Bester Teil der Reihe! Wahnsinn und was haben wir gelacht.

Pro:

- Mega schönes Leveldesign
- Abwechslungsreiche Level
- Bis zu drei Spieler Co-op
- Drei Charakter mit je eigenen Fähigkeiten, die alle benötigt werden, um weiter zu kommen
- DLC ist auch Klasse

Kontra:

- In unserer Gruppe konnte nur einer von drei hosten, da bei den anderen beiden immer alle ins Hauptmenü geflogen sind
- Hier und da ein kleiner Bug, gerade beim DLC, aber war nicht schlimm und hat meist für Lacher gesorgt
- Fähigkeiten wurden nicht gespeichert, so dass man sie bei jedem Laden neu vergeben musste

Für Erfolgsjäger:

Es gibt wieder für jeden einzelnen Level Sammelerfolge, also wenn ihr mit einem Leitfaden da durchgeht und es euch nicht zu langweilig ist sind die 100% gut möglich. Allerdings benötigt man fürs reine Durchspielen schon ca. 19 Stunden ;)

Fazit

Wenn ihr Trine 3 überlebt habt führt kein Weg hier dran vorbei. Was ein geiles Spiel. Die Level sehen unterschiedlich aus und sind richtig schön gemacht. Auch, dass man zu dritt wieder im Team zusammenarbeiten muss, um voran zu kommen bei den Rätseln. Einfach top. Kurzum, außer dass bei zweien von uns das Spiel immer abgeschmiert ist, als diese gehostet haben, gibt es nichts an diesem Spiel auszusetzen.

Reiht sich nahtlos an Teil 2 an, da Teil 3 zwar nett war, aber leider aus der Reihe fällt da sie es nicht zu Ende gebracht haben.

Also wer Teil 2 mochte, wir den hier auch mögen. Allerdings sollte man auch nichts Neues erwarten.

Lange auf das Spiel gehofft und auch gewartet. Da Trine 3 leider nie komplett fertiggestellt werden konnte, wie es ursprünglich geplant war. Das Spiel endet ja in der Mitte, normal war auch von der Story deutlich mehr geplant. Jedoch hatte man sich finanziell verkalkuliert. Umso schöner, das mit Trine 4 die Serie dann doch weitergehen konnte.
Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince vereint die Stärken der Reihe, ohne für mich jetzt neue Innovationen groß zu setzen.
Das muss es jedoch auch nicht, die Grafik und Technik sind einwandfrei, die Story reißt zwar keine Bäume raus, ist aber ein nettes Beiwerk geworden, um dem ganzen etwas Sinn und Verstand einzuflößen. Auch die Landschaften sind schön abwechslungsreich gestaltet. Rundum ein wirklich sehr gelungenes Trine was sich wie so ein Best of anfühlt.
Die Kampagne war mit knapp 13 Stunden auch echt ordentlich lang, da konnte bisher keiner der bisherigen Teile anknüpfen. Leider hatten wir im Koop mit haufenweise Verbindungsabbrüchen zu kämpfen, was leider ein wohl sehr unbekanntes Problem zu sein scheint. So flog mein Spielkumpane alle 5-15 Minuten aus dem Spiel, was das Spielgeschehen etwas trübte, was ich hier aber nicht als negativ Punkt aufführen kann, da es wohl selber mit dem Spiel nichts zu tun zu haben scheint. Nachtrag: Die Lösung scheint gefunden, beim ersten Level des DLC´s lief es einwandfrei. Wenn man seinen Spielkumpanen in der Lobby einlädt und nicht ganz am Anfang des ersten Levels, lief es komplett rund, ohne Verbindungsabbrüche.

Wertung: 84 / 100

Zur damaligen Zeit habe ich folgende Wertungen gegeben, einfach nur um euch zu zeigen, wie ich es einordne. Natürlich würde ich heute nach jetzigem Stand anders werten. Da veralterte Grafik, überholte Technik etc.

Nach der Enttäuschung, welche Trine 3 für mich war, ist Trine 4 wieder ein sehr guter Ableger der Reihe. Es weist viele Ähnlichkeiten mit Trine 2 auf, was etwas sehr gutes ist. Es gibt wieder einen Skilltree mit den alten 3 Charakteren.

Vor allem mit Freunden macht das Spiel sehr viel Spaß und somit kann ich es nur empfehlen.

ehmmm... now I should writes some sentences. But I have no words.
This game is... Fabolous. Literally and figuratively too.
The graphic details, the visual enviroment, the audios: the marvellous melodies and the cool effects,
the characters and their moving and skills. Great new features.
And the story? It's well-structured, spiced with appropriate humor and a few cuties.
The puzzles are not easy as earlier, but just so perfect!
Excellent sequel of the serie. Strongly RECOMMENDED. It worth even without on sale.

Sometimes I'm sorry I'm not a kid anymore. What an experience it would be to immerse in such a dream world! Now I'm 46 y/o, nevertheless I was 'Enchanted'.

(I such liked it that I write 2 mistakes in brackets only. :)
There's no any challenge in the battles, and there's zero achievement in the DLC.)

As a big fan of the first and second game and not so much on the third one, I can say that this fourth game finally brings back the glory of full 2D platformer/puzzle again. With enhanced graphics and gorgeous environments, the trio's adventure feel so much exciting to experience in both solo or multiplayer mode.

