Über das Spiel

Taur is an action-strategy sci-fi game. Inspired by a multitude of games in classic genres such as tower defense, shooter, real-time strategy and more, creating a unique type of gameplay. Created by one-person indie studio Echo Entertainment.

Gameplay

• Prime Cannon: Control the powerful Prime Cannon, equipped with a primary and a secondary weapon that can be fired simultaneously.
• Weapons: Unlock and upgrade different weapons, and bring them to bear at any time on the battlefield.
• Abilities: Unlock multiple, powerful abilities and use them to turn the tide of battle.
• Build: Use the resources gained from secured war zones to expand your Taur defenses by building a variety of auto-turrets, droids, aircraft and more.
• Destruction: Every unit, structure, tree and plant is fully destructible, leading to tactical advantages or disadvantages over the course of a battle as the environment is destroyed.
• Attacks: Plan your defenses for different types of attacks such as full-scale invasions, air raids, tank sieges and infantry skyfall attacks.
• Imperion: Defeat the increasingly massive armies of the warmongering galactic droid empire known as the Imperion.

Campaign
• Control: Prevent the planet of Taurea, home of the Tauron droids, from falling into Imperion hands. Control of the planet will either be gained or lost over time, depending on your success on the battlefield. Should the Imperion gain full control of Taurea, the campaign will be lost.
• War Zones: The Taur can only be deployed to one war zone per day, forcing you to abandon the remaining ones. Abandoned war zones may incur loss of control, and their resources are lost, so choose carefully.
• Resources: Obtain resources by successfully securing war zones. Use them to build new structures, reforge weapons and research new tech.
• Forge: Use the Forge to reshape the quality and damage of your Prime Cannon weapons.
• Research: Unlock new tech to be used in battle.
• Overlord: In order to win the war and end the campaign, you must find a way to defeat the extremely powerful Imperion Overlord in battle.

Fazit: irgendwie keine Langzeit Motivation.

Game is nice and fun, that's true, but lacks heavy of content. There is only one Gamemode, some sort of Campaign with no real story. (Your planet get's invaded, defend it. That's it).

To win, the planetary control must not drop to 0 until you have defeated the final boss. This is indicated by a large bar on the top screen.

Every day, so to speak turn-based, you get a selection of missions from which one can be selected.
Every victory increases planetary control, every defeat reduces it.

These values vary greatly on each mission and should be taken into account since it's not possible to play more than one mission per day. Missions that are not selected are automatically considered lost and will decrease the planetary control.

In addition to planetary control, one or more of 6 possible resources are obtained from a successfully completed mission. These resources are used to expand or upgrade your own defenses.

The missions differ in map type and the battle mode. There are a handful of maps and a total of 4 battle modes, so unfortunately the whole thing gets repetetive quickly.

Final boss will show up first time on day 50 and you won't really be able to beat him then but it's no lose, you just move on to day 51 and keep grinding ressources until you're able to beat that guy.

Unfortunately, this game has too much untapped potential. Researching and upgrading skills and towers doesn't feel rewarding. Some things are totally senseless or just too weak. Therefore, there are hardly any variations and you always use the same setup, which drastically reduces the replay value.

Get it on approx ~50% sale, full price is way too expensive.

Überzeugt euch gerne in meinem LP:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcwebvbGN8A

Its a great game don't get me wrong, but for the price, its not worth it. you'll beat the game in around 7 hours and but its the same thing over and over. i think 4 different mission types and a few different maps. one thing that really annoys me with it, is how many different resources you have to gather for crafting/ upgrading. its a grind to get to some better towers and doesn't scale well with enemies. Without playing your cards right, you'll find yourself in a death loop where you don't have enough power to out-win the enemy

One of my best purchases, no cap, bit pricey but dam second playthough after getting chokeslammed, and we did it on day 75. I would love to see larger enemy variety, like bigger aerial enemies. Possibly even some aerial units for your own use. 9.5/10 highly fuckin recommend

Very boring very fast. Interesting concept and fantastic execution, just falls shy of what would be really replayable. at some point during my first campaign i just wanted it to be over and allow me to do more then just sit there and hope my upgrades were keeping up with the enemy. Get it if you like the style and genre but i wouldnt pay to much for it.

