item builds is fun and rewarding
- Has a lot of playable characters and areas to explore
- Has co-op
- Lots of achievements

Cons:

- Mercenary: Ethereal achievement can be an actual pain to get

Incredible game overall.
I have all the achievements and I've done almost everything there is to do.
Now, taking that in consideration I don't see myself leaving this game; every single run is different from the other, it doesn't get boring and it's a nice way to talk with a friend/friends while playing since you don't need to be super concentrated.
Amazing experience, really fun and I completely recommend it to everyone!

Risk of Rain 2 is a godamm Ethereal Experience
If you're the type of gamer who plays Hearthstone all day, no friends, and says Poggers, i suggest you run, far away
No, this game is for the pure Gamers, the upper crust, the ones who go fast, smoke grass and eat ass.
RoR2 is a Dungeon run game, where you have to survive a hostile planet, where nearly everything wants to kill you.
The only way to survive is to become a well oiled machine of pure genocide, killing your way to the moon.
The game is based around stages, with you going through multiple areas, all expertly crafted. They can vary from Frozen Bases, to floating fields in the sky, to The Hell dimension of pure suffering.
You can pick from a myriad of Survivors, ranging from a magic welding astronaut, to a Slimy Plant robot. Each survivor has a vastly different Playstyle, from up-close melee with high movement and I-frames, to a Attack Speed based monster that fires devastating primary attacks from any range. Each Character is very polished, and i love to play nearly all of them. And each character has different unlockable Loadouts, to customize your playstyle and fill different roles.
The loot is randomized, which can be annoying some times, but it leads to fun and exciting gameplay when you get a god run with your own luck. Items stack to absurd levels. And factor in that you can find 3d printers, which give you a set item for a random one of your items of the same rarity, You can build your loadout off one incredible item, or, say, 50 attack speed items, to take them to fucking sprinkle town.
This gets even more crazy when you loop the teleporter, playing the other levels over and over again, until you can make the final boss into a stain on his arena.
This game is a drug.
Please help me.

Being a fan of the original series; When this game was initially announced I was both happy, yet skeptical.
I was happy, cause a new version of a game I previously enjoyed would be coming out.
I was skeptical, cause the new version looked and felt like nothing what the original did.

Or so I thought..

Risk of Rain 2 is one of the few examples I can think of that took their original 2D game, and managed to successfully recreate the game on a whole new dimension (3D). The game manages to capture the world, look, and even feel of the previous installment in a surprising manner that I'm still not entirely sure how they managed to pull it off.

I'd say if you're a fan of the previous game, or if the previous game interests you, but were turned off by the pixel graphics or 2D gameplay, then this game won't disappoint.
Every class plays differently and have their own unique traits and tactics, and what class you may have disliked in the first game, you may end up enjoying in this one.

So I'd say give the game a go if you enjoy these types of games.
At the very least, you'll come out of it having slain hordes of various alien creatures or die trying~

amazing game that felt polished and complete in alpha, and is only better in the full release! Many fun and different playstyles possible and tons of fun with friends, A+ game love it :)

A game that I would probably never have looked twice at, if not for recommendations from friends that had already played it. Don't make the same mistake I did - the reviews do reflect just how great the game is!

Gameplay consists of being dropped into a world that is beautiful and crazy. It's slick FPS shooter with roguelike roots that is a blast to play both single player and with up to 4 friends. A multitude of classes, playstyles, abilities and items will make every playthough different and keeps things fresh and fun every time you play. It's fast-paced and unrelenting, but rewards smart decisions, exploration and PEW PEW.

It has a novel graphical look that is surprisingly good and great music alongside it. Things can get very chaotic as you advance through the levels, yet the game always seems to maintain a nice balance and not go over the top to a point where it's a lightshow.

There are plenty of unlockables - in the form of abilities, characters and artefacts. Some harder to figure out than others. Exploration is key here. As you begin to understand the systems in play, you can start to work out a character build that fits the way you play - and luckily there is plenty to chose from. Fancy a bow and arrow huntress with seeking arrows? Got you covered. Fancy a mercenary with a lazer sword that dices enemies at close range? They got you covered. They have engineers, gunners, aliens, robots and more. Sufficed to say, you will find more than one way of playing - and all of them are fun. Where it shines, however, is multiplayer - where teamwork comes together to form a really slick and enjoyable game to play.

Great game with a lot of potential once it is out of early access and has an end boss. Right now, even with different artifacts, a run gets quite repetetive after just a few hours. The game needs an end boss and some kind of overarching mechanic to keep players motivated.

Risk of Rain 2 does much more than only introduce the classic multiplayer roguelike to an extra dimension. It enhances and balances many aspects that felt odd in the first game. Moving, for instance, feels much more natural, and aerial enemies are much better to fight. Whether you become a war tank, a glass cannon, or a racing car out of control, the game's pacing remains incredible.

