The game was fun at the beginning, especially the soul system that sweetens your death by making your next warrior better. But here also lies the drawback of the game. Every time you die you need to start from scratch. This gets old very soon. When you reach the second tournament you simply need luck to win the final fight. I tried different combinations of skills and stats but in the end it’s just a question where a random effect occurs. If it doesn’t your death is inevitable and you start…from the beginning and have to go through all the matches you fought before again.

Dynamic combat elements. Purchasable armour and weapons. Gem crafting. Combat dice mini-game. Unlockable modes & content. Permadeath and a glass ceiling structure. Lineage new game rewards. THE GOOD:

+ AMBIENCE & AESTHETICS

THE BAD:

- MOBILE DESIGN
- UNVIABLE BUILDS
- REPETITIVE GAMEPLAY
- MICROTRANSACTIONS
- PERMADEATH

AND THE REST:

* CUSTOMISATION
* INVENTORY
* SUPPORTING FEATURES
* TACTICAL MECHANICS
* ACCESSIBILITY

ANALYSIS:

WRTG proved to be a fun, enjoyable game with a design and game flow, fans of mobile gaming will find all to familiar. One that embraces the need to invest lots of play-time to grind for the currency necessary to keep progressing. At least in terms of both upgrading character development and achieving gameplay. At least in MP. In SP the same design has a framework that forces periodic permadeath contests and an apparent glass ceiling to break with the right type of build.
GAMEPLAY
WRTG very much feels and plays like a mobile port. Despite this core gameplay is fun but formulaic due to the lack of evolution in the tactical options available. A result of skills being only passive in nature. While initially they seem diverse given that some builds are unviable, so too will choosing some of these skills curtail progression.

It also will begin to feel repetitive in SP. Not so much in MP as the extra modes add an unexpected and appealing dynamic with the 2vs2 and free-for-all modes. Modes that will be more of a challenge. Its a pity these could not be experienced in SP.

The supporting features do add a positive framework around combat but in all they mostly act as currency/coin sinks in order to gain additional buffs to whatever aspect of the game is being invested in.
MECHANICS
Character customisation has a large scope in terms of appearance but less in terms of stats. With only three real types of class possible depending on the strength and agility attributes. These can be mixed to numerous possible degrees and while stamina matters a lot less than health, neither of these can really be neglected to much. A lack of gladiator fighting styles was noticeable and more would have been very welcome.

The range of inventory was not as much as should be expected from such a game. There is enough to satisfy the short to middle game but doubtful enough for MP. Which will need copious grind for the top level armour, weapons and gems. Doubtless to say the best item should be equipped in each slot whenever possible. As soon as possible.

Permadeath a seemingly partial option becomes inevitable in both modes. The combat dice mini-game is benign and does not make a big difference in earning money as it can be lost as much as it can be won. Against players willing to buy microtransactions I doubt it will make a difference. Still its better than nothing.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2780052140
DIFFICULTY & COMPLEXITY
With an initial gentle learning curve, WRTG is easy to pick-up and play. Due to the limits in active tactical options there is no real complexity. Difficulty comes from the glass ceiling present in SP when tournaments must be played. For here permadeath adds provides the only true hurdle to progression with no option for bribing victorious opponents. This will spell the end of the current gladiator. The final boss battles in particular in tournaments seem intentionally weighted against the player.
ACCESSIBITLY
It is a simple game that requires minimal explanation. Major features such as modes and activities are introduced one-by-one at a gentle pace. Tool-tips pop-up as and when they are needed to explain things. As anyone would expect from a mobile design the GUI layout helps players register where to go, what to do and when, etc.

AMBIENCE & AESTHETICS
Well-drawn, colourful visuals and supporting audio provide a experience that embraces its gladiatorial theme in a comical way. This is matched by in-combat taunts from combatants and the roar of the crowd when entertained by gladiator actions or the enticement a tactical action. Speech bubbles relaying these light-hearted taunts to the player.