This game is enjoyable, it has a unique concept and is well polished, but I can only really recommend buying this game when its on sale. I did enjoy the time I put into this game but it gives no reason to keep playing once you have killed the final boss, for $25 I was hoping for more.

The story takes about 7-8 hours to get through and is very bare bones. You are put in charge of a new advanced weapon system to defend your planet from the evil robots, that's all the story you get. The game play consists of you choosing 1 of 2 or 3 missions to embark on depending on what resources you need to upgrade your taur defenses. Mini boss missions will be available after a handful of missions and an opportunity to kill the big bad every 50 missions. You control the central tower but everything else is on auto-pilot, so after you have put enough upgrades into your other defenses you can basically sit back and watch while the game plays itself until a more tanky enemy comes along.

The game is so amazing. Its the kind of game that you buy, you play for a couple hours, you forget about, then remember a week later and then you play again. and again. it is so worth the price. Also, i bought this game in 2019, and there were only levels on the planet. After a lot of the community complained about the samey levels, the devs introduced SPACE LEVELS. truly amazing.

+ Graphics are v. good - clean, colourful (but not garish) voxel style
+ Audio effects are nice
+ The central cannon is always under your manual control, which is a nice way of letting you prioritise certain enemies and gives you something to do

- Can't remap any controls
- The mouse feels very floaty and/or sluggish
- No markers for spawned enemies that are off-screen
- The game isn't especially clear about why you can't build certain turrets that you've just researched (it's because they fit on a larger hex (which you can't unlock because it takes a different kind of resource (which the research screen doesn't tell you about)))
- The central cannon can't be set to Automatic, so you HAVE to always use it. And my impression is that the game is balanced around you always using the central cannon, so this game is much more clicky than a more normal tower-defence game

I really wanted to like this game, but it really needs a Quality-of-Life upgrade. Control-remapping, auto-mode for the central cannon, warning players that they can't build any of their new turrets - these and other improvements would go a long way to giving this game the polish that it deserves.

Excellent. Maybe even outstanding. Good unit/weapon options, great research curve that fits the increasing difficulty as the game progresses. Graphics are good enough, music is meh (I play some pounding heavy metal instead to keep my attention going), but the gameplay and design are spot-on. One space (zero-G) level bugs & the enemies explode on landing --confirmed over 2 playthroughs-- but otherwise this game offers basically no post-tutorial gimmes and it's a constant, but not annoying, resource balancing act throughout. Absolutely worth 2 goes: not ashamed to admit I played through on easy first, then normal. Few setbacks and glad to say they're not super-punishing (although this might not be clear at the outset; just keep going).

This is a great game with huge potential. So far, I believe that the game isn't worth the posted price, as although they continue to update, currently there just isn't enough content. If you want to support a great game, I would 100% suggest buying, as it has great graphics and engaging gameplay, even though there isn't enough content for the price listed.

This game is fun and engaging at first, but its not a complete game. After the first few levels you will have experienced all the enemies in the game, after this point the game just vomits more of them. It is no longer exiting to get to the next level which is an exact copy of the previous level with a couple more copy pasted enemies. Even on hard mode, the game seems far too easy.

There is no replay value of the game, since it is the same enemies, the same towers, and the same tech tree.

At $25 the game isn't worth it with only a couple hours of fresh content. I'd recommend it if it was $5 or $10. Either wait for the price to go down, a sale, or more content.

• Day 10... ummm... yay?
• Big Sky ship comes.. seriously??
• Crawls onto floor in fetal position in shame
• One good eye still watching monitor
• Holy f*ck that is a lot of troops.
• What was the goal again?

Taur is a really good tower defense game! It looks good, sounds good, and plays good!

However, it has abysmal replay value for the price tag attached to it. You will have explored everything Taur has to offer in as little as seven hours--even less if you can quickly grasp the gameplay mechanics and max out your research tree.

I hope the dev adds some gameplay mechanics to encourage repeat play. Challenge modes, daily missions, and/or a deeper progression system could help in that regard. In the game's current state though, I honestly do not think it is worth the asking price.