This game is now longer with more levels, also more challenging puzzles and combat. The combat though can be quite annoying at first before you can get used to it. But overall, it only takes time and patience to complete everything with trials and errors so IMO the difficulties are fair.

Very recommended for OG Trine fan 9/10

Beautiful tale in magical world. Remember all these beautiful moments from the past that brings you joy. Neverending story, hobit or Narnia. All lies here ready to be read by your eyes.
Control three fearless heroes into a jouney to save the prince from evil. Each one of them gives you unique gameplay with their special combined powers that helps you fix and unsolved many puzzles.
Stuning beautiful graphics makes this 2D platformer even more unique to this genre. Trine series going still strong and Im happy to wait for another one in the future.

This game works really well if you crave more co-op gameplay after finishing ''It takes two''. Great graphics. Fun, accessible, not overly complicated puzzles. Abilities are a bit limited. Well worth the money on a 75% discount.

Trine 4 is a platforming masterpiece. Having beaten the main story as well Melody of Mystery, I'm still in disbelief as to how varied the level design is throughout the game. It's an absolute blast to play through with a friend, and you may find yourself spending a fair bit of time admiring the scenery and design.

Wasn't optimistic since I obtained as a humble bundle side game and had no information about the game prior.
Played 4 player coop via remote play (which worked very well with no issues) and a bonus that we only needed one copy since it's remote. Enjoyable with a steady puzzle difficulty incline. Fun to work together and also to sabotage your friends.

It is a much simpler game than the first 2 trine games.
The puzzles are also too easy.
It also uses a ridiculous of GPU processing for the low level of graphics being displayed.

This is the perfect sequel and the best game in the series (at the time of release). It's large, colorful and fun! The locations is still taken straight from an unimaginable fairy tale and now they are even more fantastic! Along with this, the divine soundtrack creates an incredibly pleasant atmosphere. The gameplay is back to the origins. «Trine 4» combines all the best from previous games. The puzzles aren't difficult or easy. They can be solved in a variety of ways, depending on how you use the skills. The story is nice and the game save / battle / other mechanics are refined. It's a pleasure to play such a good game and a fabulous adventure!

THE GOOD:
+ Once again, the graphics, atmosphere and setting are jaw droppingly gorgeous. Every level feels alive with each level having its own distinct environment

+ Puzzle solving is extremely well done, where the game gradually introduces new mechanics and slowly ramps up the difficulty. Most of the puzzles do a good job of utilizing all three characters and given the physics nature of the game you can solve puzzles multiple ways. It feels extremely satisfying to solve puzzles.

+ The game does a fantastic job of tracking your collectables. You can easily see which collectables you are missing and go back into the level and search for them within a specific checkpoint. Finding all collectables allows you to unlock a secret easter egg in the main menu which I thought was cool.

+ Bosses do a good job of utilizing each character’s strength as you try to figure out how to beat them.

THE AVERAGE:
+ Combat scenarios take place sporadically throughout each level to offer a break with the platforming and puzzle solving. The knight character is the best suited for this task but feels less engaging as you just hack and slash enemies and jump around to avoid damage.

CONCLUSION:
Another great game in the Trine series. This is definitely more streamlined than the previous entries but that isn’t a bad thing as this game really focuses on its strengths and really allows you to soak in the graphics and solve some really clever puzzles.

Great couch co-op experience. The level design is excellent and does not bore. The story is simple, yet the game is about solving puzzles with friends, with each of your characters having various set of abilities. With great company you will play it untill morning and won't notice the light outside the windows.

I highly recommend this game for puzzle lovers where you can play it single players, co-op, multiplayer and the game is changing the format and by the number of players. For example if you started the story co-op you can't pass the level alone, you have to cooperate with your partner/s to solve it. If you choose to play it single player, the game will provide you the sufficient things to pass it alone. The design is fantastic ( you are actually in a fantastic world lol) and the story is entertaining.
That being said enjoy it!

The last Trine i had played a while ago was Trine 2 which was beautiful! Nevertheless chapter 4 of the series is absolutely stunning and the design of the levels is magnificent! Frequently you will catch yourself staying around just to gaze at the spectacular environments. Moreover prepare for many ...environmental riddles (as i call them) during which our heroes will have to combine their unique skills in order to resolve some elaborate puzzles. All in all there is nothing bad to say about this game due to the fact i had a lot of fun and it definitely had a more than satisfying duration so go for it guys!!!

Summary

A solid sequel, maintaing the usual quality from the series (not counting Trine 3). Some new upgrades/mechanics and lots of puzzles. My favourite still is Trine 2, but a good game overall.
The expansion/DLC (Melody of Mystery) is good too. It adds a few extra levels with more of the same formula, but it's also cheap.
Can't tell about the multiplayer experience because I've played alone.

Pros/Cons

+ Very gorgeous 2.5D graphics
+ Really nice soundtrack (both main game and DLC)
+ A few new mechanics and lots of puzzles to make use of it.
+ Level select with checkpoints system that makes easy to collect everything

- Terrible combat, with repetitive and messy regular fights.
- Story is pretty average. Nothing special.

Achievements

No specific challenges here. If you are playing and also collecting everything, you will also get 100% of the achievements when you are done. No achievements related to the DLC

Technical

The game runs pretty well with no slowdowns. I have a i7 7700k / 5700XT and the game did fine between 100~150fps with everything at the highest settings. But just to mention that the game crashed once the first time I played.
Despite it's a platformer, I played using mouse/keyboard and recommend it. It's so much easier to aim and control objects.

