Valley

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2354888710

Soma facility core is one of the best levels I've ever played in my life, it's how peak Game Design looks like, from successfully establishing the baseline of running around in a heavy exoskeleton and granting the freedom of fast movement, to sound design, that adapts to the level perfectly, it is absolutely beautiful. Sometimes less is more, and a well designed level is a richer experience than a shallow open world would be.

Princess Mononoke meets Portal.

I highly recommend playing the game as it flows the first time through. There are secrets and rewards but they aren't necessary and are intended for a second run IMHO.
(Game should take about 4-5 hours playing like this.)

Really great install, clock and uninstall feeling great about it game.
Mechanics are very easy, fun and rewarding.

Relaxing and easy-ride game yet it requires a quite high puzzle-solving abilities. Stunning sceneries combined with relaxing and sometimes heaven-feel soundtracks, this is might be quite a right game to heal your soul.

Regarding the game incapability to be able so make players save the game manually, it is indeed quite uncomfortable, so you'll need to advance to the next checkpoint to save game progress otherwise if you exit without doing so, you'll have to restart from the last checkpoint.

A nice compact game about a Hidden Valley that was being used during WW2 to conduct experiments and other activities i won't spoil. part of those experiments was the suit you wear throughout the game, essentially letting you run jump and traverse the Valley in otherwise impossible routes without the aid of the L.E.A.F suit.

Valley is quite a short game with my 9 hours being 100% completion, but for the price on a sale this is a very good pickup. The environments are a joy to look at and traverse through gaining new abilities as you go. The game is fairly basic in its mechanics, you'll never really have a lot of trouble but that's ok. I enjoy short focused experiences so play through it and soak in the views as you whiz past trees and lakes in your suit while uncovering the mysteries of the Valley.

An under appreciated game that has very much gone under the radar which is quite a shame for how good the game is. Albeit short, the experience & immersion is great and worth the time if you enjoy platforming games. It has some strong atmosphere and audio design, in the same vein as bioshock/half life in terms of game feel. Though I doubt the devs will do more with the series, it's a good use of 5-6 hours.

The mildest of recommendations. By no means bad, but...

If you're new to pc gaming, this is a marvellous low-risk, low-effort, mellow entry point that will give you a memorable experience.

For a more experienced gamer, this is essentially a walking simulator. Gameplay is incredibly straightforward. Very linear levels, which feels odd in a game where the core mechanic is movement. The narrative is laughably absurd. Voice acting is bland. The story is childish morality. The soundtrack uninspired and doesn't support the game much. There's also some convenience issues: no manual saves, and no checkpoint saves if you quit out of the game, There's also no UI indication, that I could find, to aid you in attaining 100% of the collectables, so there's no real point in trying to find them all yourself.

Pretty cool visuals.

Despite all that, I still recommend it if you can pick it up for less than five bucks. There's a few moments where speed and movement provide a genuine thrill. And that, along with the neat visuals, is truly worth something. This concept had much greater potential, but it's not terrible.

It is hard to find a game that can be exciting, without exceeding my abilities, which are limited. So far, this game seems to do that, and that makes it a plus for me.
It looks pretty good, though I recommend turning the brightness all the way.
The music and sound effects are pleasant enough.
The controls can be a bit wonky, worst of all the times when I need to jump and the space bar fails to produce that effect.
That said, the game is very forgiving about dying, and I don't think I've ever had to redo anything more than three or four times.
My biggest frustration is how far you can get from the start of an area. This doesn't impact you when you die, but when you quit out and come back it can be quite far. I can only game for so long before my arm gives out, so this can be irritating.
So far, however, every puzzle was something I could figure out given time, though some took some though, which is the perfect zone for me.
Not sure how far into it I am. I have completed what I think was the first major quest, and I still am invested in pushing forward, which is another good sign.
An easy two thumbs up from me.
ADDENDUM: 9.4 hours playtime, start to finish of the story, though apparently you can go back and explore more. What an adventure! Great story.

A running simulator with a tad more.

Graphics/Audio:
Captivating sceneries (when outside) and a very well suited music track. Relaxing when exploring and engaging when the speed is going up (especially loved the track when in the tunnel rails).

Story/Content & Progress:
I thought the story was so-so and there is just enough amount of content to enjoy all levels. The game delivers at a nice pace though, which keeps you engaged all throughout. Your progress is very much enthralled by the story and seems quite linear at first and although I tried to get as much as possible in my first run, there are small area's (bonus upgrades and collectibles towards all achievements) that will only be available later on when you have the required suit upgrades.

Replayability:
And in my opinion these revisits are really worth it as you then have the full potential to explore as you wish and you'll experience the freedom of your surroundings and the capability of your suit. I remember the excitement and freedom sensation when I first noticed another route would completely have been possible. Spending additional time after story completion to do revisits was enjoyable but once all collectibles are gathered there is unfortunately not much more to it but an empty world.

No manual saves:
Too bad there is no manual save option, although it is true that you can easily skip parts when you revisit/restart a level as shortcuts and other stuff that you unlocked will remain this way in the future.

Game Length:
This game will provide you with a decent 10 to 15 hours of gameplay and fun (depending if you're going for all achievements or not).

Conclusion:
All in all a fun and enjoyable game that got me hooked till the end so I can reassuringly recommend it.

I am a tranquil gamer. I don't like horror, my motor skills and survival instincts are not very well developed and I like good stories and beautiful views that I can enjoy at a pace that is set by me, not by the game.
Valley gives me all of this, plus a challenge now and again: a not too difficult puzzle, a not too challenging shoot out.
The game (and the music!) is beautiful, the story is interesting, the world is magic. And I didn't find it short. Just long enough for the story to be told, leaving enough gaps to be filled in by our own imagination.
So thanks for this secret marvel. Let's keep it to ourselves ;)

I am really enjoying this game. Its sort of a mix of calming and engaging.
The game itself is a cool concept. Its not perfect but I have no complaints.