A nice little gem. Getting into it and choosing the right defenses and upgrades can be a bit tricky at the beginning because of so many options to choose from but one gets the hang of it quite quickly.

Some QoL things are missing in the menu, but the main game is great. Especially in later stages there are so many enemies and explosions on screen that I could not believe what was going on.

The game experience changes over the course of the game: At the beginning you have to do the main work with your prime gun, with a little support from your (few) towers. As the game progresses, towers become more and more importante and the prime gun supports only against the biggest threats. It is very nice to accompany and understand this change.

Probably there is some replay value with the different difficulties and choosing different paths of towers, upgrades and abilities.

Very good game!

if your considering buying this game here are some pros and cons

Pros:
extremely unique
maps and enemy variety is good
user controlled gun feels great to shoot
NPC guns (the towers below your gun) are meaningful on the battlefield
great tech tree
good weapon variety

Cons:
when upgrading your user controlled gun, its a random chance of terrible, common, good, epic, legendary, etc. meaning at level 2 your gun can do 100 damage if legendary and level 9, only 30 damage if terrible! it ruins the flow of a campaign!
short game 7 hours to beat everything, (it was very fun for those hours)
tile loot (light blue) spawns too little, they are required to build turrets and i never acquired enough to max out my base until i beat the games final boss! way too low spawn.

in short: its fun and worth a play, watch out for some issues when playing though.
thanks for reading have a great day!

fun, great, and overall enjoyable tower defence/base building type of game.
progression through upgrading feels right and waves of enemies and maps are fairly balanced in terms of gameplay. (nothing too OP or map too rediculous for anything)

levels are also nice looking and cool to see with a semi destructable enviroment

level 50 is when the boss appears and if you cant kill him there he appears every 25 levels

One annoying nit pick is that the icons for defenses/upgrades are very similar which makes it hard to tell them apart without closely examining them

Even with trying to change mouse sensitivity, the cursor still doesn't respond well and is extremely slow. The game can be either extremely difficult or extremely easy with very little in-between. Very much a shooter with research elements instead of a lot of strategy. I love the art style, but overall, Taur needs some basic polishing to be completed before its worth anywhere near the $25 asking price.

Looks beautiful, but 2 hours in game and you have seen all the mechanics, all the content.
There are actually 4-5 mission or so in game, that repeat themself dozed of times. And unless destroyed, you start with towers layout as it was at end of previous mission. Layout cnat be changed between missions, so after 1-2 hours the game becomes an endless repition of the same.
Feels more like techno-demo rather than proper game.

Big Recommend! Very action packed, builds trully matter, and normal difficulty is perfectly ballanced further more the last boss is excelent so satisfiing loved it!
If you totally die its not that punishing you get back everything and one button rebuilds everything so its really friendly you dont have to restart over and over again. However if you keep losing you can die before or by the last boss cuz you just dont have enough umf.

My only gripe is that both money and blue power cover is hard to come by and really caps youre progress, you kinda forced to always take missions that gives most money and most blue core. If there would be more large and massive weapon options or a way to trade down with even big diminishings it would help a lot to smooth out a run and not get yuked. Maybe if everything would cost the same core.

However I do appriciate the hard decision when you ballance out youre capabilities the mission reward and what you can get away with, so in that sense its really cool.

Story is kinda cool actually, could build on it tbh, and the tutorial is very friendly its not in youre face thing like what you would expect.

The art style is really cool it reminds me of In to the sun game and some good memories i guess its cool. Maps do count btw knockback is a big thing.

I suggest keep the game on normal it will get hard in the end anyways so no point.

I rarely put a review on a game, but this is just horrible balanced. The difficulty spike at around day 15 will kill all fun, if you dont know how to min-max. On top of that most weapons feel useless and your towers have no hp at all.

The best moment happened to me at the first playthrough at ~day 8, where a tank with 1250 hp, which is hard to kill with basically no dps, oneshot me. If he attacks you or your guardians is pure rng

I like the aesthetics and the tech tree is rewarding, but this is not a tower defense game, but a hardcore survival game with scarce resources

Good fun for around 10 hours, then gets super repetitive.

