Über das Spiel

The Quest is a beautifully hand-drawn open world role playing game with old school grid-based movement and turn based combat.

In the kingdom of Monares trouble is brewing. The governor of Freymore is missing and the island is in tumult. The mages all prophesy a dark shadow looming over the safety of the kingdom. As an Agent of the king, it's your job to find out what is happening and avert any danger.

Choose from five customizable races and an array of skills, weapons, armor and enchantments, and explore a huge world of four cities and a wilderness of mountains, caves, lakes and forests – full of mystery, magic and intriguing challenges. Meet the many inhabitants, each with its own agenda and attitude towards your character. Some will be helpful, some greedy or lascivious or just plain mean. You will have many choices, including some that may place you against the law, along your way to the dramatic ending of your own choosing.

Features:
  • Pursue a long and dramatic main story and solve many optional side quests.
  • Create a highly customizable character and cast dazzling spells, enchant powerful items, concoct potent potions and persuade people to further your goals.
  • Discover an open world with interesting locales, day/night cycle, weather, fascinating people, dangerous creatures, readable books, pick-able locks, repairable items, houses that can be broken into, dungeons, traps and much more.
  • Play an absorbing card game with three different decks, accessible at the inns.

Was mich jedoch sehr stört, sind in diesem Spiel vorhandene verbugte Questreihen.

If you don't mind the 2D-sprites and like Dungeon Crawlers + open world you should get it!
I loved it to play.

Empfehle ich also The Quest ?
Also keine Kritik ?

Fazit KAUFEN :-)

This game is the definition of what I usually don't want in the games I play; a very cheap indie game, and a mobile port to boot. Now don't get me wrong; I have nothing against these games. They just aren't for me.

But

Holy smack. This game is GREAT. It really is a 2D Daggerfall, improved in a lot of ways. The multiple quest outcomes were quite a surprise. The amount and quality of lore isn't bad either. The gameplay is great, the exploration is great, the music is a little repetitive but OK, and the graphics are weirdly appealing. Some sprite integration could have been better, as well as some textures, but overall it's pretty neat. I congratulate the two devs that clearly worked their butts off on this. A rare gem. This game needs more recognition.

Had to spent school holidays as a kid with my family. That bought me time to finish the game (symbian version) trough sleepless nights on my sony ericsson P900 back in the day. One of the best games i've ever played. Thank you guys for this masterpiece.

Timeless Classic.

Its always nice to come back and continue my journey.

Luckily game has Steam Cloud for saves.

Game is challenging and same time rewarding so it's not walk in the park.
Game feels Atmospheric and sometimes eerie with 90's fibes.

Buy it and enjoy !

People who enjoy old school RPGs like Might & Magic, Eye of the Beholder, Dungeon Master etc. will love this game.

It has a beautiful open world with a lot to explore. There are a ton of quests which mostly can be solved in different ways. Character customization offers a wide variety of different classes, races and skills. The turn-based combat is fun and simple. I am a huge fan of the hand-drawn art style. The music is very atmospheric and fitting.

The Quest is a great game! There was much love put into this game and it shows. It's engaging and challenging. With lots of well working systems that make the experience, as a whole, pretty fun!

My only issue with it is not having the ability to see what spells (for instance in form of wands or cast spells) do... There's little help in the tool tip. Regardless, it's still good game

The Quest is one of the most underrated and longest running supported RPG titles. Would you believe I first got the quest on my iPod Touch in 2008 and still have it installed on my iPhone in 2021. The Quest was orginally produced for PDA devices and has since grown into the title we see here today. This version of The Quest is actually an HD Remake of the game. Both versions of the game feature beautiful hand drawn graphics and dungeon crawling goodness. The world is well established with plenty of lore and there are many different skills and classes you can build your character around. I have played through The Quest Classic more times than I can count on my iPhone and easily have 500+ hours logged in it. I can recommend this RPG enough everyone who loves RPG's needs to check this one out.

A modern classic, and one of the few mobile ports done right. The Quest doesn't feel like a mobile game. The graphics have been sharpened nicely for modern systems (looks wonderful on my 1920x1080 monitor) and the movement/UI is right in line with most every other adventure/RPG.

I have played this to completion on mobile (the ONLY mobile RPG I've been bothered to finish) but wanted to see how it held up on PC. If you're a fan of classic RPG's (think Might and Magic VI-VIII, Morrowind, Wizardry VIII), this game is a MUST play, and I do not throw around that phrase often. A variety of combat styles, magic schools, crafting and enough skills to make even the most discriminating of RPG fans happy. The story seems simple at first but gains complexity as it unfolds, and the side quests are often cunning and offer multiple resolutions.

There is an official expansion available as well as some unofficial add-ons to bolster playability. The devs are working on a much anticipated sequel as well, which myself and many other fans of the game are anxiously awaiting.

In summary, if you enjoy grid-based movement, turn based combat, an open world, single-player parties and classic RPG vibes, The Quest is the game for you.

