SteamWorld Dig 2 nimmt dich mit auf ein Bergbauabenteuer – ein Plattformer im Stil von Metroidvania-Actionspielen.

Als eine alte Handelsstadt von mysteriösen Erdbeben heimgesucht wird, liegt es an einem einzelnen Steambot und ihrer ungleichen Begleitung, die tief unter der Erde lauernden Schrecken aufzudecken.

Grabe dich durch den Untergrund und erkunde fantastische Welten voller Schätze, Geheimnisse und Fallen. Bekämpfe gefährliche Gegner an jeder Ecke der gewundenen Gänge der Unterwelt, darunter schattenhafte Kreaturen und die ruhelosen Überreste einer uralten elektrischen Bedrohung.

Spaßiges Metroidvania in der charmanten SteamWorld. Als kleiner Dampfbot buddelt Ihr euch abermals durch das Erdreich und versucht diesmal euren verschollenen Kumpel zu finden.
Das Spiel verbessert dabei das schon gute Spielprinzip aus dem ersten Teil an den richtigen Stellen und bietet damit einen simplen Spielehappen für zwischendurch.

Wer den ersten Teil mag, kann mit der Fortsetzung absolut nichts falsch machen. Gleiches Artwork, gleiche Spielmechanik. SteamWorldDig 1&2 sind Metroidvanian, d.h Mit neuen Fertigkeiten kann man an bekannte Orte zurückkehren und bestimmte Hindernisse aus dem Weg räumen oder überwinden an denen man vorher nicht weiterkam. Zocken mit X-Box Controller funzt einwandfrei. Entspanntes Spiel mit ganz viel bunt^^

Si le premier opus manquait un peu d'ambition, sa suite rajoute tout ce qu'il fallait tout en corrigeant les petits défauts de jouabilité. C'est un très bon metroidvania plus basé sur l'exploration que les combats, bien rythmé et assez original dans sa proposition.

Every SteamWorld game I have played has been a delight. If you enjoyed SteamWorld Dig 1, you will enjoy this. If you haven't yet played SteamWorld Dig 1, I'd say to go do that because that's also a good game. Definitely grab these if you see them on sale, you won't be disappointed. Fun platforming and exploration.

I've not finished the game yet (came close last time), but you can probably tell from my hours that I've restarted this several times - it's that much fun. The complete package is superb, from the art to the music and the characters and especially the Metroidvania gameplay. It's great for casual bursts but it also hooks you in so it's hard to put down.

I played to first game and this one is better, and more complete, in every way.

I'm not much of a metroidvania gamer but I can easily say one of the best metroidvania games i've ever played. I would say top two with Ori and the Will of the Wisps. I purchased the game for free, I had no expectations from the game and saw overwhelmingly positive review and i gave this one a shot and i really liked it. Great map and level design, entertaining digging/selling and upgrading system. Some maps even made me nervous by the atmosphere. The only con is there are no satisfying boss battles in the game but that doesn't change my mind. Totally must play 9/10.

There is just something incredibly cathartic about digging down into the earth and discovering ores, gems, artifacts, secrets and just plain exploring the map. The progression system with upgrades and cogs are well thought out catering to different play styles.

An underrated game with a lot of value.

After years now of disappointing, overrated and frustrating games being recommended on Steam, reviewed highly or simply being the best of a mediocre bunch of recent releases, I always welcome gems (pun intended) like this game.

I stopped playing SteamWorld Dig 2 at about the 3 hour point years ago for reason I forget and recently came back to it and spent another 9 hours completing it. I'm so glad I did.
After the frustrating mess that was The Messenger (which I've also reviewed), It has been refreshing that I have played two similar game (this and Metroid Dread) that have reinvigorated my hope in not only a genre of games, but the lackluster, disappointing games industry as a whole. After The Messenger, I was left feeling disheartened thinking that maybe the problem was me, maybe I just don't like these good games. But no, I have been proven right by these two games that have been a pleasure to play from start to finish.