Tower defence with a twist.

By around the 8th hour you would have completed the game by killing the big boss, then you enter into infinite game mode but by around 10 hours, you'll have almost all important upgrades done and will feel bored.

Like a lot of the reviews, I liked it, but I thought the amount of content was lacking for $25. I finished the campaign at around 9 hours and may spend another hour or three in the endless mode, but that will be it. I'm fine with that - I don't want every game to be a 40+ hour epic, but this kind of experience is only worth about $10 to me. It is still a thumbs up and it gets extra credit for being unlike any tower defense I've played, but just consider how much game play you need to get for your money to be satisfied before buying.

Overall I write reviews EXTREMELY RARELY.
ABSOLUTELY WORTH THE PURCHASE.
Is it $25? A little steep but to be honest this is the most inventive and clever Tower Defense I've ever seen. There was some INCREDIBLE thought put into this.

PROS:
-Gorgeous Game. Absolutely. Freaking. Gorgeous. 10/10 for Art design / detail of effects. You had me hooked right off the bat.
-Sound Effects. Movie Theater stuff here. WELL DONE!
-Immersion - When the fights got insane I legit could feel myself tense up.
-MANY routes/tech specs to take to achieve a win. Well done on the balance!
- A CLASSIC Tower Defense FEEL which is what we all LOVE about this Genre!

Cons:
-Beat the game in 10 hours. Probably had the game open when I made dinner so maybe 9 hours. Yes there is endless mode BUT overall, there isn't a whole lot of depth beyond the first play through which ISN'T HORRIBLE BUT ..... It should be known to future purchasers.

That's really it on the cons.

Overall - BUY THIS GAME - You're not going downtown to a bar with your friends during Rona' don't try to fool me. There you just saved $30 on drinks on a single night. Instead buy this guy and enjoy the EXTREMELY Unique art style and game design.
Keep it up Developers you're sitting on a gold mine with your amazing work!

This is a recommendation, but with some major caveats. I'll break it down into good and bad here. I'll also go in depth on a major complaint I have with the game.

The Good:
- A fun and relaxing tower defense game
- A nice balance between the impact of your towers and the impact of your own manual fire control of the Taur Prime cannon
- Very sleek aesthetic, the game and models looks good in a classy indie way. The guardian robots look especially cool with a Greek Hoplite style spear and shield armament
- Very nice explosions, satisfying visual feedback and spectacle
- Switching taur prime weapons on the fly is cool
- Rewarding tech tree and upgrade system
- Campaign system with some freedom of choice and some leniency towards occasionally losing missions

The Bad:
- Lack of content. The main campaign can be finished in about 5-7 hours depending on whether you succeed in the first attempt at fighting the end boss. And by that time the gameplay will have gotten quite repetitive, and you will have virtually exhausted the tech tree
- Somewhat poor weapon balancing. Certain weapons feel very useless while others are clearly superior like the Ballistic Missile.
- Lack of variation between missions. While the different maps are nice, your base layout is always the same. What's more, except for towers that were destroyed on the last mission, the game automatically starts you off with the same layout you finished the last mission with. I'll go deeper into this below, but basically you end up building a jack-of-all trades base and then play every battle with the same layout with very little freedom to adjust and change your base.
- Inability to specialize for given map and enemy type. I mentioned this above, but this deserves its own point. Ahead of each mission, you will know what type of enemy force you will face, be it infantry, tanks or aircraft. But since you are forced to carry over your towers from last mission, you will have at least some of your base be completely pointless against the enemy, like SAM sites against infantry or melee guardian droids against enemy tanks or aircraft. And destroying a useless tower to build something else will only refund you the cost at the end of the battle. Why there is no menu to view and make changes to your current base layout in between missions is beyond me.
- Lack of unique missions. The main campaign has you hold out for 50 days against randomized enemy attacks until you fight the end boss for the first time. But in all that time there are no other special missions to spice things up. Like they could have made a mission for each time a new advanced enemy type was introduced, like the various tanks or the stealth bombers, just as an example.
- Weirdly disconnected campaign system. In the game you're defending planet Taurea from invasion, and each day you're presented with up to three random defensive missions to choose from, these then give you various rewards. But this feels very different from what defending a planet would be like when you would actually fortify and hold specific locations. Also there are never any urban or industrial sectors to defend, always just wilderness.

