Klare Kaufempfehlung!

Shadow Man was always a fantastic game and with this Remaster you get the complete package!

Restored levels, bugfixes and reworked sounds for less annoying weapon sounds, bossfights and quality of life improvements. This game is worth every penny and if you never played this gem now is the time.

If you plan to get all the achievements in one go I highly advise to save every 2 seconds and reload if you die once. Otherwise you need to get through this game a second time which might take some time.

Instantkauf!

Fab game, fantastic world creation, crazy levels of complexity, it gives you virtually nothing in the way help, seemingly endless searching only to realise you missed a vital lock or item, saves are scarce and death punished by long re-treads. Sort of game that usually frustrates the life out of me, but its a game that sucks you in, it has been vastly improved by the remaster. Its years since I first played this, I can't recall how much time I spent on it first time round, many many hours. I expect to be here a loooong time this go round. Can't say I won't be hitting the online guides!

22 years ago we got Nintendo 64 for Christmas. We got Banjo Kazooie with the console and my big brother begged my mom for Shadow Man! The game had a huge impact on me and my 14 year old mind back then lol. It gave me nightmares. It pulled me in. It consumed me. I loved it! But we didn't have a rumble pak to save our game so every time we had to start from beginning. 22 years later i finally beat the game with this amazing remastered version! Aside Resident Evil 2 this is my all time favorite game! It's eerie it's dark it's challenging! The best soundtrack hands down! It pulls you in and seduces you! Thank you for taking the time to remaster this masterpiece of a game! People pls buy it and play it! You wont be disappointed! Bravo Nightdive for polishing this magnificent game! Many greetings!

***Shadowman Review***
Shadowman is a combination of a 3D platformer, metroidvania, and a Collect-A-Thon. These elements are combined with a horror undertone making it a very unique game. There are environments reminiscent of Silent Hill's Otherworld, enemies explode in a bloody mist with gibs flying everywhere, and some of the music include screams and sounds of flesh being ripped apart... what more can you ask for!

***Remaster Review***
Excellent remaster by Nightdive Studios. The HD textures and new dynamic lighting are a big step up from the original game while keeping the original's game mood intact. With new levels, new enemies, remastered/additional music, and improved controls this is the definitive way to play the game!

Ignore my playtime. This is the second time I've bought this game, first on GOG. The fact that I wanted to purchase this twice for the same platform to support the release should show my opinion pretty clearly.

If you are remotely interested in 3D Collectathon platformers, in particular some of the early forefathers of the genre who have held up well, give Shadow Man a shot. If you are interested in Metroidvanias with levels that are large and full of shortcuts and areas that lead back to former areas of the level like a proto-dark souls, check it out. The big caveat is that I can say for certain some people will definitely not like it. Despite the polish brought on by the remaster, fundamentally, parts of the game are very old-school. There is no in game map and the levels are massive and can be confusing, due in part to the original levels having limited geometry and textures. While I don't mind it, I know quite a few people hate back tracking, which is a large part of exploration in this game. The combat can be tedious as the game goes on...

And yet, the game is more than the sum of its parts. Like I said, I cannot guarantee you will love it or even like it, but the game has so much creativity and thoughtful design, especially for an early 3D metroidvania platformer that was designed to work with the N64 and PSX. Finding new upgrades feels exciting. Gather Dark Souls, the games main collectible, is exciting. For as low poly and chunky as the game is, it bleeds an incredibly unique and haunting atmosphere unlike any game I can think of. The voice acting is really good and all the characters, while not being super deep or complex, feel like they have a personality that distinguishes them from the rest, especially considering most of the cast was voiced by the devs themselves. The writing is, again, not super deep or complex, but it has a lot of charm with its late 90s industrial edge. The music and audio is often talked about when Shadow Man is brought up, and for good reason. Yes, it is flawed and archaic in some ways that some will be unable to get past, but I assure you, this game has kept up its small, be devout cult following for over 20 years for a good reason.