REPLAYABILITY & LONGEVITY
While core gameplay is purposely very brief, the game is built with there are layers upon layers of incentives to keep players invested in the game. The slow grind keeping players, playing beyond what I would consider a reasonable time for a non-free PC game.

QUALITY
WRTG is a well made game. No bugs or stability issues experience. Though seeing as a game such as this would easily offer hundreds of hours of gameplay to committed players, these issues may yet be lurking.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2780064160
ENJOYMENT
WRTG offers three aspects of enjoyment to players. The first is its fast-paced and simple core combat. Even though its tactical elements are limited. In particular the 2vs2 and free-for-all modes of arena combat are its best elements for sure. Challenging in their own right with an extra level of strategy infused in its core combat.

VALUE FOR MONEY

For a mobile port the cost seems unreasonable given the size and scope of the SP campaign. Nor does it seem justifiable for the MP element given that it is likely that some players will invest in microtransactions and leave PC gamers needing to grind and grind, to seek and maintain parity.

VERDICT:

A basic mobile port with a strong gladiatorial ambience and aesthetic and compact tactical combat encounters. It is very grindy, repetitive and embraces permadeath through its lineage feature. Microtransactions are optional but signify a pay-to-win design through MP, at least.

While I enjoyed playing the core game I was less impressed with the mid-to-long game promised grind and experience. So while looking solid, its mobile nature makes this very much a MAYBE purchase and definitely on a good sale.

Multiplayer is a barren wasteland. At least a third of my total playtime was online and I played a grand total of no-one. Not a single other player encountered (I'm in the UK, if that matters). Stuck playing bots which basically goes 3-5 easy victories then 1 impossible opponent multiple levels above you because losing is fun. Apparently. At least that's what the developers of this game seems to think. Don't worry though, despite the game being totally dead online, you can still piss away up to £100 a time on in game currency packs to spend on cosmetic crap.

Single player is shallow garbage. Scaled down version of multiplayer, multiple things missing. On anything other than easy level, SP is impossible to beat because of the ridiculous scaling of the enemies. You'll eventually reach a point where you are waaaaay too underpowered to fight because the game only gives you a certain amount of xp earning matches, before locking them out and forcing you to fight in tournaments with these powerful enemies because derpy, derp, derp, F**KING DERP.

I guess you're suppose to just keep dying over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again until you EVENTUALLY grind enough skill points to have a chance of progressing. Well, 40+ hours on SP and nearwhere near for me and a particular enemy takes soooo long getting back to that the whole SP section just becomes a mind-numbing chore. In any good rogue-lite game, every run will see you progress a little further each time, adding to your overall playthrough. In this game, you constantly hit a wall and die at the same point over and over making next to no progress so each run just feels like a waste of time as nothing, or very little, is gained.

The other thing to play is some dice game that is blatantly stacked in favour of the CPU. 15 games, 1 victory, 2 ties and 12 defeats as the CPU, not once, not twice, not thrice but FOUR F**KING TIMES managed to 'Yahtzee' the 5 dice it need to turn certain defeats into complete and utter bulls**t victories. Shame really because it seems like a decent game if everything was balanced and equal. Sadly this game is a creation of Mr. Shenanigans McGameRiggy so there's no sign of balance whatsoever, just like the single player campaign.

The reason I've clocked so many hours is because I've tried this game with multiple play styles. Melee only build, mainly ranged, strong defensive, strong offensive, focus mainly on the high rated weapons or focusing on high rated armour. It makes ZERO difference. The game plays almost identically and you get beaten a the same point every time regardless of your play style until you've managed to grind enough skill points to proceed.

The 'humour' is very junior school level, seemingly aimed at 12 year olds (grown males wearing pigtails, farting in faces, kicks to the groin, lame battle cries like 'show me da wae bruda', pathetic meme faces for your banner, etc). A slight chuckle now and again when first starting but it all becomes very unfunny very quickly, to the point where you will find yourself constantly smashing the Escape key the instant a battle is over to skip the execution/mercy scenes that just become time consuming and annoying.