This game is a dream come true for classic RPG and Dungeon crawl fans like me. It's even better with the expansions. Anyway, after reading some reviews, I ran across some stating that this game has broken stats/skills. They are wrong. You can make any build you dream of, any build you want and it will work exactly how it should. Take my build for example, a most eloquent ranger. High persuasive and bartering skills, along with light armor, light weaponry, archery and a bit of magic. It works without flaw. Any skills and stats you want will happen the way it's supposed to. So take my advise, don't get discouraged by reviewers claiming the game is broken here and there. This game is more for someone who has played and loved a lot of classic DOS, Commodore Amiga and/or late 90's early 2000's RPGs. If you're looking for more modern gameplay, you might not want to touch this. Eitherway, for those who are willing to give it time, I'd say go for it and buy it.

I'd prefer giving this a middling review, if one was available. If you like oldschool grid-based dungeon crawlers and find this on sale, it may be for you. Note that this was originally a phone game, so keep your expectations of graphics etc low. I got it as a casual time-killer between other games.

Upsides:
-There are hundreds of hours of user-created expansions on the workshop if you're into this type of game.
-Enemies and some loot respawn after a lengthy period of time, allowing you to re-farm experience and cash.

YMMV:
-A number of quests are morally-ambiguous or depressing, if that sort of thing drives you nuts. (e.g., Do you want to help the alcoholic adulterer wife, or her abusive controlling husband?).
-The music isn't bad, though there isn't a large variety.
-The sound effects are limited and occasionally laughable...but you're not playing this for the sound, right?
-Character portraits are also laughably bad....but you're not playing this for the graphics, right?
-Spellcasting enemies can be overpowered snipers.
-You can pre-plan the use of books and training vendors to maximize your statistics for an edge. However, doing so can be a chore. If you're a min/maxer, expect to do a lot of extra work at the start.

Downsides:
-The common name of the game hinders finding useful guides online. There are no reliable wiki sources that I could find, either.
-Statistics are very unbalanced with most players using the same build (light weapons, heavy armor, wands).
-The amount of time spent curing (often unavoidable) status ailments is annoying.
-It appears as if the original programmer for the game no longer works for the company. The remaining two (?) employees are friendly and responsive, but don't provide bug fixes or official addons etc.

A great, hand crafted game, clearly a labor of love.

I have been playing CRPG's since the days of text based MUDs, and I give The Quest my stamp of approval.

Pro's
- Massive game, lots of hand crafted content and reasons to explore.
- Challenging, well designed combat and RNG mechanics.
- Great relatively original RPG storyline.

Cons

- Traveling can be a bit tedious, but it was clear the dev made attempts to alleviate this and its only at times.
- Resource management could be improved, a player shouldnt have to chug potions every other turn.
- Vague directions for some quests (a pro and a con, makes you check everything)

At the end of this day, I highly recommend this title. Its custom RPG goodness in world of procedurally generated crud.

The Quest with its mechanics won't be everyone's cup of tea, but I sure as hell have been boiling more water for nearly 200 hours now, and I expect to hit at least 300 before I'm finally done. I'm sure you already know that this game uses grid-based movement, and I understand why that would put some people off. If you don't find this to be a problem however, I strongly recommend you to try this game, which I find perfectly comfortable for winding down after the day, or simply delving into for hours on end. If you like what you see when looking at screenshots or gameplay, I'm pretty confident you'll like the game.

The Quest II is in development, and it is one of my most awaited announced video games, alongside a handful of titles such as S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, Metroid Prime 4 and Amnesia: Rebirth. This either means it's an awesome game, or I've simply found a niche I love.

The crux of this is that this game is extremely old-school. I don't mean old-school as in the sense of Diablo II, but rather the late 80's.

The game is solid if you have an appreciation for this sort of game. If you do not enjoy Eye of the Beholder, this game will seem absolutely atrocious for you.

The soundtrack is extremely repetitive. Adding more various soundtracks would be interesting, but old games of this style did not actually have diverse soundtracks.

I would add a note, that this game is of particular interest to game developers or anyone with an academic interest in video games; you might have to research this kind of style of games, and so thus you play this title. This might not sound like a source of money for the developers, but it's enough for them investigate.

It's an extremely hit-and-miss game, dependent on whether you appreciate very old-school CRPGs or not.

Beautiful hand-drawn rpg that I really enjoyed but there are definitely room for improvement.

Pros:
- I personally loved the graphics.
- Enjoyed the character creation and min-maxing, it had some depth but was simple enough.
- Some of the side missions and maybe the dlc story was interesting.
- Occasional opportunities for actual role-playing.
- The world they created really sucks you in.

These pros are really strong points in my opinion. I have quite a few cons as well some major some smaller ones, and it's more than possible that I have unfair expectations towards the game, but I saw so much potential that I have to note them.