One thing the game could benefit from would be an auto run option. Not for every level but certain levels like the Soma Reactor for the rail running. ( which is easily the best level/part of the game imo)

I also HIGHly recommend playing this game while under the influence of Marijuana Cigarettes

We rate this a solid 6/7 turkey clubs

This game is like mediocre sex ... If you get it you're still glad you had it but it could've been so much more.

On a more serious note, I love the direction they took with the mechanics although many feel underused and the game left me with a feeling of ... something missing. If they do decide to follow up I hope they take some notes.
Overall I enjoyed my short playthrough ... that's what she said.

this game was a surprisingly fun experience.having the ability to give or take life from a being is something i had never experienced in a game before.
the story is pretty good and engaging and the environments you play in are gorgeous.
some parkour mechanics were clunky and needed some polishing.
it had a few audio bugs and sometimes unresponsive controls but it was nothing game breaking.
you will enjoy this game if you like jumping stupidly far distances and somehow survive the fall.

Gotta go fast!

This game was a fun short experience.

The gameplay is mostly navigating the environment with some easy shooting elements. The simple joy of fast running and super jumping through a beautiful valley does not get old in the short four hours it took me to beat the game. However, I can see the game being an hour or two if someone wanted to speed run this which also sounds enjoyable to me.

I definitely recommend it. Beautiful game, fairly good story, very fun gameplay. Just be aware of the length.

Side note: Something was wrong with the music at the very beginning when you leave a cave. It made a terrible noise every 20 seconds, literally hurt my ears. Luckily it was a short bit that only lasted a minute. The rest of the game's music was excellent and set the mood nicely.

I bought this game recently, but I have had it on my wishlist for ages! At first I was very unsure of what this game is actually about and if it was going to be worth the money or a disappointment. So I got it on a special discount the other day. And I thought let me just give it a go. And now I have to say I would have paid 10 times the price now had I known what I do know. F*&(Cking hats of and respect to these developers. I have enjoyed this sOOOOO much! It's something different, a new perspective! But a true brilliance of what can be done when working as a team. Thank you! Your work is excellent. And I literally have one little thing to point out that is indeed a minor problem that I noticed - and literally one problem. That is when running on water and sometimes at the high speeds when hitting land again or slowing down - it's like the players height doesn't raise back to the original height. Other than that - FUCKING WELL DONE! I PLAYED NON-STOP TO THE FINISH. STORY=10/10, CONTROLS=10/10, EVERYTHING ELSE 10/10!

After beating this game in a single setting, I must say I really liked it. Doesn't mean it's perfect though.

The start of the game is absolutely beautiful. Genuinely they've done the best with what they had and it shows. Beautiful color palette, artstyle and level design. It definitely has the vibe of a high-effort Skyrim mod. I know it sounds like a negative, but it really has the effort in it. In the second half of the game, the visuals are still alright, but perhaps not as beautiful as the outdoor areas.

The level design also demands an applause. There was only a single time that I had to slow down for more than a moment to figure out where to go and sadly it's also just a really bad area. The game has a habit of making areas bigger than they perhaps need to be. Large empty spaces are frequent. It's normally not a big bother, but in one area it got literally so bad that I had to glitch my way to the right path since I couldn't find any place to go to after a solid 10 minutes of searching. Other than that, really well done.

The gameplay is great. It emphasizes the strengths and avoided the potential frustration from the shortfalls. The precision platforming would have been genuinely an awful floaty experience. However, there's no need for that. You're given enough room to account for the floatiness.

The game has two resources to collect through various gameplay elements. Acorns through reviving trees, medallions through finding chests. Both are used to open various optional rooms and areas, which always are well rewarded.

The story has two sides. Environment vs. Industry to put it very generally. The game starts with confusing environment lore which just wasn't compelling at all. Once you get to the industry part and both sides start melding together, then the story also peaks. It's no Mass Effect or The Witcher, but it's very solid regardless.

One thing that I understand is there for a reason that I'd like to remove is the fact that you can properly accelerate to real speeds only through downward slopes. The feeling of speed is so good that it's a shame you can't feel it even more often.

3 hours and 2 minutes later I finished the game. It wasn't too long, it wasn't too short. A great time overall. Play it. It's cheap and totally worth the sale price at the very least.

I was getting bored until I played the train rails part, that was like a simple running, but effects and that speed you feel.. it was better than the whole game itself. This game somehow makes you feel fast in a good way, it has decent gameplay, graphics are a little better but If you love first person parkour and a bit story, then you should absolutely give it a try, 10/10 recommend.

Valley is a first-person adventure platformer game set in a remote region of the Rocky Mountains. Your character set out in search of a mythical Life Seed and stumbles on a secret greater than he ever imagined. You explore the remains of a Top Secret research site that was researching alternative weapons at the same time as the Manhattan Project was ongoing. The setting is stunningly beautiful, the music epic, the lore very well developed, and the gear you use to explore really fun to use.

You find the basic model of a L.E.A.F Suit shortly after the game begins. The suit gives you the ability to run faster and jump farther than you could without it. You'll get the chance build up exhilarating momentum while you sprint and leap through forests, fields, and abandoned buildings. The suit is also tied into the life and energy of the Valley, allowing you to take or give life as you see fit. Dying while wearing the suit results in a Quantum Death. Your life is restored but life in the Valley is taken to recover you. If the Valley ever dies completely, you will be unable to respawn, making it imperative that you restore life whenever possible.