All in all I really like a lot about this game, I just wish more had been done to encourage variation between missions and some more investment into holding on to this planet. All it is right now is a bunch of random wilderness areas for you to arbitrarily fight on, where it could have been so much more. It's also sad that the game is so limiting relative to other Tower Defense games, where each map has a different layout and will need a new defensive plan to beat. I was very engaged from the start until a few hours in when the game started to drag and I really started to miss more variation. I'm not sure the game is worth its asking price right now, but if you really like tower defense games you can give it a try.

This game is AMAZING! It has so much potential to be more too! It's your TD game that has (almost) everything you want, your upgrade tree, 8 unique weapons to choose from, random enemy spawns, etc... The only thing i really wished they had was survival!!! That would be amazing, having to hold off the enemy at their front with the waves slowly progressing in difficulty. Maybe even with some new weapons like a rapid mini missile launcher or a blade saw, maybe even equip the rangers with some fire arrows and the guardians with sonic boom shields to knock enemies back further. idk this game is so fun and i hope you devs take it to new hights! stay breezy

Good game but I think it'd be good for a much lower price. About 10-15 dollars on sale. I think what this game really needs is an endless mode with everything unlocked. The fun of this game at least for me isn't in the progression but the gameplay and visuals but that's such a minor issue. Just too pricey for what it has to offer.

While this game is definitely good, it does not have enough in game content to justify it's price as of this review, though that may change in the future.

The game play is immensely enjoyable, the soundtrack, graphics and game mechanics flows smoothly with each other. Although somewhat expensive, definitely would recommend if you have some extra cash to spend.

I have also completely filled all building slots, small, medium and large. As well as maxed out everything and unlocked everything in the research tab. I have gotten legendary rolls on almost all the weapons. I'm trying to get all legendary weapons right now, then I would have completed the game and done everything you can do.

I can't really recommend this game at its base price. The game at its core is fun, but there's just not enough to it. After you've played it for 3-4 hours you've basically seen everything. I ended up beating the final boss at 6 hours albeit only on normal difficulty.

If you can get this on sale, I'd recommend it, but it's just not worth it at $25 unfortunately

Game is fun but not enough to pay full price; maybe if it was @ $15 or less.

resource management - is a horrible mess; all resources missions offer are RNG, with the rarer materials being a huge pain in the butt to collect enough of... i end up with enough 'big power' crystals that i could build 100 gigantic buildings... but you only have 4 slots for those. And you never end up with enough crystals to buy/unlock research tech.

game difficulty - scaling is a joke; one level you're destroying everything... the next level you lose to 10x as many enemy forces... this seems to occur randomly, as if the game is going 'nope, you're having too much fun!' Even if you're trying to play the game casually, it will relentlessly poop on your head while screaming at you.

the game has a lot of potential, but i just cannot suggest anyone pay full price for it... and it would obviously be a lot more fun if the devs didn't design the AI enemy deployment to intentionally screw you over.

An interesting take on tower defense, where you just have one MASSIVE tower complex in the middle of the map that you add onto over the game. Super fun, but you can beat it in like 6 hours.

There isn't much content and I was able to finish the gameplay within 10 hours (max upgrades and defeated boss). I would say wait until the developers add more content or a sale.

I very much enjoy this game. I really only play League, COD, Rust, and minecraft, but this game has become my new most played. The sheer amount of possibilities for base making is great, and picking your own playstyle is very fun. There is a lot to grind for, but it doesnt feel like grinding as each in game day is essentially just another mission. The beginning is slow, but still very enjoyable. I would highly recommend. Also, the physics and explosions are TOP TIER. So satisfying just lasering a plane out of the sky, or using the mortar on a large group of enemies.

Devs made it extremly easy to understand the games deep mechanics within 5 minutes of starting up the game.

