Über das Spiel

Stationeers puts you in control of the construction and management of a space station to run by yourself in single player, or online multiplayer with your friends. Complex atmospheric, electrical, manufacturing, medical, agriculture, and gravitational systems require your thought and management at all times!

Stationeers is designed for hardcore players who want a game that is systems oriented. Full utilization and optimization of these complex systems will only come from great knowledge and practice. The game presents a variety of science-based survival problems that you must address. Resource and time pressures will drive your initial designs, but the demands of a thriving station will guide you later.

Features:
  • Construction system rewards well-designed architectural, atmospheric, and electrical plans.
  • Atmospherics system for temperature, pressure, combustion, gas mixtures, water, and fire.
  • Physics on dynamic items in the world such as wall fatigue and explosive decompression.
  • Dangerous environments to explore & develop including exotic planets, and asteroid belts.
  • Deformable voxel terrain on worlds and asteroids that enhances mining and exploration.
  • Construct complex factories using machines, conveyors, and computers.
  • Ubiquitous logic system to automate every aspect of your base.
  • Write programs using Integrated circuits & assembly code to automate your systems.
  • Farm livestock and grow plants as a integral part of the station’s ecosystem.
  • Many aspects of the game offer full modding support via the Steam Workshop.
  • Designed from the ground up for multithreading to improve performance + scalability.

Space is empty and the planets are unforgiving to human life. You and your friends initially must decide how to meet your basic needs. Longer term, you will need to engineer solutions to power, heat, resource, and atmospheric problems. Build the most efficient systems you can by utilizing machines and programmable computers to develop automated systems.

Whether on a distant lonely planet, or deep inside an asteroid field, you control every aspect of building & running your station or mothership. Harvest nearby resources and use a wide range of tools to construct the ultimate station. Everything your station requires will be built and managed by you and your friends.

What do you do with all that ore you mine? Process it through machines and turn it into goods for more construction of course! There are lots of specialist machines to build and configure such as smelters, sorters, centrifuges, stackers, conveyors, fabricators and more.

Our robust, thriving community has been sharing their creations with us through the Stationeers Steam Workshop since 2017. Join us and build the future of tomorrow... today!

Hallo an Alle !!!

Sehr komplexes Weltraum Survival Crafting Game.

Sehr guter Support seiten Entwickler.

Bestes Basis-Space-Simulations Spiel ever ! Weiter so !

This rating is a grudging thumbs up. I ^&**ing hate the 2 hand souls-like inventory system. I...hate...it. However, there is a plethora of juicy, tasty corn kernels buried in that colossal turd of an item management system. The problem solving and troubleshooting mechanics are beyond compare. Fluid management is a blast (literally sometimes), and Environmental management is challenging and entertaining. Power management has its ups and downs. Electricians don't cut their cables into 1 meter lengths and them splice them back together piece by piece when making a run so why do you Rocketwerkz?. It has a pleasing art style and a large variety of items that help you repeatedly kill yourself as you learn. It's as hard or 'easy' as you want thanks to the custom planet system.

I hate this ^%$#ing game. Now I'm going to go play it some more.

I fully enjoy this game. It checks a lot of boxes for me. Initially I found it very harsh, but greatly enjoyed the challenge. Am looking forward to more content in future patches. My only critique is I'd like to play the 'Escape from Mars' scenario again. Perhaps consider replacing the potato in that scenario with a seed? ;)

people have actually given a negative only for the difficulty.......omfg lol this game has a very steep learning curve, its not for stupid people, i can see me putting in 1000s of hours into this, i love space games, i love survival games, i love factory and automation games, this game has all of these elements in it, i have only built part of a base lol but i love a challenge and games that give you your moneys worth, games that teach about engineering and construction, it is amazing, lovely art style too. if you want a game like Space engineers, this isnt it, no ship construction, its all about building a facility on a distant world for a colony, its about managing resources and mining them and creating automated factories and you can play it online, i highly recommend, if you think its too expensive of a game, then you must know nothing about development, they had to make the game and make the science in the game to go with it, that must have taken a hell a lot of thinking, from the minds of geniuses, i hope this never gets abandoned, for me this is a 10/10 perfection WELL DONE DEVS

Huge learning curve. A game like this could have used short tutorial videos explaining the science behind each piece of equipment. Instead, players have to rely on internet searches for answers. But it's extremely rewarding as you solve problem after problem.

the game is missing 5 things that aren't even that complicated to implement:
1. The number of lines available for programmable chips should be doubled

2. a function should be added for the AIMEE and the rocket capable of discarding unwanted materials or vice versa a function capable of selecting the desired materials or better both functions :)

3. It would take something to prevent the AIMEE from getting stuck in the holes eg: 1. a sensor that allows you to bypass them. 2. a module that builds the road before the AIMEE ends up in the hole. 3. simply make sure that the AIMEE does not get stuck in the holes

4. a tool to repair damaged objects.

5. a charging station for AIMEE

this alone would add dozens if not hundreds of hours of gameplay, then you could upgrade spaceships and add planetary travel

This is a good game, Pretty good depth. But way to complicated, i never even got a base set up never smelted steel, spent more time watching you tube videos causee teh tutorial is glitchy and had to keep restarting it to finish just one of many. I would be out of food and water and power way to often or just have eveything blown away cause of a sttorm. spending way to much time outside the game to figure out how to play the dumb game.