Cons:
- Unfortunately the main mission and most of the side missions are really blank, good-evil type of boring choices, no middle road, no grey choices, no real roleplaying. (major)
- No factions to join, not much chained side missions that lead you somewhere (most of them are one of side missions) (major)
- I don't know if I managed to create some really overpowered build, but I went with an undead pure mage and my sustain became incredibly strong very fast that made it a breeze to play through the game.
- Although the map helps and you can also add notes to your map, a lot of times you have no idea where you are supposed to go, or if you forgot to mark someone you can quickly forget where that npc was exactly. Some of their placement also seemed to be so random. Like you see 4 identical houses and 3 of them are empty, but one of them has an npc with a quest. It's really easy to miss out side missions like that.
- Your quest log doesn't really seem to be update and if the quest has multiple steps you can easily lose track on what you are supposed to do, so I personally was constantly looking up quests online.

As I said I enjoyed the game and I do recommend it, but there are definitely areas where they could've done better.

Good old-style hack-n-slash RPG, dungeon crawler style with 90 degrees turning. Not much of real roleplay, but enough of difficult monsters to defeat. Relatively many ways to make and play character, like different skills and items. Main storyline isn't best, but secondary quests have some good stories.

Don't let the playtime fool you! I've played The Quest since 2006, starting on the iPod and ending with The Quest HD on PC. My phone's got TQ HD and all the expansions and I'm currently working my way through Celtic Rift. I don't regret spending money for this game and its subsequent expansions by Zarista Games. Even the editor for this game comes included, and it's been cleaned up nicely. Seriously, the old editor was terrible, crashed every five minutes. I've gone an hour without one crash, it runs great!

As far as gameplay goes, it's essentially a Chosen One story. A little generic and ye olden times and you can get it done in a day or two if you really sit down and play it. The real meat and potatoes is Islands of Ice and Fire. The story is better than the main game and the worldbuilding is fantastic, seriously. I could go on about how this game is great. Redshift crams a lot of goodies and hidey holes in their small maps, Zarista Games does this as well with their expansions.

Go get it!

This game is still a lot of fun after all this time. The translation to PC is great, so if you enjoyed this on mobile you will like it even more on PC. The editor is one of my favorite parts of the game and allows for as much replay as you want to put into it (plus whatever else others put on the workshop). If you like classic first-person dungeon crawlers, this game is for you. In many ways it feels like the grandfather to Skyrim (so say the kids).

This is what I call a great rpg! As a 66 year old rpg gamer I have missed the great old games like Might and Magic, Eye of Beholder, Lands Of Lore, and so many others. If you liked those games you're going to love this game. Great graphics, turn base combat, many dungeons to explore and wide variety of quest. After 78 hrs I finally finished the main quest. Now on to the expansions. Hope quest 2 is coming out soon. Im sure it will be another great game I will spend many hours trying to save the world!

Great game. Plays and feels like a true early 90's computer rpg. If you played and enjoyed games like Daggerfall, Might and Magic, and stonekeep you'll most likely enjoy this game too. The only flaws are that the combat can sometimes be a bit tedious and some of the quests do a pretty poor job guiding you.

I enjoyed this game. I finished it and the expansion Islands of Fire and Ice. Now that its got Steam Workshop support its an even better value. Keep in mind what it is, its a retro-style, hack and slash, Dungeon Crawler / Fantasy World type game that had a smaller budget but programers who cared bout what they were making and put their heart into it. Its got lots of quests that can be solved different ways. Lots of character build options (Some of them harder to play then others) My only complaint about the game was that I couldn't access areas of the game I could see, that were one level higher then the ground level. If your looking for Skyrim, don't bother, but if your looking to have a fun time in a interesting fantasy world, you can't go wrong here.

Wonderful grid-based first person RPG that feels like it came straight from the golden age of such games.
Don't be fooled by this game's iOS/mobile background and your (honestly, completely reasonable) preconceptions about games made for such platforms! The Quest is one huge, deep, and exceptionally well-crafted RPG experience.

Large and beautiful open world that truly feels like it was carefully hand-crafted, one that is rich with nostalgic fantasy atmosphere and filled with loads of interesting locales to discover, dungeons to plunder and quests to solve (which often can be done in more than one way, or sometimes in a way that is connected with other seemingly separate quests). Game features a reputation system where your fame/infamy increases or decreases depending on your actions and way in which you complete quests, which in turn can influence your future quests and your interactions with some of the game's NPCs.

Combat is fully turn-based, highly enjoyable and deceptively simple. Game offers deep and open character customization, wide variety of equipment and spells, and sufficiently deep alchemy system. It's definitely a kind of game where trying out a vastly different character build is a good enough reason for a full-fledged replay.

This new re-release comes with a fully redone HD visuals, and I must say that team did a pretty good job there: game looks -gorgeous-, at times almost like a beautiful hand-drawn fantasy illustration, fully retaining its original charm reminiscent of 90s games that influenced it.