Steamworld Dig 2 is a sweet, fun and very solid metroidvania with a heavy emphasis on digging your own path in an almost entirely filled map. You might think that this could get boring but the game always finds a way to stay interesting by doing things like:
- Introducing new enemies that may also affect the environment
- Having resource or gem placement that asks the player to deviate from their path and be creative in their tunnel planning.
- New hazards that often can be tackled with basic gear or traversed more efficiently with better gear.
- Challenge rooms that adds linear puzzles or platforming challenges to add variety to a game that has a simplistic core gameplay loop of digging and mining resources.
- Having upgrades with attainable prices that shake up how the player tackles certain obstacles.
- Unique locations with completely unique themes and challenges of their own
- Secrets to find all over. Many that are actually useful and rewarding to the player.
- Fun and lovable characters, including your player character who encapsulates the brave, young, slightly naive yet resourceful adventurer. I believe her character design and presentation was perfect for this kind of game that focuses so much on adventure and discovery.

These are what I feel are the games strongest features. Although I didn't think the story was particularly special, I think that the characters were interesting and had very believable and comedic writing. I'm still not entirely sure how I feel about the ending, If it links to the larger SteamWorld universe I would be very interesting. But as a story for a metroidvania that's focus is strong, varied gameplay it was a decent story.

When Did I Stop Playing?
Completed, I'm also likely to go back for all of the secrets as I wanted to get my thoughts written down while they were fresh in my mind. Since I didn't finish the first one, I'm tempted to go back and finish that as the stories are directly linked.

Rating - 9/10
A very strong metroidvania with a unique and charming setting that kept me invested until the end. The game does a great job of making you feel like a young, headstrong adventurer with the visuals, music, freedom and challenge that it offers. As a whole it was a great package overall and has actually spurred me on to play more of the SteamWorld series.

This game has cemented itself as one of my favourite metroidvania/platformers not only because it is great in it's own right. But more importantly for me personally because it has shown me that there are games out there that are worth my time. In the torrents of biased and clueless reviews (Steam included), toxic communities that are overprotective of their mediocre games and simply straight up bad games that get a pass because they don't literally steal the players money or hurt them physically, there are gems out there that deserve the praise along with their developers who cared and were skilled enough to release a finished, polished package that for some reason is rare these days.

This is one of those games.

nearly a perfecto.

A Steampunk Western, it allows you to dig into subterranean world and enjoy fantasy adventure. With pickaxe and other upcoming gears, you can almost reach anywhere, and how to make it--use hook-shot? fly with a easily-overheat jet engine or just dig straight down, it is all up to you.

Alongside main story and quests, rich content offers artifacts collection, caves of puzzle(some of them pretty hard), upgradable gears and cog mods that unlock amazing capacility. Going through story cost me 6 hours, and it took another 20+ to get all of them and steam achievements, except that the designing-for-masochist ultimate trail really frustrated me.

Just be honest, SteamWorld Dig 2 is a pretty good work.

I really loved first game so I wanted to play this too and I am very happy that this game is very good too. Gameplay is improved from first and is even more fun. There is many cool robot designs and there's lots fun to have here. Graphics is nice and simple I really like this style. Music is good too.

I really liked SteamWorld Dig 2! This game improves on the first SteamWorld Dig's Metroidvania formula of digging for gems that you sell for money to upgrade your character, while also having fun exploration and collecting new abilities scattered around the world. You play as Dot as you journey and dig though the underground mines to try and find Rusty, the protagonist of the first game. The story is lighthearted and humorous and expanded on the world building started in the original SteamWorld Dig. Overall, even if you haven't played the first game, I would recommend this if you are a fan of Metroidvania games, as it is one of the better ones I have played in a while.

It surprisingly really fun. Artstyle really amazing, with countryside theme and music. Altho it pretty short, but it has good replayability. And you can backtrack anything you missed from your save.