Restoring life to the trees has a chance to drop acorns, which you can use to open up doors to optional areas of the world. These areas generally contain upgrades that provide your suit more energy or will contain optional collectibles that cab be used to access a later section of the game. As you explore the Valley you'll also find utility upgrades for the L.E.A.F. Suit, granting you the ability to double jump, grapple on preset hooks, run on train rails, magnetize boots to the sides of buildings, and walk on water. The upgrades are well spread throughout the game to give you a constant feeling of additional freedom without the game ever feeling like it's dragging on.

I really enjoyed playing Valley. It's not a long game, but it offers the perfect amount of content to keep you excited as you explore the secret history of the abandoned research site. The game gives you a plethora of beautiful settings to explore, and the game constantly rewards you for taking the time to actually explore each of the many areas. The production is all-around high quality! If you're so inclined, you can even continue to explore the Valley after beating the game to find additional secrets that you couldn't access when you first visited various areas.

Valley could nearly be called a Walking Simulator. The game focuses heavily on ambiance, soundtrack, exploration, backstory, and mystery to keep you interested and invested throughout the game, but it mixes in ample opportunity for platforming too. The inclusion of platforming elements and a minor amount of trivial combat elevate Valley slightly outside the realm of the Walking Simulator genre tag, but if it were a Walking Simulator, Valley would be the perfect example of what every Walking Simulator should aim to be.

The only negative I can say about the game is that it lacks the ability to perform manual saves and the checkpoint system will restart you to the start of a level if you need to quit and come back later. You'll retain your progress from finding secrets and unlocking areas, but you'll need to traverse on foot back to where you left off.

Valley is a momentum based runner with a side of exploration. The game does a great job of making you feel fast; music, mechanics and visual combine to give you that experience of pure speed. The game is easy, but fortunately ramps up the challenge later in -- and the variety. I could get more specific, but muh spoilers.

There are a lot of collectibles to collect, but fortunately hardly any are required to progress. In fact, when faced with a door that requires collectibles to advance the campaign, you can find more than you need within the direct vicinity. To put this into perspective, an optional door may require 26, 30, 40, etc. collectibles to access, but a required door may only need 3 or 8, and the game kinda hands you those collectibles right before the door, too. This is good to point out because going over each level with a fine toothed comb really kills what speed you build up; on other side, some of these collectibles are very hidden and you can feel proud for having found what you did.

The game's difficult is akin to a Zelda: things might seem tight early on, but you'll soon find a glut of heart containers, red potions, fairies and grandma's soup, making it rather difficult to actually be at risk of dying. Valley is much the same way with its own mechanics. There is still challenge to be had, just not much punishment.

To anyone who likes going fast and/or exploring thoroughly, I recommend Valley to you. Is gud gam.

This game is my personal favourite, a diamond in the rough. For a new indie studio, the game they made is superb, and definitely informed by their flagship title, Slender: the Arrival. I'll explain my honest thoughts on these points:
1. The Visuals
2. The Music/Audio
3. The Gameplay
4. The Story
5. The Influences of Slender
6. The Overall Player Experience

1. The Visuals
This game is beautiful. The presentation of locations, combined with the picturesque sandboxes, really add to the world of the Valley. Whether it be the dilapidated military bases, or the ancient Sussurian ruins, each location is rich and interesting to be in. You will not be bored when moving around, as it will encourage you to explore.

2.a. The Music
I recommend the soundtrack wholeheartedly. Each song is unique to their area, and easily recognizable. My favourite song is Thundering Charge. It captures the speed and mechanics of the LEAF suit perfectly as you race along my favourite area in the game (no spoilers from me).

However, there are a few areas where the music can bug out, and it just becomes silent. I think it's something due to the player timing in an area with the music.

2.b. The Audio
In tandem with the music, the audio design is more subtle to accommodate the music. The steps of the LEAF suit, the crackling of electricity when you land on a power rail... it's great.

3. The Gameplay
The LEAF suit, or Leap Effortlessly through the Air Functionality suit, is really fun to use. You gain momentum really quickly going down inclines, allowing you to leap massive distances, and you get more and interesting upgrades as you go on. A grapple hook, water skimmers, and double jump, just to name a few. The use of these (without the temple upgrades) costs 1 energy, but you can get it back really easily. This whole game is rather easy compared to its predecessor. There is a Valley health system, which ties into the energy system. When you die, the Valley starts to die off, as life must be traded for life, however, it is really easy to recover the Valley. I think that if it was harder to recover the Valley, the game would be at just the right difficulty.

There are a few sections that are a ton of fun to play through, and gives the most of what the LEAF suit can do. I find it dissapointing that the best experiance, imo, is directly in the middle of the game.

One thing I will mention is the collectables. There are a ton, from energy upgrades to medallions, and many of them are very well hidden, away from the main story areas on each location. Thankfully there are guides out there, and you don't need all of them to get every achievement. You only need 70 medallions to get into the temple, and all of the power upgrades. You will need to go back to certain areas to collect them all, as some locations have areas otherwise inaccessible to new game players. Wendigo Lake has the most hidden away, if you care to look.

4. The Story
The story is rather simple. Don't mess with nature too much. I don't want to spoil it. Audio logs and Written Notes often give key insights into what exactly happened within the Valley.
Besides the main story, which is rather basic, the side stories range from serious horror to comedy gold. I won't spoil any of them, but looking around and finding them will give you more than just pointless collectables, just because of the antics of the other pathfinders.

5. The Influences of Slender
You, the reader may find it weird that I mention a horror icon such as Slender in this review, a game that is most definitely not a horror game. However, this is the one made directly after the Arrival. Many of the criticisms, the glitchy nature of AI, the random difficulty spike on certain maps, and many other issues were directly taken care of in Valley. However, there are other influences within the game, such as the introduction of a certain type of enemy, that definitely take influence from their previous entry into the horror genre. It's cool to see those influences here, especially a hidden easter egg I wish was properly expanded upon.