System requirements are very forgiving- I was able to play with my wife on an old ideapad U530 with two game controllers plugged in and HDMI output to our TV. That's below the published sys req and the game worked flawlessly. One important thing to do is make sure the only video being output is to the TV- if you are mirroring from the laptop it creates major lag for some reason.

Also, the puzzle design is great for two players where one is more capable, as one player can be two characters and the less capable player can be the third player. We had a blast playing all the way through, highly recommended!

Overall, Trine 4 is a fantastic, beautiful and extremely enjoyable game to play. Originality may not have been high up on the list of priorities by the time this fourth outing rolled around but everything, from the sumptuous visuals to the audio, everything is tip top. For people who have played previous Trine titles, this one may be the best one yet. It’s a remarkably solid side scrolling title and what seems to be a welcome change from the ill-fated Trine 3. I didn’t honestly think Trine 4 would enrapture me as much as it has, particularly when tackling the multiplayer. If you’ve played and enjoyed and title in the Trine franchise before, you’re very likely to love this one, so grab a few friends and enjoy.

Este juego vuelve a mandar Trine al juego 2D que tan bien funcionó en Trine 2. Los controles están más refinados, los gráficos son mejores que nunca, y la historia se centra en traer niveles diferentes para poder disfrutar del colorido e imaginación de la saga. Seguramente el mejor de la saga, si os gustan los plataformas es un must.

Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince, despite being one of the easier puzzle games and not featuring any story depth, provides a vast amount of different riddles, a beautiful fairytale-like world and lots of fun, especially when playing the multiplayer mode.

Classic Trine: beautiful environments, clever puzzles, and fun narrative. I don't remember there being as much combat in previous games as this one, but it's all good.

This game is stunning, graphically, and the controls are very smooth and simple. Playing with friends is very fun, and the different characters have unique abilities and talents that make solving puzzles in multiple ways possible. The puzzles overall aren't too difficult (med-easy), but they're fun all the same. Compared to the other games in the Trine series, this is probably the best one.

The last boss is WAY more difficult than anything else, though, and I don't know why. Compared to the other combat encounters, it was extremely difficult, and that didn't necessarily make it fun. It just made it frustrating.

The story is okay. It's not all that engaging, to be honest, but the gameplay and appearance of the levels more than makes up for it anyway.

9/10, last boss sucks, everything else is awesome.

Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince is a platformer with puzzle and RPG elements. A fabulous and very interesting toy. With beautiful graphics and excellent physics.
In general, I recommend the game, feel free to buy and start playing this wonderful game!

This is easily one of my top favorite puzzle games. At least with others. I haven't played alone, but the gameplay is incredibly fun when I play with other friends , or my little sisters. It's really forgiving and made me feel creative for almost every solution I came up with. I havent played the other Trines, but this one is great!

I do feel the combat difficulty ramps up a little fast compared to the puzzle difficulty.

I really want to like this game, its very similar to Trine 2 and what I did play was enjoyable. However after 11 hours of gameplay, my save file vanished. Apparently this has happened to others, I tried various fixes to no avail. Started over and played another 5 hours to get back to near where I was. The game deleted my save file again.
Seems like these bugs should be ironed out after all this time. Very frustrating. Don't buy unless you want to risk playing the same levels at least 3 times over.

This game is great. It's both for Trine fans and anyone who likes puzzle-platformers.

I really enjoyed playing it. Puzzles are quite good and kept me thinking throughout the game and they are not obnoxious as it sometime happens. Occasional combat is very good too. I went from chaotically shooting arrows to actually using skills and tactics.

It's also very pretty. It's so pretty in fact that I ran our of video memory when I crank textures to the max and I have 8GB of VRAM. The environment is simply stunning. It's very detailed, makes you feel you're inside a fairy tale. I also like character models. They are properly stylized and detailed.

Oh, and it's funny too. I love it when the heroes crack jokes and it made me giggle quite a few times. I like the story too. When I though I had enough of Trine they give me something fresh.

And on top of that it's very completionist-friendly.

To start off my review I will say I've enjoyed the 3 previous games as well. I think 3 is probably the weakest game in the series overall. So far I feel 4 is more of a return to how good the first two games were. New abilites and enemies have added more enjoyment to the game for me at least. The game is also very nice to look while playing on my aging pc.

Overall I'd definitely recommend the game to anyone who has played the previous games or is looking for a new puzzle/platformer to play. Also has co-op but haven't tried it myself

If you can ignore the fact that the guy you spend the entire game trying to save is a worthless prick that doesn't deserve saving even then I can safely guarantee to you that The Trine 4 is up and beyond on all the games in the series that were before it.

The developers at Frozenbyte surely have accepted criticism for their last game and made something that is completely faithful to the original spirit of the Trine games and yet more than that, arguably the best-created Trine game yet.

The first and the second game will always have a special place in my heart, they were the start of the Trine and the beginning of something beautiful but Trine 4 was innovative yet faithful and with nice new features and ways of expanding on the good old heroes of ours and giving them new tricks and tools to help them navigate whatever troubles befell them in their search this time, not for the Trine, but rather for something else.