Steamworld dig 1 was a good at the thing that she was trying to do a short metroidvania digging game but steamworld dig 2 she just make every thing better
From the digging it self into the world desgining
and unlike steamworld dig 1 the ores now are not randomizer
Now they placed well by the devolpers
There isn't so many bosses but its ok since its not the main thing that the game focusing at and there's a lot of caves now unlike steamworld dig 1
At the end i think steamworld dig 2 is a great 2d platforming puzzlnig metroidvania game

For anyone who is thinking between buying SteamWorld Dig 1 and SteamWorld Dig 2, I recommend SteamWorld Dig 1 as it is the introduction to the SteamWorld Universe!
SteamWorld Dig I is VERY GOOD! Finished TODAY during digestion after lunch.
The game is not very long, but it does distribute ADVANCE and UPGRADES surgically.
Only in the end I managed to ADD all the hero upgrades!

I may have a fairly uncommon obsession with games that just keep taking you further underground, just to get that out of the way.
Either way, this game is so pretty, handles so well, is so intuitive and yet challenging when it needs to be.
Every block seems like a labor of love. I wish there were more of it.

Pretty awesome little mining platformer. Exploration is lots of fun. There are plenty of things to unlock and upgrade. The puzzles are well done and provide a nice little challenge. No major bugs and controls feel solid. There's a decent story mode to it but you'll likely get lost in the digging and exploration. Great Metroidvania!

SteamWorld Dig 2, as obvious as it may seem, is a sequel to SteamWorld Dig.
Just a great platformer.
2D graphics at the highest level. Great storyline, beautiful locations.
In general, I myself am satisfied and the children liked it, a big plus is that the game supports a joystick..

Fun digging-adventuring game. The quick travel places and extra tools come up at a nice pace and kept annoyance away.
Story was fun and the almost five-year-old ended up being pretty invested in following next to me :D

I don't think I've ever played a game that is this consistently fun. It's short, but it doesn't overstay its welcome. It's not very difficult, but it doesn't feel too easy. The gameplay never gets stale because it adds new things often enough to keep it engaging. I really never got frustrated or angry or bored playing this game, and I even went and got all the collectables and did a casual speedrun.

This game is just good, lighthearted fun for its whole duration. It's nothing spectacular or groundbreaking, but it doesn't need to be.

What I liked:

Sequel done right: The original SteamWorld Dig is an enjoyable game but this sequel does everything better than its predecessor. There is so much more variety and content. And everything is of a higher quality.

Going “Metroid-vania”: Games where you unlock skills that let you look at previously explored areas in a new perspective like Metroid and Castlevania are always fun when well done. And SteamWorld Dig 2 does it well. At the start of the game you feel helpless and inefficient and at the end you feel like a god with all the improvements you picked up.

Puzzle areas: Most of the little mini dungeons that have small contained puzzles in them are interesting and well done. They are nice intermissions from the normal gameplay.

Horror(?) part: There is a very tense mandatory mini dungeon in the game that surprised me and turned the game briefly in something more akin to a horror game. I liked it a lot but I can imagine that some might not be that amused by it.

What I didn’t like:

Boss fight specific mechanics: During the last boss fight there is a mechanic that is taught to you shortly before you enter it’s arena. That there was a reminder from Fen on what to do gives me the impression that I was not the only one that found it confusing.

Some puzzle areas: Not all puzzles were a success or they felt like a one-and-done deal. An example is the looping screen dungeon.

Why others should try it:

If you are in the mood for an interesting Metroidvania with the twist of digging your way through the levels. I didn’t think it was necessary to have played the first game for the story. But you could. The first game doesn’t take too long to complete.

Steam world dig 2 is even better than the first one.

the gameplay is new and improved, there are new and cool tools to try out, it has improved graphics and feels like a solid metroidvania,
and all that while keeping the main aspect of the game: miningggg shiny rockkk

and tbh i am amazed by how many little easter eggs to various other amazing games you can find in this game, e.g the artifacts that you find along the way or just little details in the world that are really fun to discover.
on top of that i am amazed by how well this game connects steam world dig and steam world heist in terms of lore.
and the biggest aspect for me is the soundtrack. the OST of this game is beyond beautiful. on one hand you got tracks like the main theme of el machino that just slapp and on the other hand you have some beautiful melodies like in yarrow.

overall its def an 11/10 and i would recommend it to everyone, especially if you have played the other steamworld games! (if you havent played them, play them as well, they are all amazing)