6. The Overall player experience.
This game is rather easy to play for those used to first person games. The collectable grind is long, and the main story is nothing really special, compared to many other games. However, it is how the world is fleshed out, the experience of running in the LEAF suit through the Valley's different locales that really cements this rather short experience.

My Final Thoughts:
I would recommend a playthrough of this game. I think it's worth it, but it is up to you whether you think the same. I would recommend a listen to the soundtrack at least, since it is a great collection of music.

Flawed mechanics. When you fall and you hit a part of the previous game and die, you have to start back at the beginning. Also, I went up an elevator and fell down the shaft, and there was no way for me to get back to the elevator without starting that whole level over again. Needs more savegames as it made this game infuriating to play. It's too bad, because I was really enjoying the graphics, story, and play for over two hours on this one. Just too annoying to keep going.

Very fun little game about running through big open landscapes, solving light puzzles, and learning the history of the ruins around you.

It's not a very involved experience mostly just running and jumping, but I found the sense of momentum in the movement very satisfying, and the story to be fulfilling.

If you're looking for a cozy kinda game to experience for a few hours definitely recommend

This is a beautiful game. I found the game play relaxing for the most part although there were places where the play became rather intense. It had some interesting puzzles as far as choosing a pathway, the premise for the game is intriguing and it keeps your interest all the way through. I never got bored and was sorry to see it end. That being said, I have only replayed it a couple of times for some reason. Perhaps because the map was relatively straightforward for the most part and I remembered it. Once enough time has passed though, this is one I will definitely be playing again.

I would say Valley is an excellent starter game for anyone who likes good story but doesn't want to be overwhelmed by heavier duty games that might have too many choices. Doesn't appear to be much replayability, but it's definitely got some good mechanics that are pretty unique, and it's well crafted for what it is.

I highly recommend.I am not giving it a higher score because I feel like the medallion hunting is a little too scarce for the lack of replayability.

Valley is a very palatable game. If I was going to show my mother (50) an open world RPG, I would show her Valley for her first one. It's super easy, fun, and the story is tense but not too mature.
-- PC Requirements --
The game requires like a 660, which these days is some pretty old tech in many departments. You should be able to run this (in some way shape or form) on any library computer built within the last 5 years.

☼ Graphics ☼
The graphics are ~alright~. I personally really like it, because the textures feel nostalgic. The tree branches are pretty munch one single shape per branch, and the waving grass texture is all one wave, so I wouldn't say the game is uber-realistic. Like you're not gonna get ray tracing out of this thing natively. But it's still a beautiful game. The artwork in the game is some top notch stuff for what the developers were capable of technically speaking. There's lots of well done bioluminescense (my favorite effect in a game). And while the graphics feel like those of an age past, I still find them very pleasing to the eye and quite beautiful at moments.

♬ Music ♬
I think the soundtrack in this game is well done. I would not say it's very unique in any way. Like this game, it's not something I would download the OST for. It's not like CP2077 or Doom Eternal like that. The sounds are quite limited actually. They are used very sparingly, but the WAY they are used is what makes all the difference. Like playing Doom Eternal, you've just got a cacophony of noise that is ongoing and high octane. In Valley, you get this unique loneliness that comes with the silence of exploring an abandoned location. Only when the player is supposed to feel creeped out, or scared, are they hearing any music. Usually the music is just one string too. Like that piano note that's drawn out and lowers by one letter. It's a little hard to explain, but where the game lacks in effort in the soundtrack, it truly makes up for in placement. Less is more in this case.

☠ Difficulty ☠
This game is one of the easiest games I have ever played that comes in an FPS-like playstyle. There's not even any guns. You short orbs of light to appease enemies, and use the orbs of light to both give live, and take it away. Literally. Like, you can rip the soul out of deer and then pump it into a tree. Or kill it and then put life back into it. It's a pretty cool effect, and definitely a unique concept of gameplay if you ask me.
Most of the game is actually you listening to old recordings of the people who were in the place before you. The story is very passive, is perfectly linear and it is more of following the path of a mystery than making any decisions. Kinda like HellBlade Senua's Sacrifice. It's a set path you follow from the creators' mind(s).

§ Bugs §
I did not encounter any real bugs in the game. Not even movement glitches.

☯ Story ☯
The story in this is surprisingly well done. Like, linear stories can be hard because most people like to have consequences to their decisions (weird, right?). Like I think that is part of what makes games like Dragon Age and CP2077 so popular; however, this one is straightforward, but still keeps you on the edge of your seat.
I haven't seen a story like this one before, and I actually got this game from a coupon from leveling up. I was expecting a pretty basic indie game that was mediocre, but I instead received a solid (albeit kinda barebones) game that was very pleasing, and I would absolutely recommend. It's simple enough that anyone can follow it in my opinion if they are willing to play through it.