As for the remaster, this is, bar none, the absolute best remaster I have ever played. The game looks nice with its new lighting system, and the higher res textures add quite a bit of atmosphere to the game, and the customization is high. However, the updates are more than just graphical. The control scheme has been revamped (the original was tank controls, which the player can use if they so choose) to a more modern style, reminiscent of FPS games. A weapon wheel removes tedium from combat. Three levels that were cut from the original release have been restored and designed partially from the ground up, and these are three massive levels. On top of that, and my personal favorite, are the new secrets that were added to the game that became a community scavenger hunt across the game. It also appears more updates are on the horizon as well. Nightdive have also been very receptive to fan feedback and made changes accordingly. Seriously, this is the most complete and thorough remaster I have ever seen.

Again, if this looks even remotely interesting to you and you are willing to put up with its more dated aspects, I highly encourage you to try it and, even if you don't enjoy it, you can at least appreciate it for what it sets out to do. For 20 bucks, you can't beat it, especially for the sheer quality of the remaster that put remasters from AAA game studios to shame.

Oh man, this is a special one!

I remember back in 1999/2000ish, I bought this game for Playstation and the first and second levels are burned in my memory. I made it till Asylum: Gateway and that's it, haven't played it since then. I was a kid at the time, and probably got stuck and didn't know what to do next. Looking at the PS footage today, I'm in shock how bad it looks and runs, but back then I didn't knew any better, it worked great in my head! PS port is notorious for being terrible. But recently I've finally decided to buy this remaster and see it in its full glory!

Lets start with positives:

- Nightdive did a fantastic job with remaster. Saw some comparisons to other versions, and it's nuts how great it looks, while keeping the same feel and gameplay of OG version. They even added a bunch of cut content.
- Atmosphere of the game is the main selling point for me. This game is so weird and dark, with some sick moments. It really is unique gem and they don't make them like this anymore.
- Varied levels and level design in general.
- Soundtrack (for the most part), especially the main them and Dead Side theme. Man, nostalgia was hitting me like a truck so hard when I heard the DS theme. You just know this came out in the 90's when you hear it, in a good way.
- It's a long game, took me almost 15 hours to 100%, but even doing normally it will take you a long time.
- Platforming is actually decent, you would expect from this time period it would be terrible, but it's not actually.
- Story is interesting, at least all the villains and their backstories.

Now for some issues:

- Gameplay. You have a decent chunk of arsenal, but gameplay is sooooooo boring, it's literally just avoid attacks and shoot. You can even dual wield weapons to literally melt your enemies in seconds.
- Game is super easy, barely a challenge. Few moments here and there when you end up with 5+ enemies in the same room.
- There's no any marker or map in game, and most of the levels are huge and designed like mazes. You will get lost. A lot! Prepare your nerves for it, new generation of players might lose it a few times, especially since it's a backtracking game, you will do that a lot to progress through missions.
- Soundtrack. Like I've said it's mostly good, but there are some tracks that, while work on first few listens, get repetitive and boring really fast (the Playrooms level where you hear kids laughing, screaming and tooth drills sounds on repeat) and main reason for that is because you will get lost a lot and spend a lot of time on the same levels.
- Some of the cutscenes are super janky.
- It ends kinda rushed, wish it would show a scene or two more of the aftermath.

When I started this remaster, nostalgia was really hitting me hard, haven't like this in a while. I felt so old and to this day, I think about this game and that innocent time period when I first played it. I'm glad I finally completed and experienced the full game, and while it has some issues, it's still a unique and great gem that's worth checking out.

I was a big fan of Shadowman on the Dreamcast (I loved the game's dark, twisted atmosphere), so I can't help but recommend this remaster to anyone who enjoys non-linear, action-adventure games, providing you can look past the dated visuals.

The folks at Nightdive deserve to be commended for not only recreating the original game (with all the cut content no less), but also for going out of their way to improve upon it in every way, especially in the gameplay department. You can tell this was a passion project for them. I can't wait to see their work on Exhumed.

I Master piece From My Childhood. Made By the Same developer's As Turok
Now Remastered With new content and improved graphic's and music

I would Describe as Ocarina of time's darker cousin As You had a Back in forth mechanic With the Deadside Liveside Paralled with using the master sword back and forth through Time in OOT

As you go through level's you will obtain Items and power up's That will allow you to access new area's you originally could not

I Would Recommend If you like Older action adventure/Platformer and horror game's

This Game is still getting New content with the seraph queen boss to be added later along with the dead worm, and console port's WIll ome out later on

Along With Whisper's of The Sequel 2nd Coming With the Source Code Been Found (During the originals remaster Interestingly Enough ) and Having cut Content Newly Uncovered for them to Put in the game As a selling point and Beta Build's Surface For the Original Mechanic's Cutscene's and model's and enemy's that were also cut

I have gotten Every trophy in the game So I could Be a bit Biased as a fan saying this but If you want a objective Opinion Of the game and what it entails Without Spoiling It

Try Looking For the Old Original Shadow man GOG demo Released by Akklaim For the (1999 Version The Old PC Port) Online Somewhere (which you might need to run in compatibilty mode as it might not be compatible with windows 10 natively )
It was Free And Attached to the Old Version
It's Just the original Is not available anymore Since they have the remaster now which is the same game but better with the new content So they took it down. (Therefore the demo is no longer on GOG it's self

I'm a big fan of this game back from my Playstation and N64 days, and I've gone through the older PC version probably dozens of times. It's one of my favorite action platformers of all time. Honestly I'd have been happy if they'd just upped the textures and resolution and called it a day - but the amount of care that went into this remaster really shows. It's gorgeous, and I'm so happy to be able to play through the levels and minibosses that were meant to be in the original game but were cut for time reasons. It really fleshes out all of the murderers' stories. The new areas feel like they've always been there and the music matches the mood perfectly. I've bought other Night Dive remasters (most recently Doom 64) and they're all excellent. Highly recommend!

A great remaster, but maybe not the best choice of game. Technically everything is done for modern systems to run the game flawlessly and some extras were added.

I played through the original (but gave up near the end, enemies are bullet sponges and it got boring).

And here comes my personal point that this game was not the best choice to remaster. The game is confusing, has alot of backtracking, platforming sections and one hit death traps. You will get lost alot in the levels which are a maze and you have to revisit them at least once, probably more(once you get more abilities). It was a classic back then, but that was another ERA of video games.

Would I recommend this? For new players with alot of free time : YES. For people who already completed the original , there is not much need to replay the game again.

Maybe Soul Reaver would have been a better choice for a remaster, and I hope to see it in the future.

OK, to preface, I got this bad boy when it came out on the Dreamcast, so it was a very early version. I must have been 11 or 12, and was immediately entranced to the point where I sought out the comic books. I am a Shadowman fan.

Now, I don't have much time in the game- I've beaten it on the Dreamcast before- but I can tell you without a doubt this is the definitive version. The quality jump is immediately noticeable in the sound department, noticeably Shadowman's gun. It doesn't have that piercing screech sound every time you fire it, but it still has the voodoo humming at the end which is a bit sharp. This already makes the game 100% better. The VA has been cleaned, there's new VA content restored for Shadowman that had been cut, and the sound is crisp and not crunchy-compressed like the old PC version (or the Dreamcast version, good lord.) The remastered/uncompressed music sounds FANTASTIC, too. The HD textures make it look much better, but you can only do so much to a game like this- does it look chunky? Yeah, it's a 22 year old game- give it a break- but at the same time, its story, world building, and atmosphere can't be denied. I can't wait to get to the cut content that's been restored! You've made a (possibly very disturbed) 12 year old me very happy. Thank you so much for bringing this part of my childhood back in top form.

A masterpiece. It perfectly captures the atmosphere of the original game as it was intended, and uses visual effects to make it even darker than it was before. Reliving this game through the remaster has been a real blessing - I wish they'd do it with more of my childhood games.

Wonderful atmosphere and exploration based gameplay with a surprisingly dark and intriguing storyline, bolstered by the fact that this game is over twenty years old.

Though dated, this remaster makes it much more accessible and one can easily overlook its few and small flaws. Well worth a playthrough.

Deeply deeply flaw gem. Love the mood, music and what little writing ties the game together. Louisiana Voodoo is so great, and I'm sad that Swamp Thing and Constantine are the only other major quality works I can think of that even use these themes and ideas. I'm a sucker for good map design and just general big interesting spaces that are satisfying to discover/explore and find interesting things in. The maps in this are so close to that sweet spot of challenging to navigate, but never frustrating. The game originally came with a map of the world, which is absolutely essential to be able to play the game.

Sadly the actual moment to moment exploration and combat is often extremely dreary. Dreary a pretty significant chunk of the time. Like oh man this game is so close but just keeps missing the mark dreary.