Play as a robot Dorothy in a quest to save your long lost friend Rusty. You arrive at desert town with dire situation. Other townfolks robots needs your saving to escape this growing danger to be exploded into thousand pieces. Something is not right and you need to dig deep deep into a dark underground layer filled with tombs and secrets with many paths that leads you back at earth surface. Using your trusty pinaxe with many gadgets that will be presented you in later game that you can be upgraded. From fast charged hard rock crusher to a bomb bazooka. In your journey you will not be alone cause flamie Fen will light your path when the darkness shroud your eyes.
This game reminded me of good old classic DigDug style play. This is much more evolved and tweaked out version filled with greatness.

Really cute game, the gameplay is fun, but if you have epilepsy or are photosensitive, please, be careful whilst playing this game. Despite I decreased the gamma, the game still burns my eyes, especially, in El Machino.

Long story short, if you enjoy mining games like Terraria, then you should give it a try!

this game is amazing, and fun!
i haven't actually spent 40 hrs actively playing, but game save says at least 12! and i haven't completed yet.
story is great, and its the first game i've played in a while with a story that i couldn't stop playing! <3

edit:
just completed the game and it truly was a wonderful amazing ride!
i didn't get all the secret things (but the game does let you get them again after you complete the story so that's kinda cool!)

Like the first game, Steamworld Dig 2 is a semi-relaxing game where you dig. There's a story - a continuation of the Steamworld saga, and explains what happens after the first game and before Steamworld Heist. So key gameplay elements: dig, explore, jump a lot, fall a lot kill some monsters, find upgrades, and do some puzzles. In typical game fashion there are areas that can't be reached (or at least not obviously) without those upgrades. All the while you're listening to some very good music (though it's the type of game where you could put your own and not miss out on the game's atmosphere - except in a few key areas/scenes).

If you liked the first game, and want to spend a few nights relaxing on it I highly recommend.

A well-crafted mining metroidvania-style game. The puzzles are competently designed and the various mechanics are fun to learn. The progression through the different areas and challenge/item caves feels natural and it is very satisfying when you finally complete a cave.

It is a game that I found myself coming back to and wanting to explore further through to the end (though there are still secrets I didn't find and challenging modes I could have tried during my first play-through of the story).

All in all, it is a good game. I was very fortunate to come across a free promotion for it on Steam, though it was on my wishlist to try for some time.

Floaty controls made this completely unplayable. 11 minutes into exploring, the frustration hit a point where I had no desire to keep attempting to land on the first boss.

Raz a young boy endowed with mental abilities was first seen in the game Psychonaut in 2005 and then we saw him in other series of video games. what game is it the SteamWorld Dig 2? Of course I got it because it was free. However, I did not expect it to be *this* good, I'm hooked. Already 4 hours in nonstop since I got it. I don't usually play this kind of games, but this one kept me going. I like the blue arrow pointing me where to go, it's the kind of game I want to relax and have fun with. I hear it's better than the first one, although after I finish this one I'll surely grab the other too. Highly recommended, and we've got native Linux support too! Bravo, devs!

definite improvement from the first game, story is more fleshed out. soundtrack was okay, nothing special. Gameplay was good and puzzle caves were fun to figure out/look for the secret.
Liked the look of different levels, good amount of teleports near important things.

It is a good game, but very very short. If you're okay with a short game, this is definitely a fun product and well polished. I enjoyed my time in it. Just note that I finished the main story line in about 5 hour (I didn't play to be a completionist i.e. get all the secrets and achievements, which I think could have increase the length by another 5ish?)

If you're looking for a short and sweet game, this is worth your while!

I'm not recommending this game because $20 for a 4 year old 5 hour long game was not worth my money, personally. But, if you prefer quality over quantity and have money to spend, it is totally a reasonable purchase. No hate towards the developers or anything! It's a clean product.

I greatly disliked the gameplay in the first Steamworld Dig game, and delayed purchasing its sequel for a long time, until I obtained it at a really deep discount (~$4.59 or so), my curiosity still getting the better of me, as is all too often the case. However, I just finished playing through this game, and had a really nice time with it. Anyone going for 100% achievements might have a slightly rough time of it, but anyone just wanting to get all the upgrades and beat the game should have a pretty nice time of things.