It's a base building game with in depth mechanics. I love being able to get lost in a rabbit hole for hours figuring out how to do something. and there are the ever fun moments where something was forgotten and now something critical is broken. The fact that I am my own worst enemy on the surface of an inhospitable world is so much fun for me. I only wish that it had expansive cooling and better handling of water but it feels like a small complaint.

Incredible game. Very complex, a lot of interwoven systems that require a lot of patience to understand and master. The game is currently undergoing a multiplayer re-write but even without it I find myself having fun with friends more than I have in recent memory.
The game quickly rose in the list of my favorite games and is probably going to stay there a while.

Very strongly recommended as long as you're willing to be patient and have a knack for systemic games.

The negative review relates only to the UI and inventory everything else is excellent. This game requires you to switch between cursor mode and look mode for some strange reason and its all to do with how the inventory is managed. Minecraft doesn't require you to switch to cursor mode and look mode to choose a block and place it, neither does space engineers. It requires you to learn a huge amount of things because the game is very in depth (its had several tutorial reworks and its still confusing and doesnt explain enough. Its also currently broken stopping progression because you cant fill a water bottle with ice anymore, but you only have ice for the water bottle tutorial) and on top of that you need to equip tools to your hand while needing a specific material in the other, the tool should take the required material straight out of the inventory. This game seriously needs a hotbar and inventory screen that way they could remove the cursor mode and the confusing equipment slots.

Just want to end this by saying the devs are very talented the game is very deep and has massive potential, the updates are regular and significant but its built on a very confusing and fiddly inventory management system.

No other game quite captures the surviving the harsh environment of space or moons/planets.
I have searched for a long time for a game like this. The only one that was close was Take On Mars and this game is far superior. The learning curve is massive, but there is many tutorials. Managing gasses / pressure / energy management / materials / food / water. Dealing with storms and the extreme heat and cold of space. I really love this game and am glad the developers have chosen, not to make it watered down.

Tool tips would be a big plus in this game. Actual working tutorials would help.

And yet another game that is rendered impossible to play because someone has decided to make the controls so complicated and it takes to much effort to memorize and learn them, removing any type of enjoyment that could possibly be had in this game.

And then along with the fact that you're trying to figure controls, you are then left with wondering if you are using the wrong controls or if you don't have the recipe right. These developers that make these games must come to realize that their concepts of controls may play out great in their own minds, but in reality they suck and take everything away from what could be a decent game in most cases.

It reminds me of the old school developer who insisted on using every keyboard function he could come up with and expected you to memorize in order to play his Space ship based game that was poorly designed to begin with.

Though you're not building spacecraft, this game is more deserving of the title 'Space Engineers'. The environmental/atmospheric mechanics are robust, the process chain for production is complex and demanding, and building/engineering options are rather open.

A great sandbox game for those that like complicated building processes; a complaint might be that there's not many game modes/objectives/motivations beyond the sandbox, so you really will only enjoy it if you can set your own objectives.

I wanted to like this game.

The tutorials do not cover enough to survive. If you don't learn to survive fast enough you die. So you watch youtube videos and learn that the end game is just building a rocket that magically collects resources for you. Now I don't even want to.

The moon seems the intended place to start, but is it?

If the lander could provide minimal ongoing survival I could spend time learning how things work. Such as partially refilling oxygen, battery and food, so that I want to make improvements.

A phenomenally fun glimpse into the world of engineering and the wonderful science involved. I'm literally saving money on my monthly power bill because of things I've learned in this game. Definitely one of my favorite games of all time and I still have hundreds if not thousands of hours more to fully appreciate this game while learning the whole time. The moment you finish your first airlock on the moon and start growing plants ON THE MOON you'll be hooked. I consider Stationeers to be more of an astronaut simulator. I feel like it gives me an idea of what daily life would be like for a colonizing astronaut. Bravo, devs.

The UI is honestly the deal-breaker for me. I LOVE the idea of a building system where you build things in stages instead of just crafting it instantly like you would in some other games of this genre. The hand system is for the birds though. It makes building anything really tedious. This game is in desperate need of a tool belt system. It is very tedious to dig for commonly used tools every 5 seconds because I can only have two things at the ready at any given time. It's unrealistic in a sci-fi world to not have tool belts. Heck, even in our modern day world builders have tool belts for hammers, screw drivers, etc. The other problem is the wiring system is very tedious. You have to use a tool to cycle through all the possible inputs for a system. This NEEDS to be a drag and drop menu. It's for these two reasons that I can't recommend this game.

I was originally put off by the comments about the unnecessarily complex UI and/or systems. In the end I decided to try it and I'm extremely glad that I did.

The game is absolutely awesome. I really love building and automation, two things this game does awesomely well. I have spent countless hours in Satisfactory and this is probably the first game that might take up even more of my time.

It's not yet perfect, for instance automated mining has quite a ways to go still but there is so much there already. The devs are releasing substantial updates on a regular schedule so I have no doubt the remaining systems will be finalized before final release.

In short, it is a unique game with a bit of a learning curve but once you master the basics, it is immensily satisfying to automate your way to the perfect space station.

Seriously, if you even vaguely think this game might be for you, just buy it. You won't be disappointed.

I bought this for myself and my son (10). After 40 minutes of trying to build just a simple 2x2 building I returned the game. The building is overly tedious having only 2 slots in which to carry/hold items you constantly have to pick stuff up and drop it. Needless to say the 2x2 building never got finished.