The bad out the way first - Puzzles are a bit crap, especially compared with the older games. Some of them towards the end of the game even feel as though the developers were running out of ideas, so they just put some random crap there as filler.

- The ambush battles are a little repetitive.

- Abilities have been dialled back. For example, in the previous games, more specifically the first and second games, you could conjure a lot better objects with Amadeus the Wizard. And could even use the planks in a sort of magic carpet kind of way. It was just something cool that you could do while experimenting.

Pontius the Knight could use his shield to glide and could charge earlier on. It would have been a nice feature if these skills / abilities could have passed over to add a nice continuity and reward from the previous games.

Now onto the good.

You know when we were kids, a lot of us we were told stories of fairy tales. And without seeing much of anything, our imaginations would spark images so magically beautiful and enchanting. The Trine games conjure all that up into wicked game format. and Trine 4 is no exception. Everything from the gorgeous music to the magically beautiful levels, it all comes together like THE most wicked potion ever ????????

Great in single player, or in local and online co-op. The controller support is pretty good too, I'd rather chill and use an old ps2 controller to play these games, and it works great.

Definitely recommend. Just keep an open mind when it comes to the ability thing, or it may disappoint you a little.

I'm writing the same review for all Trine games except the third - Trine is a mesmerising game with beautiful graphics and a fun storyline. I recommend playing with friends and not looking up any of the solutions to the riddles, as that's half the fun.

Trine 4 is a great game with a lot of fun to be had.

I was happy to see Trine go back to how the first two games played, while also keeping some better ideas from the third game. Trine 4 has some fantastic platforming levels and puzzles. The combat feels better, the puzzles feel better and the world design is still as fantastic like older Trine games.

If you are a fan of the series, then i can easily say that this is a must have.
Fan of platforming and puzzles? get it. you wont be dissapointed.

I wanted Trine 4 to be an upgrade to Trine 2, similar to how Trine 2 was an upgrade to Trine 1. Well, I can’t say that it was, and while Trine 2 remains my absolute favourite of the series, Trine 4 is still enjoyable, despite feeling underwhelmed by certain flaws.

First, here’s my list of pros:
- The game keeps its fantastic visuals and offers the same brilliant fairy-tale atmosphere of the previous games.
- The graphics are significantly improved.
- Once again, the music is wonderful and adds a lot to the experience.
- The game is longer.
- The new level-screen is convenient in finding all secrets (however, it’s impractical and slow to navigate through).
- There’re new abilities like Zoya’s grappling hook can now be attached on Amadeus’ boxes.

And here’s a series of things that range from inferior to bad:
I’ll start with an early minor issue; the game didn’t recognize my Logitech controller (which Trine 2 did). I solved this using Steam’s ‘Big Picture’ and ticking some boxes in settings, so that’s okay.

- Wizard boxes:
Amadeus now conjures only a one-size box. No more small and big boxes. You don’t “draw” the box and you can’t point to where you want it conjured. All boxes immediately appear on top of Amadeus with the press of a button. This means that you can’t place a conjured box in an area blocked for Amadeus.

- Wizard levitation controls:
Levitating objects are highlighted and you have to select the one you want to levitate (with up & down) and then levitate it. In Trine 2 you use a cursor system: point to the object and lift it up at once. The two methods sound similar but I find the cursor much more convenient and faster.

- Switch between Knight to Thief:
Here’s a very specific change from Trine 2 that I’ve noticed during combat: When you hold the shield up as Pontius and switch to Zoya, she’s not automatically having her arrow drawn and ready to shoot at the same direction. Instead, you have to draw the arrow again and target, which causes a delay.

- Thief grappling hook:
In Trine 2, Zoya’s hook can be attached to any wooden surface which gives a sense of freedom. In Trine 4 it only attaches to pre-defined (and highlighted) hooks. I find this a step backwards; on my next issue I’ll tell you why.

- Puzzles:
Puzzles in Trine 1 and 2 range from easy to very-hard. In Trine 4, the majority of the puzzles range from easy to average-ish; in fact, Trine 4, especially up until the fourth act, feels like it was made for people who are new and inexperienced to the series. Part of the reason for this, comes from the aforementioned highlighted areas/objects that make a significant portion of the puzzles feel like a tutorial, as if the game “shows” to you the solution. For example, if you see a highlighted hook, you immediately know that you have to use it. If there’re two, then both of them must be used, otherwise they wouldn’t be there; that’s what the game teaches you from the start. However, I must point out that there are multiple exceptions in the Acts IV and V and you will find plenty ‘Trine 2’-type puzzles there, that indeed require your creativity.

- Combat:
The only part of the game that I’ll describe as straight up disappointing. In Trine 2 you are attacked by a variety of goblins. This occurs organically in the game and combat is fun and engaging, no matter if it’s repetitive at times. In this game, the combat takes place in a closed smoky environment that feels more like an out-of-nowhere mini-game rather than an integrated part of the level. Once the frame locks, everything turns into a mess. Enemies attack you from left and right and it’s unclear how they cause damage to you. Your shield is not as useful as Trine 2, since it breaks and re-appears. Platforms get in your way of shooting, yet don’t seem to block enemy attacks which even change their routes to reach you. You can’t strategize; you can only rapidly hit the enemies with the Pontius’ sword, since Zoya’s bow is too slow compared to the attacks. I doubt that you can finish those mini games without losing health when playing only as Zoya or Amadeus. To top it all off, dying in combat feels useless as you re-spawn in seconds without the help of the checkpoint orbs that Trine 2 has.