Steamworld Dig 2's music was quite nice, with each subterranean region having its own music that fit well, and each region also had a distinct look. As with the first game, there are little caves you can dip into with secrets to be uncovered which are very rewarding. The power-ups were a lot of fun, and most of them felt pretty empowering. Some of the little modifications you can spend cogs on (freely insert and extract them to try out different ones) even minimize issues I had with the first game, such as the lantern light dying too quickly. Sure, that's a problem very early on in Steamworld Dig 2, but it's quickly dealt with, and eventually it will never be a problem again.

Narratively, there's a lot more plot in this game compared to the first one, though I will say that it isn't story-heavy at all. The gameplay is the core of this game, and I really had a fair bit of fun with this one. I hated my time with the first Steamworld Dig, but I think I might play Steamworld Dig 2 again someday, because it was a pleasant experience and an all-around enjoyable game for me which compelled me to finish it. Heck, I stayed up an extra hour just to finish up and write this recommendation, too. If you enjoyed the first game, it's quite likely you'll enjoy this one, and if the first game's gameplay wasn't your cup of tea, Steamworld Dig 2's little improvements here and there might be enough to make you like it, as was the case for me. This game is amazing, much like the previous one. My only issue is that there is a tiny graphics glitch when in full screen, but when I take it out of full screen, and maximise the size, it stops glitching. 4.5 out of 5 stars!

An amazing game that takes what worked in the first game and polishes it to near perfection. It has fun plottwists, insanely responsive controls and snappy and satisfying gameplay. The visuals looks crisp and for a completionist the game has many collectibles and challenges to overcome.

Short and sweet. A well polished and unique metroidvania. Combat is there, but takes a back seat for exploration, and digging... The latter which provides you money and resources. Very good ability unlocks, upgrades, and secrets. Kept me playing for a good solid 9hrs of gameplay with only 50% of the map discovered. Also contains some decent little puzzles inside rooms as well as a couple boss fights that are dealt with more via your abilities than direct combat. Highly recommended.

2020 Speedy Review Cleanup

I loved the original SteamWorld Dig, and I had fun in this one too. It's simple action and platforming that doesn't outstay its welcome. You keep unlocking gadgets along the way, the areas change, and you feel like you're progressing.

One thing I believe is that the characters in the first game were better, though. I preferred the silent Rusty and his interactions with Dot and the handful of bots in the smaller country town. There's a lot more characters in this game, but I felt less connected to them, though I think Dot and Fen work well.

There's not a lot more I can say that wasn't already said in my review of the original game. This game is more of that with newer enemies, larger action pieces, and more interesting collectibles/secrets.

If you have fun with action platformers, I'd suggest this one. There might be a slow start when you build up your equipment, but after some upgrades, you'll be flying through.

It's alright, but very short for the price. The story is just serviceable. It does the job but it's not particularly remarkable. (it kind of fell flat on its face during the ending imo)

The art is fine and the music is great, probably the best part of the game. The 'puzzles' were insultingly easy and it wasn't challenging at any point except for the final boss, which is only difficult because of frustratingly bad combat mechanics.

There are a ton of secrets in the map and upgrades to unlock, although after a certain point there's really no incentive to get any of them. I found that by the end of the game I had a fully upgraded bag (before maxing out any weapon upgrades) but there was no point because there was no longer any ore left to mine.

The game is really short (5h if you aren't dicking around and don't plan on hunting down all the secrets) and the ending was kind of unsatisfying and left a bad taste in my mouth. Overall it was enjoyable though. Buy it on a sale for 50% or more.

This game is decent, it's basically a steampunk setting where you dig for ores and improve your character to progress. That's about the extent of the depth, the story was interesting. The final boss was a bit of a twist, overall it was enjoyable for just under 20 hours of game play. You could definitely finish it sooner, but I tend to drag out games to squeeze them for all the play value.

Not sure I could recommend the $20 price tag on it, $15 maybe but $10 would be ideal for the depth the game offers.