If you want a game that has a tech tree, allowing you to go down several different playstyle routes at your own discretion, while having a mix of RTS, tower defense, and action RPG gameplay, this game is perfect for you.

Fix the goddamn ressource starvation. Each game the game picks one ressource, and it becomes impossible to find any. So you end up with no reason to keep playing, as you innevitably reach a point where you can't upgrade any further, so you're just fighting identical encounters for no reward. In this current playthrough I'm out of stellar crystals. Havent seen one in over 20 games. Can't upgrade anything. Can't reforge anything. No progress, nothing to do.

Its a good game, fun for about 5 to 8 hours before it becomes very boring and repetitive.

But its not worth the full asking price and the game seems to be abandoned with no future updates. While the game is polished the content is early access level, with upgrade tree seemly lacking for no other reason other than a lack of time/ effort from the dev to fuily flush out the game.

if the games half price or less its worth picking it up, but not at full price, maybe if the dev updates or allows modding than it might be worth its full price.

I am only giving this a down vote temporarily (I hope). So here is the gist of my experience so far.
Play time: 7 hours
Status: Completed the entire game
Enjoyment: Yes

Pros:
Fun aesthetic feel
High visual and audio fidelity when it comes to effects.
Unique game mode (I really haven't played anything else like this before)
Can be challenging
Different game modes present different challenges.

Cons:
Over way too soon. Done in 7 hours
The best primary weapon is the 1st one you unlock (not counting the one you start with)
Limited game modes, 4 in total, and you can expect to play at least 100 rounds of them to finish the campaign.
VERY limited roster, a total of 10 enemies, and 1 boss. Harder levels just means more of them.
No real replayability, once you're done there really isnt an incentive to go back for more.
Price is a bit steep for how little you get, this is a full release after all, not an early access game.

Conclusion:
I would love to see more of this game, expanding with a new story, new bosses, new game modes, or anything really. I loved the gameplay, but it gets stale fast, and for $24.99 this is a bit steep. The completionist in me had to finish this game, but it's repetitiveness made it feel more like household chores.

An overall great concept, but it needs way more substance.

Phenomenal indie game! I haven't played a tower defense shooter in a long time, but this game brought me back into the genre. I like the way the campaign is set up, and there is a lot of options to upgrade everything. There's some replayability with the upgrades and what you can choose to do, maybe a run with just air defenses, or ground defenses, or units, etc. The tech tree adds a lot.

A few cons: it got too grindy to upgrade weapons later on when you had to start using building cores, so I just focused on towers upgrades at that point. Could use a few more enemies, a few more tower types, a few more upgrades, a few more mission types. I wish I could upgrade the damage of rangers and shield guys.

That said, this was just released and I am sure there will be content updates. I had a lot of fun playing one campaign and got through nearly all the upgrades. Campaign skirmish matches are the perfect length to not get bored. The artstyle is well done. The music fits, but is just kinda there. The ability to rain frost arrows is incredibly powerful. I do not want to say overpowered because I would rather other abilities and tower damage get some buff and only see a slight debuff to the arrow ability. Felt like I was doing all my damage with that, especially with the last boss.

I'm gona' make this short and sweet. Main story took 6 hours to play. The audio and visuals are top notch. Unlike other tower defense games, you don't make meaningful choices. You just have to buy all the upgrades to win.
In short, this game is like a meal with very well seasoned meat and potatoes.
There's just not enough of them. Get it on sale.

I love the concept of this game, and the art is cool. But it suffers from some fundamental flaws that have not been improved since launch.
1) Mouse control is terrible... seen comments on forums on acceleration. Not sure what it is but it is a HUGE frustration.
2) Waiting for cannon to reload is BORING. And it seems like that is occurring half the time How is that fun? 3) Cannon randomly starts to auto-fire for no reason. Which is very annoying when each bullet feels so precious given the giant reload times.