I love this game... when it works. I truly wish I could recommend this game. I realize the game is in alpha, but they seem to prioritize new content when the current content is riddled with severe bugs. I've hosted a lot of dedicated servers across many games, but I've never seen such a wide array of game breaking bugs. From a system admin standpoint, I deal with players unable to join (only some cases can be resolved with a server restart) or the server forgetting to write world data to file and losing a week of progress on restart. (My personal favorite is when a player is unable to join the server, you may find their brain tumbling around on the ground where they should spawn.) An average user experience may involve randomly dying/destroying your suit and error messages spamming the screen on join or after interacting with objects in world. The bugs I experience are usually already reported, and many marked as moderate severity in their bug tracker... from last year, yet they still remain unresolved.

Again, I love the game when it works. I plan to follow the progression of their development and I desperately hope they prioritize game breaking issues over the new content updates in the future. When that happens, you can be sure I'll be recommending this game to everyone I know.

Tedious =/= Hardcore

All actions in game take longer than they reasonably should, and take the focus away from the interesting mechanics, poor documentation, poor user guidance, poor development.

Then again, if I knew it was a DayZ developer building this game, I wouldn't have even made the purchase.

I'm quite enjoying this. It has some complexity to it, so I'd recommend going to the moon first in creative, and just work out the details of the various buildings, layouts, and logic configuration you'll need while not worrying about dying or having your food rot away before you get your greenhouse set up.

It's not quite as complex as I'd like, but it still scratches an itch, where you manage pressures, temperatures, and automation at a deeper level than other games in this genre.

Some things that caught me off-guard until I realized what was happening (these are not complaints, just fun puzzles you can look forward to):

- The daylight sensor gives me a vertical angle for the sun that cannot be sent as is to your solar panels and have them properly face the sun...that was a fun puzzle to solve, so I won't give it away. Also, there may be more than one way to translate that 0-180deg vertical solar angle into the 0-100% percent vertical bend angle used by the solar panels.

- The gas sensor gives the temperature in kelvins to your logic reader. Not something you necessarily need to worry about, but it turns out the kelvin-to-celsius conversion is super easy, so I went ahead and did it so that when setting up my temperature automation for my greenhouse, kitchen, and bedroom, I can set my min / max temperature dials in celsius rather than kelvins.

- The welding gas you can mix (at 66% volatile gas & 34% oxygen) won't ignite if it is too cold (and I generated my oxygen from the ice oxite, so it was very cold, indeed). So I took my filled canister and dropped it in my greenhouse for a while then came back to find it warmed up. Although I might need to set up some way to warm up the gas before pumping it into my canisters. Or perhaps I should just store my canisters in a room full of temperature-controlled warming gas? Hmm....worth trying. I don't know if the pollutants I've been saving have any use. That might be one such use. Then again, perhaps storing potentially volatile gas such as welding fuel in a non-cold environment could wind up risky. Something to think about.

Anyhow, I recommend this game if you're into this sort of thing. I hope the developers continue to add complexity to it.

I love the concept of this game, but as the other negative reviews point out, it is pointlessly over-complicated to the point of frustration. It isn't so much the aspect of it being a hard survival game, I love that! However, you constantly have to switch hands and move items in and out of your inventory into one hand and into the other and move this piece of scrap into this hand and this tool into the other for the first phase of building an item, then you need to switch tools and switch materials and build the next phase, then you have to change to yet another tool.... oh my god! I mean this is how tools and repairs work in the real world, but in the real world you don't have to open a GUI to grab items or change what is in your hand. In a game this mechanic is simply frustrating to the point of exhaustion. You can get the hang of this system pretty quickly, but it removes all joy from the game.

I'm on the fence on this one. If there was a sideways thumb, I'd give use it for Stationeers. Since there isn't, I have to go with thumbs down. But read on and decide for yourself...

As EA game development goes, Stationeers reminds me more of my experience with Empyrion Galactic Survival than, e.g., KSP. EGS added plenty of new content over time, but never adequately addressed some of the serious problems plaguing the game. Although I spent a lot of time on EGS, it ultimately proved disappointing. KSP, meanwhile, added new content slowly, but with better polish before moving on to more. EGS is no longer on my hard drive...KSP is.

If you enjoy nerdy engineering, Stationeers can be fun. From controlling and mixing gases, building control circuits or writing programs, it has some interesting detail. I find it to be far more approachable than Space Engineers. Despite the criticism of others, I find the UI to be workable, though sometimes inconsistent.

Holding Stationeers back are:

- Out of date, incomplete or inconsistent documentation
- Mostly unpolished game mechanics, e.g., lack of adequate and simple pressure relief valves, to some downright broken mechanics, e.g., food decay
- Some obvious bugs, e.g., a very buggy custom world creation screen that often doesn't yield the desired settings
- Inconsistent use of units, e.g., C on some devices, K on others, and use of non-standard coordinate systems, e.g., horizontal and vertical solar angles, instead of azimuth and elevation.

Will Stationeers ever achieve polish? Given it's current state after more than 3 years since initial EA release, I'm skeptical. But if you're ok with the issues, you might still find it to be fun.

A little (very...) hardcore, with a steep learning curve but super rewarding.
It still has some stuff that need improvement, specially performance wise as it is a very CPU demanding game and your fps are going to drop, no mather what cpu or how many cores you have... The more stuff you have on your base the heavier the simulation and the lower the fps will be.
Other than that, if you're into building games, and not afraid to learn new stuff, this is a very cool game!