- Bosses:
So basically, there’re are 4 sub-bosses and the final boss: There’s a nightmare wolf boss, 3 nightmare bosses (1 for each hero) and the nightmare prince. Aside from Amadeus’ boss, which is a long and unexciting puzzle-solving procedure, all the others were quite nice, especially the Pontius one where he fights 3 knights. As for the final boss, it took me 4 tries to finish him and overall, I’ll rate his difficulty as average.

Now, I get the feeling that since I spent more time on the cons, I may sound like I dislike the game. I don’t. The overall experience of the game does overshadow the flaws, which I sort-of started getting used to by sometime during the third act. Finally, Trine 4 is fun and offers the unique vibes that made me enjoy the first two Trines so very much.

I finished the game and collected all 39 achievements in 25 hours.

In short, if you are going to play coop, stay away from this game and play trine 2, if you go solo, wait for a low price.

It is a bad trine and a average game. I consider Trine 2 one of my favourite games, and using Trine 2 as a standard of quality, this game is just bad.

It seems impressive that they were able to make such a bad coop game after coming from Trine 2. (Trine 3 does not exist, dont talk about it)

The main problems from the game is:
- It is made for consoles
- It is made for just one player

I played it with my friends on coop and it was a nightmare, the only reason why we completed it was because we were finding new ways to break the game with its quirky physics and mechanics. We laught a lot with thanks to it, but the game's own fun was totally unexisting.

Ignoring that, the game is just a mess, almost every puzle is prepared to be solved by just using one character and the dificulty/quality of the puzzles is really really low.
The had to nerf the character's hability in order to make it fit for console and as a result the puzzles are just stupid and very small.

Everytime that we were solving a puzzle we were having a feeling that we were breaking it, not solving it. That was also possible on Trine 2 but that game used to have bigger rooms with multiple solutions due to the habilities of the differnt characters, this game pressents small rooms with one possible solution that you are not doing if you play coop.

If you play on coop, you will only use one of the 3 characters and unless you are the mage, you will get bored as fuck.

The archer is probably the worst and most boring of all of them, she is totally useless. The mage and the warrior can and will skip most of the puzzles by just jumping arround or abussing from the phisics of boxes + charge. In our case, mage and warrior were just rushing puzzles and then, helping the archer to pass unless it was stricty necesarry to use one of her habilities.

Combat is just horrible, Trine 2 had a meh combat but this game is even worst, the mage is totally useless and it cant barely do anything.

Trine 2 used to had big rooms for combat with some level of strategy or any variety like spikes, traps etc, this game does forget about that and instead you get trapped in an small room with a few platforms and 0 fun.

I could keep writing a lot more about how bugged, bad designed, boring and disappointing this game was but you should get the idea.

This is a hard thumbs up from me and here's why:
I loved Trine 1&2, 3 as we all know wasn't the best aproach.
Frostbyte played it safe with the 4th game (a little to safe tbh) and come back to the original 2d-puzzle-platformer recipe that made the franchise famous.
The art-style is stunning as in the rest of the series, the soundtrack is good but I find it to be kinda, I don't know... plain. It's almost the same background music for all levels.

And that's the word, I would describe this game... plain

The best thing about this series, at least in my opinion, is the story-telling. It really makes you feel like you are part of a fantasy book.
But the plot itself was too simple and it didn't catch my interest.

A prince was locked up in the Astral Academy and got out. The team was reunited yet again to find him and bring him back. He stole a talisman that makes nightmares come to life- alas the name The Nightmare Prince.

I thought it was a little stupid how the team meets the prince at the final of each (or almost each) level, having a little discussion with him and after that he walks away...
The gameplay itself was yet again- plain, nothing new (it even had some downgrades from the first two game like Amadeus can move his stuff in only four points and his ability to make different sized objects or that Zoya can grapple only to fixed points. For me it's not a big deal but I thought it was worth mentioning it.)
I give it a thumbs up because in essence it's a good game. The developers realised their mistake and came back to 2d. But I think Trine 4 did not match the first two games that made many of us love this series.

The puzzles are unique and challenging, the multiplayer and teamwork aspects are a ton of fun, the collectibles are abundant and well hidden... but none of those things are why I'm taking the time to write this. There were multiple moments along the way where I literally had to scrape my brain off the wall because of how visually stunning this game was, especially in the later chapters. Every level delivers a completely different but equally beautiful scene with details on details and an infinite number of things to notice. The lighting, the art style, the characters, everything is so in-sync and perfect. I'm not someone who leaves many reviews, but I feel obligated to these developers to say thank you for passionately skull f*cking my eye sockets to completion with one of the most gorgeous games I have ever played.

Trine 4 is one of my favorite platform-adventure game with its unique & gorgeous atmosphere. It's really fun to play as it has different kinds of puzzles and enemy types that is variable during the whole game. And I'm sure that it's inevitable to find yourselves in a fabulous tale while the storryteller, which is one of my favorite element in the game, tells you the story. I didn't even tell you about the amazing and relaxing soundtrack... Although sometimes game controls can go a little wacky it's absolutely worth to play this great game with it's cheap price!!

Trine is back to its roots with this 4th opus, well sort of, the game looks amazing as it always does. But what happened to combat ?

