Über das Spiel

Ultimate Admiral: Dreadnoughts aims to be the first game of its kind - a true naval warfare game - which offers a unique opportunity to design and build countless variations of realistic looking warships combined with an extremely in-depth and realistic combat model. We are absolutely excited with what we are making and we hope everyone who is interested about the dreadnought era and naval warfare, will join our ambitious project and support us.

BUILD THE BATTLESHIPS THE WAY YOU WANT
Become the architect of powerful warships, from small torpedo boats to mighty Battleships! Recreate famous ships such as the HMS Dreadnought and countless speculative designs. Pick turret layout, armor scheme, funnel placement, tower variations making each ship look and feel unique. Their hull characteristics, internal upgrade selection and weight distribution not only modifies their speed and maneuverability but also their weapon effectiveness. Every design detail of your warships has a significant effect on the combat capability of your ships.

STRONG AI
Naval combat becomes immersive and feels even more realistic when your opponent is able to react to your actions with a human-like and unexpected behavior. The AI evaluates the optimal engagement distance, using principles of the “Immunity Zone” and comparing its own firepower versus your ships. The AI uses ammunition wisely, holding fire when necessary or switching shell types according to the armor protection of the target. Unless there is a special mission directive, the AI will not act suicidally and will attempt to withdraw, if its fleet becomes heavily damaged or it is much weaker than yours.

NAVAL ACADEMY & CUSTOM BATTLES
The Custom Battle system allows you to experiment and enjoy naval battles utilizing endless combinations of ship designs in technology eras between the years 1890 and 1940 for ten different nations. Additionally, there is the “Naval Academy” which currently includes 58 battle scenarios, where you will have to design a ship or a squadron to fulfill a certain combat tactical task. These numerous missions will allow you to practice and enjoy the many innovative design and combat aspects of the game.

THE CAMPAIGN
You can fully design your fleet, immerse yourself in epic naval battles and make crucial strategic decisions on the map with a single goal to defeat your opponent by annihilating his fleets and strangling his economy. The campaign will be improved during Early access with new content added in every patch.

The game has huge potential, it is likely to become #1 naval sandbox strategy.
- Significant amount of customization, every element added to a ship affects physics (like you can pump your dreadnought with tons of heavy 7' casemate guns, but it will force pitch and roll to skyrocket and thus make your overgunned ship an unstable platform.
- Flash fires are so enjoyable!
- In campaing, it seem the AI really tries to design a counter to your ships.
However, the most imprortant thing to understand that this is not Rule the Waves 2 with fance graphics. Amount of factors to take into account and customization is nowhere near. Ther cons:
- Wierd balance. During 1900-1930 you basically only need battleships. Battlecruisers are too vulnrelable, other classes are too weak while you can easily fight its supposed hard counter: masses of torpedo boats by just building many fast battleships and running away at 27-30 knots.
- Power projection is wierd, once again, cheap battleships (sic!) are best for that. Should it be focused around cruisers and include speed as weel as operational range?
- All designs tend to have weight disbalance between fore and aft offset. For example, if you attempt to build historical BB Revenge, it would have severe fore weight offset. You need to put everything as far to the aft as possible to get close to balance. Some hulls are outright wierd.
- Ship AI is wierd, the AI can't even hold 3 sisterships in a column! It gets really irritating if there is a grand battle with 50+ ships. AI sometimes torps your own ships.
- Revolts in campaign happen too soon. I won my first (normal) campaign within 4 turns, my second (hard) - within 5. We need longer campaigns and less suicidal AI!
- Graphics is meh
- No multiplayer.
Still, the game has great potential.

Steam time not withstanding, I've quite a few hours in this game, due to pre-order outside of steam.

The very 1st video on this page is completely misleading, and the devs know it. It was pointed out to them a year or so ago. And yet it is still there. The player cannot do what the video implies.

False advertising.

So after 35 hours i decide to write review for this game, that was on my whishlist for very long time and i only got it few days ago. So let's start.

If you were fan of games like Rule the Waves and Rule the Waves 2, this game is like that, only in 3d, and much less complicated. In current state (still in early access) game have enough features to keep you occupied for hours, however it may become boring after a while. So what is in game?

You have quite good ship designer, where you can design your own ship. Designer allows you to create super battleships (although this part should be expanded little), battleships, dreadnoughts, pre-dreadnoughts, battlecruisers, heavy and light cruiers and other types of cruisers, destroyers and torpedo boats. There is no submarines which is shame, i wish they add them and there is no carriers (i doubt we will see carriers). When you chose type of ship you want to built, then you chose the hull. You will not be able to chose all battleship/dreadnought (for example) hulls if you chose 1940 era, only the modern hulls for that era will be available. Once you chose that, you then chose the superstructure, there is three parts of it, front (which is where bridge is located), funnel and aft section, there is decent selection of barbets for turrets, also large amount of different caliber turrets from single canon to four cannons, secondary armament, and fixed ones.