The fundamentals of this game are great but it's ruined by a completely garbage UI. Example: Your hotbar has 2 slots simulating hands I guess. So lets say you want to build a door. Open inventory, drag door kit into hand slot, close inventory, place door, open inventory, drag welder into slot 1, drag plastic plates into slot 2, close inventory, weld plates into door frame, open inventory AGAIN, drag welder out of slot 1 replace with crowbar, drag plastic out of slot 2 replace with glass, close inventory, crowbar glass into door, OPEN INVENTORY AGAIN 4th time now, replace crowbar with pliers, replace glass with cable, close inventory, wire door into electric grid. All that shit to put a single door block into play! And almost every block you place is like a 2-3 step process like that. it's obnoxious, and it's just as hard to deconstruct blocks. Imagine deconstructing a chunk of your base with 100+ blocks. That's where I called it quits. I'm all for hardcore engineering but this is just hardcore carpal tunnel syndrome.

I'm all into sandbox games, discovered Stationeers accidentally on YouTube and I was impressed by amount of details this game has.

I'm going to update this review as I get more playtime.

~6 hrs playtime: managed to not die in the first days after landing on Mars. It took me a while to understand how to get water, I had no water bottles left and 0% hydration when I finally built Ice Crusher and Bottle Filler to refill my bottles! So far so good, although I decided to restart my game since I had no idea what to do at first and my 'base' turned to be a complete mess.

I'm going to update this review as I get more playtime.

Start building base on Mars after two attempts.
Everything is okay until the sandstorm hits.
Realize that all of my crates and items are outside, laying on the ground.
Panic and run outside to see if it's gone. It's gone.
Desperately running outside to find it only to lost in the storm with 15% on life support and it's night.
Nearly lost hope.
Digging under the ground and turn off the light wait till morning.
Return to base and saw that some of my crates is still stuck in the Lander's leg and yes all the food and plants are still there.
Now I'm trying to prepare myself on a journey to retrieve all my items that is blown away in the Sandstorm.

10/10 would get blown away again.

I don't think I've ever encountered such a frustratingly realistic or complex survival sim game. At this point I'm only 17 hours in and I still don't know what I'm doing. I've started and restarted likely over a dozen times, and each time getting further. Figuring out problems as they arise. Each restart was precipitated by some sort of realization about a problem after dying, or accidentally wasting a precious resource, or just because I wasted too much time.

If you're a fan of space survival; if you loved reading The Martian, you should play this and embrace your inner Mark Watney. You start in space with supplies. You have an EVA suit, oxygen, some food, some water, a full charge. When you hit START, the clock starts ticking. Prioritize. How do you stay alive?

For those that might be concerned about the UI... I will admit it feels a bit clunky at first, but honestly I think it's just an unavoidable consequence of having so much complexity in the game. I promise you'll adapt quickly and you'll get used to it, even come to enjoy it. It's just...different. Just remap a few key things that make it more intuitive for you and you're good to go. Sometimes it's a bit on the annoying side not being able to find the right tool at first, but again you get over it. For me it doesn't detract from the game, it's just another thing to learn.

I decided to write this review after my latest failure. I got further than I ever had before but ended up blowing myself up. Yes. Blowing myself up. So as not to spoil the fun, here's just a hint, I was trying to make a more complex metal, and I'm pretty sure I made the reaction a bit too hot and....explodey. Still early game so I'll restart, and this time making improvements I've discovered in just my last game.

So this went a bit long so I'll just conclude that for at least me, I love survival games and the sense of elation that comes from solving problems in games. This game has one of the nastiest learning curves I've ever encountered, and I say that affectionately. Coming here from ONI (also fantastic), which was similar; but this is harder. I'm hooked though; it's the kind of curve that makes me excited to make plans when I'm not playing for my next base. Looking forward to my improvements starting tomorrow.

If you enjoy base building, survival, and trying to avoid exposing your friends to the vacuum of space, you'll like this game.

Note about dedicated servers:
If you're considering hosting this game using the standalone dedicated server, I'd steer clear. Based on the track record of what gets fixed first, the dedicated server is not how the devs intend for people to experience this game:
- The admin tools leave *a lot* to be desired. You've basically just got kick and ban.
- There are entire chunks of the game that don't work if you're using the dedicated server. Some of these haven't worked for years (e.g. the AIMEe mining robot), and it appears there's no fix in sight as the devs actively focus their time elsewhere.

I got this game on Thursday. It's now Sunday evening, and i have 46 hours in it.

If you like the shenanigans of station 13, the complexity of factorio and the co-op feel of Sea of thieves, then this is definitely the game for you.

If you're adverse to having to learn how things work, then probably not - this game is complicated, and the information you need to survive is hidden behind trial and error, and maybe a bit of google-fu. The tutorials are alright, but will not teach you exactly what you need, just a skill set that will help.

Save often, and in multiple slots.

9/10 (Would vent colleagues into space again)

As an engineer myself I greatly respect the time and dedication it takes to fully understand the game and how things work. I enjoy the thrill of learning something new about the game. That being said the difficulty curve is insane and requires a large amount of knowledge to even start playing let alone surviving. If you like a challenging PvE game, this might be the choice for you. Be warned - you will spend a lot of time experimenting/reading about how to play before you succeed in a game.

Also:

Developers, please add functionality for creating a new world so you can set how much sunlight you can get per-day? As in say 75% light for 25/50/75/100% of the day itself, e.g. 6/12/18/24 hours in a day.

I would also enjoy easier charging of batteries, maybe solar panels could produce more? I find it extremely difficult to run a base with 24/h energy right now even if I have 35+ solar panels if I am trying to do work throughout the night.