Combat sequences all seemed like they were afterthoughts. When you first see the pink platforms pop out, it's quite jarring ! It all seems like they didnt plan to have combat or something then added it later. Combat sequences felt way more organic in previous iterations.

As for puzzles, visuals, exploration and sounds, this is good stuff, It also feel like quite a long game but the character progression is too slow. Unlocking abilities feels like a drag sometimes.

But still, Trine 4 is a charming and relaxing puzzle game with vibrant and pleasing visuals. Definitely worth grabbing on a sale.

Trine 4 is the best of the series. The puzzles are just hard enough, and never get to repetitive. Trine 2 use to be my favorite of the series, but 4 does a few things better.
1) Controls: The controller is better mapped out now, and Amadeus is much easier to control. The old way of conjuring boxes was clunky, and I would use a keyboard and mouse for Trine 2 even though Pontius and Zoya were better with a controller.
2) Puzzles: I'm skipping Trine 3 here because it was so buggy and auful I never finished it. The puzzles in Trine 4 are the best yet. In previous versions Amadeus did most of the puzzle work with Zoya doing most of the parkour work, and Pontius doing most of the fighting. Trine 4 gives the 3 characters more balanced puzzle solving abilities, and it was a welcome improvement apon the origianl concept. I often found myself needing to switch between all three characters to solve puzzles.
3) Fighting: The fighting in Trine 4 is overall improved. The fighting does not get to repetitive, and the boss fights have more to do with puzzle solving than button mashing. I appreciate the effort that was taken here to make each boss unique.

Overall great game and worth the money.

I'm glad they saw their mistakes from the 3rd one.

All in all it is a good game, but i'd sooner recommend 1&2.

Do wonder what happened to the trine itself (the artifact that gives the game it's name).... maybe this is explained in the third one, but as i absolutely refuse to play that one i'll never know.

The puzzles are good, the right amount of challenge for my simple brain.
The combat is just as smooth as it was in trine 2.
The enviroments are gorgeous.
That being said, I'm not a fan of the character models during the cutscenes, however a friend of mine does like them so that may just be me.

A misfit group of heroes join together to solve a mystery of a runaway prince and a shadow magic that haunts him. Fun to play co-op with your kid/s. Neat puzzles and classic side-scrolling with very colorful and interesting artwork/scenery. My son and I are little over half-way through and it's just a relaxing game that saves pretty often, so dying isn't a huge setback. The physics are good, things work as they should. The previous 3 Trine games are worth looking at, too. My son was very excited to play Trine 4 after we played the other three. There are a few bugs that we've come across, such as the wizard wouldn't summon his boxes and small stuff like that. Restarting the game fixed the issue and we didn't lose much if any progress. Overall it's an 9 out of 10 for kid-friendly games. It gets happy bias points because I love the series and there aren't very many interesting kid games out there, let alone fun, easy co-op games.

Actually quite rare but its a fourth part of the Trine trio adventures and in my opinion the best one. Splendid graphics, interesting puzzles and boss fights and well polish combat that doesn't feel forced. A must have for those that loved Trine 2.

So far I have played and finished all Trine games. With Trine 4 it took me a while but I finally decided to buy it and play it with a friend.

For those who don't know yet, Trine 4 is a 2.5D puzzle/adventure game. Let's first jump to one of the best things about Trine 4(or any of the Trine's for that matter).
The scenery looks absolutely amazing and you'll come across beautiful diverse locations every level. One moment you're walking in a castle, and the next moment you're in a beautiful breathtaking forest.
This together with some good soundtracks makes for a wonderful journey on itself.

As said before Trine is a puzzle game. You walk through levels and need to solve puzzle after puzzle. These puzzles aren't the most difficult but especially with a friend to play with their fun to mess around with and solve.
Some of them are solvable within seconds, others need a bit of thinking behind them. All of this with some small combat sections in between. I played all Trines so far with a friend, either local or online and it makes it 100x times.
Messing around in the levels, playing around with the puzzles and your skills and of course annoy your friend is a blast.

Zooming in on the combat, it's becoming tedious. It was never a strong point of the series and it's fun to have combat sections but the characters just aren't build for the amount of combat that gets thrown at you.
At one point there was a combat section after every 2 puzzles or so and every time it was the exact same boring mouse button spam with the knight. The wizard isn't suitable for combat and the archer is just a slower weaker version of the knight in terms of combat.

Now coming from Trine 1,2 and 3 I really hoped they would renew the characters. Sadly they didn't. The characters where never all that interesting to begin with, but were fun to play with the first couple of times. Sadly they slowly become repeatable this time around.
They did introduce some new mechanics like they did in every game so far, but since their core skills are the same every game it just felt lacking. I really hope they introduce new characters with a good backstory in the next Trine.
Also the introduction of how they come together is feeling repetitive. Every game it's kind off the same. One good thing about the existing 3 characters is they all play different with their own unique skills.
Luckily you do have the option to upgrade your character and unlock some awesome new mechanics but 50% of these upgrades already existed in previous Trine games.

It might look like I'm only criticizing the game a lot, But the game at it's core is still a fun Trine game, and like other's it's a blast to play with a friend. But it's time for some serious innovation. New environments, new characters and completely new mechanics.
Overall, I still recommend this game if you're looking for a fun co-op game with a friend. If you're planning on playing this by yourself, you might get bored after a while. Now is it the best Trine? No. If you have never played the Trine games I would suggest starting with Trine 1/2/3, however if you finished those and you're looking for more Trine this will absolutely fill your needs and be an enjoyable game.