SteamWorld Dig 2 is a very good game, while not being the longest there is, it definitly makes up for it's length in it's charm, from the music, to the animation and art.
Never ran into any issues with it that weren't because of the machine i was using. That doesn't mean the game is badly optimized, it is very well optomised, playable in all it's glory on any machine.
Overall, highly recommend if you enjoy metroidvanias and/or the old style flash mining games.
Great job, Image & Form games.

Great game. The basic gameplay loop is digging for minerals, which you then spend on upgrades that help you dig deeper and hold more resources. Additionally, the map is peppered with small dungeons that either give you talent points or metroidvania-style upgrades like a hookshot or jumpjets when you finish them. This game is absolutely worth your time.

This is basically an easy metroidvania + terraria.
The mining, combat, and progression is pretty great.
The story is annoyingly predictable, but its not horrible.

I have about 19 hours recorded play time in this only due to leaving it running while I was doing some work in my garage a few times. Most of the game was alright, but the end boss was irritating and no fun and felt very out of place and excessive for an otherwise casual game based on puzzles/exploration/digging/item collection. To the point that I just didn't care to bother with even a second attempt, and once you have collected everything, there is really no replay value at all. Realistically I got about 8ish hours of gameplay time, which was enjoyable, but just not enough for the cost of the game, and that was on sale.

If you see it on sale for under $10, then sure it is maybe worth it, but if I don't get at least an hour of joy per dollar spent, the game is a thumbs down from me.

I don't dig this dig.

Nobody can ever persuade me that its success wan't due to its core gameplay loop being reminiscent of the one of That Block Game That People Still Keep Playing. Because though it's a decent Metroidvania overall, it feels a lot more tedious than its peers. There's not much to explore, the underground where you'll spend most of your time doesn't look particularly beautiful, and the story... Well, there's nothing to say on that front, really. Plus, SteamWorld Dig 2 is very short for its genre. Took me five and a half hours to get to the final boss. Didn't beat it, because I was underequipped, and didn't care to grind more for it, but if I did, it wouldn't take more than two more hours until I was prepared. Which would make it seven and a half hours long.

A solid game, sure, but doesn't deserve all the critical praise it got on release.

And they call it a Mine!

SteamWorld Dig 2 is the sequel to SteamWorld Dig but follows the journey of a different character who is now looking for the main character from the previous game.

The game for the most part plays exactly the same as the previous which is a Motherload style, resource gathering game where you dig into a mine, extract its resources and sell them for upgrades to help you get to the bottom.

The main differences from the previous title are mostly ease of life changes like water no longer draining and combining all the different mines are areas you travel throughout the campaign into one area with all checkpoint zones accessible via the top instead of only one at any moment.

As for upgrades there are a bunch and purchasing items no longer just gives a standard increase but unlocks specific applies that you need to prioritize as they can only be enabled with upgrade cogs that you must also find.

There’s lots of new mini dungeons and much harder puzzles, lots of going back to areas with new upgrades to complete areas or collect artifacts, a challenging end game boss all topped off with better graphics makes for an enjoyable experience for anyone who likes these type of resource mining type games such as Motherload or Terraria.

I played the first Steamworld Dig game on the DS a very long time ago. I probably finished the game twice, since it was a good time.

This game does what I expected from sequels when I was a kid: You take the base game mechanics and improve on them, providing more content and more options for the player. This game was a joy to play though.

A big step up from the first SteamWorld Dig, which was already a very fun game. Unlike its predecessor, which had a randomly generated world (except the puzzle rooms), this game has a huge, fully designed game world, filled with enemy encounters, puzzles, and lots of secrets. The game follows the familiar formula of digging out treasure to sell, and earn money to buy upgrades, which enables you to dig deeper and explore new areas. Some upgrades are locked away behind difficult challenges, and others require collectible cogs, which can be distributed freely for a bit of customization to your gameplay.

The story ties into the SteamWorld universe, and follows the side-character Dorothy from the previous SteamWorld Dig game. It might therefore be a good idea to have played the first game, if you want to dig into the lore of the games. However, I think the game can be enjoyed on its own as well, since I enjoyed the story a lot without remembering much of the first game.