I dont think I've ever left a review for a game, but I feel compelled to do so with this one. This game is everything I've been looking for, for years now. While theories can be simple. execution is or can be extraordinarily complex, so be patient. You can attack problems from either a mechanical or programmatic angle, adding more layers of complexity the further you expand, even working in automation to have a computer balance all of these for you (you have to figure out the circuitry too). You are not going to have it all figured out in a day. I've restarted so many times because each playthrough I seem to have another aha! moment, and I just love that! Reaching a sustainable balance, with food, temperature, power, atmospheric pressure, etc..., is so freaking satisfying!

This may never get read by them, but to the devs - what a brilliant and magnificent game you guys have created! Figuring things out in the game is tough, so I cant imagine the amount of thought that went into building all of the systems into this game that you did in the first place. I am so wildly impressed! This game is a true masterpiece in my eyes. Bravo!

I dont usually say this, but pay full price for this one if you can. The devs more than earned it and I cannot wait to see how much further it goes!

Think of it like Oxygen Not Included, but you're only managing one duplicant (yourself) and you're in first-person. This game incorporates multiple areas of science (physics, chemistry, space, geology, systems theory, choice theory, thermodynamics, electrical engineering, +++) and rewards proper planning and management. Getting something to work feels extremely rewarding, while executing poor designs can be very costly. The tutorials are helpful to a certain point. This game expects you to take concepts learned through the tutorials to fumble your way through the more complex pieces. However it prepares the player enough to be able to fumble through if they understand how each piece of the simpler systems work. If you like a good challenge, this is it.

Very difficult to recommend this game to all but the EXACT type of audience it's targeting - however if you are that kind of person, you will have a good time despite the:

- Painful new player experience

- Clunky, slow building

- Logic system that requires literal meters of space to perform the simplest functions (this has been mentioned in another comment but PLEASE devs, I'm begging you to rip off stormworks logic system)

- Unforgiving learning curve (the unofficial wiki is helpful but incomplete, the ingame Stationpedia is getting better but still fairly obtuse, adding a search function helped a lot)

- Multiplayer which punishes you for having more people due to food/power running out far faster (would probably be too broken to have each player spawn with their own pod, but maybe they get their own crate of perishables or something so your survival timer doesn't half each time a new player joins)

- Mindless grinding for ores until you can automate it (I have never gotten far enough to automate it)

- Roadmap being very private and hush-hush, it's not a bad thing to want to surprise players with new features, but it would be nice to know where the game is actually going before you spend money on it

The game does warn you it's not a casual game, and if you're anything like me the first thing you do on any game you're interested in is check the user reviews for the negative ones, so you'll have seen a bunch of people whos complaints I'm echoing - I actually bought the game, refunded it, then bought it again when nothing else was scratching the itch in the same way.

And for that reason, despite the things I dislike about it, it wouldn't be fair for me to actively recommend against it.

An experience of sublimity and profound grace;

Stationeers has many complex and meaningful systems and simulations that exist together in a game world. This comes together in a meaningful and immediate, not removed way, for the player, who has to also exist in this world, with these systems integral to the player's survival; and therefore, integral and constant to the gameplay that one experiences during their game.

Interacting with, and even constructing, these systems brings about those moments of grace that result from the beauty of observing, designing, or creating a system that operates within the rules of the natural world. And so that same world is so important to Stationeers, for it is the simulation of the game world that renders these systems their meaning. Plants and persons breath, and the world reacts. The sun rises, and its energy can be felt and engaged with.

So Stationeers is not only a place to engage with systems. It is a game world where these systems are made real and full of grace to the human mind, by virtue of the larger system of the simulation in which all else exists. So the true joy of Stationeers is that of human creativity; made meaningful and beautiful by the restrictions of existence.

My recommendation is unconditional.

This is a fairly complex space simulation game. I am impressed with some of the updates done, there are some things still to be straightened but it's a game I really enjoy to play. I am looking forward to seeing how it goes in the future.

Space Station 13 meets The Martian

Stationeers is a bit of a odd ball game, but a interesting and relaxing one. You play as a astronaut landing on a moon or planet, and trying to create a station/base through mining and crafting various parts of it via use of automated crafting machines. However, to do so is a feat of pure engineering and planning skill, for reasons I will go into later. This is a game where if you are interested in it at all, be ready to science and engineer the heck out of things.

A Engineer's Fantasy
Be ready to engineer the heck out of things for this game, I really mean it. You can't just slap down a oxygen creator and have infinite oxygen. You have to quite literally plan out how exactly you are going to engineer building it. Laying out wires and pipes in a efficient manner, checking what materials go to where and how fast, temperature, air pressure, and more! Furnaces can blow out, fuel can ignite in the gas lines, your power grid can suddenly fail due to plugging something new in. Careless playing will end a play-through faster then anything else. It's a game that rewards long-term planning from the moment you step into a new world.

