Lieber THE NEXT BIG THING zocken, denn viel viel besser

A good (and short -- but that is good!) point-and-click adventure. I enjoyed the fact that it wasn't too hard (I made liberal use of the hotspot locator); graphics are nice (animations a bit stiff, but, hey, this is not an AAA production), and the story had a few memorable surprises... It was my first Pendulo game; no expectations going in, so I was able to enjoy it for what it is -- even if the story turned real dark at times.

Score: 77/100.

The game tries to balance somewhere between a parody and a tragedy with mixed results. The visuals are pretty good, the sound design is average and the puzzles are a-okay. Two buttons help out a lot: to highlight interactable objects and to get a hint. Both save a lot of trouble if you're stuck. The game is relatively short, clocking at ~4.5 hours. Overall score is 6/10, worth getting on sale for a buck or two.

As many others, who do not recommend this game, I also think it was rather short. Thus the game was left a little shallow. Some of the puzzles were actually very nice, since they were realistic and MacGyverish. The whole occult theme could have provided a Dan Brown -level story, as the prologue hinted.

Sadly the game has a lot of issues: the scenes and the characters were cursory, not to mention the bugs with cutscene audio. The game is just not worth the money. It took me 4h to complete the game and I took some time to go to town to buy pizza while the game was running.

I am going to start by saying that while Yesterday is a not a bad point-and-click game, it is just way too short! I recommend you do not buy this game at full price and just wait for the Steam sales.

Due to its shortness, the plot and the way this game progresses is ridiculously fast and feels a bit contrived at times. I literally felt like I missed a part of the game and thus, I was not able to feel an emotional connection to the characters.

However, I found that Yesterday has an attractive styling and that there was some humor in the right places, even it was brief and overshadowed by both the dark story and the over-fast pacing.
I have played previous Pendulo Studios games and generally enjoyed them, but I am not sure what they were going for here…

I spent 3-4 hours on my first play-through, so it's a little short, but that's about the only negative thing I can say about the game. The puzzles are logical, a bit on the easy side, there are no locked hooks or super strange combinations. The story is great, great atmosphere and funny dialogues. I also really liked that there are several endings to explore. It really doesn't matter that the game is 8 years old, it has aged well. So if you want a cool story, with not to difficult puzzles, this would be the game for you. I'm now downloading the next game in the series, I can't wait to play it and hope it's even better than this one.

This game reminds me the most of the Broken Sword style of adventure games. It's very short however, so hard to compare it to them directly. The plot is very intriguing but I would like to see it develop a bit more. I guess there is a prequel (which is a good idea, but I hope there will be a sequel too). The villain is interesting and unusual. Besides the length and simple puzzles, the main weaknesses are the fact that the girl, while having an interesting connection to the main character, is completely useless and adds nothing to the story, and also that the game has kind of a odd sense of humor that is a bit jarring because it's uncomfortable but not really funny. That might in part due to the game being a translation, but characters like the lascivious hotel clerk and the american tourists add little to story and makes me wonder at the wisdom of having them stand out so much. But the game does stand out because of its unusual storytelling methods, and I would try another from the same developers.

Damn yesterday was short

As a fan of point&click adventure games i found out that Pendulo games are kind of hidden gems, although rough around the edges. They have nice stories, characters and graphics to my liking but they usually lack a little in gameplay. Puzzles are way to hard in some of their games or they don't make sense and Yesterday is no exception.

It's a nice traditional point&click game. Like always you talk with people, look for items and look how to use them which helps you solve the puzzles.
Story is pretty dark but nothing disturbing or depressive. I loved the theme, but i think even though it's dark there's always a place form some humor.

I think the main negative point of this game is its length. It's REALLY short. I don't expect point&click games to be 20+ hours, i get bored if these games get so lenghthy, but this one is around 4-5 hours which is too short even for this kind of game. In my opinion games like this should be around 10-15 hours. The reason for this is that when it's so short it ends just when you start feeling connection with characters and start getting involved in the story.

Graphically it's well done. All the areas are nicely drawn and are very enjoyable to explore. Cell shaded characters look pretty good too. Overall the game looks very pleasing to your eye.

Is it worth getting? If you're a fan of the genre i'd say it's must, it's not great, it has its lows and highs, a good game. If you see it on sale just get it.

Pros
  • Interesting story
  • Good variety in environments
  • Graphics are good

Cons
  • Very short
  • While the game is good that's what it is, only good, nothing exceptional about it

Crashed three and a half hours in.

There is either no save system in the game or it wasn't working. I picked a save slot at the beginning but apparently this did nothing. I assumed it was periodically autosaving since I got no information about it and the game has no menu that shows a save option or anything like that.