You can also chose what type of engine, fuel you will use, rudder, protection against tropedoes.... as well radars, sonars, types of shells, rotation speed for turrets.... there is quite selection. Now is it possible to create replica of your favorite ship, like Iowa, Yamato, Bismarck, Nagato... yes, i dont think all hulls are in game for all the well known ships, but most are. Ship creator is good but it can always be better, more hulls, more parts, more options.

Custom battles. This is great mod for learning, designing ships and test them in battle. You have multiple nations available in this mod: US, UK, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, Austro-Hungary, Russia, China (yes even China despite it never had any big battleship sized ship), Japan. It would be nice to see Netherlands, Sweden and maybe some of Latino American countries, like Brazil, Chile or Argentina in future. You can have grand battles in this mod, but be aware if your pc is weak, more ships, more lag. Its interesting for a while but can be boring after time.

Academy missions. I guess these are tutorial missions, one of real negative thing about this game is lack of real tutorial, but you do have lots of missions where you can slowly learn.

Campaign. I left this for last. Currently from all nations that were present in game you only have British, German, French, Italian and Austro-Hungarian camapigns. They could be set either in 1890-1900-1910-1920-1930-1940 (which in case of Austro-Hungary is highly inacurate since Austro-Hungarian Empire was replaced by first Yugoslavia since 1918). Each of this periods brings number of new technologies, new hulls....
But campaigns were the same, you either play as Austro-Hungary or Germany against French, Italy and Uk, or as one of three allied nations against Germany and Austro-Hungary. No matter which year you place as start, you are immediatley in war, which is bad. There is no real missions, only hitting convoys, attacking enemy battlegroups, if you attack near enemy port and you win you automatically bomb the city. Its not interesting at all. There should be fixed missions based on real events rather then random events that happen on map. Campaigns usually end on random, which again sucks. If you play with Germany and you are defeated or lost most of your fleet and most of your economy is down then it should end but nope. There is no invasions. No possibility to capture enemy ships. Currently campaign isnt the strongest part of this game. Its blank basically.

What could be done to make this game better since it trully have potential.

- In campaign, there should be number of real event missions, or missions that could eventually cripple your enemy. Possibility to bombard enemy port cities, and slow production of ships. Moral points where for every ship you or enemy lose points, or you get points for every ship you destroy.
- Expanding economy. Currently its all automated, you have GDP that you spend for different projects, for example you can increase or decrease research (speed), how fast your crews get promotions and number of transports you built (these are essential for your economy), there is no posibility to built factories to increase your economy, that would be quite nice to add. You also can increase size of shipyards but this is basic it need to be improved as well.
- Port size, having possibility to improve Cities, ports, adding more defense or expanding them so that more ships can dock.
- Removing in being and sea control. For example Adding docked instead in being or on patrol instead sea control.
- Adding scenarios, like battle of Jutland, or falklands, where you are in control of fleet or battlegroup and outcome is purley on your skills. This could be add in main campaign as well. It would greatly improve camapign.
- Adding more different type of ships, like costal frigates, corvettes, submarines...
- Adding camuflages for ships, markings...
- Adding conquest mod. Where you can buildup your fleet and battle you way to victory. Where you can destroy your opponent navy and lay siege and take over the country.
- A full world map for conquest mod (like conquest mod you have in StarWars the Empire at War)
- Improving AI and pathfinding. Its quite terrible now.
- Other nations should have their camapgins as well. To have for example Russo-Japanese war, War on pacific....
Overall this game need a lot more to be truly playable. i deeply respect team that work hard on this game, especially because it is Ukrainian based company from Kyiv, and due all this that happening in Ukraine. It is truly amazing they continue working and releasing 1.05 patch. Hats down gentlemen, working on video game during war, is really impressive.

Now of course there is lots of people who are angry, pissed that game is not finished, that game is blank. Well it is what it is.

If even part of what i write is added to this game, it would be better then it is now. This game hardly worth 36Eur, it is simply to much for game that is not fully finished. 10-15Eur would be better price. But still, i do recommend this game. It has potential to be far better then what is in current state and if you like warships, it is for you definitly.

Game is fun and has great graphics. My only complaint is the developers randomly choose when to end your campaign. They end it cause your winning and before you even have a chance to complete the research projects. Especially since there is just limited campaign options at this point of development. Let me choose when to end. Also, let me choose to rename my ships from the Fleets menu.