Nothing comes easy in Space
As eluded to before, nothing is simple, but that's the joy. Everything feels like a achievement when you have to go through possibly hours worth of steps just to say, grow a potato or get that furnace to work correctly. To say the difficulty curve is a wall is a understatement, it's a gosh darn cliff the size of the Olympus Mons, especially if you are not engineer inclined. The tutorials seriously help, but some things are never explicitly told to you, and here are some of those things:
  • Ice melts when exposed to any kind of heat, even just sunlight hitting it can make it melt! Keep your ice cold and in somewhere dark (simply protected from the sun will do on worlds that have no atmosphere).
  • Pipes will heat or cool things around them, including the air. You can fry or freeze yourself if you pump in too cold or too hot gas or liquid. Properly heat or cool your liquids to prevent this!
  • Anything taking liquid/gas fuel will use the same kind: 1 Part Oxygen, 2 Part Volatiles (considered H2 by the game, but this is not quite true IRL). This mixture is EXTREMELY EXPLOSIVE and will go off without warning. DO NOT KEEP A LARGE STOCKPILE OF IT AROUND. Make it on demand when needed.
  • Try not to overpressurize your station. You can blow out windows quite easily if not careful. Staying around 100kPa (100 KilaPAscals) of air pressure is perfectly safe.
  • Do not, under and circumstance, take off your spacesuit. Not even in a safe area. You can take off your helmet, but if things depressurize and you're not wearing a suit, you'll pretty much instantly die due to not being able to react fast enough.

Early Access means Surprise Mechanics
This is a early access game, and as such there is bugs, glitches, and other shenanagins to happen. I have been able to see through terrain polygons while mining and even had a fun glitch where my character got stuck in the falling animation (not sure how). While I have never personally crash, crashes can happen. Save frequent and save often, and don't trust the autosave function. It works most of the time, but sometimes saves in the WORST spot. Save after any major achievement always.

Rating: 8.5/10
If you love space, engineering, and sciencing the heck out of things, you'll fall right in love with this game. If you have ever played Space Station 13, you'll feel right at home as some of the mechanics (atmospherics, electricity) feel right from it. But you need lots of patience and foresight to play it, and very long play sessions.

Survival sandbox, once needs are met, there are loose goals to pursue or ignore as you want. The upgrade paths enjoyable, providing more and more automation as you advance in what and how you make items. Inventory management needs to be treated like a mini-game, as it is a challenge that can add to the game if given the right mentality. The challenge of only being able to have 2 items in your hands and needing to swap out items emulates the difficulty someone would have performing tasks in space wearing a space suit. The developers are still providing regular improvements to the game and balancing out items, even throwing out ideas that do not work or are over powered, which while might be frustrating to some, improves the game overall for the final version. If you enjoy first person builder games with survival against the environments, but not having creatures you need to fight off, this is certainly worth a try.

This game is for problem solvers

It is alot of fun and technical as hell but the sense of accomplishment
you get when your system works is a nice pay off.

I would recomend this for people with a love of building and systems design

Still need to look into the multiplayer but I think it would make the game beter

I think it is a great game if you like this space survival like games. It's graphics aren't amazing, but the way they did the low poly stuff it's great, making the graphics quite good, even though it doesn't have a low of polygons. The game, right now, isn't quite optimized, because when you have a good stable base, it starts having a little trouble keeping all of the fps, but if you have a good computer, you'll be able to create a big funcional base without losing a lot of fps.

If you're looking at the reviews, you already know what kind of a game Stationeers is. And if you have that itch, absolutely get it.

First up, fit and finish. The game is extremely polished for an in-development game. I've never crashed a single time. There are still some bugs with collision and physics, and don't rely on the autosave- an airlock may jam if you load a save in the middle of it cycling, for example. But otherwise, the experience is smooth.

On to the mechanics- and this game is all about the mechanics. This is a game that, while somewhat obtuse in many ways, is honestly extremely fair. Every system is complex but understandable, punishing but fair. If something went wrong, chances are it's you who neglected to consider something, or plain forgot about it. Anything is possible with the proper planning and some creativity. Planning mostly, though.

The main systems to consider are power, temperature, atmosphere, and food. Each of these has to be carefully managed, but all of them eventually become sustainable with the right infrastructure in place.

The planets themselves are set up so that they put varying amounts of stress on each system. Mars, for example, has a CO2-heavy atmosphere, which makes starting a farm easy, and stays within a relatively comfortable temperature range. The Moon has no atmosphere, but solar power is plentiful and easy to optimize. Europa is freezing and has little solar energy, putting massive strain on batteries. Vulcan is a blasted hellscape with punishing temperatures that will literally melt the things out of your hands- ask me how I know.

But this lets you learn through trial and error, while never feeling that you're thrown into something too deep without adequate preparation. Learning the ropes on Mars, setting up an airtight base on the Moon, before optimizing power production and usage on Europa, then finally attempting Vulcan.

Speaking of Vulcan, here's how my experience went:

--- Vulcan, attempt 1
Day 1: This isn't too bad
Day 1: Arc welder melts in my hands
Day 1: I can't weld up a tool manufactory to make another

--- Vulcan, attempt 2
Day 1: Remember to stow away the welder once I'm done
Day 3: Where's my mining drill gone?
Day 3: What's up with this weird solar angle anyway?
Day 4: Accidentally dropped battery, cooked alive inside suit

--- Vulcan, attempt 3
Day 1: Don't put anything important in hands unless it's at night
Day 2: Mine with the drill only at night, pickaxe in the day because it doesn't melt
Day 4: Things are going well, airtight base coming along nicely
Day 6: Oxygen tank heats up, reaches 10MPa and explodes, taking out the entire lander with it
Day 6: Confirm previous findings that humans cannot breathe CO2

10/10 would reattempt to colonize hellscape.

Space is hard. I lit all the air in my base on fire. I blew out many windows. An airlock configuration oversight explosively decompressed me and my supplies out to the horizon. I've killed my plants many times. Finally a catastrophic oversight in a furnace left a crater where I had been standing. This is great!