I really wanted to like this game and I was sure that, under everything, there was a good game trying to get out. However, I'm now at around 67 hours and still haven't found it. Before purchasing, I read all the negative reviews from a few years but and thought that the developers would have made improvements over that time. Nope. All the negative points people were slamming the game for back then are still here now. In fact, it seems like the exact same game now as it was back them. Maybe if the developers had spent more time focusing on the gameplay instead of the pathetic attempt at memes then the game would have been decent or maybe even good.

Multiplayer is dead, single player is broken, dice game is rigged. £15 is way too much, pay no more than £5 in a sale unless the developers put some effect in to fix and improve the single player campaign. Doubt anything can save the void that is multiplayer so don't buy it for that. No tactics, no skill, just RNG crapness where the random part is very blatantly unrandom during the dice game.

This game has never been very good, but lately it's gotten worse. I've uninstalled. I recommend you avoid this title. It's very simple mechanics and crude humour just aren't worth the price of admission. I got this for under $10 CDN, it's now over $20 and not worth it. I wouldn't even play this if it was a free game.

It is an overall fun game! In the game, you fight enemies and have to progress though. You can also bet on your money, and do much more. I can see a lot of effort was put into the game, and would recommend buying it at the cheapest price, which is available now.

Cannot agree more with Kit's comment.
I too purchased the game a few years ago after seeing YouTube,
After I bought the game, I played the game as expected.
At the end, I got bored and decide to give some time so that the game to mature.

Guess what! A total bogus with game development. I believe I gave reasonably enough time to this game to evolve, but yet am still disappointed with game contents. It is literally same or maybe a page progress, if I describe as reading a book.

Now, I envy Kit for getting refunded. - Because I didn't!
Thanks for unpleasant experience with an early access purchase. :X

Please, go find other games for the buck, you might want spent and invest you time.

Game is still in Early Access

A funny, casual and unique turnbased gladiator game, with permadeath.
All is viewed from a 2D perspective.
You can chose between duel, tournament and survival mode.
Tournament: you have to win it, otherwise it is game over. You here will die if you don't win
Survival: test how long you can survive, the longer you survive the more loot you can get.

You are a gladiator. You start off almost naked, but through fighting your way up, you earn money and experience so that you can buy a full gladiator outfit at the shop.
When you defeat an enemy you can chose between: sparing their miserable life and get some money (and sometimes to humiliate them you fart them in their face:)) or finish them off.
Same choices are there when you lose. Offer your enemy some money and hope that they will let you live anotherday. If you don't let the enemy spare you, your hero dies and you have to start over.

In the battlescene you can chose between a few attacks (later also ranged attacks) The attacks that do more damage also have a lesser chance to succeed. You can also chose not to attack and entertain the audience, the more they are entertained, the more chances there are that they will throw a weapon, potion etc towards you. Be aware of traps on in the arena.
Also you have stamina, every attack uses some stamina, if you dont have enough stamina left, you need to rest.

Some battles are timed, you have to chose fast. I didnt like those.

Besides the battle system you can go to the tavern to play a dice game to earn money (or lose ofc)
There are plenty things you can unlock like weapons, armour, skills etc.

Sometimes between battles there are random events where you have to chose between 2 options, one will be good the other not.
There is a multiplayer option, I didnt try it, because I prefer to play a singleplayer game.

The music and the sound effects are nice and pleasant to listen too. Graphics are good and pretty fun to watch.
Price is decent for this kind of game.
It's a casual game, but it can get a bit repetitive. If you don't mind that it is a fun game to play. A battle is faily short so you can play this one for a few minutes if you do not have enough spare time.

I would give this game a 7.5 out of 10

Been following the development of this game since before Early Access. The game improves dramatically over time and I feel it has great potential.

As for the current version, it's already enjoyable, providing hours of fun. You can try out different builds and tactics trying to raise through the ranks, and a nice roguelike element lets you improve between playthroughs - while still giving you the freedom to change builds every playthrough (you keep skill points, and not the skills themselves).

Recommend it for a fun, light experience even as it is today, and even moreso given its potential.