This game is a disaster. A hot mess. First it's been stuck rotting slowly in early alpha since April 2019. It cost 60$ to get in early and has had a very slow crawl of a development over the past 3 years. 80% of the hulls and parts in the game are recycled resizes and copy pastes being touted as new and unique. Game play is droll, AI is A and no I, the long promised campaign is at the time of this posting a so premature as to be half formed and mostly nonplayable. Forget it, keep your money. So much possibility squandered.

My steam account says 3 hours but I first got this game on it's standalone launcher in october 2019 and have hundreds of hours in it on there. I once religiously followed the updates, but now, I couldn't care less. I feel scammed, lied to, and taken advantage of.

As of 1.0.5: If you can bare the awfully implemented pathfinding for friendly fleet divisions, that makes controlling more than 4 ships almost an impossibility, it's one of the best RTS naval battle simulators I've ever seen.

If you're into intricate design and playing out the greatest naval battles you can come up with, this is the game. Whether you prefer historical accuracy or your own hand in design, you're covered there too. In just the time I've played, more and more historically accurate items have been added in. There are constant patches and requests to the devs seem to be answered often. There are bugs but like I said, effort is being put in to correct them. Worth the buy.

I quite like the game so far. I've only played as the Germans in the 1890 campaign and part way through the 1900. It takes some figuring out with regards to how to survive a battle when your opponents have a lot of torpedoes and you don't, but that is also kind of the fun of it. I've created some customized ships so far but I think that becomes more important later in the game. Looking forward to continue playing:

Pros:
-Loads like a dream, almost no wait time for me and on some games that is a problem
-Can play as a variety of different ships, Torpedo Boats, light cruisers, heavy cruisers, destroyers and battleships, so battles can be varied a bit, especially when you get into a really big battle
-Action can be intense

Cons:

-Sometimes hard to figure out how things are supposed to work. It's easier to have your ships in a group but then I just don't understand the AI routing so I end up detaching them and trying to move them manually, and even that sometimes is unclear why ships are moving like they are
-The war is just a series of battles. Other than collecting victory points there are no other rewards like greater rank or anything (you dont actually have a character anyway, which I think would improve the experience somewhat)
-I think the crews do gain experience the more tested they are but Im not actually sure. It was much more straight forward in the Ultimate General: Civil War game and also Ultimate Admiral: Age of Sail

The Pros definitely outweight the cons which I think will become less prominent as the game is updated. It does still feel like it needs to be fleshed out a bit. But love it so far.

There's a lot of potential here, but it's just not there yet. The game needs lots of polish, bugfixes, and content before I can recommend this. As it stands, campaigns are very linear and bland, the UI is clunky and slow, and ship squadrons and pathfinding is horrendous. This might be my biggest complaint, once battles grow past a handful of ships things really fall apart. Ships start in squadrons, but when the battle starts the squadrons don't start grouped and in order. Instead they are spread all around your formation, with no input from the player. You then need to sort out your ships/squads before the range closes with your enemy. It's more tricky than it sounds, because there is automatic collision avoidance that you can't turn off (if your ships do hit each other they don't take damage, ramming damage is reserved for enemies). I've had several instances of ships going to completely opposite way that I told them because both ships were trying to get around the other, and they just kept trying to get in front. When you have 20+ ships in battle, you can imagine what a nightmare it is.

I still have high hopes for this game, but for now I don't think it's worth more than $5-10. That being said, development is ongoing, and the developers seem genuinely interested in improving the game, so I'll update this if/when the game gets to a point that I feel it's worth the price tag.

Considering this is an early access game, I think its very good value! I particularly like the ship designer, which gives you a LOT f control over all the variables regarding ship construction that you can think of! The ship editor does have a couple of minor bugs, but nothing show-stopping/

I like the idea of the campaign game, although there's some aspects I havent fathomed properly yet. The combat screen is pretty good, my main gripes being that I find the compass indicator difficult to read (I'm old, eyesight isnt as sharp as it used to be!) and also I find the rudder control very fiddly. But not unusable.

Manually controlled battles are usually quite exciting, although occasionally you do get one where one side decides to run away and the other can't catch them. But that's realistic!

The attention to detail is superb throughout, IMO. Whilst it's sometimes difficult to recreate real life ships exactly, so far I've always been able to get pretty close, and the editr and ship components have already been added to in the short time I've owned the game.

Finally, I use Linux. It can take a little trial and error with the compatability options in Steam in order to get the game to run reliably , depending on what PC kit you have . Mine is an old refurbed PC withmediocre graphics, and it runs well and looks good even on my PC.

An excellent game by the software team in Kiyiv!