I bought Space engineers and felt like it was a ship building experience with very basic systems and lacked any complexity that you would have in space, I bought elite dangerous but that turned out to be an arcade space game, was their nothing out there that could give the problems and complex nature of space ship and base buildings with detailed management of systems and subsystems. And then....... stationeers came along, it has the complex ship and base building with many systems to managed with heat cold power all there along with why is my base filled with H2 what is that? at least I have o2 to breath, never mind lets keep building this wall now were is my welder, Kaboom oh well I did have a base. ( got to make a fire extinguisher some time )And now I know H2 can be used as a fuel when I rebuild my base well I wasn't expecting to get home to earth any time soon. CONTROLSImportant subject here, many new users have said the controls are as complex as the game itself but I would say like any new experience it is some thing you adapt to and learn in a very short space of time and it shouldn't stop you from experiencing such a great game. Most games have 6-10 tool belt at the bottom of the screen this uses just your left and right hand which is more than what you need.I'd recommend stationeers for those who enjoy complex systems and management.

It really need some major optimization.
I'm down to 6fps at some points in a major base on a i7-6850K at 3.8GHz, 24GB(2667MHz), 2xSSD and 1070GTX(8GB)

That is not a recommendable game experience...

If you are willing to put the time in to learn, this game is extremely gratifying. It's similar to space engineers only on steroids. Pressure, atmosphere, electrical charge based on wire type, different power requirements to smelt early ore based on temperature, the list goes on.

I come from an era of the 80s and 90s when games used to be hard. Using the Wiki in conjunction with some practical logic, this game is fun and exciting. Getting past the first few days on just battery chargers, a solar panel, and solid fuel generator was a task in itself. Knowing what I know now, if I start over on the Moon again, I will be able to catapult further quicker.

Side note, turn down food needs to near zero until you get your bearings. I managed to figure the very very basics in about 3 hours with no YouTube and just a wiki and good ol brainpower. If I can do it, anyone can. I'd assume multiplayer would be great too, but problem is, its a niche game and I doubt anyone on my list would want to play with me and get the experience down.

I'd say if you don't mind learning, getting rewards for success and body slammed for failure, this game is for you. Dying isn't the end of the world and its easy to get back up and running. If Kerbal Space Program was up your alley, this will be too. I highly recommend this game, just be prepared to learn.

I highly recommend this game. Best suited for players that enjoyed Subnautica, 7 Days to Die, and or Rust. If you're a long time Minecraft scrub this game may be pretty difficult for you starting out (the wiki is your lifeline regardless of heritage). If the only survival game you've ever played is DayZ, you're going to have a hard time because of the hefty learning curve. The UI/HUD tutorial is about the only one worth your while. The rest of the game is better figured out on the wiki or on youtube. At time of writing this review i've invested 42hrs into the game and I will have a hard time going back to other survival games I've played. Still some rando glitches here and there but its early access and pretty good for early access!

This game is amazing. Not at all Space Engineers, More Technical, Sciency and Engineering without just a grind. Still getting into it but it is really a survival on other planet game. Have to pay attention to power levels, gas levels of many different gases, temperature, has logic circuit and chips built in, can do mini control systems.

I was hesitant to get it originally, got it on special. Now after playing I would have happily paid full price ages ago. Suggest if your even slightly interested watch a you tube vid on it and you will see what I mean. Thanks for an amazing game!

Steep learning curve, and the controls seem janky at first, but you get used to them. After 27 hours in, I can say I finally figured out how to wire everything without burning out wires, and also how to refill my oxygen. From what I gather, there isn't a ton to do in the game, but I hope to see great things in the future for it.

Porting Space Station 13's complex atmospherics and systems to 3d is an admirable goal.

Porting arguably the worst part of Space Station 13, it's clunky, janky interface, is not.

Somehow managing to make it worse, making the simplest of interactions an arduous task of hand swapping, selection switching, rotation pitching, material grabbing, and object turn-onning is a bold choice, and one I don't have the stomach for. I bailed before even completing the increasingly miserable tutorial.

I was an aircraft engineer and messed with all that is mechanical on aircraft, structure, fuel, hydraulic systems, controls, engines etc. I love messing with systems and solving their problems and because of the different systems and its complexity I should love this game - but I don't.

I want to love this game, its very satisfying getting a solar array to track the sun automatically for the time, getting atmosphere control to work etc Its just satisfying to do these things.

But why oh why is tool utilization so infuriatingly tedious; when doing a job on an aircraft, I would make sure I had the right tools and parts before I start and then just get on with the task in hand. There is no sense of this in game, but there could be.

The current system is cumbersome and annoying, why not use the tried and trusted method of so many games of selecting the tool from whatever is in the quickslots (i.e. toolbelt) with say keys 1-8 and allow the player to say weld when the welding tool is selected with the required materials contained in the backpack, instead of this place tool in one hand, place material in other hand construct a bit, replace tool with another tool in one hand , replace material with another material in the other hand, construct a bit more, replace tool with another... and on it goes, why? It just drags this game down and kills the enjoyment.

Please quick slot the tools and allow work to be done so long as the correct materials are carried by the player and get rid of this unnecessary over pedantic use of trivial steps that mar an otherwise great game.

Pros: Fantastic level of complexity that keeps that feeling of early game exploration of features going for a long time.
Cons: Wish there were more threats to the player not necessarily monsters but natural disasters, solar eclipses, meteor strikes, something that will cause a problem for the player that they will have to solve creatively and make this not so cookie-cutter each game

What may be an interesting experience for the engineering-oriented player is buried beneath a tedium of menus and commands to carry out the simplest of tasks. Interacting with the world is an unpleasant repetition of dragging and dropping many different tools and items into one of two inventory slots representing your hands. Every tool to be used must be dragged out of a menu, dropped into one of your hands, that hand selected, right-click to activate, left-click to place, and on and on. There are 7 or so tools despite the fact that each one performs essentially the same action, that being clicking on something in the world and watching a progress bar fill up over a second or two.