⚔ Gameplay ⚔
I love that there is no stamina bar for your sprints, your double jump, or even when you are reaching terminal velocity for long jumps. The game really does capture the essence of real life physics and finds a way to incorporate them into this fantasy world. It's got really well done mechanics. Super clean, very fun and balanced with just a smidgen of what feels OP.
There are two things that you manage in this game. Your energy charge, and the valley's life balance. This means that you get to spend most of your focus on the story itself, and the well designed landscape you're exploring.
One of the more unique mechanics in my opinion is the Quantum Death mechanic. This is basic in game stuff you learn during the intro, so it's not really spoilers. Essentially what happens is the suit you're wearing pulls life from the surrounding animals and trees when you die in order to res you. This affects the valley's life overall. If the valley dies, I think the game ends. Not completely sure, as I beat the game without the valley dying. But to heal the valley you have to shoot the orbs of light into the dead animals and trees to bring them back to life. This means you will manually have to balance your ability to come back from the dead. It's a clever way to bring two mechanics together.
This becomes interesting because your energy is everything. You collect orbs of light and each orb is one energy charge. You use energy charges for the following things:
- Double Jump costs 1 Energy
- Shoot 1 Energy ball to attack enemies. Most enemies take 1-3 bullets, but bullet tracking is real in this game, so you have to be kinda good at planning your shots. They don't auto hit.
- Swinging from hanging points (like a vine) costs 1 energy until you get an upgrade later in the game

This is pretty much it, and you have a LOT of energy in end game (like 40), so it's not hard to manage, but just something to be conscious of. I believe if you run out of energy, you die.
There's a few other platformer aspects that are pretty cool, but they're not mechanics you haven't seen before (walking on walls, swinging from things, double jumps to platforms, etc).

۞ Game time / Length ۞
Main story is pretty short. I beat it in 4.8 hours. There's side stuff that I haven't fully figured out yet (don't know what the pyramids do). I unlocked most of the ancient walls because acorns are abundant when you heal every tree you see. However, medallions are a little harder to find, and definitely cost most to open a door. I only opened one pyramid door and that didn't even give me enemies or stories, so I feel like it's gotta be an upgrade or real reward going on there.

$ Price / Quality $
After playing the game, I would say that full price is worth it. At the time I am writing this, it's $14.99 USD before tax, and the Winter Sale has it at $2.99. Honestly, can't beat that. That's prime cost right there. $3 is a steal for this.

Short and interesting first-person adventure game. You get into a mech suit and do a lot of running, jumping and exploring. The soundtrack is great. There are a limited number of enemies so it's not very action-packed. It's a nice casual adventure experience where you take in the sights and uncover the story which is told through the environment, notes and audio logs kind of like in Bioshock.

It reminds of Lifeless Planet, which I also liked way more than I thought I would.

Last just a little bit light shooting energy at different types of flying monster that can eventually kill you if u dick around. It's pretty easy to find ur way and the story is very interesting end of the world fair. If u are looking for simple fun, this the game.

Before you decide whether this game is for you or not, I think it is very important to mention that it involves encounters with various enemies in some places (not everywhere), even
a boss at some point
. So this is not a peaceful walking simulator, although the mechanics make it rather easy to fight them.

Valley is an amazing adventure game with very interesting story, both told by it's characters and found in many notes scattered around. All of this is surrounded by a beautiful scenery. The story is quite short (few hours) but you can continue exploring after you finish it.

What I love about this game is the freedom in movement and this satisfying feeling while running and jumping around.
Another thing I absolutely adore is the music, it's so fitting in many places, it just makes you feel good.
Also there are collectibles that let you enter places with useful rewards.

I recommend giving this game a try, especially when it's on sale.

Good story. Very good emotional music. Good playability, speed and physics which is the base of the game.
That makes me like it a lot. Lots of secrets which you need to spend time to look for.

Not much of interaction. Only 2 kind of boxes for items. Not actually boxes made for the spesific surroundings, area or situations. Like standard in lots of games. Lack of logic for what to open some doors with. Acorns?? lol.
I miss the varity of the way story is being told.

But anyway overall good emotional environments and music. Lots of adrealine running, jumping and falling. I really recommend this game. Absolutely worth the money if you'll like to spend some time alone with an interactive story and adrealine rush from physics.

Valley is a game with great movement, the rest of it falls short of greatness... by a long shot.
Sadly this movement is constantly interrupted, you stop running every few seconds to grab collectibles. Maybe you'll even be able to enter a pyramid if you care enough to get the collectibles required.

The music, story and voice acting aren't remarkable. Despite others being voice acted and picking a male/female voice, character dialogue is displayed on screen but not voiced.

Play it if you want a first person platformer that's kind of okay, as even that seems to be a rarity.

While it feels like it has the legs to go bigger (pun intended I guess,) Valley offered some pretty thrilling gameplay. The movement is the real star — fast running and big jumps make for some really exciting platforming.

I will say that I did find the challenge to be a little underwhelming. Enemies are no real threat, the platforming is low stakes, and while the final 15 minutes or so felt challenging I managed not to lose a step. Not a huge complaint because I still had fun. The story is decent. Most the context you’ll pick up through reading documents but having to stop and read so much really derailed the “first person sonic the hedgehog” gameplay you’ve undoubtedly read about. I found myself saying screw it at a point and just literally racing to the end of this game.

I thoroughly enjoyed Valley’s gameplay and what I gleaned from the story. At full price its a strong recommend and its a legit steal on sale.

I usually don't bother to write reviews for games but after finishing this game, I feel I really have to! Wow, what an adventure. I like exploring magical lands and this game provided just that - lots of beautifully rendered landscapes and buildings to explore. This game just had me going on a roller coaster ride from the start. It's a mix of storytelling and mystery. There's a little bit of everything in this game, ranging from parkour to shooting magic at enemies to finding hidden items to open secret areas. The pacing is up to you. You can take a peaceful stroll along a beautiful lake or an exhilarating ride down a tunnel or a long jump that makes you fly across the sky. And the plot boils down to one thing: can you save the Valley?

A beautiful and enchanting exploration/platform game with a very detailed story and great game mechanics. I enjoyed using all of my LEAF suit abilities and upgrades and exploring all the areas. It is nice that you can go back after you finish the main game and redo chapters to get all the collectibles and other achievements. It is not that hard in the platforming area, with the exception of one or two spots that you can get help with from a good guide. The story was rich and the atmosphere exactly right to invoke that eerie feeling, yet you were surrounded by beauty. I highly recommend this one!

