Ich kann das Spiel nur weiter empfehlen, wenn man sich ein bisschen beruhigen will. Die Graphik ist ganz nice und das Spiel macht von der Story her sehr viel Spaß

i have 500 hours off of steam, this game is a corpse of what it once was, but it really was a great experience. If you're lucky you could probably find someone to play with. Soundtrack still slaps though

If you are going to play this game either way (which you should try it), I highly recommend buying orb's of alchemy via energy. (A special game currency that is bought with crowns)

The cost of energy as of now is 5,500 crowns on average.

Spiral Knights means a lot to me, however I must give my honest opinion on it.
This game is a master-piece, yet it's flawed due to it's low player count.

Spiral knights is a heavy reliant multiplayer game at it's core.
However this doesn't exactly mean it can't be enjoyed alone, it very much is enjoyable alone.
But it still is advised to play with others/friends.

It's a dungeon-crawler type game where you earn materials for crafting, Game currencies, items that improve combat , learn recipes and upgrade your gear.
Though choice's are limited in terms of weapons every one has a difference, either damage or bonuses, buffs or DE-buffs , light or charged.

The three weapons you can choose are guns,bombs and swords.
Equip trinkets that improve survive-ability!
Upgrade your gear and defeat tremendous foe's!

However, Gray Havens for lords sake! Please update this game!
There's not been an meaningful update for age's!

I'd strongly recommend playing this game if you have a friend(s) to play with as it's more enjoyable with others.

Spiral Knights is a great game. I enjoyed my time going through The Spiral time and time again, facing interesting levels, even if it does get grindy. The game has expensive microtransactions, but honestly I found myself having fun with the gameplay and ignoring progression.

I can't recommend it. The game is dead. Few players are online. The game doesn't receive meaningful updates.

The microtransactions are poorly implemented and get in the way of normal gameplay. A real tragedy considering how fun the game can be at its best.

This game hasn't had a meaningful update in years. The current owners, Grey Havens, are using this game as a money printer and already have funds to keep servers up for another year by the same whales who drop in hundreds of dollars every sale. The whales and the veterans are why the game still hasn't died when it should have long ago. Do not play this game if you are looking for a game whose current owners respect the community

This game is a lie
For 7 years, this game been kept on life support by people that do not care for game or players
In 7 years we got 3 small updates, 3 of the same events happening all over again without any real changes, the only thing we got is new skin boxes, again and again and again and nothing else.
People that spent literal years here now can't let go the game that no longer exist and barely 200 players a day is what's left here.
In its core, its still the same game, with same good levels and enemies or well made missions. But trying to reach anything will eventually be endless grind of either same uninteresting level or random bull****, like hopes of getting 1 in 300 drop.
Don't play this game, there is no hope and there is no core worth your time exploring. The only worthy thing left here is community.

Game was bought out by a company that just wants to hold the license and do nothing with it, milking the dwindling community with monthly rereleases of old lootbox content from years ago.

It's enjoyable for a little while but the lack of new content and the game essentially being on life support makes it hard for me to genuinely recommend it to a new player.

This game was amazing.. 7 years ago. My hours on steam do not reflect the thousands of hours I put into the game back when it had a standalone launcher. It is sad to admit that the genre of MMORPG's is dying, and all these amazing games that had so much potential were/are run by horribly greedy cashcow companies who have no passion for the gaming world, and only care about making money. If you want a nostalgic game that will blow your mind, enjoy Spiral Knights as a single player game, but all the community aspect of this game is just gone. It breaks my heart to leave a negative review, but i can't in good faith say yes to this game with the current state of things. As a nearly 30 year old man, I look back fondly on the history of MMOs and look to the future with hopefulness that something new and exciting will come out so I stop going back to old games so that i can feel something again <3

Spiral Knights is a great game that countless hours can be spent on with ease, the game-play is entertaining and never ending for those who like to collect things. Countless items can be collected and that is what hooks a lot of long term players, the sheer amount of weapons, armor, and cosmetics is staggering and endless. Spiral Knights also has very vibrant and helpful community that sets it apart from quite a few, with a variety of user made guilds to collaborate with other players. It's not all that uncommon to hear negative comments about the games continuation which is understandable given the huge potential it has, keep in mind this game doesn't receive large content like it did in its prime, the work done on it now is mainly maintenance. A fantastic artstyle and excellent soundtrack belies a pileup of bad decisions and squandered promise. This game was nice in its prime, but the developers fostered an actively toxic relationship with their playerbase near the tail end of development and now the sole remaining executive refuses to arrange even the most basic of programming cleanup while milking whales effortlessly - despite numerous people offering to do it for them for free. Several aspects of the game have remained unfinished or buggy for years despite inconsistencies or mistakes being public knowledge.