I'm still a bit salty from 3 feeling so unfinished, but I have to admit they are back on form for 4. It's back to 2d (not that I minded the 3d in particular), and most importantly the terrible collection based progress blockers are not present.
This game has some of the best puzzles of the series, especially in co-op, there was a lot more synergy between the characters rather than in previous games where each puzzle was usually designed with 1 character in mind. Oddly enough however the combat felt like it went in the other direction, I played the archer and rarely felt useful in combat with the Wizard's slam one shotting practically everything.
in co-op, I got all the achievements just fine, but it seemed to save progress only for the host, which was a bit annoying. I had to add skill points every time I joined and none of the collectables appeared in my main menu, so that was a shame, but not enough to ruin the experience.

I miss Trine 1 & 2. I even enjoyed 3 overall compared this one. This had such a good start and slowly chipped away at itself until there was nothing left enjoyable, but a lazily made crap fest of WTF at best. What happened to this dev team, they lose their entire creative talent. I wanted a sequel to Shadowgrounds. So glad that did not happen. It seems like this installment only got play tested half way through. They blew it with 3, but apologized and really that one was not bad, just lacking, but a great step in foundation. This is based on their tried and true method and this is what they came up with, just sad. I do not look forward to anymore games from this developer and would recommend forgetting them entirely.

It's unbelievable to me how such a casualized and forgettable game can once again get highly positive reviews. This game is much worse than the ones before this. The first one was clever with the physics and had good graphics, second one was slightly more advanced, harder (if you wanted) and deeper. Third one was really short, but still passable I recall, at least with three players. I have played every Trine game with company, even this fourth one, but I have to say none of us thought this game is any legit. The problems are following:

- Graphics although good, not significantly upgraded.
- Every character can fight and jump well, so less variation.
- Puzzles are dirt simple.
- Battles at least with three players are even easier.
- There is no penalty from dying, you just instantly spawn back.
- There is no mana, no free upgrade path, nothing, just hop forward and barely think.
- The story was never important to Trine, but here it's just plain bad.

This game is a letdown to say the least. I'd say very little kids could enjoy this, but any adult player who is not a very casual gamer, like one who plays every game on the easiest difficulty and doesn't want any pressure, might enjoy this. Otherwise, do not waste your money and time. And yes, we completed the game and collected pretty much everything possible.

After the somewhat disappointing third outing, Trine 4 makes a return to its formidable 2D roots. Though not my favorite of the series (that honor still falls to the magnificent Trine 2), Trine 4 is still thoroughly enjoyable and incredibly fun!

Not much has changed: Trine 4 sees our three heroes return to a colorful mashup of platforming, puzzles and combat although this mix feels a little bit off at times: pretty much all of your time is spent on solving intricate platforming puzzles in which you have to use all your (mostly physics based) skills to make progress. There are arena-style battles strewn throughout the levels to break up the monotomy of the puzzles but these battles are quite repetitive and pointless. I would have much preferred a more organic placement of monsters and enemies.

However, this is just a small blemish on the wonderful experience: Trine 4 has an excellent and colorful art style, the animations look better than ever before and the levels are absolutely beautiful. The game also offers a lot of content: even the smallest of the 20 levels will take at least one hour to fully complete. Luckily, you can restart a level at any checkpoint, making it really easy to get all of the collectibles, a feature that I really love as a completionist!

As always, Trine is best enjoyed with a friend. I played through this in co-op mode and my partner and I had a blast. Highly recommended! 8/10

It's a Trine game. If you enjoyed the first 2, you'll like this one. Trine 3 tried some 3-D stuff that was very hit or miss. Trine 4 goes back to restricting the action to a 2-D plane and it's just as good as ever. A superb game in a fantastic series. Go buy 'em already! Also, the couch co-op is phenomenal, and it's one of the few game series' that my wife will suggest we play out of the blue.

Don't buy it if you want to play with your friend. I restarted steam 6 times so i can just ply once with him and after a little dc i couldn't connect at all. i mean yeah i connected 2 times again with this hardcore way but wtf man? If you have a same IP you can't connect together? Shame on Trine 4 then. trine 1 and 2 and 3 were better on connecting

Classic trine game with cool new features to use. Story was good, no goblins finally. Personally I was very happy with checkpoint loading for achievement completion. Final boss was good challenge, also puzzles got me thinking more compare to trine 3.

The good:
· Insanely good art, possibly the best I've seen in this style.
· Music and audio continue to be really good.
· Puzzles start off as very gentle and gradually pick up the difficulty, few of the secret areas spotting some very good ones. Many puzzles can be solved in a large number of ways by utilising different character skills.

Not as good:
· In change to previous games, combat segments in Trine 4 are represented by small arenas (you enter a section, walls close off, some enemies and platforms spawn, you kick their butts, walls open), which are not very varied. Boss fights are not affected and are still good.
· Unlocks work slightly oddly with multiplayer - if you are not the one hosting the game, your journal does not get filled with newly found items and you do not get progression items for the main menu easter egg.

Overall would highly recommend.