I keep coming back to this game, even years later. If you're on the fence about playing it, wait until it's on sale at least, but know that it's worth the money for this totally unique experience. This is not a finely-tuned AAA title, but it DOES make me want to see more of what Blue Isle can do.

This game is for: People who want to explore. People who like walking sims, light puzzle elements, and maybe a bit of vertigo. People who enjoy story and immersive worlds.
This game is NOT for: People who prefer hard game failure conditions. People who want complex combat systems. People who are looking for very typical action/adventure gameplay.

Cons:
- The downfall of so many beloved indie titles: It's short. I would have loved to see more.
- You might run into map glitches then and again.
- Getting acorns is a bit too easy.
- The little guys will throw you off at first and make the game feel a bit unpolished. You'll have to just accept their tiny, animation-less charm for what it is.
- I can't dump this game from my memory to re-discover it all over again and honestly that's the most disappointing thing about it.

Pros:
- This game just FEELS good to play. The movement system is so smooth and satisfying.
- It's gorgeous. This is one of those games where exploring the map pays off.
- The story is memorable. I find myself wishing there was more to find and learn about the world of Valley.
- The soundtrack is excellent and sets the pace of the game so well. The music totally engages you with gameplay as it's happening.

What I'd love to see:
- More ways to interact with the world via the LEAF suit's life-taking/giving properties. More animals, more plants, etc.
- More story! More to explore and learn about the ancient civilization, the Pathfinders, and other technologies that might have been developed on the base, which would lead to...
- More maps to embrace the LEAF suit and the full capacity of the movement system. More places to explore and enjoy the satisfaction that comes with that effortless running and leaping.

Good take on exploration game without getting boring, not much combat if you do prefer exploring, puzzles are a bit easy, but nice scenery and LEAF system is fun with upgrades and to feel like a comic book character. Even a tad dated the scenery can be amazing, def check out if it's on sale!

This is a great little game to spend one of your Saturdays playing. The controls are simple and the story is interesting enough to finish the game in one session. My only complaint for the game was that after you completed the last story mission, you don't get to experience the aftermath of the Valley. Not even a cut-scene! All the work you put into helping it and you don't even get to see what it looks like.

Every once in a while, I play a game that I fall in love with. Valley did not look like my kind of game because I generally suck at running, jumping, and surviving. But, I kept hearing great things about it so I took the plunge. I have played for almost 40 hours and I just keep coming back to it.

The Pros:
1. 1st person, 3D world that is amazing to explore. Mountains, valleys, abandoned factories, secret facilities... it's all there. This is not a game to rush... take your time and make some scenic detours along the way.
2. Intriguing story that you put together through notes and minimal narrative.
3. Incredible sound track. The music is inspiring and changes to set the mood of the game. The environmental effects are well done and, with headphones, you can totally believe you are there. In the final escape, my heart was pounding as if I were really in fear.
4. Game is forgiving and even a novice like me can run, jump, defeat enemies, and use grappling hooks. My learning curve was not too steep and I did not mind replaying sections over and over until I made the jump or figured out the timing. Death is not permanent so I never got discouraged.
5. You build strength and capabilities, over time, and these are retained even if you die. Towards the end, when you are really a force to be reckoned with, it is fun to just go soar through the landscapes, traverse the lakes, and see where you end up.
6. Can be played with either a keyboard/mouse or controller. Your success does not depend on manipulating a joy stick if the WASD keys are more your style!

The Only Con: I would have liked to see a Save point midway through the longer chapters. If you exit in the middle of a chapter, you will retain everything you have acquired in that session but will be returned to the physical starting point of the chapter. I found myself playing longer than planned because I did not want to have to restart a path that was very challenging and had taken me a long time to accomplish.

Overall, I cannot say enough good things about Valley. To sum it up, my time spent in the Valley was one of the best adventures I've had in a long time. No dialog, no puzzles, just pure exhilaration and discovery. I am so glad I stepped out of my comfort zone and gave it a try.

Pretty satisfying first person platforming with an okay narrative and some extremely shallow combat. If there was more of an expansion on any sort of challenge and content it'd be a pretty fantastic game but as is it's kinda just a shallow but fun time waster.

Great atmosphere and visually stunning.
The story was Ok and suitable.
The soundtracks were amazing, they made the whole running episodes beautiful.
The only downside is that the game is short so i would recommend buying it on sale.
If you like The story about my uncle type of games, you will definitely enjoy this one as well.
Thanks to the developers for creating this memorable experience, we need more games like this.

I cannot recommend this game enough, even if you aren't into exploration and adventure games.
It does what it needs flawlessly and the world build is 10/10.
I am trying to think about downsides but i really can't, the world exploration freedom is unbelievable , if you're crafty enough you can even go outside the map, or in high enough places from where you can see the whole map.
The story is amazing with quality plot twists, the characters have awesome backstories and even the ending credits boast some amazing concept art and sketches for models and NPC ideas during productions, i gotta tip my hat to the artists, it actually kept me trough the credits to the end.
I only found out about it because it went on sale, but goddamn this is a hidden jewel.
Pick it up, regardless the price, i guarantee you won't regret it!

One of the most enjoyable games I've ever played.

The whole experience is very, very enjoyable (albeit quite short, ~4 hours while being quite thorough) and for the most part entertaining as well. The first run sequence really got me, as it was just so exhilarating and fun to do. The soundtrack (and all the other ones during run sequences) was nothing short of breathtaking; the tracks that play while just exploring are also very, very good.
Graphics are nothing too fancy, but still beautiful. Looking at the landscapes is just a joy.
The story is also very engaging and makes you want to find out as much as you possibly can. It's good, though not without some holes and it does get a bit weaker towards the end.
Was that really the best way to solve that problem? Both in the present and in the past.
Your character also has these thoughts for you to read on screen and sometimes they'll just repeat what you might've read in a note already, if you've been thorough. Could've been nice to incorporate reading the notes better.
The voice acting is also spot on, though on several occasions the end of a sentence sounds a bit sped up/skewed.