I would love to return to this game in the future and give it a positive review, but for now, it fails at the basic level of usability.

OMG, so much yes.
This is what space engineers wanted to be.
Its got it all, explosive decompression because you have an H2, O2 mixed atmosphere and a solar flare shorted a cable that ignited the mix and now there is a 20 meter crater... All the way to the seriously not that difficult in real life solar tracking and the hilarious amount of tools they force you to use for no reason what so ever... Seriously its my biggest gripe with this game. I feel like the devs are trolling me with all the tools i need to build a freaking wall....
I highly recommend this game if your an engineer or have a brain. If you are not or dont, then your going to hurt yourself with the amazing complexity that your creations will need.

This is a fun game, but still VERY early Access. If you're looking for completely baked - well, maybe wait a bit. It's like a much less fantasy driven SATISFACTORY, with a strong Kerbel Flavor. I like it. I'm frustrated as hell at times by it. The Wiki helps a lot, but the wiki is ALSO not done. At the very least, Follow this title and check down the line for more completed versions - or get it now and help fund those versions while you helplessly watch your cooler have a physics bug and go sailing off into the distance.

This isn't a game for your average casual player. You don't get thrown into a world that's easily survivable.

It however is a great game for those who want the ability to do a ton of things and manage a ton of different things. Automating stuff is a challenge. Getting air just right is a challenge. Even getting solar to work for an extended period of the day can be a challenge.

It's one of those games where you can do things simple or you can do them with perfection. Having a solar array that can track the sun is a good feeling.

Almost as complex as actually building a station on a planet or in space. If you want math. Engineering. Chemistry. Logic programming lite or advanced. This beast of a simulator has it. I would say its a game but it is closer to a simulator (don't let the cartoon-y player graphics fool you) this sim/game will chew you up, blow your welder up, and steal your entire afternoon as you try to figure out how to keep cool in a beyond boiling environment ( just for instance as there are beyond cold environments and even the gentle moon(for kids and old people))

Spoiler alert run pipes with radiators through a totally vacuum downed room. Has to be 0.00kPa and it will bleed heat out of the pipes and into the vacuum and out into wherever you pump it. This is vital on Vulcan or Mercury or anywhere where heat creeps in and tries to cook you and your suit and your batteries in your tools on your toolbelt! So again this game/sim has complexity in spades and will not pull punches to teach you stoichiometry gently. You will be smart or you will be respawning a fair amount to learn.

Tutorial is full of errors. ie: Get toolbelt, Equip mining drill?????????? There isn't a mining drill on the toolbelt, they are all construction/deconstruction tools.

No real way to figure out what to do and how to do it. You have no tips to show how to craft, how to use tools or anything. You are left on your own to figure it all out for yourself. Good luck doing that before you die from lack of oxygen.

A little complicated at first, but fun after you know what you're doing.

If you want a game that will induce stress and frustration, this is it. If you want a game that is fun, this is not it.

This game has potential. Potential that is not being tapped properly and in timely manner.

The game executes a very unique idea, based off of SpaceStation13. The notion of atmospheric movement, gas pressure and temperature, electricity management, gathering resources and building a functional base. These are the basic concepts of the game that will give every player a daily dose of creative challenges.

HOWEVER!...

As noticed, the game is in early access. That means bugs; LOTS of bugs. Some of them are years-old. Some of them are logic-defying. There are even game-breaking ones. The development is slow-paced and it takes months to see a major update; and the minor ones are really minor.

The game itself is brilliant and I encourage you to try it just for its concept and challenges. But I warn you that a decline in development activity is noticeable and I've seen enough early access games to say that if that continues - the game will never be finished.

You need power for your machines, so you build and connect some solar panels. In a different game that's probably the end of it, but not in Stationeers. You've built your solar panels, but why aren't they making any power? Oh, they aren't pointing at the sun. You take out your wrench and manually aim the solar panel towards the sun, great, but.... now the sun has moved, and they've stopped making power again. If you want these solar panels to work, you'll have to build a logic system to determine the angle of the sun and move them accordingly, or maybe you'd rather write your own code and program an IC to do the work with the in-game MIPS compiler.

That is Stationeers, and that description can be applied to every system in the game. If you want the convenience of automation, you'll have to build it yourself and figure out the steps on your own. You can look up a tutorial, or you can experiment with the tools in the game to discover what works and what doesn't.

This is a game about building everything from the ground up, the hard way. There is mining and crafting, but this is ultimately a game about systems management. Does the idea of having to build your own airlock using an array of pipes and sensors appeal to you? Do you want to create your own oxygen recycling system for your base to keep your friends from suffocating on strange mystery gas? Do you want to panic as you accidentally inject super-heated gas into your base, cooking your friends as they desperately try to figure out the button combination that will put their suits back on?

This is that game.

It's boring. And it does not help that a tutorial needs a tutorial (I had to google to figure out how to finish it). And some default key-bindings are of the mental variety most notably - pressing `i` opens you helmet in deep space. From the dawn of PC gaming the letter `i` on the keyboard was always exclusively mapped to OPENING INVENTORY. Granted you can change it but it did not help in the orientation period of this game.

I say - wait for stable and polished version.