Frozenbyte learnt from mistake made in Trine 3, drop the 3D and served us, the probably best Trine of series. Progressing and upgrading skills was reworked - you unlock characters skills by progressing in story and fighting mandatory (trivial) fights. XP bottles known from series are used to upgrade unlocked skills. now I'm thinking, to be objective, i need to replay trine 2 :)

TLDR: beautiful game with amazing graphic and soundtrack and not so hard puzzles/fights. I caught myself several times smiling while playing this game. only con is that this game is over.

I have waited a long time before buying this, because Trine 3 was such a disaster but Trine 4 is back to old form again!

It's a shame that their vision for the full 3D movement in the last game didn't work out but clearly their usual 2.5D games are better off.

Trine 4 also has a completely new story from 3 even though that ended on a cliff hanger but my guess is that they want people to just forget Trine 3.

There are one or two new gimicks in the game like the ability to walk on ropes but other than that it plays exactly like Trime 1&2.

Generally nice to have Trine back.

Excellent rendition in the Trine series. Best game to date, exceptional puzzle creation. Must be played Co-Op for the greatest result, and people you can talk to in real time. Ideally friends you can yell at for throwing wizardy bouncing balls in your face constantly and still have a laugh.

Enjoyable game. I recommend it, but with a couple of complaints, though.

The good:
Beautiful game to look at. Best looking game of the series.
The full models for the cutscenes was a great addition. Gave the characters even more personality.
Very atmospheric music.
Voice acting is wonderful. Particularly love the narrator.

The compaints:
They really dumbed down Amadeus. Now instead of drawing a box or plank, you just press a hotkey and the object appears above his head. You can still draw the items, but they will appear above Amadeus' head and always the same size. You used to be able to draw a box over an enemy and drop it on them. Now you have to levitate it over to the enemy. And you used to be able to make small objects.

Although the puzzle stuff is top notch as it's always been in the series, the combat has been kind of messed up in this one. When you approach an open area with some smoke in it, it means combat is coming. You enter the area and not only do the enemies appear, but the platforms on which you're going to fight them appear. It's like the combat doesn't even take place in the level. After you defeat the enemies, the platforms disappear and you go on your way.

I pre-ordered this game and played it as soon as it came out and since I just love the Trine games I 100% completed it in a few days.
Since the entire Trine series has a special place in my heart this review will probably be a bit long. So short answer:

Is this game good? Yes.
Did we get what we were promised? Yeah I think so.
Did Trine 4 turn out to be the best game in the series? No. (I still think Trine 2 is the best.)

The developers promised to make a good Trine game by combining all the good things from the previous games and that's exactly what they did. I really appreciate it when devs keep their promises but despite all that I don't think they managed to make the best Trine game. But that doesn't mean the game is bad.

So let's start with the good things!
The skill tree and the fun boss fights are back and collecting XP no longer feels pointless like in Trine 3! You really need to use all three characters and their special abilities to be able to complete the game. The puzzles change in multiplayer depending on how many people are playing (while it's usually just a small change it's still better than nothing).
Also collecting all the knick-knacks is definitely worth it. Without saying much it unlocks an easter egg that just shows that the devs care about the series. That was probably my favorite part in the whole game.

And now the bad things.
While I was happy to see that the skill tree was back I feel like it could have been done better. Many of the abilities were just recycled from the previous games while other abilities just upgraded the skills the game just gave you for free at specific points in the story for no reason at all other than to add more to the gameplay. Speaking of gameplay I didn't really like how they handled the combat system. There were some good ideas there like how Pontius's shield breaks after a while (don't worry you get it back shortly! Image it as a cooldown mechanic). I liked that because the shield almost made you invincible in the previous games so I think that was clever. What I really didn't like was how the game just enclosed you into this small area when a fight began. It felt very limiting. Also Zoya still can only use her grappling hook on those stupid rings. I miss being able to swing on any wooden surface.
And then there was the final boss... I really liked all the bosses in this game but the final boss was very disappointing. Without spoiling anything all I will say is that all the other bosses had fun and unique mechanics except the final boss. It literally had 2 kinds of attacks and it wasn't even fun. It was frustrating. It was almost impossible to dodge the attacks and one of the two attacks killed you instantly. Don't get me wrong I love challenging games or fights but this wasn't enjoyable at all.

Another thing I'd like to note (and this is not a bad thing) is that I feel like this game was made for a younger audience. The cartoonish graphics, the goofy animal characters and the simple and straight forward story all suggest that. I also felt like the majority of the puzzles were really easy but I don't know if that's because they intentionally made them more simple for the younger players this game was probably designed for or if it's because I'm just good at the game because I play a lot of games like this one.

I realize it looks like I said more bad things about the game than good but that's just because I wanted to explain what I disliked in more detail. Overall it's a game worth playing if you are into the Trine series!

After me and a friend hearing this was coming out, we both got excited. We have played the entire Trine series up to date and now that we've started playing it, we are glad that they have finally made a sequal to Trine 2. Not sure why they skipped a number though... [spoiler] If the sarcasm of this is lost on you, I don't know what to say =P [/spoiler]

As usual, the game sports beautiful locations, a wonderful soundtrack and great voice acting. (I'm glad they still have the original people for the main roles/narrator)

The controls are still good as well as the multiplayer 'cheeze' of certain puzzles which is both fun and hilarious.

Al in all, this is finally the real successor to the Trine series.

Hilarious puzzle platformer that's better with friends. I only wish the game's content was longer.