Short game, but worth it if you find it on sale. I didn't feel as if it was too short nor did it wear out its welcome so I think it was just about right. For those who do want more and enjoy the mechanics, the game opens up again after beating it and can go back and find all collectibles if that is your sort of thing. I would probably compare it to Portal; it's a platformer (and not really and puzzle other than figuring out how to traverse to the next goal) with the story told through a mix of its environment and voice messages throughout the game. The gameplay of using momentum to propel yourself around through the map is definitely the highlight of the game.

Beautiful game with some breathtaking areas and I was pretty fond of the music too. It's not perfect though. Some of the platforming sections were frustrating with requiring tons of momentum and precise timing of letting go of the rope for swinging sections. But nothing impossible and will eventually get it. The life/death system was okay. I enjoyed restoring life to trees but barely saw any animals. The death system was odd, never found a use to kill anything. Combat in the game felt unnecessary. I'd have preferred the game to focus purely on its story, environment and the amazing movement mechanics. Honestly, the enemies just served to annoy and distract me and at some point I ignored them and just ran past them when they got too numerous.

I'd say its worth closer to 10 dollars than 15, but it's a great find if you see it on sale. Especially if you are a sucker for green environments and going fast.

In the Valley, there is life and death, prosperity and growth, hardship and diminishment and it is up to you to either by the tool to harvest life or the hand that gives it.

In the never-ending human's search for power and control, some intelligent minds or... fools perhaps, stumble upon the Valley and discover what's hidden within it; the power of light, the life Seed.

now you can imagine yourself to be either the tool that harvests life for power, greed, hunger, and selfishness of the purely material scientistic point of view, that the tool which you are, you can fully imagine yourself to be that in front of a timeless source of power, a power that is unimaginable and we have never seen anything like it before, but at what cost can we get this power? and does anything else matter in the process of acquiring it?

Or in the never never-ending human's search for power and control, you can imagine yourself to be the hand that gives life, the passionate and merciful, the hand that sees things for what they are truly are and what their actions can create of side effects, collateral damage or backlash perhaps from nature, the Valley in this case or us, our own selves.

Whatever things that we try to achieve, it was and will always be on the cost of other, most of the times, more valuable things and here perhaps living things and we never seem to be able to learn from the past or our mistakes and that is what the Valley is trying to tell us, to teach a something possibly and what could happen when power and greed blind the eyes and the hearts of human beings.

while short but nice experience, the Valley, takes huge inspirations from games like Bioshock and Fallout4 in terms of presentation and setting up the atmosphere, the movements system is very fun and gets better the more you progress in this game, short but nice experience.

Very atmospheric and visually pleasing parkour-platformer. I did especially like the fast paced parts of the playthrough. The game is fairly short, but could be played longer if you want to explore every secret around the vast levels which are also vertically traversable.I also liked the setting a lot, but will not talk about it much since I found it enjoable to discover towards the later stages of the game.

Quite enjoyable, but very short for the price.

The game is absolutely packed with atmosphere. The visuals and music are amazing most of the time.
I found some of the indoor areas fairly dark, drab and boring though. It doesn't help that the indoor areas tend to lack music. Sound design also suffers slightly from the fact that your audio logs are triggered by entering certain locations, and the music can end up drowning them out, but this is a minor issue at best.
I also noticed a bit of audio skipping during particularly busy sections of the game.

My playtime listed here was all it took to play through Valley blind from start to finish. While I did not 100% the game, I can't imagine doing so would add more than an hour or two at most.

The mechanics of the game are all fairly well implemented and I didn't end up encountering any bugs or glitches in my playthrough, but your mileage may vary. Overall the leaf suit works fine and is quite fun to use in most places, especially during one high speed tunnel running section. The game sadly hits its high point about halfway through, and never quite manages to one-up itself after that.
I would have loved to see more of the high speed rail gameplay, but there's sadly very little of it.
Still, the game hits a euphoric point during the moments of high speed movement it does allow, and the music compliments those sections perfectly. By far the most enjoyable portions of the game in my experience. In contrast, the grappling hook sections are very strange, and grappling in general doesn't really feel like real physics are going on. Ever used a ninja rope in Worms? I found grappling in Valley to be a similar feeling. Many of the grappling points aren't even necessary to progress, which can leave the level design feeling a bit haphazard.

Overall, it's a quick and enjoyable evening-sized journey. I imagine speedrunners would have a lot of fun routing an optimal path through this game. I'd say it's definitely worth grabbing on sale if you see an opportunity, but quite short for the default asking price.

Purchased without too much idea what it would ultimately be about and was pleasantly surprised. Interesting story, not overly long to complete nor too involving to find all the secrets, some unique gameplay, basic difficulty level to allow a more casual experience... just what I needed for this particular weekend.

The movement mechanics work very well, which is always a concern with this sort of 1st person platformer. There were a few challenging moments trying to complete all secrets, but nothing that required banging away senselessly for overlong. The combat is simplistic but ultimately isn't really the point, so that's fine. The visuals ranged from more than adequate to beautifully inspired.

Overall, if you're looking for a bit of 1st person platforming & exploration with a few interesting twists, but doesn't drag out for too long and can give you a nice feeling of pleasant satisfaction at the end of a weekend (or long day for that matter), Valley might just hit the spot.