This game really did intrigue me, but after playing for only half an hour the game is already boring. It just feels like the same thing over and over again, down to even the sound effects and musical chime when you win a mission. Sure you can get upgrades, but the whole screen is confusing and they honestly don't add much to the missions other than just kind of being there. For this relatively high price, this game is definitely not worth it, although I do have hopes that it can be improved upon.

oh god. this game just need more passion. I like this game still. but I'm already exhausted for routine work on this game. developer just try consume player's time and save own time for game development and they must believe that is what good on game making but It's wrong. developer have to know that. Still I like this game. planetary defence system from above over sky is awesome.

The game is visually attractive: looks awesome on a video. But...

First of all, it is NOT a tower defense game. You are not placing towers strategically along some path. All the firepower is always in the middle and the main action is to manually aim and shoot so-called prime cannon. You cannot win the game using some strategy or some clever sequence of upgrades.
And after a dozen of levels all starts to feel extremely repetitive: no new content, no story, no new locations - no nothing. Just more of upgrades to the point when you eventually will be able to defeat final boss. And the boss fight is boring too...

PS: liked visuals and sounds. Explosion effects looks great. But the game itself is kinda empty. Not recommended.

Graphically beautiful, the gameplay is quite different from most tower defenses but it's a great way to kill time. There's a few balance issues at the moment but even then it's great fun

Great graphic but quite slow in terms of progress and repetitive after 2 hours.

basically doing the same thing again and again, get the tiny bit of resources and build new towers, however the auto generation of the enemy is just not enough for it to be actually great.

I would actually recomend this game if it wasnt so expensive. For £20 its a really short game - it would make an amazing ipad/tablet game for sure if it was less than £5 but for the price it is I cant recomend it it.

It was fun for the first 2 to 3 hours because of all the new enemies and unexplored tech trees.
4 to 5 hours into the game you'll pretty much explored everything the game can offer and just repeat the same 4 maps from that point. The only thing keeps me going is to complete the campaign, which was not very fun!
The game has potential but it needs the following:
Add more tech to the tech tree and make the tech tree clearer. The tech tree looks huge at first glance but it doesn't offer much once you go through it.
Add quality of life tech improvements like faster reload, faster cool down, auto aim etc.
More maps and more enemy types, or just offer workshop!
Have level up system for replay value.
Have tower rearrangement from menu not in game only!

I want to enjoy different combos of techs and types of towers, enjoy epic explosions and enemies killed hopelessly not the freaking aiming.

Bringing Out The Big Guns

Taur is an action-strategy game developed by Echo Entertainment. It’s like a mashup between tower-defense and top-down shooters with a research tree thrown in for good measure. In Taur you take control of a Prime Cannon, the biggest, baddest beast in the Taurean arsenal. The Imperion have been kicking Taurean butt, and you’re the last hope to defend the homeworld.

Gameplay:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=veM3NN2OB6w

Positives:

• Great low poly art, with excellent animations and visual effects.
• The gameplay is a heap-ton of fun. You control the prime tower in the center of your construction which can use two out of eight weapons at a given time, you also get special abilities (such as slow time) to use. Then you have the building side of things, you have a hexagonal grid around your tower with some larger building slots on the periphery. Each slot has to be bought and then you buy towers. So, once you get going with the game, you have your towers chewing up enemies while you’re also shooting at them. It gets pretty intense once the game starts throwing a lot of enemies at you, and it’s an absolute blast.
• Tower variety is great. There’s a bunch of different things you can unlock including drones that use swords and shields, SAM sites, flying bombers, anti-projectile lasers etc.
• Not including the boss fight, there are four different mission types. Invasion, Siege, Skyfall and Air Raid (this is my personal favorite). Invasion sees you fight off waves of mostly infantry enemies. Siege sends in ‘siege’ enemies such as tanks and missile launchers. Skyfall randomly drops infantry enemies all over the map, making them harder to deal with than in Invasion. Air Raid has you defending against waves of air enemies such as fighter jets and bombers. They’re all a lot of fun.
• The research tree is pretty big, with three main branches. You have one branch dedicated to the prime weapons, one to towers and then one to a couple of miscellaneous things and your special abilities. There’s a lot to unlock, and I feel like everything is well-balanced. I never felt like anything on the tree was useless.
• Taur features a Forge where you can go to spend a small amount of currency on trying to improve your weapons. You can get pretty significant stat boosts from these, though sometimes your stats will get decreased (in these instances you can usually just reroll since it’s so cheap). It’s a nice little way to boost your prime tower that’s cheap and effective.
• Enemy variety is quite good, with several enemy types each for infantry, air and siege.
• The final boss is one tough customer. I don’t want to spoil anything about the fight, but I think it offers a pretty significant challenge. You get your first chance to fight the boss at Day 50 in the campaign, and then it re-appears every 25 days until you’re able to defeat it.
• The missions are short. Most of them will only take you a few minutes. This makes the game feel a little more fast-paced, and it also means that you can buy upgrades more often.
• Great sound-effects.