So, when I came back after the crash, it wanted to start me over at the beginning again.

I'm not interested enough in how it comes out to do that.

An enjoyable, but short, adventure game with some good things going for it, and some others that you'll have to overlook to enjoy it. The story is intriguing with good voice acting but is rather poorly paced and the dialogue often feels very out of place. The artwork is great but some of the animations and character models look quite cheap. If you can overlook those items though, this game is easily worth a few bucks.

Short satanic cult-themed point’n’click, heavily interspersed with cinematic cutscenes. It’s a looker but not without problems.

Like every Pendulo game out there, “Yesteday” hits the spot visually with absolute ease. Colorful yet soft-hued backgrounds will serve as a perfect vehicle for a surprisingly dark, intense story. Progress is built on exhausting dialogue options, examining your surroundings and extensive use of inventory while solving puzzles that are, for the most part, logical but aren’t without “let’s try everything on everything” moments. Despite being very cinematic, “Yesterday” isn’t the case where you simply direct your character with an occasional press of a button to make a “choice”. It is a true, engaging point and click adventure, but those gameplay moments consistently interrupted with yet another cutscene… At a playtime around 4 hours, it almost amounts to “watching” this game as often as actually playing it.

The story ramps up from the very beginning and gets complex fast. There are cults, alchemy, murders, torture, world-hopping, memory loss… You name it, it’s probably here. We get to play different characters, including the evildoers. We get to play in different time periods. We get to… There’s just so much! While the elaboration works in the grand scheme of things, 4 hours is just not quite enough to carry all that complexity. Some games can manage to start, develop and fully complete the story within this time span, but “Yesterday” sets out to accomplish so much that it ends up feeling upsettingly short.

It’s also the case of a game with every character being either on the bad side of things or largely morally ambiguous, so it’s possible to walk away with not liking anyone or simply not caring much. I followed John’s story without much investment in him or Pauline. If you need strong connection to characters to be engaged – this might not be a good choice.

The writing, on the other hand, delivers a high-quality, engaging experience. The dialogue largely reads like a fashionable thriller with “flawed characters” defiantly stating how messed up they are; bad guys indulgently talking about gruesome things they love doing, and of course having an unreliable narrator – John -at the helm of things, keeping to a morally gray area with occasional slides to either side. The voiceover plays into all of that wonderfully. Almost every character has a voice that manages to convey a certain trait even through trivial dialogue; needless to say, when things get taken up a notch – voice actors reflect all of that with brilliant intensity. So does the ambient music that keeps up with the tension of the game and ends up being a pleasant companion, but never a distraction.

“Yesterday” will work best for those who know what they want from an adventure game. If you don’t expect next “Runaway”; if you’re OK with story taking over gameplay; if you don’t mind your game being part film at the core, or if you’re a fan of dark twisted thrillers – you’ll most likely enjoy it. For all the other curious adventure fans, keep in mind the length of the game and if it seems interesting – try to get it in the bundle (it seems to be a part of many), this might just be your thing.

This game is surprisingly dark and good! In the beginning, I wasn't impressed with the story and wasn't sure where it was going, but the second part of the game was amazing. The first part of the story set a year before the events. A young man, Henry White who dedicated his time to a charity organization to help homeless people. He and his friend Cooper went to investigate the secret behind the disappearance of homeless people who the organization found their lifeless body, they discovered a disturbing satanic cult, but was it really them behind the disappearance? You'll also meet John Yesterday, a man who suffers from amnesia, what is his connection to all of this?

I liked the characters personality, each one of them is unique. I'm not going to spoil anything, but you'll be the one who chooses their fate. The tone of the game keeps changes as it shows you things from the past and the current events. It might confuse some people but the puzzle pieces will connect in the last part of the game.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1550319715

The puzzles were direct in the game, but my problem was is combining items, the drag and drop list of items was a bad choice, clicking them would have been easier. The hints and hot spots highlights do help a lot if you ever got stuck in the game. I still don't know what is the use of some of the items I've picked, like the pen and papers.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1550319361

I liked the art style of the game, you might not like it in the beginning but the comic style is really fun. Although it has a well-done voice-over, it is not fully voiced. Some of the scenes have only text. The music is alright, nothing special about it.

Pros:
+Interesting dark story with multiple routes.
+OK soundtracks.
+Very well done voice over.
+Good animation and characters design.
+Replay value.
+Hinting system.

Cons:
-No Steam achievements.
-Quite short if you use a guide.
- No manual save.

It took me around six hours to finish the game without using a guide, I've seen some people said it is a short game, yes it can be short if you know where to go. I do recommend this game to point&click lovers and people who enjoy dark themed stories.