As usual, the SteamWorld games work great on Linux, and I hope to see another Dig game, as these are my favorites of the SteamWorld series.

Excuse the pun but there is so much 'depth' to this game it's amazing! The developers took everything that was good about the first instalment and threw out the bad, eg having to buy health, the silly little ladders and the seemingly constant return to the surface every few minutes because your lamp has run out, etc. All in all a much better game and it makes going back to SwD 1 very unappealing.

Fun game, similar to Steamworld Dig 1.
The character grows stronger over time, gets cool abilities. Fighting isn't hard. Music and sound effects are OK.
Some parts seem to be added just for inflating play time for dedicated players (some achievements and trials).

Overall: simple, fun, polished game. Easy to beat, hard to complete (100% achievements).

A game that rewards you for being observant and curious. Gameplay can be pretty relaxed, or you can challenge yourself with special modifiers and go for high rankings. Most upgrades seem like they serve a useful purpose. Other things like the grenade launcher seem underused, but it doesn't ruin the experience. Didn't encounter any bugs during my playthrough.

Steamworld Dig 2, the successor to one of the most awesome indie games of the last couple of years makes everything better than its predecessor. Better handling, higher difficulty, more biomes, some puzzles, boss fights, more dialogue, more whacky characters, more distinguished art design and a polish of the already great mechanics of the original game.

Steamworld Dig 2 has a truly great flow when it comes to whacking away rocks and dirt while collecting all the shinies.

Content wise it can a very long or a very short game, depending on playstyle, but either case it is absolutely worth its asking price. While there's no true reason to replay this apart from challenge achievements, it remains a lot of fun even in subsequent playthroughs.

If you played and enjoyed SteamWorld Dig 1, then this 2nd game is a no-brainer. The addicting gameplay loop of spelunking for resources, secrets and upgrades had me unable to put my controller down. I also enjoyed the first one. This one was an upgrade with cool and useful new power-ups, and a dispensing of some of the more monotonous bits of the first game. For example, now when you return to surface, your hearts and water are automatically restored. There is an upgrade that makes it so your light never goes out. And so on. After my first pass, I was able to find 80% of the secrets according to the stats at the end of the game. A good game that's been improved upon. Probably not a ton of replayability, but worth it for a well-crafted experience.

I had the original Steaworld Dig since it came out and haven't played it since. I picked this one up recently after my PC died and could only game on a laptop with no 3D card. I replayed the original Steamworld and then this one immediately after. The storyline was a near perfect cross over and this game did a great job keeping everything good from the last game and improving on the bad. A few things of note, though!

In the original game water puddles in the mines were limited, so you couldn't return to an old puddle for water until you returned to town. This was removed in this game but I found it didn't need to be. I could count on 1 hand how many times i returned to the same puddle ever. The visual of draining the puddle I think was worth keeping. It's a small thing, but I found it noteworthy.

A big change was removing the double jump ability and replacing it with a jetpack/hookshot. The hookshot I was really OK with, but the jetpack felt a bit off. Almost everyplace in the game could be reached with the hookshot and a double jump, so the jetpack made it feel almost too easy. There was only 1 place where the jetpack was truly needed but that was not even 3 minutes of the 12 hours i put into the game. I missed the double jump a lot and over all didn't want the jetpack to replace it. That said it was fun to fly around the maps. And yea, it's needed for the final boss.

Overall the changes made were improvements. The first game has a distinct feeling of being a single mineshaft that travels down down down down, while this game has multiple caves, caverns and mineshafts. I enjoyed the fact that there was more to do here. I actually think I could safely say I'm sad I finished the game. I want to keep exploring with all these upgrades I got for rosie, or at least try to replay as Rusty, which is sadly not an option.

It's a great game. While longer than the original, this is still a short game. It leaves you wanting more... and I hope we get it.

Feels like a very polished version of the first part. Almost all parts of the game have been improved.
If you liked the first one, you will love part 2 :)

Incredible indie game that deserves more recognition, a nice serene game about digging and upgrading your character with a (somewhat) interesting story