Negatives

• Taur’s biggest issue is that there’s just not enough variety in maps. The maps are all pre-made rather than procedurally generated, but there’s only somewhere in the region of ten-fifteen of them. It doesn’t take long for you to start seeing the same maps over and over again, it gets a bit stale. For the most part, they’re not particularly complex either. Many of the maps just have wide open spaces, with few that have interesting terrain details such as bottlenecks.
• There are seven currencies in the game, with the exception of Power which is used for almost everything, the other currencies are only used for specific things. For example, power cores are used when adding new buildings. Each mission can only give you two types of currency other than Power, and there were a few times where I’d need a specific currency, but I wouldn’t see it for 5+ missions. At times like this, having so many currencies creates frustration because you can’t get the upgrades you want/need.
• Another issue with currencies is that the rewards for missions seem to be randomly assigned, and they don’t seem to scale as you get further in the game (and things get more expensive). For instance, a mission with Extreme enemy resistance might pay less than a mission with Moderate enemy resistance. It would have made more sense to have the reward amount tied to how difficult the mission is.
• I don’t feel like there’s really enough content here to justify a $25 price tag. To me this seems more like a $15 game. The lack of map variety in particular really makes it feel like a smaller game than it could/should have been and after you've beaten the boss (should take around 5-10 hours) there are no other goals or gamemodes.

Verdict:

Taur is a little pricey, and it has some issues but oh boy is it a lot of fun to play. Great gameplay paired with slick visuals and a bunch of big explosions makes for a great time. I would recommend waiting for a sale, but it’s definitely well worth picking up.

The games fun enough and looks nice, but its too expensive for what youre getting, and the balance is pretty heavily off.

The games not complex, some basic pro/con balance should have been set in stone when designing the enemies and players weapons and defenses, and there should have been more weapons, abilities, maps and one or two more invasion types/game modes.

The game doesnt have mini bosses or complex enemies, it just ramps up by throwing more trash at you, but youre not equipped to deal with huge numbers of trash, you have only 1 decent personal weapon with splash that you can fire every 15 seconds or so (great disappointment to people like me who like explosions) and your bases defenses, which while chimeras (which are HE cannons) are great at dealing with large numbers of ground enemies as they have splash, damage, range and knock down, you have no flak to deal with large numbers of aircraft, just guns that miss 90% of the time, SAMs that dont have anywhere near the volume of fire you need or little lasers without the range to stop bombers actually getting to you.

Without getting too into it, youre left with 4 of the 8 personal weapons being actually useful (miniguns, laser, big rocket and auto AA missiles), another 4 basic defenses (guardians, rangers, chimeras and interceptors) plus the talos missile defense, a shield and some large weapons that you cant field in numbers high enough to really appreciate, so whats it matter what you pick for those out of the remaining 2 choices each they have.

Even though you have a really drawn out upgrade tree thats much smaller than it looks, the game really needs tiered upgrades to flesh it out, so that instead of unlocking the useful defenses and then forever gambling with the forge to upgrade your personal weapons, a defense can upgrade and sidegrade, for example the Talos could have you choose between upgrading it to redirect the missiles it intercepts or be able to intercept many more to save space. Theres plenty of room for those kinds of mechanics in the game.

The game just doesnt have enough in it, and the balance cuts that number down by making things useless.

Also, if youre going to make the levels only a minute or two long, make more maps or make them more interesting to look at.