Valley ALMOST lost me in the first ten minutes of wandering around with no particular apparent reason, nothing happening, and lots of pretty scenery that I couldn't interact with in any way and couldn't even jump or climb over a boulder that I could have hurdled at a run myself.

That slow start ended when I found the Extremely Strained Acronym Suit. ...Er, excuse me, I mean the LEAF suit. Which is really an exoskeleton, not a suit. Suddenly the game became immersive and involving, and never looked back.

Valley has a fairly simple story, but it's told in a way that draws you in. Virginia, the anthropologist, is - OK, WAS, in the 1940s - humanly concerned and ethical. It's not much of a spoiler to say that you'll fairly soon find out that the project leader, Andrew Fisher, was a raving megalomaniac. The LEAF exoskeleton gives you the power to give and take life from the valley - but if you play the game anything like I did, you'll find yourself striving to heal and give life wherever you can. (This makes one of the late-game revelations a bit of a gut punch - but spoilers, sweetie.)

What little you can see of yourself is a little rough. But the rest of the game is gorgeous, peaceful, unusual, and interesting, despite its few and simple mechanics, and does not depend on hordes of monsters or, god help us, zombies. THERE ARE NO ZOMBIES IN THIS GAME, thank whatever gods there may be. (Yeah, I am SO FREAKING SICK of zombie games. The zombie apocalypse has, fittingly, been done to death and beyond.) A couple of the Pathfinder Training Areas are a bit platformy, which may be frustrating if you don't like platformers, but there's not much of any of them and you'll get through them quickly.

Get Valley. Play it. You'll be glad you did.

Interesting mix of walking-simulator, parkour and adventure game. Is fun (but simple), the story is interesting (but not very original) and has good graphics and sounds. On the other hand, it is too lineal and the combat is pretty ordinary.

I recommend to buy it on sales, it is too short (only about 3-4 hours long).

Valley holds a special place for me as it’s one of the few platformers that tells a great story. Many platformers that try to include a story usually have a poor one to the point it may have been better to not have one. I would go as far as saying that Valley has possibly the best one I have seen. Luckily the gameplay is fun to go through as well and, save for a few issues I had, was very enjoyable.

You begin the game as an archaeologist that is trying to find something called the “Lifeseed”. You go exploring the Canadian Rockies for it via canoe but end up with the canoe destroyed and stranded in a valley where you find a special suit that was developed in World War II that gives the user the ability to run very fast; jump long distances; and great heights. You also discover that with the suit you can take life away from things such as trees and animals or give it back. This can have an effect as any time you die you take life away from the valley and have to give some back to keep a balance. You can only do this by constantly collecting more energy. You play the rest of the game trying to figure out what went on at this base all those years ago and why nobody is there now. In order to explore the base you must use the suit to solve platforming issues and various puzzles. You pick up various audio logs and notes that piece together the backstory. It made me think of Bioshock a bit with the audio logs.

I enjoyed the platforming in the game as unlike some others it feels a little more natural with the keyboard and mouse. That being said a gamepad would still be easier for the platforming but there are parts of the game that are very much a first person shooter where you have to battle enemies made of energy that I would despise doing with a gamepad. The puzzles were for the most part logical and didn’t feel like they tried to force you into a solution that was pulled out of thin air and didn’t use reason. That being said I did have a few issues. You die if you get submerged in water. The reason given is the weight of the suit drags you down to the bottom to drown. I’ll give the developers credit on coming up with a reasonable explanation as to why water is an instant death. I will say though that it has some real short sighted problems because you die even if you’re only ankle deep in water. That makes no sense. It also made me angry when later in the game in a cutscene you land in water and are somehow able to swim to the top and survive where all game I had been punished if so much as a foot entered the water. Also at certain points I can walk through a waterfall and survive. Basically the rules about when water will harm you are all over the place and annoying. This is a small thing though that didn’t stop my overall enjoyment of the game. I noticed that all flags appeared black. I’m not sure if this was a glitch or not. There was also one time I tried to jump on a tree branch but went through it. This only happened the once though.

The graphics of Valley are pretty decent overall. The lighting; water; shadows; and sun rays are all above average. I can’t name anything that stands out as a negative. I also can’t say that anything is the best in gaming even for when the game came out. I would say for the resources of a small studio they did better than most. The soundtrack of Valley was awesome and deserves mention. It had a great blend of fast paced and slow peaceful orchestra type music.

I played Valley on Linux. It had an option for Vsync; six different graphic options; four settings for AA; and an option for AO. There was no option for manual saves as the game relies on checkpoint saves. You can have up to four different save slots though for different playthroughs. You can’t change controls but you only have four buttons to use so it wasn’t a big deal. The game uses the Unity engine. I played the game with everything on highest except AA, AO and motion blur which were all turned off. My resolution was 1080P. The reason I did this was the game would drop from 60 FPS down the the 40’s pretty often. With those options off it only happened once maybe every half hour. Typically it ran at 50-60 FPS. The game used between 12-23% of my CPU; 5-6.6GB of system RAM; 2.6GB of VRAM; and 40-55% of my GPU. Overall it wasn’t the most optimized game I have played but far from the worst. The graphics were great but they didn’t seem like they should drop my frame rate to the 40’s and when it happened was almost random. Alt-Tab didn’t work. One weird issue I encountered was the graphics options wouldn’t always save until later in the game when they would. For most of it I had to set them each time I launched the game. The game used 4.09GB of disk space. The game didn’t crash once on me.

If you enjoy first person platformers such as The Free Ones or A Story About my Uncle you should really give Valley a try. It had great graphics, a great story, good platforming and a great soundtrack. I finished the game in 4 hours 18 minutes. I paid $10.99 CAD and would say it easily worth $20.

My Score: 7/10

My System:
