Schade ich hatte mich echt gefreut das Spiel zu spielen, aber es startet einfach nicht.
Ich kann es nicht weiter empfehlen.

Ein nettes Spielchen, wenn man auf Rätsel steht.
Man wandert in alter Point n' Click manier durch ein Haus, und bekommt eine Geschichte erzählt, während man Rätsel löst.
Einige sind wirklich schwer zu knacken, und bieten leider nicht viele Anhaltspunkte, man muss wirklich alles selbst lösen. Aus diesem Grund hab ich ab und zu eine Lösung zu rate gezogen. Insgesamt hat mich das Spiel damit 3 Stunden und 30 Minuten gekostet. Ohne Ratgeber wären es vermutlich schon mehr.

Es bietet sehr abwechslungsreiche Rätsel, die sehr unlinear in einem Haus verteilt sind. Das heißt man muss manchmal nach dem Lösen eines Rätsels vom Dachgeschoss wieder in den Keller um danach ein weiteres Rätsel im 1.OG zu machen und so weiter. Es gibt einige Türen, die man als Abkürzungen nutzen kann, damit man sich nicht immer wieder durchs ganze Haus klicken muss. Die viele Klickerei war dennoch etwas nervig, aber das liegt vermutlich daran, dass ich nicht häufig solche Spiele zocke.
Was mir außerdem nicht ganz gefiel, war das merkwürdige Speichersystem. Auch wenn es sich schlussendlich als recht einfach zu bedienen rausstellte, war ich am Anfang etwas verwirrt, was das mit dem Schlüssel jetzt soll.

Im großen und ganzen jedoch ein nettes Spiel. Obwohl meine Rechnung pro Euro kaufpreis eine Stunde Spielzeit zu haben hier nicht ganz aufgeht, und es auch grafisch nicht viel hergibt, kann ich das Spiel durchaus empfehlen.

Ein großes Highlight der Puzzlespiele. Die Rätsel sind abwechslungsreich, haben eine wechselnde Schwierigkeit und verlangen verschiedene Denkweisen. Durch die Verteilung im Haus kann man, falls man nicht weiter kommt, sich einen anderem Safe widmen und dort knobeln. Es gibt ein paar kleine Storyelemente, welche durch Schriftstücke vermittelt werden, um den Safes einen Kontext zu geben und zu motivieren, nicht einfach nur Rätsel zu lösen. Technische Probleme hatte ich auf meinem recht modernen System keine.

Von 'ultimativ' lässt sich bei diesem Spiel leider nicht sprechen. Ich mag Puzzles, Herumprobieren, eine Welt erkunden und dachte dass dieses Spiel garantiert was für mich wäre. Die vielen positiven Reviews taten ein Übriges und ich habe das Spiel gekauft. Leider, leider wurde ich schwer enttäuscht und in vielerlei Hinsicht. Hier die Details dazu und eine Erläuterung, warum ich das Spiel niemals empfehlen würde.

Optik 4/10
Die Grafik könnte besser sein. Optische Einstellungen hat man in den Optionen gar nicht geboten, egal wie gut der Rechner ist, die Grafik bleibt gleich schlecht. Hinzu kommt, dass das Spiel nur den Vollbild-Modus kennt und selbst per Startoptionen festlegen kann man es nicht dazu bewegen, im Fenstermodus zu starten. Da man die Auflösung auch nicht einstellen kann, wirkt es bei einem Breitbild-Monitor irgendwie verzerrt. Auch wenn das Design nicht unbedingt 'unansprechend' ist, wirklich toll ist es auch nicht.

Musik/Sound 2/10
Die Musik an sich ist ganz okay, aber das sog. voice ACTING ist ... wirklich mieserabel. Wenn der Protagonist spricht, klingt es emotionslos und als wenn es eine - zugegebenermaßen gute - Software vorlesen würde. Hinzu kommt, dass man dann nicht mal umstellen kann. Die Optionen bieten keine Änderung der Sprache und somit muss man sich gezwungenermaßen das ganze Spiel hindurch mit dem irgendwie mechanisch anmutenden Klang herumschlagen. Nein danke.

Unterhaltung 1/10
Ich war genervt, gelangweilt, irritiert aber sicherlich nicht gut unterhalten. Jedes mal wenn der Protagonist 'den Mund aufgemacht' hat, hab ich mich über das Voice Acting aufgeregt, die Puzzles sind mehr Versuch und Irrtum als Logik und bei dem ein oder anderen ist es reines Glück, die Lösung schnell zu finden - oder man klickt sich eben dämlich. Die Möglichkeit das Haus zu erkunden beschränkt sich auf 'Raum betreten - zum Safe gehen - Safe genauer untersuchen - zurücktreten - Raum verlassen'. Viel mehr ist nicht möglich, da man sich nicht selbst umsehen und bewegen kann, sondern nur per klick zu nem neuen Frame kommt, wo man dann im Grunde den Kopf etwas bewegen kann. Mich hat es die ganze Zeit über in den Fingern gejuckt, in diese Ecke und hinter jenes Möbelstück zu gehen, aber nope. Darf man nicht.

Zeitaufwand 3/10
Ich habe es zwei Stunden oder so versucht, aber einfach keinen Gefallen daran gefunden, in der Zeit das Erdgeschoss und den Keller geräumt aber ich hatte dann einfach keinen Bock mehr, den ersten Stock anzugehen. Ich denke, das Spiel bietet noch etwas mehr Zeit, aber nicht wirklich ein langes Spielvergnügen. Die meiste Länge kommt eher vom verwirrten herumtippen weil man keinen Hinweis hat, wie sich dies oder jenes Rätsel lösen lassen sollte. Hin und wieder habe ich ehrlich gesagt einen Guide zu Rate gezogen, weil es einfach nur nervig war, dass man überhaupt keinen Plan hat, was man da jetzt eigentlich machen soll und nach langem Klicken immer noch keine Logik ersichtlich wurde.

Wiederspielbarkeit 1/10
Für mich nicht. Ich habe das Spiel nicht einmal beim ersten durchgang durchgespielt, ich habe sicherlich keine Lust, es noch einmal zu spielen, abgesehen davon, dass man beim zweiten Durchgang ja schon alles weiß und einfach durchhopsen kann. Leider bietet das Spielprinzip auch keine Möglichkeiten, weiteres zu entdecken. In den Bewegungen ist man extem eingeschränkt und außer einigen Briefen/tagebuch seiten und kram und den Safes, gibt es nichts, was man anklicken oder erkunden könnte. Das Ding ist es einfach nicht wert, noch ein zweites Mal durchzugehen.

Preis/Leistung 4/10
Wenigstens kostet der zweifelhafte Spaß nicht übermäßig viel, obwohl ich persönlich den vollen Preis von fast 5€ definitiv zu teuer finde. Zum Glück habe ich es im Angebot gekauft, ansonsten hätte ich mich geärgert.

Nein, nein, nein. Ich mag das Spiel nicht. Kann ich nichts dran ändern und es ist wirklich nicht so, dass ich es nicht versucht hätte, mich in die zweifelhafte Logik einzufinden ;) Woher die vielen positiven Reviews kommen ... ich weiß es nicht.

Gesamtwertung

Insgesamt komme ich hier auf 2/10 und somit kann ich das Spiel absolut nicht empfehlen. Sorry.

I loved this game on the Wii as a kid, but they really didn't even try to make this control well for the PC. I still played through it and can't get a refund as a result, but I would highly recommend just getting an emulator if you want to play this game.

If you're planning on buying this game, there is a major caveat that should be mentioned before anything else. This game has a major video bug with newer systems. If you run a modern operating system like Windows 10, you will most likely experience a black screen when loading which will prevent you from playing the game. The good news is that this issue can easily be resolved by copying some older DirectX DLL libraries into the game folder (see the discussion forum for details). The bad news is that even with the fix, the menus still have no text, so you'll have to work through that issue separately. If you're willing to deal with DirectX library and missing menu issues, the game is otherwise completely playable.

The game itself consists of about 20 mini safe puzzles. Many of the puzzles are fairly challenging and the game does not provide many (or sometimes any) clues when solving. Thus, often you're left with some amount of trial and error after reducing the solution to a limited set of values (e.g., you've figured out the four digits needed in a four number combination). The puzzles are all different and interesting and you'll likely need to take out a pencil and paper to solve a few of them.

No major plot or characters. Just a series of voice overs describing some rooms/safes and a few letters / papers to read. The dialog is more of a back story of why you're in a mansion with a bunch of safes than anything else.

The visuals are nice. Statically rendered scenes with only a few objects (safes, letters, etc.) that can be interacted with. The music and sound effects are reasonable, but contribute nothing significant to the game.

Overall, a fairly short game (only 4-5 hours to complete), but it was enjoyable. Given the limited content and lack of replayability, I recommend only purchasing it if it's on sale.

Looks like a nice game when you see the screenshots and read the description.

Be aware this game is not optimized to run in Win10 (and can't be run successfully in compatibility mode),
why it was released on steam lacking being optimized is beyond me.

I can't recommend this game as it basically is unplayable.

Let's start with - it's a game from 2006! So bearing that in mind....

If you like challenges - this is your game! The first challenge is getting it to run... I strongly suggest checking out some of the super helpful support posts from users and downloading the additional .dll files to help it run on Win-10.

As for the puzzles - they are a mixed bag. Some are so fiendishly difficult I ended up needed to look up walkthroughs / hints - the game doesn't have kind of clue/hint system - while others were so stupidly simple, probably to make you think they should be more complicated than they are as a trick!

It's definitely pretty - there's a lot of effort that's been put into the design and it's very much a mid 00's vintage in terms of gameplay. Keeping all that in mind, if you like the puzzles in games, but don't want to faff about with a long story - this is for you. If you want character development and dialogue, nope - go play Baldurs Gate instead ;)

Game doesn't work for me, I launch it the main menu splash screen appears but is all glitched i cant navigate to the settings as the buttons are glitched too & don't have txt if i could get passed the main menu my opinion might have been different i have validated the game so this is likely the same for alot of ppl (windows 10)

IF you can get the game to workthen it is enjoyable. If is of course the operative word. Honestly the hour and change I have on record is mainly due to attempted troubleshooting to fix graphical errors and game crashes.

When I was able to play it was fine, visually it is detailed and clear (as far as the first 2 puzzles anyway). I can't say much about the story line because of the aforementioned issues.

NOTE: This game has MAJOR compatibility issues. You will have to spend 5-10 minutes researching how to make the game run on your system and might need to experiment with some basic settings to get things working. Given that the game is very good, I would assumer that is the root of most of the negative reviews it is getting. On to the review:

This is an excellent game, with very well designed puzzles that are mostly well done and very interesting. Puzzle designs are fair and logical, some require careful observation, but all are solveable without a guide and have easy to find clues (no pixel hunting whatsoever in this game.) There are quite a few tropey 'mystery room game' puzzles, like aligning lights, sliding blocks, and other assorted cliches of the genre, but these are balanced by a fair number of thoughtful and well designed observational puzzles that are by and large, very engaging and surprising.

I was able to complete the game without any guide, barring one moment of weakness. I regret doing so, because the puzzle was very cool and I would have figured it out eventually for sure. So I recommend that you play the game without any guides. This game is very doable that way.

Unfortunately, it is not maintained by the developer, and has bad compatibility, so you will have to spend about 5-10 minutes reading tutorials on the forum to get it working, it also is locked to 1024x768 resolution. Despite its many flaws, I recommend this title highly.

For casual players, I cannot recommend Safecracker TUPA because I do not believe the majority of them will have a computer so outdated as to be able to play it, or the inclination to figure out how to get it to work on a modern computer.

However, for slightly more advanced players, I do recommend it because it is more challenging than most casual games. Just keep in mind the first puzzle you will encounter with this game is getting it to work on your PC. Fortunately, the discussions forum provides the answer. I am not sure why, if the publisher is still making money off of this, they couldn't spend an afternoon integrating the forum fix into the download.

Once you actually get into the game, you may face the unintended challenge of not vomiting from motion sickness. I had to play it in Window mode to control the nausea. I am not sure why you need a full 3D view of each room, since there was only one challenge that required looking at the environment. The graphics are pleasant, higher end for the age it was made, but I do not understand the effort when the interaction with the environment is so minimal.

The puzzles are entertaining, but I wonder if part of the challenge is simply due to the lack of explanation that what you're looking at is actually a puzzle. Fairly early on, I spent time trying to figure out a keypad from what I thought were story clues, only to find out later the combination was behind another puzzle. Toward the very end of the game, I assumed another keypad must not be a puzzle based on earlier experience, and ended up searching the manor again top to bottom for something I missed. Finding nothing, I played around with the keypad and discovered this time it was a puzzle.