It's just a little too easy to get turned around and lost as well. My spacial skills are better than most, so if getting lost is a struggle for me sometimes, for most people finding pathways around is just going to be too hard. If making video games wasn't so damned hard, this is the game i'd most want to make a spiritual sequel to.

This is an awesome old school platformer horror game. I loved it. It's a really cool concept. It's sorta Metroidvania-like with the map being interconnected with teleport pathways and souls being locked off until you unlock new powers. But there is no map so you're gonna have to memorize locations and look up a guide.

A few quick tips
-Your goal is to collect as many dark souls as possible to level up so you can go to new levels and get new weapons and abilities.
-You can interact with things that don't look interactable. Shadow gates have a weird T shaped thing in front you have to interact to attempt to open. There are switches as big as signs but they aren't signs, so just interact with them. There are some weird little altars with a little flame on them that you can stab with the pointy sword to teleport, fire tapestry things you can only burn with a fireball claw weapon, and other more obvious things.
-You cant kill any of the 5 villains until you eclipse the world by collecting 3 pieces which requires Shadow Level 7 or 8. So don't really bother with their levels because you need shadow powers in the real world to finish them off. But once you are strong enough, you have to find and use the retractors on the corpses in the Cathedral to teleport to the bosses levels.
-Hit F5 to quick save before any jumps near lava so you can quickly reload and try again if you mess up. Otherwise you can instantly die and teleport back to a checkpoint and have to run through half the level again.
-You cannot complete the Dark Engine level until you kill the 5 and take their teleporters back to the Engine and deactivate pistons. So don't get stuck there confused like I did. You unlock the level half way through the game but its actually the last level.

Easter eggs
-Make sure to go behind the dj booth on the desert boss level.
-Make sure to smash the liveside graveyard stone tablet once you get the vase.

Shadow Man is an action-adventure game from 1999 developed by Acclaim.
It was available on PC, N64, Playstation and Dreamcast.
This version is a remaster by Nightdive.
You are Michael LeRoi, the Shadow Man, and you have to save the world.
The remaster includes gameplay improvements, graphic and audio updates and previously cut content.
I would recommend this game for people who are on a seek for nostalgia and have loved the game back in 1999. People who have never played the original before may think that it is totally dated, especially in terms of the graphics.

Sounds 7/10
Graphics 5/10
Gameplay 8/10
Atmosphere 10/10

i feel bad doing this because nightdive has done nothing wrong - this is a very good port of a very frustrating game. hope you enjoy mazes and shooting each enemy for a full minute. the first few levels were pretty damn cool, until it devolves into featureless mazes and bullet sponges!

Nostalgia <3
this game was made in times where innovations and creativity have been the essence of an art work like this video game.
That atmosphere is qunique... the whole game is a one of its kind.

Another solid N64 title brought over to Steam.

This is a nice remaster and an acceptable upgrade to the other version.

Still holds up well today and the challenge is something modern games don't have anymore.

Love the visuals, the lore and the characters.

This is def worth getting.

Nightdive's efforts at restoring and polishing a very old game indeed (coupled with Tim Haywood's vastly underrated talents) have really made this forgotten gem shine! With the original so beloved for its haunting story, setting and soundscape I was wary of any fiddling by a third party, but needless to say these fears were groundless and with the few tweaks after release that were needed this version is now a damn fine piece of work.

Game developers and writers take note from the old classics! When your goal is to cleverly evoke an atmosphere rather than crudely provoke an emotion, your games will last the test of time as well as this series has!

As a huge fan of the original game I can say that this remaster is a perfect example on how a game should be presented to a modern audience. The original 1999 Shadow Man did not age very well graphically or with it's game play however, it did have an immense amount of charm to it due to it's great soundtrack and the lore of the world it is set in. Shadow Man Remastered fixes all of the flaws of the original without changing what the game is. The world is still a maze to navigate, however the controls are improved with full game pad support included multiple joysticks (something the original lacked) and the graphics, while still dated, look amazing. If you are a fan of the macabre or you played the original this game is amazing and at $20 the price can't be beat. The original game was 10s of hours long with most 100% playthroughs taking up to 60 hours. The remaster adds content that was cut from the original, although I don't know how substantial it is, it definitely could have added a few more hours of game play.