I can't recommend spending a dime on it or subsidizing the people who are hopelessly addicted to gambling. The money stopped going to the right people over seven years ago in 2014. You can reasonably access most of the game up to Tier 2 when playing completely f2p with no interaction with the freemium currency market, but the game only really picks up in Tier 3, so unless you're desperate for a game in this style of play or already have a friend that was around in its heyday that can help you get up to speed, don't bother.

...when I was young...

It was 2014. My friend tells me about that game and a hat that I will get for playing.
So we tried the game out and... there is something special about it.
Here, take a look:
+ Great art style. Just love it. Such simplicity and colorfulness really suits the game.
+ Level design. I really love how devs placed all the many things together and because of that the game's levels look like a whole and clean place.
+ Great music. Like the game's art style, the music is simply gorgeous. You will never get tired by variety of chill music.
+ Gremlins. Just look at that fuzzy bastards.

So after seven years of playing this game a lot and really enjoyed both the game and myself too I can tell...

Nowadays, it's totally unplayable.
You'll barely find any ppl who're willing to play together. Basically, most of the time you'll play alone. Some say this is not really a that big of the deal, but just watch how ppl spend hundreds of hours just getting 5* set and rethink all of that. Do you really want to do all the grind alone? For what purpose?
There more: for a MMO which main ideas: companionship and social relationship, in fact are lacking... I can't imagine how much is that isn't a mostly crucial con of the game.
The game once was great with the great community, which is gone.

There is no gameplay, no backstory, no content itself or ppl to play with. Go look at wiki if you interested in story. Thank me later.

It's time to save good memories and move forward. For the best.

Amazing, is everything I asked for, rpg elements, players to talk and even Auctions! And I can't believe how cool all the weapons are. The only con is the grinding(jesus christ), but its fun grinding with people.

This game is great if you have at least 1 friend to play with. I cannot find any people to match-make levels with otherwise. It seems like not many people play like the good old days. But the game is still fun and chill but it would be better if it was easier to find players to do levels with.

Another free game which hasn't been updated in a long time so it suffers from crashing. Its not a bad game, but I wouldn't recommend it in its current state. Its also a grind to get anywhere in the game, so expect a lot of hours trying to get orbs of alchemy, or spend your money to advance quickly just like most free games.

its very much abandonware at this point, if you are planning to return to spiral knights out of nostalgia, its better leaving it as nostalgia

Sorry but while I love the art and the game genre and style, it gets very repetitive, and also it's very easy to get confused with controls, there's also a mission that I could never get past, where the boss keeps being invulnerable no matter what I do, but that's more on the personal level... I feel like it had and has a lot of potential but it's all being misused. Wish there was just... more to it.

Spiral Knights is old (10 yrs) and is relatively dead (https://steamcharts.com/app/99900) but it's a pretty decent game if you have friends to play it with, or if you join a guild and play with them; since you will rarely find anyone using the matchmaking system.

The game is free, and doesn't hit you with a pay2win barrier (though the game is pay2skip). You might enjoy it if you like dungeon crawlers and the game's art-style. It also has a lovely soundtrack. The gameplay loop is fun and is made not too repetitive due to good enemy and level designs. Spiral Knights is a good game, and though you might get more out of newer dungeon crawlers, give this one a try; it has it's charm.

A favourite childhood game that never changed in my eyes.

Goofy, cute, yet pretty epic, - Spiral Knights is a really special game that a broad range of people could easily master and still get their butts kicked. It can get grindy in terms of getting more than one full set of equipment in one tier, but, at the end of the day, with each time that you re-run a level, you always learn something new, and the special weapons feel rewarding to acquire.

Make it a full experience with a 4-player lobby of friends on voice chat.

It offers:

A full and seamless co-op-oriented experience past the tutorial level;
No gameplay paywalls;
Incredibly well-designed aesthetics that resemble what's basically the usual family-friendly console party game model we're used to, like the Nintendo titles;
Original soundtrack that you'll never get tired of listening to;
Straightforward gameplay, no rocket science, accompanied by a fair challenge;
Co-op puzzles that may teach the players patience and coordination;
A neat little lore that you don't even necessarily need to pay attention to in order to enjoy the game;
Quality-of-Life mechanics like being able to thaw your frozen teammates by hitting them or charging with your shield to stun everything in the way if someone is swarmed or you run into a tough enemy;
Generous in-game rewards for your efforts in gameplay.
Subtle tutorials that hint to beating the boss levels.

Revisiting it yet another time since 2011 and 20(19?), I still feel pure joy from playing it. Truly, a blessing from the dev that it's still alive.