There are also new unlockables such as character loadouts (which allow for different playstyles on the same character) and skins. Oh, and that's not to mention one of my favorite soundtracks and setting ever. If you like action roguelikes, replayability, and unlockables, give Risk of Rain 2 a try.

Are you into unlimited power buffs, becoming a monster gunner holding 20rocketlulaunchers on your shoulders, travelling at 600km an hour?

This is a game for you and your friends.
Play solo , play with friends, destroy everything over and over again but little differently each time.

The game is so fun and the cartoonish graphics fits perfectly.
Trust me with 500 buffs and this many monsters on screen if the graphics were better the whole spaceX would crush!

Must buy!

This game is still in early access at time of review.

Risk of Rain is a cult classic. It has a very distinct pixel art style, a fantastic electric guitar lead soundtrack and lots of quirky items and alien monsters. Risk of Rain 2 transitions the game to a 3D third-person shooter and looking back at the original, the transformation is amazing. The pixel art sprites have become distinctively animated critters that puke psychedelic particle effects in every direction. The levels have gone from tunnel-like procedural platforms to hand-crafted, themed environments big enough for new players to get lost in. Some of the original characters have not been slated to return yet however it's important to remember that characters that worked well in 2D may not work so well in 3D.

The mechanics of the game are exact but vaguely explained: you'll need to spend some time discovering them or look for a guide or the wiki. In essence it's a bit of a speed running roguelike game. The longer you linger in the levels, the harder the game gets. Each stage has a teleporter that you must charge to reach the next. Activating the teleporter triggers a boss fight but the teleporter only continues to charge while you remain near it and you cannot proceed until the boss is dead. Along the way you get items from chests and vending machines, earning the required cash by killing monsters or pickups. Spend too long and the game will get too hard to continue. Go too quickly and you may find you don't have enough items to fight the monsters.

At the moment there's 5 main maps on a semi-randomised loop. Item and monster spawns are also randomised between hand placed spawn locations. There's a good amount of content to unlock: hundreds of items, a bunch of characters with more on the way, challenges to complete to unlock additional skills for each character and a daily 2 stage time challenge mode. One of the latest additions are unlockable relics which modify the game in extreme ways and can be combined to create a unique experience. This game also works on Steam Link and features coop multiplayer.

This is a great game when you have half an hour to kill and want a high adrenaline blast. It's also good if you're the sort of person that enjoys theorycrafting the perfect build, dodging bullet hells and shooting things for ever increasing digits of damage. It's probably not such a great game for people with slow reflexes or want a calm, contemplative experience with a storyline steeped in meaning.

Honestly, this might just be one of the most enjoyable games I have played in years, definitely the most enjoyable game that I've played this year. The premise is so incredibly simple and for that reason, its so incredibly sweet and captivating.

The game isn't in of itself difficult, but the difficulty increases in the form of stats and the quantity of mobs as time progresses, this is what makes longer runs feel so high-octane and seemingly endless.

You can easily spend several hours of your day doing runs either alone or with a team of up to 4 friends and time seemingly just seeps away right through the palms of your hands. In the first 7 days of owning the game i racked up 62 hours in it, i feel like that could give you a good idea on how enjoyable the game is when you first lay your hands on it.

In a time like this, where most people are sitting at home with nothing to do, this kind of escape really is very special. I would recommend this game twice if i could.

For every player who asked, “How would Risk of Rain look in 3D?”

This sequel is the answer. It has everything that RoR has but more – such as the new characters Artifacer and MUL-T. They also have new items like Lunar coins, new enemies (I.e Beetle Guard) and additional stages like the Newt Alter that takes you to the Bazaar.

Now the visuals are quite minimalistic, with flat 3D colors that makes the environment look more like it was designed using highlighters. However, I see this as a perfect fit to the combat and action as it can get quite chaotic as the level progresses. Any RoR players can attest to this, remembering how much of a clusterf**k it became in the later levels. I’m quite impressed at how well the developers re-designed some enemies from the prequel. The basic Rock Golems to the Greater Wisp and Imps all looks great!

Animations are smooth and fluid through the gameplay in my experience. My only concern is the bug that occurs when spawning in the Bazaar, as I had 1-2 times where my character appeared outside of the spawn point. Plus the occasional enemy or missile chipping through a wall.

As for effects, you’d better believe they exist; especially when the entire map turns red, the grounds starts to rumble and you realize that another player has activated the Teleporter. [spoiler]Oof’[/spoiler]

The audios are there, and just as fantastic as the art.

Since the game is still in Early Access, I’m hoping they’ll bring back some more of the old characters and monsters from RoR. [spoiler]I miss my Bandit boi.[/spoiler]

Additional note for funnies, is the way they name the levels. [strike]I don’t think I’ve ever went past[/strike] The final level is “AHAHAHAHAHA […]” lol (Corrected by commentor). I would recommend this game to new players and old RoR players alike, as Risk of Rain 2 is definitely an upgraded version of the first game.