Hmm ... why am I recommending this again to anyone? Oh yeah ... because it is more challenging than most casual games ... though perhaps not in the way the developers intended. Also, it offers an interesting story choice at the end which is a nice touch.

To even get this game to run, you have to disable your graphics card and mess around with the config and .ini files. Shouldn't be necessary to get a game to run, even through compatability mode, by disabling basic parts of your computer to even see the game beyond a black screen and ear-decimating loud music.

Game requires altering files, disabling my GPU, compatibility mode, and adding external DLL's from another online kit just to bring up the initial menu. Still doesn't give me the text in the menu. 37 minutes played? 37 minutes trying to get into the game.

From further reading online, avoid all games by this dev.

In order for this game to work on modern computers, you need WINE libraries:

Safecracker: The Ultimate Puzzle Adventure is an interesting puzzle game, much like The Room or other similiar room-based puzzle games.

You are to find the will of a dead oil magnate who had a thing for safes and puzzles. Eventually you do find it and when you do, there's a choice to make.

For 2006, the game looks quite okay. It got the classic first person view point and click-style, similiar to other games developed by Kheops Studio.

It's not the most fun game but if you enjoy puzzles, go ahead and knock yourself out for around 2 hours!

I played the first safecracker game years ago and i enjoyed it. When i saw this game years later on steam, i jumped to buy it, but only to find problems with the visuals flickering and mouse cursor dissappearing. When i bought it, i had Windows 8.1 and i'm using Windows 10 now. I have tried various solutions but to no avail, from windows compatible to steam -force-d3d9/d3d10, to editing the gamefiles. Came across someone who recommended to download a wined3d 3.0 staging, and place three files d3d9.dll, libwine.dll & wined3d.dll into the game folder, to my surprise, the game visuals worked perfect.

So i end up playing this game, finished it and enjoyed it. Can i recommend it, yes, but if you played the first one/previous one then you can expect the same puzzles. The only downside for me was that i battled so long to sort out the visuals and something so simple, sorted my visuals out.

Doesn't properly work on Win10. You can get it to run using Wine D3D version 3.0, but you'll be playing at 8 fps or less.

Loved this game back in the day, but it's unplayable in Windows 10. Only workaround was to uninstall my video card in windows settings, otherwise menus and cursors will not display correctly.

A lot of other reviews are mentioning problems running the game on some systems, so I'd like to say first that the game ran perfectly in Linux using Proton with no extra modifications.

As for the game itself, it was a nice little puzzle game with some pretty challenging puzzles. Definitely worth it (if your system can run it).

Played this game many years ago, instlalled againg now and enjoyed the 5 hours it took me to play it through. Some of the puzzles were easy, but some took me quite some time :).

Unplayable. Shows a black screen right after the intro logos. Even if you fix that by manually disabling AA in the graphics driver, the game still flickers and is missing half of its UI elements.

Game launches, but only shows the 'version' in the lower left hand corner. (V1.01).
I've found some tweaks for this, but still won't run on Windows 10.
If a game is going to be sold as working on the system, it should work on the system.
Everything I've read says I should like this game. But it's useless if I can't play it.
At ~$5, it's a waste of money right now. I think I got it in a package-deal so I paid about $1 or less. If I'd known that I wouldn't be able to play it, I'd have picked a different game for the package.

If anybody else had trouble to start up this game like me then here is what i did to fix it.

1) If steam remains stuck in preparing to launch. Make sure the game is installed on the same hard drive as steam. Usually the C drive.

2) If the game flickers. Go to your steamapps/common folder then safecracker2. In config AND STEAM_config files change bFullScreen=1 TO bFullScreen=0 and save.

3) I also had the game freeze on a black screen. To resolve this in my case i went to Nvidia control panel, manage 3d settings. Safecracker2 then manually turn Antialiasing mode to off. That solved all my issues and yes it was worth it.

I love games that put your brain to the test and Safecracker certainly did that!
The puzzles were varied enough to keep the whole experience interesting. It was nice having a subtle story behind it too, as it gave it more meaning. I would recommend this game to those who enjoy solving puzzles and feel rewarded when they finally crack a safe.

Took around 6 hours to complete and i found having a pen and paper handy helped :)