Devs have made the game in a way that will try to force money out of you and waste your time. One example being forging (upgrading your weapons) has a percentage chance of actually happening, so you could spend 2-3 hours (even more for later items) grinding just to upgrade one item for it to fail on you and give you literally nothing. (percentages go from around 30-20% first tier, 80-60% second tier and 100% third tier) So if u want to play it safe you have to pay 3 times the amount of the minimum resources to make sure you get the upgrade. Don't worry though there is a solution you can buy the resources for real money!

Another example being alchemy orbs which are required to craft higher tier items at the start they are very easy to come by early, but late game you will be spending many many hours just to farm enough of them. You only need 3 per craft, sounds like not many right? nah that's actually a very long grind for tier 4-5 items. You will need to have a full set of amour at the tier above to have access to more easy ways to get them rather then just running the same thing over and over again and that's assuming you can get through without dying otherwise you will be spending your crowns/ energy on reviving yourself. Don't worry there's a solution for this as well though, open that wallet up baby! you can buy these too!

Game becomes pay to play and borderline unplayable in the late game for people who are playing from oce/ asia as there is only USA and Europe server, the lag will play a big part in the game and you will get used to being hit by things that are no where near you on your screen. Just hope their servers don't lag in the middle of doing a hard mission otherwise you will be guaranteed failure/ have to use all your sparks (revives). Revives (sparks) cost real money and if you die mid mission you will get no rewards.

Overall it's a decent game with average game play but it seems abandoned with no plans for future content and just a general lack of any care for the consumer and outright greed.
Community in the game seems to be pretty lacking as most players will just stand in the auction house area not speaking publicly at all with exception of a few strange people saying weird things. Forums have generally unhelpful people replying to people asking good questions for new players, with things completely unrelated to their question.
I'd say stick to another free to play MMO there are plenty out there much better than Spiral Knights.

TLDR: Play a different MMO

There are loads of free-to-play MMOs around, but Spiral Knights offered something new.

Simple but engaging combat made the gameplay of this game very easy to understand, and what's not explained you'd pick up quickly.

Sadly the game has died down for the lack of game updates and the playerbase leaving cause of it.

game is in a vegetative state where it's only used as a money printer by the company running it
not even for its 10 year anniversary have they put in any effort in creating something fun for their players

instead, they take action against influential community members that just want to make the game better by literally doing their job for them and then censoring the lashback on the forums and ingame
that means the community bug fixes and quality of life changes that have been keeping their game exciting for 1.5 years now have taken a massive hit, and the community has suffered as many people have lost the motivation to play

and that's the worst, because the community was the only thing keeping such players and also myself invested into the game

would heavily advise against playing

Instead of putting effort into the 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY of this game, Grey Havens has decided to ban and DMCA perhaps the most important member of this community Turbillion. He is responsible for helping to fix some of the most game breaking bugs, even sending Grey Havens instructions how to fix their own game.

He is just one example of a larger problem. The community for this game deserves better and if you still play this game and spend money I highly think you should uninstall right now. This game is a sinking ship, get out while you still can.

Have you ever heard the tragedy, of Darth Lucas, the unofficial Developer.
I thought not, it's not a story Grey Havens would tell you, it's The Arcade legend.
Lucas was so powerful and so wise, that he could use the power of Knight Launcher and UCP... to make the game feel more playable. He had such knowledge of the game code that he could even make unofficial updates for the game. He became so powerful, that the only thing he feared was GH deleting UCP, which eventually of course, they did. Unfortunately, he agreed to GH about deleting UCP, then GH banned his account. It's Ironic, he could make the game way more fun, but not a company.

All credits and respects to the very hardworking team of Knight Launcher who worked to fix this games many problems for free but got shutdown by a horrible corporation.

Everything that worked about this game doesn't work anymore. Especially when the developer/publisher completely gave up on this game. Here's what you do in this game: Grind/pay. It's either you die grinding or you sell your soul out for nothing. Everything is overpriced, even reviving. Don't bother playing you'll end up mad trying to get better weapons without paying actual money, trust me. It used to be great, it used to be so fun when you made a new character and just breezed through progression but it's an mmo rpg so naturally there's a stop to the fun. Even if you do enjoy these types of games, rather invest time in one where the developers didn't abandon their game.

This game is Free To Play on Steam and is great for all ages.

It's a massively multiplayer game so you can join a party and crawl and fight your way through dungeon levels with friends. Or grin and bear it and take on the bosses alone, if you choose.

This game has a wonderful soundtrack. The soundtrack really suits the game well and you can tell they put a lot of effort and hard work into it. The soundtrack is made to feel right at home, whether that be in Haven, casually fighting Gremlins, the many dungeons levels that change every day or right under the Bosses nose.

The Graphics are Phenomenal and Creative for a game that has been around for so long. This Game was released on the 14th June 2011. So it's been around for a while and I'm glad it has. The cute style is definitely a theme with the knights and creatures around Haven. And it annually changes, so be ready for that!

There is Annual Adventures on Christmas and Halloween. But I won't write about that surprise. I'll leave those presents wrapped for you to open.

My personal experience: I've met a whole group of friends in Spiral Knights that have changed my life and how I perceive the world forever. We now have a Guild in the game called, Mitternacht. We are a close-knit family.

This is really a gem of a game. If you don't play it now, you'll be really missing out on something!

I love this game but the main problem here is, this game is a decade old and still Grey Havens' won't give us an Asia server rip asian players. Also, in terms of grinding i prefer the old system in where you only need the required mats and some energy to level up your gear. I would still recommend new players to at least try out this game this was once my cocaine back in early 2011-2013 so yeah.

100% Achieves in ~100h.

+ the mechanics are very friendly, the game can pull you for hours and you won't get bored of slicing undeads or gremlins too quickly,
+ the graphics pleases the eye and allows you to play also on older machines,
+ not really p2w, almost 100% of the things in the game can be easily achieved without them,
+ (for grinders) a bit slow collecting money for further upgrades, but after reaching the 9-3 rank, you only need to farm the boss called Vanaduke a few times and life becomes better.

About music.. hmm I guess it's kinda atmospheric but I didn't pay much attention on it when I was farming Vanaduke.

Im only new to the game and im having alot of fun good to play with family and friends

Most Vanguards like to help new players out and teach them the game

Its not Pay to win its pay to progress but you can play the game without spending a cent but you just have to grind the same mission or boss over and over

Warning: You have a 50% chance you are going to spend money

Guilds are alot of fun to be in because there are alot of new players to tech or old players to help you out also find a guild with a discord or Teamspeak its alot more easy to Learn

The Game has lovely graphics for been a old game wish I started it when it was alot more popular but its not dead

Game is free so nothing wrong with giving it a try

Since the beginning, the game has had a special, charming art style that brings a comfortable atmosphere to the now laggy servers, limited content, and slow progression rate that has been developed. Why? Don't ask, you'll never get your answer with this publisher!
Instead of asking questions, why don't you just use your hard earned paycheck to open some promotional loot boxes? Don't want to spend money? No worries! You can still find lockboxes from prize wheels to unbox some great cosmetics that are almost always worth less than the key you bought to open it!
If that's not enough for you, you might instead want to spice up your gear at Punch! Better keep those crowns handy, you're gonna need them in this slot machine. Don't worry, you'll get your desired unique variant after at least a million crowns!
Once you get that gear, venture into the deeps of the endgame: Shadow Lairs! Experience a more challenging version of boss levels in these distorted depths by using a shadow key to enter. Enter at your own risk, not because of the difficulty, but because of the payout that never gives more than the key. Nothing to worry, there's also one useful armor set out of five mostly useless armor sets that you can craft at the end of the road!
What can you do after shadow lairs? Glad you asked! There is a wonderful PvP mode called Lockdown! Team up with your fellow knights in a 6v6 capture point styled arena where the winners receive tokens to craft more weapons specific to this game mode that nobody plays! Did I mention that a few of these weapons are the best weapons in the game?
Speaking of the best weapons in the game, there's something that's even better! Have you ever wanted a mixer that shreds a mob in two clicks and an armor set that gives you a max damage bonus? You've come to the right place! At the low low price of $400, you too can have this amazing mixer! The armor set? That's not a problem, just wait for the biannual black kat event to farm for the 1/100 spawn rate mob that has a 1/400 chance to drop the item to obtain just one of the pieces to this armor set. If you want the other piece, just repeat this step five more times! Not too bad, right?

If you want my serious recommendation, play this game if you're looking for an abusive relationship.

Way, way too many problems. I suppose SK was cool at one time, but it's just a heap of junk now.

- Constant server latency issues leave players getting damaged by attacks that didn't hit them.
- Runs poorly on almost everything.
- Archaic and predatory business model. Pay-to-revive system demands you to insert coin to continue.
- Certain crafting recipes were not added to the game to avoid hurting sales of these items through MTX, most notably the final tier of material needed to upgrade equipment, making later-game progression painfully slow and mostly luck based unless you pay up.
- Nearly everything is for sale if you have premium currency, so anyone can buy power.
- Yes, it has PvP. Yes, the previous minus renders it nearly unplayable, and that's after the latency issues were done with it.
- Nearly devoid of any updates outside of a rotation of MMO-style seasonal events.
- Remaining community is mostly children and other nonhumans.

Spiral Knights is disappointing at every possible turn. It's riddled with jank, stagnated and stinks of greed.
It is not worth any decent person's time.

As a new player the community is as good as dead, there are no open lobbies. All the 1000+ hour players stick together never bothering with the influx of new people, it feels horrible. you're like a 2nd class citizen and to get out you have to open your wallet to the greedy developers. miserable experience.

At first its such a fun game, but as you progress to the 3-star zone it becomes clear how much the game shoves constant grinding or pay2proceed (8 hours for 100 energy, 200 needed for ONE 3-star craft) in your face. Then the rng on upgrading (very rare and high amounts of crystals needed for upgrade) and the feeling like the rng displayed on the screen is a lie (85% success chance, 7 tries, rip 2 days worth of work for those 200+ crystals). Dont be fooled by the cute looks, its not worth it.

First time I played this game was years ago
It was fun

It was a dungeon crawling, with no character level up system that is different with any other games
But it does have a tier system

I find it enjoyable to be honest
it is action and not tab-targetting system, much like the zelda series
the character design is unique
It gets a little bit grindy but, I don't feel that much because i enjoy the playstyle (though it gets tougher as you ascend in item progression)
the design is simple

however, this game has a declining playerbase and is unlikely to gain in the coming years
they stopped updating this game via its story nor content (they still add some cosmetics tho)

seriously its a good game but i think the devs don't really profit much since everything is doable even without cash

I still play occasionally for nostalgia

It's been a while since I touched this game. Just wanted to leave a review before I forget to.
Spiral Knights was a fun and unique game. Combat was smooth, story was nice, music was good, art style is very clean, and community is great.
It's a great game and has a lot of potential. It's sad to see that the game isn't updating anymore.
Many good memories were created here and I would like to thank all those who made the game fun.
Hopefully we get a reboot one day. Ty Spiral Knights for all the fun.

Been trying to find another game similar to this but nothing comes close. If anyone finds a similar game please tell.

BR: Um jogo com gameplay tão bom, mesmo com lag constante o jogo é uma obra de arte que supera gameplay de muitos jogos da atualidade...queria que eles trouxessem mais coisas pro jogo, reavivvasem ele.
Com a onde de jogos mobile entrando no mercado, uma edição jogavel pelo celular e um pouco de marketing fariam o jogo disparar novamente.

Eng: A melhor parte, o jogo conssegue ser um exemplo de qualidade e otimização, Spiral Knights fez com 512MB de Ram e 700MB de espaço oque qualquer jogo hoje em dia pede ao menos 4GB de Ram, e mais de 3GB de processamento.

A game with a gameplay so good, that even with the servers constant lag it is still a masterpiece that beats many new games...I realy wish they would implement more thing to the game, revived it.
With the wave of mobile games entering the market, a mobile playable version with some marketing could bring the game to the spotlight again.

More importantly, this game is an example of quality and optimization, Spiral knights did with 512MB Ram and 700Mb Storage, what games today ask for at least 4GB Ram and 3+GB of storage

As a late 2012 player, i find this game nostalgic. It was basically my childhood.However this game is super flawed, first of all its grindy but some of us enjoy that, the lack of updates is upsetting, I've dedicated up to 300 hours (I played on the spiral knight's launcher thing) with 5* gear.

After playing this game for a decade, there's just something about it that makes me refuse to stop playing it. Maybe it's the feeling of nostalgia I don't want to let go, but regardless, I won't stop unless if the servers go down. Either way, it's an underrated game that I definitely recommend even if the updates are slow, but I trust the new team.

This game used to be good.
In the current state it's not worth your time.
The economy is in ruins as players can maintain monopoly on items and sell it at inflated prices.
You will get enough craft items through the quest for 1 set of gear, but for anything more you will need to throw your credit card at it by buying it from the supply depot. The craft items have low drop rates and drop bound to the player. The only way to buy it off the auction house is if someone gets a rare RNG box and then gets the item and lists it.

the variant system for adding bonuses in your gear (which is a nice boost for pvp) is worse than black deserts enhancing.

new Content updates are very rare with the dev team reusing old events and focusing more on new costumes to cash in on whatever little playerbase is left.

The servers also suck and there are ping and lag issues if you are playing from anywhere else apart from US. It's fine if you solo the dungeons but there is noticeable freezing and frame drops in pvp and groups.

It was a fun game as a kid but the thing that turned me off from it looking back now is how long is took for weapons to create and it felt like a mobile game in the sense that you had to pay money for help with items or wait months at a time to get certain things you need.

I've played Spiral Knights for a long time now. Longer than what my playtime says, because I also played the game on Newgrounds. I was there at the beginning when the only thing available were arcades, Tortodrones were actual minibosses and SEGA was still publishing the game. So now, what can I say about the game and keep it short and sweet for you?
How about this: over the course of the game's life, Grey Havens has made Spiral Knights into the ultimate grindfest, devoid of any enjoyment but full of frustration due to heavily relying on RNG.
So let me point out the worst things to happen to game, all for the sake of Grey Havens wanting you to give them your money faster:
> Removal of Mist Energy - While you only got 100 of it daily and needed Crystal Energy to craft higher ranked gear as well, having that free energy meant that you had some relief when crafting, or that you could freely spend it on Energy Gates at the Arcade. Its removal essentially reinforce grinding for crowns or taking the easy way out and buy Energy with IRL money.
> Orbs of Alchemy - Short and simply, Orbs of Alchemy halted progression throughout the game, most noticeably when you have to do Hall of Heroes missions.
> Heat Crystals - These are like the Orbs of Alchemy, but worse. Much, much worse. Because they not only hinder what is meant to be a fluid leveling system but, because of their rarity, depending on the amount you have and on what level your gear is at, it won't even justify getting higher rank gear. For example, a 4-star piece of gear at lvl 10 is EQUALLY as effective as its 5-star upgrade AT LVL 7. And considering that you need to max level 4-star gear to rank it up to 5-star, the system's design ends up completely broken.
The only thing justifying the game staying up is the Auction House, and even then you have to be extremely cautious, since some hardcore traders have taken to use alt accounts to bid on the main's offers, thus inflating the prices and ensuring that anyone else who bids will have to pay a very high price. And, you know, that's illegal.
You want to play the game for the TF2 hat? That's fine, that's all it's worth for nowadays tbh. Because otherwise, you're not going to have fun for very long.

i would do unspeakable acts to the devs of this game to get it as a single player / co-op experience. all they would have to do is remove most the grind and i would play the hell out of this game with friends!

but alas, that is very unlikely. this game is fun for a bit but as i said, it has a awful grind around two thirds the way into the story. the only active players are traders, it seems, and new players trying it out because its free. it doesn't get updates anymore; just has rotating yearly events.

After playing nearly 500 hours of this game, I feel as though my greatest regret is that this game has so much missed potential. To start with the positives, the game is visually pleasing and the art style works well with the game-play. The lore and story aren't anything special but there's plenty of missions and grinding to keep you motivated. The simple, classic feeling combat can be both relaxing or intense, depending on the level difficulty. Tons of gear, loot, cosmetics, and so on. On paper, the game is a total hit, a 9/10.

However, what really limits the game from being enjoyable is the paywall and pay-to-win aspects of the game. I am fine with games that include cosmetics for purchase, especially in free to play games. However, I don't think pay to win mechanics are justifiable in any game. In the game, you can instantly buy the highest tier items, gear, and revives with real world money. Sure, you can grind out to get the free items, or grind for hours to get a rare chance at getting the crafting materials required to make the best gear... but this takes hundreds of hours. Moreover, you have to pay to unlock extra weapon and trinket slots, which expire after 30 days. I feel that these intense paywall mechanics are off-putting to new and casual players - why bother grinding for all this time if someone who has the privilege of paying for items and gear can get everything in an instant?

In summary, Spiral Knights is a great concept for a game that was poorly executed because of paywalls in every aspect of the game. If this game ever gets a second installment I would strongly recommend the developers change their model. I would much rather see this game as a $10 or $20 game that purchasing gives you full access to all content, rather than a free to play, pay to win situation. If the game interests you, spend some time in it and see for yourself - though I warn you not to get too attached.

Lemme get something straight. This game is fun. Truly. But the progression WILL grind to a halt eventually and become unfun. I think the main source of this is the incredibly low drop rate of Orbs of Alchemy. The Missions also don't give you enough Orbs to upgrade all the equipment you've been getting over the course of said missions. I've been stuck at 3 stars for forever, and to my recollection, I've NEVER gotten an Orb to drop. Not once. Not even after taking a break for several years. Yes, I'm a long time player.

They need to either increase the drop rate of Orbs of Alchemy or remove them entirely. Otherwise, it's highly unlikely I'll ever return.

If you came here years earlier, I might've recommended this, but because of how dead the game is, how grindy the game will inevitably get after not too long, there's no way I can recommend this game in its current state, nor do the developers actually care considering this game hasn't been updated in forever.

Why This is my Favorite MMO Dungeon Crawler

Despite some limitations, this game will prove to enjoyable to you if you don't like overcomplex MMOs
This game is unique in the way it captures all of the necessary traits of a successful MMO while still retaining a level of simplicity that make WoW look like rocket science. A few damage types, easily distinguishable enemy types, Pokémon style matchups between them, and a limited but also various pool of weapons and armor, all wrap this game up in a nice little welcoming bow.

[b]You will probably fall in love with this game's art style.
The color psychology in this game is probably what has me hooked. The maxed out equipment looks really cool, so hang in there if your guy looks lame in low tier gear. And if you get to the endgame, you get to customize the aesthetics of your outfits (add wings, hats, halos to your armor! No color changes, and no weapon appearance customizations)

[b]This game is grindy, but in a fair way.
You get just enough gold from missions and dungeon runs to motivate you. Commodities are fairly priced, at late game (Mid game is a serious grind, on both of my playthroughs it took me around 168 hours (I used to play on the native launcher so the hours from steam are just a bit of my total) to get to [spoiler]Vanguard[/spoiler], the highest rank.

[b]There is a meta, and the game is a lot less enjoyable if you don't obey it,
so get a knowledgeable vet to school you on your loadout. That's probably the biggest limitation of the game; there's a pretty limited level of customization, and a lot of great customizations are far weaker then other options (Such as [spoiler]Winmillion[/spoiler], the coolest looking sword in the game). If you really want a fun experience, make the wiki guides your bible.

Before playing on steam i put in over 300 hours into this GEM of a game! It keeps you coming back, i left for months them came back to this game because of the current pandemic! Its still as fun as I remember it! The community is very tight nit but will accept you with open arms. Although the grind to reach Vanguard can be difficult in its ever changing world (The Clockwork), it will keep you coming back for more! there is a place for every person in this game.

I took a break from the hars world of Eve online and found this gem, one of the friendliest MMO game ever, since the main game is based on mission running and co-op, it's really is a great place if you just want to spend your time peacefully. This game a small little community that cares about each other and eager to help newbies!

The problem about this game is only the servers is running on potato plantation, the worst enemy you could face is no other than the hi-ping himself.

VERY GOOD! I recommend this AMAZING game to everyone, I don't even play Dungeon Crawlers, but this is great! I initially came here to get a hat for the game Team Fortress 2, but I found a very enjoyable game that will definetly stay in my Steam Library.

The game itself is fun. The biggest issue the game has is that there isn't enough content and they don't really add anything new anymore. I wish they would make the game open world or make new missions because it is a good game it just gets boring fast.

A great game at it's core. Unfortunately, it's plagued with excess microtransactions and the playerbase is mostly gone. I wish Grey Havens eased up on the microtransactions and made loot drops at least reasonable.

The game is still playable, although you're unlikely to ever play in a party of 4 as it's intended to be played.

Design a problem, monetize the solution. That's Spiral Knights in a nutshell. At its core, Spiral Knights is a relatively decent game, particularly after the overhaul of the energy system that removed the necessity of Mist Energy to continue adventuring.

It has, however, simply moved the exploitation of its playerbase elsewhere.

Crafting is essential in this game. Crafting gear with good Unique Variant bonuses is the only way to get ahead of the power curve and maintain an arsenal that can deal with the game's increasing challenges. To craft gear, however, you need Orbs of Alchemy. These orbs are unnecessarily rare. Expect to farm boss maps constantly to accumulate the orbs necessary to craft your stuff. Crafting UV'ed gear is entirely random, so expect several crafts before you can get one with UV bonuses. Each craft takes three orbs of the same rarity as the thing you're making, and getting one orb across 3-6 floors of dungeon is a feat.

This can mean dozens, maybe even hundreds of runs until you get the item you want. Or you can buy Orbs of Alchemy from the cash shop.

Periodically, the game will give you trinkets that provide small resistances to nonstandard damage types and may have other bonuses. These are enormously handy for filling any gaps in your armor & helm's defenses, or stacking additional bonuses onto your gear set.

However, you can't equip these. In order to equip trinkets, you have to buy access to the two trinket slots; 150 energy for 30 days access, each.

Using the right weapon for the job is also a massive part of this game. Failure to bring the right weapons for a fight can lead to you being undergunned or unprepared for the attacks your enemies are capable of. Some maps can have as many as three different enemy families, each with different behaviors and weaknesses that you really need the right weapons to exploit.

There are four weapon slots, giving you the ability to equip what you need. Except that two of them are paywalled: 250 energy for 30 days access, each. This isn't just mere convenience, either; there's a status effect called Curse. Being Cursed causes anywhere from 1-4 of your equipped weapons to cause damage to you when they're used. The more weapon slots you have, the more likely you are to have a weapon that remains usable while you're Cursed.

Let me reiterate this: they've paywalled equipment slots. To have a full complement of weapons and trinkets, Grey Havens expects you to shell out a total of 800 energy every month.

If you like the game's pets, called Battlesprites, then prepare to pony up. If you want an additional Battlesprite aside from the default one you get as part of the early-game's missions, that's going to set you back 2,100 energy. Resetting a Battlesprite's skill points so that you can fix build mistakes costs 2,000 energy. Evolving a Battlesprite costs 125 energy for the first evolution, 250 for the second, and 525 for the Ultimate evolution. The game does give you free samples of Evo Catalysts as you go through the mission system, but only one of each type, so if you get a second Battlesprite, you're SOL unless you pay Energy, because they can't progress past level 14 without catalysts.

Any cosmetic accessories you get are attached to your Helmet or Armor. You cannot freely remove them once attached, however. If you want to retain your unique look and move your accessories to another piece of gear, you must Recover the accessories first.

This costs anywhere from 3,500 to 10,000 energy, depending on which accessory slot the item is attached to. The most expensive accessory recovery can cost nearly $30 USD's worth of energy. Even the least expensive removal is nearly $10. While cosmetic, this is extortionate for something that is merely a reorganization of items you already have.

The accessories themselves are typically obtained from lockboxes, obtained from the random reward wheel at the end of each dungeon floor.

You aren't opening those lockboxes without keys: 750 energy for a silver key, which opens any lockbox once.

Even some dungeon features require energy to interact with. Broken Mechaknights and Auto Turrets require 5 energy to activate, creating a temporary ally that lasts for one dungeon floor or until destroyed, whichever comes first. Danger Rooms require 3 energy, just to fight several waves of monsters for a large amount of otherwise-generic dungeon loot. There's even some loot rooms blocked by energy gates, which also require 3 energy to enter. A Shadow Key, costing 1,800 energy, is required to access a Shadow Lair.

Even something as basic as starting a guild for you and your friends requires 500 energy, plus whatever you spend on furnishing your guild hall.

To put some of the energy prices above into perspective, ~$10 USD gets you 3,500 energy, or you can purchase energy from other players, 100 energy at a time, for a player-determined price, subject to whatever rampant inflation the market will support. Right now it's sitting at ~7,500 crowns per 100 energy. Of course, any energy that's being sold by players had to be purchased with real cash, so no matter what, someone is paying to win.

Note that the smallest energy denomination that they sell is 750, for $2.45 USD. For something as simple as having full equipment slots for a month, you're either spending five bucks instead of two and a half, or you're buying energy on the player market. Either way, you're buying more energy than you need; pay entirely cash, and you're left with 700 energy left over. Pay cash and then crowns, and you have an extra 50. Try to pay entirely in crowns via the energy market, and you're looking at forking over around 61-62k crowns, and that's assuming the price is stable at about 7.5k crowns per 100 energy.

BTW, notice how buying in bulk gets you more energy per dollar spent? Yeah, that's another trick they use to get you to spend more in a single sitting. Admittedly, it's kind of a standard for the industry, so I'm not too miffed about it, but it is yet another form of psychological manipulation that this company uses and that potential players should be aware of.

Now, I'll admit, guilds, lockboxes, and cosmetic accessories aren't necessary to play the game, or even to play the game well. But when you paywall equipment slots, skill resets, even gameplay features and content, you're establishing your game as straight-up pay-to-win. Of course, this is saying nothing about how basic versions of nearly any piece of gear can be purchased from the cash shop outright.

This is inexcusable. Until this changes, I will not be recommending Spiral Knights to anyone. Grey Havens needs to stop paywalling equipment slots and dungeon content, at the very least. If Orbs of Alchemy stop being extortionately rare on top of it, I'd even consider this game worth playing.

Note that it'd merely be worth playing at that point, certainly not worth paying for. Not until they take a long hard look at their pricing. As it stands right now, $10 won't even get you fifteen Eternal Orbs of Alchemy, let you open 5 lockboxes, or even get you into two Shadow Lairs. It's barely enough to pull one accessory off of a piece of gear, if you're lucky and it's occupying one of the least-expensive slots. That's frankly obscene

Oh, and if you care about Steam Trading cards, they're an incentive for purchasing energy with Steam Wallet funds. You don't get card drops unless you pay.

Considering that this game has other problems, like some gear being PVP-exclusive, and outstanding bugs that have existed since launch (like Snarbolax deciding to randomly ignore the bell that makes him vulnerable, or restoring his invincibility in less than a second of being belled, or the Roarmulus Twins AI deciding to just never give you a chance to harm them) Grey Havens is asking a lot.

Great game, community is kind of small, the story isnt complete and without grinding the game takes a bit. But however the community is fairly friendly and this game is fun to play and looks great. Also spiral knights is best enjoyed with friends (also makes things easier).
